His lecture is good. The only thing that was difficult was his test. He would give us a study guide of 839 Vocabs to study plus his hand outs plus the text. Some people did well but others suffered from his test that was different each time. So you wouldn't know what to expect. it's up to you. he's nice tho.

This is the guy you want - he takes all the information you've got to learn and does his best to make it interesting for you, by relating it to stuff you already understand, giving you lots of visuals, is extremely helpful and is an all-around great guy. Some might be turned off by his style initially, but we're all weirdo's in our own way.

Great professor. Course is moderate in difficulty. Tests are easy if you know the material. He provides audio/slides of his lectures for study.

Great guy he makes the material very clear and if you have questions ask them, he knows you paid money to hear him talk and he awards for class participation.

Dr. Fitzgerald is AWESOME! As long as you don't screw around in his class you will do fine. He really made me interested in human biology- perhaps even pushed me in the medical direction.

His class is pretty relaxed. He lectures the entire time from powerpoints but he knows the material, and explains it well. The tests are all short answer questions but the study guide has everything you need to know. Most test material is from the powerpoints and text, but I haven't really read the text but I'm doing fine. 1-2 HW easy HW assignment

Dr. Fitzgerald is a great professor. He has a lot of personal interest in what he's teaching. His tests are all short answer, but if you understand the concept, you'll do just fine. I really enjoyed the class, although I don't care for Geology (personally). I would recommend him, for sure. You can get an A, but you'll have to work for it.

He's very passionate about what he teaches, which personally helped me stay awake in class. His tests aren't that hard, but you can't b/s your way through them since it's short answer. There's never any homwork. Just read, and listen to what he says during class. He often gives his tests based off what we discussed. Oh and study guids are useless.

He's the coolest teacher I have ever had at NVCC. He knows his stuff. His lectures were easy to understand and take in. Follow his lecture which he posts online as well and gives out a good exam review as well.

Don't take his classes if you're looking for an easy science class. Please. We know who you are, and it's painful to watch. Shockingly, he insists that you learn the material, so there is no multiple choice. But he's energetic and funny. Think Eddie Izzard and Gordon Ramsay without the crossdressing and insults. Easily an all-time favorite.

Don't expect an easy A and don't expect to learn about cute fuzzy mammals in zoology but you will learn more about animals than you ever have.He's a very fair grader and see's student's effort. If you learn the material, you'll get an A. If you try to get an A, you'll probably fail. Take any class of his!

Great teacher, witty, funny, and makes the class amusing. Engaging and makes the content easy to understand. His grading is based on how much you understand the content so his tests are short answer. He gives out specific study guides and the tests are straight out of his powerpoints that he posts on blackboard. There's also online assignments.

I have him for 102 honors. It is the best class I have ever taken. He is enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and a great teacher. If you're willing to learn, you will. If you're willing to think for yourself, you will. If you're not, don't take the class. Short answer tests, and he gives partial credit on questions. I'mma take his zoology class too. :)

I had no interest in Bio before this class, but he made it very entertaining. His exams are all short answer but not hard if you just study (go figure). Labs are 25% of grade and all you have to do is show up for full credit. Easy overall and you learn alot too. I plan to take him in the fall for 102 and scheduled all other classes around his.

He is your average guy whom teaches. I had him twice in the past, he is very straight forward. Read your material, take notes and dont waste your time and you will pass. I was one of the older more mature people in class and understand his point of view.

I HATED science and anything to do with it before I took Dr. F's class. I am now a Neuroscience major going to Medical School and I credit him for helping inspire and motivate! He is a GREAT prof. He makes you think and helps you think outside of the box.If you work hard he will do whatever he can to help. He is the best prof I've ever had!

I loved this class! The tests are all short answer, so you have to study, but the study guides are helpful if you go to class. YOU MUST COME TO CLASS! He's pretty speedy in his lectures, but once you figure out his pace you won't have a problem. He "picks favourites", but really if you ask questions, he'll like you.

I am currently a government and international politics major at George Mason University. This man was a great enough force to cause me to consider majoring in biology, embrace higher math, and sleep in number covered pajamas. Ok, if that is not clear enough, let me say this: I have been significantly impacted by this man! He is a true scholar.

I took his Bio 102 class this past summer and loved him! He's extremely helpful and is a great teacher. He made me love biology. If you ask him questions, study the material and come to class then you'll be fine. Study the review guides he posts and go to his office hours too if you struggle. I got a A in the class. Dr Fitz clearly tells you what he expects from you the first day of class. He does not respond kindly to stupidity, willful ignorance, or laziness. He will always give you an honest assessment and, though some people are turned off by that, always has a heart for his students. His tests require that you know the material, like any test should.

Took 3 classes with him and do not regret a single one. He is a great teacher and he is really helpful. He is funny and nice and is always willing to help. Dr. Fitz is the MAN. I took both Bio 101 and 102 with him. Both of these classes I sincerely thought I failed because my exam average was below a 60, but I got a C both times. Exams are a bit difficult and so is studying, but he gives points for anything, even if you draw the answer. Fun guy, hilarious jokes, very smart. Treat him like a friend!

Fitz's style, if you ever decide to teach, is the one you'd want; knowledgeable (borderline genius on the subject), passionate, and very scientific. I didn't do too well on the exams. In fact, I was sure I'm either getting a C or a D but got neither of those grades. He's helpful. Show up. Ask questions... He had me at "Who in here like Radiohead?"

I am a non traditional student and put 110% effort in all my work. I can honestly say I don't think I deserved the grade I received (B). As a student who feels deserving of an "A", I still feel extremely comfortable recommending this professor. That alone should tell you that he is a quality choice. Great professor and great person.

I have never enjoyed a science class in my entire life until I took Dr. F's Bio 102. He just knows how to teach, relates material in pretty cool ways. Show up, try, and study some and you should not have a problem getting an A or B.

He's not only a biology professor, but the chair of the Honors Program. Funny, always hard working, really gives a lot of attention to the Honors Program students and some love to the Honors Course hangers-on when it's them that get into the Ivy League schools. You'll never reach him by email, except weeks later, if ever. Just stop by the office.

Professor Fitzgerald is the easiest science Professor at NOVA. Take him and show up to class and you will get an automatic A. He is so funny and sweet and treats everyone like he's their friend. All you have to do is talk to him and he will love you. But, he does take lab seriously. There's only one midterm and one final and they are easy!

The way he TRULY cares for his students is something I've never seen before and will probably never see again. His lectures are very entertaining, he is one of the more knowledgable professors I've taken so far. Very easy class, he does things differently which sometimes can be confusing but, in my opinion, it works to your advantage. I surely had fun in his class.

I've had him for bio 101 and 102, and Prof Paul's teaching techniques are definitely unique, but he cares about his students and his class really isn't difficult to pass. As long as you show up to lectures and do your work on time, it's an easy A. Lowkey tho if you actually wanna learn bio don't take his class, everything you learn is self taught.

Professor Fitzgerald's class is engaging and interactive. The free online textbook is helpful, but attending lectures and actively participating is key to succeeding. unstuck study proved useful for studying alongside other resources.

Good professor, he will not spoonfeed or give you any shortcuts. To pass this course study hard and use the textbook to your advantage. Turning in all assignments and attending class regularly is the most simple way to receive a good grade. Don't rely on in-class material to teach you everything, put in the extra effort to obtain full knowledge.

Of all my professors of fall 2024, this one does a great job of being enthusiastic in both lecture and lab. my only criticism was dealing with studying for the exams. The study guides he make don't always lean towards what the exam questions will look like. But overall, a fun professor, makes the class fun and makes the labs fun.

I was nervous about taking bio since its been a while since high school, but Paul made it easy, he isn't a "by the book" professor which I preferred, he still taught everything that would be on the exam. Study guides didn't always align, but if you studied and went to class, it wasn't too hard. 100% would take again.

Pretty funny guy. Brings us tea and snacks which is sweet. Labs are mostly graded on completion, though he may collect some data/graphs. Exams arent terrible but the short answer questions at the end can be tricky. What I didn't like is that he is forgetful so if u have to do stuff in the testing center definitely be sure to remind him many times.
