Class s very interesting and math based. You have to understand the proofs and the theory behind them if you would like to do very well on tests (mostly logic and proofs). There are in class quizzes so attend lectures. Homework helps for tests so try doing them on your own. Great class, great professor, very helpful!
Great Professor. Teaches from slides uploaded on the course website, which is enough to get you an A.
Really NICE professor!!Great enter-level programming class CSE114. I never learned JAVA before I took his class, and with his help, I end up get an A on the course. Although his class might be hard, or requires logic process, it was INTERESTING. Highly recommend to go cselab for the class. It was helpful!!
Clear slides. Office hour is very helpful. I learned the most part of materials from lab as well. And he is very kind friendly professor! if you are an international student, take his CSE114. He gives clear explanation for homework and projects. Highly recommend his CSE114 course!
Awesome professor, interesting class, and helpful labs. Paul has rich experience and gives me many valuable advices. He provides very clear slides and explains everything clearly to help us understand the difficult point. Homework and labs are very interesting and helpful. It is worth taking this course if u want to be good at Java.
Awesome professor, interesting class, and helpful labs. Paul has rich experience and gives me many valuable advices. He provides very clear slides and explains everything clearly to help us understand the difficult point. Homework and labs are very interesting and helpful. It is worth taking this course if u wants to be good at logical thinking.
Paul Fodor is an excellent professor, one who cares highly for his students. He's nice, and he is very helpful in his office hours. His homework and labs are relatively easy, but his exams are crushingly difficult if you don't study well enough for them before hand, but that's true for any science course. Professor Fodor is excellent.
Since my first class with Professor Fodor, his dedication to his students and their understanding of the material was apparent in his attitude and teaching style. Even as a faculty member occupied with his own research and projects, he makes time for the concerns of his students. I highly recommend him as a professor and adviser to all.
He's a great professor who knows his material. I found his lectures very interesting and comprehensive. His tests are fairly easy if you've studied the material, plus he's quite lenient on the grading. All in all, if you actually want to learn new material instead of getting an easy A, I would recommend Fodor.
Professor Fodor is one of the most helpful professors in the CS department. He is always very helpful in his office hours and he cares about his students a lot
Paul Fodor is the best professor i have had in college yet. He is very dedicated to all his students always adding office hours and helping his students when he doesn't need to. Whenever you show effort and ask for help he is willing to go the extra mile to make sure you can do the best you can. HIGHLY recommend taking him for all courses possible.
Prof. Fodor is probably one of the most helpful and passionate professors at Stony Brook. CSE 114 is a ton of work regardless of what professor you have, but Prof. Fodor made the class incredibly enjoyable and was always extremely available to help- the man responded to all my emails within like two hrs! Don't take if you aren't prepared to do work
He puts a lot of effort and dedication in his teaching. Very fair grader, he takes the time to help you out even outside office hours. My college experience has improved a lot since taking this class with Prof. Fodor. A great guy and a great prof. Highly recommended!
Fodor is one of the few professors at Stony Brook that actually tries to teach his class. Sometimes there are in-class quizzes, but they aren't too bad if you pay attention. His office hours are also very helpful so try to go to them as much as you can.
Fodor is an amazing professor. He pays attention to the students and tries his best to explain the materials so that all students will understand. His office hours are also helpful and he explains a lot better in them. If you pay attention you are in for a well deserved grade.
He is one of the best professor in stony brook. I highly recommend him as a professor
Really nice professor, but loves to make very difficult tests. The averages of the midterms were 39 and 57. This actually makes it a little easier though because he tries not to fail people and says he curves on a B. Try to do all of the homework though, even the extra credit. I think he curved in the EC HW which is I think why I got below average.
HE IS GREAT! If you want a professor that cares about your success and knows what he is talking about then it's a no brainer. Take his classes if you want to get your money's worth at Stony Brook. I Hope he stays until I finish my masters!
Paul was a professor of mine in my Computer Science I course. As a lecturer, he is clear and concise with his presentations and always prepares his slides for each class. He takes every opportunity to clarify core concepts whenever needed. While learning from Paul, I was never lost or confused.
The instructor's teaching is very interesting, and informative. The instructor is very clear and organized with with the material. The instructor is also very helpful and friendly.
Professor Fodor is a very responsible teacher. He is very clever, and very helpful. He prepares he is course and he organize them very well.
Professor Paul is a very patient professor, he always explain again and again until you get his point. and he is very helpful to his student, whatever the problem you meet, just told him, and he can give you a good advice. He is also an easy going professor, he gives student good grade at the end of semester.

Very helpful professor. He's friendly, and always takes time out of his schedule to help us out. He explains things fully, is gentle with the curve, and is pretty big on partial credit. Probably one of the best professors I've had thus far.
Professor Paul is very devout instructor. In my opinion, he always welcomed questions related to the course materials, even some minor questions. His course was so helpful for me to develop basic Java Programming skill for upper course. Also, he tried to communicate with students very eagerly. I would highly recommend taking his courses for others!

Professor Fondor is very helpful. He is the best professor I have had in college. Look at the slides ,take notes and DO the Homework, then you can get an A
The professor always gives clear examples to demonstrate what he's teaching, and he is also very helpful, both in and outside of class.
Professor Fodor is one of the most popular professors in Computer Science department. His lectures is definitely worthy of being taken because he takes a lot of efforts in his teaching. His lecture is concise and clear; besides, he is always helpful and responsible. In my opinion, he is eager to help students and he cares students' success.
Really good one. A little bit accent but it doesnt matter. Super friendly and helpful. Saying hello to you all the time wherever he saw you even u took his class like 3years ago.
350 characters is not enough to describe how awesome this professor is.. IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT COMPUTER SCIENCE AND WANT TO LEARN, THIS IS THE BEST PROFESSOR FOR YOU. IF YOU WANT TO SLACK OFF, HE IS CHALLENGING AND YOU WILL STRUGGLE IN HIS CLASS. He is extremely helpful, very knowledgeable, and very humble. I deeply respect this man, he rocks.
Great professor! It's easy to get an A in his class and he is very helpful!
One of the hardest working profs. in the Computer Science Dept. Very down to earth and super smart. I wish I could take all my required classes with him. Highly recommended!!!
A very nice person. The classes aren't easy though but he's really helpful.
Paul is one the best and hardest working professors at SBU hands down! His classes are always well organized and focused on the important topics. He has a reputation of giving "hard" exams, but most the problems are taken straight from the assignments and quizzes. He also will handle grading questions while many professors defer to their TA.
Prof Fodor is very helpful teacher and he is very patient to answer your questions. His lectures are well organized and super clear. He respects his students and we all like him very much.
most helpful and nice professor ever! the amount of homework is good and the easiness of the exams is great too.
Great professor, always helpful. CSE 219 is very programming heavy, but doable with enough time. He tries to ensure his students' success. He welcomes questions and is very fair in grading (partial credit). Lectures are clear and organized.
Extremely helpful professor, some of the material was a bit boring or difficult but Professor Fodor was always there to explain and provide examples. Assignments were not too difficult and well thought out, and exams are a bit on the tougher side but not too bad if you study. Would take more classes with him if they were offered!
Very helpful. The prof. is pretty nice. The exams are a bit hard. But if you are willing to study and review. He will there to help you at anytime. Pretty cool
Professor Fodor is awesome! Although his exams are a bit hard, it is not so bad if you do his home works. He is really nice and willing to help students during office hours.
I'm not rating him here. But I can tell a story about him. One day I was in Student Union and saw him standing next to the window. He was checking email and uploading grade for student as well as replying email. What else can I say? He is sooo good!
very helpful, respond to email quickly. Do the homework he gives you and go to class, you will get a fairly good grade
He is very helpful, and kind. His exams are very very fair. You definitely should take this class with him. Highly recommend!!
Professor Fodor is definitely one of the best professors I ever had in CS in Stony Brook. This class requires a bit effort, but the professor is being very clear in class and helpful in office hour. There will be extra credits and extended office hours. The tests are fair. Very good introductory course.
He is absolutely one of the best professors in Stony Brook! He always listened students' voice and willing to help all the time. If you have any concerns, just visit him and he will give you clear and brilliant advise. Also, he is a very friendly and fair grader. Class materials are interesting, i always loved his classes!
From da hills o Azeroth,to da mountains o Mordor, never has der been,a professor like Fodor. He shows,he explains,he dissects what he tests. He answers,he listens, for he is truly the best. His logic is infallible, his arguments sound, his prowess indubitable, his knowledge unbound.I accepted his word, and followed his way, went to his classes, and got an A!
I got a D in the class and Fodor is still the freaking MAN! I LOVE HIM! I FAILED JUST SO I CAN TAKE IT AGAIN, THAT"S HOW MUCH I LOVE PAUL FODOR. <3
The course was well-structured and covered a lot of points on the subject. Professor Fodor presented slides in every lecture which were lucid and covered all the areas of that topic. The assignments for the course helped to learn the topics better. We had 3 projects which gave us hands on experience on what was learned in the class.
Very kind professor who seems genuinely invested in the success of his students. He's very helpful if you reach out to him (prompt email responses and available office hours). With the right amount of effort, you should do fine in his class.
Professor Fodor is a great professor. He is mad chill. If you need help he is always willing to assist you. He is very fair with exams and homeworks. If there is a grading issue you can just go to his office hours and he will fix it. If you get a chance to take his course, you won't be disappointed.
Very clear in his leactures. He makes sure that you understand the material presented. The lactures can seem like they drag on, but its only to make sure that you understand the material. Very good professor.
Fodor is one of the best professors I've had. Very approachable and always willing to help when he can. I would recommend taking this course with him.
He really devotes to his classes. For CS Students, CSE114 is very essential and he's the best professor who delivers the knowledge effectively.
The classes were well taught with full explanations. There is almost no need to use the textbook if pay full attention in class. Sometimes the class could be hard, but professor Fodor is always willing to help us either during his office hours or by appointment.
Paul Fodor is one of the best instructors at Stony Brook University. His lectures are very clear and concise. He is very eager to answer questions and is always willing to clear up any confusion that you may have about the course content. Professor Fodor is a very nice guy and is very approachable. You will learn a lot from him!
Fodor is a great professor; very organized and clearly explains topics. He is also very helpful outside of class.
Professor Fodor is a really nice guy. He's a very caring professor and will go above and beyond to help anyone out. Sadly, computer science just wasn't for me. I BARELY passed both classes and I was miserable in them. However, I'm glad to know he is a caring professor and if you're interested in CS, take him!
His explanations are not too great mostly due to bad analogies, but they are good enough if you try to understand. Office hours are crowded because he teaches a lot of CSE classes so get there early. Very helpful, will give you points back on tests and take into account your academic situation.
He is an amazing professor. The slides are enough for understanding the material and he's also very helpful during office hours. If you attend the lectures and do the home works, you'll definitely get a good grade.
He is an amazing professor. The slides are enough for understanding the material, don't bother buying the textbook. If you attend the lectures and do the home works you'll get a good grade.
Excellent professor! His lectures are very clear and provides plenty of helpful examples. His tests aren't bad, but are quite long. This is one of the two classes needed to get into the CSE major, so is often a "weeder" classes with very low averages. Office hours are usually crowded, but Fodor is approachable and always willing to help.
very nice professor, but the class wasn't that fun. cover a lot of chapter and he EXAM(mid and Final) is very hard. two mid 20%for each, final 35%(so damn hard final)..homework and quiz 25%....
nice professor! His lectures arent very clear and provides plenty of not helpful examples, because final test was total different than exmples, and was so hard!!!!!!!
Fodor is the most helpful and kind professor in SBU. Some of his tests are hard but it prepares you well for the upper level classes. If you do the labs and homeworks properly, you will do well in exams
I think he is the most helpful professor in SBU. Please take his class and u will learn more and get a good grade
this guy is terrible. he doesnt make you understand anything goes off on and on about stuff you wont get if you dont study 10 hours a day.
He is an amazing professor and amazing low grade
Overall great professor and teacher. He takes his time to actually help the students understand the material. Always easily accessible by email and understanding in most circumstances. Not the easiest tests but they are curved and fair.
Professor Paul is willing to help students by all means. Lecture materials are concrete and well-organized. Even though there are a lot of works, they really help guide you through the course. Strongly recommend Professor Paul's classes.
Really good professor, definitely take him if you have the chance. Yes he's not easy, but you will learn a lot and I guarantee you will be happy you took him. Even after suffering through some crazy exams I really enjoyed it. He's always happy to go over material in class or in office hours and answer all questions.
Took CSE 114 second semester freshman year
Professor Fodor is wonderful. Although Computer Science by default is difficult, and the pace of the course is extremely fast, he is always available to help and encourages everyone to ask as many questions as they please. The tests he gives are rather difficult, but if you study the lecture notes, you'll be fine -- especially with the curve.
Great professor. Class is pretty straightforward even for someone like me who had only programmed in BASIC before college. Was very close to getting A- but the final was pretty difficult and it was hard to hand write all those programs in that time frame. If you read the textbook and know the concepts, you will do well.
Fodor tries his best to teach the class, his efforts are made clear when you go to him for help. The assignments are very clear, and you can pass em by following the textbook. Reading the textbook is as or more important than going to his lectures.
CSE 219 is a tough and demanding course, but Professor Fodor tries his best to help students out. He holds office hours frequently and often. Lectures are crystal clear, and he is eager to answer students' questions. Do NOT procrastinate on the assignments. Start the projects early as possible because they are time consuming and difficult.
Be sure to keep along with the readings. Homeworks are essential. Final project was a poker game, he gave the GUI but the whole game was a mess to create. Exams gets steadily harder and final is brutal.
Prof. Fodor is a great professor, very helpful during office hours. Class is well-organized and covers a lot of material, not an easy class.
A great teacher, hands down. Puts a lot of time and effort in the class, is patient and kind. Tough material and hard exams. Really makes you earn the grade. Take his class.
If you had java experiences before(At least you know the concept of the OOP), definitely this class is OK for you. If you never programmed before and have no concept of what OOP and some basic computer concepts are. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS because you will have no idea about what you are doing at the beginning. Awesome professor! Highly Recommended!
The best man in existence.
Prof Fodor is one of the best professor in Stony Brook University. I took his CSE 114, CSE215 and CSE219 courses. he is very willing and ready to help his students. Whenever you email him, he will respond immediate as long as he is not in the class. He gave grade fair and he taught everything you need to know in his lectures. Highly recommend him!!
I am so glad the CS department let Prof. Fodor teach the introductory courses. He genuinely cares for every students and hope you do well. Always there in office hours and willing to help you study the subjects. Lectures are super helpful so attend and participate if you want to improve your grade. One of the professor I ll certainly miss.
He is one of the best CS professor in Stony Brook University. I took his CSE114, CSE215 and CSE219 and all get above A-. He is very willing and ready to help his students. He grade projects and tests fairs. I believe there are lots of students like me love to take his course.
He is one of the best professors in CS department of Stony Brook University. I take his CSE114, CSE215 and CSE219 courses. He is very willing and ready to help his students and his grading is fair for all students. I am very willing to take more his course before I graduate.
Paul Fodor will go down as the best computer science professor at SUNY Stony Brook University. He is crystal clear in lecture and he is extremely smart and gifted at teaching. He was able to answer any question from any student throughout the entire semester. Paul Fodor CSE 114 course is not an easy course but Fodor is always helpful no matter.
He just reads slides in the class with little explanations. His midterms are tough. He is more concerned about the homeworks and the final project than theory which is not good because he asks tough thoey multiple choice questions in midterms and finals. If you want good grades opt for some other teacher.
Dr. Fodor is a dedicated professor and is always there to help his students. I've emailed him at 1a.m. with questions and he got back to me within the hour. CSE114 is a very tough class but he is clear with his expectations from the beginning. Final exam was ridiculously hard. If you have no prior programming experience I suggest taking 110 first
He's not necessarily a tough guy. Just read your textbook (and I do mean read and understand the textbook) and you will ace the exams.
In general, Fodor is a great professor to work with, and one of the best professors at Stony Brook. The best time to find him is during office hours, especially when it is not packed. You can get a lot just by talking with him. He will try his best to help you learn and earn a better grade. One thing to note: don't get fooled by his practice exams!
Professor Fodor has been one of the most respectable, most helpful and one of the most difficult teachers I have ever had the pleasure of being in class with. Despite having no CS knowledge beforehand, I managed to get an A with the aid of professor Fodor. One of the best professors handsdown, would take again.
Prof. Fodor is one of the best profs to take this course with. Lectures are informative and explain the material really well. Although exams are usually difficult, they are always fair. Fodor is extremely helpful during office hours and genuinely wants to help you do well in his class. Really nice guy and excellent professor.
He is a great professor, excellent lecturer and one of the most helpful toward students you will ever meet. He is willing to help with any kind of problems, his office hours are often full so he extended many of them. He is not easy though, his tests are tough, but the letter grade is based on class performance so it's fair. Highly recommended
Professor Fodor is one of the most inspirational professors at SBU. He puts himself at your level to help you understand concepts you're shakey on. He makes you work for your grade but you feel like you've earned it at the end of the semester. He WANTS you to succeed. Definitely take a class with him!
Great professor for computer science. His midterms are really tough and require alot of studying for passing; don't expect an easy A. Learned alot of useful techniques for general programming, and probably one of the most useful classes I've taken.
Prof. Paul Fodor is very humorous in class and helpful in office hours. Crystal clear with a cute accent. Classes is immersed with comprehensive fundamental knowledge of Java and thinking in Object-Oriented Programming. Very useful class slides, always keep in touch with the newest Java Material, a nice reference even for senior students.
This is a class for discrete mathematics. Fodor is enthusiasm about what he is teaching and always keep a clear logic solving students' puzzles. Try to digest the materials and get HW extra credits. Exams are very fair, if you review the HWs well and keep with a clear logic, you will get good grade.
Good teacher
Although an "introductory" class, do not be fooled. Homeworks are extremely time consuming. Attendance is basically mandatory. Exams are unpredictable & truly test your understanding of the material so study everything. Extremely helpful. Highly enthusiastic and has a signature grin that highlights his delight of rewiring young minds. MUST TAKE!
Fodor is a great professor, especially for the introductory CSE courses that are really fundamental to a student's progression in the CSE major. Every student needs to thoroughly know the material in these first few courses in order to gain a solid understanding of CS, and Fodor guides us along the way. Also very helpful in office hours.
Fodor has been one of the best professor I had in Stony. Although the class was around 8AM, I was there most of the time because his lectures we informative and easy to follow. He helps you out a lot and his office hours are usually packed with students. Before a test, learn all the functions he expects of you and you will be fine.
I have taken cse114,215,219 with Prof. Fodor. I really enjoy his lecture, and you will never feel bored during his lecture, because he can always take a lot of fun. Prof. Fodor is a person who is easy to approach, and he tries his best to figure out students' questions. That' why you will always see many people wait for his office hour. Must take!
Paul Fodor is a decent professor. He generally wants his students to succeed and is available for help over email and office hours. His tests are on the difficult side, but theres no reason for you not to succeed if you study properly. His lesson seem kind of boring at times.
He's a good professor, and really knows his stuff. My Programming Lab is the most obnoxious thing ever, and all the answers are online. Doesn't help enforce the material. GO TO LAB and actually do the labs. Those programs are the kinds he will ask on an exams. He is more than willing to help if needed, but his office hours are always packed.
Took 3 classes with Prof. Fodor, he is a great professor who cares about his students. Although his class isn't easy, but you definitely learn a lot in his class. He is a professor who isn't afraid to admit his mistakes (mostly typo or other minor things).
Best CSE teacher in SBU. Extremely helpful and friendly.
In the Fall of 2014, I took CSE 114 under the guide of Professor Fodor. It is fortunate it have him as a helpful, patience and brilliant instructor. I have known Professor Paul Fodor for over a year and discover him to be not only a reliable, conscientious instructor, but also a hardworking, earnest researcher.
Prof. Fodor is AMAZING! I have not had any programming experience, and I decided to take the course anyway. Holy hell, was this course hard, especially for someone with no experience or ANY knowledge at all of programming. I got a 34!! on the first midterm and through a LOTTT of studying and oodles of help from Fodor, I got a B!!! Take his class!!!
As a transfer student wasn't sure what to expect taking this class. To my surprise Professor Fodor made it enjoyable with clear examples and material available to practice with. Expect a lot of work, but manageable if you start early. The class has been one of the best experiences I have to date regarding programming and did in fact made me better.
Fodor is a great teacher, very friendly, knows how to communicate with students.
I took cse 114 and 215 with him. He is a very nice professor and although the classes are tough, he does a great job in explaining the materials. Also when you go to his office hours, he is more than happy to help you with your problems.
Nice professor.
I took my CSE 114 and CSE 219 with Pro. Fodor, He is the best professor i have ever met. In his lectures, i have learned many valuable knowledge, which i use very frequently today. All materials would be explained clear and well organized. When i was doing final projects, Pro. Fodor gave me a lot of helps. Excellent Professor!
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors I've had at Stony Brook University. He is always willing to help at Office Hours and makes sure that all his students have the resources they need to learn. He genuinely cares about his students. He has an engaging manner of teaching and his lecture slides are very clear. Highly recommend!
He makes all your problems go away
Lecture notes are post on website, everything that you need to get a good grade is in the lecture note. You can ask any question in class or go to the office hours. Professor Fodor would try his best to answer your question. Exams are fair. If you study and understand the materials you should be fine. Expect to spend a lot of times on homework.
It was a very nice course for the introduction of database theories and techniques.
Professor Fodor is the best professor I met in Stony Brook, he always willing to clarify any questions related to his class with nice manner. He is also a fair grader, if you attend every class and do the practice its not hard to get an A. Expect to spend a lot of times on homeworks especially final project.
Professor Fordor's class is tough but it has to be because of the department. He has so many resources that it is impossible to get below a B if you put in ample time. STUDY AT LEAST 1 HOURS A DAY on just coding on an eclipse for a guaranteed B or above. Always replies to e-mails in under 15 minutes.
Professor Fodor is knows all about what he teaches and it shows. His lectures follow a logical difficulty curve, starting with the easier subjects and building towards the more difficult ones. Helping this, he assigns homework every week so that the students can better familiarize themselves with the subject material.
Fodor is a kind professor, who will take his time out for any student willing to learn. His lectures are soft spoken, and a little dry, but they are clear. Put in the outside work, go to his office hours, and you will succeed. He is a great professor.
Very helpful
Professor Paul is the best professor in the Computer Science Department I have ever known! He is a very popular professor amoung CS Students. Everyone loves taking his class. I took CSE 114 with him during Fall 2014, and that was the first CS class I have ever taken. He helped me a lot and he reply email very fast!
I would highly recommend anyone considering computer science courses to take one with Professor Paul Fodor. I have taken Computer Science I (CSE 114) (CSE 215) with Professor Fodor. He is a helpful professor who challenges his students to work hard. He is fair in tests and grading, and is very friendly so don't hesitate to ask him questions.
Professor Fodor is an absolute sweetheart. His lectures and office hours are very helpful. He's also quite understanding. You learn a lot from him. His tests are somewhat tricky, but if you study hard, you'll do well. If you need help with the project, you can go to him, and he will assist you.
Professor Paul is one of the most influential teachers and friends for my undergraduate. He is my first computer science professor, as well as one of the best professors in SBU CS department. I took his CS introductory courses, where he articulated all aspects of Java and Discrete Mathematics. The courses were very interesting. Highly recommend him
At the first class, he said it would be very difficult. But actually it is easy for me. I do know some students cannot understand this course, but the professor is good. If you ever went to his office hour, there were always many students waiting outside the door.
Absolute sweetheart. Supportive, crystal clear, and accommodating. He really hasn't forgotten how it is to be a undergrad and he is extremely hard working. Puts his all into everything he does. I will be taking his class again in the next semester and will always take his class if possible! An asset to the CS department.
Best CS professor in Stony Brook! Very nice to every students and very he is very patience. I took CSE114 with him in Spring 2013 I have lots of questions and I could not catch up with the lecture and asked lots of stupid questions during that semester. He always explain everything until I understand. Without him I wont word hard in learning CS.
Had him for CSE505. Assignments are tough, especially if you don't know prolog. However, exams and grading is lenient. He literally gave A to 40% of the class. His office hours are always full by students. He's extremely helpful and is a kind of person you can rely upon. Will take his class for sure in future semester.
Professor Fodor is a great teacher for a number of reasons, he doesn't baby his students, he is strict but very fair if you meet him during his office hours. The amount of work you put into his classes has a direct correlation to how well you perform at exam time. 10/10 would recommend to anyone willing to learn with 0 prior coding experience.
Nice guy. Treat students with patience.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors I have had at Stony Brook University by far. His lectures are amazing, and if you need any help with anything, he is always there for you. He will answer your emails quickly, and he will do his best to clarify anything during Office Hours. He inspired me to work hard. Also, this course is not an easy A!
Professor Fodor is a very approachable and cares greatly about his students. His lectures and instructions were well organized and easy to follow. His exams were fair, but you do need to know the material to do well. I would recommend taking a class with him!
Great teacher. Class had a lot of labs and homework but overall wasn't bad. Learned a lot. If you have questions, you can expect an email answered to you promptly. Test averages were low but he curved. If you study the slides and test the code from it in Eclipse, you should ace the exams.
Excellent professor. Really good speed for a person with no prior computing experience. Although it does get harder as the semester progresses, if you stay on top of things, you'l do just fine. Plenty of help provided from him.
very tough class I wouldnt take it again..
Easy quizzes, labs, and tests, best CSE prof ever.
Fodor is the best CS professor that I've ever seen in my life!
Excellent professor! Took CSE 307 with him. This course is a bit challengeable, but really love it and have gained much knowledge. His lectures were clear to be understood with many details. He was really nice to extend some deadline of HW. He respected students and was willing to answer any questions. I recommend you to take any courses with him.
I took CSE 219 and CSE 307 with him. His lectures were clear, detailed, and fun. Some of the homework could be difficult, but he usually gives out hints and extensions. His tests are very fair and gives test review a class before the test. He is always there to help. I highly recommend you to take all the courses with Dr. Fodor.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors I have ever taken in Stony Brook. He is caring, funny, and always looks so jolly. The vibe he gives off always makes me happy. He always has a smile on his face and keeps the class interesting. If you attend all his classes and do all the homework, it is an easy class to pass.
Professor Fodor is a great instructor! He tries to make sure that the class is engaged in lecture and tries to simplify as many concepts as he can. If you don't understand anything, he will patiently go over the topics you're confused about until you get it. His tests are hard but fair as long as you actually do everything he assigns.
professor Fodor is a very patient professor, he will explain things to you till you really understand it . cse307 is hard, go to his office hours. His lecture and slides are clear, informative and organized. He is caring, and highly respected by the students. He gives extensions for homework, he wants everyone to do well in the exam.
Excellent professor! He respects student, and cares about them. The best professor I had. His lecture is organized, clear. Everything is in the slides you do not need a textbook. He is willing to help and is always there for you. He wants his students to learn and do well. Take all of his classes.
Prof Fodor is one of the best lecturers in the department. His class is organized and he's willing to help students inside and outside of the classroom. Definitely take his class if you have a chance, you'll never regret.
One of the best professor I have ever had! Really cared for the students and was patient. I will definitely take classes with him if it's possible.
Words can not fully encapsulate what an awesome professor he is. He truly cares about his students(current and former) and is willing to go the extra mile to help them. His courses are tough but you will learn a lot. So make sure you pay attention in his classes !
Professor Fodor is one of best professors I met at Stony Brook University. I took CSE 505(fall 2015) and CSE 307(spring 2016) with him. The topics were new and challenging for me, but his lecture materials were easy to follow, very clear and detailed. Also he used very interesting examples to help students understand. He always kept everyone focuse
Prof. Fodor is really a nice professor at stony brook. He is very caring for students and expertise in answering questions. Definitely should take his lecture.
One of the best profs you can get at Stony Brook!
One of the best professors I've had in my freshman year so far; when you get 1-on-1 time with him, say, via appointment as opposed to office hours, he is clearly one of the best teachers (not just saying that because I'm a computer science major). I hope to have him again in my future CSE classes,
Great professor at Stony Brook. Well-organized lectures. Get help from office hours and after class.
Professor Fodor is a very helpful professor. As long as you stay on top of the material for CSE114, you will do fine. I took this class with no prior programming ed
yo imma spit it wont hesitate to admit it... P fodes is the man, his lectures I understand, after the test he shakes your hand, and you begin to swell with tears, of joy, at what you've achieved. p fodes.
Probably one of the best professors out there. He explains clearly during lecture and wants to help students understand the material. If you do the work you will do good on the exams. If you do not understand material, go to his office hours. After an exam I went to his office and he sat there explaining everything I got wrong, till I understood.
Class wise, for anyone who don't have prior coding experience, this class is going to be VERY TOUGH. Profesor wise, 10/10!!!!! Professor Fodor is the best professor I've ever had. He is very kind, and willing to help his student. He covers a lot of stuff on class but he is willing to explain any doubts. Overall, i'll def take his class again!!!!
I took CSE114 and 215 with Professor Paul. He is a really nice guy. He is always willing to help you with homework. I am currently taking his CSE307. Good as always.
He is certainly a very brilliant professor! His lectures are very on point with simple power points and clear explanations. The best thing about taking classes with Fodor is that he is very accessible and helpful out of class. I definitely enjoy his lectures and would strongly recommend to take classes with him.
GOD TIER!! I wish I could take him again! Don't be fooled, his class isn't easy. No sirree bob. But he is an amazing professor. His lectures are great and he is so open to questions. His office hours have lines outside them so one on one time with him is limited, but he really is so helpful and such a kind person. IF YOU'RE TAKING 114 TAKE HIM.
Paul is the best. I've had him a few times now and he is one of the best profs at the school. His classes are taught at the right pace and you'll learn a decent amount without getting buried in homework. Don't expect an easy A, but if you put in the effort you will do well. He is very fair.
He is a good professor indeed. He has "quizzes", but it is just a review material for the lecture with no grade associated. His parser homework give me a deeper understanding about the parsing aspect of compiler.
He is a very warm-hearted professor. I have to say that Professor Paul is one of my favorite professors at SBU. He is always there for you when you have questions and problems. Participate and do your work, trust me that you will get a good grade.
One of the greatest and most caring professor in Stony Brook University! He's taught me so much about the world of Computer Science and I would recommend to take as many classes as you can with him. He is very fair in his workload and does a great job in going over the materials with his classes.
Great professor. Students love him. Funny.
Amazing Professor! Professor Fodor's lectures are interesting but in depth. He is also very helpful during office hours if you need help with material or assignments. Highly recommend taking at least one course with him.
Professor Paul Fodor is a very helpful professor. He explains thing clearly during the lecture and is patient with any question, no matter how stupid they are. He cares about his student and responds to emails. I would recommend taking class with him.
I took CSE 114 with Dr. Fodor this past semester and I must say that I don't think I would have wanted to take it with anyone else. His lectures are clear and he is always available for help. An overall insightful and helpful professor, he's made my first course in Java programming immensely enjoyable.
A passionate, intelligent and caring person and an exemplary lecturer. You won't regret taking him.
CSE 114 is a very entry level class for CSE major which is java level I class. it is indeed challenging;however, it's not that hard but it requires quite a lot of energy to do it well. Paul did a really good job in teaching with very clarity. he is always available for answering any questions.
One of the reasons that makes Stony Brook University a wonderful institution to study at is its gourp of extrodinary professors. Without a doubt, Professor Fodor is one of the best professors that I have ever taken courses with. His courses are challenging, but, if you work hard, you will earn the knowledge that makes you a more competent and bette
Very nice Professor
I took Professor Fodor's CSE 114 class in the fall. I loved attending his lectures as it is straight to the point and good pacing. Passing the course is no problem if you put the work in go to office hours. Tips for new students taking his classes, make sure to go early because his office hour line is always extra long!!
He's great.
One of the best professor in SBU. I took Professor Fodor's CSE114 and his lecture is inspirational with simple example.
Fodor is one of the best and respected professor in the CS department. His mind is intelligent and he has lots of patience for his students. But if you take this course, you will be ready to spend lots of time on it because it is tough and also required for declaring CS major.
Very nice professor. He is cute.
great teaching skills
Super nice professor.
Professor Fodor is single handedly the best professor I've ever had at Stony Brook. His material is challenging, but he articulates it in a clear manner, and also goes out of his way to help any student he sees struggling. His kindness make him very approachable and it's obvious that he cares about his students success.
Excellent Professor, enjoyed learning about multi-valued logic. Material can get dry, but Professor Fodor does his best to explain it. Attend class and you will do well in this course.
I took both CSE 114 and 215 with Professor Fodor. Both classes were challenging, but worth it if you put the effort in. For 114, I found the lab to be pretty useful to get as much practice as possible and a good grade booster. For 215, it was a good amount of work. What helped for me was doing the homework, reviewing slides and doing the readings.
Prof. Fodor explains material clearly and effectively. He makes 307 a very interesting class, which is great especially because the material is pretty useful. He cares a lot about his students and is always willing to help you understand the material. I wish I got the chance to take more classes with him, and I highly recommend him to everyone.
I have taken CSE 114 with Professor Fodor and am currently a TA for this respective class. Working with him has been an absolute pleasure, his commitment and dedication to helping students learn is second to none. His courses have high standards but are designed to challenge and bring the best out of each student.
Best professor at SBU
Prof. Fodor is one of the best prof in the CS department. He is patient is knows his things. Homework assignments are little bit challenging but doable. Learned a lot things. I took it with 320 and 303 in one semester I worked out fine. It is good to take with 303 together or after 303.
His 307 class is very interesting and definitely a good choice if you need an elective to choose. He lectures off of his presentation slides which are available online. The exams are very challenging so make sure you study/practice beforehand. His office hours are great and highly recommended. Good class and good prof who cares about his students.
Databases is a very important class to take. Fodor teaches the material very well and his lecture slides are available online for further study. The final project involves web programming which can be confusing for first timers. Exams were pretty straightforward. Textbook not required. Great prof. Attend office hours if you need to they are great.
Professor Fodor encourages questions in lecture and maintains a good pace overall. His teaching style is one of the best Ive seen by far. One of his best qualities is that he is very approachable and takes the time to help students on their programming projects. He's is truly passionate about what he does and he cares about his students.
Very nice professor and a well liked person. His lectures are clear and relevant. The assignments as well relate to the class and interesting. Fodor does what he can to accommodate his students for the assignments and to understand the material.
Excellent professor and takes care of students like no other.
He's a nice person and decent professor, but it's just that there was barely any curve this semester due to the increase in the amount of pro coders and people who really pay attention, which led midterms and final averages to increase significantly from last year/semester, which puts people who score lower at a HUGE disadvantage
Paul Fodor is amazing. He knows what he's doing and you'll learn a lot from him. His exams are hard and is very much like hackerank type of questions, except with the language he specifies you have to use.
The professor that cares about each individual students the most! Very generous of his time and very helpful and patient.
Great professor - goes above and beyond to help students. He's a teacher that doesn't just teach you the material, but makes sure you're set up and prepared for the CS major as a whole.
Prof is really nice, and I learn a lot from him.
He really cares about his students' success, and he is always available during office hours. Really interesting lectures.
The material for CSE 312 can be a little tedious, but Prof Fodor makes the work interesting and topical. There is a quiz every class for attendance purposes. But he goes over the answers and his review for the midterm and final is very helpful to get an A. He tries to get everyone in the class to participate. Caring prof and very fair. Take him.
He is the professor who wants you to learn and is always willing to help you with it. Our assignment was a continuous series and your new assignment is based on earlier works. His version of the previous assignment was so helpful that I can get rid of my messy work and work out the last homework. He uploaded it when I went to his office hour
Professor Foder is one of the best professors in the CSE department. He was very clear about the lecture slides and was patient and nice when you ask questions. His office always has a long line so be sure to go in advance of the office hour. He will curve the grade and give partial credits. I will definitely take him again.
If you are new to computer science, take his class! He made every point so clear so was super helpful! Easily the best professor I had.
Paul Fodor is one of the best professor I have ever seen. He teaches you real stuff and explain every point clearly. He is always happy to help you with your questions.
Prof. Fodor was a very charismatic professor in both CSE 307, and CSE 312, and presented the concepts with a lucidity I have only encountered with two other professors here at Stony Brook. He's always very generous with his time and help, and is the only professor I have ever met that knows nearly all of his students' names, even in a >100 student
Professor Fodor is the best professor ever in computer science department. His lectures are engaging and in depth. And he is respected because he truly cares about his students and wants to help them succeed. I strongly recommend anyone who is willing to learn stuff to take his course. You won't regret for taking courses with him.
Prof. fodor is definitely one of the best professor in Stony Brook. His lecture is inspirational and easy to follow up and his assignment is very reasonable and helpful to improve programming skill. And during office hours, he is a very patient professor who will answer students' questions very clearly. I learnt a great deal on his cse 307.
I took CSE 114 and it was how I got into CS. CSE 307 is also very interesting. HW is fun and challenging and he is always there to help. The test is kinda difficult, but go to class and make sure you do the hw helps a lot. Highly recommend taking classes with him!
I took CSE 114 and CSE 215 with Professor Fodor, he's a great professor. He also provides the space required for each student to improve on what they have before taking the class. Highly recommend taking classes with him as he is understanding and lets each student excel within their limits and conditions!
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors in the Computer Science Department. I learned a lot from his 219 class. His lectures are very clear and he explains the material well. The exams are fair if you pay attention in class. Most of the grading depends on the projects, which are challenging, but manageable. Overall, a well designed class.
Professor Fodor is absolutely one of the greatest professors I've had at SBU. Cares that his students do well and understand the material, and is willing to extend assignments if it means students will actually learn more about the material given the extra time. His office hours are also a godsend, but they can get busy, so show up early!
Prof. Fodor is one of the best professors at Stony Brook University. It took CSE 114, 307 with him, and he gives reasonable feedbacks. You can fetch him when the door of his office is open.
Professor Fodor is one of my favorite professors at Stony Brook. I took CSE114 with him which was interesting and very informative. He gives a lot of examples to help explain the material. He is also super helpful during office hours because he very patient and truly cares for his students. He would take his time to meet with every single student.
One of the best undergraduate CS professor in Stony Brook! The class material might not be easy, but Professor Fodor will do his best to make sure you understand all the materials. You can always stop by his office if you have any questions and he would love to help.
I honestly dont know why he is popular. He literally reads everything from the slides. Only the people who have programming experience do good. he is the worst professor.
I had Professor Fodor as my professor for both CSE114 and CSE307. He works hard to make sure concept covered in class are clear to all students and grades hws and tests in very reasonable manner. One of the best professor in Stony Brook CS department.
Prof Fodor is one of the nicest professors I've taken class with in Stony Brook. His lectures are useful and inspiring. As long as you go to his class and do the homework, you should be fine. Great experience!
Very understanding and reasonable professor. You can ask whatever you want during his office hour. The homework is somehow tough. The midterms are easy but final exam was too hard. Prepare yourself well enough.
Professor Fodor is one of my favorite professors that I have had in college so far. He is very likeable and keeps his lectures engaging. He is also very helpful when you need help with something specific and his course is manageable given you put in some work yourself.
One of the best professors at Stony. The homeworks were challenging but he made sure to cover all the material needed for the homeworks in class and in the slides. His exams are very fair, he tells you what to expect, and no trick questions. His lectures aren't dry and you can tell he cares for his students.
Dr. Fodor is one of the absolute best professors in the SBU CS department. He was my first interaction with the department in CSE 114 my first year at SBU, and to this day, his encouragement and guidance in and out of the classroom have left a lasting mark on me. The course is by no means easy, but everything just clicks with Dr. Fodor. 110/10.
Fodor is definitely a great professor. While taking his class you might find the courseload difficult, but it's exams are very fair.
Professor Fodor is a great professor to learn Computer Science from. He explains fundamental concepts very well with examples and is willing to go through problems if the class does not understand. He communicates well with the class and ensures that we all understand the topic for the day. I'm fortunate to be in his class.
You'll learn a lot in his CSE 307 course - there are some languages that are definitely useful later on, but aren't really used in other classes, and you'll get a head start with them here. The last part of the class focuses on a project where you build your own interpreter, which is both interesting and useful in understanding how languages work.
Professor Fodor is an inspiring teacher who makes an introduction to learning JAVA truly exciting and productive. We were introduced to the basics of intro programming through simple assignments & lectures that gave us glimpses into real world applications. Prof Fodor was also very helpful, supportive, and friendly at office hours which was awesome
I'm taking CSE307 with Prof. Fodor in spring 2018 semester, and I found that he is a very talented lecturer and helpful professor. He is well prepared for the lectures and he can go through the material fully and quickly with detailed examples corresponding to every critical knowledge point. I suggest everyone to take at least one of his courses.
Great Teacher, Helps his students
Professor Fodor is always very clear in his teaching. At the beginning of each class he gives these little quizzes (not for credit) that go over what we are currently learning. He then gives the solution and goes over it. Thus he makes sure you immediately apply and remember a concept as soon as you learn it. He's also very nice and open to change.
I thought that Professor Fodor was a great professor; both in terms of explaining lecture material as well as overall availability.
Well, the slides are way too much and full of words in it, and the professor just rushes through it by reading all of them. I feel like being asked to learn lots of things, but actually didn't learn anything in depth. Probably many students love this course, but I don't find usefulness in the knowledge we learned from this course.
I took CSE114 online with Professor Fodor in Summer 2017. Everything was due online but we did have to come to campus twice for our exams. I loved how clearcut the expectations were from day one. The professor was always on well before the start of the class to answer questions. He's definitely one of my favorite professors at Stony.
Paul Fodor wants to help his students understand the materials and the course is thoroughly designed to do so. He does an excellent job of lecturing the material and very helpful in office hours. The homework reinforces that lecture material. The material is not easy but doable with effort and atendence. He is one of Stony Brook's best professors.
I took CSE 307 with him in Spring 2018. He is really nice and always gave us enough time of homework. His slideshow is very clearly and always be patient in office hour
Professor Fodor's CSE505 is very interesting. The way of thinking in Logic Programming is completely different from those in conventional programming language. It requires quite a lot reverse thinking and need some time to get use to it. Professor Fodor explained it very clear and the slides are very helpful and makes it easy to understand.
Professor Fodor was my research supervisor for the CSE 523/524 sequence in the masters cs program. He suggested a project that was interesting and I took it. He gave me full control over the implementation. I was able to implement what he asked for at the end of the year. I wrote a report on my work. He requires weekly progress report meetings.
Professor Fodor is really an awesome teacher, one of the best CS professors around! This class really requires a lot of time and practice. He gives you all the materials you'd need to succeed, just pay attention during his quizzes and don't rush the homework. His line for office hours are usually long so make sure you get there early!
He usually gives you a chance for extra credit if you don't satisfy with your test score.
Professor Foder is very responsible and very helpful to his students. His course is well controlled for every detail. He has a very good reputation among the students because he will think the way from the perspective of the student, give the student absolute trust, and hope his students can learn from his course. I really enjoy his class.
Great professor, definite the professor you want to take in Stony Brook.
Very clear instruction. He will go out of his way to help you and ensure that the information is understood. I left class feeling that I understood the information very well and with a project I could put on my resume.
The course was very well organized. We built a compiler for Java in Python, which I was able to add as a completed project to my GitHub. All lectures were online. Fodor cleared up a lot of my confusion and made functional programming simple and clear.
My favorite teacher in my 4-year college life!
I took CSE 114 with Prof. Fodor and found that he was a very talented lecturer who conveyed knowledge in a clear way. His projects and homeworks are well targeted to improve understanding and grasp of the material. The course was also well organized with an interesting final project. I'm grateful I had Fodor as my professor. I learned a lot.
Professor Fodor is an excellent professor. I took CSE 307 with him and he was very helpful and responsible. He listened to students a lot and loved to change based on students demand. Besides, he is patient and helpful in his office hour. There is a daily "quiz" in class but it doesn't count into your grade and turns out to be extremely useful.
I've taken both CSE114 and CSE307 with professor Fodor. He's definitely one of the best professors I've taken classes with in Stony Brook. His lecture is well-organized and very interesting. He is always willing to answer students' questions and make sure most people keep up with the class. He's also very helpful outside of class.
I will try to take any class with professor Fodor.
Good professor, don't skip the course and DO YOUR HOMEWORK you would be fine.
He is a nice person, who is patient and willing to answer students even after classes. What he taught in cse114 is really helpful in my further study. The quiz hand out in the class is not difficult and can help student better understand about the course. It's a fundamental course in cs. I believe professor Fodor will help you a lot.
He is easily accessible outside of class and responds promptly to emails; it's obvious that he cares about the students. In addition, he has a very thorough understanding of the material he teaches. I found the class project, implementing a Java compiler in Python, very interesting.
Fantastic lecturer, gives only a few challenging homeworks and the tests are open-everything and rather simple. Very nice and approachable, and a generous grader.
Excellent professor. I took CSE 114 with him and he was very helpful and responsible, he solves the homework problem with the student, he likes to help the student.
I took CSE 260 with him and was surprised by how involved he was with our class. He took the time to look over the final projects with us and give us useful feedback. The line to his office is almost always present and long. It's obvious that the students appreciate his efforts and enjoy his teaching. Would recommend students to take his classes.
I've had Professor Fodor for two semesters so far for CSE 160 and CSE 260. Besides being a great lecturer, it's very clear that he cares for his students and often being flexible with certain assignments (within reason). I feel that the class gained a deeper understanding of java after taken that class. The projects are also always really fun!
Paul Fodor is one of the most highly respected teachers in Stony Brook and he is a great Introductory Computer Science Teacher. I had the pleasure of taking his class and he just loves to make sure that everyone in the class understands whats going on and he gives reasonable expectations for his class. Definitely a favorite of mine.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors at Stony Brook. I took CSE 114 with him, and I learned a lot from him. His expectations are clear, and if you work hard, it will be a very enjoyable class and a great experience.
Professor Fodor is one of the best instructors I've ever had. He is very passionate about teaching and does and excellent job. I've had him for several classes already and he has done a great job for all of them.
Good Professor to take for CSE114. Always available on his office hour. If you have any problem with your HWs just go and ask, and he is always willing to help you. BTW, his accent is cute lol. CSE114 is intensive so beware of the workload, do your best time management. His 307 is also good depends on what I heard from my peer classmates.
I took CSE 114 and CSE 215 with Professor Fodor. He gives good guidance to his students and doesn't rush his lectures. He's easy to talk to, especially during office hours as long as your questions are thought out. As long as you manage your time well, he can truly help you to understand the topics that he teaches.
He really goes in depth to make sure everyone in the lecture understands the topic and is willing to give students as much help as possible.
He gives interesting lectures. really helpful.
Prof. Fodor is the best professor in SBU!
Coursework for CSE505 is easy enough to understand if you put in the time and show up to class. Professor Fodor is one of the best professors at SBU, he is accessible, presents the information in a clear and precise way, is open to answering questions both in class and in office hours and grades fairly.
Professor Fodor's lecture was effective and clear, and always learned a lot. You must go to the lecture to get a good grade, also of course truly learn some stuff. Professor Fodor is super nice, don't be afraid to ask him questions.
I have take three courses with Professor Fodor: CSE 160, CSE 260, and CSE 307. All three classes have been great learning experiences. It is clear that Fodor cares about us students learning the material and is always able to provide good examples for the material he is teaching.
Paul Fodor is an excellent professor. His expertise in logic programming lay a strong foundation for us. He is very considerate in grading . He has in-depth knowledge in subject and explains it very clearly
Prof. Fodor is super good. Attending his lecture is a true joy, and I am pretty sure 95%+ people will enjoy his lecture with clear explanation and practical examples.
One of the best professors you will ever have in your undergraduate CS curriculumn at Stony Brook. Will look out for you and pretty much has open office hours.
This man made me love CS. Amazing professor.
I was a student of Professor Fodor for three semesters in a row, for the classes CSE 160, CSE 260, and CSE307. In each of these classes, Professor Fodor went above and beyond to help students learn material, and his expertise in the subject areas was quite apparent.
Professor Fodor is an excellent lecturer and professor. His lectures is one of best I had in my college life, he understands the material very will and is able to explain it to the students. He is always very kind and patient in his office hour, and is always willing to help students with homework questions and course materials.
His lectures is one of best I had in my college life, he understands the material very will and is able to explain it to the students. He is always very kind and patient in his office hour, and is always willing to help students with homework questions and course materials.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors in the Computer Science department. His lectures for CSE 215 were very clear and helpful. He gave us a lot of extra credit for doing the homework in LaTex. He was always available during his office hours if you had any difficulty with the course.
He is one of the most helpful and friendly professor I have come across. His methods of teaching and explaining things are very well thought out and given at a level that the students can understand. His enthusiasm in class make the lectures enjoyable. Overall, he is an excellent professor.
Took classes with Prof Fodor for the Honors intro CS sequence at SBU. He lectures very eloquently and takes time to answer everyone's questions. Test difficulty can range, but has more than reasonable expectations for HW and labs and gives worksheets with practice questions to discuss and reinforce understanding
Had CSE114 with Prof Fodor, and it was one of most helpful and remarkable courses I ever took. I was not knowing much about computer science, but his course helped me so much on understanding major concepts of it along with very practical coding practices. Prof Foder is very helpful and patient with students. Take his courses! Highly recommended!
Professor Fodor has excellent skills in teaching. I have taken two courses with him during my master, principle of programming language and computing in logic. He shows strong care and responsibilities to all the students in the class and he is very patient to answer any questions. He is also a hard working professor.
Professor Fodor is a hard working person. If you went to his office hour, you can always see a long line waiting for the suggestion or guidance of their assignments. Besides, he is highly skilled not only in programming but also the research having a lot of papers published at the top conference. I learned a lot from him. Anyway, I would
Paul Fodor is a very engaging and knowledgeable professor. I highly recommend taking his classes if you have the opportunity to do so.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors that I've ever had. He has tremendous patience in working with his students, particularly when explaining OOP concepts in a digestible format during his lectures. I appreciated his open-door policy in helping students struggling with the coursework as well as those looking for academic advice.
Professor Fodor is a great professor! I had the opportunity to take his CSE307 lecture and it was a fantastic learning experience. Highly recommend taking his courses; he is very understanding and flexible when it comes to deadlines.
Professor Fodor is one of the best faculty I've acquainted with at Stony Brook University. When I was taking his course, he answered an extensive number of piazza questions so fast that initially, I thought the responses were automated(it wasn't!). He cares for his students and it really shows in his time spent writing detailed answers.
I've taken 4 of Fodor's classes, and all of them are consistent in expectation, lecture style, and quizzes. Attendance is primarily enforced through quizzes, which serve more as a "let's make sure you understand what we went over" rather than a "Gotcha!" Tests are fair and the professor emphasizes learning and understanding.
He stepped in to take over the class the week before finals when our prof had to go on medical leave. He made the final exam extremely reasonable and did the best he could to teach us given the limited time we had left in the semester.
One of Best professors in CS Major, he is really nice, friendly and easy to talk. You would not pass the class which has so great professor.
This was Fodor's first time teaching 316, a new-ish course, and I've heard of some problems with the McKenna sections beforehand. But there weren't any big problems. The work isn't bad and he's quick to get back to you if you have questions. He was also a god when it came to benefit of the doubt, extensions, and extra credit.
Professor Fodor is one of the best professors I ever met at the Stony Brook University (SBU). I used to take his CSE505-Computing with Logic and learned much knowledge and skills related to Prolog. I feel so lucky to take Prof. Fodor's course during my study at Stony Brook University.
He's amazing! So helpful and caring!
I took CSE316 with Professor Fodor, and it was an easy class. His lectures were sometimes too dry, but he was trying his best to keep everyone focused during each lecture. The assignments were not hard at all. You just do what you have to do, and you will pass with an A or A-.
Fodor is good at explaining and goes in-depth on the material. He uses slides, but he'll use other means too such as a chalkboard to demonstrate. Leaves room to ask questions in class, so while you can attend fully online if you want, it's better to be there to ask q's. Labs/hw can b tricky but not bad if you pay attention and study as fit!
I love this professor. I was going through a really rough time mid-semester and ended the semester with a C in the class. Even though I got a C, Fodor is a great teacher that cares about his students and is willing to give extensions.
Professor Fodor is not the worst but not the best I give him a poor rating because he does not respond to emails. He gives little curving from the cutoffs. He gives 10% on labs for 30 labs. Strict grader for exams worth 25% each and doesn't match practice sample and unfortunate for people who have huge anxiety and are not great test-takers.
Best CS prof
Fodor has taught over 16 different classes at SBU and if I could, I would have taken more. He has treated me with respect, is a consummate professional and goes by his word. Although he has recently had a baby, he never cancelled our class and I never felt rushed when I asked a question/needed help. One of the best Prolog researchers in the world.
tests are very easy and correspond to his lectures. He's also very understandable labs are not mandatory and all you have to do is submit the easy assignment. also offers an easy extra credit to boost your grade. final is not cumulative so you dont have to study many topics. Also records lectures.
Amazing proffessor
Best professor to take 114 with, no doubt. Built a strong foundation in Java taking this course.
THE BEST PROFESSOR YOU CAN GET FOR THIS COURSE. Super caring about his students. Always says "I want to help you".
FODOR THE GOAT!
He cares about his students and is always open to helping you out if you're struggling. He assigns a reasonable amount of homework and labs. You'll build a strong foundation of Java taking his class. Only reason my grade is low is cause I didn't apply myself in the beginning.
Best prof you could get, just because the other options are so much worse in comparison. He records his lectures and his labs have flexible times so you basically build your own schedule. Bit of an accent and the labs did get ahead of lecture material sometimes but not too hard to figure out. The extra credit gave four entire points to your grade.
HE IS THE GOAT!!!
He is the GOAT. His lectures are easy to understand and he records his lectures. For exams, you have to understand the concepts of the material in the slides, if you want to be more in depth you can always use the book. Lastly, if you ever are struggling, just go to his office hours or meet him after class, he will help you understand everything!
