HE'S THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
he is a horrible teacher. avoid his classes if you can. he does not really *answer* questions so that you can "figure it out on your own." he does not explain things well and when asked to will just repeat what he said originally. very unhel
Prof Friedman was the best ever! He taught me so much, but more than that, he told me I could do the math course i was in when i thought i couldn't.
first math teacher that makes me take notes in math class...
Let me tell this, this professor is such a joke, he shoudl not be teaching Math at all, I mean he barely understood the materail his is teaching. absolutely horrible teacher, avoid his classes if possible. he can not explain anything clearly.miserable gu
made me think. I'm a better student for it.
He sometimes smiles and laughs at students who make mistakes. I enjoyed his jokes.
One of the best teachers i have ever had.

Great teacher...makes material understandable, very approachable.
Lots of (relevant) work, but I've learned more math in these 10 weeks than in the last year. Prof also shows how to think about how to start a proof. Good stuff.
He is obnoxious, and his teaching is awful. The course is poorly designed and the math taught is just stupid. Instead of focusing on important calculus topics, we spent most of the time on silly things. And his teaching is confusing and boring.
i wanted to be a math major before i had paul friedman. now, i want nothing to do with the subject because of him
you can learn a lot from his class and he is very helpful tooo.
He proved to me that I could do this class. Most work i've ever done to succeded in this class, went to office hours every day, spent way too much time on calc. But I didn't think I could do it and he showed me I could. Great professor, a little pretentious and sometimes seems like an ass, but he does care if you show that you care
came to union wanting to teach math...the i had paul friedman. i no longer want anything to do with math. he killed it for me
He paces around the room too much ...it makes me nervous.
Great Professor. Explains stuff really clear. But has to be prepared in his class. One of the best math professor I have ever had, really learning a lot from his class. He really cares about his students. If you really interest in math, take his class.
good professor. huge emphasis on homework which is the key to his class.
The best math teacher I have had so far in math courses at Union. Very clear and concise. Very thorough. And his tests are extremely fair; I would go as far as to say he is very lenient on grading but I won't complain. He is very organized and keeps you organized as well. Read the textbook and do the homework and you are fine.
really hard class...if fall behind almost impossible to catch up...hard to understand and no tolerance for anything...didnt feel like he really tried to help...feels more like he looks down upon you and enjoys feeling more inteligent...
Very impersonal, will not help you outside of class
Best math professor I've ever had - easy to understand, extremely willing to help as long as your willing to show a little effort.
Horrible. This man is outright spiteful and resents his students. He looks down upon us and makes you feel like crap for not understanding the material. Worst teacher I've had at Union.
Friedman was very hard to understand in class and when you go to him for help he makes you feel stupid about not knowing the information. His class was the breaking point of my deciding not to become a math minor. I would only need to take 2 more classes to get the minor but he made me start to dislike math.
Good teacher, but extremely demanding.
Worst teacher I've had at Union. Not helpful at all/unfair exams. My GPA prior to taking his class was 3.82, I don't want to know what it is now. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.
ive had friedman a bunch of times. he basically expects full dedication to the class. a bad attitude will leave you with a bad grade. on the flipside, sometimes his focus on the precise linguistics of math-speak during in- class dialogue leaves students feeling upset and annoyed. best prof ever? nope. a nice guy in the end? yeah just do hw&shutup
He's intimidating at first, but as long as you come to class, do the HW, and even the reading while putting an obvious effort into all of it, you'll be fine. He'll make sure you understand the material very well so you can do well on the hard exams, which he actually grades fairly leniently. Nice once you get to know him and you learn a lot.
Most challenging prof I've had at Union. That said, he challenged me to a point where I was forced to do the homework and attend every class--and PAY ATTENTION. I took more from this course than any other at Union thus far, and Friedman is the reason for that. He is very hard but an awesome teacher. He is NOT an unfair grader if you do the work.
Very demanding class, but if you put in the effort and go to office hours, you'll def do better. Taught me how to LEARN. fantastic professor. wish we had a textbook though, bc course is tough. Really overall a great prof though, hard grader though but I matured as a learner
He is extremely arrogant and has really bad attitudes towards his students. Not helpful at all. Tests are tricky. Avoid him at ANY COST!
DIFFICULT CLASS for 1st time freshman. Tons of critical thinking with the way he explains. Make sure you have taken AP Calc before you take the 113 class because it will def help you. hes kind of arrogant in class but hes helpful in office hours, its easier if you go with a friend to office hours
Professor Friedman will challenge you past your boundaries. While he is difficult, it is how a college level course should be. He makes you think beyond the answer into why each sentence of your proof flows and makes sense. Those who want to learn, grow, and be challenged should definitely take a course with him.
Mr. Friedman is a fantastitc teacher. He does assign a lot of homework but for my class it usually wasn't checked so it was mostly there to use to understand the material better. He's great with office hours and being available to help and not making you feel stupid for asking questions. Hard work but reasonable.
Tough class all together, but if you work for it and go see Paul for extra help, it will be doable! He is clear in his notes and will explain any concept until you can understand it. Had the most well thought out lesson plans of any teacher.
Makes you feel stupid by yelling at you that you are not trying your hardest if you ask for help. Teaches like we are all math majors and expects you to put 30 hours of work in outside of class every week
He is a great professor who is willing to answer questions and clarify further concepts. He assigns homework but lets you know in advance when he will check/collect it. Very straight forward with his grading criteria. Study before quizzes or tests and youll be fine.
Professor Friedman is not a bad professor by any means, but he wouldn't be my first choice either. He is extremely smart and knows the subject inside and out, but beware; he isn't afraid to belittle you in front of the whole class. Homework can be long, but very useful. Tests are very fair if you do the work, but grading can be harsh.
Prof. Friedman is an inspirational, albeit difficult, educator. He works hard to ensure he's doing everything possible to facilitate your learning - and he expects you to do the same for yourself. Put in the hours outside of class, and reach out to him when you need help (responds to emails quickly, and occasionally offers extensions). A great guy.
Doesn't explain things in different ways.
Try to take this course with any other professor. I went to office hours multiple times a week during the whole term and it did not help me or my grade. Worst class of my term and brought down my GPA tremendously. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Great professor! He explains things thoroughly and clearly, I was always able to understand and keep up with the notes.
Great professor! He explains things thoroughly and clearly, I was always able to understand and keep up with the notes. He is a very fair grader (definitely not as tough as the teachers I had in high school) If you do the work you will do well.
Paul Friedman is very knowledgeable, articulate, and genuinely cared about how well his students do. I was in his class for 110 and 112. His review sessions and homework are extremely valuable. I would recommend his class to anyone.
Prof. Friedman is a passionate professor. He is always willing to explain topics again if need be (although not always during class, but always at office hours). A professor that really cares!
Unhelpful explanations, condescending. He's very confusing when teaching, if he thinks he doesn't like you, you're screwed. Get ready for a rough term, I worked so hard for his class and barely passed.
Calc 1 was pretty rough for me I had alot of wholes in my knowledge of calculus, I was very worried going into calc 2 however I quickly found it to be my favorite class. Professor Friedman is passionate about his teaching and it shows that he really cares how well he portrays the material. While the class is hard, if you put in the work its worthit
Professor Friedman is a man who loves math and he is really good at it. I really enjoyed the lectures. The only thing that disappoints me is that he has the attitude of the ''I know everything'' guy. He thinks he knows everything and he is picking on you when you are not that specific for an answer. Not good feedback for exams.
Lectures are brilliant, he gives them almost in a way that is like a story and it definitely helps to keep me engaged during class. I've often gone to class early to ask questions and he has always been open to answering the. Weekly review sessions are held and extremely beneficial.
He doesn't submit grades "for the sake of our minds" nor does he grade homework, it just seems like he's lazy and doesn't bother with putting any effort into teaching. His class is very dry and it being in the morning makes it insufferable. He sounds knowledgeable but is super arrogant "only my way is correct"and is not good at explaining concepts.
Friedman is the best math professor youll ever get. So passionate about teaching math. He breaks down the steps for solving stuff and explains why every step works so you actually know the point of the math your working on and that just makes it so much easier to understand.
Paul is the best math teacher at Union. He gives a lot of homework but it is optional. If you don't do the HW you will not pass but you don't necessarily need to do it all. He is a genius and hates dumb questions but his style of teaching is better than the other professors. Extra help sessions are always before any quizzes or exams. Worth Taking
If you take Calc 1/Diff Calc DONT TAKE HIS CLASS! This class goes fast & a harsh grader. A rude guy overall. He gets upset over the tiniest things. I dropped the course because I would spend hours studying & he just criticized my efforts. If you like math then it might be easy for you but if you need extra help don't expect it from this professor
Professor Friedman is a very smart man, who knows his subject in and out. He was understanding and tries to help students if they ask for it. Do not skip class, as that is a surefire way to fail. He gives clear and concise feedback on tests.
The class was meant to be a PreCalc and Calc class, but he taught the class as if you had to know both before even starting the course. He was rude and condescending in class, but easier to talk to one-on-one during office hours. He would not be helpful when asking questions in class and made people feel stupid as well. DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!
Professor. Friedman had bully like characteristics. At times I felt I was unsafe in his presence. I recall one time I sought him out after class to meet and review a concept, and he put his hand in my face and said, "I'm not your tutor. Figure it out on your own". The protection of this professor speaks to Unions lack of integrity of integrity.
After taking Professor Friedman I had to write a review about him since this was the worst professor I have ever had. Not only was he terrible at teaching but he also was also disrespectful to students in class. There is no question that he is the one writing the great reviews about himself.
Honestly, he was rude to me in class and in office hours.
Professor Friedman is a fantastic lecturer and as long as you go to class you'll succeed. He hates when people ask questions that show they haven't done the homework or read the textbook. If you make a good effort to try to figure something out he'll be very accommodating in office hours.
He was definitely more lecture-styled than I was used to for math. Calc 2 is hard and you need a professor who can explain the material in simple terms but Prof. Friedman seems more advanced to be teaching this course. He was also a bit abrasive. Do the homework.
I like Paul Friedman's lectures. Unfortunately I feel as though he comes across as condescending. I really enjoy participating in class usually but he makes me not want to really say much as he asks open ended questions and then gets upset when you misunderstand his question or don't answer using the exact phrasing he expects. Overall, okay.
His expectations are challenging but clear. Participation and focus in class work wonders.
I love paul his lectures are super engaging and informative and he goes at a good pacs
Paul is THE WORST professor I have had at Union. It wasn't that the subject material was hard to understand but he made it very complicated for no reason and loved to assign shit tonne of homework every day along with book reading. The worst thing was that his next day's lectures and exams were based on homework and reading. AVOID PAUL FRIEDMAN!!
Paul Friedman has the most condescending and abrasive personality of any professor I've ever met or been taught by. If he decides you aren't worth his time, he doesn't care how you do. If you are a slow learner, you're screwed because everything must be done to the speed he expects, which is inhumanly fast. Good mathematician, bad professor.
Honestly, Prof Friedman made this class so much harder than it had to be. He was rather condescending within class and review sessions. Would encourage you to ask questions, but once you asked them he would kind of clock you and not answer it. Be 100% up do date with ALL pre-calc and calc 1 knowledge because he gets MAD AF if you don't remember.
Prof Friedman is a man you either love or hate. He has the type of personality that screams “I know it all”. He expects so much out of you and made calc 2 so much more difficult than needed. I never wanna go through pain like that again. Nearly all ur grade is exams and he rarely curves ur grade. AVOID AVOID AVOIDDDD.
He thinks he's smarter than everyone and will talk down to you. Very narcissistic
Working hard is not enough. I poured my blood sweat and tears into this class and still barely passed. DO NOT take him unless you are 100% prepared to be put through hell. Office hours are no help because he just lectures you on how bad you are doing instead of actually helping you learn.
He will talk down to you and make you feel like you don't deserve his time. Awful teacher
very tough grader, gives awful feedback, makes problems hard for no reason other than to be difficult
very tough prof to have
awful lecturer
Honestly the only thing I can say about this professor is don't take him unless you're ready to be talked down to
take him only if you are already well versed in calc2 material
makes fun of you for asking questions in class
very difficult grader
Honestly he is very narcissistic and believe to be correct all the time. If that's what your into than go ahead and take his class
Classes are clear and easy to follow. He does sound like he has impossible expectations for students in exams and quizzes, always stating how surprised he is when many people get some common mistakes wrong, but overall a nice person. Make sure that you know the materials well and you'll be fine.
Professor refused to help me in office hours, humiliated me in front of the class by threatening to steal my iPad for being on the wrong page of notes, overall he doesn't seem happy to be a professor
He's a good teacher; his lectures were understandable but the second that you left class and attempted to do homework it was hard to implement the things he taught. He doesn't check your homework, but I do recommend doing it as you will need the practice.
