He makes everything as clear as possible. The notes he gives in class are outstanding. Makes microecon a fun class. I recommend him to everyone!
Awesome teacher. He explains things thorougly and has great notes and diagrams to go along with his lectures.
good professor.. clear notes... highly recommended to take his classes
Good teacher, never taken a econ class b4 and i am doing well! he is very helpful inside and outside of class. TAKE HIM.... good choice!
be prepared to work ur butt off!
This is a fairly challenging class, so pay attention. If you lose track for even a day, forget it. That's what I did. He just repeats what he said in class if you ask him for help. Still, teaches the material well.
He will not round grades... his tests are VERY hard...so be prepared to work ur butt off
Can be difficult if you are looking for a blowoff class. If you actually want to learn some economics taught in a very straightforward manner, he is the teacher to take.
He is one of the best ECON prof I have had. He is very organized and writes down evrything you need to know on the board. I recommend him.
One of most excellent teachers I have ever had. He's so straightforward. His class is easy as long as you read the book and study.
I recomend this teacher! If you really want to understand the basics of econ, take his class!
Take him!! Really good professor, clear lecture notes, organized, willing to help as much as possible outside class, tests arent too bad, but as long as you study a bit, you're ok
He is ok, if you need any help go and ask him he is more than willing to help. He is fair and test are set up to be easy, but you don't get enough practice from homeowrk for the tests. And he is a bore in class be ready to bring a pillow
He is a very nice man and will help in any way possible. His tests are pretty straight forward, and he gives practice tests.
If you go to class, have a reasonable amount of intelligence, and some common sense, Econ 201 is a piece of cake.. Gabriel is whimsical and delightful.. Take his class
very nice man! test are staight forward! gives out study guides... and very nice
very good straight forward class. don't think you can skip a class though, you'll get way behind. don't even need to open the book, tests are right off of notes. tests are hard, but the study guides prepare you very well. only a few homework assignmen
Straightforward and easy to understand. However, class can get boring and you will definitely wander a few times. He's great help during office hours. You do need to study hard (its Econ, after all). Tests cover lectures. Hmwk is easy.
Very friendly, always willing to answer questions. Tests and homework are easy, straight from the notes and study guides. Lectures are boring, lots of notes. Book is not necessary, you don't need it for the test material.
don't get enough time to prepare for tests. is helpful and nice.
Great Professor. Explains material well, but very stingy on exams, especially in word problems. I recommend him because of his amazing lecture ability.
Wonderful Teacher. Extremely Clear. Study guides VERY helpful for tests. Makes econ as painless as possible.
Great teacher, come to class take notes, read a little on the side and it should be an A. do his practice problems, other than that listen to his lectures. definite take.
he is boring and a tool. dont get on his 'bad' side.
Nice guy. Class can get boring at times but he tries his best to make econ interesting. Problems on test are pretty basic and are simular to those from the homework and problem sets. 3 tests 50% Multi choice and 50% problems. homework is easy and worth 10%
He is very clear, willing to answer questions, easy homeworks, if you pay attention in class, the tests should be a breeze with just a little studying.
VERY GOOD TEACHER, VERYNICE, HOWEVER KINDOF IN A HURRY IF BOTHERED DURING OFFICE HOURS, WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS, AND DONT DISRUPT HIS CLASS, OVERALL I WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN
This is the CLEAREST prof. I've ever come across. He has everything laid out for you so there are no surprises. Learn exactly what he teaches you, including the ex., and nothing more and you'll do very well. He's a very nice man outside of class as well.
EASY! Very clear and very helpful. He'll give you study guides for tests--study those and you'll get an A. Easy homeworks. Just don't miss any class.
Great Proffesor. Would definitly take again. Makes ECON understandable and had great grading policy. Dont take anyone else!!!
Great Prof! He actually has a sense of humor as well. No curve, but homework is easy. Attend lecture and then read the book it will re-enforce his lecture!
Horrible teacher. He is a nice person but he's better off at some other job rather than teaching. Don't bother showing up to class, you will learn nothing. You learn this class from the books and the study guide if he is your professor. When writing on the board he is completely incoherent.
just wanted to say I took gabriel my freshman year and I wish I had taken him for 303 instead of merriman. His notes are clear and it's really easy to understand him.. You can learn a lot from him.. take him if given the option
nice and funny guy but not a good professor. he knows a ton about economics and his lectures are clear yet hard to follow.doesn't tell you what's on the tests. no curves even though half the class got F's and D's.
Gabriel is a great guy. His class is usually interesting, and he provides good materials in class to further the students' understanding of the subject matter. Gives 3-4 short, simple 10 point homework problems throughout the semester. Tests are almost completely from the book. Attendance not manditory, but recommended. I'd take him again.
Good prof. Econ is a hard subject unless you have a propensity or inclination toward that field, I would not want to teach it. He makes it very clear, and he will try to help, but you better have a good foundation of knowledge in econ or he will seem to be speaking a different language. Take him, if you get it, good, if not, try a different subject
Great professor, grade based on 3 easy homework assignments and 3 exams. Not too much reading, he provides you with material to help with studying for the exam. Overall an excellent class, im def. going to take him again.
Dr. Gab is a great professor. Lecture notes are very different, so don't miss class too often. I ended up with a B+, and that's without trying, and just reviewing class notes before tests. I definetly recommend Dr. Gab if you want an easy grade, with interesting lectures.
NOT MY FAVOURITE PROF. HE'S REALLY SMART & HE KNOWS HIS STUFF INSIDE OUT. HE'S NICE AND WILLING TO HELP.
Very helpful, very clear, just know the notes, a little of the book. Great teacher.
Great professor! In my opinion, the best econ professor at loyola. Very clear in his lectures, very helpful toward students, and funny at times. Knowing the hw problems and studying your lecture notes will prepare you for his exams. Midterm, 2 HW assignments, Essay, and the Final. A wonderful experience.
Professor Gabriel is a great professor. He is always delighted to see you during office hours if you have any questions. You must show up to his class to do well; what he does is very different from the book, but the book helps so read the assigned chapters. 1 Term Paper, 2HW assgs (great prep for tests), 1 midterm, 1 final. Take Gabriel for ECON.
This class is no problem. The tests are just like the homework. If you know the homework you will get a B. If you listen in class and know the homework you will get an A. Buying the book is unnecessary. Just study your notes.
Overall a good teacher. Would have a 2 tests, a final, and 3 graded homework assignments. the homework was graded with check system. Just pay attention in class, take notes, and you'll do well in this class.
Love this guy. He has 2 tests, a final, and 3 homeworks. Gives you plenty of opportunites to raise your grade. Funny guy and easy-going. Will help you if you need it. TAKE HIM!!!
love this guy. 2 test, 3 hw, and a final. Awsome teacher, easy to understand, funny. TAKE HIM!
He explains things, but I would not recommend this class if you have not previously taken microeconomics, there are 2 tests and a final, and 4 homework assignments. He hands out a study guide book .He does his job, but the subject is very hard to understand, and he does not make it interesting. Dont text or go online durin class he will get you
I like him, he is kinda cute for a old guy. You actually have to study for this class, 2 exams and a cumalative final, 3 HW's with an optional 4th one. I bombed the first test but studied and got A's on the second one and the final. A word of advice dont text, surf the web,or talk in class or he will call you out and embarass you!
Great professor!! Class can get kinda boring at times, but it's not too hard. Everything on the test he lectures about in class, so attendance is pretty important. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Pretty good class, it is crucial to go to class and take notes. All of his tests are based on the homework that is not mandatory, and he provides answers. I think he has anger issues though, because he gets pissed quite easily. Overall, if you can memorize 3-4 hw problems, its an easy A.
Very clear with straight-forward tests. Will help you get where you want to go if you just ask for help and study. He really doesn't get angry that often-- he only has a low bull tolerance when people are talking while he is.
does not stick to what he teaches you in class. class notes are all over the place. exam is nothing like what we talked about in class. makes you memorize the formulas. increadibly hard grader. oh and doesnt time the lenght of the exam so you have 50 minuets to finish it but it takes you 2 hours to do so.
I liked him. Granted, the material isn't easy, but he presents it in a way that makes it understandable. The exams are similar [not exactly] to the homework and study guides. There are 3 exams with 10 multiple choice and short answers on each exam.
The material is hard and you have to keep up. He grades pretty hard too. I felt like I knew the material he just took off a lot of points when he did take off points. I went in for help before every exam. Do the homework and take good notes. He's hard but I learned a lot, if you want to really learn micro, take him.
so this professor is very helpful and friendly. However, he is extremely hard on grading. takes points off unnecessary. expects you to memorize every single formula for the test, and if you dont, he will take 2 or 3 points off on each formula you did not include. overall, he is a good professor, but way too hard and picky when it comes to the exam.
Gabriel was a very cool guy, but he is a really tough grader. We had 3 homework assignments and 3 exams. Attendance was not mandatory, but I was lost if I missed one class. Would not recommend Gabriel!!
He was not nice. Unclear and incoherent explanations with very tough grading standards.
This was a good Econ class. One big paper and 3 exams. I really enjoyed him as a professor and would take his class again.
He's a tough professor and made me work really hard in his class, but I really appreciated his dedication and teaching. Take very good notes on his lectures, as the exams only cover that material. He assigns readings, but they are mostly just review of the lectures. Not many assignments or tests, but I had to prepare a TON for them.
Professor Gabriel is an excellent professor! I had him for ECON 201 as well as 303. Make sure you attend class and write down everything he writes on the board. That is the information on the tests. Three tests at 30% each and 3 homeworks at 10% total are the only grades, so make sure you understand the material. Definitely would recommend!
Gabriel is very overly hard teacher for ECON 303. His class should not be this hard, the other 303 classes are relatively much much easier than his class. The class is like a calculus class. If you are not an econ major and just need this class because its a core class, then definitely do not take Paul.
Professor Gabriel is a good teacher. You can skip class but it can later screw you on the homework. Teaches by standing in the front of the class and writes on the board. Kind of quiet so sit toward the front. Tests can be challenging but not overwhelmingly challenging. Take him
Professor Gabriel is so focused on the theory of Microeconomics that it detracts from any useful application. Not only that, but he fails to mention any ethical implications of the theories such as profit maximization and driving down wages. This is a shame for a Jesuit institution such as Loyola.
Knowledgeable professor and experienced economist, so good choice for econ majors. No slides, simply writes everything on the board. Do not spend $ on the book, you'll never use it, just take good notes. Grade is based on 3 exams (25% ea., just study sample problems and the study guide he gives); 3 homeworks (10% total) and one paper (15%, 6 pp.).
This was one of my favorite Econ classes at LUC.. A super cool mix of empirical and theoretical coursework, with a good spread of topics covered. A funny, genuine guy who I'm happy to know is chairing our dept. in regards to the unfavorable "Jesuit values" comment below- coming from a leftist and supporter of Jesuit education, gtfo. it's 303.
This was one of my favorite classes at LUC. This made me want to be an ECON major. He knows his stuff and teaches well. Be prepared to study, but honestly if you are in his classes you are most likely an ECON or FINC major so you know how to study.
A true gem. You should pay attention in his class, but when you do it all makes sense. 3 tests, 3 HW assignments and a research paper. Would take again!
AMAZING Econ professor. Took him for intro/intermediate Micro and Labor. One of the most clear professors I've ever had. Tests are exactly like the homework/study guides and he never tries to trick you with any questions. Don't use your phone or laptop in class or he'll call you out. Go to class even though it isn't mandatory. Fantastic professor!
One of the best Econ professors @ Loyola. He doesn't use power points, only writes notes and graphs on the whiteboard. Your grade is based on 3 tests, each worth 30%. Final 10% is made up of 3 homework assignments. His tests are problems from the homework and he gives you a review sheet before tests. If you can, take his classes.
Prof Gabriel is totally old-school. All his lectures are on the whiteboard and engaging, and he will go out of his way to help you understand concepts if you ask. Super respectful and collected, but randomly has really funny days - take his class and learn!
This class is entirely lecture-based. Professor Gabriel is brilliant, but there seems to be difficulty with teaching what he knows to students well. Going to his office hours also doesn't help much. Best advice is to show up to class, ask classmates for help, and form study groups. The class becomes more interesting towards the end of the semester.
Really wonderful professor who fully understands the content. All of his classes are old school lecture based with heavy use of whiteboard. Grading is very fair and if you do bad on one test your final can replace the bad grade. If you are an Econ major you should for sure take him cause he's great as well as the Econ department chair.
Econ can be a hard class to pay attention to, especially online. Professor Gabriel is so sweet, and makes himself readily available to help you. His class was mostly asynchronous, with a weekly synchronous review. Makes it easy to understand and his exams are open note, score. Take him!
3 hw's and 3 exams. He gives out notes and has practice problems every week that aren't graded. Super organized, pretty hard class because there's a lot of content, need to show up and take notes. I'm not good at Econ so this class took a lot of effort. He is super helpful if you ask for help.
This class is harder than any class I've taken at Loyola. Professor Gabriel seems to only be able to talk about theory and rarely gives real-world applicable examples. 3 exams which are extremely difficult and worth 90% of the grade and 3 homework assignments. This class is more like a 300 level math class than anything else.
Professor Gabriel uses a very classic style of teaching -- lots of writing on the whiteboard and working through problems with the class. He creates packets every week with all the information you need in them and is always happy to help with questions outside of class. 10/10 guy.
Paul Gabriel is great. Labor Econ was the most interesting Econ class I took during my time at Loyola and I was genuinely learning things for my own benefit rather than just trying to memorize for exams. Exams are tough but you get a 1 sided cheat sheet so make sure you fill that out well. Take this course!
Although you might need to bust your butt to study for exams outside of class because his lectures may be overwhelming and confusing in class, he provides so many resources and the one-sided cheat sheet for exams is a savior. I've had him for a few econ classes and there is definitely a reason he is so respected. Caring, intelligent, realistic prof
Paul is a great professor. His class has a solid structure to it. It's based on three exams and three homework assignments. The last exam replaces one of the first two if it is better and counts for 60% of course grade. Between attending lectures, completing weekly practice problem, and submitting homework I thought the course was manageable.
Super kind, knowledgeable professor. Old-school lectures heavy with content, so you need to come to class to do well. Breaks down concepts in an understandable way with note-sheets. Class can feel like it moves quickly sometimes, but that's the nature of the course. Exams are straightforward and you get a cheat-sheet for formulas. Very good prof.
6HW and he drops lowest grade. 2 tests 1 final and final replaces lowest test grade. Not too hard if you learn the practice problems. He gives out note sheets which are very helpful. You also make an equation sheet for tests. Class is very dry and he says a lot of extra stuff, so you don't NEED to go but it helps. Just study and you should do well.
Dr. Gabriel gives awesome note sheets with everything you could possibly need to know for homework/exams. His lectures are a little boring, but overall he is a great guy and teaches the material really well.
Professor Gabriel is fantastic teacher. Lectures are very organized and easy to understand if you follow along. He has handouts each week that are the exact info in lecture. Only 3 homework assignments (1 before each Exam including the final). Very friendly and enjoyable. Made me enjoy learning econ. I would highly recommend.
He was great I'm taking him again for econ 303. Recommend.
Prof. Gabriel is very kind and devoted, one of the few professors who treats his students like adults. Your grade comprises of 3 very easy hw which are based on the examples he does in class, and 3 exams which are generally pretty easy and based on the weekly practice problems. Coming to class and taking hand-written notes is crucial for success
Professor Gabriel had very clear lectures which were easy to follow and understand. Your grade is comprised of three homeworks based on practice questions given with each lesson and three tests based on the homeworks as well as lecture questions. The final is not cumulative which is very nice.
Idk why he has such high ratings because his class is structured awfully. He doesn't post grades so you never know your grade in the class, and half the time the class averages were 70's. He has a very old-school way of teaching that most students find it difficult to pay attention to. So many of his students didn't or barely passed the class
201 with him is straightforward. Three easy homework assignments along with three exams, one of which is the non-cumulative final. He posts the notes before class so the lectures are just reinforcement. Each week he posts practice questions related to the lectures that will help you immensely if you review them before tests. Attendance is optional.
He has been one of my favorite teachers in college. The class is a lecture, however he writes all of the notes and graphs on a whiteboard so it is easy to follow and is interactive. He gives great packets of all the stuff taught for the week. The grade is made up of three tests and three homework assignments. Would recommend to everyone.
Lol, I did not pass his class. It was so hard because he is super quiet, and has messy handwriting so his lectures aren't organized well. His tests are just random Econ content that we barely discussed in class and the class averages were usually in the 70's. Beware
Avoid this class at all costs. Lectures make no sense and are super random, you will have to teach yourself. "Optional" hw is graded for accuracy and the hw is NOTHING like the exams (lots of missing information on the exam which makes it impossible to do the problems). Save yourself and take someone else.
i love prof gabriel. his lectures are super easy to follow. the class is graded on 3 exams, but each exam has an extra credit homework assignment that can be up to 8 bonus points that helps. this class was easy to follow along to in my opinion.
Professor Gabriel is a good professor. His lectures are dry, but he covers all relevant material, provides notes, is very kind and willing to help outside of class, and offers optional extra credit homework assignments with problems that are very similar to test questions. If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the HW, it's an easy A.
Attendence wasn't mandatory, but if you miss a day you will be quite behind. If you go to every class and pay attention you are guaranteed an A. Class is very easy and Paul is a cool guy that likes to crack jokes sometimes.
I do not recommend taking this professor! 3 exams are 90% of your grade and 3 homework are worth 10%. He's very strict on the homework and grades very old school. There are no cheat sheets on exams. He's very quiet when he speaks it could be quite difficult to hear him, and it's even more difficult to read his handwriting.
Paul is a funny guy but his class is a drag. If you have no knowledge of econ, goodluck. he speaks quietly and his handwriting is hard to read. Attendance not mandatory but if you miss its tough to catch up. 3 exams worth 90% of your grade that are not at all similar to the practice he gives us. all his reviews seem biased. DONT TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
Dr. Gabriel is super smart and you can see by how he lectures. He uses the white board and barely has to refer to his notes. He is also very accessible outside of class, through email and Office Hours. He is a kind teacher who understands that ECON is hard but he does such a good job of teaching it. Would definitely take him for a higher class!
This class was a drag, but Prof G is nice. Very old school, and gives exams in the blue book. Class is made up of 3 hws and 2 exams, but it is not easy. You really need to study a lot to do well in this class. I thought I failed cuz of how hard the final was but I guess not
Old school tedious lectures. Youll do well on the MC if you do the homework and practice sets. Free-response requires you to know how to graph (only shown in lectures, so go to class, haha). Final would have taken me out if I didn't know how to graph. unpopular opinion, the study guide is pretty on point but no examples/practice He's funny sometimes
Pretty chill and funny guy except for that one time he did a complete 180 and called out this blonde kid in the back of the class for talking. If you're reading this blonde kid, I'm sorry but that was the funniest thing ever. Graded on 3 exams and 3 HWs. You'll fail if you don't know your vocab or how to graph.
Professor Gabriel's lectures are straightforward and easy to follow. With clear notes, practice questions, and 3 exams, the class is manageable. I found unstuckstudy helpful for test prep, alongside the provided resources.
I LOVE PAUL! The class consists of 3 HW and 3 exams. He's a tedious grader, so be cautious. He provides weekly practice and breakdowns for the week. He's always happy to help. Honestly, those who struggled didn't put in the effort. The short-answer questions are VERY similar to the HW & the MC was VERY similar to the weekly practice. I recommend!
Professor Gabriel is great. He's very funny and keeps his would-be dry lectures interesting and engaging. Since there's not much room for error, it's pretty important to attend and pay attention every class. He has supplemental stuff on Sakai but it usually doesn't cover all the bases he touches on during class. Take him as often as you can!
Worst prof I've had at Loyola. I literally have no idea how he has positive reviews. After the first exam more then half the class dropped the exam. The way the class is structured you bomb one you're cooked for the rest of the class. exams are worth 90% and homework is worth 10% and he doesn't give easy 100%'s for the homework either.
I like this guy, Im a neuro major and decided to take econ to expand my palette. He explains concepts well and provides lots of prep for exams such as study guides and supplemental notes. Week sheets are optional and have questions that are on the exams. Only thing I didn't like was that exams were 90% and HW 10%, was also hard to get 100s on HW.
Chill professor always willing to help students when they're struggling, you only get like 3 homework assignments but it means you have to be prepared for the 2 tests he gives out since that is what the majority of your grade is based on. Overall would recommend for ECON
Prof. Gabriel was great. He is very lecture-oriented; grade is determined by 3 homework assignments and 3 exams. Homework is very short though and exam problems are very similar to his practice questions. Lecture material is not always exciting but he does his best to be engaging.
Prof. Gabriel was an interesting professor though I struggled to keep up with what was going on (thats just me personally). He has practice problems and is open for office hours whenever needed. His lectures are boring but you have to pay attention to everything and ask questions if you are confused. The micro econ class is bad regardless of prof.
Prof. Gabriel definitely knows what he is talking about. The exams are definitely something that can seem daunting and require some good studying (you cannot just walk in and take them). The homeworks are more or less his practice problems with different numbers or the problems from the supplemental notes he provides on Sakai.
Awesome guy, he is fun and makes it clear and understandable. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and is passionate. He also is a good lecturer and professor which seems to be rare.
Gabriel is retiring following the Fall '25 semester. Unfortunate for the Econ department; he is one of the most knowledgeable and caring profs I have had at Loyola. His classes were not overly challenging yet I still learned quite a lot. Wish him all the best in whatever he does next.
Professor Gabriel is an amazing professor! His labor econ class consists of 3 homeworks and 3 exams (all spaced out evenly throughout the semester. He gives note packets and practice problems for the end of every week (it is soooo helpful). You have to go to class to understand the graphs and small details, but so manageable!
