He's a good and KNOWLEDABLE professor (he's a real MD, so what do you expect?). However, don't expect an easy meal in his class. Almost half of the class dropped by the end of the semester (for my AP2 class). He's quite lazy though, always late posting the test reviews online and NEVER allows you to keep the tests for reviewing later.
If you really want to learn, take this prof. He really prepares you for medical field. Has a lot of interesting stories about his patients. And his tests are not that hard either. Read the text and you'll get good grade!
He is an interesting teach. Very helpful and gives reviews. The class is hard itself so there is still a lot of work but he does not make it hard on you. I feel like I learned a lot.
This professor is very clear in his lectures and a fair grader. He posts helpful test reviews online; though sometimes at the last minute. His exams can be pretty tough & include multiple essay questions, but as long as you study the book and Powerpoint slides, you'll pass easily!
Dr. Garcia is a WONDERFUL teacher, he is very undertanding and helpful. You do have to work in this class though...what A & P class isn't work? Overall, read everything, memorize everything he tells you to, and you HAVE to spend alot of time studying.
DR.GARCIA IS BY FAR THE MOST AMAZING TEACHER AT HCC!!! HE IS THE SMARTEST PROFESSOR TEACHING AND HAS FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE OF THE MEDICAL FIELD. HE RELATES EVERYTHING TO REAL LIFE AND FOR NURSING MAJORS THIS IS VERY HELPFUL!!! IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IS NURSING SCHOOL TAKE HIM FOR A/P 1&2!!! YES THE CLASS IS HARD BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE...
love this man! he made a&p1 understandable and bearable! Of course you have to study hard in this class. He do a test review with the whole class a day before the test. He will tell you in his lectures whats going to be covered in the test. Lab tests were harder since you have to remember and memorize lots of parts. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS!!!!
Great professor. Really teaches the material and is always easy to talk to.
Pay attention in class, and take notes when he says Short Answer or Essay Qts. He's very knowledgeable, all Science majors MUST take him. I enjoyed his class immensely, and his notes are enough; no book required. His tests are as per his reviews, and come straight from his notes. He's very pleasant, interesting & easy on the eyes. Loved him!
The Best A&P Prof. EVER! I took him for Spring & Summer, and enjoyed both the classes. He's very understanding, and knows his stuff REALLY well. The best thing about him--apart from his cute looks--is that he's an MD. I wish I could take him for all my Bio classes. All those who want to learn, take him. Work hard, & u'll earn an A :)
i took his base on rate my professor rating and i have regret it every since. His class is good for those students who are going to med school, but not for those students that are going to school for nursing. if you take his class you will have to take just him and not another class or hold down a full time job.He is very nice through!
I have to disagree with the person who states that nursing students should not take him. He is the best. Review your notes and listen to his lectures and you'll do great. He'll even tell you what your short answers will be if your paying attention. I loved his class, it was fun and interesting. I highly recommend to anyone who requires course.
Probably the best professor I've ever had. Unintentionally converted me from a pre-pharm to a pre-med. Study hard, come to class and participate and you should make an "A". But the key: be involved in the learning process. Ask questions if you do not understand something. All around: NOT easy, but genuinely cares about students learning.
Dr. Garcia is probably the best biology professor I have ever had!A&P is a hard subject BUT Garcia makes learning easier & will slow down if you don't understand. The online lab was VERY HELPFUL!!As long as you listen & study, you'll get the material.Garcia even gives you some of the answers on the test during his lectures!Plus he's very goodlooking
Talk too fast, and always assummed his student is already in medical field. As for lab he always use most of the time for lecture and only little time for lab. I personally did not learn anything from him. I learned by reading the book myself. Overall, he's not a helpful professor at all.
Dr. Garcia is an awesome professor. He is intelligent and interesting in his lectures. I never wanted to miss a class. The course content is difficult, but he teaches in a way that you can understand. He also gives you all the information that is on the exam. Definately worth taking for anyone going into the medical field. And he is definately hot!
oh man it's a hard class not because of the teacher but just the subject itself is hard. But he makes it a little bit mor eunderstanding, and plus he's not bad to look out for 3 hours either!
I definetly thought I would never make it through A&P but Mr. Garcia is very helpful... Im passing his class with a B; but dont think I didnt have to work for it. He helps you remember the information and understand it clearly even though your there for so long but just like someone else said it's not bad starring at him for three hours :)
Extremely helpful! I loved his class. He teaches in a fashion that everyone should understand. I highly recommend him if you are going into the medical field.
This is my first week in his class and I have honestly been looking for another class to switch too! he seems to think we are already doctors I guess. He talks to us like we are, despite students constantly telling him they are lost. He is way too fast, way to complex and his expectations way too high. I am totally lost and I am a 4.0 student.
As I read over the ratings left by past students all I can think is he MUST have really changed then since they all had him, because he is beyond hard- his expectations are so high that no one can even grasp what is going on- and he is so super arrogant about his expectations! our entire class is LOST and no one is doing good or can keep up w/ him
Very good professor. I loved his class and wish that he taught micro. You must study and not just scan through the book.
I don't how people are failing Dr. Garcia class. He gives you a plethora of text information, study guides, online websites, and more. In A&P, you have to "study" not just skim the pages in the book.
awesome teacher. gives outlines online, study guides and explains thoroughly. every test gets harder, so study study study! it pays off!
Took Dr. Garcia over a mini summer semester for A&PII. Hands down the best teacher I've ever had. I can say this w/confidence b/c I had a bachelor's before his class and I am now working on a second degree BSN. He's tough, but he will prepare you for future schooling whether(med school or nursing) and he requires you to become the best you can be!
Awesome Professor! The subject itself is extremely difficult. So for all ya'll trying to pass this class with an "easy A", it's not gonna happen! Not only do you have to STUDY (not just glance)the book, also his notes, powerpoints, and quizzez because that's the only way you will pass with a good grade. He's a great proffesor. (and good looking)
Very good. Yes you have to study for his class but explains REALLY GOOD. IF you study hard you will get a good grade on the test. 30% of his test is short answer but he tells you prompts before the test.
I took A&P 1 with Dr. Garcia. He's a real MD. He teaches very good and he is very nice and took the time to go over and over things when people didn't understand them. He is pretty easy and easy to understand. You do have to study though! He doesn't just hand you an A. He's aslo super super HOTT!!! Kept my attention no matter what!
Extremely hard professor. He speaks like if you should already know the material. Really educated but not worth taking if you havent had any biology before hand. Im sure you can get an easier professor! His class is not fun so I personally didnt learn a thing. Not interesting plus he moves fast in his lectures!
he is awesome, at the same time very difficult, he rarely curve so always do your best, but at the end of the day he is a very good teacher and if you muake it you will have no problem on the hesi or other things that require A&P
Pablo Garcia is a so-so professor . A few annoying things about his class are that he doesn't explain concepts clearly . He has verbal habits and idiosyncrasies that distract from understanding his lecture .He talks to fast and vaguely over alot of topics covered in exams, and has the bad habit of referring to objects of the lecture as "this guy"
(cont'd) so don't even bother taking notes. he also acts as though students are already in med school ,constantly contradicting himself by prefacing every statement with "I don't expect you guys to be clinicians " . He also has a bad attitude .Very snarky and arrogant (perhaps a facade for some insecurity ).Enjoys stumping students. Inconsistent.
This professor considers himself to be mr.technology ,but never responds to students' emails. He helps Mcgraw Hill formulate Connect quizzes ,and Connect is useless .It doesn't measure how much you know ,but how fast you can find answers to the questions. Also, pablo's looks are overrated .He's average ,NOT HOT.drinks diet coke every single day.
Super educated teacher who knows his stuff, but this is a class that you just really need to study hard in to make an A. He makes you study from his slides and the text because the slides are somewhat different from book. Connect quizzes are useless until you take the exit exam. Boring class, boring teacher, doesn't curve until the end.
I was very interested in the subject, and it is obvious hat he is very knowledgeable in the subject. This class def requires more than 5 hours of study time a week. He is very passionate about apple products; don't take him if you are a hardcore Windows fan.
If you are planning to enter medical school... you must to read and be prepared for class. It is easy to rate a professor when you did not approve a class or get a C because you wait until the last minute to cover everything. I got a B and I really like the way he explains everything. I highly recommend him. He is helpful if you really care. :)
Great for Medical School and Hot!
This is the best Biology teacher I have ever taken! This class is not easy you have to work for your grade but its worth it. I learned more from him in a 5 weeks session then I ever did in a fall semester at the University of Houston.
Great for Medical School. One of the best professor of science from HCCS. I highly recommend him.
I had this professor for A&P I & II, and he is a great teacher. You have to study, complete the review and you'll do fine. He is very helpful with labs. He also makes himself available via email or even webcasts. I recommend this professor!
I retook A & P 1 this summer in a 5 week session. Very intense! This class requires a lot of studying even in a regular semester, but Dr. Garcia is more than helpful and knowledgable about what you need to know. I learned a ton and aced the HESI exam. Extra points for being easy on the eyes.
Take him if you actually want to learn and aren't just looking for an easy A. His lectures have helped me a lot in nursing school - classmates who opted for easier professors are lost.
I had Dr. Garcia for Anatomy II - I'm at UTHSC nursing now and just wanted to write in to say thanks. The subject matter can be hard, but he makes it as clear and relevant as possible. If he had taught less, he would not be doing you any favors if you wanted to continue in the medical professions.
Dr. Garcia is an amazing professor. He is by far the best instructor I've come across. He's experienced and knows exactly what he's talking about. I took his A&P II class and it was hard. But it was worth it. Come on, you're going to have to study somewhere down the line. But if you make the effort to learn, you won't be disappointed with his class
Dr Garcia is very knowledgeable, he is very helpful. if you wanna high score, you need to study hard. you will get a lot of knowledge, which would be useful in the future career. bluedoor is very good tool, which let u save lots of money on text book and lab material. Very good and professional teacher!
He is the best teacher i have ever came across, he explains the materials very well and makes it easy to understand, he is very helpful and always available and he's knowledgable, he cares about the students getting the knowledge. It's not an easy 'A' class you really need to work hard to get a good grade.
I took Dr. Garcia for A&P 2 and I loved his class. He explains everything over and over until you get it. Very knowledgeable. Great class and professor. I went to class everyday and got an A.
Very clear. Gives medical examination scenarios. Helpful if needed. i think he helps those who help themselves, or at least meet him most of the way.
Dr. Garcia is a very intelligent professor with much experience; I recommend him. The class is difficult; much material is covered for each test but everything. I never bought a textbook, just used Bluedoor online. Each class period was 3 hours long; there weren't any experiments. The class started full and ended with 9 students. Good Luck!
Hands down THE BEST ANATOMY PROFESSOR I'VE HAD! For an 8 week course and with so much information to cover, I was able to grasp and understand the concepts of each chapter more clearly than I ever have in a regular semester time frame. Anatomy is already hard on it's own, but with a great professor who went to Med school, he knows his stuff!
This gentleman is by far the best A&P professor in HCC if you are seeking for challege. I took him for both A&P 1 and 2 this past spring and summer semesters. He's very respectful and is willing to help anyone that takes the time to just ask. The tests consist of a 3 short answer portion and 70 multiple choice. You get what you pay for, for sure.
PLEASE, DO NOT SKIP this professor up. Truly a very good professor who grades fair! But obviously if you don't work, you fail... (duh) 1. Pay attention to ANYTHING he writes on the board! 2. Go over the lectures online! 3. Study groups help, but even if you don't you'll be ok. 4. REVIEW the Exam Review he gives you! 5. Try to study in groups.
Excellent professor, extremely knowledgeable, hard but rewarding class. LOTS of memorization and study time needed. Occasional pop quizzes in lab. Exam essays from repeated topics & drawings. Open lab on Fri. helped. Don't take a heavy course load while taking his class; overwhelming towards the end. Book not needed, help from Wiki/Google.
Professor Garcia is the best teacher I have got at HCC. He is very talented, knowledgeable, but very hard in testing. His explanations are excellent but his exams are the hardest. Take him if you want to learn. But if you care about your grade, don't dare. I had to work extra hard but is ended up with a B. He gave me a B in lab while I had 89.34%.
If he said in the lecture, it will be on the test. Dr. Garcia makes sure you earn your grade, while doing his part as well. I really believed that I wouldn't be able to memorize all that was required of me, but he made it simple. DO NOT SLEEP IN HIS CLASS. Study hard and take notes. The things that he says help even if you might find them boring.
He was a great teacher and made sure you UNDERSTOOD what you were doing. If you are looking for an EASY A, maybe dont have him as a first choice, but if youre looking to leave the class understanding the material to continue to other medical classes, TAKE HIM. I ended with an A, but I had to work for it. I would take him again.
Read the video
Great instructor. You will LEARN not just memorize. He offers tons of resources (slides, online notes, ect). If you use apply yourself you will do great. Also GO TO CLASS it makes a difference. I got an A and I still remember the maternal.
If you didnt take General Biol, dont even think about it. Very difficult because he expects you to know most of it all ready.
This class is the hardest one I've had to take yet and I'm a junior already. The lab exams aren't multiple choice, all short answers (not really short, must be detailed). I wouldn't take this unless you already know your stuff.
This teacher is very difficult. If you dont have the passion to know this, dont do it. He expects you to memorize about 8 chapters for each exam. He also only grades exams, no assignments.
Very difficult professor unless you're great at memorizing everything within a short period of time.
Taking A&P I online proved to be very difficult. There is alot to learn and memorize. Dr. Garcias lectures made the textbook come to life. Video lectures were provided with each chapter and they were very helpful. His exams are difficult but you are given all the tools needed to pass. It is clear, he wants to see his students succeed.
watch the screencast for exams. exams are hard. no practice exam. 4 exams to drop the lowest one. should use this right to drop ( not skip) your exam4 (neural system) coz it's the hardest test. finish all quizzes&assignments, he'll give u full credits. he's organized! DONT TAKE if u have other heavy class or have weak general BIOL background!
2exams,1final exam. No drop any exam. given a blank paper & need to fill up everything. Lab Assignment just 25points (not25%).3 group assignment (with purpose practice-100 points).Test heavy. Not an easy A . 1 credit class but need 100% your effort. notice questions in a group assignment, some of them will be on exams. no homework for extra credits
He is tough, organized and his delivery is excellent. You may get overwhelmed if you do not study regularly. He is the best. No easy A, you have to earn it. I did not take general biology but I made an A. Study everything he gives you and the screen cast. He tells you exam questions in class so listen. Amazing lectures. I appreciate him more now.
I would never ever take this professor again! Arrogant, and expects you be an expert! if you want to fail take him
His exams are very hard (fill in the answer) this class is material heavy you WILL work for your grade. he does come off as "arrogant" but he will answer questions, just show up to class, do the online lab modules and you will pass. he gives full credit just for doing it the online lab modules and the online quizzes.
Took his class for in spring for APlab and his course was fair. The course is material heavy to get ready to study! he does not give any test reviews but hints at what will be on the exams throughout his lecture. He does come out as rude and uses words like "obviously" but he is very smart and knows his material, will always answer questions.
Dr. Garcia is the best professor. He really knows what he is teaching. Everything he says on the classroom is important and the best of it all is that he has all the lectures recorded also on Canvas. If i miss something taking notes you can just see the videos on Canvas to clear any doubts. I took him in summer (4 weeks) and got an A. It is possib.
For his online class this professor makes you take an exam with a lockdown browser with a camera. You must take the final exam in person. His reviews are concept and terms. There is a bonus for every exam if you get it right you get 10 points. There are 1 quiz for each chapter. There is a total of five exams in all. He drops the lowest grade exam.
Dr. Garcia is the best prof that I have ever taken in HCC. He gives great lectures and also they are recorded in canvas if you have any questions or did not take notes. I took him in person on summer A&P1 and online for A&P2 lab and lecture. Of course the subject is hard you need to study a lot but he cares and make it so fun and easy. Take him !!!
Very knowledgeable professor . am taking A&p 2 also with him.
I took him for AP1 and AP2, I got an A in both classes. He is a good teacher who actually cares. If you TRY you'll reap benefits. He is very kind and knows his material. He posts recorded lectures & free textbook. For online he does conferences and reaches out. Everything you want in a prof. If you explain your situation he will try to work with u
I've made straight A's all year up until I took this class. I barely passed with a C+. I'm usually pretty good with science, even passed my A&P lab with an A. He is a very monotone professor, his power point lectures are him basically reading the textbook. Lots of quizzes and no final exam review. No chance for extra credit either.
I worked for my grade, but def learned. If u going into Health, take him. He'll teach u wat u 2 need 2 know pointblank. A&P is hard, u gotta put the work in. 7hr/ week, just for this class. 10pt bonus on test, 4 test 50quest MC. Provides test reviews and so much resources, like too much. He wants u to succeed! Has optional fri night lecs. TAKE HIM!
I am currently a nursing student, I still refer back to professor garcia's notes. Pathophysiology is so much easier to handle bc this prof really sets the foundation of knowing the basics. You will have to try, but it is worth it! Would take his class over and over, could not recommend him more!
Hes very monotone and specks with an advanced vocabulary which makes it difficult to understand him most of the time. He will definitely challenge you and I didnt need that extra stress in my life.
Great professor! he gives us so much extra resources and he is very straight forward. His test are based off of the textbook ,pretty straight forward questions . If you read and comprehend from the textbook it wont be hard to get a A . He is also very organized and replies to emails fast . If you really want to learn and pass take this class !!
the test is 80% of your grade, so if you don't good on test you're not going to do well in the class. There was a lot of reading, chapters are long, his lectures do help although. he can be very monotone and he talks very fast as well. its hard, I barely had time to read so that's why I got a C. He does provide lots of outside study resources.
I had him as a teacher 15 years ago... I now hold 2 PhD's, he was one of the best professors I have ever had!
Took him both Lecture and Lab for A&PI and am about to take him for A&P II again. He's nice, supportive, organized, and straightforward. Although he goes through his lecture very fast, he teaches the materials to an extent that you can understand them in the real context. Pay attention to what he emphasizes in classes, it should be on exams then.
If you've been out of school for a while like i have, i don't recommend this course. He doesnt take that into consideration & the tests are more about his lectures than the actual online book (his lectures are mon-thur the full 2hrs and 15 min). Lots of information, if you take this course I suggest you only take this 1 and not 2 at a time.
Definitely take him if you want to go to medical school. He teaches you the way he learned in medical school, and he's a visual learner, so I loved having him as a teacher. Definitely don't take him for the summer if it is your first time taking this class. It is a lot of material to learn.
I've taken Dr. Garcia for Gen Bio., AP1 Lecture/Lab, AP 2 Lecture & I'm currently enrolled in his AP 2 Lab. Dr. Garcia is good at what he does! He breaks anything down loves questions & participation. Answers emails quickly! His grading is straight forward. Will review literally everything he test on just pay attention and ask questions if unsure.
If you have questions he'd answer them in depth and make sure you understand. It's just a lot of material and he does provide A LOT of study materials for the chapters. I'd take him again since in these courses you need to make sure you know a lot of material and he teaches them in detail. Better to take in person than online for hands on learning.
Professor is outstanding. Very clear at what he wants and is expected of the class. He is knowledgeable about his material, and he follows the schedule he posted on the syllabus, so you know when a test or quiz is coming up. He's cool and is a competent professor that actually responds to your emails. One con is he talks in a monotone voice.
Dr. Garcia loves to teach and loves questions. He truly cares that you understand the context. A&P 1 and 2 are tough courses. He goes over a lot of material but he ensures you're fully aware of what to expect in his exams. He provides lecture videos and additional content to ensure you understand the material.
He has a monotone voice, and he sighs most of the class lecture (almost as if he did not want to be there). He answers some emails and ignores others. His lectures and exams are heavy (almost like medical exams). Having an "A" in this class in only doable if this is the only class you're taking. (Do not take this class with other science classes).
Doesn't allow makeup work read syllabus carefully. :(
Straightforward. Lab reports, post-lab quizzes, and a few clinical correlations. Gives plenty of supplemental resources. Amazing effort on his part in providing organized charts and PDFs!!!! Highly recommend his lecture and lab together! I'm signed up for his A&P2!! Monotoned but very clear explanations! Loves questions and when you participate!
The lectures are packed with info, but Dr. Garcia provides clear lectures and detailed answers to questions. Lowest exam grade dropped. To pass: Study with provided Quizlet flashcards, use study guide material, extra credit questions are mentioned in lecture, practice with "Quiz Yourself" quizzes, and mark info on notes when told it's important.
Professor Garcia is a great teacher. Anatomy is hard but he gives lectures very clearly and assignments are very organized (and not that much hw). I would encourage everyone thinking about taking bio 2103 to take Professor Garcia. Assignments consist of small quizzes 10 questions about the chapter he is teaching which are easy to complete.
I was weary because this course was offered online but Dr. Garcia's lectures and modules made learning very effective. He is very organized, detailed, and provides many study resources. He offers active learning assignments during scheduled lectures for participation points. I would take this professor again!
Doctor Garcia is a great professor. His lectures are very informative, however they can be heavy because it is lots of information so be ready to read. As long as you read and study you will pass.
He's a very nice & caring prof and wants the best for his students. I wish I could've taken him in person bc his lectures were kind of monotone and hard to focus on. Attend class bc he does random Kahoots for partial. Study the reviews and quizzes and exams will be easy. Watch out for departmental exam, very different from his exams and no review.
First of the summer semester I took him was cut a week short due to Hurricane Beryl, however he was understanding and let us have a study aid for the first exam. Professor Garcia is very organized and clear of what is expected of one during his class. A&P 1 Is a difficult class so I believe regardless of the professor you have to work hard to pass.
If you are going to take Biology, I recommend this professor, he explains his classes well and provides a lot of help to the students. At the end it gives you a work guide on which the exam is based and if you accidentally took a practice exam it gives you the opportunity to do it again.
Dr Garcia was amazing at explaining things and gives you plenty of resources. He covers a lot of information in his lectures but he has a great way of teaching and I enjoyed him this semester. Even though I struggled with exams. He gave me all of the information I needed to Pass... Hope I can take him again in the future
He's very knowledgable but he is the most MONOTONE teacher I have ever met. It is so hard to learn when he sounds like he doesn't care the entire lecture. You take 4 exams and he drops your lowest. Do well on the first 2 exams trust me! The 3rd exam is the most difficult regarding muscles. I'd advise to get that one dropped. Online attendance req
Took this class expecting the worst! Ended up with a very amazing professor! The class focuses more on the tests, however there are exit quizzes, (no lockdown) that really help your grade when needed. He provides study guides with an overview of what the tests will go over and they're very accurate! Pay attention! He highlights what he will ask!
His lectures were very clear and understandable, as were his study outlines. He tells you exactly what's going to be on each exam, sneaks extra credit into them, and drops the lowest exam grade.
4 exams,Heavy review materials like quizlet. Recorded lectures, barely homework/group work. Khaoot, & class review before all exam
Professor Garcia's BIOL2301 class is challenging but rewarding. His lectures are packed with info, but he presents the material clearly. To succeed, attend class, use the provided study tools like Quizlet, and leverage unstuck ai for additional prep. It's a tough course, but doable with diligence.
This professor is fantastic! He provides detailed instructions and assigns a manageable number of tasks. Each module includes case studies, making the class very engaging. His lectures are spot on, although his monotone voice might challenge some students' focus. Thankfully, he offers excellent learning resources to keep everyone involved.
He was very caring, but the lecture was difficult since his voice is very monotonous. I struggled to stay awake during the class. The quizlets given didn't help on the exams. You will need to study a lot. If you can stay awake during the lecture, he explains a lot of what is on the exams.
Mr. Garcia is a very reasonable teacher for this course. His exams are pretty strait forward and you will get an A on them if you study his slides and outlines. I am taking him this summer and he is by far better than the other lecture professors. If you can get into his class, do it!!
Textbook is free. Lecture heavy course but the lectures are quite good and they grab your attention. If you don't pay attention this class will be hard, if you pay attention you should be good. He comes off as strict at times, but he seems to care about his student's success. He seems to want to help other's learn. Solid professor.
Honestly, if you are a student who doesn't like to study, this class is not for you. This class is very challenging, but if you are going into the health field, it is what it is. For me, he is a good teacher and explains things well.
Challenging course, but if you apply yourself, you will learn a lot. Honestly, not the most engaging lectures, and exams go into a bit more detail than is covered in lecture, so you will need to read the textbook to truly grasp the material and do well on exams. Overall, Dr. Garcia provides numerous learning resources and wants students to succeed.
