hes young, great lecture, gets into it. test is multi choice with identify essays. have to write a few one page reports. final not cumulative. take him
Bounces around a lot, hard to follow. Test's are hard, grades extremely hard on essays and book reviews.
Has a great sense of humor! You can tell straightoff hes pretty knowledgeable about history. Itll be like a journey with him going back before civil war - good times! 2 test, 4 essays, and thats it! Recommended!
HE'S A VERY COOL PERSON. GREAT PERSONALITY, HANDSOME. THE WAY OF INSTRUCTING THE CLASS IS VERY CLEAR, AND HE'S VERY, VERY SMART. HE REALY KNOWS WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.
He does bounce aroung a lot...but it helps keep your attention. He's enthusiastic about what he is teaching. His excitment helps you pay attention and sparks interest in historical events. If your budget is tight take this class-you don't need the book (his lectures are good).
Did not require textbook, which is good (cheap) but bad (you have to listen to every word he says!). He really cares about history and expects you to as well.
cute teacher, gives a lot of assignments which can be very helpful or harmful. energetic which made it easie to listen to the lecture. i like him!

A very student friendly professor. I actually mistook him for a student when I first saw him walk in. Really knows his stuff and strongly encourages student involvement in lecture. I never was into history much, but he made it a lot easier.
I took him for History 11 last year, and had to take him when I saw he taught History 12 as well. He's so passionate about his teachings, and the work he assigns isn't too bad. I would recommend him to everyone!
How hot is he?! He's gorgeous!! Very helpful and clear in what he expects. I thought his mid-term was extremely tough, but the final was a breeze. I loved his class. He knows his stuff!!
SOOO boring...you can tell he is passionate about history but he walks back and forth and back and forth. He knows his**** tho. He always wears khaki colors though..kinda odd.
Walks and stalk the front of the classroom with a commanding voice that sounds like a mature Will Farrell. Uses hand gestures and body language a lot and sometime goes off track due to his vast knowledge. Very friendly and very smart.
I'll be honest I slack off and didn't do so hot because I didn't like the subject. As far as Mr.Gilmore goes, he is an excellent instructor.
great professor, not boring, keeps you interested in his lectures, expects a lot from his students but thats a good thing, unlike other professors here
Very smart and a great teacher. Lot of essays, like 5 summaries, 3 reactions paper, 1 essay exam, lot of little extra credits essay (easy), and 2 exam, exam cover stuff he talks about in class, not much from book. You have to really pay attention in class and do the essays to pass. If you know and like history, it is a great class to take.
He is very interesting and interested in what he is teaching
Excellent teacher. Very passionate about history, and absolutely loves to teach the subject. There are quite a few essays to write, but they're pretty easy, except for the very difficult midterm. The final was easy, though. Highly recommended.
Great teacher! He has a lot of passion and excitment for history. He is helpful and always willing to help. He is very interesting to talk to. He is also fun, energetic and smart.
Very knowledgeable & passionate about what he teaches. Easy to understand and easy to listen to. He is what every teacher ought to aspire to be. Moderate to easy grader, but requires a lot of short essays.
HE IS A GREAT GUY. EXPECT TO READ AND DO HOMEWORK TO GET A GOOD GRADE, A OR B. MAKE TIME ASIDE FOR THIS CLASS. GREAT CLASS. WANTS WRITTEN PAPERS. IF YOU TRY AND PASS YOU WILL LEARN ALOT. ALWAYS WILLIN GOT HELP AT HIS OFFICE HOURS.
He is absolutely adorable. I love this class. He is fun, interesting, and smart. I highly recommend him. Lectures aren't boring and he's really handsome. Not a bad incentive for going to class.
Very passionate professor. He makes history worth learning. His lectures are never boring. I suggest students not fail the first exam, if you do, it will screw up your grade. Even though I got an c in his class, I learned so much. The greatest history professor at FCC. I'll say this again, you will never be bored when he is lecturing.
Great teacher one of the best at Fresno City...loves what he does and it shows in his lectures. Oh side note he is handsome for a older man!
Excellent lecturer, he has a passion for history and he doesn't make it boring. Most of the grade is test based, but he offers a take essays in lieu of some tests, and grades essays fairly easily if you are into writing at all.
Never a dull moment as his boundless energy kept the lectures interesting and entertaining. He has a passion for history and it shines through. Very helpful, making himself available to answer questions. And the other comments don't lie - he's incredibly handsome. ;)
Mr. Gilmore will teach U.S. history like no one else does. It makes for good learning. He definitely has a passion for history and loves teaching it. He HATES when people come in late and he won't let you leave even one second early. But his lectures are always entertaining and he is a good, understanding guy who cares about his students.
Exciting, engaging, and passionate about history. Attendance is a must but at least he makes it fun. The tests can be difficult but he gives plenty of help and even some extra credit.
I hated history until I took Gilmore's class. He is definately one of the best instructors at FCC. He was always willing to help, and lets you rewrite papers for a better score. He'll make ya like history... Trust me! Just don't be late... cause he HATES it!! Oh yeah... HE'S A HOTTIE!!!
He rocks, very helpful lectures are hardly ever boring, takes great interest in his students also very entertaining will go on side quests and talk about how something he just went over or about to go over pertains to today.
Great professor. Best at Fresno City. Loves his subject, cares about his students and makes the class interesting. Definetely go to class and enjoy his lectures.
very passionate
Possibly the best profesor at Fresno City College. Makes history intresting and tells it like it was and not like were told
One of my all-time favorite instructors - I took this class years ago, and still think about him. I learned a whole lot about life, as well as about history. Made a boring subject interesting. Tells the other side of commonly-told history. A great guy. DO NOT TALK IN CLASS or be late!
Very good teacher. Class was easy. You don't even really need the book. I didn't even have the book and I got a B. Couldn't easily gotten an A if I wouldn't have slack so much. Take him
Not to sound like an echo, but Mr. Gilmore will give you loads of passion, untold truth, and plenty of opportunities to chime in. You WILL enjoy history! I never thought I would look forward to a History class before! Paper writing is essential but all he asks for is your opinion, it's not hard if you give it even an ounce of honest effort!
Mr. Gilmore is awesome. Class is ok if you study and stay on task.Let's you rewrite your papers for a better score! Yes! he is gorgeous......I had to come to class everyday ;)
Great Teacher! fun class, never bought or looked at the book, and got an A. Go to his office hours, always has hilarious stories to tell. Recommended.
This professor is amazing! Even with only 4 hours of sleep, I always paid attention! His lectures are funny and engaging. Writing essays is an integral part of succeeding in the class, but he allows re-writes. Although Gilmore clearly leans to the left, he respects all opinions. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Not a good Teacher DO NOT TAKE him!!!! Very opinionated only teaches his opinion on issues. Very moody!! Lectures are irrelevant to the test. Gets off topic a lot and falls behind! DO NOT TAKE!!
there are no bad words that can be said about gilmore. he is aahhhhhhmazing. he opens your eyes to so many things and makes you think about things differently. his reading is very light, just one book and it was an incredible book. his lectures are hilarious and always entertaining. PLUS he's so incredibly good looking ;)
Great educator & teacher. He allows the student to have revelant discussion with him during lecture.Very interesting stories, teaches with passion,& he won't allow students to sit in class and disrupt everyone.Tests aren't simple, if you participate, study, you will have a great time learning about history & get a good grade for being there.
HORRIBLE very Opinionated does not care about his students...I still got an A but he is not smart and incompetent. He make ignorant rude remarks. He loves that he has tenure.
All these people who are giving him good ratings are only doing so because he's "hot" and so passionate about history.but so what? what's most important is that you do not take him ,tests are hard, grades hard, he's anal, makes rude remarks, seriously if you want devote ALL your time and effort into this class then be my guest, otherwise DO NOT TAKE
Very funny, (maybe too much). yes very opinionated but who isnt? its not like hes forcing it down our throats. he gives us his perspective but leaves it open to our own interpretation. hard tests if you dont attend or read. so all in all: good but hard. worth the effort if thats your interest.
Mr. Gilmore is one of the hottest professors I have ever met. He is so intelligent and tells history like no one. He brings you in with his great charisma and strong tone of voice. I have never been so intersted in history until I met him, his amazing. take him please!!! I only missed one day of class because he makes history a fun subject.
Gilmore is the Man, He is a great teacher and is really excited about history all the time!! His class is kinda hard but it is mainly because i missed half of the classes, still got a good grade, but essays on books are really really important, good teacher!!
Uh, anyone who says not to take gilmore is an idiot. He is hands down the best teacher I've ever had & the best at city college. He really encourages insightful discussion & critical thinking. He asks MORE then the "easy" teachers, but if you show up his class is definitley not hard. Do yourself a favor, and talk Gilmore! He is fantastic.
Get over his good looks already ...what are we in 9th grade? i didn't care for him.
I'm in love with this guy! good teacher too lol. I recommend him, makes class interesting. Ya all he does is lecture, but he gives character to it... very handsome
He's a great teacher, very excited to teach. Wants to hear your opinions, very open minded. He will make you love history. Very Helpful, you can choose to take multiple choice tests or an essay test. He makes the tests fairly easy. You do have to read two books in his class and write papers on them, but they're interesting. Plus he's a Hottieee!!
One of the greatest teachers I have ever had. Love to hear him talk. Amazing to listen too. A must take teacher.
he's an ok teacher. i fell asleep a few times. skipped some lectures and felt like i missed nothing special. he does straight lecture w/o direct powerpoint so you have be to a very good listener and READ THE BOOKS to do well on the test. for the final you can just memorize the past two test and it's a breeze :)
He's passionate about his beliefs. Believes in human rights and civil liberties. For the reaction papers, have argument/thesis and support them (evidence, examples). For the scantron tests, study the book and notes. For the essay tests, answer the prompt, use examples that he talks about in class. Always attend class.
If it wasnt for his good looks and nice looking hair i wouldnt even take his class! He is very jumpy when it comes to lectures and usually goes off topic.
Best teacher ever!!
Mr. Gilmore is extremely knowledgeable about the subject, he is a great lecturer and is always willing spend extra time with students to make sure they fully understand the concepts, in addition he makes you think about history in ways you've never thought about. I recommend everyone to take his class.
Gilmore is the man! He's cute, passionate, and very knowledgeable. This class was interesting, and I feel like I got a lot out of it. Not gonna lie, tests are challenging. Just show up engaged and proactive and you'll be fine!
An awesome teacher if I ever had one. He does tend to go off topic but when it's a history class it's good to get off topic to stay awake with. The stories all wind up back to where he left off as well as giving the class a great laugh. He's passionate about his beliefs and does not in any way try and make you choose his side of any topic
One of the best teachers you'll ever find. He goes off topic but its extremely interesting! Tests are hard you must read the book and attend class. Attendance is not mandatory but you should be there or else you'll be lost.
teacher is ok looking not that great. his test r hard!!! he requires you to read a lot n gives new chapters to read like every week. each chapter is lik 40 pages and dont leave 2-3 before class ends cause he will get upset and tell you to sit down. he doesnt let you leave until the very end even one minute before class ends he wont let you pack up.
He is well qualified teacher we have in Fresno City College. I never cared about history the way he teaches make you think about it Test are not hard if you studied well He really cares about his student he even give second chance to write people he want every student pass the class.we are in college it's time to take study serious so don't complai
Tests are HARD....always read the book b4 the test...
He's very informed about history. He has alot interesting stories and tries to have us relate to the material being taught. His tests are pretty difficult but if you pay attention to key points you will be okay. He's also really likes his coffee
Not only is Professor Gilmore one of the best teachers at Fresno City College, but he is also one of the easiest on the eyes. The end of the semester will be bittersweet for me. Great class, awesome teacher.
he is a cool teacher. and yes sometimes he is an a**. and the test are hard, even if u really study. dont get behind on the reading!!
Mr gilmore is awesome if you arent lazy and want an interesting and different approach to history then u will enjoy his class he is very refresinhg and you CAN actuallytalk and express yourself without fear of being crucified
gilmores a great teacher. he showed me a side of history no other teacher has ever showed me. his lectures are amazing if you think a lot about what he's saying. TAKE THIS TEACHER
He's so hard!!! I got yelled at in front of the whole class simply bc I wanted to use the restroom!!! All I did was quitly stood up and walk out WTF!? He's test and essays are extremely hard
Gilmore's class isn't difficult as long as you read and show up to lecture. He's very concise and interesting. Plus, he's incredibly good-looking. Only thing was he had a really delicate ego - I saw many a person berated for leaving class.
passed this class with a B+. never used book, just attend class. his test is basically on his lecture, so just pay attention and youll be fine. he has a great sense of humor and energy that makes you want to come to class. i highly recommend this teacher if you want to take a hist 12 class.
He is an amazing teacher. Very enuthsiastic of what he teaches. So it really helps you like his class never monotone. His test are easy all you do is you have to read is all. He is so cute! His cat is name Lucy that is so fine!
Great teacher, makes class fun! Seems easy although I have few classes left before the end of the short term semester.. Actually I'm in class atm.... Take his class your sure to love it!
Very Passionate about History and full of energy. Cracks jokes. Full of stories that tend to get off topic. He does get upset about coming in and out of the classroom, but with a class of 200 its understandable to eliminate distractions. The exams are mostly on his Lectures, so just pay attention and you ll be fine. Attendence was lenient
CRAZY MAN! GETS WAY TOO UPSET OVER GOING TO USE THE RESTROOM. NOT GOOD LOOKING AT ALL. HAIR IS SHAGGY NEEDS A HAIRCUT. PLUS CLASS IS BORING!! YAWN JUST WANT TO SLEEP IN THIS CLASS. SERIOUSLY, HE IS SO BORING DOES NOT TELL GOOD JOKES!! WAYY TO BIAS ON HIS HISTORY. I DONT CARE WHO U LIKE, JUST TEACH THE HISTORY. LAME CLASS.
he is good to look at but he can be a little unorgranized ad his assignments are all about reading and even if you read you better have a good understanding of what you are reading. this class is more comprehensive then just facts and dates. he is handsome to look at :)
ungoranized. passionate though but its all comprehensive so attend class. easy on the eyes though
The class is informative, and he is passionate about history. His lectures are easily understood. He makes you read the books and gives you a choice of either a 6 question test or a short paper, but that wasn?t so bad. He is fair minded and not a bit stuffy. He is a pretty cool guy; he makes the class enjoyable.
This guy is great!!! Loved his class because he makes it really easy and very interesting... I have not been tempted to fall asleep or skip this class... We have two essays to do and they are simple... He does grade them kind of hard but he gives you chances to improve the essay grades... Overall... A great professor... I highly recommend him!!!
do all the work and take down notes and youll do fine
Very enthusiastic about the subject.
Awesome
Super chill!
Great teacher. Passionate about the subject and pretty funny. Has study groups before test. I suggest write the essay instead of multiple choice.
Mr.Gilmore is a great history teacher to take. You will be interested in lecture.
Mr. Gilmore is great teacher, he is very enthusiastic about history. Grading is very clear. Short essays responses to assigned reading, you can turn them in a week late for one lower grade letter and he will drop your lowest grade on essays at the end of semester. Do study guides and go to the tutorial center if you want to do good on tests
Super enthusiastic about history which makes class a lot easier to get into and stay awake for. Definitely hate history, and passed this class with an A. GREAT TEACHER!
Best lecturer I have ever had.I doesn't hurt that he is hot. He has study groups prior to all exams and gives study guides. If you don't pass his class it your own fault
Professor was pretty cool, didn't have to use the hist textbook, but used the overthrow and the indispensable enemies one. It's a pretty good class, don't be really late, might get yelled at. Do the extra credit, really helps in the end. All in all decent class and decent teacher. Could do a lot worse.
Great class! Took me 2xs to pass, and he told the same stories and jokes (c'mon, can't think of some new material?, lolz). Passionate about history and upfront about his biases. Good use of power point and videos, but not many notes to help follow along with the lectures. Also, never finished them! Overall, a really nice and great teacher!
Extremely great guy! Very funny, engages with everybody while lecturing and overall making history enjoyable. If History is of little interest already, he will make more interesting for you. Would recommend him to anyone.
Gilmore is one of my favorite teachers and people of all time.He is intelligent, funny and expects the respect he gives you back. If you feel lost, he offers his office hours to counsel you. His lectures are dynamic and kept me awake & interested for the whole 3hrs! (short term class)Even if he was a toad, he'd still be an amazing teacher.
He's an alright teacher. His class is very boring but sometimes interesting. It's really hard to take notes. Trust me, everyone in the class agreed. And side note keep your opinions to your self because if he doesn't agree with you he'll get fumed. Happened to me 4 times. He accepts late homework and will let you redo a written exam.
I took me two times to pass him. Gilmore is good guy and good professor it just he lecture too fast and it is hard to keep with him during lectures while taking notes. But satisfly that passed his class year ago. In soft note he is a great history Professor.
Impossible to ignore. Has a large God complex. Extremely messy! Tied for weirdest person in Fresno. Allergic to women, or maybe it’s just me (he’s cute even when he’s sneezing all over you).
He not only installs a great level of interest of the subject in you but he is just an overall amazing guy that gets you to think. And that my friend is what matters most, the act of thinking, questioning things and etc. I loved this class. He's also easy on the eyes as well. Which doesn't hurt. Lol
One of the great professors I'll always remember. Super passionate about his subject, like a good professor should be. You don't have be genius to pass, just try and give a damn for 50 minutes out of your day and you'll do fine. Papers do require at least an inkling of original thought and he'll even help you with that if you can't manage.
He's really passionate about history. Takes it to the extreme he is strict about his class you can't even get up to use the bathroom. Lectures too fast and he doesn't go over it again. His class gets boring. I wouldn't recommend his class unless you're super interested in the subject history.
He is extremely passionate about history and the injustices that the working class had to put up with. He has a lot of knowledge and can answer questions easily on the fly. He can end up skipping some topics that are in the outlines so read up on those. Attend ETC to help with preparing for exams.
He's an awesome professor. He truly is interested in the subject and is very lively so you're always focused on him. Lectures were easy for me, take adequate notes, and GO TO ETC at least once every 2 weeks to review. I didn't really use my book, but did have to use the two books he assigned, did 2 papers, not that difficult. Attendance is a must.
Awesome professor. Truly motivated about what he lectures.Taking notes in class is a must. Come to class on time with undivided attention everyday AND NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES DURING CLASS! Highly recommend in going to ETC if it is available.
Hist 23-I personally didn't need the textbook but did need the novels on the side. Relies heavily on discussion agendas Hist30- No text just novels. Need them for the essays. all lecture so drink coffee is it is a long day for you. He is a all around amusing person and has a good personality. difficult if don't like essays
This teacher is the BEST history teach I have ever had! He is SO funny! He LOVES what he teaches and he is GOOD at it. Take him for any and all history courses if you can!
I would like to reassure the mature students in the audience: this is a legitimately interesting, intelligent and knowledgeable teacher. No he doesn't hate the USA he just teaches from the average working american's point of view instead of the heads of states which is a nice change and completes the historical picture we already have.
Mr. Gilmore's class is entertaining because he makes the lecture fun from how passionate he is on the topic. He genuinely cares about his student's education. Awesome class! Awesome teacher!
Gilmore is one of those teachers that can make you have an interest in history if you hadn't one before. He has strong morals that care more about what the student actually learns and can apply to daily life, than their GPA, and it comes out in his lectures. Because of this it is basically mandatory to attend lectures, and recommended to read.
He was a wonderful professor. Very insightful and passionate. He gave me an interest in history that I never thought I would have! I thoroughly enjoyed his class and had a huge crush on him the entire semester!
A dynamic teacher who can come off as biased. Mr. Gilmore doesnt say what he means, he leaves that up to you. If you're not interested in learning dont waste his time or yours.
Do all of the work even if it sucks. I did horrible on the tests but still did all the assignments and got a B. My friend did well on the tests but missed a paper and got a D. He is extremely passionate about racism! I loved it.
Great professor. He is more than willing to help you if you are having trouble. He is very passionate about history. He makes history interesting. If you show up to class, do the assignments, and take advantage of the extra credit, you'll do great.
Gilmore is a great historian and teacher but this is a warning beforehand, get ready to read. .... a lot. Quizes qnd tests challenging as well. Long lectures, can turn into a snooze fest. But if you like history and you want to learn history this is your guy. Also very enthusiastic while teaching and humorous.
He's an AWESOME professor!! Really loves his job and makes you want to pay attention. There's a lot of really good information he gives in his lectures. I would take him for every History class if I could.
I love Gilmore! he is the most kind hearted person. he really loves his job and you can tell through his lectures or speaking to him outside of class. the class will get tough if you don't write the papers, read the books or miss class frequently; you will get behind. as long as you're trying, come to class and do the work you will be okay :
He is a nice guy but hard grader and if you have NOT taken English 1A Then DOT NOT take class because you have papers to write lots of them! And your paper counts BIG time points and you cannot have hardly any mistakes or that grade will count against you. He is tough on grading but nice for being there for you but that wont make you pass.
He's a great teacher. but he HATES when people have their phones out during class. He gives extra credit here and there, TAKE THEM!! Trust me it'll be worth it in the end, that's one of the reasons why I reeved a B. overall he's cool and easy just pay attention and if you have him in the morning be prepared, he loves his coffee, he's wide awake :)
Best history professor at city college but he does expect you to put forth a college level effort. There are two books assigned for the course (super cheap): one will be assigned journal entries (one for each chapter) and the other will be a three page paper. Tests are easy and lectures will open your eyes unlike any other history course.
- Very strict about grades. - Gives quick and nice feedback. - Inspiring students and very helpful.
Paul Gilmore is the best teacher I have ever had! He makes history so interesting! I love his passionate teaching and great personality. Hes very helpful and hansom professor as well. Even his lecture bit difficult, I love his lecture!
Really into history, he is really passionate about history. Class is not that hard but if you do not do your assignments you will not pass.
he goes off topic a lot during his lectures so it kinda confuses me. he assigned a book for us to read and write 2 reports on it. a lot of writing assignments and personally he is a hard grader. if you are looking to pass the class without doing any work then don't take this class. you have to work for your grade.
Professor Gilmore brings up some interesting topics and is very passionate about history.
Professor Gilmore is passionate about history and his lectures reflect this. I've never been interested in the subject before and somehow it's all I think about now. He's that convincing! He's firm, funny and you will learn if you come to class. No chance of passing if you don't take good lecture notes or skip class though.
He goes really in depth with history and actually makes it interesting. He answers questions pretty clear or the best of his abilities and makes the class funny with his personal stories. He actually doesn't demand that much either, just three essays and the midterms are pretty easy as well.
He is really intelligent, he will have an answer to any question you have, even if it is off topic. He is really into his job, and helping his students out, a great professor.
Very nice teacher, obvious he's passionate about history. he does get sidetracked alot so we were behind most of the time. he cares about his students and notices when they're absent. he's a silly goofy guy that i enjoyed. 2 mandatory books readings, no textbook so notes are lectures. i wish i took him sooner
He was very cool guy but the class i hated. He is a tough grade with the essays, we were assigned 5 through out the semester. 2 test and that included the final. He took forever to give back our papers also, we had our grade up to date once in the semester. Class is super boring he just talks and talk and never stops talking
I enjoyed this class threw out the semester, lecture was long but hey its History he need to gives us as much information to know. Students who are saying that they didn't pass is because lack of homework or show up to class just to take the exams. He does give essays are they are long but he gives us time to choice the ones we like. Take him
I tooked his class i long time ago. I failed the first time his class. But when I took him the second time, I managed to do fine in the class. He is a tough grader on the papers. The great thing about this professor, he is passionated about his knowledge of history. He is a great professor
I really enjoyed taking this class. He takes a lot of time out of the course to add little stories about the different times and individuals that give a better feel for what things were like. His side reading book was interesting and I feel like you can get by without the main textbook if you watch CrashCourse videos and spend some time with SG's.
Prof Gilmore is funny and very passionate about History. He will explain in depth and make you feel interested. Attendance is crucial. Most of his exams were based on lecture. I would advise you to learn how to take notes on EVERYTHING he lectures about. Be an Audio Note Taker I never got the book, and I still passed. Work for your grade. :D
Gilmore is a cool professor to have. He plays videos before each class. He really tries to get his students into the lecture and answers questions along the way. There are 3 papers due within the semester but he drops the lowest grade so it definitely helps. Overall a super cool teacher (who talks really enthusiastically) Highly recommend.
I tried really hard in his class and could not understand it. The test are based on his lectures and the lectures are confusing. They are only pictures while he talks the whole time. He gets off topic all the time. Even the students next to me don't understand him. He is too scholarly, do not take him if history is not your major.
Gilmore is an amazing professor! You can tell he really loves history and you learn so much in his class, I would recommend him for sure! Attend the lectures and take good notes because they make good study guides, there's no surprises if you're paying attention
He is a really fun and cool guy. His lectures were full of cool information and I really learned a lot.
I do not like history, but I enjoyed this class. The work load isn't too bad, and if you pay attention in class and take good notes you can get by without the textbook. Gilmore is very passionate about history, which made the class interesting for me. When I needed help, he was available and willing. He's also not bad looking, which is a plus :)
Gilmore is by far my greatest instructor i have ever had! Despite the fact that it is a History class so of course lots of readings, but he makes everything fun to do. So inspirational. He tells you the REAL History. He motivates you to be a better person. what U will have to do is : FOCUS and take notes in the lectures, mainly 90% of his exams.
Great teacher, highly recommend him for history. He does a lot talking in his lectures so make sure to take good notes to study with, he gives a fair and good grading system, and be sure to study before the tests to do well. He gives reading assignments so getting the audio book for it can be helpful. Doing well in the beginning will help a lot.
Too much work and confusing
its confusing at times but gilmore is hilarious and he helps you understand better. He knows so muvh about the things he talks about. You can tell that hes well read.
Knows his history, but sucks at sticking to the point. Lectures are fun but he often goes off topic. Quizzes were hell (he never kept track) and did the same with tests. He graded fair but takes FOREVER to grade anything you turn into him. He's fun to talk to, and seems caring. EC assignments aren't worth it (like 3pts at the most)
in this class, we only have 2 exams - the midterm and final. no homework at all. he lectures the whole class period. he doesnt write anything on his powerpoints. its only pictures, so you really have to pay attention to his lectures to take good notes. he's very strict for essays. if you miss more than 15 classes, he'll drop your grade down by 1
Gilmore is very passionate about teaching. He makes history interesting compare to others. Just listen well and take good notes while he lectures i'm sure you'll do well on his quizzes. However, I didn't really enjoy doing his essays because those were very time consuming and I received only decent scores. His exams are pretty challenging as well.
So Gilmore does make you put a lot work in to earn the grade you want but he held study sessions a few times throughout the semester to make sure those who wanted to pass would. I HATE history but Gilmore made it all into one big, dramatic story which was easy to follow and more interesting than I expected. If you have to take history, take Gilmore
Easy quizzes, just make sure to study for his tests, a lot of questions on the test will be on past quizzes. His grading on your readings is what kills it for me with this teacher, if you dont agree with him on your essays, odds are you wont get an A paper. Its the only thing that kept me from an A. Hes very passionate about his history though
Professor Gilmore really makes you want to come early to class and stay late to talk to him. He cares deeply about what he teaches and he sincerely cares about you as a student. He really wants you to think and take everything you can out of his courses. He makes himself available anytime to all students. He is pumped up about teaching! A++++
Very nice/fun person but goes off topic A LOT. It makes it very difficult to follow along during lecture. Tests can be hard because you need to remember everything from every chapter. They're always going to be Ch. 1- whatever chapter you're on. There are 2 papers that are based of 2 different books you HAVE to read. Attendance is very important!
His lectures are amazing but can get intense. He's very passionate about what he teaches and you will never get bored.
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Gilmore is the best! He is a very generous grader, passionate about what he teaches, and is an all-around nice guy. He goes off topic occasionally and can come off as scattered during his lectures sometimes though. Would definitely recommend taking his class though. Super knowledgeable.
I took his History 12 class and it was a great experience. I didn't need to use the textbook. He really tries to make the material fun to learn. He doesn't sugar coat history so prepare for the brutal facts. He will sometimes go off subject but it's still great information. I highly recommend this professor.
It's all based off his lecture lol! He talks from start to end so don't expect to get many comments or questions in. He really knows and loves his history. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Gilmore is a really good teacher, he lectures a lot so you really have to pay attention to get good notes. Also he offers a lot of extra credit and ETC helps a lot. Also you'll be assigned two books to read over the semester and you'll write an essay for each of them.
Professor Gilmore is one of the best teachers Ive ever had. His passion for history and the way he cares about his students is second to none. His lectures are great and he usually shows interesting videos on YouTube in the few minutes before class starts. Theres a decent amount of reading, but his grading is fair and hes always willing to help
He does not stick to the syllabus. He is constantly behind in his lectures so the homework he has you do is not about what he is lecturing on. His lectures are based on his emotions and he pushes his political agenda through his lectures. His powerpoint are all pictures and you have to take notes based off of what he says only and he talks quickly.
Best history teacher! I've always hated history, but Gilmore makes lectures really interesting. There's no homework but you will have to write a few papers on a book he assigns. He's super understanding and gives you chances to bring your grade up. His powerpoint have very little to no words so you do have to show up and take good notes.
He is a very nice guy. His grading is very reasonable. But he requires good writings. This class is like the upgraded version of ENGL 1A. If you are bad at writing and take his class, then bad for you.
I had gilmores class for three hours so it was a pain he lectures past the time and he gives a 12 minute break .his class is easy if you study. study guides are LEGNTHY. Pop quizzes. He grades his papers very hard BUT he drops one of the three . he loves what he does which makes it a tad bit interesting but other than that his class is a big NO
Assigned a really interesting book. Funny guy. Kinda quirky. Woke enough to teach history in a way that doesn't make me want to bang my head against the desk. Doesn't tip toe around atrocities committed by Americans/our government/racism. The study guide's aren't helpful. ETC helps. If you're not paying attention to the lectures you will not pass.
Easy teacher, easy A. Very funny and lectures are very interesting.
He has quizzes that are only 1 question so if you do not get it right you get a zero on the quiz, and he never tells you when the quiz will be or what it will be on, also doesn't let you take quizzes if you weren't there. Hes very liberal and if you write anything he disagrees with he gives you a low score. Also study guide is useless for final.
Even if I could, I would SO not give him a chili pepper!
Professor Gilmore is one of the best professors I have ever taken ! I took him for the fall semester of 2019 for history 12 and now for the spring for history 30. His lectures are fun and he Interact a lot with all of his students. People say he grades tough but his grading is FAIR as long as you turn in something you will pass !
I normally love history but after about 2 weeks I couldnt do it anymore. If you have trouble writing papers like me then youre screwed. He told the class hed give a 0 if your paper had misspellings. He goes really fast in his lectures so if you zone out a bit youll probably miss something important.
I took this professor every chance I got when taking history, his lectures are great. They are not confusing and he makes class interesting, highly recommend taking him.
Had a really fun and eye-opening time in this class. I see some people saying he was tough with papers but I didn't experience that since most of the writing prompts were opinion based with this class so there wasn't a lot to get wrong or right. Highly recommend the prof and the class.
amazing teacher super helpful and willing to help you succeed in the class.
Okay... first and foremost, it is VERY lecture heavy. His class was BY FAR the longest I have ever spent on lectures (during this PANDEMIC)- and his instructions are like 5 pages long and VERY VERY VERY wordy. Do not take this class if you want to spend 30min just READING his lengthy instructions. Do not recommend to anyone.
I LOVE Professor Gilmore! I took his asynchronous class. He's anti-revisionist and white-washed history and tells American history like it really is. I learned more than I ever have in any history class. He's funny, kind, inspiring, and truly does care about students. The class is easy, just do the work and skim the reading.
I took Mr. Gilmore's Asynchronous class for the Spring semester. He's a really fun and cool teacher to have for history. He knows how to make history enjoyable and cares about his students passing. Whether online or in-person teaching, I DEFINITELY recommend this professor. Also, go to the ETC sessions with his tutor, it'll help you out a lot.
I took Professor Gilmore's class in spring 2021 and he was awesome made history fun, gives really good feed back. Would take it again.
Very passionate about his work! So easy to respect, and great organization on Canvas! Get ready to write papers!
He is a cool dude but the lectures can be pretty heavy. The assignments aren't too complex but be ready to read 1-2 pages of INSTRUCTIONS. If instructions do not match the assignment submitted, automatic 0. He is available via email to students who do not understand or have questions. He also does not sugar coat History and is diversity friendly.
It was a transformative class. Gilmore kept me intrigued.
Absolutely love Paul! Hes a great teacher and an amazing lecturer! Hes great at incorporating his stories to the lecture and inspires his students to really learn history! I would absolutely take any of his classes!
VERY Lecture heavy so do not take him online. In person his lectures are transformative, I often found myself forgetting to take notes because his lectures captivated so much of my attention. Easy grader on the essays, just make sure to do the basics and rid them of grammar and spelling issues and you are easily guaranteed at least a B.
You can tell that Gilmore really enjoys his job by the way he talks about history and how he connects it to his personal life. He is an easy grader when it comes to the essays you have to write just check your grammar. Make sure to take notes.
I loved Professor Gilmore's class as he incorporated many aspects of his own life into the lecture to make it interesting and entertaining. For homework, all you had to do was write four essays throughout the whole semester. All quizzes and midterms were online.
The quizzes and tests are 98% based on his lectures. You can find his tests/quizzes on quizlet. I recommend you voice record lectures and take notes. Also, make sure you are caught up with the readings she gives you.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR BY FAR! He is an amazing historian, and I was always excited to attend his class. It was the best part of my day! He is very passionate about his teaching and is also very passionate about his students. The class is very lecture, reading, and paper-heavy... But the way he teaches kept me focused and intrigued the entire time!
lots of reading and writing but most topics are genuinely interesting and usually ones that are brushed past by most. lectures are fascinating but fast paced, if you get distracted its hard to get back on track. all lecture material is test material. grading is often subjective w/variation of 3~ points, sometimes difficult to tell what he wants.
He kept me so engaged throughout every single lecture. The things he knows about history are mind-blowing to say the least. I got so much out of his class and wish I could hear him lecture again.
My favorite professor I've had in college. His lectures are amazing and he is very knowledgable. If you miss a day of class though, it feels like you missed a lot. You just have to show up and do the work
He is very passionate about History and he is part of the history club. Though I do not like how he writes out notes. They would not be any help if you miss a class.
Participation does matter. Please show up to class Every lecture is important. Study for the quizzes pay attention and do the work and I highly recommend doing the Essay portion for your midterm. He grades you on what you know. He is really passionate about his work. Hope you take his class.
At first he seemed like a fun professor but soon his personality changed. There were a few times in which he blew up on us. He honestly scared me a bit so i stopped showing up to class. Its not a hard class but make sure to turn in the essays and research papers on time because he grades heavy. He judges you honestly, and also has no patience
Professor Gilmore is very passionate about history. I recommend that you complete the mini essay or research at the beginning of the semester. The lectures may seem lengthy at times but it is very important that you pay attention and take notes as the exams are based off of them. All exams will have questions from the beginning of the semester.
He yelled at us 3 times during spring semester because some people had their phone out and he doesn't like that. The assignment he gives aren't bad though. You have to write 1 mini essay and 3 mini research papers or 1 mini research paper and 1 mini essay and he drops your lowest grade. PAY ATTENTION IN LECTURE! He uses the same questions for exams
Gilmore's lectures are captivating - he brings history to life with personal anecdotes. Though the class is lecture-heavy, attending is a must. For study prep, ChatGPT and Unstuck ai were invaluable. With some effort, an A is achievable.
my favorite professor i've had in awhile. he's very passionate about history, i think thats very necessary this day in age. pay attention to him! he will talk about so a lot things that you've proabably never heard of & these things will completely change how you look at certain parts of American History. Respect his time, he'll respect you.
BEST PROF EVER. Bro literally just show up to class and pay attention and you'll do good on the exams. As for the essays he's not a tough grader just put your essay through grammarly for grammar mistakes and turn them in on time, I MEAN IT. THE SYLLABUS IS YOUR BIBLE! Read it! Final exam was lowkey hard recommend going to review session before it.
He was an okay professor. Granted you need to pay attention during the lecture in order to get the content. Try not to take a long lecture class because I can probably fall asleep during that time.
Professor Gilmore is very passionate about history. His quizzes and tests are pulled directly from his lectures. He did not have a book, he gave a few websites with readings. This is what he based his lectures off, but it did not give much insight into the answers to test questions; you really have to be there in class. Take good notes!
Professor Gilmore is a cool guy. He is very outgoing, understanding, and funny. Lectures are relatively interesting, can be tough to get through with all the info put into one class. Strict with time and device usage. Lecture HEAVY but drops lowest test scores and papers. Offers lots of ex credit. Exams are kinda nice tho bec he reuses questions.
Professor Gilmore is the best instructor I have had at this school so far. Extremely knowledgeable, professional, and understanding. His class was exactly what I expected from a college class. Weekly readings to stay on top off and a couple of self guided essays. Overall he is a great professor but be prepared to work for your grade.
Professor Gilmore is a hard grader. His lectures are very long and super informative. As long as you put effort into writing essays you should pass his class. His exams are pretty easy as long as you study. Pretty funny guy.
