Dr Grant is not as bad as some people have asserted. He is ALWAYS available if you need help, and I can tell that he ABSOLUTELY cares about his students 1000%. The people who don't do well don't come to class & don't read the book; I have no sympathy for them. Perhaps he is slightly monotone, but he's good and IMHO the best gov professor @ GGC.
US Government - Dr. Grant's lectures are conversational so they're easy to listen to but his tests require attention to detail. He posts powerpoints used in class and reveiws prior to test so be prepared for multiple choice & essays on each exam. Write 4 journals & 2 research papers over the semester. Good Prof.
I adore Dr.Grant!! He is the most approchable man ever and he really seems to love what he's teaching. No, his class isn't terribly entertaining but he wasn't hired to be a showgirl! I learned a lot and feel like I gained a friend on the staff in the process. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. grant is extremely helpful and very easy to talk to. He expects alot on his tests and you'll have to study hard to get an A. Great teacher, breaks things down and goes at the class's pace. Very understanding and the most bipartisant teacher I have EVER had... its the last day of class and I have no idea where he stands politically.
So I went into this class liking Governement. I got a 3 on AP Government in HS and I am a Pre-Med major. But...He is the most boring and least helpful professor I have ever had. His tests are unreasonable and he forgets that students do have other classes. The tests are worded horribly.
Very unclear. Tests are unfair & too difficult & not enough time. Treats you like little kids. GOOD LUCK if you have him.
Soft-spoken, kind, intelligent, a bit monotone. His exams are a little extreme due to time constraints: 30 multiple choice, 4 short answer, and an entire essay all within 50 minutes. He gives a study guide so there are no surprises. Just study and allocate your time well and you'll be fine. Quite possible to get an A in his class.
If you want an easy A, dont take him. His test are ridiculous. He s a good guy but you will be required to do work.
The class is easy. The tests can be a little challenging. But he provides a study guide, as long as you study it, you'll do fine. There are plenty of assignments and extra credit opportunities to help your grade. I recommend this professor, if you plan on actually doing your work. If you're hoping to get by with no effort, don't bother.
Not very helpful professor. Gets off topic easily. Not reliable when trying to meet with him for help. Does not answer emails. Very politically biast. Not open minded. We know you love Obama Dr. Grant... there are other important people out there as well.
I wouldn't reccommend Dr Grant to anyone. He isn't helpful, he doesn't follow the syllabus, & he doesn't respond to emails. Even if you show up to class every single day, you'll still be lost unless you teach yourself the material from the textbook. His powerpoints have nothing to do with the material that is on his tests, so attendance is useless.
never prepared for class
DOES NOT respond to any emails/ texts. His class is very confusing. In class, you feel very lost. Its basically a teach yourself course. Dont recommend, you will get lost and confused! its a guarantee!
Class lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the tests...study guides cover maybe half the test material. tests are impossible. I studied two days straight for a test and got a B. Terrible class. Terrible teacher.
Nothing he says has to do with the course or the tests. It is pointless to sit in the class. Might as well just read the book and show up for the tests. Good luck, You will need it i promise. Nicest man ever, but not a good teacher.
This is worst teacher ever. He is very slow at getting things done or responding to emails. He very unorganized and unprepared. Don't ever take him!!
If you are taking him. I am truly sorry. He cant remember anything. If you just do his study guides for the test you will have an A.
I am a returning student after graduating with my AA in 2004. In all my life I have never met such an absence minded person. Does not return emails or text, his course syllabus is not followed. The class had the third test and a paper due, final test all at the same time. There is absolutely nothing I can say good about this teacher.
con professor does clarify directions, but he's very nice
He is the most monotone, absent minded very slow person I have ever met. YOU NEED YOUR TEXT BOOK! His lectures have nothing to do with the chapter we are reading, so no point to come to class. He never sticks with any of assignments. He's a tough grader especially on exam essays. You might as well stay home and read and show up on test day.
He is a laid back teacher. Likes to just do his own thing. Teaching and lectures are different amongst all other professors. Test are take home essays. He wants you to pass his class and he will help you whenever you need help.
Great teacher. I would definitely recommend him. His class is pretty easy and he doesn't expect too much from you. Just that you read the assigned chapters and study for quizzes
His class was very boring, and he showed as little interest in the work as the students did. The only grades you will receive in the class are test and exams, and if you don't read the text then you can just mark a F on your test yourself. His study guides are helpful but are worthless up to 90% of the time. I would not recommend him to anyone.
TERRIBLE TEACHER! Professor Grant is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, but he is the worst teacher I have ever had. His tests are from hell! I got a 70% on an essay. Ordinarly I get 95% or above. When he told us what we should have written, I HAD WRITTEN EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED!An impossible man and your grade will only be your 4 tests.
Dr Grants exams are worded to purposely confuse you. He starts the class off with a nice motivating speech on how high the failure rate is in his class... i see why. I studied countless hours to no avail. For example, he tells us to study all of the previous exams for the final, and then the final is entirely different. DO NOT RECOMMEND
I took this course over the summer with Dr. Grant, and he was a very good teacher. He's very knowledgeable about current events. He doesn't follow the syllabus, but this is can be a good thing because he'll let you choose which day you want to take tests. Make sure you read the book. The material on the tests comes from mainly from the text.
Pros: very nice person in general, usually posts up PPTs of his lectures before class, grades things pretty quickly, and you'll do well if read the book and listen in class. Cons: lectures so slowly, easily gets off topic, doesn't post things online, tries to make tricky test questions.
I saw a lot of vague negative responses about this professor. His lectures are actually very helpful in adding more detail other than what the text gives, but it requires a person to be more attentive to him instead of the PowerPoint. The slides are just highlights of the chapters that he goes through and you can read the chapters yourselves to see
He is EXTREMELY BORING! All he does is read the ppts. The powerpoints are no help because they are just bullet points on white slides with black lettering. Its so boring and he is very confusing. Don't even bother going to class because you will be confused and have to teach yourself anyway. good luck if you have him.
Dr. Grant is a nice guy, but an awful teacher. He never uses PowerPoints in our class; we discuss current events 80% of the time that do not pertain to Intro to Poli Sci. Going to class is a waste--over half of my class no longer attends. All tests are take home and submitted online. We only had three grades, all exams. 2 page essay per question.
This sucks he doesn't teach he is always off topic and his restate extremely hard and if something in the test is wrong and it's his mistake he stills says it's the students fault if I was you I would not take his class
Very likable guy, he no longer teaches from power points as of this semester-at first I did not like his methods but then I realize this method of discussion helped more than I thought, you had to read the book or it is pointless for you to even try, only grades- all take home essays which are easy if you read/listen in class.
I can honestlt say Dr.Grant is a very kind hearted person, but unfortunately not a good teacher. All he does is read boring ppts. His exams are difficult and worded to purposely confuse you. When he ask's for the students feedback on test's and everyone is on one accord about a qustion,he want be open-minded about it.I DONT RECOMMEND HIM.
Mr. Grant the worst teacher I have ever had at GGC. He is very boring. He does not stay on topic. HE DOESN'T EVEN POST YOUR GRADES UNTIL THE VERY END. This makes it hard for you to know where you stand in the class. You only have two papers and 3 test the entire semester. He never answers txts, calls,or emails. He is not open minded.I DONT RECOMMEND!
His class is terrible. Although his lecture is quite interesting, he is sound like a disorder professor. He always forget tests and assignments. He is always after and schedule, and we have to take test 3 and final in same day!! Tests are really hard and ridiculous. Extremely hard to get A in his class. He also didn't have enough test sheets for final, so students ahve to wait their test from other students. Don't take this class. You will fail!!
This man is ridiculous. He would not only waste the first 15 minutes of every single class, but would never help you with a question if you had a different opinion, and you give tests and essays that you could only pass if you wrote the way he wanted. His class was very biased and his maximum of 5 grades makes it nearly impossible to do well.
Do not take him!Unless you want to do absolutely nothing during the whole semester and be stressed out the weeks of finals!! Yes, he will give you not only a 80 question final, but an essay and another test all due on the day of your final! Not to add that he will make you feel dumb when participating in class !!He does not let you see your grades!
This class was extremely interesting. Dr. Grant really knows his government and how to teach. If you are able to read the chapters, take notes and do the assigned work you will do fine! The test questions are worded a little tricky but he grades on a curve so do not worry. Also as long as you are not "bs" in your paper, you will do well on those.
Dr. Grant is very passionate about Political Science. He is very kind, but he is also a very tough grader!I personally don't care for POL but if you have an interest in the course, you can pass so long as you read/study! YOU HAVE TO!He lets you know this is college and he isn't going to dumb down his exams and expectations!I enjoyed him!
This guy is the worst government teacher i have ever encountered. He is no help for the test, grades come late. He isn't clear about when test are. Told my class they were on our own for the final, and he wouldn't answer emails or phone calls. DO NOT TAKE, DROP IF YOU CAN. I'm an A student and don't know if i will even pass.
By far the WORST professor I have ever had at GGC. Horrible class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He takes 15 minutes to give out name tags and then the rest of the class to talk about BS on maybe 2 slides of a 10 slide ppt. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE.
i took him for Poly sc. He is tough grader (3 test) each test is 3 queastions and each one is 10pages each. Must read book and TALK in class! He really pushed me to do better i give him that i thought i was going to get a C and i got a B. He pushed me to do the best i could i got C on the first two test he kept pushing! but he is HARD! not easy.
I really enjoyed Dr. Grant. He has a passion for POLS as well as teaching it. He is a difficult grader for test but if you read the chapter(that's the point of buying one) you will be able to follow clearly. If you are looking for a bird course and not interested in learning anything then DO NOT take this course or any other course at GGC.
Lectures the entire class, power points are very unclear, total of 5-6 grades. You will not receive a decent grade on the test if do not do well on the written portion. Grades were never posted. I never knew what my grade was until final grades were posted. DO NOT TAKE HIM
NOOO!! DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He is the worst professor I have ever had in my life!! He is so monotone! He makes the class seem like we are in Harvard or Princeton. DONT TAKE.!! I REPEAT! DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Worst teacher ever! His lectures are pointless & all his notes are on D2L so he tells you to take notes on discussions in class? He only has 3 tests and they are all essays. He makes you prepare for 5 essay questions that are really tough and only one will be one selected the day of. He doesn't grade on time & grades hard. You have to beg for help!!
He is a great professor! Don't listen to the people below. He is a tough grader but if you take notes, go to class, read, and come up with thorough answers for the essay tests then you're set. He gives the potential essay questions two weeks ahead of time so if you procrastinate you won't do well.
Awful class. I have nothing on him personally but he is a horrible professor. He takes forever to update grades. His lectures are long and boring. HIs power points weren't helpful at all. He also is really hard to get in contact with outside of class. During class he is really monotone and very condescending.
Grant was an okay professor. He's very monotone, so bring coffee. He lectures the whole class, and the content is not made interesting. His assignments are all essay. In fact we only had two of them. There were three test, which were all in essay form. The feedback is horrible, no grades and no content is posted in D2L. I still don't know my grade.
I loved Dr. Grant as a person. He was super nice and personable. However, his class made me change my major from poly sci to criminal justice because I literally did not learn one thing from his class. His lectures are based on the reading from the book and then the next class you talk about it. His tests made me want to cry bc they were all essay
he keeps all the way till class is over and passed, every class, all he does is lecture, no powerpoints, no nothing. he just sits there and looks at his notes and talks, there are no grades, u get pop up test all the grade in the class and he has no idea what he is giving u, tells u one day it will be posted not posted for a week later
He's alright. People will say he's the worst, but he just bases the tests on the lectures and the reading. He is very nice and is willing to talk to you about assignments or questions. The class can get boring but make sure to take notes on lectures and you'll do fine.
Cares about your success, down to earth guy... he does a lot of lectures but often tries to engage with the class as much as possible. Not the greatest professor, but certainly not the worst either.
He is very specific with answers when grading that if you don't word it the way he likes it you'll loose points. Only tests, barely any assignments and he's a stern believer that you have to read the book and take notes and even that has proven to be futile. Hard to reach outside of class and is very condescending in class. DONT TAKE HIM PLEASE
All he does is lecture. His tests are very confusing and contain information he did not cover. He is a hard grader, and does not give you credit if you don't word your answers in the specific way he wants them. Also, he is nearly impossible to reach out of class, and takes longer than necessary to grade assignments.
Do not set yourself up and choose this professor. I'm not even over exaggerating. His lecture are all PowerPoint, and test and quiz question do not fall in line with what was said. He doesn't follow the syllabus that is given. He is a tough graded and gives you little to NO credit if the assignment isn't the way he wants it. Worst.
Dr. Grant's class was arguably my least favorite class that I have ever taken in my life! He lectures from the back of the class with a VERY monotone voice in the morning. His lectures are boring and the content is tedious. His tests are purposefully tricky and it hardly is what he actually recommends you to study. It was an awful class!
This was definitely my least favorite class I have taken so far. The tests were the worst part. They were always very confusing. Grades were not posted at all over the semester until after the final exam.
Nice man, horrible professor. You literally have to memorize the whole book in order to exceed any of his exams or to even pass. He isn't energetic, so taking his night class was a huge mistake. He is extremely monotone and goes off subject a lot. Do not take him if you actually care for yourself.
Dr Grant cares about the student. Be prepared to read before going to class. Total of 4 Test and a Final. Make sure that you try to go to class everyday, because his test consists with his lectures.
He is a rather bland lecturer and every class that isn't a test day is a lecture. You definitely need to pay attention because he doesn't use power point, just his voice and the occasional visual. However, he is a real nice guy and very lenient when it comes to grading out of class assignments, which was 2 essays for me.
You could not pay me to take this class again with him. He's a nice guy, but his teaching skills are beyond horrible! He doesn't believe in doing PowerPoints, and he just lectures with a very monotone voice that just drags on and on. Not a fan at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS. It's almost impossible to pass.
Teaches from a very left leaning textbook. Regularly imparts his liberal opinion, countering effective teaching/leading. Extremely vague during lectures, but asks very specific questions on tests. Tests are horrible and have clearly never been proofread. Study guides only fool you in focusing on things that he won't ask on the tests. #NEVERGRANT
Reading is key. If you read the chapters before class, you'll realize everything he discusses in his lectures is in the book. The class is based mostly on exams, but he decided to give us two essays which helped my grade a lot because I'm a bad tester. If you read, you should do ok. It helped a lot that he had a textbook on hold in the library.
Very boring lectures with no powerpoint, but if you have basic political common sense and pay attention during class its not that difficult of a course. There is only 5 grades though so each one is worth a lot.
Lectures are all over the place and boring. Study guides may have helped but he does not have them. The classes are just discussions so make sure you read and memorize the book as nothing else will help and test questions are tricky. Did not like this class at all.
Halfway through the semester I just stopped going. Non stop studying and reading is the only way to pass. He only lectures and doesnt use power points. His voice is extremely monotone and he constantly goes off topic. The only grades we got were from test which contained unnecessary trick questions and one other assignment. Non stop studying is th
He's a really nice guy, but a bad teacher. He lectures every class and his mono-tone voice puts you straight to sleep. There's no flavor involved: no PowerPoints nor visuals. He does offer some extra credit opportunities! If you enjoy spending hours each week reading the textbook then you can pass, but otherwise STAY AWAY.
Do not take this class unless you plan to get a C- or fail. He expects you to read, collaborate with classmates, and ask him questions BUT even after doing that you will still fail. You will be unable to take notes. Why you ask? Well it's straight lecture with no power points and he gets off topic. Don't ask him for help bc he'll ignore your texts.
Only gives lectures and doesnt know how to teach
Thank you, next.
There are only 5 grades total. His lectures consist of him talking during the entire class and he never uses power points. Overall he means well but personally I don't think he was ever meant to be a teacher. For the tests all the questions are multiple choice and almost every single one contains "all of the above", "none of the above", or both.
terrible teacher, provides class schedules that is 2 years old. tests are terrible difficult. if it's not your major don't take him.
He is one if not the worst professor I I EVER HAD at GGC. he takes no joke like weeks almost a full month to grade assignments and forever to grade tests. I would feel depressed with knowing I had to go to his class. I had to make-up a test for him and I went to his office AN ABSOLUTE MESS with papers everywhere no organization! DO NO TAKE HIM
Class was extremely boring, but the material was straight forward. His tests are lengthy and will ask you to write in MAJOR detail. Other than that, very nice guy
As long as you read the material youll pass. He doesnt teach very well but is a very genuine person.
Do yourself a huge favor and do not take a class with this Professor, every test is like a essay No multiple choice questions all long hand written respones and he is a really tough grader and the lectures are very boring. honestly a nice person but a absolutely terrible teacher.
he was an okay professor. His class consisted of 3 or 4 in class Test all written. If you study the study guide you'll be fine. there is 1 project but not too hard. Study and read textbook you will pass. Doesn't count Attendance!! He's pretty chill.
Hes an okay professor. Lectures a lot and all test are written. The test are mostly based on things he says during class. He doesnt answer emails as quick & usually want to speak over the phone.
2/4 tests were really hard for some reason, he's a nice person but wouldn't recommend as a teacher, there's a lot of information to learn so better show up but no final
He's cool, not a bad teacher or anything, but if you take him make sure to take him in person. I took his asynchronous class and it was kinda sucky because he said that class wasn't mandatory but then didn't post anything regarding class except the test lol. You really have to read and study the book, and its very time consuming.
I hate the rep I'm seeing for Grant under these comments. This professor is an extremely passionate teacher, who obviously is very knowledgeable and well informed about what he's teaching. On top of that he has a subtle humor that makes the content that much more interesting. If you're considering taking one of his classes, I suggest you go for it.
He is funny and very wise! He loves to connect with his students and make his lectures entertaining. Yeah, you might have to read the textbook (which is available online for free), but he hands out study guides a week before each test! He gives good feedback and is very understanding. He drops the lowest test grade.
i typically do not do reviews for professors (typically meaning never lol), but having taken this course i had an amazing time with mr. grant as a professor. its so easy to tell that he's educated on what he's talking about, and he has the kind of knowledge that you know comes with time and deep understanding of the concepts. i love this man 10/10
This is by far the worst class I've ever taken. His classes are unbelievably boring, and his tests do not correspond with his lectures. His power points are literally blank, and he writes his own questions on his exams that are so terrible that questions won't have the correct answer on the multiple choice. I hated this class. Please don't take it.
Dr. Grant is one of the nicest Profs at GGC. His lectures may be long, and his exams challenging - but he CARES about you and the grade you receive, and always makes sure that you understand the material. He kept the POLS class/conversations as neutral as possible. I really don't understand the negative feedback some of you have given him.
No, just no. Great guy but no.
Grades everything base on what he saw from other students, not on great details you provided
Save your GPA Avoid him.
While he's a great teacher and all, his tests tend to be worded incorrectly and he had to change alot of students' grades. You have to read the textbook, use the internet, and other things during the online test for a better grade.
I don't understand a bunch of ratings on here. Dr. Grant is the OG. If you ever listen to his actual banter besides class, he's just too based for people in GGC I guess. I enjoy that he has a conservative spin for politics and this even isn't that bad. I've had female teachers in the liberal arts department push insanely liberal stuff on me.
I think he's trying to do better. He asked for a lot of feedback from students on tests, made them pretty easy with a good level of challenging. He was a delight in class and he has a lot of really great connections. He's very understanding and cares for his students. Pay attention in class + take some notes + doing your connect assignments = A
Took him online and he took years to put anything in the gradebook, only took about 3/9 quizzes, never answered emails. Seems like everyone who took him in person had a better experience, but do not take him online!! The tests were easy but spelled incorrectly. Work is all done through the textbook program which takes at least an hour per lesson.
He's a good professor. Very attentive. Responds quick. Reachable at all times. He does extra credit which helps with test grades because they are difficult. He uses UConnect for textbook and assignments. I took him over the summer online. It was very fast paced but that's because it was a summer class. Communication is key with Mr. Grant.
Flat-out, do not take this professor. His lectures are terrible (he reads off PowerPoint) and he talks about nonsense. Awful to reach out as he will not answer your questions, takes years to respond, and will just want to call. His exams are confusing and do NOT match up with lectures/textbooks, just what he wrote and believes is correct. Avoid
Nice professor, if you are one to recognize the wise, you will appreciate your experience
He is really nice, his lectures can get boring, but he really does care about his students! We used the MC graw hill textbook and had a few exams that were't really bad as long as you are completing the assignments on there you should be fine! He does want you to stay updated with political news.
He is okay lectures were really boring, and bro keeps yapping a lot.
One of the nicest teachers I have ever had and really cares. His lectures are pretty intersting and if you pay attention you should be straight.
One of the nicest and caring professors I have ever taken. We had 3 writing exams for the whole semester, super easy and clear guidelines. His lectures were always interesting! If you want to have a general understanding about the topics, make sure to read and take some notes on the chapters of the textbook. 100% would take again.
I took this class back in 2023. He's very kind and caring, the assignments were on McGraw hill so, it can be a lot of work. He's lecture heavy but it's because he wants you to learn. Overall, this class isn't hard if you apply yourself enough and listen a little.
Easy just do hw online and hes reachable just do the work
Prof. Grant is a very wise and respectable teacher. Really responsive to emails and questions, loves to chat in class. His class can be a bit boring to get through, but to be honest, it's passable even if you don't go to many classes. Everything you need is on McGraw Hill Connect.
I look Mr. Grant for POLS 1101 and I by fr loved him. H was so nice and caring and his test were super easy!! I would definitely take him again!!
Such a sweet guy, he really cares about his students and wants you to take in what he's teaching. I can tell he's very passionate about his profession. Very lecture heavy as well as quite a bit of homework but he did extend deadlines if we needed it. Provided very helpful study guides and allowed zoom calls to follow along in class if absent.
He makes you aware of what's happening in the U.S and expects you to also. Uses McGraw-Hill, LOTS of assignments on there. But gives you plenty of time to complete it, and if you asked for more time, he would consider it. He's very nice and wants to know his students. He does call you out if you stay on your phone during class.
He was my favorite professor this semester! He was kind, very passionate about the subject matter, and always willing to help. He gave extensions and supported anyone who asked. Sadly, some students were disrespectful and didn't appreciate how much he cared or how much effort he put into the class and definitely took advantage of that..
Ignore all reviews except this one. I took in person he doesnt care if you show up at all tbh, you can literally easily get a A+ just do all McGraw Hill online work, even the test are on there with no lockdown browser or camera its literally as easy grade yeah his teaching isnt the best but who cares this is a intro class.
Dr Grant is passionate about political science and cares deeply about his students. His lectures are perhaps his weakest aspect as they tend to drone and veer way off topic. Overall though, it was a fine class and I enjoyed having him as a professor. Just do all the homework and be sure to know the material for the tests and you'll get an easy A.
Dr. Grant is very supportive of his students and always strives to be accessible outside of class. I had complications in getting questions answered throughout the semester and his lectures were long and contained heavy material. As long as you pay attention to his lectures, and don't sign up for a night class unless you are certain, you'll be fine
I'm surprised to see Dr. Grant have so many low ratings! I do remember the class being quite lecture heavy so it does understandably get a bit boring, but he's very knowledgeable about American Government and politics and as a result, happily cleared any questions I had!
Very nice but not a great teacher, he would get off topic or move incredibly slow through course material. The first few weeks no one could access to the textbook, out everyone behind. Due dates for anything are wrong in D2L,confusing, or weeks behind other courses schedules. Extremely difficult to get in touch with, puts in grades extremely late.
