Brilliant addition to the amazing science department faculty at CSM. It is rare to find a professor who not only truly cares about his students, showing this in many ways, e.g. correcting exams in record time, but also is tremendously gifted at explaining difficult concepts in a highly effective and entertaining way. BEST BIO TEACHER EVER! Took him during Summer 12 & I got to say his class was not hard at all. Lecture is not boring, he makes it somewhat fun. Just do all the Homework & abstracts & you'll probably pass the class with a B, even if you don't do well in the exam. His test are Easy, if you been really paying attention in class. I enjoyed his class.

Awesome teacher! He really loves what he does and that's what makes him great as a teacher. Easy class as long as you do the work and turn it in on time. Highly recommend him, I took his class because I failed it the first time but he really made bio an interesting subject for me my second time around!

Honestly, in the beginning I wasn't looking forward to this class. My friend was talking BIO110 with another professor at CSM and their class was really chill. He makes you pay attention wth his iClicker questions which were okay. He really does make you work for your grade. And he turned out to be a great bio teacher. I miss his class!

Best professor ever! He grades super easy on labs and essays. His tests are easy if you study a little every day. He also has online homework and clicker questions to bump your grades up a little if you just can't do well on exams.

Okay, Paul is super cool. Although summer classes are intense, he was so good, that I ended up doing well. I must say that prior to this class, I had no interest at all, but after taking his class, I will take his Botany class next semester. Study for tests, his study guides are useless! Make sure you do the labs, and you should easily pass.

Highly organized, very clear with his lectures, extremely helpful whenever questions arise, and all around a great teacher. Great professor. He really helps you whenever you have any questions in lab or in lectures. Also quite an easy grader as long as you put effort into doing your work. Quirky and hilarious. Recommended :-)

He teaches really well. Not even a single lecture is wasting time. As long as you pay attention in class and study before exams, you can get A easily. He explains everything that students may be confused of. And he is considerate - he assigns groups for lab and group projects, so people don't have to stress out finding a group.

Paul is a GREAT professor. He knows his materials well and his lectures are interesting. Attendance is mandatory because you get points for participation points. No quizzes, 3 midterms, and 1 final. His midterms are pretty easy IF only you STUDY the textbook, and slides. GUARANTEED. Labs are graded fairly too. TAKE HIM.

easy class. you get assigned homework and a quiz every week and they are easy. some of them have pictures and illustrations to help you understand. highly recommend taking this class, especially online.

Professor Hankamp is a great teacher. Really wants you to learn and understand the material. He prepares you well for the tests but still complete his study guides since it is a lot of material. Tests are not the majority of your final grade, so you can make it up elsewhere if you bomb one. He usually got us out early.

Mr. Hankamp is a great professor and clearly has passion for what he does. I took Biology 110 during the summer but I didn't get tired of it even with 4 hours a day. He is very clear and helpful, but it's up to you to listen during lectures and study with the online modules before class. With that said, DO NOT MISS A LAB!! It'll mess you up.

Prof. Hankamp is one of the best professors I have ever taken at CSM. He is hilarious, and sincerely tries to make learning botany as fun as possible. His lab practical and final are a pain, but would have been better if I had studied 5 hours for each of them instead my quick cramming... So be a good student, and you'll do well in his class.

Prof Hankamp is a top notch science professor. I've taken Chem 1A and 1B, Microbio, Cellular Bio, etc ... Botany is HARD! He gives NO extra credit and doesn't curve. But ... he's a GREAT professor and his lectures are inspiring - it gets you interested Botany. He records his lectures so you can listen to them - highly recommend! Lab exams are tough

We brought our plants to his office hours and he looking into his glass ball to tell us how to not kill our plants. His guru magic and knowledge is extensive to almost no limits. I didnt care for the subject matter but this man made me enjoy the class. #Hankamp2016

Lots of work to get an A, but very interesting class. Listening to recorded lectures helps capture more needed material.

Very clear expectations and grading system. He sent out lots of reminder emails for deadlines. Test and quiz questions could be a little tricky so pay attention to wording. Lots of homework, but not terribly difficult. Would take another online class from him.

I had taken Bio110 before and did not pass the class because it was hard for me to understand the material. Professor Hankamp makes his labs interesting and his lectures easily to understand. I would definitely recommend this teacher to all students.

I had professor Hankamp for my Botany lab. He's a great teacher; he's very helpful for clarifying topics. He answers your questions clearly no matter how many times you ask him. He definitely sparked my interest in Botany.

Lectures everyday, but Paul Hamkamp is friendly and funny, so the classes aren't boring. Labs are once a week and are mostly easy. Labs are supposed to be 3 hours and 5 minutes, but most labs take up about 2 hours to do. He gives an big, easy extra credit opportunity added to your test grade. You must come to class everyday because he has clickers

Prof. Hankamp is one of the best professors I've ever had so far. His lectures greatly helped me in understanding the course. He is kind and caring towards his students and is very accommodating. You can ace his exams (4 in total throughout the semester) if you don't procrastinate. Just show up to his class and you'll be fine.

Professor Hankamp is a great teacher and his lectures are super engaging and clear. He posts the recordings and slides to his lectures online, but you should definitely attend class as he does grade "clicker questions" during lecture. The labs are fun and you learn a lot. The grading system is clear, if you do the work and study, you will succeed.

Prof. Hankamp is by far the BESSST Bio Instructors at CSM he cares for his students, he is available for office hours, his exams are a heavy load (but hey that's college for you). Clickers are required (5 points each day). His lectures are awesome and he makes it available on Canvas to study. Mandatory to attend Lab. Take him you won't regret it !

Paul is probably one of the sweetest professors ever. Lecture presentations are very clear for the most part and are the main source of information for the whole course. Labs are easy As if you do everything correctly. Study thoroughly well in advance for exams especially the final and the lab practical. Really nice and pretty cute too tbh

Man, Paul was one if not the best organized professor I've had. There were so many resources available on canvas: Videos, audio recordings, study guides. If you use all these and study hard because the test can be tricky you'll do good. Honestly no complaint.

I couldve gotten an A if I actually tried. Hankamp is the best Bio prof Ive ever had in college. He is organized, assigns hw in a timely fashion and its due the Sun before lec on Mon which helps you have an idea of what to expect in lec. His lectures are amazing so clear and Informative. I learned so much from his class Im going into Botany now

He's really passionate about what he is teaching which makes botany, a dull topic, fun. He loves to make jokes and which makes his lectures fun. He is honestly a great guy. If you want to pass, you have to show up to all labs, do all your homework, and study your butt off for the tests, especially the lab practical and final, they are SUPER HARD.

Attendance wasn't mandatory in my class, because the clickers were never here and he never took attendance. Tests are extremely difficult but he gives out very helpful study guides, so make sure you study all the listed materials from there. As long as you study from the study guide, you will pass the class.

Great prof tho sometimes there're too many instructions in the lab that make it hard to follow. His teaching and grading criteria make you work hard and you will learn a lot especially about plants. The summer course is fast so if you are a quick learner, I'd definitely recommend it but if you want to learn without much pressure, take it in fall.

Best prof! I hate everything that has to do with science! Decided to take Biology last summer on his online course, best decision I have made so far! He is a very nice and reliable person. For a course such as Biology and being online, you really have to be a self starter, but Professor Hankamp really took his time and thought our his modules for his online course. The lectures and video support were very informative and detailed. He really set up his students to succeed!

Hankamp should get a raise! He utilizes every teaching method, responds to emails, teaches with enthusiasm, gives detailed directions/grading rubrics, and updates grades constantly. Took his BIOL110 class for Summer. Hes extremely enthusiastic and extremely organized. Everything you need to know hes already laid it out for you all on Canvas. The exams are worth 50% of your grade. Intimidating to see, yes, but he provides a study guide, lecture slides and even records the lectures and uploads them to Canvas to help you study!

This guy is truly amazing. I really appreciate that he put all of his lessons in a video that he uploaded to canvas. Much better than just reading a stupid book. Online was super easy because of it. Just watch the video, take the test, do a few group discussions, one project and pass with no issues.

this is by far one of the most organized professors I have ever had. Study the study guides to the max using his power points and you will pass the class. lab reports are worth a lot so do not waste your time and do them. good luck he is a amazing professor.

I took Biol 110 this summer, and due to COVID-19, it had fully online lectures AND labs. I really liked how Prof. Hankamp organized the class and the workload was a lot, but it was manageable. I would recommend taking his online classes that have a lab, especially during this pandemic.

I took botany last spring and was pretty fun. We had about 2/3 of the class in the classroom before the pandemic hit, and the lectures were super engaging and had lots of clicker questions for points. I like how Prof. Paul respects our student budgets and doesn't make us buy a textbook or homework access code. He provides everything you need!!!

I really liked online environmental sci at CSM. The class uses a case-based approach, with no required textbook, which I liked. Env Sci is interdisciplinary, which is cool.

I took the summer course and managed to get an A-. Participation in Lab discussions is a must. The coursework is a lot but not overwhelming and the course material was very accessible. There are auditory lectures, slides, and video transcripts, which I thought was nice and inclusive.

Prof Hankamp was one of the best teachers I've had! As long as you do the work, its an easy A. The workload was reasonable and he gave a good amount of time to do it. He is very punctual and a kind person. Definitely would take another one of his classes! 10/10 recommend.

Professor Hankamp is a sweetheart. He's definitely one of the best science profs at CSM. I took his botany class in spring 2020 and he was very understanding when we had to switch to online learning. However, this doesn't mean that his class is an easy A. His tests are fair but you really have to study for them.

I took this class the summer of 2020 (covid situation). Everything was online and he had a clear set schedule for assignments, quizzes, and tests that made it very easy to follow. Easy class if you pay attention to the lecture videos and study the material. I studied for about 1 hour a week, including the final, and I got a 91%.

I'm enjoying learning about plant science in Biol 145. Paul's teaching style is very accessible for students that work full-time and have kids, like me.

Botany is a tough course, but Prof. Paul does an incredible job organizing his Canvas page. He provides everything you need for free, which I appreciated. I like that I can Zoom with him for office hours when it was convenient for me, that was super helpful. I highly recommend this class.

I really like that Biol 110 is now offered fully online, even the lab. It works a lot better for my schedule. In the summer, it is a crazy ton of work, but I found it manageable. Prof. H was supper good at communication and keeping us on track. Highly recommend.

I took Professor Hankamp's class in the spring of 2021 and I can tell that this guy is a gem. Don't think this class is easy by anyway but the way how professor has structured the course is amazing, everything you need will be on canvas. The textbook is optional but I still used it and I can tell it helped me. Overall, just take this guy's class :)

I took Professor Hankamp for BIOL 110 over the Summer 2021 semester. Although there was a lot of work since it was a shorter semester, it was easy to learn and follow the schedule since there was only one due date a week; Great if you like doing things at your own pace. Botany can be a very difficult subject, but his lectures and readings are very clear and accessible. The use of discussions and the requirement of asking a question at the end of many assignments was way more helpful than I would have imagined. Assignments can be difficult at first but feel fulfilling when it all clicks and you finish it.

Prof Hankamp is great! Not a biology major, only took this for my GEs, but I love the class structure! He has clear grading criteria, always posts reminders and announcements, and overall his communication is excellent. Weekly quizzes, lectures, and an assignment. Deadlines are very doable. Prof has great recorded lectures.

I really enjoyed taking Professor Hankamps botany course. His lectures were clear, intriguing, and directly related to the assignments. He posted detailed rubrics for bigger assignments and projects which were very helpful to receive a good grade. He also gave ample time for assignments to be completed. Paul Hankamp is great. His lectures are somewhat long, but they give you all the information you need to know so it is worth it. I felt like I learned a lot in his class. He is super kind, understanding, and knowledgeable about the subject. Some of the work feels like it is busywork, but that comes along with every class.

Paul (how he likes to be called) is amazing! I took online BIO 100, and his class basically consists of watching his lectures, taking notes, and taking a ten-question multiple-choice quiz at the end of each chapter. All assignments/quizzes are due Monday at 11:59 every week. Very easy class overall and a great professor!

Professor Hankamp's class was an asynch., so the class was delivered in the form of lectures, discussion boards, and easy submission assignments. He always seemed happy about teaching his students and wanted to emphasize that we could make a change from the mistakes of the past. This class is an easy A. Less than an hour of work per week.

Prof. Hankamp's course is an easy A. Take notes from his lectures, write about biology/science in the news, and take his exams which are open note and book. However, the retention of knowledge from this class is just about zero, hence the score of 4. Take this class if you're filling IGETC credit, not as a stepping stone to other biosci.

I learned so much about bio in this class. The assignments really helped me understand complicated bio concepts. In fact, i think i want to major in bio now, and also try a bio lab. Highly recommend this prof, he is very supportive.

Took his asynchronous BIOL 100 for the summer session at CSM this year. Content was taught by lectures, and you can easily get by just watching those. Though, his lectures alone are insufficient to truly understand the material, and you'll have to teach yourself certain topics from it. Otherwise, not difficult whatsoever for an A.

I had to take this class for a prerequisite and it is such an amazing class. The work is very straightforward and released on a weekly basis. very easy :)

I love Professor Hankamp. He does a great job doing virtual lectures during the asynchronous environment. He also answers students' questions via email about an assignment they are confused about. Hankamp also gives out homework assignments on Canvas and allows us to have all week to do it and turn it in ahead of time to get it over with.

I am not a STEM person but this course was super interesting and relevant. In the asynch class there is one lecture a week (10-20 minutes) and then a short video and 200 word response. The midterm and final are short answer questions and there are 2 research projects. He is a super easy grader if you do the work on time and he is really nice!!

Professor Hankamp's class was amazing! The assignments were pretty easy and he was an easy grader. This was one of my favorite classes last semester. You do have to teach yourself some things for some assignments, but overall a great teacher

Prof. Hankamp's class was well organized and he himself was a fast grader and quick to answer/give feedback if needed. He's super patient and is generally likable. My only drawbacks from this class that this is a 5 unit course so be prepared for the load that comes with it, it especially catches up to you before exams.

Organized professor, made most content understandable. Mainly graded by 10pt worksheets w 4 online exams & final lab practical. Be prepared to work for your grade! Lots of plant sketching and microscopy work during labs. Did end early sometimes but be prepared to stay until 5 :) Made friends in this class by working together a lot, highly recommend

you can tell he cares about his students sucess. replies to emails quickly and gives good feedback. do the assignments and quizzes you'll pass with an easy A. Most of the work we did were 200 word summaries of what we learned about the lecture following a 10 question quiz. only gives a week late policy and will not give extensions after that.

His lectures are pretty brief which can be misleading because the reading is more extensive. The exams will rely heavily on what you read, and not so much on what is covered in the lectures. Think of his lectures as the tip of the iceberg of what is covered in the exams. I encourage students to read the online textbook and the optional textbook.

His grading is extremely clear and he was super responsive to emails, never failing to answer any questions that came up. His tests are essay questions so that lessens the pressure big time. Very organized class. Great professor but the context can be heavy. Each lab is graded on accuracy so make sure double double-check answers or check with your peers. Lectures and tests were online. Hw assignments are due every week (online lab and a writeup) which is fair. This class is easier than other bio classes in sequence. Do your work = A.

The in-person labs were challenging but really interesting. I loved all of the teamwork we did in lab, and I made a lot of friends.The online lectures were perfect for my busy schedule. Highly recommend this professor. Evem though I worked really hard and only got a B, I learned so much from Prof. hankamps botany class.

Professor Hankamp's botany class was a challenging but rewarding experience. The labs involved detailed plant sketching, but working with classmates made it enjoyable. Lectures were online, and unstuckstudy proved helpful for study prep.

He's hilarious! Cracks a lot of dad jokes during lab. Super accessible during in-person sessions, but also outside of class. His exams are pretty heavy, so read the supplemental readings and 100% watch the lectures before lab, as they're lengthy. He's passionate. Would recommend taking his class if it's your first time taking a science course.

Pretty chill guy who's passionate about Biology, I don't really care about bio and am getting through it pretty easily.

Botany was a tough subject for me as this was my first major course, but I ended up really enjoying it. The lab room is set up so that it is easy to work together and get help when we need it. I recommend this class if you wanna be a bio major but are just getting started. Prof. Paul is pretty funny too, and he seems to care about students.

He's a pretty nice guy. I took his env science class as well and really enjoyed it. Lectures and tests are online with one in-person lab test. Labs are pretty long and there's a lot of drawing involved. He's accessible for questions inside and outside of class. He sometimes comes off as a little condescending or rude, but overall I recommend!
