Get ready to be confused every day! He is all over the place ! Speech should be fun !This class has been everything but fun! Run as fast as you can ! YOU WILL THANK ME LATER ....
A lot of work but none of it is difficult. His sense of humor and emphasis on civic engagement keeps things interesting. Make sure to read the syllabus and any handouts. No one likes public speaking, just show up to class and do the assigned coursework and you will get at least a B.
Public speaking is scary but Professor Hendrickson makes it a little less so. Just show up and listen to his lectures and you should be fine. 3 speeches and a midterm. If you put some effort in your speeches, he will give you good feedback on what you should be improving. I'd definitely take him again.
The world is in desperate need of more Professor's alike Doctor Hendrickson.A man who is witty, honest and kind; valuing each and every one of his students. Hendrickson seeks to harness your potential. I walked out of his class every evening inspired and eager to divulge into my assignments. Here's to the Sensi of speech!
Just dreadful Boring and the class was constantly confused when it came to assignments. The ONLY positive thing is he gives good feedback on ways to improve .
Paul is a great professor. You are assigned 3 speeches and 1 mid term. He provides a syllabus that is followed throughout the semester. There are never any surprises. The speeches are graded more on the writing and not on the delivery. He is willing to work with you if you have any questions or problems.
Honestly, I would not take this professor again. He is very opinionated and if he does not like what you stand for, I assure you that he will grade harsher because of it. He makes incredibly inappropriate assumptions about you based on meaningless conversation. His smart remarks and slight jabs at you if you do not agree with his views are peevish.
Basically, he's an okay teacher if you become a teachers pet. If you mess up once, you're officially on his naughty list. Also, he's very irritable so don't be late to class or skip a lot. You get three absences before it affects your grade, use them wisely.
I am very thankful that Hendrickson was my professor. I had to miss class a couple times due to family reasons and he was very willing to work with me and help me succeed. He only gives one test, a midterm which is difficult but the study guide is basically the test if you're not too lazy to do it. 3 speeches in total that aren't awful, butnot easy
Intro to speech communications was a very interesting class to take . I believe Dr. Hendrickson is by far the best professor I've ever had in my whole college experience. He treats you as an adult and it is really up to you what grade you get in the class . As long as you do the work and show up to class, you will be good to go . Great feedback
Professor Hendrickson is an interactive lecturer who enjoys participation from the students. Although the work is hard, if you put in the time you will get rewarded. He is understanding of the students, and is apt to help those who show that they are working hard in his class and in doing the expected homework.
Professor Hendrickson was an excellent public speaking teacher. He is hilarious and makes speeking in front of the class comfortable. Three speeches and one test during the semester. The speeches do take a while, but professor Hendrickson explains exactly what you need and is always willing to help. I would recommend him to anyone taking this class
Dr. Hendrickson is an amazing professor. It was evident from the beginning of the class that he loves what he does. I could not ask for better professor to teach this class. I love being in his class so much that I taking another class with him.
Dr. Paul Hendrickson is one of the best professors I had so far. He is easygoing, very understanding, funny and serious at the same time when it comes to teaching, gives great feedback to help the class improve. He is fair with grading, and give chances to make-up/improve. Overall, Dr. Paul Hendrickson is a great professor.
Overall I enjoyed my time in Professor Paul Hendrickson's class. He enjoys engaging and really picking apart the things you will be learning in his speech class. His lectures are not long at all homework is straightforward, occasionally you will read the textbook. He explains things with clarity and if you are ever confused he will help you surely.
Hendrickson is fair, engaging and funny. Theres 3 speeches and a test, all the work is straightforward, and he gives you till next class for late work. His pdfs basically cover everything so I only used the book once. I highly recommend this class, just show up, put effort in your work and you will pass.
Professor Hendricks was amazing. He took the time to help me understand and create speeches that were worth reading and listening. I exposed myself to a bunch of strangers and we all later became really good friends. He is easily to approach and I definitely learned a lot. You need to work hard and commit, but if I were you I'd take his class.
This professor genuinely cares about his students. He is funny and a great teacher. Yes, the class is hard, but if you do everything he tells you to do it is so easy. He engages everyone and teaches you what it is to become a strong writer and speaker. I would highly reccomend this professor, i wish he taught MATH!! Thank you Paul!!!
This Professor is by far one of the best Ive ever had. Challenged me and helped me every step of the way. Honestly cares about his students and their education. Barely ever needed the textbook. Interesting and hilarious lectures. Seriously, if you get the chance, take this class. You wont regret it.
Great teacher! Thank you Paul because of you, I came out of ny shell and lost my fear of public speaking! He made me feel comfortable. 3 speeches, few papers, one midterm and a GREAT, FUN time :)
I was dreading taking a speech class but Paul made it easy. He is really awesome and funny and cool! He isn't a touch grader on the speeches, if you try you best you will get a good grade. The speeches aren't impossible either. If I can make an A in speech class, so can you !Also he is SUPER helpful! Take him! He really cares about his students!
Read the syllabus, everything you need is clearly stated in it. Participate in class discussions, do the work, and expect decent grades. Only one test (midterm) but is fairly easy if you take the time to do the study guide. Make use of the in class time to edit and critique your speeches. Listen and take note of the things he wants you to change.
Prof. Hendrickson was an inspirational teacher. He was always willing to help and give suggestions in order for you to improve your writing and speech techniques. Public speaking is scary, but in his class, you will find that it is not so bad. I would recommend him to anyone looking to take speech. Show up, participate, and you will be fine!
I would absolutely recommend Dr. Paul's class. He is a wealth of knowledge and works very hard and long hours to see all your questions and comments are addressed. Even if you get confused, which trust me I did a few times, he stops and will take the time to go through the work and assignments. I thoroughly enjoyed his class!! I will take another.
His class is Kinda hard. His statements, lectures, and instructions are hard to follow along to and it's all just spread out everywhere. It feels like he hasn't been teaching long because he sources out way too much for credibility and he might just do it because he's comfortable with it but he's so passionate about speech that it seems off track.
You will have 3 speeches and 1 midterm. Paul is not an easy teacher but he is a great teacher. If you actually want to learn how to give a good speech and how to talk in front of people take him! We had to go to a speaking event where kids from all speech teachers spoke, and his students were the only ones that knew how to speak. He is fabulous.
Don't take this class if you aren't willing to put in any effort. Paul will take the time to help students improve as much as they'd like as long as they are willing. There's 3 speeches that get progressively harder so it's imperative to improve. There's one test, a midterm, & it's almost verbatim from notes. Paul is fantastic. Highly recommend.
Grades hard, especially on the written components.
Dude is Legit
The class isn't hard if you pay attention and follow the guides he gives you. Class was fun and once he breaks the ice that first day, its not so nerve racking. The midterm is a little hard because it is all fill in the blank but he gives you the study material and you just have to remember it.
I loved Mr. Paul's class it was something I looked forward too every week. He made learning about speaking how to speak really fun and in gauging I highly recommend him as a speech teacher you will not regret having his class. He really connects with his students and wants to see all of them succeed he really is an awesome professor to have.
Paul Henrickson was probably one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very clear on expectations and has a knack for giving a clear understanding for what it is that is needed in order to be successful. I looked forwarded to each class and always learned something. It was like reading a great novel and being excited to find out how it ends
I really enjoyed Paul's class! It is tough, but it's EXCELLENT training. You can't slack off in life and this class is just the same. We get to pick our own topics, so pick something interesting because it will be challenging. Work hard, smile and it will be fun!
He was funny, gave me great feedback on my speeches and was easy going. We used the textbook for one chapter in the beginning so if money is tight, make friends and share with someone. I'd highly recommend Professor Hendrickson
Professor Hendrickson is one of-if not the best teachers I've had. Like most classes just pay attention and do the work.
I thoroughly enjoyed SPC2017 w/ Prof. Hendrickson; this course was challenging, & I love a good academic challenge. He instructed the course in a very professional demeanor, & I got the sense that he genuinely cared about the success of his students. His lectures prompted thoughtful class discussion, & he motivated us to be creative. Great teacher!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Like most, I took this course as a requirement. This is the professor to take it with. Everything is clearly presented and he is there if you have any questions. The work is simple and straightforward, just keep up and meet the deadlines. If you have a fear of public speaking, this class will genuinely help you. Participate!!!
Dr. Hendrickson is very passionate about his class. He gives clear guidelines and explains if there is any confusion. This class is not an easy "A" type class, he does expect you to put in the effort, do NOT try and take short cuts. I learned a lot from this class and would highly recommend this class. He is military friendly.
Excellent professor. Perhaps the best one I've had. Not too much work. Three speeches, 1 midterm (just study with note cards and you will pass) and a few assessments on yourself and your classmates speeches. Paul is hilarious & his class is really enjoyable, and he makes you comfortable to speak in front of others. Trust me! Take this speech class!
I was very nervous to be speaking in front of my class. Paul makes the class enjoyable. He gives really good and thorough introductions to each assignment you will do. You will not be left in the dark! I feel I benefited greatly from taking the class! Face your speaking fears and go for it. I would definitely take this professor again if I could!
Professor Hendrickson is a terrific and fair teacher. I was nervous to take a speech class, but with his help, by the end of the class I felt much more confident. He teaches this class with enthusiasm, a great sense of humor, and provides encouragement. Do your assigned work and you will pass.
Prof. Hendrickson is awesome! No one likes speech, but he makes it fun and truly gives you everything you need to be successful. Just show up, participate, and do your assignments to pass with an A. When he gives feedback, definitely use it to improve on speeches. If you don't like to write, then this class could be challenging. No final exam.
I honestly really enjoyed Professor Hendrickson's course, granted everyone just calls him Paul because he's very casual, which is a good thing in my opinion. You're going to need to put forth effort into your speeches and actually apply yourself in order to pass the class. He gives great feedback and you'll apply what you learned later in life.
Paul is a great professor! I took him for speech first then philosophy. I positive if I took it with a different teacher I wouldn't have don't so well!
Paul is an enthusiastic professor and easy to get along with. His passion and excitement for the course he teaches allows for real appreciation for the subject. He's quick to answer emails and any questions you may have. Participation helps, and grades are earned. He genuinely cares about his students. He's a great Professor & I highly suggest him.
What can you say its a speech class. But I would take him again. He is very good at making his class comfortable. There is a total of 3 speeches and a midterm. He does like to make sure you know how to research. Get the book you will be using it. Most of the things he talks about or you read in the book he puts it on the midterm.
Funny and cool guy. It's a really easy class if you actually listen to the words coming out of the mans mouth. He tells you exactly what's on the midterm and exactly what he expects from you. The only people that won't do well are the ones that don't listen or don't read. He literally has documents telling you exactly what he's looking for.
At the beginning of the semester, he sent out some information for extra credit. At first, I didn't want to take a speech class, but being a requirement, I had to. He was an amazing professor. Jokes here and there, told you exactly what he expected from us, and literally gave us answers for our midterm throughout the beginning of the semester.
Professor Paul is very thorough when it comes about giving instructions on how to write and present your speeches. However, you must do the work or won't pass. Attendance and participation is a must. His lecture are long and boring because lots of repetition so making sure you understand what's expected of you. He provides feedback.
Very good instructor that truly cares and he is very passionate about public speaking. His number one goal is for his students to comprehend the lesson and to excel in public speaking. The work is very simple and easy. You are able to select the topics for your speeches. Come to class, do the work, give your speeches and you'll pass.
Awesome Professor. Be prepared to write a few papers, give three speeches, and take a midterm. The midterm was no joke either, mostly free response and short answer and definitely required studying but if you study it was pretty good. All and all it was a very entertaining a fun class that you could freely express yourself in and learn a lot.
Dr. Paul is the best professor I've had! He gives excellent feedback and really cares about his students. Take advantage of the detailed notes he provides; they are invaluable. He puts a lot of effort into ensuring everyone's success and he expects the same effort from his students. Dr. Paul's class is fun and inspiring, you will learn so much!
He is a great professor. Class is easy if you do the work. He straight forward and very willing to help. I recommend taking his class!
Professor Hendrickson's class was one of the best I've taken in my first year of college. It is quite difficult to practice public speaking, but Paul did an excellent job in teaching it. He gave rough, yet honest feedback that helps you get better as a speaker. He clearly lays out how to structure and formulate your speeches. Thank you professor.
Dr. Hendrickson is quite the professional teacher. I took the Intro to Public Speaking class, SPC2608. If you take his class, you will be engaged with the other students, challenged to give three speeches, and learn about great speakers such as Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, and others. This is a class for serious students wanting to grow.
Paul's class was so amazing! This class was easy and we had three speeches. The longest speech was only 7 minutes long. The only test we had was the midterm and it was super easy as long as you followed along in class and just reviewed all of the detailed notes that he provided for you! AMAZING CLASS HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This was the least painful speech class possible.
Prof. Hendrickson is one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only is he very good at giving lectures and teaching the best ways to speak in public, but he's also a very inspired person, who clearly enjoys his job, and is very interested in his students' succeeding in the course. Moreover, he's very understandable and supportive.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! Professor Hendrickson was by far one of the best professors i've taken for speech... And I already took 3 speech classes. He is amazing super funny and makes class entertaining. Just do your work and practice, practice PRACTICE for your speeches. Would definitely take again!
So first of all, Paul is one of the best professors I have had. He is hilarious, grades fairly, and is always there to answer any questions about assignments. There is a textbook for the class, however we only read a couple chapters. Most of the work was straight forward, and I think the best assignment was the group speech at the end of the class!
Professor Hendrickson's lectures are engaging and he makes them relatable. He's very laid back but professional. There are not many assignments or tests but those that you will complete require good effort. He makes his expectations and grading criteria very clear. If you put in the work and follow his suggestions you are sure to succeed.
His midterm is short response; you have to use his EXACT language, or you will get it wrong. You write a total of 9 essays for his class, and one of which requires you to attend a speech outside of his class. You only use a few pages out of the textbook like once, but you have to get it because there are a few questions from it on the midterm.
He prefers to go by Paul. He jokes about the never-ending pain and suffering of all college-age students, but in reality he is a very good teacher that actually does care. He cares about you as a person and your grades. He had three papers, all easy if you're used to writing, and one midterm. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Hendrickson is a very fair grader. If you put forth the effort in the speeches and actually try to engage in the class discussions, you can pass. The classroom discussions and resources from his unit folders are very helpful. His rubrics are precise in terms of what he is looking for in a speech. He made the class less painful.
Professor Hendrickson made this class as less painful as possible. His criteria for speeches were very precise and right to the point. If you put forth the effort and actually try to succeed, youll pass. In a good way, he really pushes you out of your comfort zone. Professor Hendrickson is truly an awesome professor to take for SPC 2017.
Dr. Hendrickson is one of the best professors I have been exposed to at FSCJ. He encourages and prepares you for higher-level education. Dr. Hendrickson explains each assignment thoroughly and gives ample time for them to be completed. He also provides quick response to any emails or phone calls. He cares for his students. Highly recommend him.
The class was tough but he told you everything you needed to know. If you want an easy A then don't take this class, you actually learn about speech and gain knowledge. I liked it a lot, he was really funny and understanding.
Professor Pauls speech class was an absolutely wonderful experience. He truly cares for each student and the work they do. I expected this to be a very boring class, but it was quite the opposite. Very engaging lectures with thoughtful class discussions. One exam that isnt difficult if you take notes. Make sure to practice your speeches.
Paul is an amazing speech professor who is passionate about his material and cares for his students. He is one of the best professors I have had because he pushes you to do your best. If you put the time and work in and come to class prepared you will pass. Paul makes speech class fun and helps you become a better public speaker.
Very very difficult class. Heavy lectures, very repetitive. He gets really in depth to the topic which is good, however, dont expect him to "help" you out at all. Its right or its wrong. You have 3 main speeches to do, and one must be attended outside of class. Also! there is a quiz! make sure you study.
Paul was amazing! Yes, the papers are tough and it CAN be difficult to speak in front of the class, but Paul is very helpful and sarcastic and understanding. Really, it's a great class and my speaking skills improved greatly!
One of the best Professors. Very intelligent, made speech interesting and fun. Gained so much knowledge from the great lectures. He cares about teaching and having students learn. The tools he gives to write and deliver your speeches are beyond valuable . Just an amazing professor.
he was a great professor and explained the assignments very well but there is a lot of writing in this class and you will need to print out a LOT of papers for his class
Very rude teacher.
If you are someone who would rather sleep than go to class this man is not for you. It is an easy pass if you simply show up. However, you HAVE to give speeches in this class and you must basically memorize them. You can use note cards but you can't read from them and he can tell if you do.
everyone in my class hated it so much. He is very mean and can does not care at all about what you need help in. If you ask a question he will say "its on blackboard" and gets angry. you also give a lot of speeches.
Speech classes suck in general, but enjoyed him as a professor. Only 3 speeches. 3, 5, and 9 minutes long. Very clear on what he expects. Midterm was very easy. Only test you had. Then homework assignments were mainly peer reviews and self assessments. If you put in the effort on speeches you will do fine. It is a lot of work, but thats typical.
Great professor, learned a lot and I feel I benefited many ways from this course.
Class is really fun. You have three speeches which are super easy if you follow what he gives you. Paul makes sure you are going to do well on the speech and wants to see you strive in the class.
Paul was very laid back and always willing to discuss problems, questions, and general topics of interest. He encouraged class discussions and provided as much assistance as necessary. His grading criteria were very clear and he made assignments simple, so long as you put in a bit of effort.
Paul was an excellent professor who was always willing to help. I would gladly take another class taught by him but sadly my major says otherwise. Taking a speech class is never fun, especially not for someone as socially aversive as I, but thanks to his great teaching skills and charismatic mannerisms his class was both interesting and enjoyable.
Mr. Hendrickson is a great professor for the student who doesnt like a lot of busy work. Every assignment relates to the next so take all of them seriously. The better you do on one assignment the better you will do on the next. Grading criteria is extremely clear and he will show you EXACTLY what you need to know for exams. Bonus: funny as can be!
Definitely a helpful professor that works with whatever you may have going on. Grades fairly. You need an audience of at least 5 people for the three speeches that he normally has you do (at least for my class that was the amount) but besides that if you do the work and give it an honest effort you'll succeed. I would recommend!
Paul is very clear on what is expected for the semester. He thoroughly goes over how to write a speech which was helpful because i have never taken a speech class before. There were three main speeches which varied in topics. For example i wrote a speech about Death with Dignity. I learned more about the world we live in and he's funny
great prof. public speaking is nerve wracking af but he does an amazing job at making you feel comfortable, he's kind of dorky and cracks jokes all the time. very to the point when it comes to curriculum and leaves no room for confusion. 11/10 would take him again.
Professor Hendrickson's class helps you grow. He really dissects the aspects of speech and makes it easier once you have to get up there. He shows the many tips and tricks, but overall how to best prepare for your moment to speak in front of others.
Mr. Hendrickson is a great instructor. I would take another class with him.
His class is so fun and I had a great time. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. He made public speech really easy and not as scary as I thought it would be.
Paul is AMAZING. I hate public speaking & was not looking forward to this class. His sense of humor/teaching style made all of my stress go away day 1. We had three speeches & his expectations were clear. His feedback was helpful & told what we could improve on. He also gave assignments outside of the speeches to boost our grade. Would take again!!
Speech is not a class most want to take but Hendrickson makes it easier. He makes you feel comfortable when you are in front of the class. I learned a lot about speech writing and delivery. Attendance is mandatory but he is also very understanding when emergencies arise. Grading criteria is clear. Lectures are great.
Speech isn't a class most college students like to take but Paul made the class much easier and very comfortable. He lets you know whats expected from you in the beginning of the class. Only 3 speeches & a midterm. The class isn't hard and he also gives other assignments to boost your grade. Paul helped me become a better speaker. I would reccomend
Easy class, 3 speeches, 1 midterm, and a few other assignments. The midterm was a lot to remember. I didn't care for the professor, he talks in 3rd person, belittles students, and is politically one sided when it comes to a speech you must watch. You barely use the textbook. He does offer extra credit and he is a easy grader.
Honestly a really fun class to take! My class was small so it felt like we became our own little friend group. Very supportive atmosphere, especially on speech days. Dr. Paul gave solid advice on all of the speeches and a few things to apply to life as well. Remember the Paul Rule!!
I've previously taken his speech class and it was great. When I took his philosophy class it was interesting. There is a lot of reading but he goes over the reading in class. He makes sure everyone has an understanding of the reading and usually there is a light discussion afterword. There are papers, but it's more like one paper per reading.
Paul is passionate and dedicated to teaching what many people find to be challenging concepts in philosophy. Yet, the material made me genuinely excited to come to class. I really enjoyed all of the readings and found they were diverse and inclusive. I learned a lot in this class and it will expand your knowledge and way of thinking.
I absolutely recommend that you take Professor Paul to learn Speech Communication. He really cares about his students, and he wants you to succeed. This class is not an easy A, you have to work for it. Three speeches and one Midterm exam . Just actually do the work and you´ll do great, and he will be there to help at every step.
Prof Paul is a AWESOME teacher. I would recommend him to any student who has to take speech. Show up to class, be attentive and you will learn a lot. Paul is a very wise man who will help you overcome the fear of speaking in front of public. Prof Paul helped me to become a stronger speaker and i know he can do the same for any other student.
Paul is the absolute best!! I was so nervous having to take a speech class but my nerves went away because of Paul's humor, personality, & teaching style. Paul gives clear instruction & if you do what is expected you will pass with an A. I never envisioned myself actually enjoying this class but I ended up loving it because of Paul. Take his class!
I was very nervous to take a public speaking class, however Paul made every class enjoyable! He was able to grow every students self confidence. My only regret was not taking the class sooner, as I feel even more so prepared for my future classes.
Doesn't explain the assignments and grades them tough, is politically one-sided and picks favorites, Also gives you 3 speeches 1 3, 1 ,8 and 1 12 min. You might think that's fine till you realize you have to memorize it all and the other classes do a 5 min as their final speech. He also records his students on speech day and posts it on youtube
Taken Professor Hendrickson for two classes, and I love this man. He's engaging and entertaining, and he truly cares about his students understanding the course materials. Paul is down to earth and funny, yet keen and understanding. He is attentive to his students, and discussion always sprouts. Ask him about his life and philosophy if you can.
Brilliant and inspiring Professor. Professor Hendrickson gives you tools to make the assignments easy to accomplish but tools are great for other classes and in life. He sets you up to succeed, of course, you must put in the work. He makes speech class interesting, exciting and fun. One of the best Professors.
Paul is great. Good personality and hes willing to help you whenever needed. His work isnt hard but a bit tedious. I enjoyed taking his class
Material wise, the class can be a bit overwhelming. For every speech you have to memorize most of it, you can only have key word notes. You also have to write a peer and self review along with a 3-5 page paper. The classes and lectures are engaging and he makes sure to try and answer any questions you may have. The workshops DO HELP! Go to class!
Will give you the freedom to choose your own topic but will make you feel inferior if you choose a topic he doesnt take a personal interest in. Picks favorites, very rude to students that are not his select few. Unclear grading system. Overall makes you feel badly about yourself when you speak/give an answer
Rude to students. Is clearly upset that he is teaching and thinks he is above everyone else. Talks in the 3rd person which is just awful. Unhelpful, mean, and overall annoying
Prof. Paul is a great teacher. You will receive the grade you work for.
Dr. Hendrickson's class was amazing. He explains things clearly and encourages students to ask questions and participate. Showing up to class is a good idea since he provides a lot of feedback on speeches and speech topics. Our class ended up being online and he tried his best at being as accommodating as possible because of the circumstances.
Paul was awesome! Hes humorous and willing to help on any problems you may have. I want to say it was an easy A but you have to put in the work! Its a speech class so there is a lot of group work but they really do help in the end especially if youre not comfortable which no one is! Take this class if you want a professor whos fun & will push you
I had Professor Hendrickson for my Intro to Public Speaking class. He's a phenomenal professor who clearly cares about helping his students. I enjoyed him so much that I took his Philosophy class and I can confidently say that these two classes of his have been a true highpoint in my FSCJ education. Great lectures, fair grading, and very fun.
I could tell that he wanted us to do well. Any questions I had he would answer them. When I emailed him, he responded quickly. if we had questions regarding our speeches, he would meet with us on zoom to help us. When I first took this class I thought I was going to do badly. But with his help I got an A. As long as you do the work, you will pass
I believe the keys to pass this class is attendence, studying, be open to his feedback and turning assignments in on time. There's a midterm you need to study for that is based on application and memory. The feedback he gives you on your speeches is imporant because it will help you improve the next one and get a better grade.
Professor Paul enjoys teaching, and it shows. He makes sure every student not only understands the material, but is engaged. If you need want to learn about yourself, like hearing about new topics, and need to take a speech class, I recommend Prof. Paul. Come to class, pay attention & do your work and it will pay off!
I cannot recommend this class enough! This course has been by far the most interesting and thought provoking I have taken thus far. Professor Hendrickson really encourages you to think for yourself and tackle complex questions regarding topics such as morality. There were 3 papers due but he helps you every step of the way. Take this class!
Professor Hendrickson was a very funny and sarcastic professor. He does care about your attendance in class. He is very helpful and loves to talk things out that you may not understand. He grades how you should be graded. If you put in the work you will recieve the grade you deserve, if you did not, by no means expect a good grade. wonderful person
Great Class! you have to show up!
Paul is amazing. You give 3 speeches in the semester. He's super caring, funny, and understanding. I was not looking forward to taking public speaking this semester, but Paul has made it so fun. I have thoroughly enjoyed taking his class and have learned a lot. Don't miss your opportunity to take an absolutely amazing speech professor!
Professor Hendrickson was very judgmental. He grades extremely hard, and even though you are allowed to pick your topics of your speech, if the topic does not apply to him, in some way, he won't like it. Responds to emails quick, but is very rude. For sure a tough grader. Treats this more of an English class as opposed to beginner speech.
(Online class perspective) There are at least 4 books required for this course. Most of the work comes from the assigned readings. The discussion boards are easy as long as you read. I would say the hardest part is writing the essays. If you put in the effort, you should have no problem. It is important for you to ask questions if you are confused.
This professor gives good feedback on your speeches. This class was consistent of 3 whole speeches that you have to speak of course. It was a little bit easier on zoom than it was in person live. The only thing is that you have to be prepared in advance for your speeches so he can see you and go from there. I really enjoyed this class.
Easily my favorite professor and class so far. Professor Hendrickson is a GREAT instructor, and while his class seemed tough at first glance, it ended up being an enjoyable course as the video discussions and feedback made it as close as possible to feeling like it was still an in-class experience. Sounds wild but the essays are actually fun!
This is one of my favorite classes. The student video discussions were unusual at first but, it really added to the learning experience. Prof. H also gave personalized videos with valuable feedback which was unexpected and really helpful. Lots of reading, 3 essays but he definitely has it set up for student success! Very organized and open minded.
This guy sucks. He teaches like a 10th grade English professor. He makes you do 2 page assessments of your essay & one of your classmates essayridiculous! He takes forever to grade anything you have to turn in. He makes me wish that you can preview their syllabus before enrolling because RMP reviews definitely failed me with this one. Devastating.
This professor is really nice. I took him for philosophy, which is a subject that is boring to me. There are three essays, and as long as you follow the rubric, you should get a good grade on them. There are also three quizzes for each unit, and video discussion posts too. All in all, it was a good class! Make sure you do the reading though!
Professor Paul Hendrickson was hands down my favorite teacher. Philosophy is for the inclined, and an easy A should not be appreciated, but an A is achievable. Work hard, study, and enjoy lively class discussions, and debate with a brilliant professor who is open-minded and works as hard as his students. Seriously, take his class and work hard.
Dr. Hendrickson is an amazing professor. He is always eager to answer questions and takes enough time to explain whatever it is you don't understand. He always gives encouraging feedback on assignments and speeches. He is friendly, funny, and caring. My ENC 1102 professor recommended that I take his class and I'm happy I did.
This professor is very good at responding to emails as well as providing feedback for assignments. The feedback can feel harsh or condescending but in the end it helps the quality of your writing. The topics for your papers are entirely up to you to choose. The required textbook helps a lot since it has example prompts to help you start writing.
Required to have an audience of five adults for the three main speeches you are assigned in this online course. This professor responds to questions very quickly and provides honest feedback. I personally did not use the textbook, especially since he gives his own material (rubrics, readings, etc.) to help you out. Don't skip small assignments.
Professor Paul is a very engaging and responsive professor. His philosophy class was always a place for thought-provoking discussion where everyone's input mattered. He is easy to reach outside class and is willing to answer your questions in great depth/detail. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to study philosophy.
If you put the time and energy into Paul's philosophy class, you will learn so much. The weekly discussions are fun and I enjoyed hearing what my classmates had to say. Paul's lectures are very informative, and he gives good feedback on your work which helps you improve. I would highly recommend his philosophy course to those ready to engage.
His essays are graded pretty subjectively so make sure you understand the way he views things and write your essays off of his views. He give a good bit of feedback so listen and adapt to his thoughts.
Prof Hendrickson was hilarious! I have terrible public speaking anxiety and I enjoyed taking this class with him. He made us all feel at ease and gave great pointers. Before taking this class I could not even do a spelling bee on stage. By the end, I was able to give a 10 minute speech with no problem. Don't be like me and skip a speech... got a C.
Paul is a great professor. He is really understanding when it comes to the nerves that comes with presenting a speech. He only gives about 4 quizzes and the course is pretty easy.
The class was hard due to him expecting us to read an entire book every two weeks. But the professor was very nice and provided video feedback on papers. He wasnt as strict as other professors and would often crack jokes and would comment funny things on our papers that actually helped better understand what was wrong. My fav class of semester.
Professor Hendrickson was wonderful! His class was very difficult and 80% of the class grade was based on 3 papers written throughout the course, but if you can read the material and understand it (which he also helps with by making notes and lectures on the readings), the class can be easy to pass. Overall, I did love this class!
Professor Hendrickson is a fabulous Professor for a subject I had terrible anxiety over. He made the class fun, rewarding and I couldn't be more grateful for his feedback that helped me grow as a public speaker. Strongly recommend. Everyone is nervous about this class, but Dr. Hendrickson made it okay and tolerable.
Prof. Hendrickson was an absolutely phenomenal professor. Not only was he extremely funny, he also gave amazing feedback on essays, as well as provided students with lots of help both in and out of the classroom! He is a decently rough grader, but don't let that deter you from taking his class :)) I highly recommend him!
Dr. Hendrickson is respected by his students; is fair in grading as he wants his students to succeed. His lectures are articulate, filled with humor, & he provides PDF files to assist students in understanding the mechanics of speech writing and delivery. He prepares his students for their future. I strongly encourage anyone to take his classes.
Dr. Hendrickson quickly makes his students feel comfortable in a class where most are extremely nervous. He's sarcastic, witty, and hysterical, but also knows his stuff! He gives very helpful feedback and tells you exactly what's on the quizzes, so pay attention to his lectures! Don't skip any speeches or assignments. I definitely recommend him.
Prof. Hendrickson was very knowledgeable, funny and provided excellent information. His syllabus and grading criteria was very clear, with attendance and participation needed. Attend the class and get the information to complete your papers. Great feedback. Do the work, write your papers and submit them on time you will pass this class.
There is a lot of material covered in this class and Dr. Hendrickson does a masterful job of breaking it down into sections which make it easier to understand. The professor goes above and beyond with products and feedback that help students stay on track and grasp the concepts the philosophers are discussing. Highly recommend.
Dr. Paul is an amazing professor! He was supportive and made it easy to complete assignments. Although public speaking is not the most fun thing to do, the classroom was always super comfortable. As long as you follow his easy step by step instructions and pay attention you will do fine in the course. This goes for his philosophy class as well.
I took Dr. Paul's class in the Spring of 2023. If you put in the work, you can get a lot out of this class. Not only did I learn about philosophy, I learned a lot about myself as well. You might not fully understand all of the readings and lectures right away, but he will give credit as long as you're putting in effort. Highly recommend!
Great conveyance of the course material, as well as the different concepts explored by philosophers. Clear and fair grading with well defined expectations. If you're good with comparing and contrasting, have some introspection, and you can follow instructions, you will do well.
This class was amazing! Professor Paul is caring teacher who cares about his students and tells some philosophy jokes. There were 14 discussions, 3 quizzes, and 3 essays and they weren't that hard at all! I'd definitely recommend taking his class! Even though I was able to do all the writing well, I was happy that I've earned a C.
Dr. Paul was great and I enjoyed his class, but he took forever to grade. He had multiple speech classes so he had upwards of 100 speeches and papers to grade so it took about a month each time to get grades back after speeches. Other than that he's great, easy to talk to, answers any questions, and is interested in you and your speech topics.
While Professor Hendrickson was intense of how he grades his speeches and during lectures it does help you to become a better writer and if you come to class and let him know if you need to extend assignments then he will be easy on you it was a very fun and the most entertaining class I have ever taken in my time here at FSCJ.
Professor Paul is the best. Talks to everyone and is easily the most I've interacted in any class. Only 3 speeches and some quizzes. Grades more on writing than delivery, but to me seemed very lenient in grading deliveries, so don't be nervous. He made it fun to come to class.
He's pretty cool you will need the text book and it is better to come to class because he dose say. lots of stuff that is on the assignments
Absolutely loved his Philosophy class! He was an amazing professor and gave me leeway on an assignment that was due right after I injured my leg. He provided very Indepth and thoughtful feedback on my assignments. 10/10 would take one of his classes again.
In C7 Session, 3 essays, 3 quizzes, 14 discussions. His expectation within the syllabus were clear the essay guidelines too BUT with your rough draft, his feedback becomes very confusing, convoluted, condescending. End of class for our last essay he'd give individual feedback but didn't b/c "time constraints" Very upset I won't know my grade on it.
For much of the semester, Professor Hendrickson really took his time to provide feedback on rough drafts which allowed for improvement before submitting the final essay. However, this feedback was convoluted and hard to understand. Along with that, he is a strict grader, but his criteria seems nearly impossible to understand or meet. DO NOT TAKE.
I had a difficult time with a professor who gave contradictory feedback and accused students of plagiarism without cause. He preferred regurgitating book and lecture information rather than allowing for individual interpretation, which made the class unenjoyable for me despite my love for the subject.
Restricts use of outside resources and unfairly accuses students of plagiarism, showed inflexibility towards personal interpretations of essay prompts. Despite an introductory class, expectations are unreasonably high. Guidance on essays is confusing and grading inconsistent, making it difficult to gauge progress. A poor introduction to philosophy.
Professor Hendrickson's class was the most fun class I took at fscj but also the hardest. Some of the themes and ideas will be new and complex to most people, but Professor Hendrickson always gives instrumental insight into your assignments when graded. Philosophy can be confusing, but Professor Hendrickson makes it understandable and enjoyable.
A challenging course but rewarding! He includes different modes of teaching and is flexible if YOU are putting in the effort! Participation is key.
Dr. Hendrickson is truly one of the best educators I have had thus far in my college career. I took this online and was blown out of the water by his dedication to the students and the course. Every assignment has detailed notes and a lecture made by the professor. IF YOU PUT IN THE EFFORT you will LOVE this prof. His feedback is top-notch. 11/10!
Very thorough and is clearly passionate about what he teaches. Note, his work is heavy he expects a lot each week for very few points. Most points are in the assignments and quizzes. His lectures are detailed. You need to invest the time.
Professor Hendrickson's PHI2010 class was challenging but rewarding. Though the workload was heavy, his thoughtful feedback and engaging lectures made the material accessible. I found Unstuck ai particularly helpful for study prep alongside the course materials.
Paul takes his class too seriously. Each speech has progressively more laborious requirements, with the length at the end being unrealistically high. The lectures were sleep-inducing as Paul details downloading Word every other class as if he's a Microsoft employee. Also hates giving out anything higher than a B as if it goes against his religion.
Paul is a fantastic professor! although his class is very intense when taken with other classes, I enjoyed my time in his class regardless of the credit, I learned a lot through his clear cut teaching and hilarious personality! If you are thinking about taking his class then do it!! you wont regret this class at all! PAUL IS THE GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll rate this professor "OK" and not "awful" because he seems like a nice enough guy, but his expectations seemed a bit high for an introductory course. Deadlines seem to run into each other. As interested as I am in the subject, I ended up dropping it because I didn't see myself being successful in his class while taking courses along side it.
This class was great, and I learned a lot of valuable things. This Professor joins the club of being one of the smartest professors I've had—he clearly knows his stuff and cares deeply about what he teaches. I have a lot of respect for him, and I can honestly say he's the GOAT. That said, he does take this class very seriously.
Dr. Hendrickson is an amazing professor! His class was one of my favorites at FSCJ. He really cares about his students and makes the material clear and easy to follow. He would highlight materials and let us now this is what's going to be on the quiz. He also offers extra credit for attending FSCJ events. And he is really a fair grader.
I took Philosophy and Public Speaking with “Paul” and both classes were outstanding. His lectures are clear, and engaging. The writing workshops were especially valuable and supportive. He truly cares about his students and is always willing to spend extra time to help you improve. I'm grateful for my growth in his classes.
Don't get me wrong, but Paul is great! The class was a little challenging and we've had to do extemporaneously speech in front of the whole class and he offered two extra credits. He is a picky grader when it comes to how we performed our essays and speaking and that's how I ended up with a high "B", instead of an "A". But overall, not a bad class!
Came in loving philosophy, left burned out. The professor turned a promising course into a rigid, joyless mess. Lectures were incoherent, writing had no room for thought, and AI grading hypocrisy sealed it. Instead of deepening my passion, this class killed it. Miserable experience start to finish.
I took his philosophy class during my first college semester. Paul is an overall great professor; however, my biggest pet peeve was that he sometimes made assignments due at 11:59 a.m. instead of 11:59 p.m. As someone with a full-time job, this was pretty frustrating, and of course I ended up missing a midterm assignment because of this.
Do NOT take this professor for intro to philosophy! I don't know where these good reviews are coming from, but he is TOUGH on grading, inconsiderate with due dates, and expectations are just too high for an intro-level course! I dropped the class after a week (thankfully to no detriment to my good academic record or GPA). You have been warned.
