There are not enough words to desribe how horrible his teaching is.
teaches students to where they know what is going on. explains to students in the way that we can understand the math. loves to joke around with his students and he makes math interesting.

This teacher does give you a lot of work, and if you really want to learn you will. He is very helpful, you just have to ask him. Yes he does joke around but who does'nt, otherwise the ones that don't joke around are usually the boring ones.

I am opposed to all the ugly comment about this teacher made on this site. Mr. Hernandez is a great teacher he takes his time to teach you step by step how to solve problems. He does show up late sometimes, but so do some students I know... He gets a big thumbs up from me...

He is not helpful. The homework he gives would be ok if he actually helped us with it and his exams really stink he ask for too much since he dosen't take his time to teach. If you have any trouble with math he is not for you!
this man is the bomb. He is very thorough. Yes, he shows up late, but he teaches at different colleges around town. You try and make it all across San Antonio and be on time. I loved his class..the best math teacher I have ever had. I took two of his flex courses and would recommend him to anyone. DO THE HOMEWRK (XTRA CRDT)& YOU'LL BE FINE!
He explains very well in class by doing math problems slowly step by step. He will not help you outside of class but most of his examples are fine. Take his class only if your willing to go to the math tutoring lab.

Awesome, very specific in lectures. Emphasizes on the impt. things the student should concentrate on. Very clear, understandable to follow. I did all the hmwk and plugged in what I was taught in class and I passed with no less than a B for 0302, & 0303. I used to be horrible at Math. Thank You Mr. H

I took professor Hernandez class in 2002 and he was a good professor, i ran into him in the parking lot to get my grade and he passed me with like a 71 or 73. he is a good professor you just have have to pay attention in class and do your homework. thank you professor hernandez.

I wish I would have read these comments before I signed up for his class. He was always late and didn't even have our assignments up on the website ontime. He wanted me to be happy with a C when I knew I could get an A, with the proper teaching. He loves his ruler and talks too much about the bird in the box. DON'T TAKE IF YOU WANT TO LEARN WELL.
Mr. Hernandez is a good teacher.I never liked math i could never understand it.He did give some encouraging words at the beg.. which gave me hope in passing his class.His tests are exactly the same as the HW turned in.I did not do the daily HW but i did do the HW i turned in over and over He does show up late but that was more time to do other work
Mr. Hernandez is a very good math teacher. He goes over multiple problems in the same subject to make sure everyone has it down. He posts the answers to the homework problems so you can check and make sure you got the methods right. Highly recommend for any math class.
I took his course twice and failed it both times, changed to instuctor and got a B. His material does not follow the book nor do his test. except for the final, if this is your first calculus class find a different instructor. this guy is not worth the effort
very nice teacher. i took him once and didnt pass but it was my fault, he did say make sure you do your homework and turn it in before test day and you will do fine i didnt the first time and failed the second time i did and did well on my test and passed. very kind and willing to help you out. very understanding.
great professor, explains problems step by step and is very thorough with any questions you might have. his tests are pretty easy as long as you do the hw, from which he pulls the test. i had him for cal 1 and 2 so his arent easy classes, but if you put forth the effort you can do well
Prof Hernandez teaching style is good. He doesn't seem to like to be asked questions. If you need to ask questions during class, don't take him. Not very approchable. He's always about 15 min late... maybe thats why he doesn't like the questions. He's okay but if you want more interaction with your professor, he's not the one.
If you actually want to learn something then i suggest not taking this class. He is extremely unclear and comes very unprepared and late to each class.

All I can say is wow, this is by far the worst Math class I have ever taken, he is NEVER on time and seems to be really distracted with other things while in class. I feel that when I would ask questions it would really bother him, like I was wasting his time. Only take him if you are good at math and can handle not being taught :/
I just took him Summer I and yeah he's late EVERYDAY I'm ok in math I kept up with him but when it came down to the time when I wasn't really understanding the math I lived at the math lab instead. He's not helpful and he's sort of rude once I asked him to explain something to me and he said "THIS IS EASY" I didn't take this class cause I knew it.

Worst math teacher I've ever taken. Not helpful at all. Encourages you to stay (not drop) his class and still gives horrible grades. I asked him for help and he said, "The answers are in the back try to figure it out yourself" and he even once said "If I can't figure it out in my head, you can't figure it out" referring to the answer.
Worst Math Teacher EVER!! He is Rude and forget about answering any questions! He IS NOT HELPFUL!! ALWAYS LATE!! His theory is if he cannot figure it out from how you figured it out regardless if your answer is correct...you are wrong! Terrible teacher. Thats whats happens with Tenure. I really didn't enjoy his class, super rude! And would be in the middle of an equation his cell phone would ring and he would jet from the class.
Teacher not worth your time, all homework comes from quests from book and handouts, sometimes his answers are wrong, does not help you much for solving them, late to class everyday, took him 1 week to grade are test, not helping me learn calculus very well, DON'T TAKE THIS FOOL NOT WORTH YOUR TIME! Awful professor - extremely unprofessional. Cannot show up to class on time, cannot grade assignments in a timely manner, cannot respond to emails quickly, and for whatever reason, cannot keep to a schedule in general. At one point he taught something ten minutes before a test (that he arrived late for), and then tested over it. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Not useful at all
I thought this guy was pretty cool and was satisfied with the way things turned out. Im not gonna lie, he put us through the meatgrinder but if you keep up with the homework and go to class everyday you will be ok. Making an A is a definite possibility. If you are not dedicated you will have a hard time because afterall its Calculus (my class).
He is always late to class, and stil hasn't released mid-term grades, that was 4 weksd ago!!
If you pay attention and actually go to class, you will understand. Yes, he's always late and forgets handouts but his classes are fun. He helps out the class whenever there is a question. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit.

Mr. Hernandez is very thorough in his explainations and open for questions. He may rarely be on time for class, but he does a wonderful job explaining things. It is really hard to fail his class. To get a good grade, all you have to do is go to class and pay attention. If you have questions, ask. He doesn't mind. Mr. Hernandez is great!!!
If you have problems in math like I did and as do most people taking 0302 or any other remedial math dont take this class! Mine as well take it online instead of wasting your time and gas to come to campus!! He misses a lot of class and does not respond to emails! He isn't clear on his explaniations and puts everything online instead of explaining
Very rude, not helpful what so ever, does not return emails. Test were 50% of what he skimmed over in class and the other 50% were never covered. Not recommended.
Good professor... Explains step by step. Be ready to take a lot of notes.... Took flex class 0302/0303 passed both with A's
(1) He never responded to a single one of my emails or returned a phone call when I asked for help on homework assignments. (2) He used degrading comments like "If you don't know it already, you will struggle." (3) 80% of the class got help from the Math Lab. (4) Never used the book. (5) Started with 26 students, ended up with 8.
He is very good at explaining everything. I am horrible in math so i took him for a flex 301 and 302 and with his notes and examples i did really good. I liked his class a lot. I did not feel lost at all. If you have trouble in math i recommend his class!
Mrs. Henandez is an excellent teacher.I really learned calculus 2. Handouts help a lot. He explains very well. Just pay attention, do not miss classes and do your homework. It depends on how much time you devote to study. cal 2 is not an easy class.
Took Differential Equations Spring 2013. Professor Hernandez is intelligent man who is slightly disorganized and often tardy. Teaching style is to provide lecture notes/outlines including combination of answer derivations and multiple examples that are worked out in class. Does expect strong knowledge in previous coursework. Incredibly helpful.
took it summer 1. was about the same work as a semester. doesn't email back really but if you call during his office hours you'll get your questions answered. 3 test all at the testing center. uses mathlab. easier than i imagined but not a free A. would take him again.
All his work comes from the my math lab, very little homework. Good teacher.
he never answered my questions, he always gave me sarcastic remarks and if I didn't understand the problem he again gave me a sarcastic remark I didn't learn in his class at all and I had got help from other student who were more helpful.
CON: Disabled the Study Guide in MyMathLab which made no sense since that's primarily how you learn the curriculum. PRO: Can use a calculator for tests, he allowed us to go back and correct homework at the end of the course as well as allowing us to swap out one of our low test grades with our final exam score. Practice tests helped a lot!
Professor Hernandez at the beginning seems like a good professor and in truth he is really nice guy but there is a major flaw in his responsibilities. Professor Hernandez is always lazy to the point where he shows up late to class constantly and he is carries the pace of the class too slow to where he rushes at the end to cover all course material.
I'M TAKING ONLINE MATH, SINCE THIS SEMESTER BEGAN HE NEVER ONCE SENT ACCESS CODE OR INFORMATION ABOUT "ALEKS" TO WORK ONLINE. NOT INFORMATIVE, LACKS COMMUNICATION, AND NEVER RESPONDS TO EMAILS IN TIMELY MANNER.
If youre a person who usually has trouble with math then DONT TAKE HIM. Sure I get the material while in class durings his notes/lecture, but when it comes down to homework and test it's hard. He doesnt go through everything in the homework and gives too much thats time consuming. I would suggest a easier teacher or simply a better teacher

Pros- good guys, nice to talk to and has a personality. Will tell a story in class to help relate the work. Cons- tends to be lazy so is always late to class. Took multiple weeks to grade tests. Office hours? It's a lie, he's never there. Very hard to get into contact with. Dosent seem to want to help. he will also forget to post homework.
If you aren't good with memorizing math methods then i would recommend an easier class if you have the option. This class does require a lot of homework that is weighed 50% of your grade. Exams must be taken at the testing center which are weighed 50% as well. He does respond to emails but one to one help is needed to understand work in my opinion
This professor was just very direct, no second chances kind of guy. I haven't been in school for 5 years, and signed up for his online course for the 1st time. The way he organized where to find the assignments was difficult to find, so I missed the deadline, and just dropped the class. Glad I did after reading these reviews.
He's not a great teacher. He avoids questions, and doesn't go over problem you had in your homework like he said he would. He expects you to copy the notes but that's all you do in class so if you do it at home you are bored in class. I'm glad we have a math lab or I wouldn't be doing so well. I've never had a difficult time in a math class before
This professor is awful. He is TERRIBLE at explaining things and expects you to already know the material. I definitely do not recommend this professor. He typically avoids questions, but when he does care to answer them, he responds in a sarcastic manner. And it's ridiculous because he recommends his students to drop the class. DO NOT TAKE!!

Was very clear in the beginning of the semester as to what he expected of the class and during his lectures made sure to explain all the steps of the problems to ensure all had a full understanding of material. He would not coddle any student if you had trouble he advised you to pursue assistance at the math lab or himself in his office.

He was a horrible professor, wasn't clear when asked questions over email, as well as took a while to reply to emails. Don't recommend him at all, especially if course is online! Seemed as if he lacked knowledge over the subject itself. He likes to take the easy way out, and have you go to the math lab if you need help.

His attitude is surprisingly bad, he's spoken to me in a very ugly manner he's rude and overall I would stay clear of this man. This is all from experience so I hope this helped someone make a good decision.
After several attempts to reach out about conflicting issues on mymathlab, his response was definitely not a normal educators response that cares about whether or not the entire class might have the same issue. Very poor people skills, if he hates being a teacher he should choose another profession. Email responses are untimely, don't take him!!
I took this class and first thought he was a tough professor, but the good kind. Soon after the first test was taken, he graded them and let the ones who passed leave. The ones who didn't were taken up in front of everyone and were criticized and told to drop: "there is no way you could ever pass my class"
Always late, takes too long to grade, sarcastic, and hard to work with. Homeworks were posted late giving us barely any time to work on them. Plus, we had a "review" during finals week after classes had already ended. Totally optional he said. Well he just treated it as another class and taught new material that was going to be on the final!

Pros: Can't think of any Cons: Always shows up late to class, crams material towards the end of every class period, always exceeds class time, test heavy, doesn't give students enough time to take tests, takes too long to grade, posts homework/other material very late, and encourages students to drop his class.
Very hard to follow as a professor, YOU HAVE TO USE HIS METHOD, otherwise, you'll lose pts. Seems clueless and not professional. Shows up late and does not know how to explain more than one way. Tries to act smart by giving history facts, vocab words and life stories that have NOTHING to do with the course. I HIGHLY recommend finding anyone else!
I took this class as a 4-5 week summer course. Mr. Hernandez did not teach anything. Homework and Tests were already developed by My Math Lab. The syllabus was wrong. He was never available and never responded to emails. This class was 100% self-taught. He literally did nothing, not even grade assignments Pearson graded them.
Worst teacher I have ever taken always shows up late! Never answers emails asking for help or questions about any problems. Has everything posted on person and doesn't really teach. You better be at his level because if your not he has nothing for you. RUN from this teacher!!!
This tenured professor does not care and will threaten to fail people a lot. This is a 100% self taught class, he wont help you because he doesn't care. Be prepared to fail because he fial 90% of my class. He also shows up late and no one cares when you report it.
Absolutely terrible, please do not take this class you wont pass. You can be the best mathematician in the world but you have to meet this man criteria. You need a PhD in professor Hernandez mind to pass this course. I barley made out alive with a C, I love math but this course was hard for me.

Mr. Hernandez was such a lazy teacher. I had him for a zoom class, and he was just awful. He never showed up on time, and would often keep us later than what was scheduled. It always felt like he didn't know what he was talking about. Asking for help from him was a chore, and he always made me feel like it was a chore for him too.
Class was online. Never contacted us to solve quations and never replied to emails sent by students. Worst professor ever.
This professor is absolutely awful, do NOT take him. He does not help his students and does things without telling us. I went to him for help numerous times and one of two things happened: either he did not respond or he was very vague. AWFUL professor, do not take him at all.
I failed Mr. Hernandezs college algebra course because of the hodgepodge method, something he made up, didnt teach well, and tested us on. Since it was made up, I was unable to find any help on it online or from others. He was not at all one-on-one and did not care if someone was falling behind.
Do not take this professor! He's late almost every day and keeps you almost 10 minutes after every class. Did not respond to emails until bringing them up in class then gets upset saying to email him about it instead. Uses methods that he made up himself. Gives homework on notes he hasn't even covered. Assignments left and right. Worst class EVER!
Finals week he gave notes and assignments he hardly covered in class. Gave two major tests within the same week along with 2 more assignments. "Printers are cheap", printer and scanner are required, was not cheap. Will not accept your homework if you do not have a printer. Late everyday, keeps you after class everyday. Would not reccomend.
Took the class online with zoom meeting. He was late to almost every class. Is grading did not match the syllabus. The test were 70% of the final grade. Not only he late but never was prepared and always took at least 20 min before we actually started on work.

Professor Hernandez is a rough teacher. He shows up late to class everyday by about 10/20 minutes. Goes over problems that aren't even on the "Test" and gives 2 30 question assignments every week. He a cool guy, but not a great teacher. He goes over what he wants to and when you ask him about problems he will say we will go over it and we never do.

He leaves right when the class is over and this class is attached to a lab so he is supposed to stay after in case anyone needs extra help and he doesn't. Very unwilling to give extra credit and makes students jump through so many hoops just to turn in collective homework assignments. HE LECTURES WAY TOO LONG!!!!!
He's nice, but If you need calc and he's the only one available, wait until the next semester. Couldn't list all the problems within the text limit, but just don't take him. You will regret it.
Professor Hernandez gives great explanations. But, I was graded based on Organization, in math I know right? It was tough to please him in your Show Your Work problems. The exams were nothing like the review.
Honestly if you get this guy drop the class immediately. He doesn't know how to teach and grades very harshly on the show your work, which his standards for change all the time. Everything that has been posted about this professor is the truth! Doesn't teach lessons, uses videos and then the problems on the videos are nothing like the homework. His reviews are nothing like the test, so you are not prepared! Gives two hours to complete test and more then half your test is show your work. DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS!!!
This was the absolute worst class I have ever taken and to top it all of I was dropped without notice for no reason. This professor did not teach at all, lazy, unprofessional, never responded to any of my multiple emails, and then dropped me. Everything written about him here is true and I will be contacting the school because he should be fired.
Haven't taken a math class in almost 2 years, I asked him for help and he didn't help me at all. He said I should already know what is being taught, even though he barely taught at all. This guy should be fired.
DO NOT TAKE. Cal2 online and was horrible. We fell behind on an ONLINE course and had our second test/final in the last week of the 5 week course. He is a harsh grader and wants things very specific(I got points taken off for showing too much work). Also failed to grade our homework when grades were submitted! No clear syllabus but test were online
