50 pts of extra credit available, take advantage of it. Lots of group work, which is not hard just time consuming. Exams are easy if you study the main points and he lets you use a notecard for each. Weekly online quizzes, make sure to read the chapter or you won't pass. Participation is worth 10% of your grade. Take advantage of office hours!
Prof Hillman definitely knows what he's talking about and gets the class engaged. However, no MGT 331 class should have this big of a workload, and I would prefer a boring professor as I've spent more time on this class (between the inconvenient group projects, weekly quizzes, participation, etc.) than my harder 400 level classes. 95% for an A
Great guy! Awesome to listen to and really fun for a 6-9 class. Makes every lecture enjoyable and offers up to 50 extra credits points throughout the semester. Online quiz every week, three exams, one paper (easy), and final project. Relates his business to class content and that helps put things into perspective. TAKE HIM for MGT-331!!
Hillman is amazing! He is easy to talk to, offers a lot of extra credit, and makes the class interesting and engaging. His quizzes can be tricky at times, so read the chapter. Also, take good notes and don't miss class! Be sure to arrive before class starts or you'll get roasted. One main group project, quizzes, 3 competitions, 3 exams (w/notecard)
Awesome Professor. Very Please. Made every aspect of his class entertaining and enjoyable. Lots of Extra credit, tons of group work. Dont be late to his class. One of my favorite professors though.
After reading his syllabus I was very scared. There is a lot of group work, but Hillman really sets you up for success in his class. Participation in class is huge, but his lectures are very entertaining. Taking notes on lectures can pretty much guarantee you an A!
One of the best professors I ever had
Hillman is a great professor. He is very involved in the class. He will learn almost everybodys name before they even come to the first class. Make sure you participate at least once a class, and dont show up late or he will call you out. There is one ongoing group project throughout the semester, as well as team competitions. It is a fun class.
Professor Hillman was an amazing professor who truly cares about his students! Class participation and group projects are the most important parts of the class, if you miss class you will definitely miss out on good content. The exams are very clear as to what is expected. Overall, a class where you definitely have to work for your grade but fun!
Prof Hillman was by far one of the best professors I have had so far at Grand Valley. He cares about your future and is there to help you! A great connection to have.
Funny dude. He was a partner at a consulting firm so he brings a lot of his business knowledge and experience to class. Makes this class a lot harder than it should have been, other professors are are easier but I learned a lot from this course.
Prof. Hillman is great. You will be doing a lot of teamwork on projects, but he keeps lectures interesting and is full of enthusiasm. Requirements can be a bit vague/unclear, but he is more than willing to specify if asked. He is very understanding and willing to consider valid arguments and challenges. He genuinely cares and listens to feedback.
Hillman is passionate about teaching which made the lectures bearable. However, he also makes the class a lot more work than many of the other MGT 331 Professors do. Also, his attendance policy can take a toll on your grade. For example, -5 points for every tardy, -10 for absences. This is frustrating because the material is self-teachable.
Hillman is hilarious which makes his lectures very enjoyable to go to. The class is very interactive and you must be prepared to participate. All of the exams are online and projects are all group work
Professor Hillman is by far my favorite business professor. He is extremely funny and although lectures go up until the end time, they are fun and interactive. The quizzes are easy but you must read. All exams are online and all projects are with your group which makes it easier. Extra credit is given constantly so it saves your grade. Best class!
Such a good professor! He really aims to actually teach students useful things! If you do the work, come to class, and participate, this could end up being one of your favorite classes.
This is my second class with him and I wish I could have taken more! He is a very fair professor and lays everything out clearly. This class was a little easier than my first one since it was mainly a discussion course. But he is very funny and keeps it interesting with his many stories and experience.
Amazing prof! He is a really charismatic guy who knows his stuff, loves his job, and values teaching his students the right way. There are quite a few group project which are easy, exams are easy (study pls), and offers a tonnn of extra credit. I would take him again in a heartbeat!
Heavy class participation is his highest priority, he'll call on you if you're not paying attention, that being said his lectures are both entertaining and genuinely applicable to life. Definitely worth taking if you can keep up with a semi-heavy workload and you'll actually learn a lot in the process!
Paul is by far one of my favorite professors at GVSU. It's so evident he cares about his students and what he is teaching. I had him for a dreadful 6-9pm class and I actually ended up enjoying going to it!? You do have readings, but it's not that bad. Overall I definitely recommend taking him
One of the best professors you will ever have. Genuinely cares about his students and you can clearly see it in his teaching. You have to participate but he does a great job facilitating the discussion. Take his class!
Great Professor. Decent amount of work but the activities are enjoyable and you do a lot of group work.
He puts in a lot of effort to make classes interesting. He's tough about grammar and spelling, but if you use Grammarly and an outside editor as he suggests, it's not too bad. As far as SWS classes go, there isn't too much writing. Participation is a huge part of the final grade, and he makes you work for it.
Hillman is great! He creates a great classroom environment for people to feel comfortable speaking. Participation is big and your grade depends on it, but he gives ample opportunities to earn those points. His lectures are entertaining and he uses a lot of great anecdotes from his experience as a business owner in his lectures. He is very connected
Before the semester, I was dreading this class because it was a 6-9 and his syllabus was intimidating. However, this ended up being the only class I was excited to attend each week. The topics covered are interesting and relevant enough to make you want to contribute and Hillman himself is the kindest prof I've ever had. GV needs more like him.
Professor Hillman is the best, the role plays really do help (although awkward at first.) He gives great feedback on papers and leads good discussions. Is willing to meet outside of class, even if it to talk about non-academic topics. 10/10 would take again.
The Professor has high positive energy, concern to the students achievement, aggressive and creative.
Super interesting class. It is a lot more work than other MGT classes that my peers are in, especially through the >25 pages of unbearable textbook reading a week that is then quizzed on with questions he uniquely creates. Though, he cares a lot about students and has respect for all, to the point that he memorizes everyone's name before day 1.
Hillman is a great professor! He makes ethics as interesting as possible and adds a lot of real-world experience. Participation is mandatory so if you do not like talking in classes I suggest that you don't take him.
Professor Hillman was a real gem! He uses role plays to put you in real business meeting situations which were the most contributive to my learning in my four years of school. He makes ethics interesting through his examples that seem irrelevant, but he always ties them back to the subject at hand.
Professor Hillman is a well respected man in my book. I also took him for MGT 331, but MGT 340 is a lot more chill compared to 331 he does a lot less talking and lecturing. Lectures are important though,so I recommend always attending class. He also provides a substantial amount of extra credit. It is merely impossible to fail this class, take him!
Hillman is a great prof at GVSU, he is straight to the point in his lectures, grading criteria & expectations, & he prepares you properly for the 2 exams. There are 3 books (which you won't read through all 3), 10-15 participation reflections in class, real life cases for the role-plays, and plenty of extra credit opportunities. TAKE HIM.
Hillman was awesome! A lot of work for a pretty simple class but it was all fun and make you learn the material well! One of the best profs I've had at GVSU
Hillman is very passionate about teaching and wants you to participate in the learning process.
Best professor Ive had at gvsu yet!
Hillman is hilarious. Definitely one of the most energetic, caring, and kind professors at Grand Valley with a ton of experience and an honest and veteran approach to the world of business and how important being an effective manager is. The class content wasn't too difficult, however the group project is very time consuming but fun, involving
I learned so much from Professor Hillman! He is the professor you want to take for MGT 331! There are many group projects that are time consuming, but he is a great connection to have and his lectures were very enjoyable and engaging! He really cares about each individual student and I loved that he knew everyones name by the first class.
He's a very interesting professor to listen to, and really knows what he's talking about. He offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit, but his class is a lot of work. You have several group projects throughout the semester as well as a semester-long project, in addition to quizzes for each chapter. If you don't like group work, then drop him.
Take this class. By far the best prof I have ever had at GV. Yes, it is a lot of work, but none of the work is hard and it is such an easy A. Hillman is such a good guy and really wants you to enjoy the class, and he teaches it in a way that makes everything stick. Get a notecard on all exams and offers max of 50 extra credit points. Take him.
Professor Hillman is a great dude! He's funny and makes the concepts of the class easy to remember through the stories he tells and his lectures. He does give a lot of homework and many group assignments. The plus to the group work is that he helps you create a group environment that will allow everyone to participate and meet every week. Great guy
Professor Hillman is one of the most inspirational professors at Grand Valley. He has a strict attendance and participation policy but makes class interesting by not lecturing too long and having us work in groups often. If you have the chance definitely take him!
By far my favorite prof. So far. Hillman does an amazing job teaching the material in an engaging and unconventional way. He does a nice job personally connecting with each and every student. Lots of extra credit opportunities
Professor Hillman is one of my favorite professors. He really took the time to explain that not all group work is bad. He gives a lot of extra credit so its easy to pass. He genuinely cares about his students and is HILARIOUS. He provides real life examples that really helps. Take him if you can!!
My absolute favorite professor I ever had the pleasure to during my time at GVSU. Truly an incredibly smart, caring, and genuine personality. His class is heavily group project based and he'll throw you in certain situations to present when you aren't expecting it. But he gets the best out of his students with the way he manages his classroom.
I loved this class and this professor. Though attendance (and participation) is mandatory, it is not a bad class to attend at all. Your participation is half online and half in class, with PackBack being the site you use for online. Quizzes are almost weekly but are online outside of class. Great professor, great class! Learned a TON!
Easily my favorite class of the semester! Professor Hillman helps makes ethics an engaging, interesting, and fun course. Participation is really important, but its discussion-based both in class and online (discussion boards). He provides many extra credit opportunities too. Professor Hillman is very down to earth and is helpful when you need it!
Hes a great guy. Very knowledgeable and experienced. Never a dull moment in class. Unique and engaging atmosphere. Would take him again without question.
Loved this class! If you are thinking of taking it, do it! This was my favorite class of the semester. There are two books we read with weekly reading quizzes. there is a mid-term and final. Participation is huge but is so worth it as it contributes to learning. Really makes you think about your values! Paul is great!
He was my favorite prof this semester. Don't get scared by the syllabus he just wants to give you all the information upfront. Reading quizzes due just about every other week. You have to participate if you really want to do well in the class. Exams are not that difficult as long as you do the readings and pay attention during lectures.
Best class I have taken at GVSU. Professor Hillman makes his lecturers engaging and interesting. He brings in real world ethical problems through the role plays and not to mention he is hilarious.
The class is a breeze if you attend class, read the assigned reading, do well on quizzes and study for the exams using the lengthy study guide. The in class role-plays seem intimidating but turn out to be kinda fun. Extra credit is offered and is not that difficult, just takes a little time.
This class was one of my favorites at GVSU. It was a strict discussion class, so if you do not like talking in class - do not take with Hillman. The exams are easy and there are only 4 or 5 quizzes. Also, he gives out 20 extra credit points for attending every class.
Professor Hillman can be a lot sometimes but he's a good guy. The class is very participation heavy but he helps you get that grade if you want it. He makes the class interesting which is good. There is a lot of small tasks for homework so it's not too work heavy but he can be a tough grader. He does have multiple extra credits if you need it too.
Professor Hillman's syllabus is extremely intimidating, but don't let that scare you off. The class is honestly a breeze as long as you show up and put in the effort. It actually ended up being my favorite class this semester and I would definitely take it again.
He really cares about his students and you can tell. He doesn't just want you to be a student in the class, he wants to help you in the future as well. He may seem intimidating at first, but he really does well teaching his class. Just make sure you are on time!
Professor Hillman has tons of outside experience and likes to bring it to the classroom. He has classroom role plays and breakdowns of what you participate in. He is a little intimidating when you walk in that first day, but obviously cares about what he is doing.
Professor Hillman keeps each lecture interesting with his humor and is willing and able to help each student. His class is entertaining and I learned a lot of real-life lessons.
Very engaging professor!
Participation is mandatory with Professor Hillman. He assigns some busy work and can be hard to please when it comes to papers. A really sweet, goofy and charismatic guy. Class flies by with him because he always keeps it interesting. An easy A if you're willing to participate.
Professor Paul Hillman is a great professor and does a lot of hands on role play with scenarios. This is a great way to learn the content you are talking about!!
I wish every college professor was as caring as Professor Hillman. He has been my favorite professor so far at Grand Valley. He provides real-life examples regarding business ethics. We do a lot of roleplays in groups which have been my favorite part so far. The one thing I would warn is he has a TA grade the papers, and she grades super hard.
I took Professor Hillman two semesters in a row. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in his classes. He is really relatable and so easy to talk to! He genuinely cares about the students in his classes and wants to help them work for their grades. Participation and attendance are his end all be all, but it's worth it! Lots of extra credit
Amazing prof. Take him if you can! His tests are hard and he expects you to participate. I do not think you should drop if you feel like you won't participate because Prof Hillman will make you feel like your voice matters in the classroom. Very helpful and genuinely cares about his students and their wellbeing. Also, don't skip class.
Hillman does a good job of keeping students interested and engaged during lectures. Sometimes his stories go on too long. He's very harsh on grammar with assignments and will fail your assignment solely off of that. Skipping class is not an option because he will assign reflection sheets based off the activities that happened in class that day.
I've had Professor Hillman for two different classes, MGT and BUS Ethics. Not only does he teach the class, but he prepares you for the real world. For example, DON'T BE LATE! Or you will be picked on for the rest of the day. It's better to freely participate than wait to be called on. He's super funny and offers lots of extra credit!
Funny guy, I took him as a 6-9 class and it was honestly fun and engaging. You will need to respond in class and pay attention but that really isn't hard as he gives great lectures. He assigns busy work each week but it is easy and he offers lots of extra credit if you need it. You will need to show up for every class, participation is a big part.
I had Professor Hillman for ethics, he is a great professor and has lots of real-life knowledge! He can be a bit intimidating at first but don't let that make you drop the class! He is a great professor and the class isn't too difficult. His class is very interactive and participation is a big part of your grade. He does offer lots of credit!
Professor Hillman is no doubt a difficult professor. His class is challenging and participation is downright mandatory. However, I would take his class again. He is a great source of real-world knowledge and spent many years in business. He tries to make the class interesting through real-world situations. It is a challenge but it is worth it.
Professor Hillman is great for ethics and really understands what he is talking about. Yes, participation in class matters, but it keeps you engaged and can be only once a class. Hillman is the top professor for MGT 340
Great professor. His class is stimulating and engagement is a must. Attendance and participation are absolutely necessary.
Professor Hillman is one of the best professors Seidman has to offer. He creates an incredibly engaging classroom. For someone who normally sits back and just listens, I was surprised how easy it was to participate and stay engaged. I would recommend him to anyone in need of fulfilling an ethics requirement.
Good Professor, upfront about everything so there is no confusion. This was also an SWS class and he grades harshly but he also tells you that at the beginning of the semester. Plenty of extra credit opportunities if desired. Biggest thing for this class is to show up for every class and participate freely, no points for being called upon.
Professor Hillman is by far my favorite professor i've ever had. He is strict and hard sometimes, but it is just because he genuinely cares. He is hilarious & makes every class interesting & relavent. Really stretches your thinking every class. Exams are tricky, study the book & quizzes and you'll be fine. LOVED THIS CLASS
Professor Hillman is my favorite professor at GV. I have had him twice now and would take him again and again if I could. His class is so fun and engaging. Lectures are not heavy, he teaches out of real life experiences which is helpful. You have to come to class and cannot be late! Great guy and a great guy to get connected with. LOVE HIM
Must participate to pass. Type of class you cannot skip. Lots of ways to get points and extra credit. Lots of role playing and debates so must be willing to engage in this class.
Professor Hillman was a great professor. He truly cared about his students learning. Get the book, we only ended up using one of them but it was very important to have for lecture and to do the reading quizzes. He's very straight forward when it comes to what is important and what will be on the exams.
Best professor I've had at GV. He made a 6-9 SWS on ethics extremely entertaining, which honestly is very hard to do. Genuinely cares if his students are actually learning something and has plenty of real-world experience that is relevant to the course. I have nothing bad to say about Hillman, although his April Fool's joke was cruel
I was a student of his during the infamous COVID-19 epidemic so classes were shifted to online while the semester was well underway already. He did a good job handling this for the most part. He is really picky about your writing on essays but there are plenty of extra credit options. You won't get away with being a mute in this class also.
Hillman is the best professor at GV! His class is super engaging and he has very valuable real-life experiences to add to the class. He will make a 6-9 fly by. He prepares you well for the tests and exams. The book that you read in class is actually very interesting. I recommend taking him!
Entertaining professor that really cares about his students. If you have to take Ethics, this is the best professor for it!
Very good class with a very enthusiastic teacher. A little homework to do but they are very interesting. What I preferred most was the debate over the trolley car.
Good guy. Experienced. A little over the top on being on time and whatnot. There is busy work, but it can sometimes be enjoyable. Go to class and its an easy pass.
Professor Hillman is one of the best profs at GV. The structure of his class is carried out by meaningful discussions. Professor Hillman's classes will develop a student in both professional and personal aspects of life. Highly recommend!
He's not shy about sharing his opinion and possibly offending you in the process so don't be afraid to do the same. Overall, he's a really good professor and he makes it easy to learn the material all while sitting in class. A little bit of reading and reading quizzes, but easy. Tests are all quiz questions plus some.
Professor Hillman is a true business professional. He used to own his own consulting firm so he is able to bring BETTER insights that other Grand Valley professors simply do not have. Show up to class, engage in conversations, and speak your mind and you'll do great. Business Ethics is a scary topic but Professor Hillman makes it very bearable.
I truly loved Professor Hillman's class, I'm taking him again next semester even though it's an 8:30 class (that should show you how great he is). He cares about his students and he's hilarious. He bases 30% of your grade on class participation and is very tough on grammar. But it doesn't matter in the end because this will be your favorite class
Professor Hillman is a great prof who genuinely cares about our education. He is a little bit intimidating at first because his grading structure for the class is based heavily on participation (30%). However, it is something that you get used to because he creates a class environment where you will feel comfortable participating.
Hillman was a great professor. He really gets you invested into ethics and make you think about your personal values. He doesn't like when students are tardy, but he'll give you one or two warnings before it affects your grade. Overall, he's a funny guy, good lecturer, and he's very easy to talk to. He'll make fun of you but don't take it personal.
Professor Hillman is one of few professors that can keep a class engaged for all 3 hours of a 6-9. He is great at tying things into real-world experiences that we will probably all encounter in the workforce. Overall a good class and good professor, make sure you know what is due and when it is due.
Be prepared to participate in every class.
Attendance is super important and that includes being on time. The class is participation heavy so you have to be prepared to talk and contribute in class. He loves dishing out the other opinion so you have to be prepared to defend your point against him. He grades writing assignments as if the class is an SWS.
Prof. Hillman is one of those "love him or hate him" professors. He's very strict on his policies and has a very hands-on way of teaching; I believe that this has greatly contributed to my learning and understanding of material. Hillman is my favorite professor by far! If you're interested in learning in a fun way, take him. You won't regret it!
He likes to hear himself talk, which has its upsides and downsides. Grading of essays is very meticulous regarding grammar and punctuation, but those assignments were rare in my course. The most important thing is to participate in class and show up on time. If you mess up on an assignment, there are extra credit opportunities. I recommend this guy
Attendance AND participation is a must to pass! Lots of reading but great professor! You learn lots.
Professor Hillman is easily one of the best professors I've had at GV. He can be a tough grader and you're required to be on time to his classes or be penalized, but it's easy to look past that. He's very accessible outside of class and is very easy to talk to. I would jump on the opportunity to take another class of his no matter what it would be.
Professor Hillman can be a little much to handle, but he cares about his students and their success. The syllabus is about ten pages long, but it is mostly useful. Some lectures were nice with interactive class activities, but some we would just watch videos of a Harvard professor. Grades everything like an SWS class.
So many opportunities for extra credit. Tough grader at times and tests were pretty hard but assignments and discussion threads are easy points. Would take Hillman again in a heartbeat- he really cares and is super enthusiastic about the class and keeps class as fun as he can.
Professor Hillman is definitely someone I would recommend to anyone as he is a good professor.
Prof. Hillman was truly one of my favorite professors, his class is a very participation heavy class but it is in a very low pressure environment. You can tell he really cares, and even though it was a 6 to 9 I never felt like going was a waste of my time.
Professor Hillman is a great professor. His enthusiasm makes the class enjoyable. However, attendance and participation are a must.
Getting the books are not necessary since all of the quiz answers are online
Prof. Hillman does a fantastic job of keeping students engaged and makes the class enjoyable. I take the night section and it was the liveliest night class i have taken. Show up on time, participate a little bit and do the work and you will get an A.
Professor Hillman brings experience from the real world into his class. You will not regret taking this class with him. As long as you do the work and show up to class you will get a good grade. This class has a lot of role plays which do not sound fun at the beginning but you will get used to them and you will begin to enjoy them.
He's okay but if you're thinking this class is going to be a breeze and an easy A class like you've heard, dont take it w/ him. He is very group project based the whole semester and there's a lot of unnecessary projects with hard grading criteria. He's the only prof that teaches this class like this, so if this sounds bad to you take another prof.
CAN NOT write test questions. He need to learn a thing or two for the College of EDU on how to write tests and how to give our rubrics for all of his assignments. He makes thing unnecessary difficult. In class he's energetic with his lectures and know his stuff. Over all if you want a hard time for no needed reason avoid this man
One of the best teachers for remote classes. He taught my section of 30 students online while having 10 students in the classroom and it was great. Reading quizzes and discussion boards due each week. A couple reflection sheets and two exams using lockdown browser. Lots of extra credit opportunites to help you get a good grade.
Hillman has the biggest personality of any professor I've had yet!! He cares about his students, but if you're a sensitive person I would re connsider. You work in your group the entire semester on 3 "competitions" and one final project due at the end. Quizzes every Sunday to make sure you read the chapters too. May sound like a lot but its college
Hillmans a GREAT PROF definitely take him for whatever he is teaching. He likes you to participate so basically just say anything during class even if it doesn't make any GD sense. Make sure you buy the book as his tests are basically based on that. Not a big book and easy to read.
He is an awesome professor, very caring, and wants you to succeed. The class is heavily centered around group work, so DO NOT TAKE HIM if you do not like that. There is typically one quiz per week with some reading, occasionally some smaller projects on the side, and a semester-long group project. He offers lots of EC so take advantage of it.
Professor Hillman is a really good professor who has a lot of knowledge and real world experience. His class can be a lot of work at times, but you honestly learn so much from it. The exams honestly weren't too bad either. Overall, a really great prof who cares about his students success and has a lot of knowledge to give!
Great class discussions, fun to participate and energetic class environment, be ready to be called on, gives real world examples through role plays and his past career experiences
Prof. Hillman is one of the best Profs I've had at GVSU. I would take him for every class if I could, I had him for 2 already. You are required to participate in class more than you are probably used to for points, but every class is a discussion, so it's easy. Exams are extremely straightforward from your assignments, and TONS of EC points.
Professor Hillman is a good professor and has a lot of real-world knowledge and experiences to share. Although his class can be a lot of work at times, you learn a lot from it. The exams honestly were challenging but I had to take them over Respondus. He does set you up to succeed.
Hillman is a great prof and really knows what he's talking about. He tells stories that relate to class and are fun to listen to. There are a bunch of reading quizzes but they aren't hard if you read the book and the exams just take questions from those quizzes for the most part. There are group competitions and one giant group project, but its fun
If you don't like working in groups, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! On the other hand, these group projects were so much fun and the best group experience I've had in 16 years of being in school. Hillman is a character but is always making sure that your participating and understanding the content.
Very knowledgeable about the field of study and is very organized with class material. You have to participate every class for credit so be prepared. You also must make sure you show up to class or else you will not pass. Very interesting conversations, projects and real life examples. Helps prepare you for the business world.
I took Hillmans class for my ethics class my last semester of college. Please sign up for your ethics class with him! It was my favorite class my senior year and it was not boring at all for being an ethics class. Attendance is mandatory but I've missed a few and it has not affected my grade. There is also a ton of extra credit opportunities!
Professor Hillman puts a big emphasis on team work and group projects that take awhile. However he offers a lot of extra credit and the exams aren't to hard if you study. His lectures are pretty entertaining and not boring.
Hillman is a fair professor who wants his students to succeed. He gives you everything you need to know for the exams through lectures and some reading from the book - so go to class and take notes. He's big on voluntary participation and gives extra credit opportunities.
Very interactive class. Very hard on grading. Must participate and show up un order to pass.
He did a great job teaching this class. He is pretty outgoing which makes the class more enjoyable. He gives extra credit for attending every class. Participation is a good chunk of your overall grade too so be ready to answer questions and be engaged. He also has several easy extra credit opportunities.
He is my favorite professor at GV (my second time taking him). He grades heavy on participation but makes the points very easy to get. I think he tries to challenge us in a very reasonable way. He is good at relating assignments to real-life/gives excellent examples. I also enjoy how quick he is at responding to emails. If you can take him, DO IT!
Professor Hillman is by far the best professor I had at GV. He makes you work for your grade. Go to class!! He gives you numerous extra credit opportunities during the semester. The exams can be somewhat hard but not to the point where you are pulling out your hair. You get to use one index card for the exams. I highly recommend taking him!
Professor Hillman was amazing, if not the best professor I have had at GV yet! I will admit, the syllabus made me a little nervous going in but it was not bad at all. I looked forward to going to this class every week and the material always captured my interest. I learned a lot from this class and would 100% recommend it.
I was intimidated at the beginning, but Professor Hillman ended up being one of the best professors that I have ever had. He is big on participation which ended up being the best part of the class; the teamwork was engaging and enjoyable. Students feel comfortable participating which makes class fun. Many EC opportunities & always willing to help!
You have to go to class and participate. I don't always love his lectures or dumb jokes, but he is funny sometimes and always in a good mood. I would take an afternoon section. Expect to be surprised by what comes out of his mouth he might seem silly, but don't slack he will not have mercy.
Professor Hillman was one of my best professors at Grand Valley. He is the goat. He made his expectations very clear, and while he is strict, he gave great incentives to doing your work. His lectures were very engaging and dynamic and he requires participation. The class is entertaining, engaging, and one of my favorite classes to attend.
One of the best profs out there! He definitely comes off as intimidating, but it's just because of his high-energy teaching and his desire to make his students succeed. Participation matters for sure, and he will push everyone to participate. His material ties everything you learn to real-life situations you might face. 10/10 recommend this prof.
Prof Hillman is hands down the best professor in the business school. He truly cares about every student and their learning. His class is the only class i have learned something in since covid. His lectures are never dull because of his enthusiasm and dad jokes. I wish I could take every class with Hillman as my prof. Get him if you can!
Professor Hillman is one of the better professors I have ever had. He really wants his students to succeed and know the material for its own merit. Attendance is strict, but if you put genuine effort into the class you will be rewarded with extra credit opportunities. He makes lecture very engaging - which is saying a lot because I took his 8:30!
Professor Hillman's class may seem intimidating while looking at the syllabus, but he offers a lot of extra credit (up to 50 points). As long as you show up to class and put in the effort, you'll do fine in this class. He was one of the only professors who really seemed to care about their students and prepares them for the real world. 10/10 class!
This is a really fun class and Professor is funny and engaging. Unlimited EC so if you put in the work, anyone can get an A. He will make you work for it however and if you don't enjoy participation, maybe shy away.
This professor is a great lecturer. If you do the readings, the lectures strongly reinforce what you have covered. This is cause for good outcomes on the exams and competitions that he holds.
This is a super fun class. Hillman may be intimidating, but he means the best and will do anything to help you do well. Tons of extra-credit aswell.
Attendance is mandatory, as is participation. Lectures are very engaging. The group you get is yours for the semester so get to work early on the project stuff. Gives tons of extra credit opportunities. Best professor I've had at GV so far, highly recommend Hillman as long as you are at least a little bit comfortable speaking in class.
I had had professor Hillman before, but this class was so much better than 331, it was entertaining and filled with role plays and class discussions to keep us engaged and learning. Overall, tests were easy and extra credit opportunities were everywhere. Professor Hillman is an awesome professor and I'd recommend both him and this class to anyone
This class was very time consuming and requires a ton of effort from you and everyone in your team/group. Sometimes you will have exams, group projects, and other assignments due in a week. You have to rely on others to do well in this class. Tests are decently easy. Attendance is a grade and is mandatory. Participation is also a grade.
Professor Hillman made me want to go to class everyday. You have a lot of opportunity to earn points back with extra credit assignments and the role plays will make learning concepts easier and you will retain them longer.
Professor Hillman teaches an awesome course. He really makes this ethics class his own the activates you do in class. Roleplays and other surprise activities throughout the year make you want to come to class. He's more than fair with grades and just wants to see that you put effort in. I would 100% take him for any class i could.
I am now in my senior year at GVSU and I would say hands down that Professor Hillman is perhaps the finest professor I have ever had. The class is not an easy A, but with how well he teaches the material it might as well be. Hillman genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them succeed not only in the classroom but in life.
Professor Hillman provided a great class in which it is a mix of team effort, lecture and tests and quizzes. Everyday he brings a great amount of energy into the classroom. Participation in class is mandatory, tests are a little tough, although there is 50 points of extra credit available which gives you some cushion on your final grade.
You actually learn a lot from this class, 4 group projects: 3 small and one large semester long one, LOTS of extra credit opportunities, attendance matters, great professor with interesting lectures that keep your attention. Quick to respond to emails. Id definitely recommend and am planning on having him for another class.
Professor Hillman is a great engaging professor. He has an engaging lecture and keeps class interesting with jokes. His material isn't hard, it is just very time consuming but if you put in the work you will end with an A for sure. He also offers a lot of extra credit.
I've had Professor Hillman for the past two years now and is a great professor. He doesn't read off the slides and engages with every student. Participation is mandatory and he offers a variety of extra credit opportunities. Text books are required but they don't cost much. I highly recommend you take him as he is one of the best professors I had.
Professor Hillman really cares about his students and also wants all of his students to do well in his class. Throughout the entire semester, you work in teams, completing 3 total competitions and 1 semester-long project. He also offers plenty of extra credit if you are not happy with your grade, like offering 20 points for perfect attendance.
Professor Hillman is one of my favorite professors I have had so far at GV. He makes lots of jokes during lectures and keeps lectures interesting. Participation matters and there is a lot of work in this class but he gives opportunities for extra credit! He is also very accessible outside of class and responds to emails fast.
Paul Hillman is one of the most devoted professors I have had at Grand Valley. The first day he memorized all the students names and puts lots of effort in every lecture. There is one book that is less than 20$. You get 20 points EC if you show up to every class (can't miss any for any reason). Make Quizlets throughout the semester to ace exams.
Prof Hillman is a great teacher and gives many real-world examples during his lectures that help you remember and apply the material. Overall it is a great class that isn't too challenging and interesting to go to.
You will be doing a group project with competitions all semester alongside the coursework. Hillman is a hilarious professor with lots of industry experience so you'll learn a lot about consulting. Highly recommend this class!
Professor Hillman is honestly one of my favorite professors at GVSU. I actually have learned the most about what he teaches more than I have in any other class. There is a lot fo information thrown at you but he makes it applicable in a fun way. Be ready to collaborate in groups and talk. It is in a fun way though don't let that scare you.
Best professor I have ever had. Super engaging and funny, he made what could be a really boring class really fun and exciting. I learned a lot. You will be laughing during this class, and you will be doing lots of activitiesnot just staring at a PowerPoint and zoning out. It is impossible to zone out in this class. 100/10
Professor Hillman is one of, if not my #1 favorite professor at GVSU. Even though my class time was 8:30am, it was my favorite class this past semester. He makes every class very engaging and also interesting. Participation & attendance are mandatory, but I believe he knows that's for the best. One of a few classes where I don't watch the clock.
I have taken Paul Hillman twice now and I highly recommend taking his class. He does make attendance mandatory but gives extra credit for having perfect attendance + has more extra credit opportunities. Lectures are not boring and exams are not the easiest but also not the hardest, i am a bad test taker + still end up with great grades.
Hillman is amazing. Participation and attendance is mandatory. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities. The class is structured with a semester long project & 3 mini competitions with your group so if you hate group work beware, it wasn't horrible. Expect weekly quizzes from reading the book. He makes his lectures interesting and fun
Hillman is great! Very strict on attendance and keeps track of participation so if you don't like to speak in class this class isn't for you. He offers a ton of extra credit throughout the semester. The lecture portion was okay, could be a little more structured but they're fine overall.
Professor Hillman is very personable and cares for how well we do in class. He does have a strict participation requirement but that's because he wants engagement in the class and not him just lecturing to us. He also has us do role plays which aren't as bad as I initially thought. He also offers plenty of extra credit. Good funny teacher.
Professor Hillman is awesome at what he does. This guy can be a bit of a stickler about attendance, but you'll quickly realize that you don't even want to miss his class. I found myself excited to go to his class every time. You get to work through a lot of exercises and discuss your opinions with the class and it keeps everything interesting.
Professor Hillman teaches his class like theater. That is the best way I can describe him. He is very interactive with all students, everyone gets engaged. We are all made to feel very comfortable right away, the way we vote for certain situations being talked about. Professor Hillman uses role-plays to get us to understand ethical dilemmas better.
Professor Hillman has been my favorite professor over my 3 years at grand valley. He has so much experience and uses that to benefit our learning through his lectures and the role plays done in class. I HIGHLY recommend taking him as a professor, you will not be disappointed!!!
Hillman is fantastic, super energetic and cares about his classes. Participation matters in this class, but it is super easy to get your points. There is so many extra credit opportunities to take advantage off. The lectures and role plays are so fun to be apart of. Take him if you can.
BEST PROF EVER! Not too lecture-heavy. Provides AMAZING real-life scenarios for role plays (they're so much fun, don't be scared by them!) He is part of the reason why I want to go into personal behavior in the workplace. You will have zero regrets. He genuinely believes in his students and wants us all to succeed. Most encouraging prof I've had!
I have always strayed away from RAMP because you never know what kind of student is writing the reviews, so I don't always trust them. I can promise you, every good review left for this professor is from all kinds of students and they're all great. I've never had a more fun and entertaining professor in all of my years here at GV.
The best professor in Seidman. If you haven't taken him, you need to. I have never met a professor that cares so much about his students. Offers 50 extra credit points a semester, tells a lot of dad jokes, responds to emails within 10 minutes unless he's teaching, has engaging lectures. Attendance is mandatory and so is participating.
Probably one of my favorite professors here at GV. He makes learning the material fun and engaging, you are always moving around or interacting with other students which I like. This class is heavily based on participation but it is not hard to receive those points at all! Hillman is funny and is the kind of professor that wants to see you succeed!
Professor Hillman is one of the best professors I have had at GV. He makes his expectations very clear and provides an equal opportunity for each student to be successful in his course. The syllabus provides a lot of information so it may be overwhelming but don't let that scare you as he explains it very well in class. Overall his class is great!
Take the class. Unless you absolutely hate participating in class, I didn't participate much and I'm still going to get a good grade. He's an engaging professor, he knows every student and cares about your success. I would take a class with him for all 5 courses if I could, easily my favorite professor I have had at GV.
Professor Hillman is easily the best professor I have ever had in college! He cares about his students and wants to ensure that each and every one of them is understanding the given topics. His lectures are unique which sparks great debates in the class. 100% would take again!
I would recommend this class to anyone! Professor Hillman's lectures are very engaging. You are required to participate a ton, but he makes it a safe space to do so. He also offers a ton of extra credit opportunities and his exams are pretty easy if you study. Take this class before you graduate!!
By far the best professor I've had. If you do the work you are almost guaranteed a good grade and he keeps the class super involved in what he is teaching. If I could take Professor Hillman for every class I would!
Professor Hillman is a great professor. If you do the work then you will get an A. Hes very caring and really wants you to succeed. He will be there for you in and out of class!
This professor does an excellent job of engaging his students and keeping his lectures interesting. There are lots of extra credit opportunities along with a large group project. He is funny and is willing to meet with students outside of class. I feel like I learned a lot in his class and I highly recommend him to other students.
Professor Hillman was a good professor. The whole semester is almost all group work and that may sound awful to some, but he holds every group member accountable and goes about groups differently than other professors. This class is more work than a lot of other classes I have taken but lectures kept me engaged and I still did well in the class.
In this class attendance and participation are mandatory and it will definitely effect you negatively if you do not show up. He explains the concepts very thoroughly in class and I find it easy to follow along with them. In class he does things called roleplays where you act out a scenario within a small group, is fun and helpful in learning.
Expect to be at every class, but Hillman's class was great. He finds ways to get everyone involved in his lectures, and rather than just reading off of slides, actually teaches you. He is funny, and his classroom has a comfortable feeling to it. His class is not that easy, you will need to put in work to get a good grade, but it is not that hard
Professor Hillman has by far been the best professor I have had. Going to class and participating is a must, but he makes you actually want to be there. You have the same group the entire semester. He does in class simulations of scenarios, and we always look forward to them. You will learn a lot and will be able to apply it to the real world!
Hillman uses a variety of ways to teach his students as he understands that everyone learns differently. If you are willing to attend class, participate, and do the very reasonable homework assignments you will succeed!
Professor Hillman's enthusiastic nature makes the course lectures easy to follow. He's really good at incorporating the class as he talks. You are required to participate, but it isn't that hard. You have assigned groups at the start of the class in which you work for the semester. Overall, great class and a great professor.
I did not think I would like this class initially. Attendance is a must and we worked with a group all semester long. If you go to class and do your work, you should expect a high grade. As the semester went on I realized he is not as tough as a professor as he makes it seem. He is always willing to help and wants you to succeed.
Professor Hillman is the best prof I've had at GV. It is not an easy class, you have to put in a lot of effort, show up to class and participate, and meet weekly with a group that you do not get to pick. However, I learned so much and actually looked forward to going to class each week. His lectures are engaging and it is useful information!
The best professor I've had at GV. He is the only professor that keeps me tuned into a lecture since he facilitated in-class activities instead of just reading off a powerpoint the entire period. The exams are a little tough, but if you go to class, listen, and participate, you will do well. He also gives a lot of extra credit. Take him!
Prof Hillman was one of the best profs I have had at GV. His lectures are so engaging and I never felt bored in class. He has you do activities with the class and forces you to think about your choices. Will make you learn things about yourself and the things you learn are valuable for life!
I cannot stress this enough...TAKE THIS CLASS WITH PAUL. I've never had a more mentally stimulating and fun class in my life. I was excited to go to this class every day, not a single day was boring. Paul knows how to teach a class very well. His enthusiasm and humor will brighten your day. I wish I had him as a prof for every single class. TY PAUL
What a fantastic course! When concepts are applied to the real world, I am able to grasp them much more easily. We don't just study ethics; through practice, we come to understand our own moral perspectives. He turns everything we study into a game. I dont typically raise my hand but I had a great time contributing to the discussion in this one.
Definitely take this class! Great professor, very enthusiastic, and teaches class in a fun way, doesn't just lecture.
I was scared at first with this being a discussion based class. You are graded on participation and attendance, but do not let this scare you away. Hillman is one of the best teachers I have had at Grand Valley. Period. Two Exams, kinda hard but study lectures and old quizzes and you will be fine! TAKE HIM
Professor Hillman is the best Professor I've had at GV! He understands the content, but better than that is how he applies what we learn in the class to the real world. And it's not like other courses where he'll go on and on about The Challenger Explosion or Enron. Students will apply what they learned in the class via Roleplays of True Events.
Professor Hillman is a dedicated instructor who challenges his students in ethics. Though exams are tough, he offers extra credit opportunities to help boost grades. His engaging teaching style and commitment to student success make him an exceptional professor!
BEST PROF EVER. I really wish every professor taught the same way that Paul Hillman does. Although he is strict in attendance, I look forward to going to his class each week because he makes it so fun. He cares about his students and wants to see them succeed, as long as they are willing to put in the work too.
Professor Hillman is a great guy. He is passionate about business ethics which makes the class very enjoyable. Role plays are very fun and collaborative. Give lots of opportunity for extra credit and makes its easy to achieve a good grade.
This class was good. I loved the lectures and they were very interesting and fun, but the group work was overboard. So many things to do on top of the normal school work. You had to meet every week outside of class in person for a minimum of 30 min. and there were so many things to do and he is very very picky. He did give the best lectures ever.
Hillman is a great Professor with engaging lectures. Be prepared to participate in class as it is a decent portion of your grade. He offers so much extra credit which is necessary because this class can be difficult. You are assigned a group early on and must meet with them every week. Although this class was a lot, Hillman is the best professor.
He's a great professor who knows what he's talking about. His class is very engaging and interesting. The roleplays are really fun and the workload isn't too bad. If you want a class you can skip then this class isn't for you as he grades on participation.
This wasn't my favorite class because management does not interest me. the class is extremely group project and lecture heavy and takes up a lot of your time. Prof Hillman makes it seem as if this is the only class we're taking and that nothing else matters.
Hillman is a great professor who cares about the success of his students. His lectures are very informative with lots of real-world examples to get your brain stimulated. Attendance is mandatory and you will need to participate in his class if you would like to receive a good grade. The roleplays are fun and give real-world knowledge to learn from.
A lot of work but Professor Hillman teaches in a way where you want to learn.
Professor Hillman knows what he is talking about. The examples he provides in class help you understand the content. Take advantage of his extra credit opportunities and work hard on the group project. Exams can be hard, however, I went to him to go over the first exam and he truly helped me understand my mistakes and how I could do better.
My favorite professor/class I've gotten to take at GVSU. Covers ethics requirement! Lectures are so engaging, fun, and thought-provoking. Genuinely cares about his students. Only 2 exams - both around 20-25% of grade. Opportunity for a lot of extra credit. Participation/attendance count, but he makes it easy! Highly recommend, you won't regret it.
Professor Hillman makes the class as interesting as he can. I feel like ethics is something that gets covered here and there but this class goes into different ethical theories. Come to class or you will not pass, participate when you can, and have an open mind when it comes to the ethical role plays in the class. Overall fun class.
Professor Hillman is definitely an interesting character. He does not beat around the bush and says what he thinks. He's a good leader and explains the material thoroughly. He'll know your name by the first class, so expect to attend regularly.
Participation counts which made me hesitant because I am more of a listener than a talker. But, I am so glad I took this. The lectures were interesting, engaging, and funny. I highly recommend this class, even if you don't like to talk much. Because in reality, at some point in your life, you are going to need to be able to talk with people.
You will for sure learn in this class. It is not an easy A. If you go to class you will be rewarded. You will have to talk and participate in this class. Paul Hillman will make sure that you learn, and he will most likely know every students name by the end of the first class. I was skeptical when I first had him as a teacher, but he was great!
Professor Hillman is actually a good professor, 10/10 would take any class he teaches. Just a heads up, attendance is mandatory and the exams are a bit ridiculous because you end up losing points for incorrect answers. This causes you to lose extra measly little points which drop your exam grade.
I would say that Prof. Hillman is a decently tough professor just based off all the in-class participation and reading for all the chapters. But he is a very passionate professor with a lot of experience and knows how to teach the class well.
Not the prof. for everyone but I thought he was amazing. Take advantage of all the EC he gives as it helps out in the end. Go to class & participate in discussions as it hurt your grade if you don't. Clear on what he expects from students and doesn't take excuses. 2 exams, usually 3 items weekly. Exams are hard but do the EC and you will be fine.
He is the best professor I have ever had. He is a tougher grader, but I learned so much in his class. He offers extra credit if you never miss a class. His lectures go by very smoothly. He does force participation by giving incentives. I took him for MGT 330 and 340. If I could take him again in the rest of my time at GVSU, I would 1000% take him.
Professor Hillman has been my favorite teacher. This class requires you to participate (raise your hand), but it has made me come out of my comfort zone. We also did multiple role plays in small groups that were so fun- not as scary as they seem! You only get 2 absences before he takes points off, but he offers so much extra credit! Take him!!!
Professor Hillman is one of my favorite professors at Grand Valley. Participation is important but the topics and class discussions make it easy to want to participate. The role plays that we do in class are intimidating at first but end up being fun and engaging. He offers many extra credit opportunities as well and overall is a great class!
This class by Paul Hillman was one of the most engaging classes I have been in, he puts more work into the actual content itself than all my other classes together. He makes some of the content himself and tries to improve it. You need to participate here, which is not hard since he is engaging, and you have to show up or he might make fun of you.
I learned a lot in this class, but a downfall is participation points. Also, the exams are extremely hard, but the extra credit really helps.
Professor Hillman genuinely cares about every one of his students. Although the exams can be difficult, the exam review gives a good layout of the content of the exam. There are many extra credit opportunities available that are pretty simple to complete, and they help your grade quite a bit. Overall, he is a fantastic professor.
Hillman is a great prof! He is very energetic and he makes class very engaging, which made me actually want to pay attention/participate in class. His grading criteria is very clear, attendance isn't mandatory but he grades you for participation, in-class activities are fun/engaging. Really great class overall & highly recommend this prof!
Professor Hillman was a good teacher. He was passionate about making sure the students were learning the material. The material focused more on ethics and social justice than ethics in business. Participation was required, but it was easy to participate because he gave ample opportunities.
Prof Hillman was an absolute pleasure to have in class. He was always so helpful when understanding what he was teaching. He always tries to make class fun with his roleplays and videos, if you don't like to banter with your teacher then this class is not for you. Participation matters so much in this class so you must show up.
One of the most engaging professors I've had throughout college, which made going to class a lot more fun. If you do not want to participate and be called out in class definitely don't take his class. On the other hand, if you want to get the most out of your in-class experience and learn from an experienced businessman then I highly recommend
Prof. Hillman takes his job seriously; he cares about his students very much and cares that they understand the material. He is very energetic and never has a boring class. Very entertaining professor, you need to participate and engage to get a good grade in this class but that is quite easy because he is very easy to talk to.
This was my second class with Professor Hillman and he is hands down the best professor I've had here at GVSU. He truly cares about his students and their success. Lectures are interesting and engaging for the most part and role plays were always fun as they were based in events that actually happened. If you need an ethics or 331 take Hillman!
Professor Hillman is an awesome professor. You can tell he's extremely passionate about teaching and ensuring students are engaged. Lectures are hilarious and far from boring. Most classes there is some sort of in-class teamwork or participation exercise to reinforce the concepts. Exams are difficult, but an abundance of extra credit is offered.
This is my second class with Hillman and I wish he had a third. Hands down the best professor I have had at Grand Valley. He makes an effort to know each student. Although participation is apart of your grade, this has had me take a step out of my comfort zone. I truly feel like I have gained so much knowledge leaving this class.
Professor Hillman is one of my favorite professors by far. He makes class interesting and engaging, unlike most classes. I wold recommend him to anyone who asks.
Paul is a funny guy. Overall, his class is not too difficult. Typical weekly agenda: -Write a "Discussion Question" with a prompt along with 2 replies -Read ~30 pages of the "Justice" book and take a ~10 question online quiz Exams are tough, but he offers extra credit. Participation is important. Roleplays were new to me, but not bad at all
This class was one of my favorite classes so far at GVSU. Professor Hillman was very engaging, and had a lot of great group discussions. Even if the subject was boring to its core, Hillman was able to think of interesting things to spike your interest. There is a good amount of reading in this class, but it is all interesting stuff to learn.
Awesome professor. Very fun class that explores a lot of ethical concepts. Get ready to participate and get out of your comfort zone, but was super entertaining. Loved the roleplaying and the extra credit opportunities. Super funny guy too. Take if you can.
Great guy and professor overall. You have participation points, but it is honestly for the best. It makes the students become more comftoralble with one another, and break the ice. It was really cool to be in a class where you weren't scared to raise your hand or volunteer to read. Just make sure to study the quiz's, and really prepare for exams.
Definitely take Professor Hillman for this class. The class is really engaging and never boring. The assignments never feel like busy work and he is a really quick grader. Professor Hillman has a ton of management insight and he teaches from his own experience.
Best Prof I have taken at GVSU. I would give him 10/5 if it was an option!!!!
Hillman was by far my favorite professor at GVSU. He is super funny and gets everyone engaged into the class which helps you learn. I have never "Wanted" to go to a class until his. 10/10 professor
He is the best professor I have ever had. I took him to two different classes. He is very big on participation and counts it as a grade. Extra credit is offered a lot, so take advantage of it. Do not skip class or your grade will see a drop. I loved his class, so I never skipped one for 2 semesters. If you have the chance, TAKE HIM!!!
Professor Hillman is hands down my favorite professor I've had at GVSU in all 4 years. He made coming to class less of a chore, and more of a fun learning experience. He pushes you out of your comfort zone with participation, and it will make you grow a ton from taking the class. Hillman is a great guy, and will make you enjoy coming to class!
Professor Hillman is a hilarious and engaging instructor who makes learning fun. The class has participation-heavy activities like roleplays, but exams can be challenging. Unstuckstudy AI and the textbook are great study aids to ace this course.
Professor Hillman is an amazing professor! Attendance and participation are mandatory, and he is a tough grader, but he cares! Exams are difficult, but out of every class I have taken at GVSU, I have 100% learned the most from him. He gives plenty of Extra Credit opportunities and makes attending class fun! If you have the opportunity, TAKE HIM!
Professor Hillman has been a great professor, very engaging during his lectures, and participation gets you points. Be prepared for lots of group projects outside of class. During lectures, he warns you about important information that can be on a test. Exams are in class on your laptop and he lets you have a notecard.
Lectures were great and very interesting. I was always excited to attend this class. Grading is fair and his extra credit opportunities are MORE than generous! Just follow directions properly and show up on time and prepared for class, you will pass with flying colors.
Great lectures and interesting in-class activities. There's a good amount of homework but it's not too difficult boarders busy work. He's a tough grader make sure you don't have any spelling mistakes, but as long as it's finished and no grammar mistakes assignments are easy. Even though he has punishing policies the class is easy.
I love Hillman! He is an amazing and interesting professor. Although the tests are difficult, they are not impossible if you study the mateiral. His lectures are very thought-provoking and inclusive. He gives out LOTS of extra credit!! I HIGHLY recommend taking him for any of his classes.
Great professor. He makes lectures engaging with roleplaying games and other activities. Be prepared for many group projects that must be completed outside of class. Participate to get points. He offers lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard with long answers to read through so be sure to review all content, he does allow a notecard.
I would take Hillman for every class if I could. His exams are indeed hard but if you participate in class and put in an effort, you will do good. He gives out a lot of extra credit which helps your grade tremendously. He is the funniest and most enthusiastic professor I have ever had.
Very engaging, be ready to follow specific directions. Overall great professor.
Professor Hillman is an excellent professor. The class is difficult in itself, but he makes it doable and balances out the workload. You have to read the textbook in order to do well on the exams, but the material is interesting and easy to read. He offers a ton of extra credit opportunities, take them!! Participation is big part of class but easy.
Professor Hillman was a great professor. He had engaging roleplays in class and has real-world experience in the business world that is invaluable to whoever takes his class. I recommend taking his classes and getting as much out of it as possible.
Professor Hillman is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about ethics, social justice, and sustainability. He fosters deep discussions and pushes students to think critically about real-world issues. His lectures are well-organized, and he provides clear examples that connect theory to practice.
Paul Hillman is passionate and engaging. He uses all the resources available to him to prepare clear and concise lectures and lessons. His approach to integrating AI into his course is progressive and understandable. Despite taking this course at 8:30am, he always kept the material stimulating.
Just show up, and everything will be fine. Pretty easy to follow along. Participation makes everything more enjoyable, and you will have some laughs in the class.
Very good professor, knows what he is talking about and a fun class. Lots of extra credit.
He is a really good Professor. Often brings in his own managing experience and shares it with us as examples of what will happen in the work force. Just show up to class, participate, study, and you will be fine. Highly recommend Professor Hillman.
Had a really bad experience. It would be tough to understand content because of his personal experience or jokes. He made racial comments, touched students, and would disagree with me on my reflection sheets because of my beliefs. He did this all to make a point, but his actions over saw the message in my opinion. Better get on his good side.
Professor Hillman is a great professor that will challenge you to think hard about various topics throughout the semester. His tests can be hard, but he also provides tons of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Attendance is mandatory, but Hillman keeps the class engaged.
Paul is a great person, very funny and cares about students. Personally, would not take him again. Had to drive almost two hours to interview for a group project, exams were tough and extremely detailed, HAVE to participate to do good in this class.
Hillman loves to tell stories and make jokes that do not always belong in the classroom. If you're uncomfortable with that, I would take a different prof. More importantly, this group project is more work than I have done in several classes combined. Multiple group meetings a week to get stuff done level. Luckily I loved my group, but it was rough.
Prof Hillman was one of the best professors I have had at Grand Valley. He was very helpful and if you showed up to class he explained the material in a very helpful way. He was very entertaining and the lectures were enjoyable and engaging even though the concepts could be boring. Overall great professor who really cares about his students.
I really enjoyed Professor Hillman as a professor, he really made class interesting. Exams weren't bad, just pay attention in class & study the lecture slides and weekly quizzes & you'll do good. The group projects in the class are very work heavy and meetings are required each week. PARTICIPATION MATTERS! Need to stay on top of emails from him!
What a disaster of a class…Exams are near impossible, the class average was a 60% that alone should tell you something. Very little exam content was reviewed in class. This is a fend for yourself class. The Ovation VR assignment that covers a large portion of your grade was also a HUGE headache. Prepared to struggle. Good look getting a headset…
Prof. Hillman is not like other profs. If you want a meaningful experience in class while also gaining experience in real-life scenarios, take this class. Participation is very important, exams are very manageable if you study the review and past quizzes, & the Ovation VR assignment is time-consuming, but very valuable. One of my fav profs ever!
I dropped this class after the first day because he made an very inappropriate joke to me that left me feeling really unsettled. He seemed genuinely nice and caring, but I could not get past how uncomfortable he made me on the first day which is why I dropped. I was disappointed because the content of the course seemed great!
Professor Hillman is an amazing professor. He provides numerous extra credit opportunities making it nearly impossible to get a bad grade in the class. If you put forth some sort of effort and complete the assignments asked, you automatically will succeed. All of the assignments are manageable and are usually fairly quick. Strongly recommend.
Professor Hillman is an intense teacher, but he makes class super enjoyable! As long as you do your work and engage in class, you'll do well. I highly recommend taking his class. I had a lot of fun, and I enjoyed showing up each day. FYI he offers plenty of extra credit :))
Very passionate professor, makes every class period very interesting. There was rarely a time I was bored in that class! Very participation heavy (easy to participate though). The outside of class work is very reasonable and I never found it to be overwhelming. The exams were unreasonably hard, but LOTS of extra credit to make up for it!
Prof. Hillman is a great professor who cares about his students and expects responsibility. As long as you show up and do your work, the class goes by fast. Lectures are interesting, and there's plenty of extra credit, so take advantage! You won't feel like you're wasting time.
Professor Hillman is the BEST professor I have had at Grand Valley. I am sick of being lectured at and Professor Hillman's classes are not that at all, they are SO interactive. I have worked with almost every student in the class and have done fun assignments like a virtual reality mock interview, roleplays, and more. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HILLMAN!!
Professor Hillman is fantastic! He genuinely cares about his students and is passionate about the material he teaches. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit, and the class itself is very engaging. Participation is important. Just make sure to study for the exams, they can be pretty tough. Overall, I highly recommend Professor Hillman!!
Says out of pocket things to students frequently and laughs it off. Justifies his comments by boasting about how great he is. Had a hard time sitting through lectures without wanting to leave after hearing some of his "jokes" and feeling uncomfortable.
He makes students leave reviews on here for extra credit btw
I enjoyed Professor Hillman from day one. Stand-up guy who has went through some insane ethical scenarios at the company he was a managing partner for. Exams are tricky, but you get a notecard so it helps. The extra credit assignments help a lot with your grade so do them all or as many as you can! Overall, a great class to take!
Textbook needed is just a paperback that can be found anywhere. The VR assignment is annoying and exams are hard... the class stressed me out more than I thought it would.
One of the best classes I have taken. Attendance and participation required. Classes usually consist of role plays, notes, and activities. Roleplays were real life scenarios the professor had went through that apply ethics topics. Workload consisted of a reflection sheet or two and a Packback per week. We definitely recommend.
Participation and attendance mandatory. Offers a lot of extra credit so do that always!!!! You'll thank yourself. Pace yourself on HW and you'll be fine. Midterm was pretty hard, and it makes up a lot of your grade so definitely study for that. Do not procrastinate the VR assignment. Overall great prof and an interesting fun class.
Professor Hillman is a great professor, his classes are fun, entertaining, engaging, and legitimately interesting. The topics covered in this course are also very interesting and important to understand. My only gripe is how he grades because he will subtract points if you get a question wrong on an exam/quiz (despite you already missing points).
Awesome professor. Brings lots of real-world experience to this classroom. 1-2 hours of homework per week but don't let that stop you from taking him. He is incredible, the best professor I have ever had.
This professor is amazing . It's a lot of assignments but pretty straight forward as long as you read. Don't do anything last minute. The test are worth 200+ points which was one thing I hated , but if you study you're be good because we do so many activities in class and hands on things that helps you understand .
Dude is a goat. Super funny and outgoing. Tests are hard, though it's only a midterm and final. With this being said, just pay attention and you'll be fine. I had him for both MGT331 and now MGT340, and he is in my top 3 professors I've had so far at GVSU. You can screw around with him heavily, but just do your homework. He loves ChatGPT, fr.
Professor Hillman really cares about his students. He aims to teach valuable life skills and career tips. Attendance is mandatory as well as participation. Exams are tough and some assignments require extra work outside the normal weekly course work. However, it was worth it because you learn so much from this course.
one of my favorite professors at Grand Valley State so far. He makes the class fun and engaging, with lots of interactive activities and role plays that make you actually look forward to attending. Although attendance is mandatory, he rewards students who show up to every class with 20 extra credit points at the end of the semester.
Lots of ethical dilemma roleplays. Attendance matters; you get one or two missed days, and if you miss more, it's 10 points off the final grade per day extra missed. Fair amount of homework, but doesn't take too much time. Hillman is a great and fun professor. I would take him again.
Unprofessional and calls students out in front of the entire class. In my opinion he kind of has a temper.
Ignore these bad ratings. Hillman is a great professor that keeps lectures engaging. Lots of hands on learning, through VR and role-plays. Be sure to study lectures because that is the main thing he makes exams about. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well!!
I've taken Hillman twice now, and he's one of the best. It can be intimidating, but you get used to it (I'm super shy and was terrified at first). Offers a lot of extra credit. Activities in class enhance learning and are super entertaining. You do have to work for your grade but it's not draining, overall easier class
As long as you show up to class and take notes you will be just fine in this class, but pay attention!
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. He's inappropriate, constantly goes off on pointless “life lesson” rants, while making comments on people's appearance, or personal lives. He also bribes reviews because everyone I have spoken to also in his class hates it. Don't take the class with him!!!!
Professor Hillman is one of the best professors I've had at GVSU. Attendance is mandatory, but he makes his lectures engaging and interesting. If you want to do the bare minimum, do not take this class. He requires all projects to be done outside of class with weekly group meetings. But you can get a lot out of this class if you put in the work.
Amazing class and professor. Hillman pushes his students to think outside the box. I always found the content interesting and relevant. The roleplays, in-class activities, and lectures taught me so many lessons that will be useful for my everyday life and career. If you have the opportunity to take a class with Hillman I 100% recommend!!
I highly recommend prof hillman, he is by far my favorite professor at GVSU
Professor Hillman is a great teacher and keeps it fun and entertaining. The roleplays are a blast and are always gonna test your ethics. Lectures are engaging, and the homework is manageable with plenty of extra credit opportunities.
This class demands attendance, participation, and presentations. The environment is competitive, and grading and exams can be tough. Expect occasional ribbing, but if you put in the effort, you'll gain a lot. Paul is highly educated and brings real-world experience that makes the class worthwhile. Overall, I enjoyed the class!
The semester group project feels like a job. Compared to other sections of this course, this one by far has the most busy work. Hillman is a great professor who is very knowledgeable; however, I wouldn't take this class again because of the sheer amount of unnecessary work for a MGT 331 class.
I really enjoyed Professor Hillman; he is always on time and expects us to be on time, too. The exams are really, really tough. There are a lot of fun activities in classes that are beneficial. Because the exams are so tough, he provides extra credit pretty often.
is engaging and most projects are team based
Professor Hillman is very knowledgeable. I enjoyed having him and would recommend. I got chewed up the first day of class for being late; attendance and being on time are very important to him. Exams are tough, but he gives extra credit options to make up for it, though! Group work is important in this class too; be prepared at all times.
Professor Hillman is a great professor. He does a great job of lecturing, using real world examples, and pushing you to do the best you can in his class. Exams were moderately difficult, but I really enjoyed the semester competitions for extra credit, and the semester long project provides a great learning opportunity with business professionals.
Professor Hillman is a great prof, theres a lot of team work in the class for the semester long project. Exams are difficult if you do not study.
Professor Hillman is a great prof, a lot of the class is team based and exams aren't impossible.
MGT 331 is the easiest course you will take regardless of professor. He requires constant class participation and attendance. This class can be extremely emotionally draining but if you have any interest in MGT then I recommend his course if not then don't. I can honestly say if every class was taught like this gvsu would be better off.
He was great at keeping students engaged during lectures even though he would read off slides, he still made lectures interesting by telling real life stories. His advice also was great and something that you can take with you.
I loved him as a professor. I missed one class after having perfect attendance and he made it a point to reach out to me and make sure I was okay. The class Is so interactive and he is not an easy professor by any means but I learned so much. He kept me on my toes but he is such a funny guy and makes going to class fun.
The professor was very energetic and enthusiastic, which made the class more engaging. He used a lot of real-world examples and connected the material to situations we might face in our future careers. He explained things in a clear way and focused on practical skills rather than just memorizing facts.
Hillman's MGT 331 is ROUGH. The effort is mandatory for a good grade, and he keeps track of attendance. Exams are not easy, so be prepared for lots of studying. This class is structured around group work, so get friendly with who you're assigned to quickly. Don't take it if you hate groups, and I did at first, but it honestly wasn't that bad.
Prof. Hillman is a fantastic speaker and keeps you engaged with every lecture and conversation. He expects good work out of you, including attendance and participation. Group work heavy, but he teaches you how to work closely and excel as a team, rather than being stuck with slackers.
This is one of the best professors I've gotten the chance to learn from. He used a lot of his experiences and real-life examples to teach and apply to the lecture materials. I always looked forward to the role-plays, and learned something new every time. XR project was rlly cool, glad it was introduced as one of the assignments. Many ECs available.
Tries to push his views onto students. Cannot handle someone having a differing opinion than him. Also contradicts himself constantly. Says "I do not want you do take educated guesses on my test, I don't reward taking risks" followed with a huge lesson on how taking risks is so important that he is so passionate about. Yikes!
Prof. Hillman is an amazing professor, pretty funny. Make sure to participate, you will be put into a group for 3 small group projects and 1 long semester project, so if that's not up your alley DONT take this class. His grading can come off harsh but he does take the time in class to make sure your learning.
This class is NOT for people who learn best from verbal explanations. I learned a good amount from the lectures, but the group projects were extremely vague. He will not give clear explanations, and he purposely includes details that will mess you up. If you do take this class, read EVERYTHING for the group projects. All I can say is good luck!
