Awsome teacher!!! He is just a kind hearted man who obviously loves to teach. He is very helpful and clear in his directions. I would definitly recommend anyone to take a class of his. Any class will do. A good teacher makes you want to learn!
Have had him for two classes: WWII and US to 1877. Very knowledgeable about the subject! Consists of either 2 or 3 papers depending on class and a couple essays. Allowed me to begin Honors project relatively late, and gave me recommendations to tutor. Will be taking his clases again next semester.
He's very enthusatic about the subjects he teaches. For this class there are 2 major research papers and the topics are open to whatever you what to write about relating to WWII. All the tests, including the midterm and the final are writing, but he gives you the topic ahead of time to study.
Professor Jentz is a really nice guy who is really passionate about history. Not only does he love teaching, but he also shows care and concern for his students. Good guy, good class, just show up and do the papers and you will be fine. Jentz rocks!
Professor Jentz teaches a tough subject that can be very dry but he makes up for it by being an easy grader.
Professor Jentz is okay, but I dislike all of the "umms" and "uhhhhhhs." If anyone has seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off, you will know who he reminds you of. He knows what he's talking about though, so that's a plus.

Not one to care for history, don't care for the teaching method. Doesn't help to get me interested.
Jentz is probably one of the most understanding, and also nicest teacher i have ever had
One of the most understanding professors I have had at NHCC. If you're not all that interested in history the classes may seem long but if you keep up you will get a good grade.
the man nows hi history, but lectures were kind of boring. Though he asked you to read the book it really wasn't required. Should try to involve class more into a discussion. Maybe groupwork, or read historical books and incorporate in class
TAKE HIM! It will be the easiest A you get.
He is very knowledgeable in History. I would recommend him in any history class he is teaching. If you listen to him and read the notes online, you will pass easily. Papers are easy too, just need to allow time for them.
r u guys really serious? excellent instructor? okay, i agree jentz may be knowledgeble in the subject, but he clearly doesn't show it in lectures. all he does in class is either mumble in a monotonous tone or stutter the whole way through.and God forbid u aska question in class unless to kill some time cuz he wil take 15min can help out ofclass.
This class is very easy. The instructor is very knowledgeable. Make sure you don't procrastinate on the journals because you never really turn them in until the end. Overall, the tests are easy, and the class isn't that hard if you read his notes.
Prof. Jentz is a pretty easy teacher especially if u are into History. But overall u are at least guaranteed a B without much effort but if u go da extra mile then u will surely recieve an A for the course. All u have to do is turn in a journal at the end of the semester, and take writing tests that are fairly easy. Overall a very easy class.
Hilarious in-lecture quotes!! Very very smart. Good prof overall.
Says "um" 12.6667 times per minute, other than that good teacher, easy A
I love history and to have this professor. UGH. He didn't let us use our online discussions for talking about current events, ONLY on what we read. We just have to "read" the material and parrot it back to him. That was the same for his reader responses too. You ask him a question and he doesn't directly ask you. I had him for 2 classes. BEWARE!
Paul Jentz is by far the easiest teacher I have ever had!!! And also he is the the coolest guy ever. He doesnt care if you never show to class, his tests are cakewalks and everything is completely in your control. I Demand you take him if you want an A, I took him both semesters last year (05-06) and I got A's in both classes with 100%'s on eachtes
This guy rocks, It's teachers like this that make me come back to NHCC. I learned more about history then i ever wanted to know, but im glad i took his class. The course work may look tough at first, but just stick with it and you will have an A.
Itis obvious that Professor Jentz knows his subject matter. And yes, he is very lenient with his grading. However, I felt that the delivery was a bit weak and he rarely facilitates the group discussions (which I feel is necessary because students alone cannot guide through the content). Nevertheless, I recommended.
Took him for history online. Do your work and participate and you will do fine. Great teacher!!!!
Awesome teacher-he is very helpful & really cares about his students. He is also really easy on grading. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
Awesome teacher-he is very helpful & really cares about his students. He is also really easy on grading. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
wonderful and interesting teacher. learned a lot
amazing professor.
This class is ridiculous. All we do is read 2-3 chapters each week and summarize each one...No actual learning goes on. The worst thing is he only logs on to the class every 4-5 weeks so we have no idea what our grades are. If I wanted to just read a book I could do it in my spare time. Don't waste your time and money on this class.
He's very well educated. If you take the time to listen to him, you can learn alot!
Professor Jentz is a really good teacher! He's very good at explaining things. The class was almost all lecture which can be a little boring, but he acutally makes history interesting. From reading the syllabus, you will think he's a very strict grader, but he's one of the easiest graders I've ever had as long as you do the work. great teacher!
The class was mostly lecture and his speaking was a lot like this: "Then the leader of the Qin dynasty...uh...ummm..well he ah...um...oh by the way i have to cancel class tomorrow but yea...uh..." and eventually you don't know what he was talking about anymore. He is an easy grader though. I got an A but my percentage was 81%
l had him for online pre 1500 world history. lt was two 300 word essays a week. lf you skimmed the chapter and wrote the amount then you got all your points. He was friendly and the class was very efficient and convenient. lt was a great online class, lots of writing but easy A. btw it was an online textbook.
SUPER Easy!if u needed a easy history class, i say this is the one. I took him online over the summer and got an A. Easy 300 words essay and discussion. As long as you met that 300 words, its a guarantee that you are getting the full points. I was shock and scared by his syallbus as it sounded hard but it's not at all.. Was glad that i took him.
Easy professor if you know how to write well structured essays. Took him for an 8 wk history course. Every single grade class is essay, whether it be written assignments, group work, or exams. Assignments are 200-400 words, Group work 4-5 sentences each question, online exams are 4-6 questions 200-400 words, range varies. Not hard at all.
Very understanding and helpful. They way his class is structured is great, especially if you take a hybrid class. He can get a bit scatter brained during lecture because he gets so into it, but overall I loved the class.
LOVED HIS CLASS! Although he stutters alot, he is a really kind professor and very easy grader. I would love to take more courses taught by him.
He is a good professor. The class was 8 weeks long and wasn't hard. It consists of a total of 10 400 word summaries, 5 in class group assign. and 4 online essay exams. I would recommend this professor and this class.
Online course--I liked the material and thought the essay questions were good, only problem was there was zero interaction from the professor. Everything's from the syllabus. No comments on essays, just a score. This is basically an independent study course. Great if that works for you, sucks if it doesn't.
I thought this teacher was very good. You read and write on what he said to and thatâ??s it, there are no hidden surprises. The most important thing I can say is that heâ??s a low stress teacher.
Paul Jentz is a nice guy. He's very passionate about history, and explains things very well. Tests in this class were in essay form. Use as much material as you can from the book. Trust me. I started out getting 90 percent on tests, but once I started to use the book more, I got 100 percent on every assignment and test. Super easy.
Pretty easy A, just come to class and take notes then write a summary of what you learned for each class. He knows a lot on the topic, but isn't very clear in answering questions. Class is quite boring, it's always a lecture done off of a power point--always! Your hand will be writing the whole time so start exercising now.
Easy straight forward class. Read the chapter, pick topic question, write a summary of info with a dash of your own thoughts = easy A. Replies to emails are a little slow but other then that all commuincations was open and kind. Highly recommended!
I highly recommend Paul! He knows his stuff and is extremely helpful whenever a student is looking for clarity on a topic. If you allow plenty of time to complete his online essay exams and take good notes there is no reason you won't do well!
Online class. Read the book; participate in discussions; write the essay. Get an A. If you like history, you will learn alot just because you have to read about the topic and then summarize the info. Would take more classes from Paul.
very disorganized. class schedule did not match syllabus schedule, making it difficult to write papers on essay topics when they were never discussed.
Very nice guy but an absolutely awful teacher. Graded more on English then history and switch his grading style on a weekly basis. He never get through the lecture that he has planned and is only willing to help you if you do it on his exact terms. Distracted and inconsistent.
You can get an A easily in this class as long as you do the work. Paul left feedback for the first essay but other than that we didn't hear much from him. You just read the book,do 2 easy assignments each week and get graded. I never had to ask Paul a question so I have no idea how helpful he may or may not be.
Mr. Jentz was great! I took a hybrid, fast-paced class so it was a ton of work in a short amount of time. Lots of writing, but I learned a ton! His lectures are good and interesting too because he is kind of a funny guy without trying to be. Be able to write quick because he talks fast! He is also very helpful if you mess up on an assignment.
I like this class but I know nothing about Paul Jentz. Everthing you will need to know about his course is in the sylabus. I realy liked this class cause all you have to do is your assignments on time and meet the world limit. Just put in the effort for an easy A.
Paul obviously has a passion for history. The whole class was lectures, but he would go in great detail and make it really interesting. It was hard to get used to listening to him, he stutters a lot and has a very odd way of constructing sentances. Tests were time consuming and just consisted of spitting information back to him.
So I really enjoyed his class great lectures and no test. Honestly he is a nice guy and a great teacher I think one of the best history teachers I have had in a long time, all his "test" essays are based on his lectures. Make sure you record his lectures for those reason and take a lot of notes and READ THE BOOKS. Also he's really attractive.
I like the guy. He is a typical historian but his class is straight lectures. I do enjoy history but I feel like his books are not the best choice to fully explore the material. I found it really annoying that he overthinks everything and puts it into several other context. I really stuggled with his test. so just Ehhh
Paul is one of the best history teachers I've ever had. Just follow the prompts to the essays he gives and read the books. Go to his office hours if you have questions. Very easy class if you just put effort into the three assignments he gives.
GREAT GUY, super smart, very happy, more than fair grader, and all around knowledgeable and accomplished Historian. Now the draw backs, Lectures jump around a lot and he seems to draw out sentences meaning that he takes a long time to say what he is thinking and it's not fluid speech it is very fragmented so you will need to pay close attention.
Most boring class I have ever taken, but it was an easy A. Lecture attendance isn't required, but it is helpful at times. I found it easiest to record lectures then go back and listen to the parts that I need afterwords. Tests are essay format and long, so if you don't like writing, DO NOT TAKE.
Jentz is a really good professor. There's only 3 essays in the entire class, but they do require a lot of reading. He stutters a lot and is a bit scatter-brained. Take a lot of notes because he mentions things that are extremely helpful for the essays. Make sure you plan out your time because essaysreadings are time consuming, but not difficult.
I've taken a few of his classes now he is a great professor.I really urge anyone interested in taking history classes to take his classes. Not only are his in class sessions great, but the online classes are great as well. Truly great professor my favorite so far. You will not regret taking any of his classes.
Great professor who is into history, but not a history class, more like a writing class. I was expecting to learn history, not write paper. The lecture he gives doesn't help, and he doesn't explain the assignment well.
Professor Jentz was an amazing teacher to be enrolled under for one of my first postsecondary courses as a PSEO student. The lectures are not essential, but are often insightful, interesting, and provide a lot of info that can be added to your essays. He is very well-versed and passionate about what he does. You'll not regret taking a class of his.
Having taken his class online, I didn't interact with him very much. I did however email him once about format and got a semi clear answer. He was patient as I kept asking questions though. He seemed pretty easy on grading and it made me wonder if he read all of the assignment I had turned in.
I took an online class and it was very easy. I would take it again.
Do not like this professor at all. Took out almost my points for minor mistake.
Very easy class he rarely even reads your papaers
Overall, Paul is a good instructor. He gives good feedback and is passionate about history. He may come off as a little different, but once you get to know him, you'll find him quite interesting.
Every other week there's an essay due and a discussion post. The discussion post is basically as long as the essay and sometimes he misses some assignments.
Professor Jentz is fine. If you need to get a history requirement box checked but don't really care if you learn the material this is a class that satisfies that. The books we read were written by radical liberals who think America is evil. The papers were graded almost completely on grammar and not substance.
Prof. Jentz does not really teach history. He grades 100% based on grammar and punctuation; this is fine if you just need to get history out of the way, but it makes assignments practically void of learning. Also, he is not interested in differing perspectives from his own. Keep that in mind if you have trouble dealing with unfettered arrogance.
I took his half-semester 1300-present class. The only assignments were 8 essays based off of the questions at the end of the chapter. His lectures are kind of boring if you don't participate, but I enjoyed his class. He grades pretty easily, you just have to follow the very specific guidelines he puts up.
Professor Jentz's assignments and grading criteria were clear, and while lectures are not mandatory, personally I found them enriching. His speech is not always elegant, but he has a sort of charm about him. Further, this is a relatively easy class. the only things graded were essays; as long as you didn't make any glaring mistakes, he is lenient.
You don't have to show up and you'll still pass. He's a pretty easy grader, but I also took the accelerated course, so he might've been a little easy because he had so many essays to read. He struggled a little bit with getting things in quickly, but overall a very easy course. Would definitely recommend the accelerated version of 1300 to present
took his online world history class & all I can say is DO NOT TAKE. read 4 books, write 1200 word papers & 250 word discussion on each. doesn't seem bad, but he doesn't explain how to do anything. doesn't bother to help. no lectures or communication at all. TOUGH GRADER, takes points off for nothing. you're on your own. only take if you have to.
If History isn't your forte and you need to get it out of the way, this is definitely the class for you. 4 books and you write one essay each with a discussion post, very easy class. You don't need to read the entire book, just have a good understanding of the topic overall and just use the book for evidence. Write a full essay and you'll pass.
His online class is based on 4 essays, discussions, & reply posts. Honestly, for me the class wasn't as hard as I expected (past reviews).Syllabus may seem harsh but was helpful. Follow syllabus, email for questions, use TUTORS & you'll pass with an A. He states in syllabus how to avoid major point loss. Books are easy & less than 200 pages. easy A
This class is just writing essays. I really like History but this teacher made the class very unenjoyable. 4 essays and discussion posts. You are supposed to teach yourself and write essays all semester. 0 communication with this teacher. DO NOT TAKE
His online class was very simple, 4 essays and discussion posts, that's it. Do not take IF you actually want to learn, otherwise he's a solid choice in getting your credits. It was an online class so of course you had to teach yourself the information. He's laid back when grading but does not give very good feedback, but he always answers emails.
Professor Jentz was a great grader and very responsive. There aren't any lectures in the online class, so be prepared to read. There are a total of 4 papers and 4 discussion posts. If you read the textbooks and do the required material, it's a fairly easy class.
He doesn't grade very fast so it is harder to improve on the second paper. He is very strict about what is in the syllabus so read it very carefully. The class isn't to hard as long as you keep up with the due dates.
You are basically given a section out of the textbook to read and write a paper on any topic of your choice from that section. There are a total of 4 sections and 4 discussion posts. He doesn't tell you to do so READ THE SYLLABUS. It tells you everything you need to know. He does not really communicate unless you reach out to him.
He has to be the worst professor I have had at NHCC. He has 4 essays u have to write. He is terrible at responding; when I would email him asking him what I did wrong he would give me answers that I already knew. It was like talking to a 5-year-old. It was a very poorly designed class with an even worse professor. IDK how I got an A.
This professor really made me MAD!!! Im a PSEO student & took this class with a friend. Although my essays were detailed and concise, the highest grade I received was a 70. My friend purposely submitted lower quality work & was still given a higher grade. There was also no feedback whatsoever on these essays just given a number .
The whole class was 4 papers that's it no work outside of those four papers. If you want to learn absolutely nothing this is the class to take. You read one paragraph from whatever chapter he assigns and then write pretty long paper about that paragraph. He does not grade on the concept that you write about, he only grades based on grammar.
The other reviewers are correct in saying that your grade is based fully on 4 discussions and 4 papers. I also agree that you can pass this class without learning anything. The papers can be about any topic you like within the assigned chapters, and little reading is required outside of finding things to cite within your paper. Very easy.
Jentz has a major issue. Overall he gives genuinely some of the worst feedback ever (if you gives you it at all), the class as many other students noted is graded off four essay which he only gave us feedback on two of them. On top of that the feedback was given after the next essay was due. If you are a PSEO student trust me and take a new class.
Professor Paul Jentz was a harsh grader. The whole class was graded on 8 things. 4 discussion posts and 4 essays. He took over a month to grade my first essay AFTER the second one was due. He gave very terrible feedback. Essays are of our choosing. But mine was too vauge. Don't take the class!
This course was simple but not my favorite. There are 4 discussion posts, 4 replies, and 4 essays due. You must read the two required books. If you're not a strong writer, you will definitely struggle in this class. The essays are non-prompted. Professor Jentz answers emails quickly but is a slow grader. He gives good but late feedback.
The class is just 4 essays and 4 discussion posts. When grading he deos not explain very well what you could improve and by the time he grades them it is too late. He doesn't grade anything until the very last mintue, like my second essay was not graded until a week before the class ended.
The amount of assignments only consists of four essays and four discussions. On the essays there is not any clear criteria on what he wants, and you choose what to write about. You have to do a lot of reading, and it's basically the only way you "learn" in this class. This felt a lot more like a writing course.
Expected to read 200+ pages each week. Homework consisted of 4 Essays, each 1000-1100 words long, each with 4 PRIMARY SOURCES, along with 4 discussion posts and 4 discussion replies. There were to essay examples or prompts to help you start. There were no Tests. Rediculous.
I took two online world history courses with Professor Jentz. In both classes all we had to do was maybe 4 essays over the semester. You're assigned a few chapters to read, and you can pick anything to write an essay about. Plenty of time is given for each essay, and he grades fairly. His expectations are clear in his syllabus. Highly recommend!
I believe he is really nice, but I just hate, absolutely hate the structure of the online class of 4 essays and 4 discussions, as well as the harsh rubric and unclear guidelines, and the essays that have no prompt. Feels like a 6-7 credit class.
With learning to navigate through the syllabus, he was not helpful. You are graded in the online version of this between 4 papers. This made it difficult because had to do good on each one to get a good overall grade. Not helpful feedback. Took it because it was the only class available for the criteria I needed.
Graded by 4 discussions and 4 papers. I recommend going to the writing center to revise your paper. Expect your first paper to be a C and then the other 3 to increase. The book is THICK, but read 1-2 chapters from each section and write your paper about that. No extra credit, READ the syllabus! He doesn't answer your questions, so read the syllabus
Graded off of 4 essays and 4 discussion posts. It's easy, as long as you READ THE SYLLABUS. I can't stress that enough, it will tell you everything you need to know, he won't tell you directly. Just pick one section of the chapters given and make sure you look through the provided links for citations/footnoots/etc, you'll get an A if you do.
This class is graded on 4, 1,000 word essays, 4 discussion posts and replies. If you do not make time to read you will be stressed. This book is rather big so be cautious if you do not like to read. Professor is nice.
Dont bother trying to reach out to him he will not answer. the essays he made us write were difficult not only because he wouldn't tell us anything we would have to fid it though the syllabus. He is extremely slow with grading and doesn't give you any feedback.
Professor Paul only has four essays and four discussions, all of which are simple if you know how to write. This class would be much better if he provided samples of how he expected us to write essays, but he always responds to emails and provides feedback.
The outline for the class was very simple: four 1,000 page essays and four discussion posts with responses. Just like another commenter said, expect to receive at least a C on your first paper. I pride myself on my writing ability, but his guidelines are VERY unclear. The syllabus provides most of the information, and he does not answer emails.
This class is 4 essays, and 4 discussions. Papers have no prompts, and no clear rubric or expectations. Professor Jentz is nice if you're able to contact him, but he takes forever to respond to emails or grade anything. He grades essays after the next one is already due, so you aren't able to use feedback to improve.
This is the second class I've taken from Professor Jentz and it's definitely easier than the first time. It takes time to understand his expectations but otherwise, he's a pretty generous grader. He assigns a lot of reading but if you make sure to stay on track and mark up your textbook with points for your essay you're golden!
Pay $400 for 4 essays (1000 words, can only ref textbook), 4 discussion posts (225 words), 4 replies (125). Each unit is ~4 weeks. Jentz doesn't grade the last essay until after the next is due. No given rubric and his feedback is generic and unhelpful. No room to improve, slow to answer emails. Don't take this class. Waste of $ and time.
Like others are saying, he wont respond to emails or grade tests until way after they were due. no clear expectations whatsoever about papers and very broad feedback. He was okay, just be prepared to be self sufficient.
This class, with minimal guidance and a rigid instructor, posed a significant challenge. Despite being an A student, I chose to drop it to protect my overall grade. Sadly, it turned out to be a waste of time and money.
This was one of the worst classes I've taken so far. Your grade is based solely on 4 essays, discussions, and responses which is awful. He gives little to no feedbacks on papers, and he is very hard to work with. Communication wise, he is very unclear and unconcise. The class very extremely stressful and I do recommend taking it at all. Waste of $
This class consists of 4 essays, 4 discussion posts, and 4 replies. Expect to get a C on your first essay, with very poor feedback. However, if you follow the syllabus you should do well.
This was the worst teacher I ever had. I knew many people in this class. For every assignment, everyone got the same feedback, word for word. It was obvious he didn't read anyone's work, in addition to taking months to grade things. It was also clear he was just handing out random grades. He also is no help if you need it. Do not waste your time.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He does not even review what you submit before grading. There is no clear rubric, so you never know what to do to get a decent grade. It is obvious how full of himself he is. Don't waste time or money!
Arrogant professor (emailed him about a grade error and he stated why I earned the grade I SAID I deserved; he updated D2L but never acknowledged his fault), no extra credit, total reliance on textbooks for class structure, overly complex essay guidelines, and subtle CMS guideline in syllabus. It's more like a writing class and harder than APUSH.
Professor Jentz has 4 discussion posts and 4 essays due for the entire semester. He has a very clear grading criteria, and if you follow it exactly you will get an A. The word count on the posts and essays matter, so make sure you double check before submitting. Overall, it was an easy class that wasn't very time consuming.
It's very easy and simple. I got 100s on pretty much everything, including the essays. Just follow the rubrics and due dates and you'll be fine.
If you do well on the first assignments in his class, you should have no problem following the syllabus. I ended with a perfect score on everything the class was not that difficult, but you have to pay close attention to what you read to show that you understand. Try your best because there are only 4 threads and 2 papers then that's your grade.
He doesn't care about teaching his students. I had emailed him about confusion ON the syllabus and he proceeded to say "Look at the syllabus" He uses the same syllabus for every class he has even with different classes, making it harder but also leading us to end up MISSING due dates. We used a World history book in the syllabus, he put US history.
I was confused on the essay that's require for this course since it was no prompt, summary and only using the textbook. He wouldn't give any clarification on the essay, he would say "read the syllabus" he was no help at all. The only help for me to pass his course was history tutors.
Had 4 discussions and one final essay. Didn't even read the textbook.. just went through the sources and read those to answer questions. He doesn't post any information, all in his syllabus. Same responses on discussions he gave everyone. As long as you do the discussions, reply to them and do the final essay, you have an easy A.
Professor Jentz was a very easy grader on all 4 discussion posts and the final essay. I easily got homework done without even reading the textbook. He responded to my emails within a day or two and I found his advice helpful at times. If you want an easy A with very little work to do, I would take him.
Professor Jentz has a specific teaching style that takes some getting used to. The assignments can be challenging, but using unstuckstudy and the free textbook helped me stay on top of the workload. Overall, it's a fair class if you're willing to put in the effort.
honestly reading all these you may wonder should I should I not. you just need to be a little online savvy and read the textbook he gives you full credit if you follow all direction ALL of them doesn't take too much time. just don't whine to him over email he hates hit.
I felt the work was really easy to complete and had clear guidelines. Although it was few, as long as you completed the work correctly you got good marks.
There are only 4 discussions that you are graded on and a final essay at the end. Professor Jentz is a light grader and it is very easy to pass his class as long as you complete all the work given. Highly recommend this professor!
Prof Jentz class is very straightforward and clear which I liked. Four discussions and one essay. I'd say he is an easy grader. Use the textbook because it has the questions for discussions and you use it for the final essay. He responded to emails quickly too. Overall, I'd recommend him!
Great Professor, very understanding and lots of time to finish discussion post/essay. Work is very easy and straight forward, just read the textbook. And you don't even need to read the entire textbook to understand the assignments.
I didn't read the textbook at all but still received sufficient grades on everything. If you follow the due dates and syllabus requirements (which can be tedious and confusing at times), the class is manageable. It was not super time consuming, and as long as you follow his formatting and mirror other students' discussion posts, you should be okay.
best professor i've had, not too tough, easy to keep up with and if you miss something send him an email and most likely he will let you make it up!
It's online class, where you are by yourself and work in your pace. However, I would like to mention that he is light grader.
