I thought it was a little boring because anthropology really isnt my thing, but it is an interesting class and he's a good teacher and has great stories, and even does a little stip show on the last day of class...

Good Teacher knows his stuff tests are a little hard to me anyway. Its a little boring at times but still a fun class to take and if you get a chance take it.

He is a great teacher. I decided to double major in anthropology because of his class. There is a lot of reading involved, but he is extremely fair. It is a class well worth taking!

Awesome class. Great sense of humor and makes the most boring material fun. Last class definitely makes the entire class worth it. Tests can be a little difficult even if you do the readings, but fair on grading. Quite a bit of reading too.

Great professor! Lots of reading, tests sometimes difficult but he's really fair. Added 10 points to my first two tests! Really cares that students are understanding. Definately recommend!

Wonderful class! Anyone who did poorly on his tests just did not study or come to class. He was more than fair - 20 pts added to the final. I learned so much from this class. He made the material very interesting

Great teacher. Classes can be rough to sit through sometimes, but they're mostly worth going to, the review sessions help a lot too. Jim is really nice and he has an awesome curve on tests. If you do the reading you will do well on the tests.

Jim is the best! I found him extremely helpful, caring and honestly concerned about his students..and he isn't afraid to 'get dirty' in order to prove a point.

Good teacher, grading harsh, very funny british humor. Got a D+ in his class, did all the reading, spent hours studying, but tests were very tough.... All in all, I'd love to have him again. Sign up for his class now!!

One of the very few University of Maine professors who doesn't have a chip on his shoulder or a mental problem. I like him a lot, smart man, intellegent, funny, and yet serious, different from Maine professors (though he's British and not from Maine that would explain why). Why did he choose Maine?

Great guy. Hilarious. Always talkign about when he got ****... Very easy to pay attention in class. Just do the reading and go to class (which you will want to do) and you have got it made.

He's nice but will ignor you in class if he doesn't seem to like you when you raise your hand. Also his test questions seem to have too many jokes in them and don't apply to real situations he talks about aliens and stuff. He tends to ramble on and on about stuff that doesn't matter and doesn't let

The professor is a riot. He has all these really fun stories. His is the best large lecture class I have ever attended. His British accent is sexy. If you do all the reading and pay attention in class, it is an easy grade. I got a B- with very little effort.

Everyones favorite teacher, but personally I fall asleep in the class. Maybe it is becuase it is my 3rd time doing it(only first time doing it for credit though). With that said, a little too much reading, but the reading is good.

Even though I thought the tests were very hard, this class was great. Roscoe is really funny and the class is very interesting. And he does add a lot of points to test scores so bad grades can end up looking quite a bit better.

I think he is a nice guy, smart, I want to rate him higher but can't; he uses powerpoint some, but should use it more to outline the important stuff as he is all over the place with his lectures stuff come up on exam that you wouldn't think was important, his test questions are very hard/confusing.

Professor Roscoe is awesome. He is intelligent, funny and seems to genuinely care about his students and the material he is presenting. If you actually attend lectures (which are both interesting and amusing) and do the reading you will have no problem with the class.

Nice man, tells funny stories, but can not write a decent exam to save his life, exam questions are way out in left field and he rabbles on and on about alians in his exam questions for which makes things confusing and frustrating. He's got a lot of symantical and grammatical errors.

The class was pretty interesting, and it was a bonus that he had a british accent. However, his exams are fairly crazy (although you're pretty much guaranteed ten bonus points added to every test due to errors on his part, so that helps). As long as you read and attend classes, passing the course is a piece of cake.

His tests are wacked he writes a lot of questions with sloppy sentences, makes up for it by scailing up his exams 16 pnts, he's not very open minded for an Anthropologist he slams on the French a lot. We read soft**** called Nisa that had nothing to do with the actual African tribes - its a nasty book. He took off most his clothes the last class.

By far the best and most personable professor I've had. Made excellent examples that stuck in my head. Long as your actually do your work, you will pass fine. Even though i passed with a C, i thought it was far. Bought him a Cigar, since he deserved it.

Aside from being totally illiterate in the way of test writing he's entertaining, moves funny, class is interesting, easy grader. Its only Maine and not Harvard but its a cheap college if you want to save $$$ on tuition.

BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD.....every class was worth going to. He taught in stories which made it easy to remember. He was very funny and that accent is the best.Kind of reminded me of Paul McCartney. Plus he scaled his test over ten points each time so if you fail there is something extremely wrong with you.

I think the main reason students like his class is that he is very funny and entertaining. Can't say I learned very much from him "just read the text book and you'll learn all you need to know just from the book". Aside from teaching yourself he is funny and entertaining.

Great professor, great class. I recommend it. Roscoe has the most dry funny humor of any professor. Difficult tests but read and attend lecture and youre good to go.

Although he can be funny/childish at times, one must be warned that he can switch quickly into being a jerk. Depending on his mood, he can come across as quite abrasive.

he is nice, but gives no structure with his testing. Im an honor student, and no matter how hard i worked, could not get my "A". He gives you a textbook as a study guide for his exams.... oh and your notes of course. If you like structure, don't take this course.

He seemed to spend more time trying to be entertaining than actually teach. Some of his jokes were dry and unfunny. You could basically just learn by reading the book. But this is rather typical at Umaine the Professors and Instructors don't seem to teach very well. A lot of dumb students as well.
