AWESOME GUY. WON TEACHER OF THE YEAR LAST YEAR. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I heart PJ~ he was funny and graded fairly and is a teacher who wants his students to do well! and yes, he looks like the uni-bomber :P

Great Professor...learned a lot from him...

hard class, great teacher
His course is challenging, but he is so organized and clear that anyone can understand it. As long as you go to class and do some of the problems, anyone can pass.
The most helpful teacher in the Science Department. THank god he teaches the hardest course in college.
Nice guy, trys really hard, knows his stuff, really funny.
Great teacher for a hard course. He's really nice and funny and tries to get his students to do well. He doesn't try to trick his students by making tests extremely hard, instead he gives you the old tests and makes the new ones parallel to the old ones
Excellent Teacher
Excellent professor. He's very fair and doesn't pull any stunts to fail anyone. He's very helpful, and if you noticed, he wrote the lab manual, so he's obviously knowledgeable.
Very fair, Very knowledgeable!
amazing, best prof at Duq
PJ knows his stuff...its a good thing he is teaching the hardest course in college. Hes not very sociable but he has a sense of humor that is weird. He is very fair too give you last years tests to help you for the next one and he is very organized. I
Reasonable. Although not an easy course, you usually know what to expect on exams and quizzes.
Lets you know what to expect without making it super easy. You will learn alot from him.
I love Dr. Johnson. If I would have had him for every class in college I would have gotten an A. Its not that he's easy he's just that good of a teacher that it seems easy. By far the VERY BEST I have ever had. I studied his notes and got an A both times...and I am no where near a genius.
HOT ANDSEXY
Dr. J was the BEST!!!
If anyone has had Paterno, you will hold Johnson as a Saint. Also, I like the whole bigfoot concept. I like that some professors haven't dissociated themselves from their college acid trip days.
Great teacher, makes a hard subject understandable. Let's you know exactly what to expect on the exams.
Professor Johnson is quite possibly THE BEST chemistry teacher we have! As hard as OChem is, he made it my favorite kind of Chemistry....he's just THAT good at teaching it. I love this man!
funny, great teacher!
Good prof... not always the best at answering questions but approachable. Fair, presents info well, etc.
Dr. Johnson is by far the best science professor at Duquesne! He has an amazing sense of humor that really makes a subject like o-chem seem more manageable and less intimidating. He lets you know what topics will be on the test and lets you use previous years' tests as practice. Definitely attend lecture and fill in the notes that you buy.
Dr. Johnson was a good professor to many, but I did not like his teaching style. It did not connect with me - he went too fast and didn't explain some crucial things well. Willing to help you in office hours, though. I am doing much better now with my new organic chem professor. Very intelligent man, though. To each his own.
overrated
If you are able to understand what he is talking about, and do a lot of practice problems this will be an ok grade. Look carefully at the question he gives on his practice exams you may see something like them again.
Professor Johnson is the most overrated professor ive had so far. He is very unclear and already expects you to know what hes talking about. You could be completely prepared for his exams and end up with a C on them. I learned more form the books than from him.
He's just okay. If it hadn't been for having Paterno last year, I would say he was terrible. However, in comparison, he is really much better so I am just happy to be out of Gen Chem.
Dr. Johnson, (PJ) is over rated. However, he still is a good professor.
Dr. Johnson is ridiculously smart. It's obvious that he knows what he's talking about. His class isn't impossible, its just challenging. What ochem isn't? The tests aren't half as bad as paterno's tests, at least the info from class is actually on them. Overall, I think he's a pretty rational guy. He's a little too smart for his own good though
Dr. Johnson is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He makes a very hard topic accessible. He is incredibly organized and the class is structured well. Labs are even well done--and I hate labs in general. Plus, he's hilarious.
Thank goodness for Klein. I never would have gotten through the class without it. While he is ten times better than Paterno, he's still totally overrated.
Dr. Johnson is truly an amazing teacher, though some people may not see this. He is clear in his explanations, makes a hard subject understandable, and makes a boring subject interesting and sometimes funny. Klein was useful for the first half of the semester, but lacked what Johnson was able to teach for the rest. His tests were very fair.
Dr. Johnson is about as good as it gets as far as O Chem professors go. Sure, it's a challenging course, but that's just the nature of the subject and not lack of teaching skills. I found that he is clear in his explanations and he is actually quite amusing at times.
Doc Johnson is not a bad teacher at all. Organic Chemistry is just a really hard subject. Sometimes he overwhelms you with information, but its not intentional. He is probably the best teacher possible for the subject. He is really nice and is always willing to help.
Dr. Johnson is a wonderful teacher. He really knows his subject. Makes organic chemistry as interesting as its ever going to get. Funny, nice, helpful. Probably the best professor to teach O. Chem. His exams are fair and he does not try to trick you. Very approachable and easy to talk to.
Johnson has been by far one of my favorite professors I have had so far. The course was made enjoyable by his humor in class. If you just put the effort and work into the class you should do fine. He gives out so many practice problems to work through and helps you in so many ways to get down the Organic brick road using the Organic Trinity. :)
A really good teacher, and very clear. Going to class is very beneficial. He's funny and really nice. Definitely one of the best teacher's I've had at Duquesne.
Organic Chemistry is a very difficult subject, but I think that PJ is an incredible professor. His lectures consist of filling in the blanks of note pages (he does it with us) and there is practice assigned out of the book. Only grades in the class are 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and a Final. His grading scale is very loose. Study a week in advance!
He is a very nice old man & understands that the material he teaches is tough. The second semester of Organic Chemistry is extremely difficult & will have you completely flabbergasted but as long as you scrape by with a C, you're golden. He makes it in his grading scale so you can if you are willing to put in the work!
An OK professor. His in class lecture is much more insightful and easier to understand then the text book, so you pretty much have to go to class. His grading scale is pretty loose. The only real problem that I have with him is that his notes and blackboard site are kind of disorganized.
If you attend class and stay caught up with the problems assigned by the notes as well as put in some serious studying, you will do ok in this class. It isn't as impossible as some make it sound. The fill in the blank notes are really great and PJ knows what he is talking about. Only downside is the class moves very fast through the material.
Dr. J is one of the best professors I have had. Organic Chem is a tough thing to learn but he is enthusiastic and fun and super smart. Do all of the recommended homework problems and ask lots of questions and you should do well. His grading curve is extremely fair.
i attened the class and studied but he would create the hardest tests in the world.
PJ is an extremely good teacher. If you go to his class, study hard, and do the problems, it's easier to understand the material. OChem material is extremely hard to learn, but if you work with PJ it become bearable. He does what he can to help you, but you def have to study.
Dr.J is GREAT. Organic Chem is tough but he makes is look easy. However I recommend you show up to every class, work every practice problem and ask questions early so you know each section as well as you know your own name. It all builds on itself. I feared chemistry before Dr.J. Now I cant wait to learn more. Sick Right???
BEST PROFESSOR OF CHEMISTRY AT DUQUESNE!! Loved his class!
The man is a great professor. The class is hard nonetheless, but he is good enough to where you can do well.
Tough class but an easy grading scale. With the bonus points, an A is only about 85%. A LOT of studying is required to do well in this class, though. Johnson's notes are very helpful and he also posts problem sets on blackboard which really help prepare you for the quizzes and exams.
Professor Johnson is an amazing professor! He is really intelligent, and he explains the material very well. The material is fairly difficult, but a good grade is achievable if you go to class and do some practice problems.
Dr. Johnson was extremely helpful. His dry humor made the class interesting, and he always took time to explain the more difficult concepts.
His tests are extremely difficult and he barely does any examples during class. He is very rude and disrespectful when I have gone and talked to him individually. Make sure you recount your exam points, as he in notorious for miscounting and giving you lower grades than what you earned.
O chem is a tough class. PJ it a great professor however, I find myself not having to teach myself. ( Unlike Gen Chem) If you work hard, do the suggested problems, go to lecture, an A is possible. Exams and quizzes are fair. The final however is very difficult. With the 30 bonus points, you should pass this class, if you don't it's your fault.
Class is definitely hard. teaches ochem1 very clearly. Notes are very helpful, did not have to teach myself much other than resonance. PJ and Kleins 2nd Language book and you should be fine. Tests and quizzes are HARD but FAIR. need to start studying at least 2 weeks in advance. With 30 bonus points, you should pass or you didn't try at all.
This class has very hard material and I'm sure is the reason for the poor grades. But PJ does try to make things clear and does a pretty good job as it. He doesn't offer help, but if you ask and go he will be there. You do get 30 bonus points which helps your overall grade. But studying is essential to get a good grade!! Do the practice problems!
Ochem 2 is definitely harder than Ochem 1 as it is a continuation. PJ teaches the same way so if you did well first semester you should be okay for second semester. Not as many notes but still around 100 pages. he changes the times bonus quizzes are due so beware. First exam is harder than second so study hard for the first test and you are set.
This class is HARD. Do ALL book problems and read the textbook. The tests are brutal and DO NOT bank on doing well on the finals they are nearly impossible. It is manageable material, but a lot of it. Some people get more out of lecture than others, just depends on how you learn. Also if you write "BIGFOOT MAGIC" on your test you get extra credit.
As long as you put in the work his class isn't that bad. He is a really good teacher, and is great at explaining the subject. Do all the homework problems he assigns and you should be fine. Definitely purchase the small Klein's book for his class it is the best resource for studying. Honestly a great class, you just have to work hard.
Although the class material is quite difficult, PJ does a good job making things simple and understandable. His notes are good, but it's an absolute must to have the Klein 2nd Language book. He gives 40 bonus points throughout the semester, and sets the grading scale really low. The second exam is much harder than the 1st, so be careful about that.
Dr. Johnson made OChem so much easier for me to understand because he actually explained what he was lecturing. He is very straight forward, and you know exactly what will be on the exams. If you do not pass, it is the lack of effort on your part. He makes it more than manageable to pass.
I absolutely loved PJ. He is a great professor with a good sense of humor (which is nice during lecture). His notes are clear and the assigned problems are relevant. He gives out a lot of supplemental materials on BB that mirror exams. His grading curve and extra credit make it possible to do well, but he goes through difficult material very fast.
PJ was one of my favorite professors thus far. Organic Chem is a hard subject but he makes it worthwhile and he has a great sense of humor during his lectures. I'd advise not to skip class but it won't cause you to fail if you do it rarely. He gives ton of bonus points and his exams are expected to be difficult but not impossible.
I thought PJ was an excellent professor. Ochem is a difficult subject, but I have a feeling it would have been a lot worse for me if someone else taught it. I really like the way he does the notes, he explains things really well, and he's occasionally really funny. With his grading scale and the bonus points, doing well is definitely possible.
PJ was a great professor. He understands that the material he is covering is difficult, and does his best to allow students to pass. He has a broad grading scale which makes it pretty easy to do well, but be sure to recheck all of his grading, as he does it himself. Do all assigned Klein problems and old exams/quizzes and you should be fine.
Gen Chem students, you can finally take a breather! PJ is a very good professor and his class is very straight forward. I did not use the textbook and almost got a perfect on the first exam. Just be sure to read Klein's as it is very helpful with comprehension. Be sure to do his practice exams/worksheets as some problems are repeated on his exams.
Phenomenal professor.
The Klein book is a must. the class is memorization heavy, so pay attention. Definitely do the practice tests/ worksheets and extra credit quizzes.
Ochem is just a difficult class for most people. PJ makes it pretty easy compared to most schools. His notes do not follow the order of the book, but he gives you specific sections and practice problems to reference in the text (I recommend doing them) Klein helps. Exam 1 easy Exam 2 hard Final mostly the new material even though he said cumulative
Ochem is hard, period. But he makes it easy to follow. Still a lot of memorization and sometimes didn't feel prepared for exams. READ THE BOOK. It will help. Do not miss lecture or you'll be behind. Good guy, just hard material. Also gives extra credit, which you will need.
He gives extra credit - DO IT. He is a nice guy overall, but the material is so difficult that he needs to work harder to help us understand. Even after going to EVERY class and reading along in the book, I still struggle to pass this class. Do the homework problems at the bottom of the lecture pages - they'll help. Prepare for a lot of work!
PJ is a very knowledgeable guy. His teaching style is unique, some students love it, I did not. His lectures are mostly examples and not explanations, so if you don't learn by example you will have to teach yourself. I had to teach myself, but to his credit, he gives you plenty of resources. Do all the HW and rewrite the notes and you'll pass.
Organic requires a lot of studying outside of class. If you miss lectures you will get confused. Just to the problems that correspond to the information that he covers in class, keep up, and you'll do fine. The only thing that kind of sucks is that there are only 5 grades in the class, two quizzes, two exams, and a final. But he does offer bonus!!
Dr. Johnson is a great teacher and really knows his stuff, but the material is very difficult. If you want to do good in the class you should definitely go to his lectures and take notes. He gives a lot of extra credit and the grading scale is very helpful to students' GPA's, but his exams are extremely tough. If you study a lot you will do fine.
PJ is super intelligent and really wants to help you if you put the time and effort into his class. I used the Klein book (didnt even buy the textbook) and went to tutoring once a week. Ended up with an A in the class, so this hard class is extremely doable. His notes are super organized and easy to study off of.
For being an organic chemistry professor, Dr. Johnson was fair and gave as much extra credit as possible. It was still not an easy class, but it was doable. You will survive if you try.
Dr. Johnson made a class which I went into terrified, a breeze. I only purchased the small Klein book. His notes are very easy to understand, he gives extra credit through bonus quizzes. The exams were not difficult. I copied his notes into a notebook everyday, along with the klein problems, and will be passing with an A. You just have to try!!
O chem in general is just hard. Having an ancient professor makes it that much harder. He's not awful though, just confusing at times. He gives partial credit on exams and quizzes, and 30 bonus points, which is nice. I basically had to teach myself based on the 2 textbooks if I wanted to actually learn, but his lectures did help.
Dr. Johnson at first was really hard to understand, but as the class progressed it got better teaching wise. If you don't do well on the tests do not hesitate to go to his office hours he will more than likely give you some points on the tests (with good reason) back. Overall, not bad you put the minimum effort into it.
Dr J was a really good professor. He was easy to follow and his notes helped a lot. Ochem is not easy but he makes the material understandable. Use Klein, his notes and practice sets and youll be okay
PJ Is a great ochem teacher. He is really laid back and his notes make the class so much more doable. The exams are tough but going to tutoring 1 time a week and reading Klien is helpful
Dr. Johnson, as said before, makes a hard class manageable. as long as you copy your notes and study about two weeks prior to exams, you will pass. The class is heavily curved to a point where a 56% is a C. I only have the small klein book and that's all i feel is necessary
I am currently taking his class, and I only need a 60% on his final to get an A. Currently have a 100%, so I want to help you out with how to pass. Go to lecture and fill in the skeleton notes. I have the text book, the text answer book, and Kleins book. I self teach and use Klein heavily & only use the text for sample probs. Youtube is ur friend.
He made organic chemistry a lot better than it could have been. Although it is just a difficult subject, if you go to class and study his notes, you will pass. I did pretty well through the semester, but the final is what brought my grade down. He is a nice guy. Taking him again for OChem 2.
PJ is a pretty dry lecturer but tells you exactly what you need to know and explains it well. His exams and quizzes are basically identical to the practice exams. If you do even ok on the exams and quizzes theres 30 bonus points that can boost your grade almost a full letter grade. Took him for organic 1&2.
