Extremely monotonous class. Assignments purely subjective, tests not too difficult.
explains things thoroughly and gives good notes. Study notes and skim book and you will do fine. Homework not too bad, directions are good.
He is a good professor but the way to get an A is not part of his syllabus. His tests are pretty easy if you look at the power points and look over chapters in book.
lectures are enjoyable and tests aren't too hard, but the grading of assignments seems random and his explanations aren't very clear
hardest tests/homework ever!!! easy to understand, but is unclear on content. be prepared for killer tests.
This class was very boring- power points every day. There are few assignments, and multiplie choice tests.
This class f-ed up my gpa. Classes were boring, and although I studied for hours, I couldn't seem to get a good grade on tests. Assignments are very unclear. All I remember from class is that he talked about Istanbul forever.
Can get super boring, tests are the kind you think you do OK on then fail..powerpoint notes are posted on his webpage, so sleeping in class is inevitable.
paul is a crazy character...at first, i will not lie, i thought he was going be the teacher of a class i deeply would regret...however, after getting to know dr. turkey a little bit more, i started to like the wily guy that he is...
I thought the class would be pretty easy but you have to study a lot. Lectures are usually NOT boring at all. Kaldjian has a way of getting your attention and making you laugh. He's a very nice, approachable guy. You can tell on the first day that he cares about his studentss. Good class.
Outstanding professor. Very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, assignments can be a bit longer than needed but overall interesting. Very helpful and personable...one of the professors who really cares about his students both in and out of class. I
tests sucked talked too much about coffee get a life
Fun teacher, and personable. Don't take his class for an easy grade, because you won't get it with that attitude! But if you study with friends, it is actually much easier to score well on the tests.
Dr. Kaldjian is awesome, I just made him on my profile for a wrestling game, thats how much I like him. His classes were ****ing awesome. They were informative, yet interesting, and I learned much info. I now love Turkish, and Finnish, they are my favorite languages. Istanbul, especially the old city walls, do not suck. Old tiles are cool. poo
One of my favorite professors. Take GEOG 111. Not very hard. Lecture is done by powerpoint. Kaldjian makes the class interesting. 3 Tests with projects in between.
This was a seriously tough class because he expects you to know things that are kind of unnecessary for the class. Overall his classes weren't boring and he's a nice guy.
His class was pretty interesting but the tests were very hard. He grades his assignments pretty easy tho
He is a GREAT professor!! makes the class really fun.. and funny!! You take three exams, which are pretty hard, but he gives you a chance to make up the points in assignments. Good professor!! Take him if you need to take Geography!!
Good professor. Enthusiastic. One of those professors who gives exams with multiple choice where any of the answers could be correct and backed up by material he's presented. Good overall. Relates subject to the area and the students. Easy overall. Good class. Interesting.
Kaldjian is a good man. Helpful if you have questions or are having trouble. Very intested in the subject which causes him to put a lot into his lectures. A rare breed.
I really enjoyed this class. He makes the class really interesting and tries to get students involved. The exams are tough, but the assignments are not bad. I would definitely recommend him!
Kaldjian is entertaining, but for full credit you must attend all the classes. The paragraph writeups you have to do (and that he reads before the next class) get repetitive. Nevertheless, an OK class.
Loved him...want to take more of his classes!
This man knows his stuff. Very funny and entertaining. Never a dull moment in this class, not for me at least. He wont let you slide by though. His assignments and tests will challange you but are fair. Little hw on a day to day basis but the assignemnts he does give a time consuming. Material is interesting and actually useful. Take Kaldjian!
Dr. Kaldjian is a wonderful professor! He makes some of the more boring topics interesting and his lectures are always worth attending. He also speaks finnish and sang in finnish for our class! He is a very interesting guy with lots of funny stories and jokes. I would DEFINITELY recommend him! He's one of my favorite professors at UWEC!
Dr. Kaldjian is a great professor. He will push you, and he may come off as a bit of a hard ass at first...but you will learn to appreciate that. He is probably my favorite professor at UWEC, and he definately cares about his students and really wants you to learn.
Professor Kaldjian was a good professor. Though at times his lectures were boring, I felt as if he made them as interesting as possible. I would recommend taking him, but make sure that you aren't late, try and attend as many classes as possible and be prepared to do some serious studying.
well he is a pretty funny dude, the homeworks are kinda hard and the exams are killer but if you listen and actually enjoy the class its not too bad. Liked the course and would take another by him.
Most worthless class in the world, homework=pointless. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Loved Kaldjian as a teacher. I had 3 different professors for this class because my first one got sick and Kaldjian was my favorite. Go over his powerpoints because that is what he tests from. He might seem hard at first, but he really lets you know what he's going to test on and he loves the material. Would definitely recommend!!!
Amazing professor, definitely good at teaching. Homework is a bit difficult but it actually has substance to it. Good sense of humor, knows his stuff. Good at getting the class involved. (Goes for Geog 111 too.)
good prof, wants you to learn. i really enjoyed his class. he is willing to help. his tests can, at points, be unclear and hard to figure out. his music before class is entertaining. also he is a great accordion player. take him if you can
This Professor really knows his stuff!! He is sincerely passionate about what he does, and wants you to do well. The class is really interesting if you pay attention and try. I advise this class, I learned a lot! Hint- study his slides! That's all you need for the tests!! As much as the homework may seem crappy at times, its really interesting.
Kaldjian is an awesome professor. He sincerely cares about each and everyone of his hundreds of students...he learned every name in my class of 85 students. He loves what he does, and wants to see everyone succeed. Great sense of humor as well.
Kaldjian is amazing! Not only is he knowledgeable, interesting, talented, and exciting, he has a sense of humor also. I always looked forward to going to class; it was never dull, and even though I am not a geography person, Kaldjian made this class awesome. I especially liked the random world music before class, and his superior accordian skills.
THIS CLASS SUCKS! IT IS REALLY HARD AND THE TESTS HAVE HARDLY ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE MATERIAL! I EVEN PAID ATTENTION AND TOOK NOTES AND IT WAS WAY TOO HARD!
Difficult course, difficult tests, wanted to doze off a lot, but I really enjoyed this professor. He's obviously passionate about what he teaches and wants us to appreciate geography as well. Likes to crack jokes and show interesting facts. I'd recommend him, but I'd also warn that his material is difficult.
Great professor. Never short on humor and enthusiasm. Fun prof that cares about educating his students. Makes material relatable by telling stories. Anyone who rates this prof low is actually rating the COURSE itself. It's a hard class with hard tests and frustrating homework assignments, but you'll learn something from him.
He keeps the class very interesting and makes the subject fun.
I would recommend this class if you aren't worried about it affecting your GPA. Tests are extremely tough, especially the final. No matter how hard you study, it will be IMPOSSIBLE! The lectures are very interesting and you learn so much! Good professor but not an easy class!
Awesome prof! Yes, his class is difficult and you really have to work for an A, but if you're looking for a fun class where you actually learn something worthwhile, take Kaldjian! He's extremely passionate about his profession.
Ok class, read the powerpoints and do the study guides..the tests will be a little bit easier that way. do the homework 2 weeks ahead of time cause it will take you that long! he is an interesting character and loves talking about Finland...so if thats your cup of tea take his class! not a good GPA booster like other 100 level courses!
I loved this professor! hes so passionate about what he does, and he takes time to learn peoples names and actually cares about his students
Challenging class, but very interesting.
Kaldjian is a great professor! I barely knew anything about geography at the beginning of the semester and ended up adding a geog minor by the end of the semester. Lectures are always interesting and he is available to discuss anything during his office hours. If you take this professor, get to know him, he's a very interesting person.
This class is HARD talking to him outside class won't do any good. He's very personable and likeable, but don't bother trying to learn anything from this class or get a decent grade!!!
He is a great guy, definitely one of my favorite professors so far. We had to read many challenging academic articles, but he lectures about the same topics so it helps out. He has essay exams, but they weren't too difficult. He was very helpful and encouraged me to excel in each of our assignments. Funish class, inspiring guy.
He is very approachable, but vague when it comes to helping with questions. The class has a lot of reading and powerpoints. The exercises (hw) are pretty easy. I really don't know how I passed. Studied for 2 weeks straight on final to get a C- and B- for overall grade. I'm not the greatest at geography though.
frikkin awesome
Really really hard class. Way too hard for a 100 level course. Do not take it with him, trust me.
Taking Geography of Food. The class has a lot more reading than I expected, but the readings are relative to the class and are the basis for our in class discussions. The quizzes are difficult, but open note. So bring good notes! We didn't have a text book, rather a reading packet of articles.
Kaldjian is a great professor! He is helpful, caring and hilarious. He truly cares about his students and is willing to help out a student in a heart beat if you stop by his office hours! I would suggest Kaldjian if you're able to take him as a prof.
The ratings for Prof. Kaldjian are ridiculous. This was a terrible class, and he is not a good professor. If you like boring class periods, random questions on exams, and tons and tons of work, he's your guy. He's a nice person, which much different than being a good professor. Avoid if possible!
This class really isnt hard if you show up, pay attention, and study. Paul is an interesting guy who is passionate about geography. Work load is not heavy (Three tests and five homework assignments) but you will need to study. He puts all the powerpoints on D2L, and the textbook is relatively easy to follow.I would recommend reading chapters ahead)
Great guy with a great passion for geography. Although... the class is pretty tough. Three exams and five homework assignments. The exams are pretty insane (80 scantron Q's within 45 Minutes). Very interesting class, but requires a substantial amount of studying. Wouldn't choose him again for a class if i had the choice
This professor rushed through all the material, which is difficult, very quickly. The tests are so hard, even studying for it got me a bad grade. Highly suggest that you don't take this class.
Was excited to take this class but this was one of the most stressful classes. All he does is ramble at the beginning of the class for 20 mins then proceeds to attempt to catch up through the rest of the boring lecture. Tests are impossible and he never gives back or even talks about the test. Do not take this class with him!!
Paul does not respond to emails, rushes through his lectures, and wastes time on random things. Highly suggest not taking this class.
Homework was super time consuming. Tests impossible. Not helpful. Does not care about helping you. I have tried to reach out for help because his class is impossible to pass for other than Geography majors and minors but he has not reciprocated the effort. I wish I had never taken this class. Super GPA crusher. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
I'm a junior, and this is the hardest class I have ever taken…. and it's a 100 LEVEL CLASS! The homework assignments take forever, the exams were confusing and extremely difficult, lectures were incredibly boring and contained too much material for a 50 minute lecture period. This is the first class I've ever failed. DON'T TAKE IT, PLEASE!
I do not recommend taking this class with Kaldjian. He is not helpful when it comes to answering emails or questions and does not make it clear what is on the tests. The lectures are quite boring and filled with info not on the tests. The tests had random info we never learned and each homework took over 4 hours-not kidding. Avoid if possible.
Paul was the hardest professor I ever had in my life... The ratings he has on here make no sense because he had a big amount of good reviews when I decided to take his class. He gives you power points that do NOT help on the test and homework assignments that take longer than 6 hours, no joke. I studied 32 hours overall for one test and got a D-.
Love him!! He's hilarious and really makes the subject interesting!
Prof. Kaldjian allows for creativity with assignments, so for those who like written directions, his style might be irritating. He often will change things on a whim, so it's important to keep up with his current expectations. All in all, he's a difficult tester but a fantastic lecturer.
Very good lecturer, however, tests are extremely hard and none of what he lectures about are on exams. Very difficult and time consuming class.
Professor Kaldjians Geog 111 class was the hardest class I have taken while at school. He isnt very specific about tests and the questions are very vague. Make sure you read the chapters for the test. If you have a choice dont take this class with him unless you want hours of homework and hard tests
Tests don't have anything that you learn on them, lectures are long and boring, assignments are stupid and take forever, he hasn't replied to one email I've sent him, and wayyyy too hard for a general class. Take this with someone else!!!!!
My overall interest I geography was not high, but he makes it interesting and at least semi-fun.
This class was one of the hardest classes I have taken, but somehow I think that was a good thing. I am a pre-nursing major and was very concerned about the difficulty of this class, however, after completing a semester I am glad I took it. I learned so much and my viewpoints were broadened immensely. Passionate professor, but be ready to work.
He is passionate about the subject and his lectures are interesting, but the tests have nothing to do with the lectures. Exams are extremely difficult and you never know what to expect. Homework gives you a lot of points back. Homework is time consuming. Textbook is only used for exam prep.
Dr. Kaldjian made me question whether to be a sped teacher. I greatly enjoyed his class and I felt he made a effort to get to know all of us in his class. I love that he encourage me to question everything. I would totally take his class again and I am going to be in his honors class in the fall; by personal recommendation!! Dr. Kaldjian is amazing
Kaldjian is a very good lecturer and he urges you to be open-minded. You really are graded only on three big tests and four or five assignments. Make sure to put your all into the assignments, and READ THE TEXTBOOK! The tests are almost a hundred questions a piece. It is as important to understand the book, if not more, as it is your notes.
Dr. Kaldjian is far and away the best professor I have taken a class with. He's an outstanding person, and he genuinely cares about his students. That said, he also expects his students to understand the material, so his homework assignments and tests are quite difficult, but if you're willing to put in the time and effort, you will love this class
I loved Professor Kaldjian. His lectures are really entertaining and his attitude and way of teaching is very respectable. His homework assignments are few and take time, but aren't extremely difficult, his tests on the other hand are pretty difficult. If you make it to class every time, the tests will be a lot easier.
Dr. Kaldjian is a very nice man. He makes lecture interesting and has a real passion for geography (he is the head of the department). Although he is nice, if you aren't a huge fan of geography in the first place, this class might be tough. The tests are difficult and hard to study for. You get out what you put in to this class.
He is so funny and doesn't talk to us like students, more as just people. He swears sometimes in lectures which makes the class more enjoyable. He is really passionate about geography. The best part is that he knows everyone's name even if they don't participate in class.
The class is fine. If you do not read the textbook or go to the lectures it will be difficult to pass. He does post the power points online but being in class matters. He notices and keeps track of attendance. If you have a question you are better off asking him in person despite him stating that email is the best way of communication for him.
I enrolled in the class my first semester and this class was extremely difficult. Professor Kaljian is a nice guy, but he doesn't do well preparing you for tests. I recommend getting a tutor because his tests are impossible. You do 5 homework assignments that take a lot of time, but if you try on them, you should do fine on those.
Dr. Kaldjian is approachable, understanding, and very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches. The downside is that he is fairly disorganized and his expectations for assignments are not very clear. The class is difficult, but if you work hard you'll get an A.
He is super disorganized, never puts grades in on time, will not respond to your email, doesn't give study guides or any direction on what to study before tests. He has a good personality but in college you need a caring professor and he is not one of them.
He was pretty understanding about homework assignments not being completed if the directions weren't able to finish. Don't expect him to answer your emails promptly. Tests are very difficult, but if you study the lecture notes, you'll be ok. He asks questions you wouldn't expect, so pay attention to details in lecture.
Makes geography really interesting, but his exams are really hard. They are definitely passable though, if you study. The homework is a lot of pointless busy work, but it helps a ton with bringing your grade up. You can tell he very sincerely cares for his students, and I definitely recommend him!
Exams are a little difficult but there isnt a lot of homework at all and hes very nice and funny
Very understanding, especially if you are a freshman and still adjusting to college. Lectures are entertaining and he makes you think in ways you haven't before. He cares about his students and loves to hear their thoughts and ideas.
Kaldjian is very understanding, especially with freshman. He's pretty laid back in lecture but you need to pay attention because he gives very little detail as to what's on the test. You only have 5 homework assignments but they take a lot of time and aren't relevant to what's on the tests but they really help boost your grade so do them well.
I never thought I would find geography so interesting. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount that I learned in this class, as well as the amount of fun I had due to professor Kaldjian.
Professor Kaldjian is awesome! He can be kind of weird sometimes, but honestly he's great. He is very well-read and really knows what he's talking about when it comes to geography.
Professor Kaldjian is a really cool person and he really cares about his class and his students. If you read the textbook and attend lectures (and pay attention) you should be able to understand the content just fine and get a good grade in his class.
Hes such a nice guy and interesting person, but omg hes everywhere and unclear. His exams are very hard and he expects a lot from you. I dont know how much I learned from this class, I spent more time being stressed, confused, and cramming.
Kaldjian is a super interesting guy and he genuinely cares about his students, but he really makes you work hard for your grade. Its interesting to listen to him talk, but I definitely learned more from the lab than from him just because its so impossible to follow him.
He is a nice guy but kind of toddler in a candy store. . Basically Kaldjian takes something that seems easy and makes it complicated. For me, I hate making things complicated, and theory is just that, complicated. He is available for questions, but acts more like a philosophy professor than a geography professor: he leaves you more confused
Professor K is a hilarious guy who makes his classes very interesting. He has been all over the world, speaks several languages, and tells amazing stories. I highly recommend taking a class with him even if it is not required for your major.
Cool guy. I would for sure take him again.
Professor Kaldjian is a great professor, especially with freshmen. His lectures are enjoyable with many examples. He is very knowledgeable, knows many languages, and has traveled to many places. Your grade consists of 5 homework assignments that take a lot of time (great grade booster), participation in class/2 campus events, & 3 exams w/ mapping.
This Integrative Seminar class was paired with Kaldjian's section 201 of GEOG 111 for freshmen. The class is to help freshmen adjust to campus life and consisted of writing 9 mini-essays, reading a short novel & writing an essay with it, weekly discussions, and even eating some food! It's once a week and you get to know other freshmen and Kaldjian!
The gem of the geography dept. A fantastic and thoughtful professor. My only complaint is how unorganized he is and how difficult it is to follow him because of how easily distracted he is.
He's a nice guy. The tests are pretty hard though. Mostly from the textbook, so you have to read it. But he makes the lectures not boring even if you aren't totally interested in the subject. There are 5 projects which are really easy to get points though.
Great Professor, very knowledgeable and personable. Makes lectures interesting and engaging.
He' s a great professor, cares about his students and how they are doing. VERY approachable, will help you with anything you need. He wants you to succeed but also to work for it and have fun doing it. His assignments can be challenging but are easy if you make it simple for yourself. He cares about his students and will give extensions.
Dr. Kaldjian was an amazing professor. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. The tests are challenging, but not impossible. He makes the homework fun by making it interesting and engaging with the actual lives of his students. He is a great teacher!
great guy biggest setbacks are the exams which are very difficult homework is time consuming and challenging so do not wait till last minute
Very nice guy. However the class has an insane number of field trips. The weekly readings take 6 hours minimum and he is an incredibly tough grader on the response forms, with absolutely no feedback on why you got the grade you did. He also will NEVER answer emails. Communication is poor.
One of the best geography professors I've had. He's super understanding and really just wants students to get the most out of the class. It's heavily based on discussions, papers, and group projects. Usually a weekly lab where we cook something, which is always fun and laid back. 100% recommend him.
An interesting guy, loved his classes, but I didn't always feel supported with assignments and labs. A lot of the work is independent and in some labs I wasn't sure about the connection to the lecture. Most of the assignments are papers, which felt very overwhelming. He's a good professor, but his teaching style and my learning style didn't match.
He is a great professor. Cares about his students and was part of the reason I switched my major to geography. So glad he's at UWEC, and I hope other students consider taking him!
