He is a hilarious teacher who makes his objectives very clear.

He keeps his class interesting with his sense of humor.
Had one teacher, she left, Kaplan took over - he's mad hard!

Lazy, uses old tests, unavailable to students, not particularly intelligent

Very funny, but hard exams.
Conveys enthusiasm, good sense of humor.

Contrary to what other comments say, Kaplan is one of the easiest professors you can have. His exams are very easy, and contrary to FRanklin's, Kaplan's exams ar mostly common sense and lecture material.

not helpful during office hours, test are not on what we talk about but the lectures are not boring. have to read text book which is awful.
Best professor at Stony Brook.
He's VERY VERY easy. He's a nice guy, but I didn't take the class very seriously. He encourages class participation, so everyone pipes up. It can get pretty annoying at times.
great and interesting teacher. he's very funny and the tests are easy if you study the end of chapter review and go to the fun classes.
This guy is awesome, I loved going to his class, and the tests are pretty common sense, especially the first one in Dev. Psych. Really cool guy, has lots of funny stories.
worst professor ever. I thought I like psych unitl I took his class
Lectures are full of interesting stories and he dosent put u to sleep like the other prof's. Exams are clearly worded and very fare, if your a competent person this is an A.
Nice guy, makes the class fun, the tests aren't so easy though.
Absolutely no assistance during office hours. I once sat outside his office for 20 minutes waiting to see him during posted hours while he chatted with his brother in law on the phone. He hung up and told me office hours were over. Uses old tests.
HE IS ONE AMAZING TEACHER!!
The best prof ever! Makes you enjoy the class because he incorporates his own personal experiences and tells funny stories that relate to the material. Though lots of notes during class, and HAVE TO READ the book, he wrote it. I strongly recommend him.
Lectures are FANTASTIC! Very funny, nice guy. Only problem is that his lecturs are very broad and the tests are VERY detailed. YOU MUST read the book and memmorize all vocab. For this sole reason, I don't recomend Kaplan. The detailed tests can be hard.
everyone said he was so great but i dont think so. he was of no help in office hours. his test are not what he talks about in class. fun class. good lecturer but really no point of u want higher than a C.
I tool him for development psychology and abnormal psych and loved him for both. Lots of fun, great teacher, always willing to help.
Prof. Kaplan is a great teacher. He is always interesting and his lectures are relevant. The tests are very fair and it is not hard to do well in his classes if you put the effort in.
The class isn't that bad as long as you read the textbook... and the book is interesting and common sense. If I went to class, I would've done alot better in this class.
TALKS IN CLASS ABOUT NOTHING THAT IS ON THE TEST HIS TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE AND HE WILL NOT HELP YOU AT ALL, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM , HE MAY SEEM COOL TO LISTEN TO BUT DONT BOTHER IT AINT ON THE TEST
Fun guy.
I am looking forward for his class,he is in fact a great lecturer. However, his tests are ridiculous, and you have to be a clairevoyant to do well. I've studied like crazy, and the results were not that great.
He's one of the best lecturers I've had so far in my college career. He's funny and gives great notes and everything he talks about is relevant to his tests.
I have Kaplan for two classes and he does a pretty decent job of covering the material. His stories get repetitive and his lectures are straight from the book. BUT You MUST read the book to pass the class--everything he says is from the book, but he doesnt cover everything that will be on the test!!
Interesting professor. He's enthusiastic and he's funny. Worth it to take if you need a 200 level class.
He is a great teacher and he is very fun and very enthusiastic. He was very understanding and he really cares about his students. Great person to have as a teacher.
Nice guy, good llecture, very hard tester and no curve. If you have a question outside of class you are pawned off on a TA. He doesn't like to deal directly with students
He's a good professor, I reccomend PSY230
He makes the class alot of fun. Tests are a little hard, but study the text and you'll do fine
hes a pretty cool guy, interesting lecturer, but tests are mad hard and detailed. u really have to have a photographic memory when reading the text to even do good.
very good lecturer horrible tests you can study for a week in advance and u still wouldn't be able to get higher than a 75. letures are interesting to know but don't help you for the test at all. very nice man but don't be fooled DON"T TAKE THIS CLASS WITH KAPLAN!
You can go to every class, take superfluous amounts of notes, read everything you have to read, and still not do well as you expected. Great lecturer, but his tests are very difficult. I feel bad for psych majors who have to tolerate this guy.
Dev. is easy, just read. Lectures straight from the text, class not neccessary. But you must read all the supplemental material. Abn. much harder, lecture is a must, and you must read!! Dont take both classes at once, he makes the tests on the same days ALWAYS, and its really hard to study for both.
I hated this class, he has no idea what structure is! His ta's are morons and ****y for that matter. He wears the same nasty shirt everyday and his tests ask the most insignificant questions ever! STEAR CLEAR

VERY VERY HARD EXAMS...even if you read the whole txtbook in advance, goto lectures and everyting, u still wouldnt do good on his damn hard exams...yeah hes funny and interesting sometimes but that wont help u do good on ur test unless u remember EVERY SINGLE LITTlE TINY PIECES OF DETAIL in the book
Kaplan is funny, but his tests are extremely detailed and hard. Although you read and highlight the textbook, he asks very detailed questions that you wouldn't catch from reading.
Kaplan is HORRIBLE! He's a funny guy, but that's the only good thing I can say about him. He talks, and talks, and talks (because I think he likes to hear himself talk). His tests are VERY detailed and extremely hard! You have to pay attention to every detail in the book to do well.DON'T TAKE HIM
sucks don't take this class
Kaplan is awesome. If you arent a good test taker, than you will do well. I read all the material the few days before each test, and I got an A in both classes, plus I had dev. and abn. tests on the same days. If you read WELL you will do well, and hes so much fun!
Kaplan makes his lectures fun and entertaining, but his exams are very difficult. Before every exam I did all the necessary reading and still only managed to get in the low 80's. His questions are extremely specific.
HE is fun! never enjoyed a class that much. I wish his tests were easier though. The book is soooo dense.
Nice guy, and very funny. Mandatory attendance at lectures, which are a rambling overview of the textbook he wrote. Excellent textbook, and exam questions are right out of the book.
he is very funny in the class.. but exams are very hard. u wouldnt read that details until you highlight them. he never cruves in his class, if u want to get a A, u have to work extremly hard in the class, in order to get a A, u have get over 95, if u below 95, u will get A-, i dont recommand him
One of the best professors that I have ever had. His classes are fun and interesting and not boring. He adds funny stories to his lectures that enhance the class.
he is a great prof., he knows his stuff, but his tests are challenging., at least he drops one so its not that bad.. after first exam you will understand his way of testing. You basically have to memorize everything in the book. But its very interesting class.. I'd recommend this class
Kaplan's classes are interactive and fun. The trick to his tests is not to just memerize the information but to put it into real life situations and actually understand them. To answer test questions don't just memorize definintions rather understand the material and be able to apply it to real life situations.
This was the best class I had my entire freshman year at Stony Brook. He makes the class very interesting because it is not just a lecture with 500 students, the students are actually able to particapate in class.
kaplan's awesome!
cool professor. gives hilarious examples in class. exams are a bit difficult tho - make sure u read the book (that he wrote) and watch the dvds! class is interesting too. if u do everything i mentioned above u should get above a B!
His lectures are interesting. The tests were quite fair. If you read, you'll do fine, but pay attention to details. Optional final.

Great professor. makes lectures fun and interesting. make sure to take every note and read every chapter for the exams. he is very helpful during office hours.
HIGHLY RECCOMMEND

Who cares if he's funny and loves his kids and talks about his daughter? At the end of the day, you better read the enter 1000 page book and know the answers. only D i got in 4 yrs at SBU. everything else A. ruined my gpa. hated that class!
he's always pulling up his pants cuz they keep falling down whenever he starts walking around, lol, but hes so funny and keeps class interesting
amazing teacher. i didn't think his tests were that bad but as long as you know your stuff your fine. he really explains well, loves what hes teaching, funny and has good stories. i reccomend him to everyone
Kaplan is wonderful. He is well organized. Interesting. And still feels that in a 500 person lecture hall you can conduct a discussion. Kaplan originated from SCC and I think that is what keeps him believing in class participation. If you do your reading (yes, all of it) you will score an A on his tests. He is truly a phenomenal teacher.
Wonderful teacher!!! Take one of his courses if you can. Don't miss such great teacher in USB.
Cool guy very informative in his lectures and sems like he cares
I had him and was also having a bad semester and when I went to him for office hours to explain to him what was going on he turned me away and gave me an attitude. I found him to be very egotistical and self involved.

always has a story to tell behind theories of psychology he teaches... then finds a way to tie it in with his life, especially his daugthers. most vivid memory would be prof. kaplan picking up his pants, adjusting the mike, always looking around the room, and moving his glasses.
he's soo funny, very interesting too. He tells all sorts of stories that make it easier to understand the concepts. Very easy to follow...actually looked forward to his classes every week
Prof Kaplan is a great teacher. He has so many funny stories, and this class in particular is very interesting. The tests were fair, just make sure you read the material and go to class. I would defintely take another class of his in the future.
He is a great teacher! he makes class very interesting. and of course you have to read and know the material. but guess what people.. you're in college now. don't complain because you didn't do well in the class because you decided just going to class should be enough. He's a wonderful teacher and makes it worthwhile to attend and pay attention.
Very interesting class, but you must do the reading in order to do well unless you're super smart. Kaplan is funny and doesn't take himself too seriously which is great. He's also very knowledgeable
approachable and funny. very friendly in and out of class. makes lectures easy to understand and clear. won't feel bored.
His tests are difficult and reading alone doesn't cut it. If you have to take the class make sure you do the practice questions in back of book, they help. Be prepared to work..also he drops one of the test grades so study early in the beginning so that you don't have to take the final.
AMAZING PROF! makes class sooooo much fun, i actually looked forward to goin... weird rite? his tests are hard and he doesnt curve but if u put the time in u can get a good grade
soo amazing. lectures are fun, interesting..he tells lots of great stories. He drops ur lowest test grade and the final is optional...wonderful to talk to and a very kind man all around.
Lots of reading as a result of the professor writting text which I admire. that shows passion in what he teaches. This man has a lot to say but can't organize thought. He can be intimidating because he teaches this class alot and this is his level of expertise. His exams are a mirror image of the quantity of info in lectures.
HE IS COOL
His class are real fun and he's a cool guy. Though his tests are pretty krazy. U gotta memorize the book and also read those supplements. Go to lectures and get the notes for a basic idea, he does questions from there too. Jus gotta do work, its not alot depending on the your ability to absorb his information, though it takes time
Kaplan has to be the best psychology professor at Stony Brook... psy 220 is good to take even if you're not a psych major... his lectures are very interesting... his tests are hard, so you have to work hard, but it's worth taking because you learn a lot
You have to read the book, watch the cds and look over the update and you'll be more than fine. The course is challenging without taking up your entire time. The grading policy is excellent and his lectures are actually interesting. I would definately recommend this class.
Don't waste your time...
dude's pretty cool. lectures are actually quite interesting. read the book and updates for tests and you're set. but studying for it can be a pain in the ass, cause he doesn't post any practice tests or nothing, neither do you get to keep the question papers after the tests... but other than that it's not so bad.
he is an amazing prof. classes are intersting. the only bad part are his tests. u need to invest quite a bit of time studying, and his test are hard. u basically have to know ur stuff backwards and fowards, but the info isnt tat hard so its def possible to do. overall really good, take his classes.
He is an awesome professor! You learn a lot about the class. He is very clear and might go a little fast but his TA's type his notes. You have to read the BOOK! iT HELPS OUT A LOT on tests. Don't just study his notes. And he takes attendance. He is an awesome teacher!
I really loved the class. The lectures were anything but boring! He's a cool professor, but he demands a lot from his students. The questions on his tests are very specific. Make sure you understand everything in the text and study the updates and even the content on the CD-rom.
The lectures are interesting, but his tests are tough. It is important to know and undertand everything, so it's necessary devote a lot of time to reading and studying. There's a lot of information to learn in a single semester. This is a good course though, and I learned so much.
i hated him!
Keep in mind the average student that takes his class gets a C as their final grade.. so if you think you are better than average then by all means take his class cause he is a fun lecturer..
Kaplan is def a funny professor. Reading can be a bit much at times. Test seem easy but for some reason you do not get the grade you thought you would get. As the other person commented, the avg grade in this class is a C, so if you want to laugh take this course, otherwise try to take it somewhere else to get a better grade!
Talks alot , goes off on tangents if you let him but is also one of the best speakers at stony brook. Class will keep you awake. Test are long.
This guy is truly the best teacher I've ever had. He wrote the textbooks for BOTH classes, and they correlated perfectly with his already-clear lectures. If you have an opportunity to take a class that he is teaching, or to hear him speak at a lecture, you would be insane to miss it - he's really one of a kind. I guarantee you'll love him.
best professor i've ever had. His tests may not be easy and you have to work for an A if you want one, but by far the most interesting classes i've ever had in 3 years. his classes are awesome and if you have a chance take them. but be warned, you will not get an A if you don't at least read or go to his class. his tests can be difficult
Professor Kaplan is the most interesting teacher I've had in a long time, he talks a lot but it's often related to the lesson. You can genuinely see that he loves what he does. You NEED to go to lecture (takes attendance) and read the text that he wrote because there's no other way that you can get an A, his tests aren't all easy. He's excellent!!!
awesome teacher..class is fun and he keeps you entertained..the tests are hard but if you keep up with the reading and study youll be fine..one of my favorite classes so far
Enthusiastic, engaging teacher. However, tests are pretty difficult as he tests on all of the assigned reading material (textbook, update, AND cd-rom material). Usually ends lecture 10 minutes early. Attend class and do your reading, otherwise it's pretty difficult to get a good grade.
he is more into himslef then anything. I do not feel liek he cares about anyone in the class we are all just numbers to him. is he a good lecture teacher yeah but then we get too side tracked when everyone has to ask questions and we waste 35 mins, i personally do not like kaplan i think he is a egoctisical stuck up snob who repeats himself always
AMAZING lecturer. Hard grader. Definately enjoyed the class though
He is fun and energetic. He keeps the class interesting. He does talk about his family a lot though.
He is one of the best prof. that I have ever had!! His test is not easy, but if you study hard and know the material, you'll get an A.
Amazing professor. He keeps the class interesting and entertaining. Big deal -- he talks about his family experiences because they help relate to the material, instead of using purely textbook examples that you could never personally relate to and therefore, never remember. 9/10!
impossible to get an A in his class. His exams are SO hard, for no reason. (not just in his 300 level classes, but the 200 level ones also). Very into himself, counts on his TAs for everything and really does not care how much effort you put in to learn the material- you'll still do terrible on his exams no matter how much you study.
The worst professor I have ever had a class with. Arrogant and ill informed. Prepare for torture.
The person who said it is impossible to get an A in Kaplan's class lied. Because I took 3 of his classes and got an A in all 3. If you read, and go to class you'll do fine. its the slackers who think that they can not read the text and not go to class, that complain about him. He is a great teacher. but you have to do work. welcome to college
He is a very nice guy, but one of the most unclear and opinionated professor I have ever had. No matter what you do, the tests are ridiculously hard!! Go to class, he takes attendance, everyday! I def don't suggest this professor to ANYONE, I wouldn't want to subject any other student to his test or one sided opinions! Avoid if possible!!!!
Great Prof. But exams are very hard. Good luck with him.
good lecturer, nice guy, but really hard tests. i studied very hard, read every chapter, made flashcards, took notes and will still only get a C or C+. fyi, the class avg. is a C, and he likes to keep it there. he drops 1 of four tests, but they are really hard tests. tricky & confusing questions left me disappointed b/c i know this material
It's true that he is a nice guy, tells some interesting stories during lecture. but BE AWARE : the exams are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT! I read ALL chapters assigned, ALL articles assigned and went to ALL lectures, and I'm still unable to get pass a 70 in his class (a C-). I talked to many other people and they have the same case. class avg = 68 (D+)
I loved this class! Kaplan is a great lecturer, and his lecture follows the textbook closely. Be sure to use the study guide that comes with the book, it's very helpful.
Kaplan is the place where A's go to die. I was a 4.0 student when I got to his class and I couldn't even get a B+ on 1 test. His tests are SO DIFFICULT! Tests are mult. choice and answers are VERY ambiguous. Lectures are pretty helpful but some class discussions go a little too long. Great class but if you're not a psych major it's VERY tough.
This class was hell. His exams are so ridiculously hard...if you can avoid this class or taking it with Kaplan, i would suggest that you try to do so! I took the practice exams online from the textbook (with the textbook in front of me) and i still got all C's. UGH! He's stuck-up, boring, and loves to hear his own voice. Good luck with this one
Nice guy. TA's as well as professor is very help full. Does require you to either pay close attention in class or just read the book. You can show up to the class sign in and leave (at the beginning or end), just read.
ok so i read all of these comments b4 taking this class & was so discouraged. 5 tests. Optional final, drops lowest grade. Attendance needed. Wrote the textbook, VERY FUN AND INTERESTING! so far 86 and 85 on first 2 tests. SO, if u study, youll be fine. everyone else are SLACKERS!!! =)
His tests aren't actually that difficult... There are usually about 70ish multiple choice questions which come DIRECTLY from the book and his lectures, so, as long as you read and ATTEND CLASS REGULARLY you should have no problem. He's really arrogant at times, but he knows what he's talking about.
REALLY HARD CLASS, EXAMS ARE UNNECESSARILY DIFFICULT, TRIES TO TRICK STUDENTS ON EXAMS DO NOT TAKE TAKE HIS CLASSES IF YOU ARE REGISTERED FOR ONE OF HIS CLASSES DROP IT IMMEDIATELY!!! IT WILL MESS UP YOUR GPA!
Lighten up! Drop the lowest grade=nothing Cus it's curved. Unless u plan to do well on the 1st,or easiest and omit the hardest exam. Plays PSYgame w. students. Deliberately gives out a self-grading guide which is 1 notch dif from the actual. Meaning u thought u were getting B- but u FEEL BETTER when u get B which is what u deserve in the 1st place.
Kaplan is great. I was nervous going into this class because everyone was telling me his tests were impossible what helped me a lot was doing those practice tests at the end of each chapter..and there's an online site with practice questions on it that's in the book. he's a brilliant man, take his class you'll learn a lot
Kaplan is a decent guy, decent professor, but he expects way too much independent reading from the students. the exams ARE difficult, but its up to you to read absolutely everything from the textbook before the tests..like 12 times. if you read, you'll most likely do well if youre a decent test taker. either way, its interesting stuff, you'll learn
read read read the textbook! & u'll do fine on his tests. tests arent that hard as some people complain as long as you read each chapter at least 2 times. he doesn't curve at all so take down the notes his TA types on the board & read and thats all u need to do well!! he teaches good & has interesting lectures.
This class, although the concept of adolescence is relatively easy, the class is not. The only necessary thing for the class is to read the text book 100x. The tests are very tricky, even if you feel you know the material.I don't recommend taking this class to anyone.
I know lots of people rave about Kaplan but since he has so many students, you are just a number to him. He knows his stuff like the back of his hand. If I was only taking his class and NOTHING else, then I would have a ball reading that long text, but people have jobs, classes and LIVES.
Cool professor who was able to break down the human mind into understandable terms. Also showing how PSY is very relevent and a serious subject while others consider PSY to be nothing more than a cake major.
AMAZING! every psych major should take at least one of his classes. you'll never have a better professor than kaplan! so nice, so helpful, really funny. class flies by so fast you wish it was longer. class is challenging but 100% worth it. you can't go wrong taking this class or his 220 survey class.
Greatest professor you'll ever have. Class is alot of fun and he shares alot of adorable stories. You can tell he's very passionate about what he does. However, the tests are very tricky, and you need to make sure you've read EVERYTHING assigned, and pay attention in class. Amazing lectures though, take Kaplan!
although he is a very intelligent man and def knows his stuff, he makes his exams extremely tricky. you can think you know the material very well but still do poorly on the exams. he makes it way too challenging for a 200 level, he thinks hes teach grade school with those exam questions. i have 400 level classes with easier tests!
Tests are incredibly hard. He wants you to read his textbook and his two UPDATES. He was absent several times and had his incompetant TAs teach the class. Goes really fast.
Dr. Kaplan was really funny during lectures but the lectures were basically the same as the textbook since he wrote the book. The tests were very difficult. You definitely have to memorize every tiny little fact in the chapters and the updates.
Plain and simple: His lectures were VERY interesting. He's really funny and tells alot of good examples of the material. I loved going to his lectures but when it comes to tests they are VERY hard. STUDY. Attendance isnt mandatory but helps curve your grade. 4 tests + final, only have to take 3 total. (i guess he knows theyre difficult).
Pretty interesting to listen to. Likes to tell stories about his grandchildren. Tests are mainly based on textbook and updates. Friendly if approached in his office. Very enthusiastic about teaching psych. Would recommend.
His test are hard. He does not care about the students, he passes around an attendance sheet. He is pretty funny, and interesting, but his TEST WILL FAIL YOU. The test are LONG,if you miss an exam because of weather, he will COMBINE EXAMS and make you take a test that is 130 multiple questions. His test are usually 60-70 all tricky mult. choice
everything he says in lecture is staright from the book. good sumerizatio of a whole chapter in just 1 lecture. very enthusiastic in teaching
i dont know what is wrong with everyone writing these comments but this is the EASIEST class. all i do is carefully read the textbook and i've gotten 99's on the last 2 tests. his tests ARE NOT TRICKY. there is no trick to them, they are actually really easy. just do all the reading, its impossible to fail
dr. kaplan's lectures are insteresting but his tests are based on the text that he wrote!!! i have been doing all the readings and my grades arent the best.as you read the text everything seems to be pretty straight foward but once you get to the test everything changes its like u never talked ou read anything about it!! i dont recommend him
Dr. Kaplan runs by far the most straight forward class I've ever taken here (as far as format). Take DETAILED notes on the text/readings, as your grade will reflect your memorization of the material. Read, come with questions, sit for exams, succeed; it's the way college SHOULD be. At least someone still knows how to teach around here.
Interesting class, interesting professor but his test are absurdly tricky. No matter how clear u are on the topics, the wording of the questions will make you lose hope.I don't recommend this professor if your looking to get a good grade because you only have tests to determine your level of understanding.DON'T DO IT!
awesome funny interesting professor!! recommend it to anybdy. even non-psych majors! i think the final was harder than any of the 4 midterms. READ the TEXT CAREFULLY! attendance no mandatory but might help you in the end cus he might give a little curve to those who attended class
His lecture is enjoyable, but his exams are not kind to you. Exams are not "hard" or tricky, but he asks you every single detail from the textbook he wrote. You want to carefully read the textbook, and remember every single detail so that you can do well. The cumulative final exam was the easiet even without studying a lot.
He's very interesting a nice guy, lectures are ineteresting since he gives alot of real life examples. His tests however, are near impossible and ask every single little deatil from the book, and he doesn't give a curve even when the class average is a C-/D+.
His classes are very interesting but you have to show effort. Go to his office hours and get him to learn your name, it makes a big difference in your grade. I got a third of a grade higher than I should have received. Go to his office hours and don't go too late in the semester!
Ridiculous! I'm shocked that someone would pass around an attendance sheet in JAVITS 100 and require attendance. Dreadfully boring, I actually caught myself daydreaming about chewing my own arm off because it would be more enjoyable than sitting in his class. Bleh!
This professor is one of the best teachers i have had. His lectures are always interesting..he passes out an attendence sheet and if u attend every lecture, he'll give you a boost on ur final grade..the tests can be tricky and you must read the textbook because the tests are very detailed, but not impossible...
Not a difficult teacher. must attend class and DEFINITELY READ THE TEXTBOOK!!! AND KNOW IT!!! I HAD HIM FOR psy 220 also and it wasn't bad either...YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK!!!
He's very good at telling stories in order to illustrate points. He keeps class interesting.
worst professor i believe oe could have. doesnt care about his students or their grades. do well on his tricky test or your screwed. your grade will never reflect how hard you worked. he's boring, carefree, and full of himself at times. DONT TAKE HIM
MUST read the textbook CAREFULLY. take good notes and you'll do well. final not mandatory. will only use it if it helps your grade. go to class - attendance required. funny professor LOVED him! go to office hours. if he knows you, he can make up for the one point difference between a B+ and an A
I wont lie, this course is difficult. You have to read the book again and again in order to master the material. You dont have to go to the lecture in order to well in this class but this professor is such a great lecturer. I LOVED going to his class, I learned the most out of his class than any other classes in Stony Brook.
Wish he never came back! What a disaster class! No matter how hard you study, how much you go to office hours it doesnt matter! Do not let anyone fool you! if you can take it with another professor definitely do so!! Textbook is deceiving b/c its easy to understand, tests are ridiculously hard and confusing. Stay away if you can!!
Very interesting class, but the tests are difficult. The course is not just words to memroize, u have to know all about the experiments etc. Its a pain but try to read textbook. Lectures are funny & entertaining. He's fair with grading though. Study HARD to do well on his tests though.
interesting/funny guy. takes notes on the book nd in class nd really u ll be fine. it takes some effort but it's easy material (just a lot of it). intro has a lil bit of evrything. it's doable nd the TAs were very helpful with review sessions nd study sheets that basically told u what was on the test specificcally. hes not an easy A but try it out
In order to do well in this class, you have to not only know your material, you must be able to apply the material into situations. What really helped me was taking the questions at the end of the chapers in the txtbk. I didn't get the grade I wanted, but I got the grade I deserved.
OMG this course was difficult. over 70 multiple choice questions to cover 4 chapters on each exam. BUT I managed to get a solid B+. You don't HAVE to go to class, though he sends around an attendance sheet, but his lectures make you laugh. You MUSTT read EVERYTHING to do well, skimming the chapter 2 days before the exam won't cut it. CLASS is good!
professor kaplan is a good professor and he really wants people to learn the material, if you are having trouble in the class i recommend going to office hours. it's not a hard class if you put in the work, but you really need to read the textbook well. attendance is not mandatory, and i wouldn't bother going, but he is a pretty good lecturer.
He was so awsome, he made class alot of fun and very enjoyable. His test are moderate but theres four test and he drops the lowest and the final is optional so that was a real plus factor when i took the class. I would deff reconmmend his class for people who are taking PSY 103.
DO NOt take this class if you want an A!!! because youll never get one!!! you might learn a lot and it might be interesting but its not worth it to ruin your GPA!!!
impossibly hard teacher. requires so much reading and on top of that you have to really really know the stuff. his quizes are so tricky and annoying.
class is very interesting but the tests are impossible. the wording of questions and the details you're required to know make them difficult. he's a good teacher though, i learned a lot.
Pretty good prof. exams can be hard if you don't study, but read the text, take good lecture notes and you'll be fine. Drops the lowest test grade which awesome (aka final is optional).
Incredible man, definitely cares about his students and makes himself available often. Exams are difficult, but he drops the lowest one. Attendance- not mandatory, but he does send around an attendance sheet. He wrote the text and it sounds just like his lectures, but you have to read it and study to do well. Funny, sweet man =]
Kaplan rocks! I love him so much. =))) His class was nice, he used the text book alot, but I never read and got along okay-ish. I like his lectures alot, he's very clear. His tests often reference things he specifically mentions in class, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, it helps alot. I suggest any class he teaches.
Very helpful- will answer all questions after class/in email. Book is MANDATORY- he wrote it. You do poorly if you don't buy his book, which I am not a fan of. Very good teacher otherwise. Should learn to lower his mic though.
good professor/good guy. class is interesting and not mandatory. tests are a little difficult/tricky...def have to read textbook to do well. overall, i'd say to take his class! you can tell that he loves teaching.
didn't like the class or his teaching at all. he seems like a good guy at heart but the class was boring and uninteresting, his tests are unnecessarily tricky, lectures are boring, just overall a bad experience taking his class. i'm sure many people may feel different but i regret taking his class.
This man may seem nice at lecture but very rude when you ask for help. He goes way too fast on slides and relies heavily on his book and lectures. Tests too long and hard and make no sense. Don't recommend this class. First class I've ever did bad in. Don't listen to these other people. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
hes a good professor. learned a lot. still got a bad grade though. if you're border line grade, he's willing to round up. get textbook, seriously. non cumulative midterms, but cumulative final. allowed to skip 1 exam. studied like hell, but still barely passed. very interesting subject though. guess psy's just not my calling.
This may seem like an easy going class at first, however, you have to work really hard and memorize his textbook in order to get an A. There is no curve and test questions are tricky. I would not recommend this class if you want to keep your GPA up.
He's a really nice guy, but I studied like a maniac for every test, made study guides that were 10 pages long and I still managed to get in the 60s and 70s. The text book is MANDATORY. He wrote it, you NEED it! Over all, he's willing to work with you, but it's a tricky class and not a class to take if you're worried about your GPA.
He is a really nice guy and def enjoys teaching. However, the tests are really tricky and you need to study the text very well (he wrote it). I definitely studied more for this class than others and still did not do as well as I wanted to. Attendance not mandatory, but he may give you a boost on your grade if you go.
I thank goodness I already had research in child devel. before taking this course, but I learned a TON. AMAZING lecturer, only con is the tests have multiple AMBIGUOUS Qs, 0 curve, but he does drop 1 of the 4 test grades. I did like 10x better than I thought reading the textbook inside and out-if you only care for GPA, meh. Learning? YES TAKE HIM!!
Kaplan def loves teaching, however he is also on an ego trip. He wrote the textbook that he uses for the class and you will find that some of his lectures are almost word for word from the textbook. Therefore YOU MUST read the textbook. His tests are always 70+ mulitple choice and it literally could be on ANYTHING. If TAs offer review sessions, GO!
hes a very interesting teacher, a lot of fun to listen to and watch. He wrote the textbook and you will do well if you study his book thoroughly. His tests are all multiple choice, difficult and pretty specific but fair. If you dont know the textbook cover to cover you will not do well. Don't take this class if you're not willing to read the book.
Very intelligent professor, keeps the class entertained and makes the material fun. You must read the book carefully and attending his lectures helps a lot. If you pay attention and read the chapters for each test, you should get a good grade.
The textbook is dense. If you do not read the book, you will most likely fail. Even if you do read the book, there's a slim chance you might pass with a decent grade. Everyone else I spoke to who took the class with me had a miserable experience. Exams are needlessly long and the final might as well be a book itself with about 120 questions.
also took him for 220 - he's an amazing professor & extremely entertaining, you won't regret coming to class. attendance helps your grade GREATLY. must read TB comprehensively, exams are pretty detailed. drops the lowest grade. you definitely must work hard for a good grade but his classes are so worth it.
This class is definitely worth taking. Kaplan is truly dedicated to what he does. He is passionate about what he's teaching and you can tell by his excitement when he teaches. He keeps the students captivated with his stories related to what he's teaching at the time. However, the class and tests are highly revolved around the textbook.
He's really smart.
hes a great prof, really knows what he's talking about. Lectures are interesting& he keps things entertaining. I've read previous comments& his tests arent impossible. If you take the time to read the tb thoroughly&study what you learned, the test are reasonable& fair. Do NOT take this class if you dont have a lot of time to put into reading the TB
He's a great teacher and he konws a lot.
Great teacher, this class is harder then 220, you have to read the book and go to class for an A. The exams are hard but he drops the lowest test and there is an optional final. Well worth taking.
I took this class because I aced his 220 class. WARNING- dont assume they are the same. He didnt write this textbook so you have to guess what you will be tested on and how. His lectures are too general and anecdotal while his tests are way too specific, expects you to remember ridiculous details. This class is not worth it, dont mutilate your gpa.
I love this man! He is so passionate about what he does & he is such a good professor as well. His exams are not that difficult if you read the textbook. Problem is most kids don't go to class, &/or don't read so they think it's hard. Go to class! It's actually fun and interesting, and it helps A LOT for the exams. I wish he taught every class here
Keeps lectures interesting with his own stories. However, course is VERY textbook heavy. You must read the book because he tends to skip some slides during lecture and assumes you read the book. The info on these slides also tends to end up on the following exam. He also doesn't post up slides on blackboard, so you better take notes / read book
absolutely loved Dr. Kaplan! He is clearly interested in what he teaches and is always very enthusiastic
Professor Kaplan loves the subjects he teaches and he is a really great professor. Some people probably find his class to be challenging because you think you know everything because he makes it so interesting and keeps your undivided attention but you must study hard and read the textbook to do well. His tests are fair but not easy. Awesome teache
Kaplan's lectures are so entertaining; he truly loves what he does. The class is very difficult however due to the fact that all the midterms go into specific details that is not just based on understanding concepts. The textbook is required and the lectures help a lot. Bring a laptop to class since he speaks very fast and go through slides quickly
I would say that it's nearly impossible to get an A in the class unless you are a thorough reader and are able to remember little details. The class is very enjoyable; Kaplan is by far one of the most enthusiastic and well spoken lecturers. He knows his material but he goes through a lot of material in class so get ready to write a whole lot.
I seriously think he's too hard on the gradings. Take it if you are ready to memorize everything in the textbook!
Experienced lecturer, gives helpful examples of each concept/term, funny. I've taken several psych classes, he is my favorite psych prof! Txtbk is necess, & should attend class. Exams are about 70 ques & not hard unless u don't read or memorize vocab. Chs are long, don't read in 1 sitting (but doable). No curve, drops lowest grade, optional final.
Great Prof. Great Course. Easy A if you do the reading (and are relatively intelligent)
doesn't give work other then to keep up with the reading in the textbook. tests are fair. relle nice person and makes class enjoyable
amazing professor ... loves what he teaches. very clear about what's on the exams and very straightforward questions. highly recommend!
Textbook is needed as his lectures can be quite broad. He also sometimes strays from the subject at hand but that's good since it's a 1 hr 20 min long class. He's very interested in what he teaches, but his tests can cover a big range. He also does not post notes on BB. Textbook is definitely needed if you want to get a good grade in this class.
Didn't care for this topic at all, but this became my favorite class. He clearly knows what he's doing/talking about, he is funny/cute and tells interesting stories. You have to go to lecture and read the txtbk. Rvw sheets for every exam! = got me an A. I wanted to t.a. for him but he's not coming back next semester. So sad =/
Probably one of the best teachers ive had here so far. He is a great teacher and keeps the class engaged and he loves what he does. He has great stories to keep you interested. To do well you must read the book, which he wrote. His tests were straight forward and if you read, you should be fine. I didnt go to class but was ok.
