I took business ethics with Paul Klein. He's a great professor; makes lectures really interesting, jokes a lot. You will love him. The class is easy as long as you attend his lectures. 2 exams (both from lectures, don't bother buying a text book) and a 5-page case analysis. Don't miss lectures!
Definitely one of the best professors at Pitt. Do whatever you can to take one of his classes, lectures are thought provoking, interesting, and the grading is very fair. Class is easy so long as you take notes during lecture and complete the readings before the test. Paul Klein is hilarious and awesome. Take his class.
Go to lecture. Write down everything he says. You will get an A. Klein's lectures are interesting. He is a smart and funny guy. Take the class, you won't regret it. I had it at 8am and still enjoyed it.
Awesome guy, good class, one of my better ones this semester. Go to lecture and take good notes and you should do fine on tests. If you are one to miss classes all the time, do not take him, you have to be their or you won't do well on tests.
He's not funny, he's hilarious. You will like being in his class. However, he doesn't respond to emails and generally doesn't care about the class. Write down everything he says, make an awesome cheat sheet that your allowed to bring in and you will get an A since he is such an easy grader. You don't actually learn, but if you want an A take him
Take ethics with him. He is extremely funny and laid back. Allows you to bring a cheat sheet for the exams. Easy A if you go to class. Don't need the book, but you need to write down everything he says.
Awesome teacher. Very funny and easy. He made ethics enjoyable and is a great guy.
Klein is by far one of the best professors at Pitt. Awesome sense of humor. He's hilarious. He only teaches night classes, and I say attendance is mandatory because much of his exam material comes from discussions in lecture. His exams are all essays, but he grades fairly. Incredibly easy class, and he makes the material very interesting.
All these reviews are good which is why i took him. i went to every class read every article and ended up with a terrible grade on the first test. gives u a cheat sheet for the test which i had. tests were 10 essay questions and he only gives u an an hour and fifteen minutes (i had a night class) which seems unreasonable. VERY BORINGGGG. DONT TAKE!
Professor Klein is an awesome and hilarious lecturer. Despite taking his course as a 2.5 hour night class, I was never bored and found the material very interesting and helpful. If you go to class and write down everything he says, the tests are a breeze and there is very little work you need to do outside of class. Definitely recommend him!
Attendance is necessary, class was more work than I thought it would be (to get an A) but a great lecturer and kept me interested.
I waited a year to take this class because I heard Klein was a good professor. The class turned out to be worth the wait. Yes, you do have to go to every class and take very detailed notes, because everything on the exams comes from class. But, if you go and take notes, there's no way you'll end up with less than a B. Definitely recommend.
So many good reviews for what reason? Grades subjective and tests arent easy for time given. Watched 10 people walk out of the class after he gave the first test back. Be ready to study like crazy for a joke of a teacher who just rambles. have fun
Klein is a really nice, funny guy. He tries to make the lectures interesting and engaging which makes a 2.5 hour night class much more bearable. He also never uses the full time as well which is nice. Tests can be difficult, tough grader and very subjective material. Take great notes and go to every lecture. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK!
LISTEN PEOPLE: TAKE. THIS. PROF. The best professor I have ever had. He's funny, fair, engaging and overall a great person. I loved going to this class-- I had it at 9:30 and can honestly say that I woke up genuinely excited to go. Paul Klein is the one for you!!!!!
Klein is a really funny guy which makes any lecture better. Brings a lot of experience to lecture. The class is based around paying close attention in lecture and reading his articles, no need for the book you can find it online. The material is subjective, but if you're a good writer and listen to what he is looking for you will be fine. Great guy
Professor Klein is probably one of the most enjoyable professors to listen to, but doesn't have any lecture slides so notes are very necessary. Gives you a cheat sheet for the first exam, and the final is multiple choice. Got a 100% on the case study and first exam - it's pretty much laid out for you
total stand up guy, heads up though if you miss give or take 3 lectures you will most likely not be happy with your grade.
Definitely suggest this professor!! Very interesting and enjoyable professor. He is also very understanding. Exams are simple if you attend class, take notes, and study. Usually allows you to use a page of notes for the exams, as well.
The lectures are very intersting but you have to make sure that you do the readings before the class so that you can involve in the discussion. Take notes for everything he said then you will get a good grade.
Paul Klein is the man. His lectures are awesome and he's hilarious. I had him for ethics. Be sure to read the material and take notes in class to prepare for his exams. Exams were easy as long as you read. He's pretty straightforward with what he expects. One of my favorite professors at Pitt so far.
I honestly have no idea how anyone liked him. I think he is a nice person, but his class is the most boring hours of my week. Seriously. I go to class and do well in his class, I just think its awful.
Professor Klein is relatively good. Nothing to rave about - lectures seem long and boring. Textbook not needed at all to succeed. 2 exams, 1 quiz, and a paper. Not too much work. Exams can be kind of challenging, overall average was like a 60-70. Make sure to study lecture notes and review the articles given on Blackboard. Definitely go to lecture!
Professor Klein is easly one of the best professors at Pitt. He keeps his lectures fun and entertaining, and it's very easy to get a good grade in this class. You don't really need the book and as long as you read the passages he assigns (which are very manageable) you'll do fine on the exams. Strongly recomend you take him if you can.
You will get an A if you go to class. If you skip class, probably not. Exams are based on specific things from class, not in the reading. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Awesome professor, very funny and not at all what I was expecting. One of the best I've had at Pitt.
Klein is pretty chill and a good professor. Some lectures were really boring, others were funny and it was definitely hard not to pay attention. 2 tests, big quiz, big paper. You must go to class if you want a good grade. He gave most people 100s on the paper, so don't stress too much about that.
Klein is a really great guy and gives great lectures. He is a good storyteller and makes you want to listen. He's funny and seems to enjoy teaching. He creates an environment where everyone's opinions are respected and he is a great mediator. Thoroughly explains concepts if you ask. The material is a little dry but he makes it interesting.
Paul Klein is one of CBA's best professors, by far. Be sure to attend lecture and take good notes, pay attention and the exams will be easy.
I think so highly of Paul Klein, he's my favorite professor so far. Take him for ethics and you'll be entertained. Just take notes in lecture and read the articles and the exams will be fair. He's extremely laid back and makes lecture actually worthwhile.
Klein is literally my favorite professor yet. His stories are hilarious. I had him at 8am, and he still managed to not only keep me awake, but actually enjoy going to class. Highly recommend!
Very lecture heavy. Very vague grader and gives little to no feedback. Also impossible to know how you're doing in the class. Never puts grades into course web. Very nice guy but would recommend another ethics professor.
Klein a solid choice. He is really funny but his humor can get old fast. He essentially lectures everything so if you don't go to class you are screwed. Really dumb group project but he grades it very easy. The Exams are super straight forward and easy. The content can be interesting but I think we get off topic a lot.
Paul is a super nice guy and a decent professor. He absolutely knows that no one is too interested in the class and tries his best to make it bearable for the students, although it does get boring at times. There are only two exams, 40 questions mostly multiple choice. Not a hard class, not a fun class, kinda just there.
He basically gives everyone a 100 on every non exam assignment. His exams are not the hardest, but they quote the in class articles word for word. Try to go to every class and read the articles, take notes on both. If he repeats something, it is gonna be on the exam word for word. At no point will you know your grades, but hes a really nice guy.
Klein is a super nice guy, and the class material is almost all dependent on info in lectures, including his stories. Are article readings, but he covers what you need to know. Two pretty easy tests based on notes. Is a group project with 6-7 people, just do the project and everyone gets above a 90%. Overall a great guy and a fun sense of humor!
Klein was a solid choice for ethics but he makes you work for your grade. There are weekly readings and analogies from class that are really important to doing well on the exams. While class could get a bit stagnant, I liked how Klein incorporated current events in the business work into class.
Take Paul for ethics if you can! His lectures are kinda all over the place but he's hilarious and kind. Take notes and put effort into the projects and you'll do great.
He is between a 3 and 4 quality. He left us in the dark with our grades almost all semester, and I do not know what i got on the final or the final project. Lectures are sometimes tough to follow but can be entertaining. Two group projects, a paper, the final and participation are your only grades. Not a difficult class, but can be frustrating.
Klein never responded to a single email I sent him this semester. Although I received an A, I do not know the actual grade I got on a single assignment. He is engaging in class, but had easily the worst communication skills of any teacher I've had in my life.
Wow, I don't even know where to start, what a horrific professor. He's so boring and just rambles on and on about random stuff the entire time. You can't take notes & you barely ever learn anything. You don't know your grades for the entire semester and the whole content for the course is stuff I suspect someone just sat down and made up. AVOID!!!
Class is not tough though you probably won't know your total grade until after the final exam. Material is not tough and grade is based off of 2 group projects and 1 exam. Solid professor for the class, he's funny but class is lecture/presentation heavy and can get boring at times.
Professor Klein is an amazing person and an even better professor. The class is super easy as long as you pay attention and participate. He doesnt ask for much aside from this. He gives great feedback and really makes you think about some things. Would 100% take this professor for any class
I love this dude. His lectures are so interesting and he has the funniest anecdotes. Just come to class, listen and do the work, it's so manageable, very healthy workload. Take him!!!
Pretty good option. Attendance is not mandatory but you should probably still go. 2 group projects which were easy but the only complaint is the final. It was a 40 open-ended exam with only an 1 hr and 15 minutes to complete which most kids did not finish.
No hw, only 2 group projects, a short paper, and final. Your notes on what he says in class + the readings are all you have to prep for the exam. He's an easy grader tho and lenient w/ partial credit for the test. Go to class, study hard before the exam, and you'll be fine. Class discussions were engaging, relevant, and applicable to everyday life
He is one of the funniest and most engaging people ive ever met. He is so sweet and cares about his students. Theres two presentations that he is a very easy grader for, and a final that is manageable. I looked forward to going to this class so much. Klein is an incredible professor and human. Please take him.
The entirety of the class was group projects and a final exam. Klein's lectures were great with connections to the real world and how it could relate to our futures. His teaching demonstrates his knowledge and passion of business ethics. I wish he gave us a clear outline for the final since there was a lot of readings that would be covered on it.
If you enjoy a higher education indoctrination then this is the class for you. Topics lie overtly on one side of the political spectrum. You will not get anything new from the class whatsoever. Just pounding the same ideology into your brain endlessly. Klein is interesting teacher and very funny but the material is absolutely worthless.
very disorganized class is relatively easy until the final.
Professor Klein was a very funny and experienced professor. Discussions in class were always lively and interesting. Only assignments for the whole semester were a brief 2 page essay, 2 group presentations, and a final exam. As long as you read the articles he puts in canvas you'll do just fine in this class.
Never answers emails. Don't know what grade you have in the class the whole semester. Final is needlessly hard.
klein is knowledgeable but some lectures seem to drone on and on. 2 main group projects which aren't bad - just start early on them. final is 40 open ended in 75 mins so very tough to finish and he never gives specifics on what the final will be like (nor does he release final exam grades). you'll never know your overall grade until grades are due
Paul was fine. He harshly penalizes missing a single class and being late. Not hard to get an A. Lots of class time wasted on watching group presentations. He makes questionable comments at times but overall seems like a good guy.
Professor Klein is one of my favorite professors. He has a lot of different work experiences, such as being an attorney and working in the corporate world, and he is also a local politician. He is definitely be lecture heavy but he keeps it light and wants you to succeed. 2 very doable group presentations that he grades generously and a final exam.
The canvas page is a mess. All docs go into the files tab with no organization. He does not use the gradebook so you have no clue what your grade is at any point in the semester. He chooses project groups to be as uncomfortable as possible (all men for a case on sexual harassment of a woman, all white people for a racial discrimination case, ect.)
Paul seems nice. He threatens to drop you an entire letter grade for missing a single class OR being late. Not hard to get an A if you're there on time. The hybrid format of in person and online lectures were helpful. Wasted tons of class time watching group presentations. Makes ...questionable comments at times
He talks a lot. The only graded assignments are a short paper, two group presentations and a final exam. The first three are easy but the final exam is pretty much impossible. He's also admitted he grades that exam differently for students he likes.
Makes you do 12 person presentations which is impossible to coordinate. The final exam is impossible, 40 short answer and mc but the mc you have to explain your reasoning. He is inaccessible outside of class, and doesn't follow through with things he says he'll remember when you talk to him in class. Class is based on his opinions WORST CLASS EVER.
This was one of the most difficult classes I've ever taken. He expects too much out of his students and is not accessible outside of class. Final exam was absolutely impossible with 40 mc all open-ended and only 75 minutes to complete it. Do not take this class unless you want a huge stressor put on your life.
Professor Klein is outstanding. His class is very straightforward. There is one short paper that is easily graded, two group presentations, which are very easy, and a final exam that is multiple choice and short answer which is not hard if you pay attention throughout the semester and study for the exam. Lectures are fascinating and he is hilarious
Paul is by far the worst professor I have had yet. He is a nice guy but you don't know your grade for the entire semester and he just talks about random stuff during lecture. He does not know how to use Canvas and just doesn't seem to care much about his students. His final is unnecessarily difficult and he just puts in random grades. Don't Take.
Graded by very few assignments and an impossible final exam.
He will spend most of the class talking about random stuff. The class is mostly determined by an extremely difficult final of which he gives 0 criteria and prep for. He also has you do presentations throughout the semester where he will blatantly not pay attention to you and then give you a random grade based on if he likes you or not.
Going to class is required yet a waste of time. Class is pretty easy until the final exam, but you never know your grade in the class and he arbitrarily assigns final grades. Doesn't use Canvas and is unclear on final exam expectations. Don't recommend.
Professor Klein, while being a fairly nice guy, is a difficult professor to have. He tracks attendance through some arbitrary means, doesn't update canvas at all, and his final is very vague in its requirements. The saving grace is the fact that the final is only 25%, plus two group projects for 50%.
Don't even bother trying or showing up to class. The final is the only grade that matters, and you never see what you got on it. He just gives everyone a B in the class as a final grade. I had over 100% (with extra credit) going into the final and ended with a B.
Don't take him. Class is a waste of time, with over half of the classes being group presentations about topics that aren't on the final. He doesn't use canvas, and rarely responds to emails. The final is overly difficult. Learned nothing about ethics from this class.
HORRIBLE professor. Professor Klein did not even bother to use the canvas page throughout the whole semester, so we had no idea what our grades in the class were. We had 2 group projects which he randomly grades based off if he likes you or not. The final exam in this course was IMPOSSIBLE with too many questions to even finish it. DO NOT TAKE!!
Great lecturer, but gave no feedback the entire semester. I had no idea what my grade was going to be until the day they were finalized.
Easily the worst professor I've had in my academic career. Inaccessible both in and outside of the classroom, seems to just arbitrarily throw out grades, and refuses to hear any opinion that doesn't align with his, IN AN ETHICS CLASS! He also begged students to donate to the Peter Singer Foundation and was offended when they refused.
Professor Klein was by far the worst professor I have had at Pitt. He was extremely disorganized, with a canvas page that didn't exist, and unclear directions for assignments, presentations, and the final. The final is impossible, 40 open-ended questions on nonsense stories he referenced all semester. Avoid at all costs.
Most hate this prof bc grades aren't visible & they didn't LISTEN, leading to bad grades. Very possible to succeed: Take NOTES during EVERY lecture; what he SAYS WILL be on exam + know cases. LIMITED exam time, USE a READABLE cheatsheet. Follow rubric & DEFEND YOUR claims in projects. The more research you have, the easier it is to perform well.
You won't know your grade until grades are posted. Your grade is how you do on an impossible final exam. Do not recommend him at all.
No exams other than the final which was ROUGH. It was multiple choice but you had to explain your answers, and it dropped my A+ to a B. Other than that, group projects were easy and it was interesting hearing everyone's perspectives. Paul was so sweet and shared many of his own stories.
Two big group projects, interesting lectures mostly with personal stories and some good jokes.
funny guy, but easily the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. Didn't post a single thing on canvas the entire semester, you can't reach him outside of class, and he goes off on tangents about irrelevant subjects.
Paul Klein isn't just funny — he's hilarious. An amazing professor. Honestly, it feels like he's just there to have fun, but he still teaches really well. And the guy has serious charisma — like, a lot of it.
Very disorganized canvas page and difficult af final. His exam is what he lectures on and he makes attendance mandatory. He's very unclear when it comes to knowing your current grade, and you find out till the very end. Group projects can be tedious and can take a majority of the semester. I'd suggest another professor.
While I hear people complain about his class, Paul Klein is far from a bad professor. He is very nice and challenges preconceived notions held by students. However, his class is also not easy. Don't fall behind on reading, and (even though he doesn't take attendance) I recommend showing up to lecture as much as possible. Very good professor!
The class is based on 2 group presentations and a final. He gives very good grade on the presentations but the final was very hard. The canvas is basically useless, and you won't know your grade until the last day. Very nice person, teaches many sections in a semester but will remember everyone's name.
He was not communicative whatsoever. We are graded on very few things and much of the grading on the exams seemed to be pretty arbitrary. He did not even post our Final Exam grades and rather just posted our final scores to the University which is frustrating. Avoid taking him as a professor if possible.
Lectures are mandatory because Klein doesn't post much on canvas, I think if you don't take this class seriously you will probably fall behind quickly and there isn't much chance to catch back up
