He lost half of my papers and only gave me partial credit for the ones I could find. I got a D+ in the class when I got an A- on the final. Does that make sense to you?

arrogant, felt his opinon was the only one that mattered, told me i didnt know th stories when i have learned them in sunday school since i was little
Pompous ass. Actually thinks he is God. Limitless on his babble and completely useless when you need help!
Okay, so he is kind of arrogant, but he is very helpful. He's also really funny if you're paying attention.
Not a gifted teacher, but with some excellent moments. Assignments were a little advanced for most people in the class. Class was supposed to be on writing research papers; we ended up reading and writing personal essays. How can you do research on an autobiography? But really knows his stuff when it comes to good writing in general.
Expects a quite a bit of work. But mostly useful stuff, and his is pretty funny.
Occasionally less than clear. Always willing to clarify. Asks quite a bit of students, but it pays off in the end. Do NOT take this guy if you don't want to work. But, if you do, expect to learn something--although not always what you expect. Also funny, if you pay attention.
I have to think of something to say, something terrible. There are no words for the quality of this class, but if there were they would be along the lines of, oh I don't know, repulsive, horrendous, dreadful, and a shame to the wonderful English language. Knox is a sorry excuse for a teacher, and an arrogent prick at that.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He grades with complete bias, doesn't explain the grades he has given you, gives you far to much work for this class level, is practically impossible to meet with, and he is completely condescending. I highly suggest switching to another professor if you are already signed up with Knox.
ATTENTION, POTENTIAL KNOX-CLASSTAKERS. You should ignore most of these reviews. He is NOT a horrible teacher. He is so good it's unlike anyone I've taken. People write this because he is very difficult. If you are up for the challenge, you will become better than you ever have been if you try. Go to community college if you want someone easy.
Knox is a very tough teacher. His "higher-level" of teaching I felt was unsatisfactory. He does have bias oppinions, and I feel that he was not very personable like a teacher should be. This class was a TON of work to even try and get an average grade in. My suggestion: Take another class for this one will take up all of your time.
Hated this class, and the Professor. Very cocky and rude. Does not grade fair. I would not recommend him to anybody I know.
Paul is a great teacher, I had him this last semester and he was a fun guy to listen to and his humor was rather entertaining. He really is not that difficult and he grades essays and test fair. The only think I would ask him him to do is cut back on the profanity a bit!
Seriously just stay away
Paul Knox is an excellent teacher. He is probably one of the most intelligent individuals I have ever met and knows his subject inside and out. But the main reason I liked this class is because his lectures were presented very logically and were easy to follow. I learned so much in this class! Also, the guy is hilarious! I highly recommend him.
Nice guy, well put-together class. He does require a lot of work, particularly reading. Use the lecture notes 'study guides he provides. They cover everything that is likely to be ion the test except for the passage IDs, but then again he mentions these in class.
Knox gives great lectures and works to involve studnents in the class discussion. His tests are easy if you pay attention. Use the study notes he gives you, do the reading, and note the passages he reads in class. He is a bit tough when it comes to grading the short essays, but A's are certainly possible.
Nice guy, well put-together class. He does require a lot of work, particularly reading. Use the lecture notes 'study guides he provides. They cover everything that is likely to be ion the test except for the passage IDs, but he mentions these in class. The essays can be tough, so spend some time revising them and go beyond the lecture notes.
Prof. Knox clearly loves literature and works hard to make the material, accessible, stimulating, and enjoyable. He stresses attentive reading and well reasoned arguments. Expect to work hard in the class, but he is very easy to reach. Beware of his lectures though, he talks fast, makes good points, and He is pretty funny if you listen closely.
Knox asks quite a lot of his students. He expects you to come to class having done the reading and to think about the papers you write. He also gives quite a lot. He is very easy to reach by email, though give him 48 hours on weekends to respond, he distributes comprehensive lecture notes, and is always willing to help with an essay.
Knox works hard to get the best out of his students. He'll expect you to think about the material you read, to have opinions and to suppor them.
Knox requires you to do your work and come to class having done the reading. He is fairly strict on due dates but willing to work with you if an emergency comes up. He gives good, slightly odd lectures and requires student participation in class. Expect to work, to laugh, and to think.
Nice guy. Asks for a decent amount of work. If you have trouble, ask. He'll work hard to help you.
Nice guy, knows his stuff, chooses both canonical and non-canonical readings. Expect to do quite a bit of work and to learn a fair amount. Make sure you follow the attendance policy; it can be a bear.
Great teacher. Stay on top of the weekly quizzes and use the lecture notes as study guides and you'll do fine.
Knox asks quite a bit of his students. However, he gives you some leeway about when assignments are due. He also makes heavy use of WebCT, so don't take his class if you are uncomfortable with computers. on the whole, I would recommend him to friends, which tells you all you need to know.
I just had to say that I don't understand the previous comment. Knox is not teaching 102. In any case, I've never had a problem with him, and I am an attractive female.
Doesn't like women? This doesn't make much sense. I found Knox to be very respectful towards women in the class.
Paul Knox plays favorites. He is disrespectful, he is biased in favor of students that he likes, and he is extraordinarily opinionated. If he does not agree with what you say, he will ignore you. I DO NOT RECOMMEND him as a professor. He is not as smart as he thinks he is, and is very pretentious.
I took CH 201 with Knox and I really enjoyed the class. I felt as if he really knew his material, and he went out of his way to help with students who needed it. The corny jokes were a plus, and the work load really wasn't bad at all. I am recommending him to all my friends.
Loved the class. However, you have a LOT of reading to do so make sure you stay on top of it or you will have a VERY hard time with this class. Also there is a lot of WebCT use so make sure you keep track of that, too. Overall I thought he was a competent and helpful teacher. I would highly recommend Knofor CH 201.
Paul is knowledgeable, funny and extremely accommodating. He kept the class very structured using Webcampus and made lectures interesting. Quizzes were easy, as were unit tests. I got an A.
Knox is a great teacher. He made boring-ass literary theory and made it very interesting. He likes to use youtube to help convey his points and I found it to be super helpful. Stay on top of the reading and the class is easy. Knox makes it fun and he completely changed my mind about literary theory.
Paul works hard to make difficult concepts as clear as possible. One warning though: he expects you to be a thoughtful writer and will push you to develop your ideas. He also expects your papers to be well-written, so don't do them at the last minute.
knox is a pretty easy professor. weekly assignments online and a major research paper due at the end of the semester, but the overall workload isn't too bad. make sure you do the readings before class because he likes to make sure everyone talks. lots of discussions. he is pretty funny too. i would definitely recommend him.
I do not like Professor Knox. His lectures are awkward, wasteful, and do not pertain to the curriculum being taught. This should really be an online class, its really easy and so boring.
The person who said that Knox's lectures were "boring" and "wasteful" must have been asleep for 85% of the class. Knox does ramble a bit, but he ties each reading, video, and discussion back to how to write a strong academic essay. As to him being too easy, I have no idea what the other poster is referring to. Knox grades fairly but RIGOROUSLY.
The main downer for this class are the essays. He wants your essays to basically be as liberal as possible while beating down on conservative views. His discussions are confusing, boring, ultimately pointless. Bad instructor, I highly recommend another.
I just read a post that said that Knox is ultra-liberal and does not accept other points of view. This makes no sense. He works hard to push both liberal and conservative students to develop their ideas. Perhaps some students aren't used to having to think and mistake assertion for argument. / Knox teaches a challenging, fair and interesting class.
What? Knox forces students to be liberal? I think not! He asks questions that challenge easy assumptions and requires students to develop their arguments. This does not make him unfair. It makes him a good teacher. Note, not everyone will agree with you. The trick is to bring the other side around. Knox helps you do that.
Knox works enormously hard to help his students do well. He is a rigorous grader, but the class is set up so that if you do your work and think, you will earn an "A" or a "B."
A nice guy. Expect to work
This guy rude and sarcastic in a rude kind of way sometimes, Reall HARSH grader. He acts and grades it like CH classes which he does teach. Expect to read and write A LOT! Be prepared to be marked down on grades if you express any opinions that are conservative, you have be be a liberal to get a good grade in the class. Pick a different teacher!
I'm surprised by the comment on 5/10 that Knox is a bad teacher. First, Knox didn't teach 102 this last semester, so somebody is holding a grudge. Secondly, I was in his class. Knox asks students to think and to support their positions but he doesn't force anyone to be liberal.
He's a really nice guy. I found his class to be a little boring at times because of the readings, but overall he's not a bad guy to have as a teacher. Expect to work though.
Dr. Knox is a challenging professor who works hard to make sure his students do as well as they are able on the assignments. More importantly, he works to make the material relevant.
Dr. Knox is a nice guy. He does ask hard questions though. So be sure to read and to THINK!!!
My advice to you is to try to take another teacher if you can help it. He had very little office hours (less than one hour per day), asked really difficult questions that were almost incomprehensible, and expected way too much out of his students. It seemed like I was in a higher level English class that I really was.
Dr. Knox is a great/interesting teacher! He does ask a lot of his students and requires a crap load of reading/writing, but ultimately the class is pretty easy. If you show up, do the work, and pay attention you can easily get a B or higher. People complain because they don't want to do the work, but the last time I checked, we were in COLLEGE!
His lecrtures were awesome, I have no complaints there. However, he assigned WAY TOO MUCH READING!!! Also, he was very unclear about his expectations for assignments.
He made an easy class a pain. ALL of my homework for this sem. was from his class. His grading is tough and i had to work hard even to get a c. I would never take this class again and you should not either.
This course requires a great deal of reading and writing. The writing had to include citations for every piece of evidence you introduced. You will be asked to think critically in class and not just regurgitate answers. He is pretty funny, although most didn't seem to get his humor. Be prepared to work to get an A.
Good and interesting lecturer. Tough grader. Homework is definitely time consuming. Lots of reading and writing. If you go to class and listen to lectures, you should easily be able to get at least a B in the class.
A demanding but fair professor.
Horrible teacher! Do not take him! He may be smart and can try to help students understand but he is a harsh grader. I am an A student who did all my work and was still threatened to fail the class. Worst teacher I've ever had. He expects near perfection it seems; seriously only take him if you're planning to get a Ph.D in English.
Tough and fair grader. Expect to read and think. Do not let yourself get behind on the course work.
Dr. Knox is a smart and well informed professor who will help you to develop your writing. He will expect you to work hard (3-6 hrs/week of homework). If you can devote the time and are willing to work, take the class. If not, you should take some other class.
Definitely in my Top 5 of worst professors I have ever had. Very liberal in his views and doesn't accept satire or non-liberal views. I got a B+ but that was only because I wrote what he wanted to see not what I wanted to write. I would advise not taking his class if possible.
You will have a lot of reading to do. Makes sure you really pay attention to it. If they refer to someone in the reading you HAVE to look them up because you will have discussions the day after and if the class isn't answering many questions you will get a pop quiz. Do all of the discussion board posts that are easy, because they'll get harder
This class was ridiculously hard for an English 102 class. Topic was Rhetorics of Dissent... yeah. Knox is so strict and not helpful whatsoever. There are pointless assignments throughout the semester, and there are SO MANY ESSAYS. Just don't take him if possible.
Yes this class was hard. but you get used to it. Knox is willing to help if you need it. Hes actually really nice, dont get too intimidated! do all your work if you want an A, especially all the readings. DO IT! itll help you on ur essays. you do get to learn a lot in this class, very productive. if you just want an easy A, this is not for you.
This class is dificult. Honestly you will have to work very hard for your grade. However, this professor does notice hard work, and if you make the effort your grade will reflect it. Ask for help when you need it and don't take any assignment lightly. This class will give what you put into it
Dr. Knox is very intelligent, and unfortunately expects his students to already be at his same intelligence level. This is the most difficult general ed class I have ever taken. Lots of confusing readings, and you have to stay very organized, even though he doesn't. I do not recommend this teacher at all.
Dr. Knox is challenging, no doubt. He trusts his students to be curious and engaged and assigns readings and assignments that push students to think and write from new perspectives. People interested in an easy "A" should NOT take his class. People who want to learn should. Also, if you have questions, ask. Dr. K. will go out of his way to explain.
Dr. Knox's class is not an easy A. He makes you work and will question you when you speak in class. You need to be interested in the subject before hand. You also need to read and make sure your arguments are tight. He is a good instructor.
Dr. K. is not an easy grader. He expects u to work hard. If u do, u will learn.
Knox definitely expects a standard from his students at a college level like it should be. Add your two cents in discussion, prepare for class, and contribute in group projects. He's very knowledgeable and if you put forth the effort, you'll become a better writer. He's tough, but reasonable and appreciates perspective.
No feedback with essays. All we did was read and analyze.
I have no idea what that last poster was talking about. Everything we do in Knox’s class is tied to writing. And we write something and get feedback on it at least once a week.
i wouldn't recommend this teacher. he's pretty hard and can be confusing at times. all you talk about in class is the readings, and it gets old really fast. he's not very helpful with your essays, either.
As the last comment says, yes you talk about readings quite a bit in Knox’s class. And as you do so, you talk about writing too. In fact, I don’t know what the problem is. You should have conversations in class about the course material.
His class was the only class I have ever hated. I would pray for him to cancel class. The only thing I learned while in this class was a spite for English and a thankfulness that English doesn't have to do with my major.
Dr. Knox was honestly the best teacher I have ever had. Going into the class from high school I had trouble adjusting the work load. After attending class and discussing topics it became more clear. Dr. Knox helped me become a better writer than I have ever been. He is very engaging and makes the class fun. He's a great guy and great teacher.
Dr. Knox is a very nice person but the way he grades is outrageous. He told us that he hardly ever gives As on papers and that's true. If you are looking for an easy class this isn't it. If you want to be challenged and actually learn something then this class is for you. Do all of the readings and visit the writing center. You might have a chance.
While he does care for English with a passion, he seems to believe this General Ed course is something that it's not. He should be teaching a higher level course where the workload he insists on might be necessary. His tendency to undermine his students hinder his teaching ability.
The Craft of Research can be found online, and we didn't really use The Everyday Writer other than for citations. I enjoyed the readings, but they are definitely at a higher level than you would probably expect. This class is a work load (I spent 3-9 hours each week!), but worth it if you like a challenge and want to become a better writer.
Knox shouldn't teach this class, he makes you not want to take any other English class ever. I am going into my third year and still, he is the hardest I ever had. I wouldn't suggest him to incoming freshman. Wayy too high of expectations for the level, this class is an unreasonable amount of work.
The class was a challenge, though it was well worth it. Dr. Knox provides students with clear objectives for most assignments and offers feedback for all essays students have to write. Overall, the class was time consuming, but very helpful to improving my writing.
A nice professor. He expects engaged students. Provides excellent feedback on papers smart and funny lectures and many dumb jokes. A great class if you want to learn a bad class if you want to skate by.
He gives out quizzes on the texts if no one brings them, they are however graded on whether or not you follow the prompt on a checkno check verdict. He also treats the class like it is the only one you are taking; there are weekly assignments and full texts to read in a very short time. But he is still funny and will give you help if you ask.
Do not take unless you have interest in English. Grades tough, like a real college course. If the class doesn't participate he busts out a pop quiz! But extremely passionate about the subject, gives excellent feedback, cares about his students, tries to be funny(sometimes it works) and you will definitely learn in his class.
Attendance is mandatory, he's a hard grader, and expects that your life is just about this class. This class sucks and is hard
Paul is a very nice man who seems to be passionate about English, however his approach to teach it is very un-effective. He assigns work like his class is the only class you have and often provides readings that are 20 pages long and useless. Saying all this he expects a lot from students and is very honest with how he feels.I would not recommend.
He asks for quite a bit of work, but it is a 5 unit class. The essays are long, but it is college.
Nice guy. Hard work.
Cares about English a great deal. Gives you time to be smart and expects you to be.
Knox asks a lot of his students. But he gives a lot, too. Have a question, stop by his office hours. He'll work with you until you understand. But this can backfire. He trusts his students to ask question. If they don't he assumes you understand. He also expects you to say interesting things clearly in essays. Get ready to go beyond summary.
Knox asks a bunch of his studetns. Be ready to work hard. Don't take this class if you don't plan to work, don't want to write, or don't want to think. Take this class if you want to be treated like an adult, given thoughtful feedback, and challenged.
Dr. Knox wants you to do well and expects you to work hard. NOT an easy A.
Dr. K. Knows his stuff and wants you to do well. Expect to think and to write. If you don't want to do so, take a different professor.
nice guy. Smart. Hard class.
Tough class. Lots to learn.
Be ready to work.
That last one was right. Lot's of work. Lots of learning.
Nice guy. Great class. Dr. K. rocks.
Professor Knox was a great teacher. He was very funny and a cool guy. Basically, you write your research paper in 3 different essays. You write essays 3 pages long and he gives you 100% for basically turning it in. It is all to get you to write for the research paper. You do read alot, but he rarely checks. Also, I opened the books twice FYI.
There was a bunch to read and it was usually a chore to get through. Other than that, Knox was a pretty good teacher. He's really funny and he's a pretty easy grader too. Not my favorite teacher but definitely not the worst.
Dr. Knox is a great professor but expects a lot out of his students. His classes are more fun than other English professors and students really develop as writers in his class. You just have to brace yourself for a lot of reading and writing.
Nice guy. Knows his stuff. Cares about English. Expects his students to care too. Be ready to work, ready to read, ready to write. Ask questions when you don't understand.
Knows his stuff. Cares about English. Expects his students to care too. Be ready to work, ready to read, ready to write. Ask questions when you don't understand.
Challenging and worth it. You'll learn how to write better.
A lot to learn. A lot to teach. Expect to work. Expect to become a better writer.
Informed and passionate. Be aware, he expects school to be your job. Don't expect sympathy if you miss class because you chose to work.
If you want to work and learn, take Dr. K. If you want an easy "A" or can't be bothered to work take someone else.
Treats you like an adult. Need an extension, ask. Need some accommodation, ask. But ask BEFORE work is due. Ask after, the answer will usually be "NO."
Dr. K. expects students to work and to take class seriously. If you have a problem, ask. If you don't ask, he assumes you don't have a problem. Gives extensions on most papers.
Great class.
Great class; good professor.
Asks a lot of students. Give a lot too.
Good class
Challenging class. good instructor.
I enjoyed class and learned a lot.
Dr. Knox is a brilliant professor. Really knows his stuff and expects a lot from the students. Always willing to offer help if you don't understand something. Lectures are mainly discussion based so always do the readings. If you take the class seriously he will greatly improve your writing skills.
Dr. Knox works hard to engage his students and to give you the tools you need to do well. He asks that you work and take his feedback seriously. If you plan to sit in the back of the class and not engage, this is not the class for you.
Dr. K works hard to help his students to achieve their goals. He expects you to work, and he works right with you.
Dr. K. loves his topic and the class. It shows. He works hard, speaks well, and tells lots of jokes. If you have a chance, take him.
Online classes are difficult. Dr. K. makes them as good as possible. When possible, he accommodates students and always makes sure that you know why you earn the grade you do.
Dr. K. is a great online teacher. He provides significant feedback and understands that technology sometimes fails. This class requires quite a bit of reading and writing, and Dr. K. expects you to do both carefully.
For an online class, Dr. Knox does a great job. He provides quite a bit of feedback and will give more if you ask. He gave me a couple of 24 hour extensions when I had emergencies. Just remember to get in touch before the assignment is due.
Dr. K. does a great job of teaching online. He's easy to reach and really nice in his emails and comments. Be sure to do the reading and take your writing seriously. Also, go to the Writing Center with every assignment you can. They will help yo uno do better.
Dr. K is a nice guy who expects you to work hard.
He was alright, but things were due at weird times, and I didn't find anything helpful. has a very straightforward writing style.
Best English teacher, really helps you become a better and more prepared writer. It might be online, but he will respond to your messages if you need help.
Nice teacher. Takes about a day to respond to emails. Usually offline during weekend, not great but workable. Gives great feedback.
Horrible! Do not take his online ENG321 summer class! 1 paper due every Sunday (regardless of holidays), 2-3 discussion posts (400-600 words) due every Tuesday and Thursday. Rarely answers comments on posts or in graded assignments. Absolutely will not except any late work regardless of situation. Gives vague feedback. Tough grader.
Nice guy. Online classes are challenging and require work, especially when you take them on an accelerated summer schedule. The late paper policy is clearly stated on the syllabus. I've found his feedback to be useful, and he responded to each of my questions so far. Take the class if you are willing to work.
Knox is a nice guy. Online classes require students to be on their game, so don't expect much hand-holding. But he will reach out in the first couple of weeks of class to make sure you are doing ok if you haven't been preforming well. Also, email him if you have questions. He responds quickly and clearly.
Dr. Knox challenges his students and cares about them too. When I missed class for a couple of weeks, he sent me an email--only professor to every do that. I got back on track and passed the class.
Most laid back online professor I've had. He grades very easy and I turned in all my discussion posts late and still received full credit for them.
Hands down the best English teacher I've had. He's a Professor with a Ph. D which is unheard of when you are in lower level classes, always getting stuck with student teachers. He gives you an A as long as you turn in your assignments on time. My experience: way better than my friends taking Eng 101 with someone who takes themselves too serious.
Honestly one of the greatest English professors I have had! Not only does he care about his students but sees the potential in them. I missed a deadline and he would immediately email me to see what was up and even gave me a second chance! I definitely recommend his course and him as a Professor!
This professor does not help build your writing skills, but it is an easy A. There is minimal work, and the "mandatory" reading isn't really mandatory to pass.
I loved Professor Knox! His class was relatively easy, but I appreciated his thorough feedback and suggestions. He always emailed me back within a day or two if I had any questions, and he provided excellent ideas for improvement on each essay. I highly recommend this online course versus the traditional in-class course for ENG 101.
I took Knox for online CH 201 so inherently there were lots of assignments and writing & not much teacher involvement. FOR THE MOST PART, his grading was very fair. A lot of the time though I felt that he was docking points off my critical responses just because he didn't want to hand out 100's, which was frustrating because I felt I deserved 100.
I recommend Professor Knox to anyone trying to take a CH course online. I am currently wait listed on his CH 203 class and I did take him for ENG 102 and CH 201. He is a great professor who is straight forward in his grading criteria but also understands that life happens. Definitely recommend him if you're looking for a simple(ish) CH course
Dr. K. is a great online professor. He asks great questions and provides thoughtful feedback. There is a lot of reading, so stay on top of that. Also, remember to answer all the questions in the assignments and to answer them fully -- evidence and analysis .
I took his online English class and he is a good professor and gives good and helpful feed back. His class is an easy A
