Paul is an excellent teacher. He is very patient and gives good examples that help remember concepts. If you are intimidated by math, Paul will definitely help you become successful at it.
Paul obviusly knew what he was teaching, but he failed to present it in such a manner that truly explained the inherent principles of the course matter. He was also habitually tardy.

Paul was very helpful and tried to instill in all of us that we can succeed in math. His class was always interesting and he presented the material in different ways as to try and reach all students. He was always willing to help us and has a great sense of humor.
Honestly the best math teacher I have ever had. he will go out of the way to help you and he made calculus clear. Take him if you want to learn the material!
Paul Kurose is the best intructor I have ever had in my whole life for math. He cleared all my concepts, and now I amable to do good in PreCalculas. He gives very good examples for all the material. If we want to proceed in Math, take him and I bet you will be succeeded.
He is a good teacher, but has a bad attitude toward certain students.
People like this class b/c they dont do anything all quarter. But then you get an accumulative final and are expected to take it with no knowledge gained. He is there to be the class clown and is very unproffessional. Dont take him if youre a good student looking for a good grade.
I thought he was going to be fun and interesting, then he decided that his time was better spent talking on his phone and attacking students for callng him on his BS. He likes feedback, as long as he can fully defend himself and make everyone feel wrong for it. HOWEVER, he does understand students situations and works with them if they have problem
He explains new concepts in every possilbe way to make sure that each student understands. He keeps the class interesting and fun with real life comparisons and stories. He has no problem calling out students who are slacking or trying to take advantage, so if that's you, don't bother taking his class. If you are interested in learning, he's A+.
Gave a few students extra time on a test, but graded everyone else down because they didn't have the extra hour or two to stay after class and finish the last few questions. Contradicted his own instructions, then graded us down because we couldn't show "proof". He asked for feedback, and SHOUTED at us for being "ungrateful." Worst class I've had.
He is not being fair to all students; he plays favotism. He gives a lot of homework which I think is a stupid way of teaching. Like the previous email, he gives tests that no one can finish, however, some students get extra time to finish the tests because they ask for permission to stay. The ones who follow his rule and turn in the tests in tim
has fun in class and does a good job of making sure class isn't boring. assigns a lot of homework, but also doesn't expect you to do all of it, just how much you 'need' to do. tests are not too easy, but not too hard. goes at a good pace through the material. overall a very good professor.
Doesn't explain things very well. Makes people who ask questions uncomfortable.
never experienced any other professors being more rude. he is trying to be funny in class to make up the gossip, bcs he goes on myprofessor.com a lot. well, paul, u sure have a problem
If you are a good, respectful and responsible student who wants to and has time to learn math the proper way he is a great teacher. If you want to slack off and just try to pass but hate math than expect to be knocked around. He's a great teacher with great experiance. Note to teacher: we need more time on those tests.
I was not excited to take Statistics, but Mr. Kurose made it interesting. If you put in effort in his class, he notices, and if you do not, he notices that as well. He assigns a lot of homework, the only downfall to his class. Half of the tests are take-home, and he will bump up your grade if you did poorly on early exams but well on the final
High expectations of students, but does not do his job. Terrible about getting work graded and returned in a timely manner. No meaningful review of exams after they are taken. Comes to class unprepared and is consistently late. Will scold a student like a child in front of the class for being late or missing class. Total hypocrite.
Do not take Paul’s class. He is good at explaining math and can have a great sense of humor but he assigns too many problems on tests and can be consistently rude to his students. His final had around 60 problems. If he was not so rude and did not assign so much work I would recommend him but this out weighs any of his teaching skills.
Online class. It was going really well at first. He assigns a lot of work, but you can walk into your exams knowing exactly what you need to know to be successful. I'm not sure what happened to him at the end of the quarter, but he essentially dropped off the face of the earth and stopped checking in on the class, which was very stressful.
Took his online statistics class. Had heard he was a great teacher but very disorganized. He did not grade our first two tests (gave us all 100%) and took a long time to grade our later test and midterm. He made no effort to instruct us via the internet. Unfortunate, because he seems like he knows his stuff. I recommend taking him in person.
he is ok
Fun teacher to take, however, he had a lot of homework (he doesn't expect you to do ALL of it, but at least some to prove that you do know whats going on), and he is like a high school teacher in some respects. He'll pick on you if you're an easy target, but he makes it light and fun, and always asks if hes insulted you (if he has, he'll prob stop)
This was a distance learning class. He gave very little feedback, including never returning our tests and even failed to disclose our test scores before the finals! So, it was very hard to know how you were doing in this class. Luckily for me, it turned out okay (I got an A).
Very funny teacher. He'll jive you if you can't defend yourself, and appears to have what you'd call "clowning ability". If you're one of those annoying kids who thinks you know more than he does, you better be able to prove it. If you're a **** he'll put you in your place, but he's usually nice. You'll learn math, but have to work pretty hard.
I would not recommend taking this teacher. The class is very disorganized and like everyone else says the tests are longer than they need to be. Take Bill Holt for BUS 210, way better class and teaching style is much easier to understand.
This is the worst class I have ever taken (and I've taken a lot of classes). Granted it's distance learning, but I feel like I threw out $400 to teach myself from the book. He doesn't return quiz grades, is late giving assignments, disappeared from message board after week 4 of quarter. Not impressed at all.
good teacher
This instructor is the worst instructor that I have ever had. I am now finished with my BS and would NOT recomend working with this instructor. He says one thing and does another. No feedback, no test scores, test about 8 pages long, he just gives you the test keys and you figure it out your self. Send him an email and you get no responce.
Pro's: One of the best math teachers at NSCC. He does an excellent job of explaining math concepts. Con's: Can be very impatient at times with students he feels aren't applying themselves. He tries to force students to be proactive about learning, which is good, but sometimes takes it too far. If you're in his class: do your homework & take notes.
He is one of great teacher I ever had. His class is really really hard but if you take time to study well you can get goog grade for sure but you need work really hard though to catch up the classes.
He is an awesome and hilarious man. He keeps the subject fun and light and makes the material fun to learn!
He is so funny. I love his stories and the examples like the tree example it is so funny. If I am having a bad day he makes me laugh.
He is hilarious and very cool...and great eye candy as well! :)
I've had some bad professors in my life, but Kurose take the cake.If you can't entirely teach yourself, don't take his class because his lectures are scattered and off topic. He seems to lack interpersonal and communication skills. He often puts his students down for asking questions. He doesn't silence his own cell phone and is late to every class
Started this class with an upbeat, positive attitude. About 3/4 thru, was getting sick when I had to go to class, and having periodic nightmares. He has a mean streak and on at least 5 occasions I saw him lash out at students. If u ask a question be prepared to ask in a way he can comprehend. He doesn't cater to multiple learning styles...at all.
stay away, stay away, and stay away... He is very mean, lazy, and does not give a damn about his students. He also often visits this website.
great teacher, tests are sometimes hard, but if you do all or most of the homework he assigns, and study 2-4 hours a day, you will be will prepared for the tests. hes most always available to answer questions after class, and during class will keep explaining something until it clicks and you understand it.
Professor Kursoe is firm, but fair. He tells you what is expected of you and if you do your part everything is fine. He is usually available to help students with problems or questions after class. If you don't do well either you didn't go to class or ask for help in a timely manner.
Paul teaches at least 3 classes per quarter, he is not designed for teaching. Unfortunately,I had no choice but to take his class to graduate. I e-mailed him 5 times and left him 2 phone messages, he never returned my calls or e-mails. When I asked him in person, he responded very meanly. NO one should be going through what I went through.
Paul is incomprehensible.I found myself having to teach myself most of the material from the textbook and had to go to hours of tutoring. He teaches high school and should probably stick to that age group.Unless you prefer to spend your class time joking around and not covering material to prepare you for difficult tests, do not take his class!!
he was not help me at all...
oh boy, it was the worst experience I have ever had. Don't believe these positive comments, probably K wrote them all. Tests were very hard and absolutely no feed back was given to the students. he thinks he is funny so he screws around.
Let me tell you all what you will see when you take this profs class. He is a clown but very annoying, he thinks he is funny but he is not. He is very mean and he puts you down in front of everyone. He is the far worst teacher you will ever have. Paul you got serious issues...
Paul is incomprehensible.I found myself having to teach most of the material from the textbook and had to go to hours of tutoring. He teaches high school and should probably stick to that age group.Unless you prefer to spend your class time joking around and not covering material to prepare you for difficult tests, do not take his class!!
He is the worst instructor of the the worst college in Seattle.
Thought he was going to be fun and interesting, then he decided that his time was better spent talking on his phone and attacking students for callng him on his BS. He likes feedback, as long as he can fully defend himself and make everyone feel wrong for it. HOWEVER, he does understand students situations and works with them if they have problem
never experienced any other professors being more rude. he is trying to be funny in class to make up the gossip, because he goes on my professor.com a lot. well, paul, u sure have a problem
I used to be terrified of math until I took math from Paul Kurose. He helps people understand what my high school teachers tried to explain, but didn't do a good job of. He's a great teacher.
He really likes to tell stories about himself throwing things at his students when he isn't actually throwing things at us.
I though he was a great teacher. I started in his basic math class and had a good enough experience that I took elementary algebra and elementary statistics from him as well. I found him much easier to understand than any of the textbooks, and as long as I understood what were my responsibilities as a student, he was understanding of what were his.
What is sad about Paul is that he really does care about students. He rails against standardized tests and yet requires exact wording to questions instead of definitions or asking followup questions. While he cares about students, he follows the strict father way of going about it and comes off as an uncaring jerk; hence the love or hate reviews.
I was a student who was previously terrified of math but decided to become proactive. Because I asked questions, took notes, and used the math lab, Kurose was great and I did very well on his tests. Motivated question askers will greatly benefit from Kurose. Take notes, ask questions, come to class every day and you will enjoy and pass his class.
He is a funny guy, but a total jerk when it comes to any criticism of his teaching. He doesn't use the book becuase the book is based off of how REAL social scientists use statistics, i.e. never perfect but with congence of evidence. If you have any real research experience, check it at the door because Paul's world has nothing to do with reality
I am currently taking this class online w/ Kurose, and 3/4 of the way through the quarter, I have gotten ZERO feedback/grades. I have no idea how I'm doing in the class, the teacher is completely unreachable, and each quiz and set of homework problems has been sent out two days to a week later than promised. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMENDED HIM!
Instructor? What instructor? This is an online class. Everything is done through email. No Blackboard or virtual classroom for discussion, just email. It's too bad this person doesn't respond to ANY emails. It's very frustrating. If you have trouble with math you'll be pulling your hair out trying to get answers to your problems. AVOID THIS CLASS!
I took this class through distance learning, and the guy doesn't teach me a thing. I studied on my own from the book then turned in homework and quizzes through emails. If you had questions, It would take a week or so for a response from him. I wasted 500 bucks for nothing. No lectures or classes whatsoever. What a terrible class! DON'T TAKE IT.
Kurose is a fun guy. In the beginning was a little hard as he has his style. He doesn?t give out a vocabulary of the definitions but all the time real examples. It helps a lot. I have the concept all clear only from the examples that he worked with. If you attend regularly, do all homework, be active show that you are in class- he helps you a lot.
he was helpful somewhat would everyday he would do the same problem over and over in a different way. He is a good teach. Yet lazy students slowed it up.I DID NOT LEARN ANYTHING IN THAT CLASS.
DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE STATs CLASS! He refuses to use angel or any other web based software. He eamils problems from the book and emails quizzes. You get absolutely no feed back or assistance. You are fully expected to teach yourself. I can't believe that NSCC pays this man to teach because he is not doing any such thing.
Don't take this class. I wish someone had told me this before I got into this mess!!! No Lecture, No Feedback, No grading, No replies to your emails, No Class website... worst Instructor after Cook (Econ&202)! Most loneliest online class...:(
(SPRING 2011) He doesn't give help or feedback on homework or tests & he's very slow in responding to emails - sometimes no response for several days. This is unacceptable for a teacher in an online class. Cannot communicate with other students since he doesn't use ANGEL. There is no way to succeed with this kind of teacher. Really disappointed!
Horrible teacher, should not be teaching online classes at all. Never gets back to you on any questions. Has two 30 min office hours and will not work with you at any other time. Does not give you the tools to succeed. He will not help you find a tutor when asked several times. I have never had such a bad experience in a class before.
I was very excited going into this class but Paul ruined the whole experience for me. He was so unclear when he did problems, he skipped so many steps in the various problems he did. Leaving me completely lost. He is very unprofessional, and unhelpful! He is not a good instructor at ALL! He is rude, and overly confident in himself.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! He has an interest in your "getting it" but he expects you to show up and do the work. He's not a babysitter and wants full class participation. He teaches a great Math class.
Paul is book smart but he is people smart too, He hits home on paying attention and writhing noters. If he sees that you are working, and paying close attention you will win big in this class., Suit up most days, don't miss class, do the homework, go to the Math Lab and you will succeed! He is really gifted.
For statistics, he teaches to the dumbest people in the class which makes it rather boring and hard to concentrate resulting in missing important points.
I used to have real anxiety about math, but Paul's teaching helped me get over my fears and ask questions. He really wants everyone to learn. But you do have to pay attention and take notes in class because he wants you to focus.
students like this class b/c they don't do anything all quarter. But then you get an accumulative final and are expected to take it with no knowledge gained. He is there to be the class clown and is very unproffessional. Dont take him if youre a good student looking for a good grade
I really enjoyed the class with paul he taught me a lot!
Kurose did a great job of making statistics interesting and relevant to my business major. I use the skills he taught me almost every day at work. Not an easy class, but very well taught.
I took Paul's online elementary statistics class a few quarters back. There was no online virtual class, no email lists so we could get together with other people in the class to study or do group homework sessions. I only met him twice and he seemed like a nice guy but he was not what I would call a teacher. Worst grade in my school career.
One of the best math teachers I have had. If you want a class that moves rapidly and where the teacher doesn't interact with anything except the blackboard, then choose a different teacher. But if you want to realy understand why the math works, and want a teacher who engages the class in active discussion, the I highly recommend Mr. K.
Paul is a nice guy. He's helpful if you go and sit in his office, but he is not a teacher. He did not send out notes, doesn't respond to email and gives no feedback at all.
I took the online statistics 146 class. Math is not my strong subject at all, but I did well. His homeworks are organized and quizzes are similar to homework type questions. His finals and midterms are also very similar to the quizzes. The key to success in his online class is to keep up with the assignments and quizzes and be motivated.
Paul is a funny guy and very thorough in his teaching. He's very much a high school teacher in that he's willing to bend a little too much to accommodate his students, but this was a nice break from professors who don't care about their students. Lots of homework, but very helpful.
I am not sure why this person is still teaching but on the other hand there I see why. NSCC is the worst college and they employ these profs that have no interest in teaching. I am surprised to see he got this many positives and I think it is kind of fishy. I got no help from Paul, he never responded my emails...
I am not one to bash a teacher... They have demanding jobs that do not pay well. That being said, Paul Kurose is the worst teacher I have ever had. He is not an accurate representation of the teaching quality at NSCC however. He is very patronizing and unhelpful. He claimed he assigned only 2 hours of homework per night, but it was at least 4
Okay teacher. great at lecturing, but compromised the class to hell when a few lack the knowledge of the subject to move on, dragging the whole class to a slow boring halt. Not very dependent in term of giving feedback. Sarcastic jokes are okay, but sometimes can be very rude.
Probably the worst professor ever taken at North. Although I did ok in his course, I wouldn't recommend this professor to others. The prof is extremely rigid on how he wants things done on exams, and he's not willing to clarify questions either. He's also by far the most degrading and confrontational professor on campus.
HE IS SOOOOOO NICE.
Paul Kurose is the best teacher I have ever had. He was so helpful to everyone in my class, and always willing to explain things if we didnt understand. Before this class I hated math and did not understand it, but now i feel excited about math. Paul actually cares about his students success. The best atmosphere, totally comfortable place to be!
Take only if you have to. He is lazy and 50 percent of your grade is the final which is the only thing he takes the time to grade. You seriously teach yourself and your very lucky to receive feedback/advice
He's a great teacher. He explains the concepts behind the problems assigned in the book, so that you can go back and solve the things you didn't know how to before. Do you hw before class, try each section and go to class daily. It'll be a good experience.
He's funny and uses creative examples to illustrate his point. He's a good math teacher, and focuses on math confidence/making you "get it". Review all of your tests/quizzes and know how to do each type of problem and you'll find hw/tests easy. Make sure to keep up with the lectures/hw.
This was the worst experience in 5 years of college for me. Kurose was condescending, rude, and confusing. He refuses to respond to emails unless he "feels" like it. He will send your quizzes back with negative comments, regardless of giving no instructions just to make himself feel superior. He is even proud of the number of students he fails.
He is interested in you learning the material. He will stop and ask anyone he believes who hasn't learned it. He encourages questions and helps that he knows his math very well. He does not reply to emails if he feels you should know the answer and sometimes gets in your face for not trying. He just wants everyone to get an A. Definitely recommend.
I took Paul for Stats online - very clear expectations, grading criteria and deadlines. This class does not have a canvas website - it is VERY self directed, which of course is not fault of Paul's so don't get behind and you'll do fine. Paul is helpful and thorough, clearly cares about his students and is very invested. I would take him again.
He will explain every question. Moves like a sloth. If you don't like fast paced teachers, then take him.
Paul does not give many tests. If you take his class, all the weekly quizzes will be taken home. He will give full score even if you make some mistakes as long as you answer every single question. He will also still give full credit if you only make some careless mistakes. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER! HE IS AWESOME!
He gives quizzes to be taken home. Class is easy
Online courses are meant to be paired with videoaudio lectures, notes or some sort of proof that the professor is present in some way. Rather than use the Canvas platform, Paul sent multiple emails each day, some extremely rude, and some with mistakes that he later had to email again to correct. No support (could have recommended Khan lectures).
Paul is one of the most genuine people you will come across. His class is entertaining as well as educational. Paul will take the time to explain each and every question asked and will reach out to anyone looking for help. Besides educational this guy is hilarous. Would love to take any class offered by this teacher.
Tried two quarters in a row to register for the class sending multiple emails with no response. Went to his class when I could to talk with him and he blew me off saying I needed to contact him sooner. How is emailing you 1.5 months in advance not soon enough?!?! Take this class from someone else because you can't take it with him.
Mr. Kurose genuinely cares about his students understanding the concepts of statistics and gaining the ability to apply them to real life. He actually made statistics interesting and fun, class is not boring. HW every night, few quizzes, midterm & final. Work hard, get a good grade. It's that easy.
Paul is there for you in class if you put in the work. For his pre-college math classes he explains concepts to you very well and is ALWAYS available after class to answer questions if you didn't understand something in class. Come to class. His tests reflect what he teaches in class. I worked hard and it paid off, I got an A+ in the class!
He is an amazing teacher. He relates to his students and makes learning fun! He teaches in a way that you can understand and learn quickly. He is very helpful and wants his students to succeed.
Kurose is an excellent math teacher and is also a human being with his own bs to deal with just like everyone else. He's a fine lecturer and mathematician. He'll get annoyed if you are clearly not tryingdoing the assignments, so do your homework - there will be a lot of it, so be ready for that. Also, his tests are tough given time constraints.
Not at all helpful. Feedback sporadic if given at all -- even when requested. Does not respond to communications in a timely manner, if at all. Be prepared to teach yourself for this class, and make sure you know all there is to know about it. There is no "instruction" here.
Horrible, not helpful, friendly, or even respectful. Don't take the class of this professor. Don't take the class of this professor.. Don't take the class of this professor. Important thing needs repetition.
Paul is a hilarious guy, clearly explains the material and breaks down methods and relates to methods learned in the past. Loves relating his lessons to his personal stories and past classes. He can be a hard ass, but he expects you to pay attention, take notes and ask questions if you're unsure. Would take him again!
Masterful teacher. If your goal is to truly understand algebra basics, you'd benefit from taking Mr. Kurose's class. Paul does a fantastic job of breaking math down into logical pieces in a meaningful way. He frequently gave relevant comparisons to problems, and approaches the work from many angles. I wish he could teach my Chem class too!
Paul is an amazing instructor, he always relate his lessons with his personal stories, and they are hilarious. His lectures are easy to understand if you pay attention and do your homework, ask lot of questions if you don't understand, he assigns LOT and LOT of homework, around 2-3 hours a day.
He really stresses the importance of asking questions and taking a good approach to the material. He has a system where someone can fail the midterm, yet show they have learned the material on the final and get a 4.0. He has a great view of teaching math and a hilarious expression, and if focussed, the period will fly by with a smile.
very rude and that's pretty much all about it. If you want fail i recommend you to take his class. Bad teacher overall.
Overall I liked the class. The website we used was pretty straightforward and the material was too. The only thing I would have to complain about was the 137 and 100 question REVIEW QUIZZES!!! These are just a few of the review quizzes we have for the final coming up. Mr. Kurose is a nice guy, and is very understanding. Would recommend.
Amazing professor. He teaches you how to get the answer visually and then teaches you the textbook way of getting the answer. So he basically made math so easy by explaining the logic behind the math. If you want to learn and you put the effort you will get a 4.0. TAKE HIS CLASS, you won't regret it. He is really funny too.
Took it online. Math is easy for me, so I worked independently all quarter. Professor is there if you have questions. But the tests/quizzes were heavily based on the homework. So just doing the homework should largely suffice for preparing you. Problems can be tried as many times as necessary. Don't really need the text. Just do the work!
Explains stuff in a way that is unlike other. Actually make sense of what otherwise you just accept to be true. Physical Homework is a plus, nobody likes online HW. He lets you use an older ver of book to save $ Fun in class, Quizzes based off homework. Takes weeks to get grades back however. Started hating calc, now I feel i can do it.
I was very hesitant at first because i'm horrible at math but Professor Kurose made the material understandable and applied it to situations that make sense!!! The homework may seem daunting but it's really all for solidification of the material and I found it very useful. Great teacher!
I took the online version of this class. He writes the tests, therfore the language of the midterm and final are very different from the rest of the work done online making it very hard to study for. If he does respond to emails they are rude and unhelpful. Does give back midterm unless you can make it to campus at a specific time. Not accomodating
Kurose rocks. He's... - Funny - Great at explaining the material - ALWAYS willing to answer questions - Makes it VERY clear what is on the tests - Will give you a 4.0 if you do well on the final, even if you bombed a quiz or two. Overall a great experience. You do need to do the HW / ask questions to pass though.
Professor Kurose is awesome. Always available to help. Textbook is great for learning on your own, but he reinforces it perfectly. Willing to sit down and go over anything, really want students to understand the material and not to sweat the small stuff. Appreciative of students that are engaged in material.
The other bad comments are accurate: Unhelpful, condescending, insulting, often replies slow or not at all, bad teacher. The class itself is full of errors, the tests are way too heavily weighted, the website costs money to use. NSC is a terrible school, but this is the worst teacher I've had in 3 years. The class would've been better w/no teacher.
If you can get past his rude, arrogant, condescending demeanor, you'll do just fine. The tests are modeled after the assignments, but you must study! Don't expect him to reply to you in a timely fashion or at all, for that matter. You're pretty much on your own which is why you must get up close and personal with your textbook.
Paul is awesome. He is laid back and getting an A is totally attainable. He wants students to do well. I once missed a quiz deadline and he still let me take it. Very refreshing. I took his class online and he can come across a little cold via email and announcements, but talking to him in office hours makes all the difference.
Only mess with the best! A true math Wizard who is right there with you to show you how to do it.
Paul is a chill teacher, but if you take his online stats class your midterm determines your fate to stay or drop out with the midterm grade weight being higher than the final.
Negative, discouraging, disengaged. Most messages to class were statistics on the percentage of students likely to fail. Very little teaching by professor. Offline homework assignments unimaginative and lackluster. Even final exam was proxied. Grade is heavily based on midterm and final. Online only.
I took his online class in the fall of 2017. He's probably a really good teacher but I did feel he could have interacted with each of us some more. It felt like a class on CourseRa or UDemy - where I get the exercises and deadlines and I'm largely on my own. I did okay, I guess - but if you need an interactive professor - maybe he's not the best.
This is the worst instructor I've ever had in my 5 years of school. Your overall grade is heavily weighted in your midterm and final grade. He is the most discouraging person/instructor you will ever come across. Sometimes daily emails about how 1/2 the class hasn't started the HW, etc. He thinks your life revolves around stats. Wouldn't recommend.
Worse math skill than math major student. That is it.
30% of your grade is based on the midterm, 45% on the final exam (the final is comprehensive of the ENTIRE qtr). He writes his exams completely different from all the other material in the class, and the final only had 18 questions (and were written out). I felt like I really knew the material, and I'm a 3.8 student, but still didn't do well.
Very discouraging class for those not strong in math. Also, since he writes his own tests they are very different from the homework you have to study off of. Almost your entire grade is based off the midterm and final. I don't feel like the final review quizzes reflected what he actually asked on the final.
He uses a textbook-centered course you have to purchase that he doesn't make himself, and then he writes the tests, which are incredibly different from what the homework and online quizzes are like. He's rude, and unforgiving about mistakes. Be prepared to ace the midterm and the final.
teaches math the right way, really fun to be around, really funny, makes learn math fun,
I really liked Mr. Kurose, he is really funny and explains things in a way that makes sense, he even came in on a sunday to help some of us that were worried about the finale on monday.
He is really an amazing teacher for those students that need a bit of a push onto the next subject. When introducing a chapter he is very thoughtful of the students and makes sure that everyone understands it in the way they may learn. He adjusts and explains teaching styles so that kids understand him. Overall he is an amazing teacher!
I would never take this class with this professor ever again even if you held a gun against my head and told me I had to in order to live. When the past reviewers say that the exams dont match anything that is learned through homework, they were spot on. I got 90-95 on most of my quizzes and tests and still got a 65 on my midterm. Yes, its bad.

Really liked this class! All hw assignments and midterm/final reviews had infinite attempts. Even the weekly quizzes have two attempts if you are proactive and don't try to do them last minute. About people saying his hand written tests are nothing like the hw, its because its not an exact copy. If you understand the concept the test is easy too.
Precalc was difficult material but Paul put in tons of effort to help us understand. Daily homework but that's necessarily for math. Nice guy and very engaging.
Intro to Statistics. Fair grader. answers questions and helps in a reasonable amount of time. Online course using Pearson interface for 7th edition of Larsen text book. Pearson lectures did not match 7th ed; I bought 5th edition to match the lecture for $10. Not an easy class at all but with effort and using tutors I earned an A.
He is honestly the best. He is very strict and leaves a lot of homework, but he is worth it. He makes math simple and understanding. He pushes you like no other professor. He is the only professor who honestly cares about his students. I came out of his precalculus class very well prepared. He is the best professor.
His online stats course was like traversing a forest in the dark. At first you think you understand, until his midterm or final. He does them himself and they aren't like the my math lab quizzes at all. Maybe he is a good instructor in person, but not online.
Spoke with Paul Kurose over the text about potentially setting up an appointment for tutoring. He proceeded to text me you are bs and you dont respect your elders, because I hadnt texted him back in a few hours. When I confronted him about the situation he ignorantly discerned his adjunction, and attempted to belittle me. Seems impatient/rude
Stats with Kurose in the Fall of 2020. Was the first college class I ever did poorly. He relies on MyMathLab to teach all the material, then writes his own exams, which look so different from what you were just "taught". I could have You-tubed for free. Not to mention his chastising e-mails about how half of the class hasn't started their HW yet.
It's not the professor, it's just this class. Do not take Stats146. It uses Pearson so the professor is basically MIA. You're going to study by yourself. If my warning isn't enough and you're still taking this class. Get Chegg. His exams are hard, but it's all in his review quizzes. ACE those, you get A. The review quiz has around 150 questions.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. He dont teach. He assigns MyLab lectures and homework and expects you to know everything. the material aint that bad but he is the worst I ever had. He doesnt show the grading rubric, point breakdown or correct answers on any test so you dont know where you made a mistake or how to fix it. He is impatient and assumes ur lazy.
Really nice guy and he made small talk with everyone. His lectures are just unorganized and hard to understand because he does not get to the point. However, he genuinely cares and wants you to learn! Easy grader and understanding! Recommend taking him if you learn well through listening and lecture.
I can't swear on here, but this guy is the absolute worst. Take a course from a less patronizing teacher.
