Arrogant, Incompetent and very egocentric. Not a good teacher at all. He can't even properly explain Descartes and what "Being" means. Had another teacher explain it to me and I totally get it now. DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
Really good techer. He is really funny and the subject is interesting. You do have to write long involved papers, but he will do anything to help you. Go to class because they really help to understand the subject. Small quizes every week too.
Great teacher! Makes the subject interesting. You have to write some papers, but if you ask for help you will get it.
Very funny and insightful teacher... has a bit of an arrogant sense about him but still is clear on what he expects from you. READ the book and talk in class and you will pass.
He was not a bad teacher when it came to grading. He constantly played devil's advocate during discussions. I got an easy A in the class so that's really all I care about.
He's an arrogant and self absorbed teacher. Don't waste your time with him...
He is sa cool teacher that tries to explain the subject, but then again it is philosoply. Anyway the funny thing about him is the way he says "things" he says "thangs"
Great teacher. I have dropped two other different kinds of philosophy classes because the teachers were pricks and expected way too much with too little material or help offered. He was different. He is a young teacher with a zest for teaching still. He does require you to read the txt, write well, and participate. Got an A easy doing this.
the class is philosphy so it will be hard to understand, but he does try to explain the material completely. just show up to class and write your 3 papers and read the assignments and your got a solid B and maybe an A. be ready to think out of the box too.
Awesome subject and teaches you to be a critical thinker. Show up everyday and you will pass easy. Papers are tough but he gives you a chance to rewrite them for half the pts back.
Dr. Bryant is a superb professor with a vast knowledge in the subject he teaches (as well as many other topics). He made the course very enjoyable and interesting. Dr. Bryant also valued the opinions of the students in the class and encouraged us to lend our opinions to discussion. He is competent, helpful and very intelligent. Highly recommended.
Levi Bryant is the most intelligent person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I truly enjoyed both of the classes I took with him. He was always available for consultation and always willing to help. He seems to have read everything ever published and has a deep understanding of the world of ancient as well as modern philosophy.
This class requires attendence or you'll be totally lost. LOTS of notes! LOTS of essays and quizes. He's an ok professor and is pretty funny. There were 5 or six in class essays, two 1200-1400 word take-home essays and a quiz over every reading assignment. This class does take some effort but it's not that difficult if you just take notes.
kinda passive, but interesting
One of the top 5 teachers in the school. He probably won't be at CCCC forever, so take his class regardless of your major. To miss this chance would be a serious waste. Very eye opening class.
Best class i have ever taken!!! Never opened the book, made an A. Take notes and be interested in the material. Learned more from that one class than i did in last 10 years of school. Easy A. Talk to him after class, very interesting, you will learn much more. Ask questions, leave paradigm of thought. Best decision you can make is to take his class
AMAZING!! I thought this was going to be a hard class but he made it totaly easy, the class is an EASY A if you do your work. He is SUPER smart but also SUPER funny, its a hard subject but he makes it fun and totaly easy
He's a badass. One of the best teachers in the school; He gets everyone involved in the discussions, which are always interesting, rather droning on like some teachers. Knows a bit of everything.. from politics to particle/astro physics etc. Mostly discussion/notes; couple of in-class writing exams/quizes.. you can use your book; +15% = attendance
Took him during summer I. Basically took quizzes every week and had 2 paper exam assignments. Quizzes were hard because he's super picky with what he wants for an answer. There were students in my classes from Baylor and NYU, etc..and even they receieved some 3's or 4's on quizzes that were out of 10 points..Interesting class but very picky prof.
Do not pass up the chance to take his course! This man knows a bit of everything, which he uses to help clarify his deep understanding of philosophical concepts. He is extremely intelligent, interesting, engaging and funny. Although very particular in quiz questions, he is also fair! Attend class, read the text he assigns and you'll do fine.
This guy is a solid jerk. Loves hearing himself speak. Always has 3 or 4 philo nerd teacher pets who he talks about in class. You could agree with this guy and then he would tell you why he thinks you are wrong. You will get a good grade if you do the work, but don't count on enjoying this class. It is depressing and annoying at the least.
Levi was the best professor I've ever had! I've learned *so* much from him, even though I'm not that much interested in Philosophy. He's funny, eager to engage students, and WAY sexy... in fact, I'd take the class over again just to look at him and hear his nerdy jokes! I highly recommend him as he's a superb professor and very easy on the ole ey
Levi is a WONDERFUL professor. He's very intelligent, very entertaining, and very helpful! He goes over all material MANY times to ensure you understand it(material can be difficult.) Tests are short, but can be somewhat difficult (read questions very carefully.) He is friendly and enjoys appropriately times conversation. I highly recommend him!
horrible. he got his dr. in this field and thinks that everyone who takes his class will do the same. taught extremely hard stuff and didnt do a good job explaining. hard quizes that require specifics, essay papers arent terrible. plays favorites. i felt he expected too much for it being an intro class.
Fantastic professor. Explains complex literature and theories in great clarity. My one disappointment is that I'll likely never have another class with him again, since I transferred to UNT. Reading and attendance is a must for the class, but it's college, so that should be expected. He's wonderful, take him if you get the chance!
Easy class, lots of extra credit opportunities. Only thing is he is pretty biased as far as his political views, which he interjects into class. So he's a little annoying but if you just don't disagree with him you're okay.
Amazing teacher, easy class. Take this class and any other classes with this guy! He likes to debate but he's also good at keeping the class moving. Interesting reading, with quizzes. 2 Essay exams with one averaged rewrite chance. Great teacher and a nice guy.
I dont know what this guy on the bottom is talking about? Professor Bryant is a great professor. He is especially clear when it comes to lectures. Im a south korean and I dont miss a thing of what he says. I think the reading portion is hard but he tries to help you out.
Awesome professor! If you do the reading that he assigns you are good to go! Very clear about what he wants and will help you in writing the different essays he assigns over the semester!
This is a very good professor. I have taken this semester with him at Preston Rigde College and I really think he is awesome.
Incredibly smart professor. Explains the material clearly and many times. No tests really just a few essays and quizzes. Quizzes are easy if you study your notes (which he organizes very well). Exams are not as easy but he grades easy to make up for it. Kind of seems arrogant and annoyed when you ask questions that he thinks are stupid but its cool
Professor Bryant is a very intelligent person. He knows his stuff, is funny, but sometimes he may seem a bit arrogant. Sometimes it is difficult to read the books that he assigns, but if you pay attention and take notes, there should be no problem. I would take him again. There are no tests just essays. Do extra credit, it helps. Do work=an A.
OK teacher, if ur goin to take philosophy make sure u take it wit him. He's really passionate about the subject and thoroughly explains it. No tests, just open book quizzes. Exams are take home essays, make sure u read the books n you'll be fine.
Definitely benefit from his knowledge. He is incredibly smart but he knows it. Texts are SUPER cheap. Like $15 total for the class. He uses aggressive language at times and he seems to challenge the idea of religion at times. Stick with it and you'll understand why towards the end of your semester.
Professor Bryant is very helpful!! He makes his class interesting through class discussions and he's really entusiastic about what he's teaching. He'll write out notes for u on the board so u know whats important. read the book(s) to keep up with material and be prepared for short answer quizzes! Tests are essay questions.
No exams, just essays. He is funny, nice and helpful.Good Professor!
3 papers worth 25% a piece. Several pop-quizzes worth 25%. No extra credit. Easy to take notes because he writes all the important information on the board. Good sense of humor. Do good on the quizzes and essays and you'll get an easy A. Great guy.
This class is easier than Paris Hilton!!!!!
He is very brilliant...& an ****, &openly acknowledges that he is both. more of a great philosopher than a good professor. Hella intelligent, & knows it?not afraid to brag about his accomplishments. bad communication skills. He?s passionate & as long as you don?t mind feeling inferior, you will only see his excellent theories as completely wicked
He intimidates the weak & feeds his fave students his attention. Don?t neglect the readings?he likes you more when you communicate with him in class, & it will help your grades if you reply to his lecture questions as well b/c he will grade your quizzes/papers easier; &you can only reply to his questions if you read & understand what your reading
Hes funny & smart?dont take this class to flirt with the professor. hes not really anyones type; more of his own breed. Dont ask ditsy ?'s & dont answer ?'s unless youre sure your right,b/c his vibes are contagious & he'll have the whole class laughing at you &send you home with your tail between your legs and your head hanging low in humiliation
LOVE HIM! Smart & Hilarious. Lotsa Pop quizzes and he is picky about answers-just ramble and you'll hit a couple of key words and do fine Take home essay tests just read material and make sure you answer questions w clarity, he also lets you email a rough draft and will critique. Very helpful and adorable personality!
Dr. Bryant is well versed on the subject of philosophy and his passion for the subject is evident! I really enjoyed the class even though it was a required coarse for my academic plans. The books are inexpensive and he provides written notes on the board, so attend class and you'll do well. Had to write 6 papers total-which were't too difficult! :)
Awesome professor. Has a recognizable love for the subject. Keeps things interesting and relatable.
Professor Bryant is a very good professor that is incredibly passionate about the subject material. He's definitely an interesting character. His exams are all take home essays, but don't take that to mean they're lay down grades. He grades them very tough, but fairly. This class will make you think and it is very interesting. Would recommend him.
I hate this guy. I really did, he grades super hard, and the class just wasn't what I expected to be. Don't get me wrong though, as long as you do all the assignments do well on the quizzes and tests you'll pass. I just hate how he teaches, and how he apply the concept to his tests and stuff. Plus he can be mean, and I just didn't like him.
The hardest class I had ever taken! Philosophy is already a confusing subject but to add a unhelpful professor to the confusion doesn't help! Lectures were all over the place and I got nothing out of it. Multiple in class but out of the book quizzes as well as 4 papers. Very hard grader!
This class requires perfect attendance and hard work or else you will fail.
The man's freaking brilliant. He's funny, captivating, and he really knows his stuff. There are no more out of class essays so your grade comes from tests and quizzes. The readings he assigns are not too long, just make sure you are patient and well acquainted with them. It can be hard, but its a good challenge and makes you think.
Really challenges your personal philosophy
He's one of the best professors ive ever had. simply put if you dont come to class you will fail cause all the material is in class. he opens your mind and makes you think outside the box but i would take his class every semester if i could
Don't let appearances fool you, the blue undercut, tattoos, piercings, and converse may lead you to believe one thing, but this man is seriously intelligent and a serious teacher. Dr. Bryant is wonderful and gives applicable lectures that are both informative and amusing. He has high expectations for participation and critical thinking.
I really enjoyed this class. He is passionate about the subject and brilliant. He's even coined terms in Philosophy. Most important thing: Attend class. He doesn't put powerpoint slides online. Your notes, and notes only, are what will allow you to do well on tests. There is no book. Don't ask stupid questions, or he'll roast you.
If you show up to class, you will do well! Showing up is crucial. There is no textbook and everything is laid out in the lecture. The best part is he writes everything you need on the board.
I had the pleasure of taking Doctor Bryant's class fall of 2015 and it was my favorite. First test was hard but once you understand the test style it's not hard to improve. Bryant was also always there for me when I needed to ask questions wether it be email or his office. Very passionate and interesting man. Enjoyed every bit of the class.
Professor Bryant is a good lecturer who often will joke around with the students and explain things to where it's easy to understand. If you don't attend class regularly and take notes you will fail. There are 4 tests that are 25% of your grade each and you have to know the material well. I would take his class again.
Professor Bryant is an amazing, intelligent individual who is truly knowledgeable and passionate about his field. He likes to challenge his students and can easily sniff out bs. Don't overthink things- just really listen, pay attention, and read thoroughly through the material. This was a great class that I got a lot out of, including an A. :)
He's a very good professor but you have to take notes and make sure you don't miss a class.
The class was really interesting and challenged me to think. Attendance is MANDATORY, he doesn't take role but you have zero chance of passing if you miss class. I never read any of the readings that he assigned and did well because he goes over it all so well in class. He outlines exactly what will be on the exam in class so just don't miss!
Prof. Levi Bryant is set to become one of the most important philosophers of our time, his thought is cutting edge and his knowledge about diverse topics is sometimes breathtaking. Be ready to participate a lot and you will get almost always excellent feedback from him.
I absolutely love this Professor, he may be strict but it's worth taking his course. He makes Philosophy so interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to pass you should attend. All of the material on the tests are in the notes, make sure to show up on time because he announces the essay topics of the exams in the beginning of class.
Dr. Bryant was really awesome! Every test is multiple choice and has two essay questions. He dropped the lowest quiz grade and test grade. There is always 1-2 extra credit questions! Ask him questions and he will be eager to help understand. No textbook, and attendance is mandatory but if you miss one day you will miss a lot of important info.
Love him! He is hilarious and makes you feel comfortable in class. Class is not mandatory but if you skip you will not do well on the tests. His tests are 2 Essay questions and 20 multiple choice, he is a tough grader on the essays but during lecture he will hint very hard on what the prompt is. He drops lowest test and quiz at end of semester.
Professor Bryant was great! Literally just show up, pay attention and write exactly what he writes on the board, and you will get a good grade. A few quizzes and 4 tests, he drops the lowest two quizzes and lowest test.
one of the best profs ive had!! note heavy but if you pay attention and take good notes you will get an A! drops lowest quiz and test! he is extremely enthusiastic about the subject and really makes you think. i would love to take him again!
If you come to class every time and take notes on both what he writes and what he says, this is the easiest class you'll ever take. If you're a slacker though I would not recommend him, it's in no way a blow off class. Plus there is zero group work, which I loathe, so your grade is dependent on solely your own effort. Would definitely take again.
Professor Bryant's class is amazing, definitely changed my outlook Attendance is mandatory, but you need to attend to have good notes. He tells you the answers to the essay questions at the beginning of classes, so don't be late! Professor Bryant had the most interesting lectures, and I would recommend him! The content in this class is phenomenal!!
Life changing class. Life changing professor. He gives examples that relate to life and help you understand them better. He doesn't use a book, just some readings he posts online and all the information is the notes we take in class. Overall wonderful professor!
I think that if you just study hard and want to succeed you will. He makes it EZ, he has a policy for tests that can bring you back to passing even if you had an F. He is strict but, was a reallly amazing prof, one I might take again.
I hated the actually class, but loved him! He made the class more bearable. Test are easy as long as you study. He assigns readings, but to be honest I didn't read one thing. You really don't need the readings to pass, maybe to be more helpful with the test.
This professor is strictly lectures with no presentations and all the information is important for his tests. He likes class participation in conversations and isn't against giving a pop quiz if no one answers his questions. All the reading material is online and isn't too long, but if you don't read the material, its okay because he goes over it.
He his good but strict on papers. As long as you do what he ask you should be fine, be prepared for his lectures always as he gives out pop quizzes every two weeks.
If youre into philosophy this is the class for you as he is very knowledgable. Beware he likes to give pop quizzes but all the reading/textbook is online and free
Levi is way too good for Collin so if you have the opportunity to take him than you absolutely should! Keeps the class incredibly entertaining while you still gain so much!! Hes published four books and even coined a term! Frighteningly intelligent man and absolutely worth taking!
All you have to do to get an A in this class is take good notes and literally rewrite what he writes on the board on your exams. His exams were two essays and 25 multiple choice questions, but the class before the exam, he literally writes exactly what he wants in the essays, word-for-word on the board, so just take good notes and study them well.
He writes down everything you need to know on the board, so just memorize it. There is never too much information to know. Very lenient grader and surprisingly interesting lectures. Actually cares about students grades so it's an easy A+. Lots of extra credit too
This professor has way too much lecture heavy material in his class, he mentioned that he wont reschedule a missed assignment even if you have brain surgery or if your grandma dies, his reasoning was that he drops the lowest grade, what he wants on the test is directly his opinion, a researched opinion but still his opinion, I wouldnt recommend.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. His classes will change your life! Don't miss out on an opportunity to take him because honestly he's too good for Collin!
This was my 2nd time taking this professor and I absolutely would take him again. He gives insightful lectures and promotes an environment that allows you to think for yourself. 4 tests and 5-6 quizzes, all easy if you attend lecture & look over your notes. There's extra credit on everything & he drops the lowest test and quiz, very easy class!
This a history of philosophy class as understood by professor Bryant. Do not expect to think or analyze, just show up to class, memorize the notes and regurgitate on the tests and you'll get an A.
Professor Bryant can come off intimidating at first but he is just really passionate about this subject. Lectures are not technically mandatory but if you skip class at all you will miss A TON. You need to go to class. He also gives the test essay questions out early in class to help you prepare. He is very strict with what we turn in.
His class was originally not bad other than the boring lectures and the homework was expected and nothing crazy. The tests are over the lectures. However, when our class moved online, the workload DOUBLED. He expects way too much from students especially for such a hard class. DO NOT take his online class. Discussions can take 3 hours to do.
DON'T TAKE ONLINE. He does written lectures and they can be up to 12+ pages long and there are 2-4 lectures every unit. Every exam there are multiple choice questions and you write 2 essays that are at least 1-3 pages long each and he's a tough grader. There is also discussion posts and he expects you to write as if you were a philosopher.
I would NOT recommend taking his online class. 2-4 Lectures per unit (consisting of 6-14 pages) LOTS & LOTS of reading!! Extremely time-consuming class (I've taken 6 online classes & this one was extremely tough). Exams consist of 2 written essays (1-3 page requirement) along with 20 multiple choice questions!! Tough grader as well!
Don't take his class if you are hoping to coast through, he gives PLENTY of very long readings and lectures as well as exams involving 2 separate essays each at least 2 pages long, along with 20 more questions and is very picky about how you write or ask questions. He is one of the toughest prof. I've been unfortunate enough to cross paths with.
I wish I wouldve read the ratings before taking this class. Grades extremely too hard as if we have to present in front of the president of the United States. Discussions arent too bad but, still requires too much. If you want a challenge take it. If you just want a credit RUN from this class. Not worth it at all.
Professor Bryant was one of my hardest classes for my Spring semester. He has very high standards on everything. He wants "outside-the-box" answers, but he is very opinionative and wants specific answers. His exams consist of 2 essays as well as an hour-long test. I found this class to be very difficult and forced me to drop the class.
Levi is a nice enough man but he expects way too much from his students (especially considering this is an introduction class). The quizzes and tests are very easy if you've read his weekly 10 page lectures, but he thinks very highly of himself so odds are you won't do well on the essays and discussions. Your best is not good enough for him.
His essay expectations in his grading criteria is completely unreasonable for an intro to philosophy course. An example, I printed out the lectures he stated to use in our prompts, I highligted the parts that were important to the topic of the essay putting them in my own words. He still gave me an 5 and 8 out of 15 points for comprehension.
Very easy class as long as you attend class and read the essay outlines. the tests and quizzes are very easy as long as you pay attention and take notes. the essays are time consuming but very easy for he gives VERY detailed instructions on them and outlines the material on them! super fun class and profesor would 100% take again!
Hypocritical, and very full of himself. He required that essays be written double spaced and with perfect spelling and grammar (lest you lose points) but had grammatical and spelling errors in his written lectures and single spaced them. I didn't think this was the caliber of professor worth my money. We can all do better. Find someone else.
ISTG this dude. First of all, for an intro class, he goes into way too much debt. An extremely strict grader wanted literal perfection or he fails you. Extremely egotistical and very arrogant, gives relatively vague instructions but expects students to completely understand him. would NOT take this class ever again.
Levi Bryant is the best professor I had in the humanities at Collin College. He got me into philosophy and helped me outside of class if you care about the subject take him, if you don't, do no take him. He is kind of a character and tells pretty crazy stories that I still remember years later. He gives a lot of detailed work, but yo'll learn a lot
Read the syllabus!! Take good lecture notes and put effort into essays. This is an extremely easy class if you attend and have a desire to learn. If you aren't willing to do these two things you'll struggle.
Lousy teacher, grades unfairly, too many assignments, does not explain
TAKE NOTES IF YOU WANT TO PASS! Good professor and also knows what he is talking about! He is very direct about what he requires from the students. Actually teaches and can understand what he is saying in class. Quiz every Friday, 4 EXAMS throughout the semester. (MULTIPLE CHOICE +ESSAYS)
The best professor I've had at CC. Difficulty is high, but I grew as a person. I switched majors to philosophy after this class! Taking notes is required, don't miss a single class unless you have a buddy to share notes with you.
