Long lectures and he sometimes goes off topic. Super cool dude though and is super funny! He makes learning the subject enjoyable and makes you think a lot about things like religion and moral beliefs. (That's philosophy though!) Awesome guy, awesome class. I would totally take it again for fun!
Dr. Bryant is a great lecturer -- I never feel bored in his classes. Lecture notes are incredibly important, but if you can just memorize those you'll get over a 100 on the exams. Very thought-provoking and knowledgable. Handles controversial topics (religion and morals) very well. I would take his class again, great professor!
Dr. Bryant is one of the best professors I've ever had. He keeps class interesting and makes things easily understandable. The key to success in his is to show up and take good notes. It helps to review them before class as well. Really funny, a lIttle strict, and doesn't give extra credit EVER.
Professor Levi Bryant is a real gem. Simple and straight forward. If you want an A just attend all classes, take notes, read all material, listen to him in class. Very easy class.
Dr. Bryant is an amazing teacher! Attendance is important because tests and quizzes depend heavily on the lectures and notes you will take in the class. Very straightforward and is clear about what he expects for answers on quizzes and tests. Make sure you keep up with the readings assigned. Lectures were always fun and interesting!
Professor Bryant has amazing lectures that will make you really want to listen. He is very opinionated but it makes him a good philosopher. Copy his notes exactly and his class will be a breeze, although you have to show up to every single class because he does not post anything online except the outside readings which aren't nearly as important.
First of all, call him Dr. Bryant. Lecture is great because he writes his notes on the board with us, so the pace of his lectures are pretty good so its not too slow nor not too fast. Quizzes are easy, tests are easy.
Amazing professor. Very important thing to note about Prof. Bryant. You HAVE to go to go to class. During his summer course, each class is 2 hours you'd be surprised by how much he can fit into one lecture. I missed one day and my exam that week absolutely suffered. He does not have a makeup policy. He drops the lowest quiz and test instead.
Professor Bryant excellently engages his audience, making sure to grab the attention of everyone in the room and encourages class participation and discussion. His examples are often brought down to earth and provoke thoughts. The only downside I can think of is that you must beware missing class due to the unpredictability of pop quizzes.
Professor Bryant's class is the type that changes your life. His lectures are just amazing and absolutely worth taking. He teaches in a way that makes you understand (the material, and the world) whether than just memorize everything. People should take his class while they have the chance! I'm taking a second one next semester!
Absolutely amazing professor! Very knowledgeable on the subject and knows what he's talking about. He tells you exactly what he's looking for in exams so as long as you attend and take notes and pay attention, you're good to go (which isn't a problem because he keeps you very intrigued the whole time.
he tells you exactly what he needs in essays, drops the lowest quiz and exam, can seem a little intimidating at first but is super funny and comfortable to be around. this class is definitely hard work but you go home learning something new.
Very knowledgable professor. He puts the readings online so there's no textbook necessary. He is fantastic at explaining philosophy and provides good examples. Tests and essay questions are taken straight from lectures, so just attend class and look over notes to do well. Drops lowest quiz and test grade. I'm taking him again next semester.
Test are made up of multiple choice and two papers and his opinion. he gives you the essay questions ahead of time but they are still hard. only on lecture and readings which are hard to read.
Levi is passionate and enthusiastic about the subject he teaches. Attendance is not graded but showing up for class is vital for success in this class. You MUST take notes during the lecture or you will not do well in this class. 4 tests and 6 quizzes (he drops the lowest of both)
Probably one of the smartest people Ive ever met. Incredibly knowledgeable and such a great class! Ive met so many wonderful professors but Levi takes the cake for sure! Took both of his classes and it was one of the best decisions made!
Great professor! i loved his intro to philosophy class, his lectures are really interesting and he explains everything well. it is important to go to class, as everything on the test is from the lectures. He also gives pop-quizes, but it's easy to tell when they're going to be!
Excellent professor! Passionate about what he teaches and his students. Knows what he's talking about! Best professor in Collin by far!
Dr. Bryant is an awesome prof, however if you are looking for an easy elective or class this is not for you. His class is tough and can even monotonous. But he gives good example during his lectures and he enjoys what he does.
I really enjoyed prof Bryant! No text books but you HAVE to attend class or get notes every week if you want to pass. Hes some what intimidating and throws out hard ideas and questions but I learned so much from him. He is a proud person so he comes off egotistical but he is actually very kind and funny once you look past that. Awesome professor!!
This class is very interesting the only thing is this professor is very lecture heavy. You do not need a textbook but he makes you read articles outside of class. Then later on have pop quizzes over the article. His tests consist of writing 2 essays 3 pages long each plus multiple choice questions in 50 minutes. I would never take this class again
Levi is an amazing professor. The class was given 4 tests and around 5 or 6 quizzes. He drops the lowest grade for each. On the tests are 2, 1 page essays and 15 multiple choice with 2 bonuses. He gives short readings to read outside of class. He was lecture heavy but the entire test was outlined in the lectures. Great class! Easy A if you show up.
I took this class back in 2014 and I refer to this class often. The ideas are presented in such a way that it sticks with you. As I remember attendance is necessary or the material will be confusing. This class will stimulate your mind and make you want to think outside the box.
My favorite professor I had while at collin. Not only is the material extremely interesting, Professor Bryant is phenomenal. The ideas taught are thought provoking and I still think about them today. Professor Bryant teaches the material extremely well. The lectures are always interesting and Bryant has a good personality to keep the lecture going.
Professor Bryant has good lectures and is always seeking participation from the class. However, he goes over the time with his lectures every single class which is annoying because he talks from the time your class starts on the dot to at least 5 min over. He does not curt ANY slack when grading. Miss a quiz or test? Too bad. Very hard class.
Very passionate guy about Phil. If Phil HIGHLY interest you, take prof. Bryant. If you're looking for an easy credit for your major (like me) DO NOT TAKE PROF BRYANT!! VERY hard grader, you either pass or you fail the assignments. Gives good lectures if you are interested in the material. If you don't care for Phil, STAY AWAY.
He is a fairly nice guy. The classes are very lecture heavy so if you miss class you probably won't pass. It's a tough class but if you ask questions you'll probably be okay. He's a little intimidating but don't let that stop you from taking the class...
Still one of the best professors I've ever taken. Amazing, inspirational, life-changing class. Having the opportunity to take this class and not taking it would probably be the biggest mistake of your life. Absolutely adore him and wouldn't be who I am today if not for his classes. If you're a slacker, might be difficult. Best class ever!
A LOT OF READING! Pretty straightforward class. He tells you what and how he wants his essays/tests done. Extra credit opportunities on discussions and tests. Tough grader on essay portions though.
Amazing lectures, clear expectations for students. One of the best professors I've ever had.
Professor Bryant is the best professor I have ever had, and it isn't close! If you want to be intrigued, google him! He is very knowledgeable. I took his class during covid, so attendance was not necessary, but I still went and really enjoyed his class! He was always very fair. The essays on exams are worth a ton, so don't blow those off.
For online class, he uploads his lecture files and these are mostly all you need. His lectures are not that hard. Dont think hes just threatening you when he says he will take huge points off from your essays. He really does that when you dont follow his instructions. But as long as you follow them and read his lectures, youll be fine.
lots of longgg lectures (both in class and written). very test heavy, each exam was 2 lengthy essays with multiple choice questions. very lecture heavy, so a lot of reading. weekly discussions and quizzes. hes a cool guy but overall time consuming and sometimes frustrating. as long as you read lectures & follow essay prompts its an easy A
I'll admit his class was not easy He made me appreciate philosophy because it's supposed to challenge ur thinking to make you think outside the box or you're doing it wrong His lectures were amazing u have 4 exams with 1500 words essay(he gives you the whole week) So much extra credit got over a hundred percent drops lowest quiz discussion & EXAM!
This professor having a score of above 4% baffles me. He is extremely difficult to understand and he does not give clear reasons for his grading. He is an extremely hard grader so if you do not do everything to his liking, then you will not pass.
Professor Bryant is hands-down one of the best professors I have ever had. As a philosophy major, it was genuinely a pleasure to take this course. Dr. Bryant is truly an expert in his field, and his lectures are absolutely enthralling. I cannot recommend this professor enough even if you aren't interested in philosophy. He will make you interested!
Very clear and great teacher!! You have to take notes in order to pass but it's such an interesting class!! He is good at explaining everything and if you answer questions you will be his favorite.
Good guy, learning curve. Once you figure out his style it's not hard, he's quick to answer any emails. Likes very literal papers, no fluff. Just copy and paste the questions and turn into answers, paraphrase from lecture and thats it. He's particular about how you deliver answers, but there's plenty of small assignments so I found it easy to pass.
I absolutely loved this professor. He made class very interesting with his lectures and would respond to emails very quick. If you don't show up, then you will not pass but if you do attend classes regularly, you should be fine. He explains everything in fine detail. My personal favorite professor so far.
TAKE PROFF BRYANT! there is lectures every day but if u show up and take notes you will be SET for exams, quizzes, and essays. He is very accessible outside of class and wants you to do your best. Extra credit is offered. The class itself can lowkey be confusing but he explains it SO clearly and uses lots of examples. 10/10 professor
great professor ! if you follow instructions its an essay A ! not really a tough grader but does offer extra credit that helps a lot. 4 testa and quizzes each week but easy and he drops the lowest of each ! he's funny and lectures are fun !
I loved this class. It was alot of reading but very thought-provoking, He gives an extra credit opportunity almost once a week (normally just responding to announcements). READ THE ANNOUNCEMENTS! CHECK EVERYDAY!
Coming from somone with a learning disability this course was very hard to grasp under this professors way of online teaching. So much reading, and no matter how hard I tried on the essays it wasnt up to his level that he wanted. If you do not already have a major interest in philosophy and want somone to push your thinking dont take this professor
His lectures were like if a preschool kid tried to teach information that they learned 2 hours before, he never seemed confident in what he was teaching. there are 2 essays due the same day along with all of the 30 question tests. Professor is always trauma dumping and airing out his wife's trauma instead of using well thought out examples.
This was a super difficult class you have to show up to class and take indept notes in order to try to under what's actually going on. If you have questions make sure you have specific ones or else Professor Bryant won't help you. Take advantage of extra credit opportunities!
Stop wasting your time and choose him!! He's an excellent professor and has clear expectations. The lowest Essay, multiple choice, and quiz is dropped at the end. The class can be confusing, but he explains it clearly and uses many examples. The people giving bad ratings are the ones that miss lectures and don't follow the instructions.
Professor Bryant is excellent. He is very knowledgeable and gives engaging lectures. The main graded parts of his class are essays and multiple-choice tests. Be sure to attend class and take thorough notes. If you do those two things, you should excel. He really cares about the success of his students. There is a good amount of extra credit.
His lectures are clear and concise, you just have to show up and take good note to do well. He is an extremely harsh grader and does not allow make-up grades for no reason. He is also just really rude and patronizing to students just from asking things.
Professor Bryant is one of the best professors I've had. All the material is super interesting and easy. Essays are straightforward too. He basically gives you an entire outline for what you should include in each paragraph. He's very passionate about the material and he's funny too. Just show up to class take notes on everything and you're golden.
Levi is an absolute HARSH grader. He's very strict when it comes to his rubrics, and unless you follow it by the dot, good luck with getting an A. All the essays and tests are based on his lectures, so you can't miss class. If I had read these reviews before I knew what this course was like, I would've never taken this course. Take psychology.
Great great great professor!! He is very intelligent and is willing to clear up any confusion. Your only assignments are a weekly 5 question quiz (at home you so you can use notes from class) and then you have 4 essays and 4 online tests. His essays are hard but he offers extra credit for them. TAKE HIM!!!!
He has some mixed reviews on here, but if you go to class you'll be fine. The class is 10 quizzes, 4 online (open note) exams, and 4 essays. He doesn't take attendance but you have to go to class because everything is lecture based. The essays can look like a lot but if you break them down and go to class they're super manageable.
If you want to find the HARSHEST grader ever, look no further than Mr. Bryant :) The structure of this class is poorly designed. The instructions/organization isn't clear but trust me, he will fail you for anything possible. 10/10 do NOT recommend taking this class. Do yourself a favor and take something or someone else. You'll thank yourself later
Professor Bryant gives amazing lectures, but his essays are graded far too harshly, especially for an introductory class. He expects nothing less than perfection on his essays and has an ego, but other than that can teach his concepts extremely well. If you're looking for a challenge take him, but if it's just for credit avoid it.
Please do yourself a favor and take another professor. He is horrible at grading papers
Incredible lectures. It's amazing that a school like Collin has a professor like this. Yes, he is a tough grader, but if you can figure it out, it's worth it. If you're looking for a blow-off class, you're wasting your time here, but Philosophy is a far more important subject than most of us give it credit for, and he is a true expert in the field.
Weekly quizzes and 4 exams that were online. He also had 4 essays but they are easy, he gives you a breakdown that is very precise on what he wants from you for each paragraph. So if you follow that breakdown guide you should be all good! Attendance is not mandatory but it the whole course is lecture based so it is important to go to class.
Best humanities professor at collin college. He is very eccentric and his lectures will stick in your head whether you like it or not. Definitely take him if you have any interest in the subject. Lots of detailed readings and papers though. Great class that inspired me to continue with philosophy.
He's a great professor, but you MUST pay full attention in class and write down direct quotes from the whiteboard in order to succeed. Fortunately, his lectures are fantastic and he's an incredibly engaging & informative professor. You know it's good when your philosophy professor looks like the natural predator of a Starbucks latte. 10/10 IGN.
Professor Bryant is a very knowledgeable professor. He is clear and concise on what he wants in papers and exams assigned. The lectures aren't mandatory, but you must be there to pass the class. That being said, he is very annoying and made me want to bang my head against the table across multiple lectures.
Professor Bryant is the strictest grader ever!!! Do not take him. He has such high standards for your essay considering this is a intro class. He is a good lecturer, but not the best professor. I tried to ask him a question one day after class, and he just told me to read my notes without even trying to answer the question. He is also just lazy.
great professor, incredible lectures and the material is super interesting. He's a very tough grader and also insanely rude and arrogant, if you can deal with that then you're in for a very interesting class. Be aware he refuses to answer any question and will just say "Check the syllabus" every single time. One of the coolest classes, just a jerk.
Professor Bryant's lectures are super engaging. Make sure to take notes and write down direct quotes. Attendance is not mandatory, but the quizzes and essays are based off of content from the lecture, so you're better off going. I will say, he is very snarky, especially when giving feedback on grades or replying to emails.
Horrible instructor for introduction to philosophy
He rants to the class about his personal life rather then teaching the subject.Stay away and take my word and take someone who values teaching their students
Avoid if you're trying to keep a 4.0 GPA. He grades extremely harshly on the essays that are 45% of the final grade. Four essays with absurd requirements and needlessly complicated. The professor is arrogant and egotistical which I disliked. No real extra credit nor leniency. The average grade for the first essay was 60%. Boring, rambling lectures
Never have I ever been graded low for a paper, I have written 35-page papers and have received and outstanding grade for them. If you take this bozo, he will lie for what the paper is worth. Take another instructor and save yourself from withdrawing. He can go to the deans with that phony grading he does.
Professor Bryant thinks he's teaching an honors class at an Ivy League university. He teaches an introductory course at a community college and grades his students like a law school professor. He's very quick to take off a significant amount of points for minor mishaps and concocts a severe attitude whenever students have questions. Run!
This professor is the most intense grader I've ever had. You will spend a full week constructing essays for his class and receive nothing higher than 60% every time. He also has an incredibly arrogant and egotistical attitude. He enjoys the power and control that comes with being a professor. Take someone else who actually cares about education.
Just as Prof. Bryant claims in his class, learning is hard. It's true; he's quite strict & if you don't show up to class, you WILL fail. It's your obligation to show up & be attentive. Note-taking is a must, & he does allow for lowest grades to be dropped+extra credit. He's only challenging you for the real world, not you as a person
Looks like Jeff Goldblum and acts like the villain from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Expects you to write about very specific things for your papers and tanks your grade if you don't. Actively mocks people who wish to get assistance. People like him make you realize why people wanted Socrates dead.
Run as far away as you can and take literally anyone else for this course. He expects you to be some sort of genius or scholar for his introductory level course. He's extremely judgmental, narcissistic, and disrespectful. He thinks he knows everything and there's no possible way you could ever know anything. You won't pass unless you're perfect.
Very condescending and downright disrespectful. The way he views his students is appalling. He'll give you a terrible grade for an essay you put a lot of effort into but then refuse to provide any feedback or pointers to help you for the next one. You are expected to be absolutely perfect. If you aren't, good luck you won't pass.
The most stereotypical philosophy geek who projects his arrogance and ego onto all of his students. He'll never give an essay grade higher than a 60, and his reasoning is because "you're a student, not an expert." Or "becoming an expert takes years of study and perfection." Dude, this is an intro course....
The most intense grader you will ever have. Very rude and judgmental when you don't understand something very complex that he refuses to explain. He forces his students to write about very specific and personal things they're dealing with or else they'll get a failing essay grade. Truly a strange person. Ego and arrogance to the max!!
I have not had a professor as good as Professor Bryant. If I wasn't graduating this May I would absolutely take him again and again. If you think he's a "Tough" professor and the class is "hard", you deadass are trying to fail
Professor Bryant is one of the best professors you'll have. I barely had to do any work. However, you must attend every lecture and take good notes because the exams and essays are solely based on them. Hardly any reading. He isn't a harsh grader, but you'll need to keep up with the deadlines. If you can follow instructions, you'll get an A.
Professor Bryant is one of the best professors you'll have. You must attend every lecture and take good notes because the essays and quizzes are solely based on them. He isn't a harsh grader, and there isn't much reading. If you can follow simple instructions, then you're guaranteed an A. He also has a great drop and extra credit policy.
Professor Bryant is an amazing professor; he is NOT a tough grader at all, and most of his assignments are easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's best to show up to class because his assignments are based on notes. As long as you take notes, you will easily pass the class! I would take him again 100%
All though the professor is tough grader, his lectures were amazing and if you put in the effort to write the essays and go get help from the learning center (going there also gives you +5 extra credit). You will do fine. Make sure to pay attention to the Class and he does not accept late work!
Although he grades strictly, the instructions directly state what he is looking for in the essay portion of the exams, and you'll receive full credit by following them. All quizzes and exams, multiple choice questions are based on the notes, some even word for word, so it's important to write down everything he writes on the board during lecture.
I understand that he may not be other peoples favorites, but I loved his class. The content is amazing and helpful outside of academic settings. Attendance isnt mandatory but its very helpful to go. I wouldnt take this class early in the morning though its a lot to take in sometimes. Its not a hard class if you just try a little and pay attention
Professor Bryant is a harsh grader who only accepts answers that exactly match his whiteboard notes. Any creativity or original thinking is penalized. If you write anything beyond what was discussed in class, you risk failing. If you value critical thinking, avoid this class.
The professor genuinely makes it so hard to even be willing to look at the assignments. Saying stuff such as " only use what I teach because I teach in a way no one else does" like dude what??? it was a summer class so no online meetings or in person classes. First essay was a thousand words and I felt like I did pretty good, till i saw i got 26/60
If you nail his essay prompts you will have the easiest class of your life.
Despite the mixed reviews on here, this class is amazing if you put in effort. Attend all the lectures and take detailed notes (make sure to date them), this will ensure you do well. For essays, follow all the instructions and clearly answer prompts, do not deviate. The lectures are a good time; the concepts are always intriguing and never boring.
I have so much to write but not enough space, all I can say is DO NOT take his class. If you are like me and he was your last choice for a Philosophy class, choose another elective! This is coming from someone who takes good notes and turns in assignments on time. Class was easy but professor made it harder than it needed to be.
All of his lectures at 14 pages long, typed on a doc and so hard to read/comprehend. He does do extra credit though but he grades so HARD for no reason. stay away unless it is your only choice WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
One of the best classes I've ever taken! Attendance isn't "graded", but if you skip you'll miss everything he writes on the board which is what you need for the quizzes and essays. He also doesn't post lectures so thats the incentive for you to show up. Dr. Bryant can come off as stern, but it's his style to keep you engaged and help you remember.
He's not a fair man.
wise guy joe pesci
Don't listen to what any of these people here have to say... heres how his class really is... All you have to do is pay attention and write down whatever he has to write down. THATS IT. His lectures are very good and there is never a dull moment in the class. For essay's, the directions are very straight forward. Follow them and you'll pass.
You will fail the first essay, but after that it's smooth sailing. The guidelines are extremely narrow and do not leave much room for creativity, but as long as you take good notes you'll pass. Occasionally, I felt he handled sensitive, non-class related subjects too carelessly. But his lectures are fun if you don't care about that.
This class won't explore your take, only Dr. Bryant's. His entertaining and well-structured lectures were fun to track conceptually, and his quirky essay rules were right up my alley. He's triggered by irresponsible or thoughtless questions, so research the syllabus and check for common-sense conclusions before asking anything.
I'm not sure why this professor has such a low rating. While he's a slightly tougher grader compared to other professors at CC, his lectures are engaging and genuinely fun to listen to if you like philosophy. He's also willing to clarify topics if you're worried the instructions or assignments are confusing. If you like philosophy, take his class!
Despite all of the negative feedback given on Dr. Bryant.. I wanted to test the waters with taking his class. He is so ingaging with the lectures. He repeats the grading criteria VERY well and gives detials and examples as well as drops your lowest two exam and essays!!! Loved him... such a caring and intellegent teacher... just dont be lazy lol
Do not miss this class if you want to pass. Follow his instructions, do the work exactly as he wants it, and you'll pass with ease. Weekly quizzes and 4 MCQ exams as well as 4 essay exams, the lowest scoreon all three gets dropped. There are manye opportunities for extra credit.
