not the best teacher but not the worst, I thought he was the worst until I got further into classes
Took one of his History classes as part of the Humanities survey. First and only time I've ever had an essay exam based on over 1000 pages of reading. :-D

Uggg--avoid him if possible. Speaks so slowly that it drives you crazy. Is very picky in grading, there really isnt anything good about his teaching!
Anal grader, lots of reading, but over all not too difficult, could be worse.
History can just be kinda boring regardless of who is teaching it, if you're not into it. He's a hard grader, but isn't college supposed to make us better at stuff?
His tests are easy..but he is prob the most anal grader ever. And he paces back and forth all class and pauses for like 10 min at a time, laughing at his own questions or jokes...very awkward teacher.
Lokken is a tough grader but very fair. His class is reasonable, you have to do the readings. He tries to make it interesting... movies and such. Big end of semester project, a fair bit of writing overall.
2 papers, 2 tests, 3 pop quizzes, lot of reading
If you take really good notes during class, you seriously don't need to do the textbook readings. He'll tell you everything you need to know for the midterm and final, just in the daily class notes!
All I have to say is HORRIBLE...if you are considering to take this class DON'T...such a pain and probably the worst professor I have EVER HAD HERE...dropped the course cause he is SUCH a anal grader, horrible!
He's a really nice guy and does know his topics well. He gives alot of reading, but most of it is fairly interesting and all of it will be required for papers. But you do have to wonder about a Canadian guy whose specialty is Latin America!
Good class, very interesting. He is a really good teacher, knows his stuff and makes class interesting. Sit up front, he mumbles a lot. Quizzes and exams are easy, if you read it's in the bag.
the worst professor i could still handle ... in other words, was on the verge of dropping this class but just barely stayed ... avoid if possible!!!!
relatively difficult teacher, but genuinely cares about subject which is good if you actually want to learn about the topic at hand
I hate this man more than anything. He thinks that he is teaching a 400 level class when he is not. Do not participate in a discussion with him because you will never be right. Forget working hard on your papers because all he gives is Cs
His topics discussed in class are very interesting, yet since there is so many things to read and to keep up with.
Very fair, genuinely good guy, read some of the stuff, work hard on the papers and take good notes and you'll do well. The only time you have to work is when writing the papers.
this classs sucked soooo bad....soooooooo boring...tests were really hard..i had him last year..but i heard this years test werent as bad..the class sucked and i didnt do much..and i got a C..which isn't too bad..so i guess its do-able
He's alright, but he's very condescending, maybe subconsciously. Very intelligent, and has a liberal approach to the course. You won't win an arguement with him but you could easily beat him in a fight.

Madd Chill mofo, Pretty smart dude, You will never win an arguement/debate so don't try, Not so much of an easy grader but he'll hook you up here and there, make sure u take good notes study guides before the tests, which are clutch
rude and will not allow anyone else's point but his own to be heard...alot of reading..dont take in the same semester as ECS151 or u'll be sorry...quizzes are not hard questions but there is so much material that they can be hard..not a bad guy just sometimes comes off very rude to his students.
BIGGEST waste of my time, he's an impossible grader and professor. DO NOT take him and if you have him drop him, he's not worth it!
on the first day of class, you are going to hate him and want to drop his class..he will grow on u tho and is now one of my favorite teachers..u will learn alot just be prepared to do reading..dont take in the same semester as freshman seminar or u will be reading non stop and never have time
The guy has a real flat personality and is pretty soft spoken. A lot of reading, but tests and quizes aren't difficult. His lectures can get very weird when he starts asking his questions. He doesnt stop till someone gets it right
He lectures every class, but try to stay engaged and participate and you will do fine. LOTS of reading. Quizzes and exams are easy. 2 papers that are kind of vague, but not impossible. At the beginning, it is really boring, but it gets better.
WORST CLASS EVER! Do NOT TAKE!!! SOOO much reading. Two papers htat arent bad but the quizzes and tests are HARD! the highest grades i got in the class was on the papers. Just dont take cuz it stinks! Worst class, and if u take it you will never want to go!
worst class i ever had to take! soooo boring and there isnt anything good about this class at all! only take this class if you enjoy reading ALOT! also if you want to be tempted to skip a class every monday wednesday or friday!
Lokken's lectures are hit and miss. Sometimes, you'll gather a lot. Others will bore you to the point of sleep. Not many people participate during class, because he usually counter-attacks your argument. So if you want to get noticed, raise your hand. Average grades in the class are Cs, though I put a little more time to it and did better.
Your typical history professor. Speaks in one tone and is very boring. Essays are difficult; vague topics. Lots of reading. Not an overly friendly guy. Wouldn't recommend this class but if you can't get out of it, its okay. I survived but with A LOT of effort and got a B-
I can see why people don't like him, but i actually really enjoyed the class. It may be because it relates to my minor, but as long as u participate ull do good. reading isnt any more than most hist classes. quizzes are easy if u read, gives u retakes on the paper, and can pass in whenever. I got a B+ and hardly tried.
Lokken is a nice guy and made history interesting. He knows alot about the subject and applies it to modern day. The course is definatly some work but he offers help and is more than fair.
I took the special topic class : history of the world today!LOVED IT! really knows his subject.however he is a strict grader. One of the best classes ive taken at bryant. Opens ur mind up to the world. i would definatley take him again!
Great professor, keeps your interest. Take him if you are interested in the topic. One of his special topic classes is great for political science people.
I can't see anyone could like this guy? First of all, if you sit toward the back of class you will not be able to hear him; speaks very softly. This guy was John Jolly's replacement, sadly he is no comparison. Mr. Jolly is missed.
A little boring, but it's a history class. Funny guy. A few exams and a term paper. A lot of reading.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
He definately knows his history but it is hard to follow his teaching. It allways seems like he is all over the place which makes it almost impossible to take notes. The only thing that is saving me in this class is that he gives really good study guides that if you take the time to follow you will do fine.
Had him for Sp Topics: History in World. Good teacher. Knows his stuff. There is a lot of reading and the tests are soley based on reading. He has a pretty strict attendance policy but is overall an ok guy. Its an easy B but incredibly difficult A. He also is a FLAMING LIBERAL, if that sorta thing matters to you.
Extremely liberal, has an adgenda to force his opinion on students. You will never read a book in his class that even hints that America doing something good. He knows his stuff very well, however if you ever try to fight the opposite opinion of him he will bring up historical events that are not even closely relevent to your arguement.
Extremely Boring, Before I came to bryant I was thinking about being a history teacher, after this class will drop out before ever taking another history class again
Class can be boring, but not as hard as people say. Just study the study guides, and you will do fine. Do not even have to do the many readings assigned.
I recommend Lokken. Yes, he is EXTREMELY liberal.. but I also happen to be a liberal so I didn't mind it. I discourage any hardcore, sensitive republicans from taking this class. But I thought he was a good teacher. Sit in the front so you can understand what he's saying. He tends to mumble, so ask him if he can speak up or repeat something.
If you do most of the readings and see him in office hours you can do well in his class. He's not as bad as everyone makes him seem...
I took 'History in Our World Today' as an elective and it is the most pointless, incessant class you could take. Unless you agree with the extreme liberal opinion of Mr. Lokken and his unprofessional and breathlessly boring lectures about his own opinion, this egotistical and inflated professor is not worth your money, or your time.
He is a very nice guy...but his class is extremely boring...you MUST read..his exams are based on the reading...he is very liberal so if that bothers you don't take him.
Really cares about the topic, race and slavery in the atlantic, and very passionate. One of my best classes
Boring classes but so easy... Only short papers and you don't really need to read just take notes
Nice guy, ut the subject matter is really boring. It would be nice I he could try to make it a little more interesting and engaging. The lectures are often very dry and somewhat unclear with no real structure. All assessments are in class (even papers) and timed, which may be a problem if you are a person who freezes on tests.
Very smart professor. He will help with anything if you ask. You will learn much in this class!
The guy does not care about anyone's opinions other than his. If you have a different opinion than him then you are automatically wrong. Also isnt very understanding, I was literally only 1 minute late to his office and told me he wouldn't accept any of my late work. Do not take him he does not care about teaching his students.
Wouldn't recommend. Nice guy, but boring. I withdrew.
Really not as bad as I thought. Lokken really knows what he is talking about, and if you do the readings and listen in class, you can get an A. problem was that the readings can be boring, very boring and I zoned out a lot of the time in class. :/ but as a teacher he is clear and easy to understand, but only if you can pay attention.
I see all of these bad ratings but Lokken really knows what he's talking about. This class was one of my favorites. He gave 3 quizzes and dropped the lowest grade, takes attendance adds points to final grade if you participate, and all tests are essays. He is a fair grader on the essays so just make sure you outline all of the prompts sufficiently!
Absolutely best history professor at Bryant!! He is passionate about his work and it shows.
He seems to be a nice person but he is an awful professor. His class is so boring I have fallen asleep many times. He has a quiet voice and monotone which makes it hard to keep your focus in class. He does not explain assignments very well in fact he did not explain what he wanted in our paper until after we handed it in to him. Wouldn't recommend
He really is a great guy who is passionate about the subject that he teaches and cares about his students; however, he is a very dry lecturer. He does not often use powerpoint slides--or any type of visual--for that matter. I do not regret taking his class, but I do wish he could have done a better job engaging the students into the topic.
Nice guy, but a tough grader and a very boring lecturer. You can do well in this class but must go to his office hours for clarification on the essays. The assignment topics are just extremely broad. Not a large workload though.
As long as you keep up with the reading you'll be more than fine. He's very fair and will drop your two lowest quiz grades. Had to write an in-class essay and a take home one, but wasn't too difficult
Don't be fooled by the course title, YOU WILL NOT LEARN A THING PAST 19th century. Class is boring, if you try to ask a question, he will answer in a way that made you feel you should have never spoken. Hardest grader. Will purposely put tricks on test and admits to it and then will project bad essays in class and states why this person is wrong.
Class attendance is required for an easy 20%. Participating gets you an extra 1-2%. That can make the difference, especially if you bomb a quiz. Quizzes are 25% and SUPER easy, if you read (or read the online outline)!!! 25% for the Midterm and 30% for the Final. He gives you the prompt about a week before and it gives you the chance to prepare.
This is the worst professor you will ever have at Bryant. He does not care at all if you fail or not, he does not answer questions. There is no point in studying because you will always fail. If you do not understand something, it is your fault. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you want another year at this school.
Nice guy but very unclear during his lectures. The lectures and the class itself is extremely boring and dull. Doesn't teach from a powerpoint or anything, so better listen well in class. He's very hard to understand and a quiet speaker. The quizzes are simple but difficult to get a good grade on and this course require a lot of reading.
The class is labeled poorly. Its called History In Our World Today but you will only learn about the Spanish Inquisition from 1500-1800. All classes are full lectures where he writes nothing on the board. If you ask a question, he will answer by saying the answer was evident if you payed attention. Lots of reading and only 4 tough tests.
You must attend class. So much reading you may want to reconsider taking the course. If you seek help you will find it.
Lokken is a smart professor but he does not connect with his class. Every class is just a lecture with very few questions, rarely ever notes on the board, and the class is feels like it is just going on forever.
Prof. Lokken has to be one of worst professors at the university. His lectures are long and boring and barely engages the class. There are no slides or notes on the board. It is almost impossible to follow along with what he is teaching because he jumps around like a squirrel that was just by a truck. Be prepared to read, and then read some more.
I tried hard to give him a chance but he's consistently been unhelpful and cold, despite this being my second course with him. An unreasonable and unclear professor, it is very understandable why there are only 8 other students enrolled in my class with him. Beware, he's inconsiderate and cold, and does not value you as an individual.
Professor knows a lot about the the class subject but he is terrible with teaching. Doesn't really give out a lot of test. More on writing paper's and essay quizzes. He is a terrible grader. Really tough with grading. I would not recommend taking any of his classes
He is very knowledgeable in his field of study. However, in class he comes off as very cold and standoffish. Don't ask questions you don't already know the answer to. If you do ask a question in class, he will belittle you and say something like "Well, what did the reading say?" He deducts points if you don't correctly answer his cold-calling.
All he does is talk the whole class. So boring.
Terrible. All he does is talk, very hard to understand what hes talking about. Don't take this class!
He is terrible. All he does is lecture the whole class! You can never understand what he is saying. Random impossible pop quizzes. You don't learn a thing! If you get the professor DROP IT! Do yourself a favor or you'll regret it!! All you do for this course is read a million long articles. He's not helpful or understanding.
HORRIBLE. All he does is lecture, and you can't understand a word that he is conveying. Not helpful, random pop quizzes that are impossible to pass. An impossible amount of random readings of articles. I highly recommend drop this class if you have him! You'll regret it if you don't..
Worst professor I've ever had
Worst professor I have ever had!! Drop the class before its too late, you'll regret it...
Don't ever take his class. All he does is lecture and gives pop quizzes that make no sense. Doesn't answer questions clearly and gives articles to read every single class and he just talks about them the whole class. Do yourself a favor and switch while you can!
Worst professor I have ever had. Drop the class. All he does is lecture and its so hard to understand what hes saying, he gives random pop quizzes and doesn't even tell you what to study. Not helpful at all!! TERRIBLE
I dont understand this class. He lectures the whole time but teaches nothing. There is a lot of rambling and unrelated lectures. Does not support class discussion or open debate on topic at hand. Do not recommend. Average in the class is currently a D.
He is the worst professor. He never makes anysense during lectures, he speaks really low to the point where you cant hear him, and you question if he really knows what hes talking about. His quiz are impossible to pass, he said it himself he doesnt give out A's or B's the "quizzes" are more like formal essays. he belittles his students. AVOID!!
This class was the worst choice I have ever made. Professor Lokken is not understanding or helpful at all. He ca not answer a question nor he would want to answer your questions. Your grade is solely based on exams, all essays. If you want to memorize the entire Latin American history with every single detail then take him, he will neve give an A.
Do not take his class!!! His tests are hard and all on the books so you have to read them. He's such a tough grader - I honestly questioned if I was going to pass. His lectures are extremely boring (he literally talks in monotone for LONGER than the class time) and he never interacts with the class. Seriously, do. not. take.
I actually love history but this was quite frankly the most boring class, partly due to the material but mostly due to the professor himself he didnt even have a syllabus 2 weeks into the semester. He has very dull lectures and is condescending towards students which discourages class discussion. He refuses to give As.
Clearly one of the worst professors I have had. I barely passed this class despite studying for hours on end. he just rants over few notes he actually puts on his board and is very vague as to what he expects on his in-class assignments which count for most of the grade.
Absolutely horrible professor. There's no flow to the material he teaches and it is very hard to understand the topic he's covering. Very unclear in communication and doesn't clearly mention what he expects of his students. I had absolutely no idea what was happening in the class even when I attended and eventually had to withdraw from the course.
Not the most interesting professor but is fair to his students. A few assignments control your grade, but as long as you read the text, you should be fine.
Worst professor at Bryant University. Not willing to help and is rude to students. Poor grader and even if you do the reading he will give you a poor grade. Doesn't put the time or effort in and I didn't learn anything. Fair warning..
Probably the worst Professor at Bryant University, maybe at any University. He is extremely rude to students and his classes are the most boring things i've ever been through. He speaks extremely slow and makes no sense. Not forgiving at all and his grading is very tough. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Worst professor I have ever had. Rude to students and mumbles through his lectures. Most boring and pretentious professor at Bryant University.
One of the worst professors that I could have hoped to get for a class. His style of teaching is to lecture you until you fall asleep and expects you to be interested in the things that he is "teaching" about. I thought that I would enjoy his class but I was very wrong.
