Great prof but be ready to work, you'll have to earn your grade.
You will have to earn your grade but coming from someone who made low B's and C's in high school I'd say getting an A in 1408 and a B in 1409 that he's pretty generous if you come to class and study!! I loved him. Great personality and fun!
This professor is really COOL! He is not an easy teacher, but if you follow his directions and show up for class, then you should be able to pass. Studying is mandatory or you will bomb the class. He is also very nice on the eyes!
I only had him for Anatomy and Physiology I lab. He was well organized and always on time. He is very helpful when you have questions. He expects you to do the disections, but will help you out if you run into problems. He always gives helpful hints as to what may be on the practicles. I would have loved to have taken the lecture with him too.
I am currently in Mr. Luyster's A&P I Lab and lecture. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone who is nervous about taking A&P. I was a wreck just hearing how hard this class is. It does take a lot of study time but he makes things extremely easy to understand and I have no doubt I will pass this class. He is crystal clear about everything.
Hard class, TCC's best A&P teacher! He is crystal clear about what to study, go see him after class for advice, gives extra credit bonus questions on all tests. Very helpful, interesting, and fair. Save yourself a lot of studying if you go to class and study what he tells you to. Otherwise you are studying everything. Wish he taught AP2. Great man.
Hard class, great teacher, well organized, punctual, clear, does everything to help you succeed and learn. Be on time or early. He had a pop quiz in one of his labs because so many people were late. He gave the three people that took it easy questions that gave them 3 extra points on their next practical. :)
Mr. Luyster is on the higher end of science teachers at south campus, in my opinion. I had him for A&P I lecture. He tried to make things as clear as possible and had a good sense of humor. It's a hard class to take, but he tries to have everyone pass. His test are multiple choice, but not necessarily easy. It all depends on your efforts to pass.
I never thought that I would pull off a B in biology. Honestly, I hated my other biology class and thought this would be miserable also. It wasn't. He is clear on what he expects and is willing to help you out anytime. He is a super nice guy who will not hand you an A or a B, but will let you know exactly what is expected to get one.
Not an easy class, but he is more than willing to help you understand it. Go to his office and he will give you all the time you need. I woudn't take anyone else on South campus for this class. He is awesome. He trully cares about his students and wants you to pass and pass well!
GREAT TEACHER!!always willing to help. You HAVE to come to class!! He is always willing to help, tests are hard, but if you do what he tells you and study hard they are totally do-able. I made a high A. Definitely recommend this teacher. He gives review questions at beginning of every class, and makes class fun and interesting.
TAKE THIS GUY! He will be one of your favorite teachers and you will always remember him. Truly cares about his students. His office is always open. Hard class but he will help you as much as you need. Review questions at the beginning of each class tend to show up on tests so keep up with those.
He does not hand out A's, but makes this class very challenging and enjoyable. I would not take anyone else for A&P. He does a great job!!
GREAT TEACHER! Hard class! He is AWESOME! Really cares about his students! I would advise you to get a RECORDER! Any teacher you take for this class your gonna have to READ THE BOOK! I'm taking him for A&p 2 if that tells you anything!!!

A wonderful teacher who loves what he does, just read ahead of his lectures and you will do fine. At the beginning of each new lecture class he has review questions to make sure you got what he explained last class period. A brilliant professor and a loving guy. Would recommend this professor to anyone.
Took for Lab & Lec. Great at explaining concepts. Interesting. Lec tests are multi choice with a few essay questions (sometimes they count, sometimes they're extra credit). Tough. If attendance or participation is low he'll hand out pop quizzes. Gives review ques every class which are really helpful. Def buy all the study aides he recommends.
A must for science majors!!! Great at explaining! Approachable. Test reviews & extra credit! Difficult class & difficult tests, but from test bank. Outlines how to do well in A&P. If you listen to him and try, he will walk a mile for you if you need help.
Mr Lyster is the best teacher I've ever had..he is always there for you and will help out in your study groups if you ask him. Hard course and you really need to be there every day. My fav teacher of all time. 2 thumbs up. Take him now before his classes go.
He is a wonderful teacher!!! I had him for both a&p 1 and 2. He gives review questions everyday in class to help you make sure you know your stuff. Attending the class is a must and plus, he'll bump your grade up if your lacking a point or two to get to the next letter grade. He goes out of his way to help you understand the material. He's aesome!!
Plan on staying the entire class period for evening class. 6p.m-8:40p.m not worth it!
This is the best teacher I have ever had. His class was very hard but he explains it so it is easy to understand. He gives review questions before every class. If you attend every class then he will help you grade if you are close to an A
Great prof. A&P is not an easy class, don't expect to be given a grade. You will earn your grade in his class. Goto class, he gives extra points. Key to getting a good grade on test: take good notes in class, and go back and read those topics in the book. Totally willing to help you understand the material.
You are crazy if you do not take this teacher. He is the best on South Campus. He truly cares about his students. He is smart, funny, and his energy is incredible. This is a hard class, but you won't want to miss a single class. He makes you want to be there. Take this guy for A&P and then enjoy your semester.
OMG HE IS THE BEST IN SOUTH CAMPUS!!!! I would highly advise to get a recorder for his class and really pay attention with his expression like THIS WOULD BE A GREAT TEST QUESTION OR ESSAY QUESTION take notes immediately and study study study!!! Cause those will be on the test and never ever miss his class! Also it's better to have him for both lab and lec cause it will be better!!!
Please please, take Mr. Luyster. It not a easy class but he clarifies the information to where everyone can understand. USE A RECORDER! You won't regret it. Read the Book, Attend Class, Study you notes and you should be fine. If not, he's always willing to help you. Shouldn't be a reason why no one can't get a good grade in his class. GOOD LUCK!
He is an amazing teacher and he really cares about his students. Always willing to help during his office hours. Best teacher I ever had.
A great instructor. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Could easily teach at a better school. I enjoyed his class with one small exception. My class was very quiet and he likes a lot of class discussion and often griped about our quietness, at times to the point of disrupting the flow of the lecture-very disconcerting. Still, I would take him again.
I had him for both A&P I and II and he is a wonderful professor. Review questions are posted up at the beginning of every class to see if you are caught up and understand the material. He does give EC opportunities. It is a hard class; however, he makes it very interesting and is always willing to help.
SO much fun! This class is tough no matter who you take: therefore you must be willing to put in the work. I would reccommend taking M W F course b/c of the amnt of info. This instructor was willing to help as long as you were willing to learn even offered extra credit opportunities. I would recommend this professor to anyone signing up for A&P!
Great instructor. Very enthusiastic. The only thing is, he uses a test bank just like some of the other instructors do. Test banks are available online for any student with the funds to purchase them. This is unfair to those of us that actually study. So, Mr. Luyster, if you are reading this, please stop using and help thwart the cheaters! :)
I would not recommend this teacher. Atleast half of my classmates dropped. It was very hard to stay on his level.
He is a REALLY tough teacher, you really have to work hard and study. Can be rude and impatient if you don't know answers. Gives extra credit, always answer essay questions!! I took him for both a&p 1&2. I made a 75 and 78 and i could have studied more, his class is a full load!
If your down with the spoon feeding, and big chief pad, this guys is for you. Lots of extra credit. Lectures about the indegent and their uselesness is mentioned each lecture. If not in the fold of his Teacher's pet crew, RUN. Let me know what hospital that your employed so I make certain never to go.
Mr. Luyster is a very very helpful instructor. He takes the time to help you understand the material. He cares about his students. He has helped me a whole lot. He has a great sense of humor, if you are willing to study and actually learn the material I recommend taking Mr. Luyster. He is the best in south campus. You will have to earn your grade but it's worth it because you will gain knowledge for the rest of your health care career. 5 starts for Mr. Luyster
This teacher is not that good at all. His test are very hard, and are not from the book at all. The questions to his test are ones he makes up from his own head. And test are 70 question and 3 essay questions. Every test is like this. All to be done in 60 min. Will not take this tearcher ever again!!!
Luyster is a good teacher but he doesnt like you copying his power points and he doesnt post them online so its hard to study for his tests.
Very good, very relevant teacher. He's more than willing to answer any questions you might have and provides a number of extra credit opportunities. If you participate in class you'll do very well (and if you use Mastering A&P online you're sure to do very well on the tests)- it's also helpful to at least jot down the key words in his powerpoints.
Hard to understand at times. Does not like for you to copy his power point. Does not give a study guide for the test review. He teach one way, then the test will be worded totally different.
He is the best!!! I enjoy every single lecture. He make the material easy and interesting. He explains everything really well. he may reword the material so everyone can understand but if he didn't do that whats the point of having a professor. I defenelly recommend this teacher. Love his class.
He's a decent teacher, and is not overly difficult. He does harp on certain aspects that are not typically tested on and uses too many personal stories. He does have pretty good teaching method, but really doesn't like you writting during class, even if you aren't copying his power points. Also, has a desire to 'fit in' with some students too much.
Do the work. Read ahead, study hard, complete Mastering A&P and listen in class and you will do well in this class. Loved this class even though it was hard. He explains things clearly & they make even more sense if you read ahead as you should. Highly recommended. You get what you put into this class.
by far the worst teacher ever.
I took his class for A&PI and I would have to say if I could, I would never take another professor for a science course again. Luyster is awesome. The class in general is hard no matter what professor you have but he helps you understand everything.
by far one of the worsts teachers i have ever had. he is so sarcastic and when you ask for helps all he says is well what does the book say. all these people giving good reviews were obviously his favorite and did the health club or his cycling class. don't take him if you want to actually learn.
Mr Luyster is awesome. I really like him and so does everyone else who makes A's in his class. The class is hard cuz it's science but if you read ahead, record his lectures, study, and ask questions you will do well. Hi adds 2 xtra points to your final grade if you were in class every day and gives hw that helps your grade.STUDY STUDY STUDY
I would say that Mr.Luyster helped me like science like he has made me more interested in it than ever. i love the way he teach! its just that you HAVE to read and study and stay ahead on everything because if you dont then you will not get it! It's like he cares if we got it or not if we didnt get it he would explain it more.
You must work to get a good grade, but when it's over you feel like you've learned alot! He's great with explaining and makes things easy to understand!! love him!
By far the greatest professor I have had. This man is a true professional and an asset to the Science program. If you are entering a Health Career, he is a must. You LEARN the material. You will EARN your grade. I made strong A in his class. If you do the work, you will too. Serious students only.
Wish i had him for ap2
Luyster was AMAZING! I got a 95 but I worked hard.Dont think ur gonna slack off in this class be prepared to work ur butt off dont take more than 2 classes while taking this class record lectures read the book when he hints pop quizes prepare!Have questions?Ask!If ur whining that hes hard u didnt study enough!
Great instructor. Keeps you interested, he is fun and passionate.
If you like having to rush through lecture because the Professor keeps answering one lady's irrelevant questions, then take this professor. Also If you like having to write a page for an essay question, then this Professor is perfect. Also if he misses an entire week of class you will still have your exam the day he gets back.
It took a lot of hard work to earn my A in this class. But I followed Professor Luyster's advice, took advantage of his extra credit opportunities, & showed up to every class. I learned a lot, and I had fun in the process. His course was a great experience. I definitely recommend him.
Luyster is very difficult. His test questions are tricky and he wants you to work hard for your grade. Even though I didn't get the grade I wanted, I would still recommend him if you want to walk away knowing all the information!
Learned a lot. Great teaching skills. Wish he'd do what most other teachers do and replace your lowest score with final exam score (provided it's higher)- basically allowing final to count for 2 grades. Also ask more quests on test to lower what each one counts for. He does give extra credit opportunities n uses Mastering AP which helps grade.
Awesome teacher! This was the second time I took this course and I got a C the first time I took it (the teacher wasn't great) but I retook it with this teacher and he was a MUCH better teacher! Read the chapters like I did and you'll get an A in this class. Definitely recommend him!
Paul Luyster is one of the best instructors I've ever had for anything! He cares about students success, and ensures you not just know, but UNDERSTAND the material. He doesn't come off great at first, but he really knows his stuff and will make sure you have the proper foundation for success in the future. Take class seriously to get the A.
He is one of the most AMAZING teachers I have ever had. I'm not going to lie, his class is hard, but I learned so much! The lecture consists of 4 tests, all of which are derived from his lectures. I would recommend a recorder for his class. If you are ever unclear about something, he is very willing to help. He wants his students to succeed!
professor luyster is ok I took his A&P course he is a high level science instructor, but you are bascily on your own when it comes to the exams, he does not give a review for the exams, his lectures are fast past and you should record every lecture. His test questions are some times to long and his mulit. choice questions are similar so you better
My best teacher ever- Luyster has a great teaching techniques. His classes are very interesting. He is always willing to help students.Gives easy tests and enough extra credit. I always recommend this lecturer for best knowledge and expected grades.
Prof Luyster is probably the best professor I have had. His genuine interest in his class and his student's success shows. A&P is a difficult class, but he makes learning it fun. His review questions at the beginning of the lecture are extremely helpful! There are essay questions on the test, but if you pay attention,he tells you what they will be
He is an awesome professor! a&p can be over whelming at times but he takes you through it as pain free as possible. The review questions he does at the beginning of every class also help. The essays are what make or break your test grade, but he drops hints.Over all he want you to LEARN & understand and you will if you put in your work.
I wouldn't recommend this teacher if you're a full-time student. He's very obsessed with a&p, his lectures are alright but he rushes through some of the material. He's very picky on the test especially on the essay part. Everything has 2 be "his way", he will tell you that the class HAS 2 be your priority & he's also very rude, he's not supportive.
Prof Luyster is great. He is great at teaching science courses. He tries very hard to make the content understandable to everyone in the class. He also keeps the class interesting and relevant to real life. If you science background majors Bio will be very easy for you. It is kind of watered down AP and general biology. Lab a somewhat harder.
Makes his lectures very easy to understand. This was my only class so I had a lot of time to study which this class does require a lot of study time! You will need the textbook. Made a B in the class which I really could have gotten an A had a tried a little harder at the end. Only bad thing about this class is that he crammed last chapters!
Took Bio for Science Majors and made a B. It's a hard class and requires lots of time to study. He does his best to make the material understandable. I enjoyed it very much. One of my fav professors ever.
Would not recommend this professor. Isn't very considerate of full time students based on the amount of work given. If youre sitting in class on your laptop minding your business he will come up to you and tell you that you cant use it anymore because its distracting to him. I wasnt bothering anyone so i dont understand the problem.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Who do I take now that he doesn't offer A&P2!!! He helps students a lot, answers every question, but of course you have to study, this is A&P lets be realistic here. Would def. recommend him.
I am IN LOVE w/prof Luyster! His lectures are very clear & interesting. He's clearly passionate about teaching. There are very specific things he want included in essay Q's, fyi. He doesn't accept vague, BS answers. He does, however, offer to read your answers before test day - VERY helpful if you take advantage of this. I wish he taught A&P2!
Professor Luyster is hands down the best professor you could get for Anatomy and Physiology. I am leaving his class with a thourough understanding of the subject and am confident to continue onto A&P 2. This is not an easy class no matter which professor you get, but I cannot imagine I would understand the subject as well as I do with anyone else.
Great teacher but not easy. Only peev is he does reviews each class period which are helpful but sometimes doesn't cover everything because it takes up so much times. Very passionate about teaching and helping students. Quite entertaining. Highly recommend him for a very demanding class
His class is no joke especially since it is A&P its a class that should be taking alone. Its basically study study
Excellent instructor. I haven't been in a classroom in years...I mean YEARS and he made sure I got it. So pleased to get an A but I earned it.
This professor changed my life. Though his class is very demanding, it is very beneficial as well. He's very sweet, thoughtful and fun. Highly recommend this teacher.
Great prof. So helpful! Adds 2 points to overall grade at the end of course for perfect attendance and gives extra credit and essay q's before tests so you know some what to study. You have to work super hard in this course but this is the best prof to take!!
I'm a oncology RN. I took Mr. Luyster for both A&P I and II. I strongly reccomend him. His class is by no means easy, You will have to study your but off but it will prepare you very well for nursing school or whatever other health care profession you are persuing.
if you not a quick learner dont take his class or you will fail it.
If you want to get through nursing school you need determination, strong study skills, and a solid foundation in A+P. Mr Luyster helps you achieve all of these things. He ensures that you learn what you need to know, and he teaches you how to be a successful student. He also motivates and encourages his students. I owe my success at TCC to him.
He is by far the best professor I've ever had. He provides you with a solid foundation for any health profession. He genuinely cares about his students and is very approachable. A&P is a hard subject so it wont be a breeze but can be done. Its hard work but worth it. I ended with an A+. Highly recommend him.
Great professor. Show up, do the work, read ahead, don't be late! No nonsense kind of professor. Study hard and you will succeed.
Paul Luyster is a great guy, I took his biology for non-biology majors this summer and he gives great lessons. He will not give you a grade, you earn your grade. Not the easiest but you are guaranteed to learn something, isn't that why we go to school? I would definitely take him again if I could.
I took Mr. Luyster's class in a very cool 2 week long camping course along with geology, (if you have this opportunity to take this do it you won't regret it!)Paul is a great instructor and breaks down his lectures making sure each student understood. Highly recommended course & professor!
Professor Luyster is truly a one of a kind teacher! He is always there for his students and really devoted to his field of study, responsibilities as a teacher, and his students. His lecture tests include 3 random essay questions from a selection of 12 options, so be sure you can put the material into your own words for writing those essay answers!
Mr. Luyster is a fantastic professor. He explains the material very well. Gives 2 pt bonus for perfect attendance, so be present! He's helpful too! Record the lectures and take pictures of his review questions at start of class, they make a great study guides for tests. This isn't an easy course, but he makes it as easy to understand as possible.
This was my second time taking him. I passed w a C but I wanted a better grade. He is big on learning through essay questions. It may seem daunting to get 12 essay questions for each unit but trust me. Answer those questions, understand the answers, and you will pass your exams. He also gives a 2% attendance bonus on top of your final grade.
Arrogant and self-absorbed. I made an A pretty easily but I've been in healthcare for 11 years. He's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He can't stand it if you aren't hanging on his every word. And these young girls on campus fall all over themselves like he's the Mick Jagger of A&P. I think that's why his ego is so inflated
I loved taking Professor Luyster's A&P 1 class. This was my first time back in school since 2010 and I passed with an A because of his clarity and how descriptive and relatable he is. I wish he would teach A&P II but no such luck! Highly recommend for serious students.
Absolutely recommend Professor Luyster. One of the best, if not the best, professor I have ever had. The subject matter is difficult but he is more than willing to do anything to help his students in any way possible. His tests have essay questions but don't let that scare you, they help you learn SO much and the essays are also extra credit!
Luyster is a very tough intructor and teaches the material as if you should already know it. If you have no medical experience or background, he is not the prof to take for this class! Tests are very hard and his reviews are at start of class and not one question from them are on tests. Useless reviews. He's nice but VERY hard!
Professor Luyster is the BEST A&P professor you can ask for. His lectures are clear and focused. Unlike other professors, he doesn't stand there and read from power points, he doesn't go on about his personal life, and he teaches from the actual book that the class requires. He has exam essay questions, which work great as a study guide. TAKE HIM!
Class was easy to follow and went well with the book, the essay questions are hard work but very helpful! I recommended him to a friend and she signed up for his class this semester, but said they changed her professor the week before class started. I feel sorry for her and the students that are missing out on his class. He is a great professor!!
Grateful I had the opportunity to learn from the BEST BIO professor at South Campus. His A+P course was not easy, but most definitely LEARNED the material. Paul Luyster is one of a kind, you will not regret taking his class! And the Health Science Club is a must for health professions students.
I took professor Luyster for a&p lab I really enjoyed his class but it was tough. He's a really touch grader he takes off for misspelled words on the lab practical and expects you to know what he teaches in his lectures.
Very informative lectures, and very entertaining. I took him for the biology majors class. He has been very helpful with all of my crazy questions about the class and my biology degree. Those of us that received an A in his class had to work for it (but that is expected in a majors class ). It was a good challenge. Good sense of humor too.
6 wk bio 1 class is jumbled & poorly structured. It's more like a crash course w/ basic chemistry thrown in and very fast paced. I would not recommend it to anyone new to biology and chemistry. LAB EXAMS WERE SO STUPID! He had us running around the room with limited time for what easily could have been a written exam. Ranted on irrelevant topics.
Hands down the best teacher! When I took A&P, I didn't understand why it was so demanding. Let me tell you, the expectations he has for his students is what gave me the drive to do well in all of my classes, including the ones now while in Nursing School. By making me put a lot of effort into this class, he turned me into a straight A" student.
I feel like this is the most I've actually learned from a science class. He focuses on the main ideas and lets you read about the details. This is helpful when you have to take the comprehensive final. He has packets for the chapters that we read and it covers the main points well. Answer and understand the questions on the packet and it'll be fine
This teacher is a tough grader when he actually grades papers. He is more concerned about his own studies(NP) rather than grading and helping his students out. If you take him, be prepared to study and wait forever for grades to be posted. GOOD LUCK
Luyster is one of the best professors I've had in my time at TCC. His lectures are informative, clear, and enjoyable. Prepare to study (preferably in a group), participate/ask questions, and do not show up to class late. He is willing to work with you and his expectations are stated clearly. It is obvious that he is truly passionate about science.
no powerpoint must use Campbell book, every class will give sheets with questions on it and separate the class to groups each group has to answer and drow their part as presentation, all he does is standing and asking a difficult question to each group. 3 tests only the last is comprehensive, each test is 70 Questions, 2 lab test each 50 Questions.
I absolutely hated this class. I did not learn a single thing from him that I could have stayed home and learned from a textbook. He grades you critically given the fact that he does not actually teach, lecture is basically students presenting their portion of the homework and him asking difficult questions to the group. Not a good professor.
Professor Luyster is a great professor who really knows his stuff. You must attend class and read the book if you want to pass. He gives out a lot of assignments where in most of them you have to present to the class. Although he is tough he really cares for his students by teaching them responsibility and to think out the box.
Lusyter's class was a pretty good class to take, though he does make you work really hard to pass. Still, he clearly loves what he does and is willing to help you out only if you make an effort to reach out to him. Expect 3 tests and 1 comprehensive final exam, concept map assignments, a scientific paper, and study guides.
Took for A&P2, he is not easy but he makes you learn the material!! Which is actually a good thing. 3 book test, 2 lab test, comp final over a&p 1 and 2, lots of HW. Each test has 12 possible detailed essay questions and day of test picks 3 at random by rolling a dice. He wants you to succeed!!! But YOU have to put in the work, but he is awesome!
By far one of the worst professors Ive ever took!! So rude, SO much work due every week , group projects , 4 tests, weekly quizzes and the toughest grader! Replies to emails but will make you feel dumb. All tests are proctored and he is Very strict about it. Will deduct points from your grade for little mistakes. Barely passed and studied everyday
Worst professor . Please do not take if expecting a understanding prof. throughout a pandemic while online . Too much work , too much assignments, and hes literally rude. Even if you do everything right youll barely pass or even fail.
Professor Luyster is the best professor I've had the chance of taking. He is so invested in his students' goals and is a great mentor. If you are looking to go to medical school or anything within the scientific realm take him. Its hard, as is the case with any career in that spectrum. He is here to help us grow, nothing good comes easy. WORK 4 IT!
Professor Luyster is one of the greatest professors I've had. His class will prepare you to be the student you're supposed to be. You want to go to graduate school or pursue any health science specialty? Take his class. He is fair. If you reach out to him, he will help you.
Professor Luyster is super caring for you and is willing to help you out in your college career. Dont think you can pass his class without studying but hes really clear and fair. He makes sure you actually learn and not just get a grade and actually is passionate about his job. Read the book and youll be fine. Overall really good Professor!
When I took this class,he is very tough but understand, if you put in the time to read the book and ask a lot of questions and figure out different study method then you will pass the class.
Professor Luyster is very straightforward with what he expects from students. His lectures, assignments, and tests require critical thinking but are extremely doable and he is a very understanding and helpful professor! He does a great job at teaching bio 2! Take him!
Im actually in awe with this professor. Ive never had a professor that I've respected so much and willing to take their class over and over. In this class, never have I once got tired because he makes his lectures so interesting and tells lots of stories! he's sarcastic allot but I've been used to that growing up. Genuinely cares for his students!
From someone who used to not do great in school, if you put the TIME and EFFORT to study for this class, you WILL make a great grade! Know your priorities. He offers extra credit which will really save you. 2 lecture exams, 3 lab exams (one will be a group project) & final. Then 5 extra points towards final grade for perfect attendance and hw!
He is very straight to the point and tells you how it is. It will be hard, and you need to put in effort. But he is always willing to help and provided resources. 3 lecture exams (one is comprehensive) and 2 lab exams. He always curved the lab exam grades. PAY ATTENTION when he mentions something may be a good test question! Do the practice tests!
Professor is really good. He genuinely cares about his students and is very straightforward. The class is hard, due to my time management issues I received an okay grade. But I rated him good because I believe the impact of the tests, the scientific paper and the overall homework is not well balanced enough on the grades. This is an opinion.
Very good lectures, emphasizes key concepts while letting you study smaller details. Offers extra credit for attendance and other assignments. The lecture and lab exams are quite difficult and require critical thinking. The class is hard but he wants you to succeed and gives many opportunities to do so and this has been my favorite class so far.
This professor is very nice and has respect for his students. but at the same time would be like " you need to focus more on this and get rid of other extra activities". He's one of those teachers who makes you want to eat, sleep, and breathe biology.
teacher gets upset easily even if you ask even a dumb question and he really does little to nothing on explaining the material in detail in lecture for the chapter of the week you are basically teaching yourself the material , him just asking hard questions to the class and has very inbalanced grading scales dont waste your money & energy here
It is a tough class but if you put in the effort you are guaranteed to pass. Tips: Go to the science learning center & SI sessions, use quizlet to create your own study guides for lab (use write mode), ASK QUESTIONS. He responds & thoroughly to emails, genuinely cares for his students, and his test are super easy if you just read the book!
Lectures were always straight to the point and easy to understand-- I was able to get by during the end of the semester without having to read the textbook. Limited extra credit was given. Prof is always willing to help. He is very big on attendance and participation. Class is very information heavy, but easy to pass if you take good notes.
Never again. When his classes would fail tests he would yell at us, calling us stupid and saying we wouldn't make it in our careers. His lectures were boring, most of the time you are doing the teaching. If you didn't get to certain questions he would tell you to hope your classmates are correct. He also wouldn't do a good job of explaining.
Mr. Luyster is a professor we all need honestly. He is strict yes but also passionate about biology. This is college now and classes will only get harder and he did really good at helping me prepare for harder classes. I highly recommend taking him.
There is so much homework for this class it is insane. I like the lab book, and the lectures are good. but too much to keep up with and you're expected to memorize and read 499042 terms in each section. class is great if it's the only one you're taking or don't have a job, I'm only taking 2 and this has me doing homework from 9 am-11pm daily
IF DAVE RAMSEY TAUGHT BIO: This guy goes off on abortion, anti-trans, immigration tangents. Constantly complains about vegans and baristas at Starbucks. Often gets so sidetracked and wastes lecture time. Most of the time had to learn on my own, he will deduct points to students he doesn't like for being late, unless he likes to flirt with you.
Toughest professor I have ever had. Takes no late work under any circumstances. have to learn and self teach from your book. Grades are tough 2 open ended lab exams, 2 lecture exams. Overall he acts like his class is the only class to matter and barely uses class time to actually teach. shares too many personal opinions on non related things.
Be prepared to spend HOURS on HW & work hard for your grade. He gives 2 open ended lab exams as well as 3 MC lecture exams. He does try to make class interesting by going off into tangents and telling real life stories of his. If you like a challenge, then I recommend you taking his class, but if you just want an easy A, then I advise you don't.
Luyster writes the curriculum/exams so it won't matter who's your professor. Exams in this class were more difficult than any of my exams in gen chem 1/2 and even organic chem. LOTS of trick questions and trick multiple choice answers designed to make you fail. Bio 1 is the new "weed out" class. I hated this class more than my chemistry classes.
Professor is challenging but engaging. Lots of homework and exams, but worth it if you put in the effort. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep.
This professor loves biology and would remind us daily to have a passion for this pathway or you will not make it. The class somehow felt competitive. Read the book and take notes and you should be fine. It is easy to get overwhelmed in this class.
He's my favorite professor by far! If you actually want to learn something take his class, but if you just want an easy A DONT TAKE IT! He's a great teacher who will help you if you go to him and even check up on you if you miss a deadline if he knows you. He has harsh humor so he seems mean but he's actually a sweetheart that truly cars.
We all deserve respect and real education. Professor Lusyter continues to disrespect us, and his teaching fails to help us grow. This can't go on. We must act now. Let's unite and urgently call on Academic Affairs to replace him with someone competent, respectful, and committed to our success. We deserve better. Its time for a chage!!!
College is not supposed to be easy! You will work hard but also learn alot. If you dont want to learn go to an easy professor that just collects a paycheck.
He is a good guy. Class isn't a blow off class, just be prepared to lock in. Class started off with 24 ppl at the start of the semester, only 6 ppl left
He is very passionate about biology, we did have our differences but he is overall just a caring professor. He is a very stern and tough grader. Study study study study because the amount of information you have to memorize in this course hurts my brain lol. As long as you lock in fr and have this class as your main focus you'll do good.
