His methods are extremely clear. Attendance to his classes is highly suggested as his lectures are extremely informative for material needed for testing. He gives a lot of opportunity for earning points, including attendance and participation.
I think that he is not a good teacher at all he means well but he should not be teaching college courses at all he is bad
He is not a bad guy, he is extremely clear about what he has to say, and he writes alot on the board. He only tests on what he goes over in class. Excellent professor!!!

This guy has some strange mannerisms-- but once you get past that, he is a pretty straightforward teacher. He only tests you on what he talks about in class. Take notes and listen, and you shouldn't have any problem getting an A.
Take good notes and attend class and you should get an A. Classroom is run like an elementary class. Be on time for attendance or don't bother showing up, raise your hand to speak even if no one answers the few questions he asks. Not much dialogue just lecture.
I felt that the subject he teaches is so interesting, that he could have made class more interesting. Other than that. Very structured, very clear, tons of notes. Only tests you on what he says in class. I thought his dry sense of humor was hilarious. Pretty cool if you do what you're supposed to do. I would definitely take him again, easy A.
Wasn't clear enough on exactly what he wanted us to study. He was all over the place and seemed like he could care less. He would give a boring lecture for 2 1/2 hours and never assigned homework such as reading assignments. There were no handouts or any other supplemental materials! All that lecturing and only two exams!!! Also, he was biased.
this class is a joke. has horrible rules on attendance. very boring, talks for 2 and a half hours straight. gives bad notes. not interesting at all. talks in monotone and hes not funny. he needs to start a new career away from teaching.
Unbelievably boring! Stands in front of class for 2.5 hrs and lectures. Attempts to engage class after putting 5th grade rules in place that no one cares to answer his questions. Makes jokes that are not funny to anyone but himself. He doesn't deviate from the text leaving you with no knowledge you could not have learned on you own!
This guy is soooo boring. I was very interested in general psychology before I took him. He takes such bad notes and drones on and on for 2 and a half hours. Avoid him at all costs!
I felt he was a very good instructor. I wish all instructors were this straightforward. He tests totally on his lecture notes, no surprises. If you attend class and take notes, you should do well. Very fair.
This teacher sucks. He's very anal about people being on time, and people talking. The way he acts and carries himself is sort of he is obsesive compulsive about teaching.
He is a smart guy but he doesn't teach very well. What he teaches in 2.5 hours could probably be taught in half the time or less. He makes you raise your hand to speak. Only two people in the entire class got a score higher than a C on our first exam. I noticed he was somewhat biased about certain areas, too. I don't know if I'd take him again.
Every single class was simply him talking to a dead silent class. There was no communication between he and his students, ever in class. I didn't find him very clear on things he said, no assignments, just occasional tests, maybe 4? If you come to class a few minutes late, you get marked absent. He's a very nice guy, just dry.
This teacher was awful! i could not understand him at all. not to mention he was a little creepy. I would never recommend a student to take this guy. BEWARE!
BORING class. He is straightforward with what he lectures is on the test, However I studied hard thought I knew all the information and barely passed first test. I am getting A's in all my other classes so far but this ones looks like it wil be low.
I am an A Student, and put in 100% effort in all my classes.Took him for a summer course, missed 1 class that I told him in advance I'd miss. I spent the whole vaca studying + learned over 120 new vocab words.I got an 89.5 avg in the class and he would not round me up to an A. I was not happy. I did not think his teaching methods were great either
he was a terrible teacher, no help and gave absolutely no le-way.. DO NOT TAKE HIS TELECOURSE...absolutely horrible
I am amazed I pulled off an A in his tele class!!! I am a 4.0 stundent in the sciences and found THIS class to be THE HARDEST. Not because of the material but because the professor gives NO DIRECTION AT ALL!! Be prepared to MEMORIZE the ENTIRE TEXTBOOK in order to pull off a decent grade. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
I would NOT recommend this professor to anyone. For a psych class I would think that you (would or should)expect some type of interaction, but he gives absolutely ZERO. By far the biggest disappointment in Professors so far.
Took a summer course, which I do not recommend with this particular teacher at all. He doesn't feel like he is ever in your corner. Doesn't give you any idea what is going to be on a an exam, makes you study large amounts of info, then ask trivial/uselss questions. Doesn't like multiple choice either. Cl****room is almost militant.
Very very funny man. Everyone laughed all class long. He was awesome. :)
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR! He was very funny, and very easy to take notes during class. If you pay attention, his class is easy and fun. I already have my degree but take classes to become a nurse. I'm a straight A student, but got a B in this class. It was worth it though. He's very thorough and entertaining- but you have to pay attention!!
I was warned not to take this guy ....I should have listened. Bland, boring, Moronic sense of humor, completely anal retentive . YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. bring tape or a couple of toothpicks to class so you can hold your eyes open.
The best teacher I've ever had. Study the notes he gives in class and you'll be fine. He's always there to help, as long as you really want it.
THIS TEACHER IS AWFUL, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. HIS NOTES ARE GOOD BUT YOU CAN MEMORIZE EVERYTHING AND THEN HIS TESTS ARE CONFUSING. HE HAS NO PERSONALITY. ATTENDANCE IS A MUST. IF HE TEACHES ANY OTHER PSYCH CLASS I WILL DROP IT IF I SEE HIM IN THAT CLASS.
When I had him for general psych I had such a hard time because his tests were ridiculous. He didnt have any quizzes, just tests that sucked. I would never recommend him to anyone.
This professor is great. I have taken him for General & Develop. because he is great. You need to show up for class, pay attention and yes STUDY. He gives great notes, with lots of examples. If you don't get an A, it's your own fault. When taking the test, you remember things because of the hysterical examples he's given in class. U must study!
totally boring!! no personality what so ever, and his test's were crazy hard. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I took a TV course with him, big mistake! The exams are on at least 6 chapters and there are only 50 questions, very hard. (3 exams and two papers go towards your grade) so you need to do well! I would not recommend taking a TV course with him.
the worst teacher i have ever had. there were only 4 tests no home work no quizzes. took notes for 90 minutes thats it . never helped even if you asked, wants you to fail. stay away
Alright this is my second time taking him. and his teaching has not chnaged from the last class taken. The best thing about his class is that a book really isn't really required, all his exams is straight from in class notes, so attendance is mandatory, he is a serious but has his moments where he can crack you up.
The class may get a bit boring at times but oh well. He's a good teacher. He's pretty easy if you just take the notes. The best part is he writes the notes right on the board. A lot of teachers are just verbal. He writes down everything you need to know, just copy copy. You don't even need to look in a book. Fill in the blank is hard on the tests!
I took the telecourse and it is tough not unpassable but it is all what you put into it. Prof. M is a nice guy and is pretty average with his grading all my questions were answered with honest and timely answers I wish I had taken the in class version and spent more time reading the material I would have done better no fault but my own!
This guy is great and I definitely recommend him :)
Took this guy for Found. Psych. Research. Final grade is based on 210 points, 120 of which is from two tests, another 60 from a research project, and 20 from mandatory attendance. There was another 15 points included for another project. The dude's tests are trivial and nearly impossible to study for. gives no direction. Take someone more practical
No personality- class participation is discouraged, his teaching methods could cause you to fail. Stay away.
This teacher is not a good teacher. I am currently taking six classes this semester (spring '10) and i have 2 A's, 2 A-'s, 1 B+, and this guys class with a C+. I'm a good student I work hard but he gives you 127 pages of textbook material (test ch. 6-8) and only 25 questions. avoid him.
This teacher is not bad. You have to go to class and take notes. You do not need the book. I am taking my second class with him. Go to class, take the notes he writes on the board, remember the stupid example scenarios he gives you, and you will do fine!
Not a bad professor. He teaches with enthusiasm and keeps you interested. He is very strict though and the tests are pretty brutal. YOU MUST take lots of notes. However I did learn some interesting stuff in this class. I would recommend to PSYC majors BUT be prepared to have a LOT of work cut out for you.
He is very confusing and doesn't really want to be bothered by students doing something pesky like raising their hand.
horrible professor has no idea how to communicate with people. he's very weird and all of his hypothetical situations always involve little kids. i question this. don't take his class he's not very understanding to real life.
the worst teacher you can ever have. He doesn't even explain the material. He just comes in, teaches, and leaves. I would not recommend him. Take another professor.. a HOT RATING PROFESSOR.
All you need to do is study the notes! Remember his examples in class, because they are his short answer problems. He has a dry sense of humor. I have had him for gen psych and dev. psych. Loved his classes.
Study all the material from your notes, then study similar material from your textbook. After you feel like you've memorized the important information? Forget it all and memorize his anecdotes and the least important information possible. Would not recommend this professor to my enemies.
This guy was GREAT! I thought he was hysterical and I learned alot, besides.
Can't understand why people think he's difficult, but you do have to study. Just study notes; no need to read the book unless there's something you don't understand. He's humorous when teaching but not very personable otherwise. He expects you to behave like an adult, not a high school student.
Have to do lots of studying and hardly ever use the book. you are in control of you grade. your like your own teacher he just gives you the material to work with.
I have an A in every class yet can't pass his exams. He has no sense of humor. I wouldn't dare even get up to go to bathroom during his class.
Okay. I took him for 1010 and 1020 because he is a great teacher. The material is extremely easy to understand in class. He repeats all sentences 4 times. A couple days before the test - read through the notes and you WILL get an A on the test. Seriously. He's a great teacher! Part of going to college is reading. =P
He was a really difficult teacher. I took him back a couple of years ago and did horrible in his class. I got a D. I studied hard for each one of his tests, studied notes, the book, the cd, but couldnt figure out where he was getting his questions from. Took the class again with a different prof and got a B+
He is a good teacher, his classes are very interesting, he has a dry sense of humor which I think it made the class pretty fun. Quizzes are a little hard but overall I will recommend taking classes with him.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROFESSOR YOU WILL EVER MEET. MATERIAL IN RELATION TO THE TEST IS UNCLEAR AND GIVES A TEST ON EVERY THREE CHPS OR MORE MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. HIS NOTES ARE USELSS AS TO WHAT MATERIAL WILL BE ON THE TEST. SIMPLY YOUR EFFORT AT 100% WILL GIVE YOU AT THE MOST A HIGH D. WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY HIGHLY UNRECOMMENDED.
He is a great professor. He emphasizes exactly on what you need to know & he makes sure to explain the material with lots of examples. Barely any hw. Just rememember to study for the tests (also read the sections in the book discussed in class (he tells you this too). If you pay attention & put in the effort, it won't be very difficult for you! :)
I am taking his research methods class. He is a brilliant guy. Google him - you'll find he's presented at conferences around the world and published research. His personality is dry and he's doesn't feel the need to impress. If you study your notes and attend class you'll do great. He's old school - notes on the board with some discussion.
Very hard professor, would not recommend him. He is intelligent but has a very dry sense of humor. He makes it impossible to pass his class. There is a mid term and a final (very hard) and a 6 page research study paper due at the end of the semester and we need to present it. So there is only really 3 grades in that class. no extra credit is given.
He is easy. Study your notes you will pass. No need for your book
I at times liked this professor but other times did not at all. he writes notes on the board from start to finish in class and that is it. he goes rather quick with no time for questions. he also only gives 4 tests grades for the entire semester, no extra credit or retakes. not easy to get along with and not very welcoming for help. very dry.
I took him for developmental psych distance learning. All I can comment on is the tests, no classroom stuff. I found the tests difficult only because he focuses on the small things like terms and uses scenarios in his questions. The theories were mostly ignored. Judging by the test grades I saw the class average was around B- very few got an A
if you study just your notes you'll be golden
I took this class online. The only interaction with the professor is the 1st class, and the tests. There was no review for any of the tests. Essentially there was no direction at all. Has no personality at all when you do see him, not a hello not a hows is evryone doing not a word. If you take his class good luck!
This professor is rude and not very interested in teaching. His tests cover huge portions of the book, yet ask obscure, irrelevant questions (better memorize all the sidebar text!). If you have questions, he will brush you off. He also is terrible at communicating. Don't take a class with him!
awesome professor. definitely takes time to warm up to him, as he can be a little awkward at first, but he makes class and learning material effortless. teaches straight from the book, so you hardly need to read it. great guy.
didnt really like this class its just note taking and listening to him talk like charlie browns teacher. 3 test covering over 5 chapters or more at a time and 2 papers which one of them u have to present. i have studied my notes and read all the chapters and it still didnt help me with the test. wouldnt take the class over if i had to.
His tests are hard but he isn't a bad teacher overall.
Very hard class, tests are extremely difficult. Teacher is so boring, the entire class is taking notes.
Great professor. Only study your notes, not the book. He gives 4 tests and 2 papers. Again, study your notes and you should be fine. He's clear and he keeps it professional so don't expect to goof around in his class. It's strictly note taking and tests. If you hate reading don't take a psych class, no professor can spare you that.
Terrible teacher. Wasn't helpful at all. Gave 4 exams that consisted of multiple choice and short answers. He sometimes jumps from one section to another so it can be very confusing. I do not recommend this professor at all. He is extremely difficult. Keeps you the entire class time, you never get out early.
Very boring teacher to go with such an interesting subject. Not very clear on all things that will be on tests and no review tests. MAKE SURE YOU READ BOOK!!!
I'm taking psyc 2010 this fall 2014 semester & I have to say that he is an OK professor. The whole class (50mins) you will be taking notes & all the test are based solely on his notes, so it's important to go to class. There are 4 test and 2 written assignments NO HOMEWORK! Make sure u study & show him your flash cards for ex credit & u will pass!
Participating in class is not a big deal for him. He gives no homework. But test can be challenging, it requires studying hard. There is alot of information on the tests, and he does not give a study guide. He is a nice man and does reply to emails. He also gives good, memorable examples in his teaching and often repeats himself.
The only positive would be no homework. Spends the entire class lecturing in a monotone voice and is all over the place with his notes. Because there is not homework your grade is based only on the four tests all of which are extremely difficult. Nobody received higher than a B- and many people had to retake the course.
Took his distance learning -online course. Terrible idea! This Professor uses Launchpad which is fine, but when it comes time to take an exam (we had three), you have NO idea what's going to be on it. Even after studying for hours and going through the chapter summaries over and over, material presented on exams was nowhere in book or on Launchpad.
You have to work for it. It's college, so get used to it.
His class is pretty fair, make sure your their for every lecture. Miss a lecture, miss out on notes that will prepare you for the next coming test. No homework is the best part. Study for the test. Study his definitions and the images he draws on the board.
Professor uses launchpad, doesn't assign homework except the quizzes. Grade was based off three tests and a written assignment chance for extra credit. I felt lost studying for tests, not knowing what to actually study or expect. He gave us two dates to chose from for each test. During a test he was on cell phone I found disruptive to my testing.
This teacher speaks in the most monotone voice ever. He has very dry jokes.. He tries to make the fun class but it makes it worse. His way of teaching is very boring and yes its school so its not going to be a night out with friends but its absolutely horrible. You tune out so quickly. WOULD NOT recommend this teacher. hes absolutely DRY!
Had all A's I took him as a distance professor. He pulls his tests from random q's on launchpad and doesn't create them himself. Tests are on about 7 chapters each and they are on information you would not think to study. I asked him for a study guide and he told me to "create one myself as a form of studying". Worst class I have ever had
Copy everything on the board for notes, his tests are difficult. So many notes to study, skip a class and you won't pass. Very dry tone. Definitely don't advise taking a summer class with him, too much info cramped into 3 hrs 2x a week.
Very hard. no homwork, small extra credit amount and he just talks and it is easy to fall asleep and if you miss a class you miss alot of work and notes. 2 papers and 4 tests would not take again
Professor Macaruso, walks into classroom will taken a attendance then go straight to writing on the white bored exactly were you left off last class. So if you miss classes you better make friends with someone that will let you see there notes. If your looking for a teacher that gives a study guide or review for test he doesn't at all. Good luck.
Does not give out homework. Not everything that is necessary to know is written down. He is a hard grader, and tests count for a large portion of the grade. If you do badly on the tests expect to be taking this course again. There are two written assignments that he counts as extra credit. This professor and course are not good.
Attend class and study hard and you will pass
Alot of lectures and a little boring. Although the class flew by because there is ALOT of note taking during class. Two essays the whole semester (3 pages tops) and 4-5 tests (3 chapters per test, 20-30 questions) make sure you study!! SOOOO, dont skip class, take class notes, do the assignments + study and you're golden !! NO EXTRA CREDIT
Awful class overall. The professor has awful handwriting and gets offended if you ask him to clarify what he wrote. He will make a test for 4-5 chapters under 40 questions so even if you study a lot; you may study the wrong things. Not enough graded assignments and the test don't have enough questions to test you on the material.
Online class is basically completely self paced. He doesn't give study guides or anything, so you need to be able to figure out what in the book is relevant. I took notes for any vocabulary, statistics, and charts in the book, and then made flashcards from them, and got an A. After exam 2 there is a pretty long paper so don't let it sneak up on you
Professor has the worst handwritting, trying to figure out what he writes down is a hastle. Everything he writes on the board make sure u have it down due to he will pull bits & pieces for the test, if he writes graphs or pictures make sure u have that. He only grades on 4 things 3 tests,3 page essay & ur attendence. Not extra credit or study guide
This Professor is the worst Professor I have ever had. His notes contradict what's in the book. Gives you no homework at all, and grades your first half the semester off of one test. Doesn't like to be interrupted if you have a question. He is also unorganized, jumps around for chap-chap. Just awful! I would say run if you get him as a Professor!
Just no
DO NOT TAKE A DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR! He provided absolutely ZERO instruction. He just assigns six chapters and then you take a test on it. Get ready to memorize every single line from the text as his asks you random obsolete questions that have nothing to do with the main themes you are covering. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
I would not recommend Professor Macaruso to anyone!!! Very boring, bad handwriting and if you ask him what he spelled he ignores you. 90 percent fail his class. Oh and hes rude. Test are very hard and he wont give a study guide. If you ask him if something will be on the test he wont tell you. Study everything after every class.
All he does is lecture and write on the whiteboard, you get no sense of directions for tests you just have study your 8-10 pages of notes and hope you studied the right thing. He is also super awkward.
Nice guy, but hardest class ever. His tests NEVER matched up with the notes and things he would say in class. Almost impossible to pass. Zero extra credit, your grade is based off 4 tests and a few online homework assignments. Really disappointing bc I love psych and his tests ruined the class for me. 40% of the class failed. good luck
Not much instruction at all! I took during Summer session. We had to read the chapters (usually 6 or 7 of them at a time), watch all videos, take all online quizzes, and study for exam (given in person every 2 weeks). It was too much info. to learn at once, and I love psychology! No study guide either. Exams were multiple choice but terribly worded
I really liked professor macaruso because he was very straightforward. What he covers in class will be on the test. What he covered in class was a tiny bit off from the book but just go with what the book says and youll be fine. I honestly loved how easy he made it to pass but there is a lot of note taking ! Study and you will pass
If you want to pass his tests, go to every lecture, but take notes from the text book. Don't use his definitions, use the ones in the book. Read the entire chapters (he usually half-covers things), take notes on everything. Super nice+funny guy and i enjoyed his lectures, you just have to study everything. EVERYTHING.
Had to drop the class. Terrible instructing techniques.
Terrible professor. Worst class. Run!!! Does not test on notes. Random testing questions that don't match lessons. Complete laxk of personality. Does not like classroom participation. Online assignments are not matched with classroom lessons. Impossible to listen to his rambling. Grade ia bases on test. Good luck passing those
Professor Macaruso is easily the best, absolute best, about making sure you have the notes you need to do well in his class. You really need to pay attention and take down the things he says. He repeats thing you need to know for tests. His humor is amazing, though dry as heck, and if you get it it'll keep you entertained. I took multiple classes.
I do not recommend him to anyone. I had him for developmental psychology. People would ask certain questions he should know... his answer would be I do not know! What kind of teacher cant help answer questions. He gives 3 tests and 2 papers the whole semester. No homework, classowrk nothing. Also you buy the book for no reason yet he says you need
His lectures are all you need. He gives you all the information he wants you to know for tests. He's very funny, has a dry sense of humor. Nice man, definitely a solid choice. But, you can't skip class.
This was my second time taking General Psychology and was by far the worst. I took it to get a better grade and got all A's and B's on all assignments and still managed to somehow get a C+ for my final grade. He only posts 10 minute lectures a week which are little to no help, you basically teach yourself the entire course.
Never, and I mean NEVER, uses his own definitions on the tests. Why he even bothers to lecture is beyond me. I used HIS definitions on the test and still failed, miserably. I am not this kind of student and have never had a tougher time with a class. Absolutely do not recommend taking a class with this guy.
Overall, he is funny and dry. My #1 concern are the tests are legit a "slap in the face". They often don't match up with the notes. He will focus a lecture on one topic for 30 minutes, and then another topic briefly (4 minutes) and utilize the 4 minute topic all over the test. Hard to get ahold of and often states read the syllabus for questions
i have never been graded so harshly in any another class before no matter how much you study the notes from his lecture the tests just don't match up with the lectures. Your whole grade is based on test and one essay at the end of the semester and while he is a little funny the class is a huge snore fest all he does is lecture !!!
One word: Uninspiring. He's essentially reading off of a prompt and shows little interest in getting to know the students. There are 3 tests for the entire semester, and they are short - fewer than 20 questions. If you bomb one test, you'll need an act of God to help you pass the course. He's an old school academic through and through.
Professor Macaruso used Lauchpad for the general assignments which gave you a couple of weeks to finish them. You also have discussion board topics to answer in a 3-day period time. One written paper towards the end of the semester. You have 4 exams that are graded heavily. Overall, this class wasn't bad. Just pay attention to the material.
I was warned before taking him for developmental psych. I thought I'd be fine; I am disappointed with how I performed. His lectures were weirdly paced, and it was so hard to get good notes. I ended up taking notes from the textbook during his lectures. Gave 0 instruction for written paper, luckily I write well already. 4.0 semester ruined by his B
He relies on a script, lacks teaching passion, and fails to engage or explain. Enjoys student failures, and avoids helping or answering questions. Few tests with high weight, no extensions or extra credit given.
You cannot skip a single class if you want to do well in the class. Homework is more based on the textbook but the tests are completely based on the notes. There wasn't too much homework it usually wasn't too time consuming. Had a nice sense of humor and used lots of anecdotes to explain concepts. Overall an enjoyable class.
Take this class online. Easy A.
