curves tests and attendence is not mandoatory but you'll be reading the book and teaching yourself if you want to pass not the best teacher but not the worst.....get neyhart if you can
Maggard is very, very hard to understand. Liberal trips to the textbook are required if you wish to learn the material, as he is nigh incomprehensible with his explanations. Get Neyhart of Petrovich if you can.
He isn't awful. Despite what people say, he is actually pretty helpful, he is always available during office hours and he definitely works with you if you need it. He does go off on really random and confusing tangents but as long as you read the book you should be fine. I really didnt study that much and still got a B+, just dont be an idiot.
This professor uses a ton of material from the book in class, but on tests, he uses his notes from lectures. His tests and the final are ridiculously hard. I studied at least 30 hours for the final and i still didn't do well in the class.
Curves are your best friends in this class. If you pay attention, take notes, and read the text book you should be fine.
Really easy professor. Do the end of chapter questions before each test. If you can do them, you can do the test. Lectures are usually boring and unorganized. Occasionally he will do a cool experiment. Curves every test, and the final.
Hard to understand. He explains absolutely nothing. When you go to get help all he says is sit in the front row and go to SI sessions. He won't help further than that. TERRIBLE TEACHER DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
I already had a minor dislike for chemistry when I took his class but after I absolutely despise it! He barely explains things and when he does he is very hard to understand. You basically have to teach yourself using the book and his tests are ridiculous. I do not recommend taking him but he does curve nicely but only because everyone does badly!
Not the worst, but definitely not the best. Wouldn't recommend him to anyone especially if you didn't understand high school chemistry. If you do get him, read the book. I still haven't determined if going to class is worth it or not.
Dr. Maggard is very clear with his lectures and allows ample time to take notes on his slides. The tests are moderate and as long as you put in the time studying, you'll do fine. I definitely recommend using the book to supplement lectures because not everything is covered in class. Solid professor and I highly recommend him. He makes chem fun!
If you do the practice problems at the end of the book before each test you will do fine. The tests are all multiple choice and he always curves the grades and drops your lowest test grade at the end. No webassign homework either. I would recommend him
Dr. Maggard is wonderful. He was so excited about chemistry and did his best to pass that enthusiasm on to his students. He explains things very well.
The energy and enthusiasm of Dr. Maggard for teaching chemistry was great!! The demonstrations were the best part of the lectures.
This course is hard and time consuming. Maggard was great at explaining the material well, and he often gave entertaining demonstrations to help us learn the concepts. I feel like a learned a lot and that this course has helped me to retain it well. Overall I really enjoyed the course and I would highly recommend this instructor.
Dr Maggard really knows the material well and can teach it to students with ease. It instilled my own excitement in sold state chemistry.
Very helpful teacher. one of the hardest but most interesting classes at state.
Very helpful and answers lots of questions in class. Demos were great and helped make the chemistry topics interesting. Work the end of chapter problems and don't fall behind and you should be fine.
Great teacher!
The course was designed well to cover a lot of material. I really enjoyed the class and the in class demonstrations were very interesting and helpful to understand the concepts.
Nice professor. He makes sure everyone is following along and he interacts surprisingly very well with everyone in a class of a couple hundred.
I really like his teaching style. It is at a great pace, and it is easy to understand.
Paul has an in-class experiment at least every week which is always fun. He's a great teacher who made Chemistry make sense for me. His tests aren't easy but they definitely aren't as hard as other CH101 teachers. He's funny too.
Few tests, so you have to do well on them. Does not explain the material really good. Hard transition from high school to college.
He does usually keep class interesting with lots of problems and in class experiments. It's a great class if you are really into chemistry. Otherwise, he helps a lot during office hours to help you pass.
I think Maggard is a great professor for teaching a 100 level class. He could simplify the material and present it in a way that made it easy to understand. He also kept lectures light and could work through any problem thrown at him.
Great at explains chemistry so it made sense. Review sessions were extremely helpful.
Dr. Maggard is often confusing, rushes through topics and often responds to questions asked in class with a sarcastic tone. He has office hours, but a visit didn't really help, he just repeated what he said in class in the exact wording. Lots of exams. Weekly problem set for recitation and quizzes given with little warning.
The course was hard, but Maggard made it enjoyable. It was one of my only classes I looked forward to. He was so enthusiastic and it was passed on to his students.
Wouldn't say he teaches outstandingly, but was always understandable and helpful when you wanted. Fairly easy class, just make sure to come to class and make good notes. Other than that, I can recommend him.
He was really good at explaining the material in a way that we could understand.
His lectures were given orally, or hand written. As such, no lectures could be posted online, so if you miss a class you'd better have buddies to get the notes from. He didn't give any work, so the entirety of the grade came from the tests. If you struggle with scantrons like I do, you may not pass. I struggled with Maggard.
Maggards class was fun and informative. He also went above and beyond by holding extra exam review sessions at night, made appointments with students that could not make it to office hours, and gave weekly homework that helped very much on the tests. Would recommend!
Dr. Maggard did an amazing job teaching this class! He was always thoroughly prepared and almost always had a cool demonstration to show. The material was very easy to learn because he was able to organize a large amount of information and present it in a structured and easy to understand format.
He is good at explaining concepts and stopping enough to answer questions and to make sure everyone is understanding.
Maggad is a great overall professor for this course. He is always enthusiastic and available to help us succeed by answering questions during office hours and review sessions.
I really enjoy Professor Maggard. Chem 101 is never easy as it's a weed out class, but he makes it interesting. He is very lively and does a good amount of demonstrations. He is always willing to help and holds two hour review sessions before tests. His tests are pretty straight forward and he does not believe in trick questions. He loves teaching.
This class is difficult but definitely doable! Maggard is great, very nice and has an interesting sense of humor. He does an experiment at least once a week so those are fun! He also lets you out of class early a lot. The tests are very hard but if you study and go to S.I. sessions you can score pretty well! And most of them have a curve.
WARNING. CURVES THE TOP 10% of the CLASS. This means the 10% percent with the highest grades get curbed to get the average of the class over 75%. A very confusing instructor, who will get confused with his own examples. If you know nothing about chemistry , don't expect to learn it from him, just go by the textbook.
It's difficult material but Maggard is a great professor! Reading the textbook and working the end-of-chapter problems helps a lot. He is very good at explaining things in office hours and holds review sessions the night before the test where he goes over exams from previous years. This is extremely helpful! He is more than willing to help students
Not the most clear in lecture, but is very helpful in office hours or talking one-on-one after class. His tests are very hard, but straightforward. Take advantage of the practice tests, tutoring, SI sessions, etc. He offers a lot of great things to get you through it. If you put in the work outside of class, you'll be fine. Do not ever skip.
Chem 101 was very difficult for me, but I'm glad Maggard was my professor. In the 4 midterms and 1 final exam, the four curves were: +4, +8, +12, +16, & +11. You'll probably make some bad test grades, but at least they get curved a significant amount. Lectures aren't boring either, he does plenty of demonstrations.
Prof Maggard was great! If you did the homework and chapter problems and paid attention in class, and attended the review sessions, then it was a relatively easy A/B.
Good ol' Paul is such a great professor! He does really cool demos in class all the time. As long as you do his practice tests, you'll get an A on every test. AND he never gives homework!
Maggard was a great professor. His tests were difficult, but he did a good job explaining concepts in his lectures. He did many demonstrations to help us understand certain concepts
Professor Maggard has a passion for chemistry and really cares for his students. His options for helping students were very useful, such as his review sessions and feedback on our weekly problem sets. He is truly willing to help students.
EVERYBODY HOLD UP. My dude Paul is a GREAT professor. He know's what he's doing, he gives helpful lectures, and good tests. He lists relevant practice problems for every chapter out of the book, so if you aren't doing well, it's not because he hasn't alerted you of an avenue to change that. Also, his review sessions are a must, the best!
Great first Chem teacher, tests are very similar to suggested homework problems and recitation problems. Holds review sessions before tests that help a lot
He offers a lot of extra help in review sessions and office hours. Would definitely recommend.
Very difficult course. I was able to make it through with a lot of help that was given.
He's a great chem prof. He teaches almost everything from the textbook, and his tests are exactly like his previous ones (he even uses the same questions). You can skip class read the textbook and pass it easily.
For chemistry he is a great teacher. The notes give you what you need for the tests and he makes his lectures fun with experiments. He knows how to explain the concepts in a way that is understandable.
Do the problems in the back of the book he suggests for you to try and go to class and youll ace his class. Lectures aren't mandatory but recitations are and there is homework due for completion and sometimes quizzes. Go to all the reviews he gives practice exams just like the tests. If you put in the work you can definitely do well
Not the best professor, but not the worst. He's alright but I don't think I would recommend taking him.
Disclaimer: I took AP Chem in high school, so you may find this class harder than I did. Regardless, Prof. Maggard always made material easy to understand and was happy to answer questions from students in class. His tests always felt reasonable to me, and never had material that he didn't teach. Also, he drops your worst test, quiz, and 2 homework
Professor Maggard is a great professor, but if you haven't taken AP Chemistry, or you took high school chemistry before your junior year, you might find this course tough. Also, go to test review sessions. He will give you previous tests and work through them. Practice tests seem easier than the actual tests, in my opinion.
Professor Maggard is by far the best CH101 instructor that I have so far come into contact with. I didn't learn any chemistry in high school, but with Maggard I was teaching all of my suitemates chem throughout the year. Maggard never left us behind and cares if you understand the material. Lots of hands on experiments & models. Barely any homework
Maggard cares about his students and wants you to perform well. Though he invites questions, his lectures never made sense to me or my friends, so we stopped going to class and studied the textbook instead. The tests are challenging. The class was very fast-paced and I could not keep up as a student with no background in chemistry.
Paul is by far the best teacher I had this semester. This man is funny and my personal fav. Go to the optional review sessions he holds and you'll pass the class. This man curved the final just enough for me to get an A- so he is beyond clutch. His tests are a lot like book problems and the previous tests he gives out.
Maggard was a great instructor for me. He used great analogies that were also funny. You definitely have to practice the homework problems to do well on his exams.
Paul Maggard is no doubt the best chemistry professor in NC State. He is easily accessible after class and is ready to help anytime.
He is one of the BEST professors at NC State. He will kind of be fast paced in his lectures, but his problem sets are helpful. He gives you a full in the problem set (hw) if you attempt it in the first place. He reviews previous tests and similar pattern is observed in his tests. Super funny with cool chem experiments. Definitely a great guy for CH
Best Chem teacher ever
He explains everything very clearly and is good at taking questions during lecture. Gives you 4 previous exams as practice tests for each exam and they very, very similar. The 2-hour review session is where you would get the last 2/4 practice exams, and it's very helpful! Be sure to use the book and take notes before lecture and it'll be a breeze.
Paul is the man. He is truly a chemistry wizard and comes to class prepared to share his knowledge everyday. Just do the practice test and practice problems he gives you and go to lectures and you will succeed!!!
Read the textbook and do the assigned practice problems and you can do well. Chemistry is hard but you at least will understand it better during the classes.
Best chemistry professor at State
Currently (Fall 2017) the best Chemistry 101 Professor at NCSU. His grading is actually more lenient than other professors while still retaining the challenge of a 'weed out' class. As long as you study outside of class, go to some SI sessions, and attend review sessions, you should succeed.
I loved having him as my CH101 teacher! This was my favorite class this semester. It's not easy (It's still CH101) but he lectures really well. There are lots of fun demos and he even dressed up on Halloween and wore a Christmas sweater for the final. LIFESAVER: Gives practice exams from past years!! BAD: Uses "none of the above" as an answer
Maggard is one of the best CH 101 professors you could get. He gives you practice tests before your real tests that are very similar. Actually cares if you learn the material and good at explaining difficult material. Breaks up parts of class with demonstrations to keep students interested. Tests are curved and have problems he worked on in class.
Dr. Maggard is actually a great professor. As someone who did not take AP chem and had taken Chem in my junior year of high school, I struggled but I made out with a B. He's definitely fair and he's definitely there to help if you seek it.
Paul Maggard is one of the best (if not the best) chemistry professors at NC State. Attend his lectures, take notes and study a bit every night and you'll be set. He actually cares about the grades his students make. He has review sessions before every exam and lets you take old practice ones. If you are worried about chemistry, don't be.
Fantastic teacher. Great at teaching, does lots of experiments with cool explosions and stuff, he's funny. The textbook is VERY helpful, which is rare. The SI study sessions which are offered were helpful and Maggard also had a study session that he leads the day before every exam. Great teacher.
Dr. Maggard was a great professor for CH101. I really enjoyed his class. He kept his lectures interesting and he curved the tests. It easy for me to get the grade I needed in this class. I highly recommend taking CH101 with him.
He is very practical about his lessons and lectures are usually practice problems you would see on the test rather than theory. Pretty fun guy and lots of demos. But beware the multiple choice tests with "none of the above" as an option on every question.
Taking any Chemistry class with some background would probably make things easier. That said, I came to this class with no background and Dr. Maggard has made Chemistry understandable. He frequently does demonstrations in class and makes hard concepts easier. I would 100% recommend taking Chemistry with Dr. Maggard if you get the chance.
Maggard is a great professor, he curves the tests and drops the lowest test grade. His lectures can be interesting but he doesn't take attendance so they aren't mandatory.
Best decision ever that I took Chem with him. Drops the lowest test grade and curves your test. Gives you practice test which is exactly the same as the test. Holds review session before mids where he goes over anything you ask him. Lectures aren't boring and teaches everything you need to know. Did bad on one of his test but that was my fault!
Chem isn't my strong suit, but Maggard didn't make it harder than it had to be. Straightforward lectures, has review sessions before exams, curves every test, and replaces lowest exam grade with the average of your others. Not an easy A, but definitely the best option of the chem professors at State.
Superb teacher. He's awesome at explaining things, takes questions in class, funny, and has plenty of office hours if you need help. (Also has great, explosive demonstrations). I'd highly recommend him. Attendance is non-mandatory, but no electronics in class if you come.
Professor Maggard was awesome! His lectures are interesting, he has cool demonstrations, and he is always willing to answer questions. Before every test, he holds review sessions and gives out a practice exam to study with. Every test is curved, and your lowest test score is dropped. This class is hard, but you'll do well if you put in the effort.
Maggard is the best CH101 professor at NCSU. I haven't taken chem since sophomore year in high school and he takes time to refresh your knowledge at the beginning of the course. Make sure you go to recitation, its very helpful and gives your grade a good boost when finals come around.
Really awesome professor! He expects you to read the textbook before coming to class, but he goes over everything in class and is always open to whatever questions you have about the material. He also has a review session before each exam and lets you practice with old exams. Funny and helpful, would definitely recommend him
Just a great professor all around. Tests are similar to practice tests, and are very fair. Lectures are straightforward, pretty easy to understand, he occasionally has cool demonstrations in class (thermite, etc) and his dry wit makes the class more enjoyable. Try as hard as you can to get Dr. Maggard if you take CH101.
He is a teacher easy to pass as long as you go through all the practice exam and homework. Not much homework, just one page of questions per week. Attendance is not mandatory for lecture, but for recitation. If you are taking this course for credit, he would be the best choice.
Maggard is a nice guy no doubt. But coming to NCSU as a who is required to take chem, this was by far the hardest class I've taken to date. The last chemistry class I took was Honors Chem in 10th grade, and I am close to failing the class. He assigns practice problems and expects you to read the book, but his lectures go by too fast. Hard material.
Had to take 101 as its required for engg. Maggard is a good prof, but he lectures too fast. Be ready to read the entire textbook and do every single practice problem he gives. He gives out 3-4 practice tests the night before the exam leaving you no time to complete them all if you have full classes the next day. Overall, ok prof if you had APchem
nice guy, hard class.
Solid professor, one of the better ones at State and is always willing to work with you at office hours. Tests are difficult if you haven't taken a chem class recently, and take up a large majority of your grade.
Great Professor for a fairly difficult class. As long as you pay attention and put in the work its not too bad. Prof. Maggard assigns very little mandatory homework and no webassign which gives you less to worry about but also can make it harder to learn the material.
Maggard is a nice person but I wouldn't take his class ever again. He doesn't lecture in a traditional way and his lecture notes are messy problems on the chalkboard and on the projector which are both very disorganized. He gives practice tests though, as long as you read the entire textbook and do the practice problems he assigns you might pass.
Excellent Prof. Clear explanations and always willing to help outside of class.
One of the better chem professors. Although lectures are not mandatory it was helpful in learning the material since the textbook can be dense. Do the practice problems and practice tests and you'll be fine.
Dr. Maggard was a great Chemistry Professor to have, as he knew what he was doing. He goes over one practice test in class and one-two more outside of class, which is nice since his tests are very similar in formatting (they are also multiple choice). However, I felt that my notes were not sufficient, and reading the online text-book helped out.
Dr. Maggard is a decent choice for CH101. CH101 is a very difficult course. I personally did not enjoy his style of teaching which consisted of quickly showing handwritten notes and quickly working out problems on the chalkboard. He is generous by giving 2-3 previous years' exams for each test. He is a very knowledgable man but just goes too fast.
An overall good professor. I personally find him very funny, but that may just be me. He is lecture heavy but that does not really bother me. Even with such a big class he will still work problems for individual students to understand.
Maggard was an excellent professor for CH101 and was very thorough with his lectures. He always prompted the class about questions and provided real-life/experimental examples to match with his teaching. His tests are not too difficult, are all multiple choice, and he provides the class with 2-3 practice tests to get a feel for the actual test.
Usually chem classes aren't very interesting for me, but Dr. Maggard's dry wit and personal interest in the subject made the class a joy to attend. He also made sure the material was clearly communicated. My only complaint is that he goes a little fast at times, but is always willing to meet for office hours or right after class to go over stuff.
Dr. Maggard was an awesome professor, even in the online format. He explains things very well and will thoroughly answer any questions you have. There wasn't much homework either.
Maggard is decent but not great in online format. He does not always teach the material on the test and tends to jump all over the place in notes. He spends much less time explaining the topic than he spends doing repetitive examples.
Absolutely doesnt care about this class. Be warned if you are thinking about taking chem: his online transition is one of the worse ive seen. Test averages in the 60s and 70s the whole semester, while other classes are in the 80s with the same test.
Professor Maggard is one of my favorite professors this semester. He is a very kind person and cares about his students and their success. His lectures are very clear and he is open to answering questions students may have. I am glad I took chemistry 101 with him. He does not try and trick students on the exams. I definitely recommend.
Doesn't teach all of the materials on the tests and the averages are always extremely low. I don't like his style of notes, he tends to just assume some things are given without actually teaching them.
There were a lot of students that complained about his class this semester, but I had a pretty solid experience with him. He's very professional and willing to answer questions during class. He also listens to his students and adapts the classes to fir their learning styles. I'm not planning on taking more chem classes, but he's not bad at all.
Professor Maggard is awful at teaching online. Grades are only exams, and he teaches as if we already know the information. Says he will answer questions but then doesn't. Go to review sessions, as they are questions similar to the exams. I'm sure he's a good professor in person, but online he does not help.
our class did bad on the first few tests, he told us that we needed to study more, take more notes and basically said that we should've tried harder. His tests varies difficulty which was annoying and your final grade in the class is literally based on the tests but he let us drop the lowest test grade + replace it with the average of the other 3
Doesn't know how to teach online. He does simplify the material but his test averages were very low and then blamed his students and told us to try harder. Tests vary consistency. he's kind man sometimes. He may be better in person but online is not the best choice.
Sweet guy. You can tell he loves chemistry and wants his students to do well. His tests are made of examples he uses in class, and practice problems from the textbook.
If you show up to his lectures, do his practice problems, and go to his review sessions* (hint;) you will do great!! There is also SI sessions, extra cred, curves, textbook problems, and practice tests. He also drops your lowest test grade and skips a chapter. Maggard is the fairest prof I've had. Can't go wrong with him.
Dr. Maggard gives his students everything to do well in his class. He knows his stuff very well and really wants his students to do well. Take notes, rework lecture problems, read the textbook prior to class, and do the textbook problems and you will have no problem. He even provides a practice test and drops your lowest test grade.
Dr. Maggard is a great prof! I think he wasn't the best choice for online though, so unless you are ready to really put in the work and have a pretty good understanding of chem, I would take it with someone else. He gave us practice exams and 2 hr review sessions before each exam and was really helpful when answering questions. He drops an exam too
Dr Maggard was super nice and gave lots of opportunities to succeed. The material was extremely difficult and hard to learn on lectures alone. I relied on the textbook, youtube, and other students most of the time. I think this class would be much better in person. However, grades are curved, practice exams are given, and he offers extra credit
Maggard was always available to ask questions and gave every chance to succeed though problem sets, office hours, and extra review sessions for every exam. He went above and beyond was one of my favorite profs this semester!
Sometimes he goes a bit quickly without realizing it, but he is very clear in the way he explains concepts. He made what I thought was a course I would not enjoy into a one of my favorites.
I got a B+ in the class but definitely the most stressful class Ive ever taken. He can be super flakey and inconsistent with material. Dont expect to have any practice that reflects the exams. I would highly recommend not taking him unless you already are familiar with chemistry. In my experience, he was also very condescending towards questions.
My last chemistry class was from sophomore year of highschool but Professor Maggard makes the material easy to understand! Curves all of the tests, lowest test grade is dropped, and has extra credit. Always happy to answer anyone's questions to clarify the material. You have to work hard for your grade but he makes it doable!
Dr. Maggard's lectures strongly reflect what will be on the tests, however, they can be pretty disorganized. He tends to jump around during lectures, so I constantly found myself having to go back through my notes and make sense of it myself. SI sessions are VERY helpful. Some people found the textbook helpful. Take advantage of office hours!!
Dr. Maggard was a decent professor; he moves quickly during lectures so take pictures of the slides if possible. Have a good understanding of the topic before each lecture by reading the textbook or try DR. PETROVICH @NCSU GEN CHEM ON YOUTUBE. He curves every exam and offers extra credit. Your grade is based off 4 exams, the final, and recitation!
Maggard gave both a recorded and a live lecture for each class. While I hardly ever interacted with my other online instructors, Maggard gave live online sessions and answered many of our questions every lecture. This made a big difference helped me learn the material much better!
Great instructor! He really knows what he is talking about and simplifies it very well for his students. He presents everything clearly which made the material easy to build on as we advanced. The class was straightforward and all the assigned work was fair.
This class was the most stressful class I have taken. You have quizzes once a week and you HAVE to read the textbook. In order to pass this class, you need to devote a lot of time to it. I did not like this class at all. Although I ended up with a B- in the class I learned nothing from it. Make sure to read the chapters before class!
Dr. Maggard was a great at explaining things and was very patient with the class. He seems to be a very understanding professor and did his best to adapt to the needs of students.
Dr. Maggard was a nice professor. It felt like he went too fast but also too slow at the same time during lecture. Gave generous curves on tests and gave extra credit during lectures. Don't really need to read the textbook if you attend and pay attention to lectures and review sessions.
Dr. Maggard is a great professor for CH101. He gives good lectures and does not slam students with HW. He is very kind as he is always looking out for the students best interest and ways to help. He also goes out of his way to hold study sessions, gives practice tests, and gives extra credit. The class material isn't easy but he makes it better.
He was pretty good throughout COVID online. He dropped our lowest test grade and replaced it with the average of our other tests, which I'm not sure if it was because of COVID or if it was a standard. Also offered extra credit opportunities during class. He was a good lecturer, and would probably be even better in person.
Professor Maggard has been my favorite professor at NC State so far. You have one assignment per week, graded on completion, and 3 midterms (the lowest is dropped). Maggard does a great job at explaining concepts and provides students with study groups, practice problems, and provides practice tests with answers and explanations before midterms.
He is hard to follow and it only makes sense if you already understand the topic.
Dr. Maggard is a very good lecturer, but the class is graded based on a combination of your recitation grade and 4 test grades. If you miss a lecture you have to ask someone for the notes or read the online textbook to fill yourself in. Overall, I learned a lot from him.
Dr. Maggard is by far one of the best professors I have had so far. His grading is very clear and doesn't give a ton of homework. Although, chemistry is generally a tough course he tried his best to keep it fun with in class experiments as well as providing many opportunities to ask questions. Genuinely a very good professor.
Dr. Maggard was very knowledgeable about the course content and receptive to questions. The textbook was free and provided on the course website. Test questions were similar to practice problems from the textbook. There was no WebAssign homework, only a weekly problem set to be turned in and graded for completion in recitation.
Dr.Maggard was a decent professor. His tests were extremely difficult compared to other professor's like Varner's. He does curve when the average is below a 73(he curved nearly every exam heavily because his exams were hard). I wouldn't take again because it was extremely stressful and difficult. Questions on exams are ones you have never heard of.
Not a terrible teacher, but the tests were way too hard in my opinion and often had material we had never elaborated on. Don't trust his "test reviews," there will still be questions on the test you will be stumped with. Take notes on EVERYTHING because he never posts his notes to Moodle, and make sure you read the textbook.
Dr. Maggard is great at teaching chemistry. He makes it clear and easy to understand. As long as you show up for the lectures and put in the work to understand the content you will do fine. Although your grade is primarily made up of test scores, he provides practice exams which clearly show what will be on the tests. I would take this class again!
Dr. Maggard was a good professor. He keeps class interesting, considering it is a lecture of 200+ people. Tests are similar to practice tests given and are multiple choice, but all tests include "None of these" as an answer choice for most the problems. His HW is light, but recommends webassign as a supplement to his class.
Dr. Maggard was okay. Material is confusing but not terribly hard. Tests however were very difficult and the cover sheets don't contain much info. He holds review sessions but they were never much help. Your grade is based upon 4 exams, the final, and recitation which has 5 semi-pop quizzes. Overall not a terrible professor but also not the best.
Great prof for CH101. Really cares about his students. Read the textbook and do the practice problems and you should be fine.
Lecture attendance isn't mandatory but attendance at recitation will be counted in your grade. As long as you do good on the tests and occasional recitation quizzes throughout the semester, complete the weekly short problem sets, and attend classes regularly, you should have no problem scoring above a C in the class.
I found recitation pretty much useless but attendance was mandatory. Take notes on everything said in lecture. Tests were pretty hard. Definitely didn't love him assigning work on wellness days. He gives you all the materials needed to succeed, you have to work really really hard to get there. Go to SI Sessions!!
Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but if you want to understand the material go. If you did not understand some information, recitation you go over material that will be on the exams. Problem sets and quizzes in recitation help with overall material understanding. Great professor who cares about his students!
This course wasn't very difficult and Professor Maggard is good at explaining the different concepts, but wasn't very attentive to student needs. We had class during the hurricane, online lectures during mental health day, and an exam right after Thanksgiving break. Cancelled class the night before then rescheduled it to day before break.
Professor Maggard is a great professor for CH 101. There is very minimal homework, which is about one sheet in recitation a week. There are also about five quizzes in recitation, where it goes over the homework for that week and the lowest one is dropped. The class was easy if you attend lectures.
Pretty good professor! Didn't take attendance, but it was pretty much crucial that you showed up to each class and kept up with the content. Recitation is mostly required, with allowance for ~2 absences. 5 quizzes over the sem, and weekly problem sets. Loved that he didn't use WebAssign!
Best professor for CH101 hands down. Barely any homework, his practice tests are VERY similar to the actual tests, and he does an amazing job at explaining concepts. If you are taking CH101 as a freshmen, choose this man.
He was a very non-confrontational person; didn't feel very approachable. One of those professors whose class you just go through and get out. One thing I will say is, he sticks to what he teaches (no surprises) and the practice tests he gives were very similar to the exams.
Great professor who explained concepts to the point and without any fluff. Answered questions adequately and did a great job handling a large class size. He also really cares about students success.
