Oh i struggle with math!! This professor is sooo helpful and always makes time for you in his office. He is very encouraging and a great teacher!!
he is a GREAT teacher. if you pay attention and study you should do fine. his teaching techniques are awsome. if you don't understand something he always makes time to show it to you. and class usually always gets out early. i highly recomend that you take him for math.
Really great teacher! He never makes anyone feel dumb for asking questions and he really connects to the students. His work is realistic and he has an incredibly unstressful way of doing things. I highly recommend his class if you have difficulties with math. He is among one of the best teachers on campus.
Horrible professor. Speaks too slow, doesn't seem to know what he is doing. When solving problems he is very unclear, and struggles. A real scatter brain. Taking his class is a test of how well you can teach yourself, because you learn nothing from him. I recommend anyone but Manriques for Statistics and anything else. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!
Rambles on forever with no regard about if the class understands him or not. Boring. Unclear in explaining difficult concepts. Always attacked me for coming late. I hate this teacher. Take anyone else please!
He's a really nice guy, makes dumb jokes that he thinks are funny, but he sometimes glosses over things and doesnt always explain things all the way. I'm sure he's willing to take time to meet with students, but I never asked. Homework assigned but not collected, Quiz every Friday, practice tests given, comprehensive final.
Manriques is by far the worst Math teacher I have ever had in my life. Just horrible. Poor explanations on difficult concepts. Annoying voice. Hasn't got a clue what he is doing, and definitely doesn't have a clue how to teach a class. The worst Statistics teacher at Sac City by far. DO NOT take this awful professor.
I would not recommend this professor at all. If you DO decide to take one of his classes - poor explanations will be given, and questions will be ignored. He needs to learn not to have his back to the class for the entire session, and actually stop to see if the class is understanding what he is teaching. Good luck to his future students.
A very fair teacher. Will not tolerate tardiness, but I don't blame him because it is distracting and interupts the class. Grades you fairly, if you make a mistake and get the wrong answer, you'll still get partial credit/points. If you can do the practice tests then you should have not problem with the actual test.
I personally think he's one of the better professors teaching trig at SCC. Some problems on his exams are a bit challenging, but not impossible as long as you try and pay lots of attention in class. I'd really recommend him since he is pretty clear during his teaching process and his practice exams are VERY helpful. Definitely a great professor!
worst teacher iv ever had has no idea what hes doing he screws up when giving tests and quizes and wont realize this till after he grades them if you ask for help he will refuse if you dont understand he will insult you he is incapable of giving homework correctly if at all and he dosnt know how to give tests or notes correctly.
I dropped this 'professor's' class this summer, like a hot rock. The guy is a useless teacher, and cannot teach to save his life. DO NOT TAKE this class...you'll end up dropping because he cannot explain a problem to save his life!
the most unhelping teacher i ever had. RUNS over a huge bunch of examples instead of 1 complete and finished explanation.
Manriquez is a good teacher, I don't why people think he's not. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. He is a good teacher and explains his examples and students' questions step by step and clearly and I like the fact that he gives alot of examples to explain a topic. His test reviews are very helpful too. I recommend taking his class.
Is WORST teacher on the planet. (Trigonometry) He doesnt follow the book, will jump from different sections. Cant solve his own example problems. Unhelpful, doesnt care. Not trying to make a difference in young people lives. Just there for the pay check. I feel so robbed from taking his class. I had a whole page but was limited to just 350ct.
Good teacher, but sometimes confusing on tests.
Ugh. AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL professor!
scattered. has trouble explaining material to students who need more help or who don't understand -eventually gives up & leaves them, b/c he doesn't know what to do. hw assigned but not collected. do it only if you feel like you need to. he will try to help, but just isn't good at it. not a good professor, but not extremely terrible
This man is by far this worst teacher I have ever had in my life. In fact, you have to see how terrible this man is at teaching to believe it. WORST MATH TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! I would not recommend Paul Manriques for Statistics, or anything else.
he is a good man, really funny and easy going. Cracked jokes that had people laughing uncontrolably. good teacher but I though stats was easy. People who say he makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Sometimes he will joke with you about something when you ask a question, but that is meant to be relaxing. He isn't making fun of you.
To me, this professor is not a very good teacher. He goes too fast and all the problems he puts on the board for US to do, HE DOES THEM FOR US RIGHT AFTER HE WRITES THEM ON THERE! It's a little hard for me to keep up even though I am trying my best. I signed up for tutoring because I can't keep up with Professor Manriquez.
bad experience, he works extreemly fast and spends class explaining to himself how to do the problem rather than us,messy, talks through exams so u cant oncentrate,if u have a question, he will only further confuse you, doesnt collect homework, I would recomend learning from the book because unless you have a gift for math you will struggle.
From this class I can learn a lot more. The way he teach is easy to understand
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! He was all over the place and never really clarified when he was moving on from one topic to the next. Stats is difficult enough and a teacher that makes the material more abstract than it already is is no fun. Nice guy, but steer clear! Take SELLERS instead.
I dropped out of the useless "professor's" class for all the reasons stated by other posters...I took Sellers instead, and passed. Save yourself the energy and take Sellers or Phillips, not this loser. Thanks. :)
Funny, interesting, keeps the class moving smoothly. I'm not a math person but I enjoyed his class a lot.
Please heed the warnings of the other reviews. Wish I had. I have to agree he is all over the place, messy, scattered. The thing that sent me over the edge was he "never really clarified when he was moving on from one topic to the next". I don't care how funny or interesting if you can't teach then it is a waste of a student?s time.
I loved this professor! He was very helpful and understanding. I have taken math 120 for the last four semesters and this is the first time I really learned something. He makes it interesting.
Likes to put entire equations up then deconstruct them. I didn't much care for him but if you show up for class everyday and take good notes you should be fine.
I liked him, but not his class. He would "blaze on through" sections, leaving me (and others) confused, then dismiss the class 30-45 minutes early. He suggests the math lab, and you will probably need it. He does give sample exams, which do help quite a bit. The examples he shows are often hard because he will use big #s to explain a new concept.
People with a natural knack for math should be fine, but people like me who rely a lot on clear explanations and good teaching methods will find this class pretty difficult. I was putting a lot of effort into the class and got a B. He's not all bad, but I wouldn't recommend Manriquez personally.
Very difficult to follow, all over the board, not much help when I went to him in his office. Favors certain students I would recommend any other math teacher, youve had your warning. I love math and if you love it too take someone else.
I think Manriquez has been given a bad reputation. He does fly through sections pretty quickly, but it's understandable considering how much material has to be covered in four months. One thing I loathed at first was his test grading methods which seemed arbitrary and frequently changed. I later realized that not many other professors give credit f
The class was pretty easy. Just make sure to pay attention and take notes, because there's lots of quizzes and tests.
He is very easy to following, yet sometimes he goes through the sections really fast. Quiz every thursday and test every 3rd thursday. give study exams, and finals. If you study them you should be fine!
He is seriously the best teacher ive had. I love the fact he is constantly giving quizzes so we can see how we are doing in the class. He is super sweet and understanding. I was sooo scared taking a stats class but was so happy when i learned a lot and passed!! thank you mr. manriguez!!
Nice personallity. Extreamly unorganized in his lectures and doesn't clearly state what section he is talking about. He gives you quizes every thurs and tests every 3rd thurs. Yet doesn't give HW assignments prior to tests. HOW IS ANYONE SUPPOSED TO DO WELL?!?!
The semester is almost over and I have to say, this professor is terrific! He is clear on what's going to be on quizzes/exams, explains the contents well, he assigns homework but doesn't collect; it's there for your personal gain/lose, definitely one of the best professor I had so far.
I failed math 120 once before and got a B this time. I am horrible at math but I found Manriquez to be very fair and understanding, and a pretty good teacher. I recommend taking his class.
I am glad to say I took his course. He was very straight-forward with the material and gave sample tests for practice which were very similar to the real tests. He always kept the class interested, and used good examples to teach the material. If you attend regularly, and follow his instructions you will do well in his class.
Very unorganized.. he didn't bring anyone a syllabus on the first day. Some of the officially enrolled students had to sit on the floor for the whole 2 hours because he forgot to tell them that they're allowed to take a seat away from students who are on the wait list. Instructions are not very clear, and he teaches like an amateur.
the worst math teacher I've ever had... he does not properly teach the steps to solve each problem. It gets very annoying, especially since his exams are REALLY tough. He puts problems on the exams that are MUCH harder than what he tries to teach. If you're not a math nerd, then you will fail his class easily.
I don't understand why people dont like him i thought he was a good teacher. better than all the other teachers ive had!!
Really nice guy and he has a good sense of humor. However, his class can be difficult for someone who has never taken Geometry before. Even if you do the homeworks he assigns, his quizzes and tests are much harder then the ones you practiced. He gives extra credit problems but they are hard and only the A students get them right making them uselss.
He is hard to follow. It is easier to just take the notes and reteach yourself later, but if you don't have a passion for math, then it is best not to take him. He is not the best math teacher and certainly does not do a very good job of ensuring that his students understand. I don't recommend him. But Alex May I do for STAT300.
pretty straight forward class. Quiz every week and he always gives examples for the next quiz. Exams are so easy because there are sample exams (The actual exams are easier than the samples)
The lectures are not clear, he goes really fast through examples, but doesn't explain steps taken to get to answer. More like he's showing off his skills than instructing some times. Nice guy, but not the most helpful math teacher.
good teacher, he is fun and good
makes a dozen errors each week in lectures.. I constantly see students correcting him. VERY slow on updating homework assignments. The exams are so EXTREME, that you'll have to study 10-15hrs to get a good grade on them. He admits that he's the toughest math teacher on campus... No one in my class was able to finish his Final..
IF YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS HIS IS VERY HELPFUL. ASK HIM FOR SAMPLE PROBLEMS AND TELL HIM TO MAKE THEM REALLY HARD AND HE WILL DO THAT FOR YOU, AND HELP YOU THROUGH IT. YOU JUST HAVE GO TO HIS OFFICE. I THINK HE IS BETTER ONE ON ONE THEN IN THE CLASSROOM SO GO! IM TAKING HIM NOW FOR PRE CALC BECAUSE HE IS CHALLENGING AND HELPFUL =D
Gives tons of examples even though he makes mistakes while showing them. Exams are difficult but he's lenient. when grading.
nice guy. but really hard tests. and he makes up all the sample problems in his head and they come out with bad numbers. he also makes many mistakes and is constantly being corrected by students.
He is a really good teacher. Drops one test out of the 4 midterms but the final is cumulative. Gives weekly quizzes but is very clear about what sections to study and at the end drops at least1 or 2 quizzes. Sometimes also gives take home quizzes and/or exams. Had one project for this class, which was considered as one of the 4 exams for his class.
He good professor. I recommend taking him. Has 4 tests and one final and ends up dropping one exams and has about 10 quizzes and usually drops atleast 1 or 2 of them.
While his class is ridiculously easy for someone who has any understanding of math, his teaching is terrible. He often does problems wrong (every class he at least gets one question wrong). He'll TRY to help if you are confused, but it doesn't really work.
This guy should not be a teacher, he has no interpersonal skills to speak of, makes mistakes constantly in class, scribbles on the board & his handwriting is generally illegible anyway. I recommend taking this class from someone else.
Mr. Manriquez is a great instructor. He can be quick on the board at times but will readily spend extra time on the problems to make sure everyone understands it. Some classes have a lot of content that he HAS to cover so time may be limited but he readily offers office hours and is very good at explaining. Def worth waiting out for his classes
Horrible teacher. Refused to answer questions during class. I would ask something and he would literally just ignore me. It seems ridiculous to not be able to ask a question in a math class. Constantly made mistakes when working problems on the board. It was very confusing cause he kept changing his answers. He should NOT be a teacher.
WARNING: do not antagonize/argue with Manriquez. He was extremely rude to me when replying to my email, and he mistakenly gave me a 0 on my Final (which he later corrected). Avoid him like the plague!!!
Good professor. Has study guides for every exam that are helpful/cover basically everything on the test. Also, before each test the class goes over any questions, which is very helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions/go to office hours and you should be fine. I don't understand all the negative reviews, he's a good teacher!
What a confusing teacher! Goes a mile a minute and is so consearned with covering every chapter in the book that only covers the basics but puts complex problems on quizes and test. Yes there are a smal minority of students that will do well but the class average grade is 67% and final is cumulative no notes/graphing calculators alowed RUN AWAY!
he is upfront and approachable. nice and friendly. go to class and take good notes and you will do good!
WORST teacher EVER! When is this guy going to get fired? Worked problems in class and CONSTANTLY got them wrong and had to go back 2 or 3 times reworking the same problem until he got it right. Very unclear. What he tested us on was never what he went over in class. I love math but hated this class!
goes too fast during lectures. The questions you get on the quizzes will blow you from the back. Quiz questions are unlike the examples he shows in class and are even unlike homework problems.
He is a good teacher that when he explains how to do most problems, he is very clear about how to approach them. He takes a student's approach and shows how we should proceed with a problem. Con: if you don't know how to do every single problem there is, you won't do well in the class. Problems on tests and quizes are 10x harder than homework sets
he is a good person but a terrible math professor. he is super fast, he is not clear enough on his lectures, and is not helpful at all. some students were able to keep up with him, but i certaintly couldnt. i like my math clear, good paste, and rational.
class is too fast! I could not keep up nor drop it.
how can i put this nicely? the things that he puts on sample tests are completely different from that he put on the tests and quizzes.. he makes too many errors, and he is very unsure when he solves problems on the board. learn from the book, if you have to take this class, otherwise, earning an A or B from just the lectures is far from possible..
Manriquez is a great teacher. For math120-Do the homework and as long as you do 80% of it throughout the semester he gives you a 100%. He also gives sample tests that help out alot. Also, attendance helps your grade as well. However, his statistics class was not as easy. Study his notes and that will help with his quizes.Drop in for offics hours.
I don't know how is he for math 120 but for calculus he is just terrible. Took him because there were no options. The problems on the test are confusing and 10 times harder than he covers in class. No personal approach, indifferent to students. This is supposed to be "light calculus with applications."No applications, just plain math. So boring!
He is a solid professor. I agree that he messes up sometimes on his example problems on the board, but that didn't bother me as much as it did my classmates for some reason. Also, he came late to class for pretty much the whole semester but only by a few minutes. I wish the practice exams were more indicative of actual exam difficulty.
Good teacher overall. Very willing to help if you have questions. Can be a bit unorganized and hard to understand. Sample tests are harder than the actual tests but good for practice. Attending class is the best way to pass.
Attendance was seldom taken, lots of absences were allowed. If you already know calculus and are just taking this class for the credit, he is a good option. If you want to learn to do calculus, you may have better luck staying home and reading the textbook.
Manriques is THE WORST. He would start explaining an equation then skip to another to show similarities then skip back to the original without actually explaining what he was doing. I found myself raising my hand and resay things in layman's terms so the rest of the class could get it. When I got lost I went to his officehoursand he refused to help
READ THIS! Worst math teacher ever! His problems are so hard even the tutors couldn't help me. Im trying really hard not to drop the class but I might have to. PLEASE DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS AND SAVE YOURSELF THE WORRY AND CONFUSION AND FIND ANOTHER TEACHER. IT WILL BE THE BEST CHOICE YOU'VE EVER MADE.
I gave this guy the best review there is for the teacher's evaluation. After submitting the form, all of the stuff posted on here got even worse. Take him and you'll understand why some people think Calculus is so hard because of good math graduates that are not teacher material.
A lot of these reviews seem very dramatic. Manriquez is a solid teacher who is willing to help. The problems are definitely not too hard and he has a lighthearted teaching style.
Manriquez has his own teaching style, as does every other teacher. You have to really think about what each problem is asking you to find before you can really understand Manriquez's explanation. His explanations only make sense if you can picture the problem in your head. He may be tough but if you for sure read the book, his class is much easier.
Terrible. Does problems on the board and then gets them wrong. He's all over the place.
To pass this class the main things you have to do is read the book and do the pacing schedule homework. Doing the sample exams is important as well. He's really good at explaining the subject in an approachable way. The class isn't easy though, especially if it's not your best subject!
Just terrible.Exams are much harder than practice exams.Advise:keep up with the assigned homework. Take this class at your own risk.
His teaching is just hard to learn from. Exams are harder than the practice exams. If you miss the day of a quiz, its 'not his problem.'
Really nice but his teaching is really difficult to understand. I am a student who needs to learn step-by-step but he takes way too much short-cuts. But this is just my opinion and the way I learned. Different students have different reaction to professors. For me, I understood nothing in that clas.
hes a nice guy but he cant teach. he does mymathlab for ex cred. i suggest watching the mymathlab vids they really help. about 10 quizzes, 4 tests and final. i suggest taking someone else if u can.
Very smart teacher. He was clear in his lectures for the most part. You need to study outside of class, this applies to any math class. Always available to help even if it's outside of his office hours. Show up to class, pay attention, study, and you'll do well.
By far the worst teacher I have ever taken. No clarity and hardly any explanation. Its a must to study. He constantly jumps steps and is not on top of his lectures. Very unorganized, likes to do things super fast and makes you lose track of things easily. In my personal opinion he should not be teaching.
Prof Manriquez is funny and fair. Statistics is not an easy subject but if you pay attention in class and study you will pass the class with no problem. Attendance is not mandatory but missing a day is not recommended because you will miss A LOT. Homework is also not mandatory but it is a good way to practice/study. Basically just don't miss class.
Disorganized and is a tough grader.
He is basically a nice person. He really wants to help the student to achieve success in the class. He likes to joke around during the lecture. He is kind of fast in teaching the subject, but he doesn't mind to repeat the same subject if students don't understand the material. Overall, he is a good professor. I will definitely take him again.
Be ready to read and reread the textbook, or you'll never understand and fix his multitude of errors. Brutal grader, rushes through lectures and leaves early. Would not recommend.
Choose a professor that match your learning style. Manriquez is best for visual learners because he doesn't just write sentences on the board. Manriquez draws pictures and use visual aid to help you understand. Best lecture professor on campus. However, he is a hard and lazy grader. He doesn't want to check your calculations.
He is really cool and kind of funny. He's very smart and very helpful. He moves VERY quickly. I took a W and then got a worse teacher next semester. Stick with it he will work with you and do his best to answer questions. If you're not a math person take Camarena's Econ Statistics ECON 340 if it fits your major. You may understand things better.
All over the place. Teaches as if we already know the stuff. Kind of cocky and purposely tries to give you hard questions that are more like a puzzle for his entertainment. Tests are very different from hw. GO TO CLASS AND STUDY
Mr. Manriquez is kind and funny, but his class is extremely difficult. Jumps around from concept to concept, interrupts one problem to do another then skips between the two, and lectures VERY quickly, leaving out steps along the way. The assigned textbook is poorly written and I'm constantly seeking out online videos & other help.
Guy can't make perfect circles, c'mon! Other than that he's a pretty good math teacher. He takes a significant amount of point off quizzes and test for doing simple mistakes, such as forgetting to put a 'dx' at the end of your integrals or '+c'.
He sucks. He is everywhere with his teachings and always, ALWAYS goes off topic for the longest! He never lets his students finish asking a question without cutting them off and assuming what his answer is, is the correct answer. He makes MANY smart remarks on people who takes a step out of class for any personal reason.
Professor Manriquez seems like a pretty cool person and all, so I hate to say it but he's not a good teacher, at least not for Algebra. It's important to have a strong foundation in algebra before moving on to higher math and I don't feel like I got that being in his class.
YOU HAVE TO PUT iN YOUR OWN TIME. GO STUDY
He is a good teacher and a good person! Now, he will tell you to practice a certain subject and then test you on something else. What helped me was going to his office hours everyday. He's cool and funny. He WILL help you if you seek it. Make sure you get involved in the math lab and study and practice at home from day 1 and you should be ok.
He is a good teacher however when he gives lectures he jumps around a whole lot! But he is a very fair grader and he will help you when you need it! If you do the homework, study and show up to class you will pass! I would recommend him!
Mr. Manriguez is hands down the best math teacher. He's not the type to sit at his desk and watch you work. He actually utilizes the class time to teach! Homework is not mandatory but he will bribe you to get the mymathlab in return will replace tests scores with your overall hw %, only if it benefits you. Awesome guy with the flowy biebs hair.
No comments. Bad teacher in every aspect.
Would not recommend.. To anybody... Stay away even if you study 247!!!! Wasted one semester of my life, could of been in a higher math class by now for sure.
Be very careful when choosing this professor as your semester long instructor. He MIGHT be good if you are taking algebra etc but for higher math calculus or differential(higher mathematics)... He is horrible , unorganized and very tough grader. Many awkward poses when he gets stuck on a problem.. So.. GL
likes to get a chuckle with the students. hasnt been on schedule with syllabus all semester. his office hours are not convenient. expect that all subjects learned prior to this class to be covered, and reinforced quickly! do all homework and be confident with the material. lectures can be confusing, if formulas were initially taught differently.
Lectures are not very clear and test have surprises
Pretty good professor. Bases his lectures on the book, he bring the book to class and teaches the section he is suppose to teach that day. Fairly easy class just do the homework, take notes (use graph paper) and you'll do pretty good on the class. He does take forever to hand back graded HW, test are handed back in a week. There is hardly any quiz.
Stay focused in this class and try to get help from your peers. DO NOT BE LATE! The exams almost always has one or two extra credit questions but every question was worth big points. We had perhaps four quizzes in the semester, very helpful adding to grade.
Easy grader, messes up on quizzes giving unsolvable equations. Lectures are below average, basically copies down whatever the book has and talks to himself. Very laid back, however, that doesn't help students learn.
If you're like me and naturally better at everything except math, just don't take math in the summer. It moves too fast, this class was 6 weeks. I feel as though sometimes he ignored my questions I had in class. It's unprofessional, and not a good look infront of the other students. You're asking for help, clearly trying to do well and get ignored.
I've taken prof Manriquez twice, & dropped both times. He just went way too fast for me. & if you are like me, someone who struggles with math, then I do NOT recommend taking him. He assigns quite a bit of homework & isn't very lenient on grading.
He teaches really fast and a little bit disorganized. He literally flies through new material. It's of course easy for him but harder for people that don't understand new material right away. His exams were a little easier than the practice exams but I felt like I had to reteach myself a lot of the concepts just to pass with a C.
Take good lectures notes. Don't be late for lecture. Review lecture notes often Exams are very straight forward. Memorize rules and understand the algebra concepts. Homework is optional. Prof cares and will take time to help his students succeed in his math class. I liked his teaching style and I think he's awesome! Took him for Math 123 and 124.
I had An amazing time in Professor Manriquez's class. He goes over the content thoroughly and makes sure its understood. Of course attendance is mandatory, but I loved the class. He's also very pretty funny. I would definitely take his class again.
Pretty cool teacher. Willing to work with you if you're having a hard time understanding something. Helps to actually pay attention in class (and not on your phone browsing Facebook or playing Pokemon Go). Gives you a study guide to practice with. Pulls questions off that. Can use mymathlab grade to replace lowest exam score. Also pretty funny.
Lectured out of the book, sometimes got lost in the work and steps, but made things clear. Made up practice tests without solving through first so ended up with crazy impossible problems which was funny. Quizzes doable. Somewhat intimidating to question during lecture, but made lecture enjoyable. Really wanted us to pass and I appreciated that!
No matter what don't take any of his classes if you want to pass. Goes off track a lot and teaches too fast. Let's his class talk a lot and use their phones so you can get very easily distracted. Horrible, all I have to say.
He's helpful/thorough. Doesn't disparage people for asking questions. Lectures are an absolute must. Gives points for correct steps even if the answer's wrong. Lots of tests, but drops lowest quiz and replaces lowest exam with MyMathLab homework score (easy 100%). Get MML with access to the book - don't buy the text. A little scatterbrained.
Lots of extra credit opportunity. 8 total quizzes. Drop the 2 lowest quizzes. Doesnt grade hw, he just give full credit if you did them. He provide sample exam questions so you can review, but dont just go by the review, learn and understand the concepts. Exams can be hard, but put in the effort and you are sure to pass.
He is a good professor . If you have any questions dont be afraid to ask because hes easy to talk to. He'll try and make you laugh sometime sees the class is "acting like zombies".
This professor goes way to fast, briefing over the topics at an extremely fast pace. His quizzes and tests are extremely difficult, with absurdly hard and complicated questions that you aren't adequately prepared to do. His explanation are too simplified on the important points, providing little help with the harder questions in this class.
Prof Manriquez is honestly one of the better math profs at SCC, and Ive been through a lot of them. He is funny, caring, and offers cool extra credit opportunities. His homework is about what you expect, and the tests are challenging but relevant to what was studied in class. He is also helpful outside of class if you need more help.
Our class was stuck with him after the previous professor left due to a disability. Overall, Manriquez isnt TOO horrible. His lectures go a little fast so its hard to follow, especially if you have a hard time paying attention. Just do the homework and youll be fine not just in this class but basically in every math class.
He often comes off as callus while interacting with us in class, which is entertaining when you are not the target of his sass, though does deter one from asking questions. Once you get past the initial standoffishness, he is a fair grader though prepare for some extensive self study. AND DO THE HOMEWORK!!!
He is very understanding if you have personal things going on. He knows how to explain things which makes it very easy to learn the material.
I don't know how stupid are the students in city college. The reviews are totally unfair. Manriquez is slooooow! But he skips topics. I keep showing up late at classes, never got confused at a single concept, even if I missed the beginning of the class. for the last half,I didn't do the homework and still getting full credits including extra credit
The class is super easy and boring. Every class, Manriquez introduce the concept, and solve a bunch of problems. The problem of his teaching, is, super detailed when solving problems, so kinda slow, and not making enough conclusion of the techniques of problem solving that he used. Most students are still unable to solve difficult ones on their own
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are easy to follow and example are clear and understandable.
Professor M. has a really engaging and fun lecture style. If you come to class late, sleep in class, & generally just act childish and disrespectful he will probably make jokes at your expense, but if you take the class seriously & try your best he's really funny & helpful. Always available for office hours, great at answering ?s mid-lecture.
He is an easy grader but poor at processing any emails or grade postings, really ANY request you have he puts on the back burner until the end of the semester, oh wait, Im still waiting for updated grades as of now and school ended 10 days ago. Very frustrating not seeing current grades all semester because of his lack of motivation. He avoids.
Most of the time in college, you have to be your own teacher and show up to lecture for the quiz and class updates. This man lectures great and he provides techniques and resources for you to complete the course with a good grade. Math is hard overall, but I haven't seen a super hard "screw you" question on a quiz or exam. This man gets a 5/5.
Professor Manriquez was horrible. He knew what he was teaching but if you asked him to elaborate he would look at you and rudely say "what don't you get" and then move on. He did the bare minimum to teach, But he doesn't give out homework. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you do not show up, you will be lost.
Stats is hard for me. Manriquez explained the topics well, I think. But he has a bad habit of assuming students know more than they do. If you're not afraid to ask questions then you will be better off than if you don't. He doesn't assign homework which is nice so your grade is strictly based off of quiz and exam scores. He also uses the same jokes
I have always been good at math so this class was quite easy for me. He does an okay job at teaching the material but I would often times have to teach myself specific essential details. I can definitely see how this class is hard for other students. He expects that students already know what he is teaching.
If you study, you'll pass the class. The practice exams are similar to the actual exams, so do those! Homework is not required and final exam replaces lowest test score. Grade is mostly based on tests, so study! Honestly, its an easy class if you're willing to put in effort. Lectures are boring but his humor can make them fun!
For those who have trouble with Math, I recommend this teacher. Homework is not required. Quiz every week, but it's one question. He gives you an example question that will look exactly like the one in the quiz. For exams, he gives out practice exams. He makes most of the math problems simple. Although,go to his office hours if you still need help.
If you pay attention and do the homework you can get an A. Professor M is super open to questions and has regular office hours.
Professor Manriquez writes out his lectures on the board. Great lectures but if you miss a class you will miss out on a lot of information. Exams and Quiz are just like the study guide, no surprises. This class only gets easier as it goes. he gives tons of examples to make sure students understand how to solve the problems.
As a teacher, hes mediocre. Not very hard imo. Where he really suffers is his organization skills. He literally made a pacing schedule and NEVER stuck to it. He would always move quizzes last minute. He never communicated with students who couldn't make the optional zoom lectures. Its pretty hard to take this asynchronous class if you're working.
Hes a great professor. Although the class online and the beginning was tough to adjust, he taught the class very well. I would definitely recommend him.
Professor Manriquez is very hard to reach outside of class, disorganized, and if you miss out on an assignment because of a website issue, it 'isn't his problem'. He also does not answer questions people might have in class, leaving you more confused than when you asked the question.
A must take professor for stats. He keeps it stupid simple. Wants you to pass. Allows questions. 4 exams and a final. Covers similar exam questions. Recorded lectures. He didnt say hes a democrat but based on what he did say- didnt bother me one bit but it might some. I say put it aside bc hes the best math teacher Ive ever had, EVER.
He wont answer emails unless he decides to.
Taken all online, it was a little chaotic at times. Lots of quizzes and 4 exams + final. He is a fun guy but he often makes a lot of mistakes and is caught having to correct himself often. It's easy to get lost however it was nice that he recorded his zoom sessions and saved them to canvas for later. I turned to outside resources for the most part.
. We had quizzes every week but it wasnt so bad since he only quizzes us on what he teaches. Test and lectures are very similar so thats ok. I would recommend taking notes and write down your own notes alongside his (for ex: how you got that answer) because his lectures are fast and he expects u to know everything.
This is the first time I've ever had 100% on an EXAM or TEST!! the way he teaches the class is a bit boring but the examples he goes over is literally the same in the tests or exams but with different numbers of course but there are no trick questions everything is straightforward and he makes stats super easy
Hes a fun professor, I took him for STAT. He encourages class participation. Material presented during lecture is what youll find on the test. I would take him again.
The majority of the course grade was based on reasonably difficult exams and quizzes. Although his pacing wasn't great, he would tweak the exams to make up for his timing. Multivariable calculus is a tough subject, but he made it bearable. Overall, Professor Manriquez was a fantastic professor and I always enjoyed going to his goofy lectures.
Take him for 402 and 420, 6-8 quizzes and 4 exams w/ 1 final. I think he has good lecture but I prefer to read book by myself. Quizzes are easy but exams and final are part difficult. Handwriting is trouble so I have to look at lecture record. Tip: do HW and copy examples in lecture that will be helpful. Not a bad choice
The tests are not like the homework or lectures and he does not really give helpful feedback.
Master craftsman at teaching you how to use the tools of advanced calculus. Forget the theory. Learn how to use the tools first with lots of worked examples. Great use of Geogebra 3D and Desmos to enhance the subject. The purpose of taking a class is to learn what you need in order to move on. That is exactly what he does.
he doesn't care about his students at all. He is extremely rude and critical. the class itself was good the lectures etc were OK. homework and quizzes were manageable and it wasn't an overload of work. he is not a friendly or approachable professor and he does not care about his students at all.
This summer class was asynchronous, but he had live lectures which you could choose to attend or watch back. Prof. Manriquez doesn't waste your time with theory unless he feels it's necessary; he prefers going into relevant examples (which is good). He's very funny and is easy to approach for questions. However, he wants you to show work his way.
All in all, pretty much taught myself the entirety of Calculus 3. He is hard to communicate with, and does not really have much patience/respect for his students. The online course is poorly set up, confusing and inconsistent. Overall a disappointing experience and did not feel like he cared, and was just doing the bare minimum to get paid.
STAY AWAY. This was the worst math class I have attended. Gives NO CREDIT if you don't use his methods, however his lectures are frequently bugged, hard to follow and often times just misleading for what is on the exam. Provides zero helpful resources for his exams which are challenging. Don't take this class if you want to succeed and learn.
Refuses to go over questions properly when requested by students. Will not grade you if you use other methods. Will make mistakes on his questions during lecture causing confusion. Will make snarky remarks to you if you ask questions. Lectures do the bare minimum. Doesn't answer emails. Does not really have much patience/respect for his students.
Do not take this professor asynchronously. He retaliated against students for not participating in lecture despite it being async. He would cut lectures short and not cover topics due to this. He would "accidentally" make zoom recordings unwatchable, or forget to record them. No homework for credit at all, so you have to be motivated.
I recommend taking another professor. Unfortunately, he has messy lectures (stumbles and makes many errors). Exams/quizzes make up your whole grade. docks a lot of points on exams for the smallest things w/ no explanation. Condescending attitude. Asynchronous class, but gets mad if you don't attend lecture?? Dean got involved. Violated syllabus...
Would not recommend this class asynchronously, mid semester the professor wanted to go hybrid. There is a lack of homework & a heavy use of geogebra. I think this course could have been more helpful if we had homework to buffer the quizzes and tests a bit as well as the lecture notes being posted.
Sp23 Hwks, discussions, quizzes & exams, felt hectic on top of studying. Lectures were well-instructed with many different examples that helped on quizzes & exams. Picky with the work process on all assignments but gives feedback. Became salty when people stopped showing up for the zooms even though it was optional. Annoying with lots of Geogebra.
Doesn't do a good job teaching material needed to learn. Always talking about politics and casino games in questions. Hardly knows answers to his own questions. Homework isn't easily accessible. Repeats questions multiple times and confuses everyone. Hard to follow lectures. Makes a lot of jokes he shouldn't be making.
awful
The class was a struggle, with messy lectures, unhelpful feedback, and a heavy reliance on Geogebra. However, Unstuck ai proved to be a valuable study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, a disappointing experience but the resources helped mitigate the challenges.
He was to the point in his lectures didn't drag anything out more then necessary. If you asked for help he would explain. Sense of humor and brought up politics a lot. I would take him again.
The teacher is so unorganized, sometimes he gives you work other time no work. He didn't give us any information for the pacing of the class. Half of his lecture is him making mistakes and in them he gives very easy examples while on the tests the questions he give are SUPER hard. Do not recommend
He takes forever to grade, horrible at communicating, barely responds to emails, cannot teach properly
If you already come with Calculus knowledge then it's best you take him or else DON'T. He takes forever to grade and doesn't respond at all!
Professor Marquez is very thorough with his lectures. He spends a good amount of time providing plenty of examples. He's witty and has a great sense of humor. My only criticism is that his exams are at times a bit tougher than the practice exams. Overall, great professor with a strong understanding of what he teaches.
His class is very difficult and his handwriting is also difficult to read. Practice exams are way easier than his actual exams. He also takes a while to grade anything, if you have anxiety his class will give you gray hairs. The information placed in the modules are incomplete. Attending his lectures are mandatory His class is = to darksouls
Doesn't actually teach, expects us to know calculus for biology, just gives quizzes, tests, exams, and an occasional hw, but never on a schedule, super hard to reach by email or any other means, super harsh grader
Attendance is mandatory, and the class is challenging. You need to both memorize and understand a lot. To get an A, be ready to work hard. Focus on the examples he gives in class—they make up most of the exam. There are a few extra credit opportunities that can really help your grade.
Easy class
Talks about politics A LOT had this class at 8 Am so it wasn't ideal. When grading doesn't show corrections to help you understand the math problem.Kind of un-approachable. Can sometimes be sarcastic.
Lots of the lectures were fairly disorganized. Goes over problems way too fast and then spends too much time on geogebra. Multiple group quizzes for easy points. Be prepared to teach yourself the concepts.
Expect to work 2-3 times as hard for an A in this class. The practice exams are not as hard as the actual exams. Exams will have 8-10 difficult questions, he gets off on finding the hardest problems. Tests have questions not in the homework. The most useful part of the lecture is finding out what will or wont be on the tests. Inconsistent grading.
