Funny instructor! If ever in the computer lab, you might hear him laughing from his office.
Great teacher has a good sense of humor reminds me of my uncle. Nice guy who will not only teach the class but will make it fun as well
Great teacher!
I did not like how it took him forever to give me my grade. THen he grades harsh. Have to work extreamly hard to get an A
No exams just papers. 40% of your grade is attendence, not to hard just a lot of group work.
pretty cool teacher, likes to make learning fun. can go off subject at times and go on little rants, but humor him and the class will go by fast and easy.
Great teacher, very humorous and easy going. The only grades are papers, which are easy after reading the text. He is very helpful and caring. I recommend him!
Great Professor, The class is mostly discussion over assigned reading and then an essay every other week. Overall a class that really makes you think.
I took him for History I & II. Until I took his classes, I had no interest in history whatsoever! His class was easy! When writing your essays just be sure to include what he writes on the board for that particular essay and use it! I always got "A's" on them. He made it interesting and is not concerned with you remembering dates. NO TESTS!!!

I do not reccommend him
Mr Martinez is an excellent instructor. He enjoys what he teaches. Course required a good deal of work but overall not too bad. I would take him again
Mr Matinez is by far my favorite professor period. He made history extreamly interesting and I found it very easy to learn from him. I took him in a hybrid course so there was a lot of work to complete but he made it so fun I never cared.
Took as online course. Very fair grading and assignments are thought provoking. Discussion board postings are interesting. Quizzes are short but can be difficult. Good teacher and has a good class structure for online learning.
Don't let these good comments fool you like they did me. I did not like this professor at all.
This online class requires alot of reading, homework and bulletin postings. He offers a good amount of extra credit and I don't think it was difficult as long as you read.
I took his online course. It's a lot of reading, but that's expected with any history and/or online course. He always provided useful feedback to assignments. Pretty easy grade.
this is the worst teacher i have ever taken. i wrote more papers in this class than in my english class. and his notes make no sense. he just writes words on the board and they don't even go together. DO NOT take this teacher!!!
I took him as an online class. There is a lot of reading but that is expected. There are essays that has to be turned in every week. If you do what is required and turn papers in on time then you will get a A. I followed it and got an A.
Easy class, show up and make a few comments to participate. He's a really nice guy, and graded our papers pretty leniently, I got an A on all of them. As long as you read the text, it's easy. I also liked that he only required 1 book, instead of 2 or 3, and we only had 1 assignment that required us to go find other info on the internet.
I took the summer online course and it is pretty basic. Alot of reading and writing to be done in this class (as expected for an online class)but overall a good history class.
Very cool dude. PERPENDICULAR!
Great Teacher. I took him for two online classes and each time I had a great experience. As long as you participate and read you will do alright. You will do a bit of work, but it will pay off in the end. I reccomend him to everyone.
this is the worst teacher i haev ever had. He writes random words on the borad as "notes" that mean nothing. He grades paper every hard. He plays favorites. When you ask him a wuestion he doesnt answer it. He doesnt make the assignments very clear on what wants.
Graded work hard. The assignments were not very clear. He is a nice guy though. You would just have to ask him exactly what he wants to see on the paper.
Took his internet class, and it first time I ever took a class online. There was A LOT of reading, but I think that's necessary considering it is a history course. Your grade depends on your postings and interaction with fellow classmates, keep up with assignments. It was a very interesting class, he really immerses you into the subject matter.
He's a nice guy, but the topics given aren't very clear on what he wants. You have to write a lot of papers and his notes aren't very clear.
Never take this guy in the summer if you want a life. Assigns essays every other day along with reading assignments, be prepared to read the whole textbook! Grades hard on the essays, and no extra credit. He does have a nice personality though...
I love history and school but this teacher makes it hard. with essays, he does not tell you his required format and expects you to read his mind. he also is a smart ass. makes the whole class feel dumb. also he quotes from the bible at least once per class. extremely unethical
do not recommend this teacher! he is not comprehensive at all! his notes on the board are not clear, he just writes random words...hard grader on essays.
I don't understand the negative comments? The notes he writes on the board are not the kind which you would take for a science class. The class is analytical and if you read and listen to what he says, you will do fine. Of course, he expects college level writing; you're in college! This professor is outstanding. I would take him again. A+
If you would like to maintain a good GPA don't take him. He grades his essays extrememly hard. I've been in all my english courses and passed with A+. This course I'm failing and it's one of my best. His notes don't help at all. Hes entertaining and a nice guy but horrible proff
This professor expects you to be a mind reader, he never tells you how he wants you to format essays, then gives you a failing grade on them. He writes random pointless words on the board and there is always homework. Also expects you to have the same opinions as him, if not, you get bad grades. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Mr. Martinez is a great teacher. He expects you to earn your grade. He's passionate about the topic he teaches which makes the class more interesting. He is a college level professor and challenges students to think critically, if he didn't he would be doing students a diservice. I would take him for History 1302 if he taught it also. GREAT JOB!
So I took his online class, and was deeply disappointed. His lesson plans are out of date-he uses passages from an old textbook, and the time lines were all for the spring semester, while I was taking a fall semester course. I ended up dropping the course, because it was impossible for me to keep up with a poorly structured course.
Very good teacher i took him twice and the class is super easy!!!
This proffesor is unorganized. He lost my first paper and made it seem like it was my fault. He doesnt know the quality of great writting so i dont think he understands alot of things. i spent 3 hours on a 2 to 3 page essay and he gave me a 65?! He doesnt explain the format or structure that he wants you to use. He is not a very good teacher.
This teacher is so horrible i had to write two ratings! Not organized you will fail. Just look at his ratings. Im trying to drop his class now. His class is a waste of time and money. I wouldnt take him if he was the last professor on earth. I dont even know how he became a teacher because he truely sucks. He should be in another business.Dont take
ahhh he grades SO HARD. its extremely difficult to please this professor. very boring class, assigns and essay every class, huge huge HUGE midterm projects. too much work for a history class. nice man, but wouldn't reccomend if you want to keep your GPA up.
This was the worst of my online professors so far. I received zero feedback on my papers or other work, just a grade. I challenged one grade and asked for feedback and he said that he must have given me someone else's grade! That was the only contact throughout the whole class. He grades very, very tough with no explanations.
Hes an okay teacher, he talks a lot and isn't really much help. He grades really hard and doesn't care much for effort but rather clarity. Dreadful class.
This teacher truely is just how the comments describe. if your a pretty girl you'll prolly get a B, everyone else is looking at a C or D. i thought i was alone on these thoughts until i saw these other 50+ bad comments about him. J. Arechiga is a GREAT history teacher to take. throw your history book at P. Martinez
Good professor. He loves teaching and you will learn a lot. However, it's almost impossible to make an 'A' in his class. He will help you when you need it. Basically the only homework is reading from the textbook and he'll go over the reading every class. 3 papers. I would recommend him if you don't care about your GPA.
This was an online course, so Text book was mandatory. He was very concise with what he expected and though there was a good amount of coursework it was fairly simply, if not time consuming (but hey, its higher education). This man loves to teach and is helpful. He sets his expectations up front and sticks to them. Great professor!!
I took this class on-campus since I really enjoyed his online course. It was even better on campus. He is thorough and makes you work for your grade, but if you put in the work you should be just fine! Overall I think he is an excellent professor.
He was very clear on what he wanted. Took his online course during the summer. It is alot of work. I have taken history class before but this one required ALOT of reading with the textbook. I guess a good thing is that he only required one book.
He is an awesome teacher. I took him for Summer 1, and I got an A. You must do all the assignments and participate. His final is easy the best part is you dont take tests you write essays. We watched movies and wrote a paper on them. I learned more in his class than any of my other classes, and didnt have to study, just read.
Very easy class just do the readings and assignments. After every reading he will lecture and pretty much tell you what to write your essay on. YOU NEED THE BOOKS. DO THE WORK. GET AN A. I would take him again very nice and helpful and always available to help with your papers :)
Oh my goshhh. So regret taking this teacher. He is so horrible, grades hard and also grades on grammer. He gives so much work. I foind myself doing 2 papers and 1 discussion every single week. Also he gave me a bad grade on my discussion board opinion. How can someones opinion be wrong??? Take Sara Emami shes an awesome professor!!!!
Took Hist 1301 blended course. Unless you want to spend hours reading the textbook, and writing at least one paper a week, along with a discussion board and replies about the same chapter... talk about beating a dead horse!! DONT TAKE HIM!!!
he's a great teacher! good sense of humor, doesn't get angry or yell. the papers you write aren't very hard but you will have to do the readings that he assigned for them. basically every day you get into groups and talk stuff over so it isn't difficult
A lot of essays, lots of them. He's a great teacher and make you look at history from a different perspective,If you take this class you will love the way history is told by actual witnesses and not by book authors
Mr. Martinez is a very nice teacher. His feedback on assignment are very good, although they're long; you will learn a lot from them. He does not give out test only CTA's and papers.
Make sure you have your book for this professor. He doesn't give out tests but he does give out a lot of medium sized paperscritical thinking analysis, which are based on what you read. His discussionslectures are long, but not to hard to understand.
If your not willing to try or pay attention then I would not recommend to take him. It was an hard A to get because I have no knowledge of history but I have gained so much from his lectures and the readings. Yes a lot of reading but its informative when writing essays. He's a great teacher and inspiring. He makes you look at history different.
If you like reading and writing then this is the professor for you! There was not one single test in this class. Everything was done by writing assignment. It is quite reading intensive, typically 2 chapters a week. Active participation in the discussions are a must for an A. EXTRA CREDIT!!! I learned a ton! I would take his class again!
This class is medium to hard difficulty. Don't take this class (US History 2) if you have stage fright because mid-term is a presentation project, but you only have to present once.
I personally enjoyed the way the class was taught. Same pattern as other history courses, expect to read and write a lot. Not that hard, but time consuming. I've been in harder classes. Overall, the professor is very ethusiastic about teaching the material and clears it up pretty easy.
This was great! I learned so much of the true history of the second half of American History. This class does such a great job at showing you all perspectives. The book is a must, you will not pass without it! You will read the entire book. There are dais and essays and assignments are from the book. Great class but be ready to work!
Informative lectures and a very helpful professor.
He likes history, he talk a lot in class. Get ready to write like 8 essay. He knows a lot about history. He is a good professor, but get ready to learn, and write.
Dr. Martinez was a good professor. He posts things that are due by 7 am and that was a little confusing for me, but he is helpful, informative, and takes late work. Yeah, and like every assignment is an essay, and he does read them.
Paul Martinez is a very though professor he grades very hard and in detail. Miss one assignment and you practically failed. Expect a lot of reading and hard reading as well. Homework is about the readings and discussions boards. Make sure to elaborate in yours DBs. And everything is due Tuesday before 7am.
Overall hes not a bad teacher, but the class is kinda boring. I personally didn't do a lot of the reading ( I only did it for essays) and still passed. He says its a hard class at the beginning , but it really isn't. He is really enthusiastic, so the class isn't that bad. Do expect quite a few essays, but grading is fair.
As others already point out, every thing due Tuesday- no exam, just lot of papers. Class is not hard if you like reading, writing, and critical thinking ( a lot). You must also spend time on discussion to succeed. Grading is tough but not reasonable. Since I took him on online, I can't said much about his personality, but you'll be fine.
He is a great teacher. It's a lot of reading and writing essays at least once or twice a week. I only read what the assignments were on and did well in the class. Participation and attendance is important in this class. Some days were very lecture heavy. No tests, just all written assignments. The professor is very professional and grades quickly.
Mr. Martinez is laid-back and has a great disposition. His class is ALL papers. If you don't like writing, don't sign-up. Overall, very informative and all-inclusive class. Class time is mostly group discussions. He gives you time to read in class also. The final and mid-term were a paper and powerpoint. Nothing too overwhelming. Cool guy!
Professor Martinez is a great professor to take online. Im taking his online class and everything you need to do is all straight forward and nothing is too hard to handle. Papers are every week but they are 2-3 pages. Grades well and gives you a week to complete assignments. Would take him again if he taught classes other than history!
Professor does give a lot to read and participation on DB are important and easy 100s. Essays due every week, which is not that bad with them being 2-3 pages long. Very lenient with work and works well if your late turning in. No final exam given, just a reflection on what you learned. Easy A.
Easy A. Post your DBs and others post to get easy 100s, the essays due each week are 2-3 pages long. He is willing to work with you if you turn in late work. No final given, you write a 2-3 page paper on reflection of the semester and what you have learned and gained. I enjoyed this class.
Super nice! Classes always have the same structure. Goes over the readings over class, but you'll have to do them on your own as well. Get ready for an essay basically every week.
Mr. Martinez was a good teacher. Those who didn't do well never read the textbook or listened to what he said during lectures. He does assign a decent amount of papers but they aren't too hard. He always discusses the chapters in class so the more you participate, the better you will learn. I don't like history very much but I enjoyed his class.
Lots of papers. His class is very very time consuming and super stressful. The readings were long but not only that- they were hard to interpret because a lot of it was written in older english. Made it hard to understand. After like 1hr readings, you write a paper on it. Not good if you're doing full time!
Took this class online. 1-2 essays per week that were 2-3 pages in length. Easy class but do the work. 4 discussion posts weekly, plus another on the weekends. Overall, he was a very nice professor.
I really liked Professor Martinez, He gave excellent feedback although he gave too much homework. we are in college to learn, aren't we? so learn!!!!!
Great professor but will make you work for it with the readings and essays. So I would take him if you have free time because it will be a challenge. Nice and cool, I liked him a lot.
This might be my favorite class I've taken so far. It was super challenging; literally the entire criteria was thinking critically through historical events. It's less of "here's what happened" and more "why do you think these things happened?" I really appreciated Professor Martinez's emphasis on critical thinking throughout the course.
Beware of taking this class if you don't like writing an essay weekly. I am a full-time student and this class is so overwhelming. You have to write an essay every week on a 12-page reading (at least) out of the book. On top of a discussion post. TOO MUCH WORK
Dr. Martinez was a professional and fair professor. Deadlines are strict, but he gives thoughtful feedback and utilized the textbook. Weekly workload summary: 20-ish page textbook reading, 1 essay, & 1 DB w/ 2 responses. EVERYTHING is based on the reading material. If you're up for a challenge & enjoy critical thinking, he's the professor for you.
Great professor for 1302, all we did was just discuss specific time periods of U.S History and read out of our textbooks. Explains the material very well. Attendance is Mandatory. Gives a 2-3 page essay almost every week, so be prepared for that.
Although, he does give out writing assignments every Tuesdays he gives great feedback on assignments, respectful, and helpful! I highly recommend him if you are required to take a US History course!
Not bad but MAN papers every week was a lot and there was so much reading. It's doable but sometimes I was just like ugh-
