Subject can be a bit boring at times, but his teaching is awesome. He's a bit crazy, but he acts the way he does in order to get his point across. Always do the study guides because they WILL BE the tests and quizzes.
Cool teacher and Easy class but its more fun watching a rotting log the to listen to his lecture
Awesome teacher! Really cool vocabulary! He uses a lot of big words- and acts a little silly- but if you stick to the study guides your sure to get an A, he grades on a CURVE!!!
I like this guy a lot. He gives you a study guide and if you follow it and attend class often you will do fine.(A or B) for sure. There are some extra credit question on the tests and they are almost exactly on the study guide. (80% or so). Take him!!
This was my favorite teacher at Moorpark. I took a 4 week summer school class, missed a week and still got an A. :) Some of the time I was bored, some of the time I was entertained, like most classes. I recommend him.
take this class.hes a great teacher
Mattson was very clear about what would be on exams, he would even tell you as he was lecturing. Always very helpful, those study guides got me an A. To those that think you get good grades for not showing up to class, school is not the place for you!
Mattson trys to make jokes, its cute at first but gets annoying. it takes him a whole period to answer a question by re-phrasing everything. always behind. tests are difficult because he words the questions weird. curves grades at end lots of As
bad ass teacher. The only teacher that teaches on his hands. 50+ and looking good!!
SO funny! Take him.
true he was always late.his tests were easy if u paid attention, no hw to speak of, and all you have to do was read. he'd answer any questions u have. he was funny and charismatic. its no wonder why many of his students return for another class.
i took his class in the summer---very easy--take notes --read the text and im sure you'll get an A
I absolutely loved Professor Mattson! I took his class over the summer and wanted to take another of his in the fall (even though I didn't really care about the subject, he's just such a great teacher). He's funny and smart, kind and fair. He's laid back
Very good, kept the class interesting with quirky sense of humor
One of the most intelligent professors around. Very patient with students who have learning disabilities. Runs a bit late but always gets out of class on time. He made anthropology interesting. Highly recommend this professor.
Cool guy, alright teacher. No homework, 2 tests, 2 quizes. Always late, gets off topic, but knows what hes taking about when he does talk about it. Good sense of humor, fairly easy just pay attention in class. Share the book with someone cause you barely use it.
Awesome teacher...very helpful and entertaining on a subject that could be terrible. Would definitly take him again!
Mattson is an AMAZING teacher. The only reason he was late with posting grades was because his mother was dying and he had to go out of state. No homework, just studying, and he gives you a thorough term list for tests. He cares so much about seeing his class succeed. Highly recommended!
I had Mattson for a lab, and think he's great. The class is about as easy and straightforward as he can make it. His jokes are indeed corny, but you just have to laugh at their stupidness, which is what he's going for I think. Great guy, very helpful and intelligent. The Labs do drag on though.
He was one of my favorite teachers. Tests are a breeze with no homework at all...
Wonderful professor that is easy to get along with. His class is extremely easy A, just so long as you take notes and come to class. No projects to worry about. I would recommend him to anyone. He is very comical, and keeps students awake and actively participating in class.
He is a very interesting person... but funny. He knows what he's talking about, however he tends to get off subject. The tests are hard, but if you try to keep up on the reading and the vocabulary it wont be too bad. I did not read or take notes and managed a C.
Paul is hilarious. Give the guy some credit. His quizzes are easy and if you pay attention, laugh at a few jokes, and participate then you will do well. I actually was nervous about this class and he told me i would do fine. I got an A.
He's a really cool and crazy guy. He knows his stuff really well and even though he goes off topic alot, you still learn a bunch, oh and his tests/quizs are super easy. easy A
Hot. Witty. Hot. Feelin' hot hot hot.
FRIGGIN AMAZING, one of the best classes ive ever had
he's great. while on subject boring. but while on tangants amusing. easy A jokes sometimes lame.. but remind me of my own lame jokes
Very nice guy. A good guy..very funny and entertaining but not a very good teacher. Good if you want a teacher who will be on your side and understanding but you wont learn much.
Mr. M was indeed a great professor. But people without a sence of humor will hate the class and probley dislike him as a person. He assigns little homework if any but you have to show for class and take notes. But the notes are actually FUN to take. Being in his class is my favorite college experence as of yet.
MR.Mattson is an AWESOME TEACHER!...His tests are everything he talked about in class...very straight forward cool teacher.. He also grades with a curve. No HW IN THE CLASS..JUST like 3 tests n thats it..hes really great.
My favorite teacher over my years on campus. You either get his humor or you don't. As long as you're awake and don't do anything rude (or he WILL embarrass you) "Uncle Paul's" classes are great. He makes the material interesting and fun. I only wish he taught more courses!
Great Professor. The academic quality of his presence and teaching is far above that of a 2 year school. Very helpful, cares about the students, excellent teaching style, and humorous to boot!
He is really cool and fun, and he lets the class go off on tangents, but it would be nice if he would lecture a little more, the class seems more geared towards movies and random thoughts of the class.
Very Easy and fair just pay attention in class and take good notes on reading assignment. Totally funny, it's like going to a comedy show instead of class. Totally recommend him, plus his whole Indiana Jones thing is cute.
He's funny, but he'll threaten to murder the class if they don't participate. So be sure to talk... a lot. Interesting class, you'll learn pretty easily.
The most intelligent professor/person I've ever met. "Uncle Paul" as he calls himself is an amazing teacher, you'll learn a lot, very entertaining.

Mattson is a really cool guy. You won't do good if you don't read the material, but if you do then you'll do fine. You can miss 10 classes and still get the points for attendence, but some test questions are on his lectures. So don't miss too many classes. He always talks about random stuff that isn't very relavent, but he's a cool guy.
Mattson's archaeology class was filled with irrelevant segues but there wasn't really enough to know to fill an entire introductory course anyway. the tests are super easy and they were curved (didn't make a difference). He knows his lectures are boring so he tries to add humor and he's actually a pretty funny guy.
Great teacher he makes the class fun and enjoyable. If you read the book, listen to his lectures and study its and easy A!
Absoultely awesome teacher, all you need to do is pay attention in class and attend 70% of the time. He is an amazing oral speaker and keeps you interested, even cracking jokes. His intelligence even makes him hot. His tests are so easy you would have to be an idiot to do poorly in his class. Despite the the class being easy, you still learn a lot!
HOTT!!! omg! he has this burce willis thing going on. talks about soo many random things..like the Amish..ALOT! hes a great teacher though....i would LOVE to take him again. makes the whole class fun. u dont really need to show up to class....just read the books and take some note and u will be fine. did i mention hes hott??
He is one of my favorite teachers at Moorpark so far. he makes the class very interesting. always telling jokes, rolling on the floor, anything to keep your attention. his test are easy and he grades them on a curve so passing his class isn't that hard. take this class if you want to get a good grade and have fun!
A great professor and a great guy, everything else has already been said.
Changed my entire outlook on life! Can't even express how great this guy is!
very easy teacher. just come to class dont study and you will pass
i definitely recommend this class...attendence is not mandatory but you earn points if you do attend, no homework, two midterms and one final. study guides are extremely helpful. plus he looks like bruce willis and sounds like dr cox from scrubs! veryy entertaining teacher. you wont be bored. TAKE HIM. easy A or B.
Good class filler. I got an A. Must study before test, dont really NEED the book. You should attend to get the 20 points of attendence. Kind of confusing weird man, but I can't complain.
yeah!
He is a wonderful teacher! He is one of the most knowledgeable men i have ever met. He is so interested in the subject he teaches and this makes him a very interesting person to listen to. He definitely deserves more respect than he is given. I highly recommend his class. He is a little different, but that?s what makes him interesting. HE IS GREAT!
He is a really nice guy but he has the driest sense of humor. Once you get used to it it's not that bad. Lectures are boring but he goes over all of the material on the tests. Grades are based off of 4 50 point tests, 1 10 point quiz and 20 attendance points. He curves all tests and final grades. Study for the tests and you'll get an A.
Easy A! or B! Yes Mr. Mattson can be known as 'crazy', but he's really not. He just likes to talk a lot and is in love with Anthro. Attendance isn't mandatory. He basically gives you 10 days to miss throughout the semester w/o penalty. You only need the textbook and his study guides and you'll do fine on the exams. There are 4 noncumulative exams.
OH god, where do i start? Mattson is very educated in ANTH, & just the world in general. I enjoyed every second of his class. He never misses a lecture..and tells the wildest stories..like about how he once lived in a cave for 3 months in Europe..His Nixon interpretation is pretty comical too! Most interesting insomniac I've ever met! TAKE him. =]
recommened ez B. really funny, nice. tests kinda hard- study, READ THE BOOK and ull be fine. think he should focus less on the book but its still a class worth taking. study guides a little vague-can leave u confused on what exactly u need to know. i wish he would cover everything on study guide in class so that u can feel better about taking exams
LOVE HIM!! I'm taking Religion, Magic & Witchcraft, he's amazing. So many interesting stories, as him anything & the guy can go on for an hour about it. Really intelligent guy. Test are easy if you pay attn. & get his humor. There are always EASY extra credit questions on exams too. Super engaging & lots of awesome discussions. Very cool class.
At first he seemed a little too eccentric to be a good teacher, but you soon get used to his dry humor and see that he just really loves his subject. Does a very good job of telling you what you need to know, and prepares you for the quizzes fantastically. I never purchased the book and I am easily getting an A+ in the class. Great teacher take him
Very funny. Likes to go on tangents of comedy, and to quote Monty Python. You may hear he does handstands, but he's at the age where it's starting to tire him, so please let him go on that topic.
Terrible teacher. Just rambled on and on about things that had nothing to do with the class. Would never take him again.
Mattson is very fun but be prepared to read the book. He is really vague with what he says is on the test and the only way i got an A was by reading the book. He does not try to trick you on test
If you didnt like this class, you were a stoner or a bro. Anyone who likes to hear about weird stuff, take this class.
If you guys think he is unclear, then you probably shouldn't be in college. I think he makes an extreme effort to explain things and dumb things down so everyone understands. I think a little too much in my opinion. His lectures are entertaining and his tests are straightforward. He goes over the study guides in class and grades on a curve.
About the time he was proposing his theory on cats being the next dominant predatory species on Earth, I was trying to figure out how the hell I had ended up in his class. Turned out I had a great time, learned a thing or two and got an easy A. Anybody just trying to fill a gen ed science should definitely take this class.
Extremely witty, entertaining, and clever. Attendance is not mandatory, however if you don't miss any classes and pay attention you'll never need your book, just small reviews of your notes. He motivated me to take college seriously as well as give me insight much farther than what his class requires. Best prof on campus in my opinion.
Enjoyable class. He is a very interesting person. Doesn't always make sense, but certainly entertaining. You can tell he loves his subject and he is very willing to go in depth on any topic. Not a hard class at all, but if you ask questions and really get interested, it is very enjoyable. No homework, always provides study guides.
Its true, no homework. No essays. 4 scan tron exams. 50 people in lecture and only two reviews - that says everything. He spends 75 min on one ppt slide. All he needs to do is actually teach and the class would be bearable, but he cant seem to do it. Too bad.
Interesting and funny teacher that goes off on totally random tangents, but in a good way. All you have to do to get an A is show up to class, take notes, and actually pay attention as the midterm and final are scantrons based on what was discussed in class. You can miss a couple classes and still be alright, but youll miss out on some laughs.
Loved Paul's way of teaching. Very clear cut.Breaks difficult subject matter down in to bite size pieces/makes it very easy to understand. Posts material we learn on the web. Only 3 50 question multi-choice tests(including final). Is very willing to offer help if needed. He is very funny!
Basically a free 'A' if you come to class. This guy is entertaining, easy, and pretty intelligent. As someone who had no interest whatsoever in the subject, I can say it was easily the lesser of the general ed evils. Definitely recommended.
excellent teacher. Funny and engaging. To get an A, you need to read the book. You could probably pass the class without it though. He pretty much goes over most of the test right before the test, so that obviously makes the tests much easier. I would highly recommend him.
He's an ok teacher. Gets way off topic though & doesn't start lectures 'til class is almost over. I just did the study guides and read the chapters on my own and never showed up to class. Very easy. But I felt like it was a waste of my time and I didn't learn much.
Great teacher hilarious and informative. You can see he knows and loves the subject and he makes it both interesting stimulating hilarious and yet still simple enough for everyone to get it. Show up to class and you will be fine.Besides his classes are fun so there's no reason not to.
Great teacher. Very engaging and tells great stories. I really enjoyed his class. Highly recommend him!!
Great teacher, made class interesting. Absolutely no HW, grades are based entirely off of 4 exam scores and 1 quiz (all of which are multiple choice). He posts study guides and power points online, and he also gives half the answers in the review immediately before the test. Class was fun, I wish he taught more subjects so I could take him again.
I absolutely love his lectures! Yes he does get off topic, however he does so in very interesting ways. He curves all exams, and will give you study guides before hand. He also hands out candy during class. He is a wonderful person and if you ever have any questions or any problems he will do anything he can to help you.
Overall easy class. No homework although id recommend looking over the book and through your notes before tests. Only 4 test and he curves the grade. Nice and funny professor but the lectures can get boring.
Tests are easy as long as you study the online study guides and read the chapters. Mattson tends to ramble, and I honestly didn't know what he was talking about half the time, but he was quirky and not afraid to make a fool of himself which was a nice change of pace! I definitely recommend taking his class!
This guy is great. He's hilarious, the coursework is pretty easy (for this class anyway) and he curves the grades to benefit everyone; the curves never hurt higher grades. He made the class interesting. Granted he was a bit difficult to understand at times but the textbook made everything clear. Highly recommended.
Funny, and interesting guy. Great teacher and always making jokes. Even if you're not interested in anthropology like I wasn't I recommend you take this class with this professor
This was by far the easiest class I have taken. Not only do you not have to actually attend class the tests are extremely easy. If you just skim the chapters you will get at least a "B". This is an easy 3 credit class.
Honestly the most hilarious teacher I've ever had in my education career. I looked forward to every lecture. Very easy class. Funny guy. Made a lot of jokes concerning Monty Python and the Holy Grail and such. Passed out candy every class. Do yourself a favor and take him.
very "punny" teacher. boring lectures but it's a boring subject. VERY basic high school info given, very easy, you can miss 14 days of the 34 and you still can get an A, 4 easy small tests, no HW, half of the lectures he gives are repeated from last class so it gets really boring. i got an A and never used the book.
Maybe Linguistics is just a boring subject but this class wasn't great. I feel bad being so critical because he's a really nice & he tries to be funny but the lectures were just really slow and long. The tests were super confusing and I had no idea what the questions were asking. He's a nice guy, maybe it was just the subject that I didn't like
He is confusing to follow so do the study guides and read the textbook and you're golden. He offers extra credit on every single test. His study guides are straight forward and come directly from the textbook. Take 3 hours the night before the test to do the study guide by finding the answers in the text, and you'll ace it no problem. VERY easy A.
Honest Opinion: His tests are hard and written in a unknown language or long paragraphs that take you forever to read haha but if you are up to that then take him. He does curve tests at the end. Gives powerpoint lectures. Textbook required! He is a delightful professor and makes anthropology fun. I enjoyed his class :)
Funny guy, fun class, attendance is not mandatory but he gives a lot of extra credit if you always attend. Grade is based only on 4 exams. Pretty easy class. Really nice professor. I enjoyed it! Recommend! You must read the textbook and e gives out a study guide before each exam.
Easy A. A little tedious and a unique lecture style, but effective at communicating information. Can be a scoche boring but gives you packets with everything you need to know for tests to get an A. 3 Tests, non cumulative, 1 quiz, attendance.
Honestly the most boring class I have ever taken at Moorpark. Going to class was so hard. I would force myself to sit there and bear through his lectures. He's nice and has a different type of sense of humor. Attendance is not mandatory but his tests are so confusing. You get no information from his lectures. Stricly from the book & outlines online
Super boring class. He has a very odd sense of humor and goes off on countless tangents. The only thing that saved this class is his study guides which are super specific, so if you study those, you're golden. Attendance is not necessary (although he sometimes shows videos which are then on the test) but if you do show you get extra credit.
Mattson's at his best when he's on a tangent. I took every class I could with him and I hope everyone interested in Anthro takes him at least once. He has so much knowledge he'd give Ken Jennings a run for his money. Because of the tangential lectures, he provides notes before the tests. The only class I wouldn't suggest taking is Linguistics.
Easy class, gives a wonderful sheet beforehand to study. Attendance isn't mandatory, I personally enjoyed his sense of humour, but others didn't. I found Mattson to be very helpful with my personal questions as well.
Do not get hung-up by Professor Mattson's lecture style, which allows for many humorous digressions. He provides a thorough study-sheet online, which also is the primary lecture material. This guy knows a lot about, well, everything!; listen to what he has to say, laugh a bit, and enjoy. Tests are easy, no essays are required.
Paul Mattson is the reason I changed my major to anthropology. Sure he has a different kind of humor but he is so extremely knowledgeable about his subject and is always willing to help. 4 easy tests, no homework or bookwork, lectures are very interesting. You dont NEED the book but it is helpful. Mattson's the man!
I took him for bio anthro and LOVED his class not so much his linguistics class. I think the subject is just very dense and hard to get into. He tries to keep lectures alive but it's tough. Not a hard class, the toughest part is trying to make the material interesting. 4 tests with study guides, no homework, 1 super easy quiz.
Very easy class, and a very nice professor. Sometimes he goes on tangents that are extremely difficult to follow, but he's really smart and his tests are easy. Attendance isn't mandatory and if you complete the study guides he puts online you'll do fine. Really nice guy :)
Mattson is wickedly smart; unfortunately it makes him very hard to understand. Linguistics is already a confusing subject and he made the class indecipherable. Most of the class was spent with him going off on completely unrelated tangents or giving us monologues from Shakespeare. He lectured on new material for over an hour on the day of our final
There are four, 50 question exams (3 regular, and the final) and a 10 question "quiz" the first 2 weeks in to see if you can handle his class. No hw or in-class assignments. 90% of the material from the exams come from the book. You only need to show up on movie days. Lectures are crazy and hard to follow as he goes off on tangents. STUDENT BEWARE!
Oh, Professor Mattson. Definitely one of the nicest, silliest professors, his classes are basically stand up comedy, tangents, and long monologues about socialism or monkeys or both. I was pretty excited to learn something that would be written on the syllabus and then I would never hear about it in class. But don't get me wrong, the class is easy
Mr. Mattson is very thought-provoking and interesting. He raises questions that get you thinking about society and culture and where we fit into that and how we can look at other cultures without being judgmental or offended. I think he's a delight, however he has a sophisticated vocabulary and he tends to digress extensively. Overall Great prof.
Mattson is an interesting character. Spends much of class going off on tangents ranging from somewhat to not-at-all related to the subject he's teaching. I did enjoy his humor but wish I had learned more. Only 4 tests the entire semester and attendance wasn't mandatory. I went weeks at a time not showing up to class and still managed a B.
I enjoyed the lectures by professor Mattson very much! I always wanted to go to class. Such a genuine professor that cares for his students. Makes lectures interesting. Would highly recommend and take again.
He is really funny if you're into his humor. His tests are easy as long as you follow along with discussions and read the chapters (which aren't long and are quite interesting.)
All you need is your textbook. Homework is to read. Tests are solely based on films watched and chapters read. Each test is about the sections you read before them, and nothing more. Final exam is on the last chapters you read not the entire course! You can tell Mattson loves Anthro. and I am already taking another class with him!
He's such a great teacher. He's really funny, and it's really passionate about anthropology. The documents are really interesting. Tests are really easy, you just need to look at the syllabus. He also reviews the test so if you just listen to him, you will get an A. Highly recommend.
Very easy class that anyone who wants an easy A in anthro should take. Lectures are incredibly dull, but attendance is not mandatory and the online study guide he provides for each test is more than enough to prepare you for the exmas. No homework, along with only having to study two or three chapters per test, makes it a very stress free class.
Lectures can be long but he is a great teacher. I did not use the book once. I only took notes the first day. Tests are funny i love the little extra jokes in the extraneous answers. His class fills up pretty fast!
I think him for Anth M08 linguistics, and he was an excellent teacher. His lectures are funny, and if you study his online study guides for the tests, you'll get an A. He's a really funny guy, and wickedly smart as well. Definitely take him
I only went to class on test days, and I was able to teach myself what I needed based off of his study guides. He also gives a review right before the test that is helpfull.
Great teacher. Lectures the whole time, and can talk for ages. However, when you have a question he will thoroughly answer it and probably go way off topic. Took BioAnth over summer, we had 1 quiz, a zoo project, midterm and final. That's it. and if you try a lil and study somewhat for the tests you'll do just fine.
Prof. Mattson is a treasure! He is a true teacher & takes current events and uses them to teach/apply ideas to class material. He is funny and he deeply cares about the success of his students. If you are a robot student who needs to be fed paper , points and projects, this isn't likely for you. This is a fun participatory class with rich ideas
Paul is a friendly guy but has a tendency to wander off on tangents in his lectures. He has political rants at times and covered only fragments of the material. I barely used the textbook and still passed his midterm and final with A's. There is one group project that is really easy. Take him if you want an easy A but not if you wanna learn anthro.
Mattson was the man! Probably the easiest class I have taken at Moorpark. Study guides are identical to the tests. Attendance not mandatory but gave really good lectures! He is also pretty funny. Take this class, you won't regret it.
If you don't like bad jokes this is NOT the class for you. Attendance is not mandatory but his exams feature (mostly) questions he covered in class or in movies so it would be a good idea to show up. great class and a great teacher.
Mattson is great! I went in just wanting an easy science credit and came out really interested in Anthropology. A great guy and a great lecturer. You will look forward to this class
He is definitely one of the best teachers I've had this semester. Mr. Mattson is hilariously funny and will help you with any questions you have! Multiple choice tests. Grades on a curve which is awesome! Love him! Studying is definitely required for the class.
He is really funny and it shows that he's very passionate about Anthropology. However, his lectures are kind of hard to follow and he doesn't really have a structure for how the class goes. BUT he does tell lots of jokes and tries to make it interesting. I only showed up on test days and passed easily. 2 exams, zoo project, attendance not mandatory.
Professor Mattson is an incredible teacher. He is kind and approachable. He runs his class very fairly. I took his Biological Anthro class over the summer and i was a great experience. There was no homework, you just need to stay on top of the readings. He gives you really helpful study guides for tests. The midterm and final are straightforward.
Funny lectures, always keeps your attention and he makes connection from the lectures to things thats will help you understand better. Highly recommend.
Multiple tests, a quiz and a group project. I wouldn't recommend because of confusing lectures, and no powerpoints. He will post everything you need to know on canvas, but it's A LOT so get ready to memorize it all. Attendance is not mandatory, so don't worry about missing class.
Amazing professor who brings in positive vibes. I really admired this professor. Notes are posted online. If you ever need help, he is more than willing to help and clarify a concept. Attendance is not mandatory, however, he tells you stuff in lecture that are not on the notes!
Really lecture-heavy class, and there is almost no work besides a handful of tests and one project. The lectures themselves are hilarious and easy to follow, but be prepared to teach yourself some of the material at home.
I took Linguistic Anthropology last semester because it's required for my AA. This was the only class/only teacher available for this class at Moorpark. I heard good things about the teacher and that he was funny. I showed up to the first 3 lectures and was bored out of my mind. Got an A for showing up for tests. Didn't learn anything in class.
I cant put into words how awesome Prof. Mattson is. Definitely Top 3 favorites at Moorpark. He is eccentric, highly knowledgeable, energetic, engaging, HILARIOUS, and utterly fascinating. The most fun Ive ever had in a class. The group project was so much fun. I wish he taught more classes
Hilarious and great guy but not the best teacher unless youre down to attend class for a laugh and go home to teach yourself most of the material. He is pretty confusing and hard to follow along during lecture and your grade is based off like 3 tests and one zoo project (which is pretty interesting and easy 10 points.) Attendence not mandatory.
Mattson is really funny. He teaches like a university professor, and wants students to get the overall picture. His tests are pretty common sense, and if you show up you don't need the book. There's a group project that's not super hard, my group did it in 3 classes. Super caring and chill dude. You won't learn a lot, but it's a good class.
HIs class felt like a comedy show most of the time, but I did not mind at all. I took Ling. Anthro. over the summer and just showed up to class, never even looked at the book, and came to the midterm and final to get a near perfect score on each. I kid you not, easiest A of your life if you go to class and just listen. 10/10
IM telling you right now. You don't need to attend class once to get a good grade. He teaches barely anything thats on the tests and you getting a good grade relies on your test grade. You get a good test grade if you look at the study guide and the terms. One homework assignment for the whole semester and really funny interesting guy.
The class, itself, is very easy. Little homework aside from one Moorpark Zoo field trip study. Gives extensive study guides for the test. Just study those and read the chapters in the book and you should pass easily. Grade heavily relies on test. I found the lectures themselves to be incredibly boring. Professor not very accessible out of class.
Taking Mattsons class is not hard, as there is only one homework assignment for the whole semester. You are graded on 4 test, a quiz, and the one homework assignment (zoo report). I found his lectures to be boring most of the time, and he often goes off on tangents. That being said, his study guide is very helpful. Study that and youll be fine.
I'm reviewing this professor for his online class because of COVID. If you have to take this class, I highly recommend taking it in person because you will be more or less on your own in the online course. If you are good at reading a textbook and able to learn on your own, this is a dream class. If not, stay away.
I took his ANTH M02 online summer course. It consisted of 4-10 ? quizzes, 1-50 ? midterm, a 2-3 pg assignment, and a 50 ? final. All easy if you take the notes on the list of terms he provides you with each week (including the final) and watch the videos. He gives extra credit, but I didn't need it. Not my major, but I really enjoyed his class!
I took this during summer and it was done all online.(5 - 10 questions) quizzes, midterm (50- questions), final (50- questions), weekly quiz/test prep webinars, 'ghost quizzes', and (2) term prep lists for the tests to fill out and turn in for points. Fantastic class and professor. HIGHLY recommend this class. Professor has a great sense of humor!
Only graded on quizzes and tests Quizzes are pretty easy but can be worded a little weird Test are long but you have a lot of time to do them, be careful reading the questions If you are good at taking tests/quizzes you will be just fine There was a "mandatory" textbook that I have not touched
He's cool. I mean, honestly I never read anything from the books, just kinda guessed on the tests and managed to pass with a 73%. Not the best but I really couldn't focus on this class. This subject couldn't grab my attention so it was really hard for me. As for the professor, he was super cool. Offered me extra credit, is a pretty funny guy too.
I seriously cannot say enough good things about professor Mattson. He is by the far the best professor I've had and made himself easily accessible with his office hours. The course I took was all online but now he teaches in person, so I am very jealous of all of his future students. He's hilarious and made me fall in love with linguistic anthro
Easy class, entertaining professor. Take this class to fill your science gen-ed requirement, it takes up little time and is somewhat interesting. I rate him a 5 because this class did not get in the way of my actual major related classes.
Professor Mattson's course was fairly easy. Watch the lectures and take good notes and you'll definitely get an A. He gives plenty of time for you to do the homework & quizzes. I've learned a lot from him.
Mattson always provides office hours, and sends out emails so you are updated. Weekly quiz' based on the reading and monthly exams make up your grade. Extra credit is available. Mattson is great.
A lovely fellow with a lovely way of writing and an amazing sense of humor. His cultural anthropology course included a lot of interesting documentaries and readings about so many different cultures and religions! Honestly, do the readings, they do not take much time and you will do just fine. He gives a lot of leniency and is very understanding.
This class is straightforward. Two textbooks, but all the questions a lot of time for quiz/exams) are based on the content covered in the professor's lecture videos and study guide. The professor is exceptionally attentive and caring, promptly responding to emails . I highly recommend taking this course,
Great professor and so incredibly knowledgeable. He has lots of videos that you need to watch because there will be questions about them on the quizzes. His recorded lectures sometimes get a bit long. No weekly discussions or papers to write. Just quizzes, midterm and a final. Lots of extra credit so it's not difficult to pass this class
This is one of the best professors ive had within my college career. I love his lecture videos and he is such a kind and funny teacher. Mostly quizzes which is what i prefer, but overall i love this class so much. Very well detailed and makes it easy to learn. If you have the chance to join his class, DO IT.
nothing but good things to say about this prof. I fell behind toward the end of the semester. Before I fell behind, it was super easy to understand him. He truly loves his job and it makes the class interesting, everything is open book so I love it ( i took his online course ) . I work close to all day so its easy to find time to get things done.
Clear and well-outlined work, some extra credit/external materials that help digest the work a bit better. He holds regular bi-weekly Zoom calls that review the textbook content and review upcoming quizzes and exams. One of the most prepared and concise professors I've had during my time at Moorpark.
Mattson is a fantastic professor - his lectures are engaging and he provides lots of support. While the class has weekly quizzes, there's ample opportunity for extra credit. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for staying on top of the content.
Prof Mattson is awesome!! Took his ANTH M01 class online and it was the easiest class ever. Only one short quiz and discussion due every week, and only 4 Exams (also super easy). 4 easy extra credit "ghost quizzes", and at the end of the semester he lets you take any missed quizzes or tests for full credit. He's also hilarious TBH. Easy A class.
Professor Mattson is the sweetest professor. His class is super chill. Make sure to get the textbooks (~$120 total). Tests & quizzes are open note & he offers a lot of extra credit. He has tons of resources for each week (kind of overwhelming honestly), but you don't need to use all of them—just do the review sheets & read chapter summaries.
His class/work were very straightforward and not difficult to do. He does provide tons of reading, videos, and notes to do to prepare for each weeks quiz, and there are discussions each week as well. For the midterm and final, it's a 50 question mcq and an essay which are both relatively easy. You have to buy 2 textbooks. I recommend!!
