It would have to be the students fault if they didn't do well in McComb's class. He's great and takes genuine interest. He totally supports students, in fact-I see him all the time at school functions and volunteers in programs that help students do well

He's completely useless. He makes multiple mistakes grading my tests. At least learn to do the math that you teach. Don't take him for any of the higher math classes (anything above algebra).

When doing examples on the board, he did not take time to answer questions. I didn't learn anything from him; i had to teach myself calc w/ the book. He is generous on the test though.I had heard he's a good algebra teacher, but don't take him for calc2

He moves on very fast, but he can be easy if you can catch up with him. If you are a lover of a sports, he is the one to take, he will tell you all the freshest news asbout it. He helps a lot in and outside of the class (if you'll ask). He is hot and fun!

Tests aren't bad, just know the formulas and you'll do fine. He's very nice and likes to make jokes... I'd definately recommend taking his class!

I have him for pre-calc, and find him to be an excellent teacher, moves along pretty fast sometimes, but f he gets ahead of you speak up and he will go back over stuff. And is very good about asking you if you have any questions

One of the best Prof. i had a chance to meet.He is more then willing to help anyone in need. He makes his class pretty interesting but he expects student to study. He is a great teacher and a great person, very down to earth and easy to talk to. A+++

I hate math very, very much. Somehow though, I didn't mind going to his course. I didn't even want to miss it. I learned a lot this semester from him and I highly recommend him to anyone else. He actually takes time to help the students whenever they may need help. Good Job!!

Meh. I hated this class. The first 20 minutes of every class was like ESPN sports center, and I hate sports. As a result I'd tune out and I never gained the ability to get back into what he was saying. He also never assigned homework, so I never had the chance to learn formulas without cramming.

He always makes the class laugh. I mean common when was the last time you laughed during a Math Class. He is very good and to the point and goes over the matterial a bit much but that's not allways a bad thing.

Very hilarious. that southern accent just cracks me up. he likes to talk about sports mainly football. teaches very well. he will write out notes and work out example problems. he moves quickly sometimes so you gotta keep up. other than that, very good math teacher.

This teacher is awesome! He explains everything in dummie terms so that there's no way you could get lost or confused. Which is great for anyone that has trouble with math. He also likes to make jokes and keep the class laughing... great math teacher.

His accent got kind of annoying, and constant football talk is annoying to those of us that hate it. I was just lucky I understood the material the first time, because he went through it fast, and other students got really lost. If you understand the notes and don't need the practice, he doesn't collect homework.

This guy is awesomeeeeee!!! If you like math, TAKE HIM for a teacher! If you don't like math, TAKE HIM for a teacher! He will go through every little detail and make sure that absolutely everybody knows what he is talking about. He made this class very easy and fun. Take him, you will not regret it!!!

Mr. McCombs is a very nice person. He grades very easy but he talks in Math terms. If you have trouble in math, you may have some difficulty in his classes. If you care about "really knowing" Math you should take someone else. If you want to pass and just don't care, take him. You can't fail a test.

Paul is a great teacher. He is helpful and patient. I would take him again. I highly recommend him. His tests are all show your work, no multiple choice, but he is a leniant grader. I really enjoyed his class.

his tests are hard but he's fair when grading. DON'T STUDY THE PACKETS FOR TESTS!!! they will not help you that much. however do the homework and look over your notes. he was a great teacher, he just needs to slow down a bit, he talks so fast! but he is helpful and is funny. he reminds me of that boomhauer guy from king of the hill w/ his fast talk

Summer classes with him are boring and too fast. He writes a lot on the board and looks like he is talking to it. TESTS ARE HARD! Test 1: Too many questions, not enough time to double check all answers. Test 2: NO CALCULATOR! Memorize ALL EQUATIONS! Maybe he is better during spring or fall classes. Unfortunately his summer class is BAD!

Disregard the person that said his class was hard. Like any class, a little commitment can go a long way. I received a 59 on my first exam and made it all the way to a 94 on my last one. I earned a B. He knows his stuff and is willing to stay after for questions. Very down to earth. I highly recommend him for summer.

I have always struggled with math and due to his grueling fast pace, Mr. Mccombs was hard to keep up with. While he may be a nice guy and funny at times, he never really presented himself as the helpful type, often refusing questions and instead telling us to "just look it up in the book," as if we were just supposed to teach ourselves.

Very helpful in and out of class. He worked almost every problem we asked him and he explained it very clearly. He never told me to look it up for myself. Very generous and understanding. I hated math, but he made it easy.

At first, I was terrified by how fast he moves. As the class went on, I realized that it is nearly impossible to fail. He is the most lenient grader I have ever had. Some tests I felt I only had 1/4 of the questions right and still got B's. Very nice helpful guy, but he moves at a lightning pace w/ a southern accent. Reccomend him 100%.

McCombs is a great guy, tells great stories but teaching is not for him. I felt like he wrote too much pointless notes. Lots of words and not enough numbers. He would write everything from the book on the board and thought that was enough. FYI:He's really into sports!

Mr.McCombs is an amazing teacher. I've always hated math & never quite understood it, but since I began his class, it's made sense.He spends a lot of time explaining any difficult problems & is also helpful outside of class. He's down to earth, funny, and makes math easy. He also has a great Southern accent! I would recommend him to anyone!

Great teacher. Surprised to read other comments that put him in bad light. He explained things very clearly, and was very helpful in and outside of class. He broke it down so it would make sense. I would definitley take him again.He is very fair when it comes to grading, anything I got wrong was my own fault.

Great class. Paul was fair, told everyone how the grades would be done, and then followed through. He was always available before and after class for questions. Certainly knows the material well. Tests were fair, lowest was dropped. Final NOT cumulative. I'd take another class from him in a heartbeat.

Pros: Hilarious, makes class fun, great educator, grades easily. Cons: Doesn't know how to get out of the way when he's doing a problem so he's constantly blocking what he's writing down. It gets VERY frustrating. Overall, I'd recommend him for MTH 211 any day.

Good Teacher. Take notes. He writes a lot on the board. But if you take notes and study for the tests, you will do fine. Like in any class the grade that comes out reflects the effort you put in.

Calc II is very hard. At first I hated prof mccombs since he did not let us use a calculator. But now i see, he is my best teacher ever. he explaines so well. I couldn't have survived without his help. Very helpful

I've heard horror stories from Calc II, and I had him for PreCalc. Didn't learn a thing. He always blocked the board, and went over the whole trig section in a week--I didn't retain a thing! He just shows examples, but doesn't actually teach. Good for easy simple classes, but killer for actual math classes that you'll rely on (CALC). Take GUO!

Mr Mccombs is very fast. I had a hard time keeping up, but when I looked back at my notes to study, everything was there perfectly laid out for me. He is a great teacher, and does lots of examples. Very helpful in and out of class

I have had Mr Mccombs for 2 courses, Calc II and Diff. Eqns. He is pretty challenging but very helpful. He explains every step of the problems, more than he should. All the hard work he put me through in calc II paid off when it came to DE. Thanks Mr McCombs, do not change.

Willing to answer questions and help out.I love his accent and he is actually really funny. He started off kind of fast but then seemed to slow down some. Test directions are somewhat unclear but if you study they are not too bad. Gives you a chance for extra points with a take home test. Homework requires alot of time but it helps alot.

Super nice guy, but not the best at preparing you for what is going to be on the test, so it is a must for you to do your online homework,(which is a lot) so you know what will be on the test. Book isnt necessary because there is a copy of it on mathlab that you have to use. *This is not a internet course.

Very helpful!! Writes all his notes on the board and you can ask questions if you don't understand something. He makes math fun! He has a sense of rumor. He's southern and you will find out that he loves the Kansas State football team. I recommend that you take him!! Good luck!

I might have liked math if he would have taught it at my high school. Very funny guy, makes you want to come to class. if you need to take trig or any other math class take him. summer class with him can be difficult because of the work load and limited time. great teacher.

Really nice teacher. Very approchable. However my one complaint is that he talks very fast and kind of quite which makes it hard to follow at times. Overall, i like him. If you ay attention and keep up with homework, then you will do fine.

Lots of material to cover. He goes through it fast but is detailed and covers the material well. You need to write fast. He allows you to record the lesson. Very helpful and he is nice about answering questions. Not alot of homework. Tests are not multiple choice, they are difficult and time consuming. Be prepared! I highly recommend taking him.

McCombs is a great teacher. He is very helpful, perhaps to the point of being over helpful at times. His tests are fairly straightforward, but it would be helpful to have a notecard for a couple of them. His stories are enjoyable and make class a little more interesting.

I don't know how he has such a high rating because this was the hardest class I've taken at RVC yet. If you want to completely teach yourself the material, take this class. He doesn't actually teach you anything, he just does examples on the board. He talks really fast and quietly. The tests are mc but only 20-25 questions and worth 100 points.

Dr McCombs is very helpful and willing to answer lots of questions. He gave us review sheets to prepare us for the exams. That is all I looked at when studying and I made an A on the exams, except the one where I did not look at his review sheet. I learned my lesson to study and practice problem. The homework on MML are not that easy.

I really liked Professor McCombs and the way he taught. The tests were all multiple choice and fairly simple. He graded tests quickly and fairly. As long as you show up to class and do your homework you should do just fine. I would definitely take McCombs again.

Paul McCombs classes are soooo boring it's killing. Somehow he manages to keep the students from having little to no interaction but it doesn't seem intentional. Get beyond that and he explains EVERY PROBLEM in multiple ways so that you can understand. And attendance is not required except for test days. An amazing professor.

Gives study guides for every test. Come to class, do the study guides+ homework and you should do fine. Often shows multiple ways of solving a problem. In general, very laid back nice guy. A little quiet, sometimes writes small- would suggest sitting near front of room. Doesn't take attendance, but very easy to fall behind if you don't show up.

I like him better as a person than a professor. He's really nice and love Kansas State football team, but he is unorganized and doesn't teach the material very well(not for geometry anyways). He doesnt provide study guides. He just goes based on what the book says to do. He doesnt explain things very well either. I honestly wouldn't take him again.

I was disappointed with how fast he went through the material. It made it hard to follow. And when he asks if there are any questions, he doesn't look to see if any hands are raised. He barely even looks at the students.

Good teacher and is there to help you if you need it. He constantly asks if there are any questions and makes sure to actually scan the room before moving on to more material. Only downside is there is a ton of homework and you better understand what you're doing for the tests.

Dr. McCombs is definitely one of the best mathematics professors at Rock Valley. Even though our course was accelerated, he took the time to thoroughly explain all of the information. I loved his dry humor and stories. I only took one of his classes, and yet he still remembered me. He would even say hi to me whenever I would see him in the hall.

I suck at math, always have. McCombs explains it in a way that I can understand more easily than other math teachers I've had. He's very detailed and clear, though he does talk very fast. We had no quizzes, just online homework and final and 5 in-class exams. Start homework early. It takes a while to finish. No extra credit, didn't curve grades.

He was an excellent professor. Really made an effort to relate to students and made sure they understood the material. He often went out of his way to offer extra help to students who were visibly struggling. Like you should, you will have to work for your grade. But if you don't pass, it's not from his lack of effort. You won't regret taking him.

I took his summer class. He explains things very well so there are no surprises on the tests. He makes math easy to understand and the tests aren't too hard. He's also occasionally funny, but mostly serious. He's a good choice if you want to learn something.

Dr. McCombs was great at explaining everything very clearly. Some students did not like him much, but I think they did not take very good notes. My notes when I looked back to study were so precise, I sometimes did not catch it all in class, he was fast, ut the notes I wrote from the board cleared up everything. Best teacher ever.

Professor McCombs is very funny and nice. Personally, his class was way too easy for me. I did not believe attendance was mandatory, but I know some people in my class did struggle. He is very open to questions and is reached easily through email and office hours.

Overall, I liked Professor McCombs. I just did not like trig. He is quite amusing when he talks about his alma mater ("K-State"). Good lecturer. His homework is not too hard, however, you will definitely need to study quite a lot for the exams. He is a good option for a math professor at Rock Valley.

Professor McCombs is a good teacher who is willing to help, so ask questions. However, he talks/writes quickly and is very quiet. I recommend sitting in the front. He lectures on a chapter and does lots of example problems. The tests are pretty easy and cover what was talked about. There is lots of homework, so keep up with it and you'll be fine.

professor mccombs is ok but he writes and talks WAY too fast. his teaching style is basically 10000 example problems and you barely have time to scribble it down let alone understand it. and oh dont get me started on the my math lab homework, youll want to pull your hair out. at the end of semester he assigns a TON. overall nice guy, meh teacher

Dr. McCombs is one of the best teacher I've ever had. His handwriting is not the best, but he literally writes them off of textbook so if you carry textbook, you are good to go. His class is test heavy though. There were 3 or 4 tests including final and one homework and that was it. If you have any questions, then ASK HIM. He is willing to help us.

He gives LOTS of homework but plenty of time to do it. He talks really fast so make sure youre paying attention. You can use the text book online instead of buying the whole book so you just have to purchase the access code. Also, he stands right in front of the board where hes writing so its impossible to see what hes doing until he moves.

McCombs is probably one of my least favorite professors that I have taken. He is clearly knowledgeable, but as others have said, he talks way too fast. Sometimes it would seem like he would be stuck in his own world and suddenly realize that he was teaching a class. Lots of homework and usually irrelevant to test material. I wouldn't recommend him.

McCombs is a super nice guy. His teaching style threw me off a bit as he talks without making eye contact to the class and scribbles examples so fast on the board you have a hard time keeping up. The homework is a bit time consuming and irrelevant to the tests. If you want to pass, study examples from notes and do the TEXTBOOK problems.

I loved professor McCombs! he does write fast on the board and is not an interesting lecturer, but that expected from a college algebra class. He is always willing to help out. My advice would be to learn how to use your graphing calculator early on and itll help you in the long run!

I had Prof. McCombs many years ago. I began college at age 15, & he was my first prof! He was so wonderful. I wasn't a fan of math, but he made it bearable. The important part, though, was who he was as a person. When I had to be hospitalized, he was so understanding and genuinely cared. I remember that more than any math problem. A top notch man.

I took a 16 week course in 4 weeks with him and he was a great professor. Always accessible outside of class and he cares about his students. A lot of homework but if you do it all youll do great! If I could have him teach all my math classes it would be amazing lol

He is a great teacher, I sometimes tend to struggle in math but this class wasnt too tough. You just have to make sure to stay up to date on homework & study for exams. He moves very quickly but does give you a lot of resources to use if you dont quite understand what is discussed in class.

Grade is based off 7 exams including the final and about 6 homework assignments per unit. Although I am usually a great math student, his teaching style just wasnt for me and I found myself having to teach myself the material at home. Towards the end of the semester I felt like it was pointless to show up to class if I wasnt going to learn.

I took Professor McCombs for Math 120, and I honestly did not learn anything until I did the homework that is assigned to you through an outside resource. I am normally great at math, but I 100% struggled in this class. He does a lot of examples on the board and goes through them step by step which is sort of helpful.

I had him for an online class. There was no video lectures or any other form of teaching. It was all work on MyLab. Someone who never had experience with this content would definitely struggle. I would probably take him for an in-person class due to his good review, but definitely not again for online.

Professor McCombs is a nice man but one of the worst teachers I have ever had. During his lectures, he goes too fast and doesn't explain how to solve the problems accurately. You are better off learning straight from the textbook and using extra videos to help. Try to get out of this class if you can.

I took this class online and it wasnt too bad. Majority of your grade relies on tests so you have to do well on them to do good in the class. At least two homework assignements per week. I liked that the prof gave an outlined schedule for each week, that really helped me stay on top of things.

Mr. McCombs was awesome! I took Math 115 over winterim and he did such a great job keeping us on track and motivated. It's math, so there are of course a lot of assignments but there's no way around that w/a math class. If he noticed you stalled, he reached out to check on you. He truly genuinely cares. I couldn't recommend him more.

Mr. McCombs was an amazing teacher. I liked his weekly emails explaining what was supposed to be done.He also detailed a day by day schedule and by the end of the week what was expected. I did the winter course and was considerate with the holidays.He was accesible and very caring! I would take his class for my next math course if he offered it. AA

Took 8 week CALC II summer session. 6 in-person exams for an asynchronous class, professor expected students to learn from the book or find their own resources as the only help he provided was responding to emails. This class is equivalent to learning on your own. I think lots of students dropped, as I saw past test averages rise slowly over time.

Unfortunately mccombs teaches very quickly & unclearly. Homework every day and if you don't do it, you will not be prepared for the test which is every other week. Overcomplicates things. Some stuff on HW looks different than in class material. I didn't listen to RMP reviews and I heavily regret not doing so. Please just find another professor.

Course was easy to fit into my schedule, and although there were 6 in person exams, I was able to take them at any certified testing center. Class was expected to learn from the textbook, and calc 2 is difficult, so I had trouble with this but made it. The only contact I had with McCombs was through email, where he would respond within a day.

His lectures contain a lot of examples. If you take this class do not fall behind on homework. There is a lot but it can drastically drop your grade if you miss it. If you have a chance try to avoid the Math 120P because that just means more time to do more work and if you can get into the regular class because there isn't much review added.

Nice guy and all, but other than that, the structure is awful. I would say its a self-taught class, with hundreds mylab assignments ONLY to prep you. There are exams every other week. Median tests scores for exams were VERY LOW. 50-60%. Please just stay away , but he is a very respectable guy. (dont expect extensions or extra credit etc.)

He was nice however moved on way too fast. There wasn't another teacher there to help nor did he go around the class to help. Everything was online which made it even harder. He didn't explain well and I barely learned a single thing. So confusing.

basically, a self-taught class. no personal lecture videos of his, all the resources such as textbook, videos, and animations are all through the WebAssign website. He would send out reminders weekly and review our proctored exams. Other than that, there was not really much interaction, your grade will depend on how much work you put in.
