A real good teacher, tests are straight from the handouts..keeps it easy
great teacher all test ?s come from notes. book really was waste of money!!!
He knows a lot of info & tells you a lot of little known facts that are pretty interesting. Gives handouts, tests come straight from them Doesn't use book, it's a waste of $$.
study the handouts not the book
Great Teacher. Very Informative and enlightening. If you take notes of important things and studdy the handsouts, You Will Pass. I would read my notes and only look to the book when I wanted more info on a specific item from history. I recommend his class
Rekindled my love for history. Goes into detail and teaches things you wouldn't learn anywhere else. Class is very interesting. Made a B even though I thought I should have gotten an A (Attendance/Participation is part of grade).
be prepared to run around in circles because this guy talks in them. You could sum up his class in 5 min. but he seems to stretch it to an hour.Only amusing thing is he wears this oversized leather jacket regarless of the temp.it makes his head look small
SOOOOOO Boring. Thinks he is funny, but the only person who laughs at his jokes is himself.
STUDY HIS HANDOUTS, AND JUST TAKE NOTES IN HIS CLASS AND YOU WILL DO FINE. HE LOVES HISTORY AND IS VERY WILLING TO ANSWER ANY QUESTION YOU HAVE. HE CAN BE A LITTLE STRICT, BUT HE IS FAIR AND UNDERSTANDING.
Very easy, take good notes with the handouts he gives. Do not even need the book.
Great!
Very easy all you need to do is take notes. He makes history intresting.
he sucked
um i fell asleep so many times i don't even remember the class very well, dropped it as soon as i could. hard to follow and test material is unclear. take goss.
what a easy teacher
Class is simple for those who take good notes and study handouts for test. No book necessary unless you need futher reading for understanding the material. People who dropped class said he was boring and they were not good note takers. They wanted book work; not me.
Interesting class lectures, and good handouts. Dont buy the book, just go to class and study handouts, you'll do good.
McRee is pretty good at lecturing. DONT BUY THE BOOK if you are a great notetaker. Test come straight from his lectures. Makes History interesting at times, however he is known to laugh at his own jokes.
This was a very easy class. Tests are very easy and you don't even need the book all you need to study are his handouts. Makes the class very interesting and it is an easy A.
Very awesome teacher!! I injoyed every minute of his lectures. He had a lot of great stories that really helped me better understand the material. His test were very easy. All you need to do is show up for his lectures and study the handouts and your going to get an easy A.
he is very clear because he will re-inforce a topic several times but at the same time doesn't go too slow. makes you understand and find history more interesting with his funny stories. this is actually the better way of teaching, i believe, and students learning. what a great professor! take him.
He is a great teacher, test are straight forward, just listen in class and study the handouts. I likes all his stories especially when he mentions the Simpsons all the time.
Very nice guy, tests come straight from the handouts. He's funny and makes History a little less boring. You do not need the book!
He was our sub. for a month & I loved him! I absolutly HATE history, fell asleep in all my history classes & I actually paid attention to the entire lectures. He tells you stories that are really interesting that you never learn in other history classes. Test are okay, just study the review.
Best teacher i have ever had! I hated history in highschool, thought it was the worst subject ever. McRee makes it so interesting you actually want to go to class because you want to hear more. He tells it as if he was reading a story. Dont buy the book! Just take notes and you will make an A.
I've never met anyone who doesn't like this guy. He's lenient, nice, and really funny! Just show up and take notes!
this is no doubt the BEST teacher u can take for history.his class is not only NOT boring--but SO much fun. he's really funny!! tells entertaining stories relating to history.tests are easy if you study; no tricks. really nice and cares about ur success in the class. he rocks overall...ur stupid if u don't take him. hurry-his classes fill up fast!
STOP! LOOK NO MORE! GO REGISTER! WITH MCREE....NOW! HURRY! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Awesome teacher...easy as long as you go to class listen and/or take notes(the books not needed)...tests are easy and theres only one essay (which isnt graded very hard)
He is by far one the best history teachers I have ever had. He makes class interesting and easy to remember certain facts.
He's a great teacher, I've never been a fan of history, but he's awesome. I recommend his class.
He is a awesome teacher. I've never liked history or been into it what so ever, but the way he teaches is very interesting. I recommend him very highly. If you do take him though, do not buy the book as long as you go to class and take notes you should be good.
Great Professor!! His class is very interesting! He makes things easy to remember and lectures in way you want to keep listening. Highy recommend!!
This teacher makes the class interesting by giving entertaining anecdotes and things to keep you from falling asleep. However, there only 4 grades to make in the class; 3 tests and a paper. This makes it hard b/c each test covers 6 or more chapters, making it hard to remember so much info at once, which limits your room for mistakes.
lectures from handouts with notes on them and tells you to study those, but come test time there are things that werent in the handouts. but if you just read the book and not the handouts, youll miss stuff then too. his tests cover a LOT of material (the last test covered 8 ch.'s),and with that much info, there are a LOT of things to remember.
Awesome! History became interesting, not just a bunch of dates. For the tests he gave us 99% of the info in his lectures and the itty bit he didn't cover was on the handouts so we would know exactly what to look up in the book.
This man is great! His lectures are so interesting and his tests are the best and easiest.
He is so awesome and funny. He really knows what he is talking about and has a passion for history. I would take him over and over if I could! Plus he is super cute!
San Jacinto does not deserve this historian! What a delight to have this man as my professor. I have learned more about American history in his class than any other in my life; just listen to his great stories. His tests are straight comprehensive multiple choice as they should be.
Very very good teacher! He loves history and makes it even more intersting with personal stories and little facts that give you a better scope of the time. Whether you like history or not i recommend this teacher. Come to class and pay attention and you'll pass the class. I recomend taking his evening course.
I couldn't stand History before his class. Now, I catch myself talking about it. 30 kids started the class and 28 finished it, that says alot. Get to class on time so you never miss one of his stories, they're awesome. I wanted all of my friends to come to class with me just to here some good lecturing. Good illustrations. Love you Mr. Paul!!
AWESOME Teacher!!! He is so into what he does. I never liked History before this now I love it! Took history twice before at a diff college and made D's both times. With McRee I made an A and still remember EVERYTHING. Didn't have to read the book. Everything you need comes from his lectures. Show up to class and take notes and you will make an A!
Professor McRee is the best history teacher you will ever have. Funny, intelligent, and interesting. Class is fairly easy as long as you attend every day for lecture. Tests come straight from lecture. Do not expect only to read the book and ace the tests.
I have never learned so much history in such an interesting way in my whole life. Never used the book. The test was all based on the notes.
This guy is awesome. I chose my classes very late and his was the only one open, and i just got very lucky. He puts everything into really easy words to understand. If you have the opportunity to take this guy then do it
Mr. McRee was great! I really enjoyed his lectures and his exams were easy if you attended class! He explained everything well. His research paper is also easy. He will check it for you before it is due. By the time the due date arrives, you should have an A paper! His class was fun!
He was just suppose to substitute for Mr. Strickland..but he bcame our permanent teacher since Mr. Strickland passed away. Thank God for Mr McRee. His tests are 200% easier and all based on his lecture (no need to read the book). Great to have a teacher who teaches what you need to know to be successful in his class. HE ROCKS!! Take him!!
give lots of details. easy to listen and learn.
McRee is a really good teacher because he tries to give a wonderful perspective of what happens in history. There is no need to use the book. His tests are based on the lecture. I made 100's on all the tests and I didn't even study hard. To be successful, all you have to do is pay attention.
I really enjoyed his class and also I learned alot in his class. All I can say is God bless his heart. His tests are simple.
best history teacher in the central campus
Great teacher!!!
GREAT TEACHER. MAKES THE CLASS INTERESTING!! IF YOU HATE HISTORY HE CAN MAKE YOU LOVE IT. JUST DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK YOU DON'T NEED IT!!!
McRee is 2 COOL 4 SKOOL. FO REALZ. Seriously, he's GREAT. LOVED his class. wish he taught different subjects. VERY FUNNY. VERY CLEAR. if you just LISTEN to his lectures you'll make AT LEAST a B. He makes it so interesting you won't really need to take notes and if you do you'll make an A+.
By far the best Prof ive had in my college experience. This guys makes the class enjoy history.
Mr. McRee is a wonderful teacher! He makes history so interesting...I just wish that I had known that we didn't even use the book before I bought it...but oh well...he is still an awesome teacher and everybody should take his class!
A wondeful teacher who makes history so entertaining and fun. If you pay attention and take notes, there will be no problem getting a good grade. He a such an amazing professor even if history is not your thing.
If you go to class and take notes. you dont need the book. He really knows his stuff and really loves it. He gives tons anecdotes that help the stuff really sink in. GREAT TEACHER! taking him again for Hist 1302
I love this class its not a usual boring history class. He makes everything relate to something and he really knows his stuff. You don't need the text book and if you show up to class and take notes you have it made.
Very good teacher, great and interesting lectures. has a lot of good stories. attendance is important, because most of the stuff u learn will be from class. no book necessary.
Mr. Mcree is a awesome teacher. I've taken three history professors at San Jac and he's by far the best. He makes the subjects interesting and explains the material so you can relate. You must go to class because he doesn't use the text for test.
I loved taking his class. I took him in a winter mini and it was great. He makes you stay the whole time but he tries so hard to relate history to you in ways that make it more interesting. And he has some pretty interesting stories. I recommend taking him in the mini because you don't have to write the paper like his regular class.
don't buy the book. use notes that you can print from blackboard and take notes in class. he's very interesting if you like history and i learned alot.
My only complaint with Professor McRee is that class participation is a grade and he seems to grade harshly in that aspect. Otherwise he was easy and interesting.
Awesome Teacher, really nice! Easy class just listen and take notes, made an A or maybe a B i cant remember but if you pay attention and take lots of notes you'll do fine, easy tests too. Funny stories! lol ask him about Fort McRee hahaha! Cant wait to take him for my next level of history
his tests are based on what is mention in class. If you take notes and lisen you are on the way to a good grade. he is funny sometimes. the class was very intresting and i actually learned alot of things that i did not know before. he uses outlines and since i bought the book i only opended like twice.
He is the best history teacher ever. he makes the material interesting and easy to understand. you really dont need the book. tests are based off what he says in class. he gives 3 tests(no final), and 1 essay(which is easy). TAKE THIS MAN FOR ALL OF YOUR HISTORY CLASSES.
Excellent Professor, knows and enjoys the subject he teaches. As another rater noted you may not need the book if you attend all of his lectures. He will occasionally run out of time and tell you to read something but this only happened once. No comprehensive final, 3 chapter exams, 1 book reading exam and a "Hollywood vs. History" essay.
as long as you go to class and take decent notes you'll get an a. tests are based on lectures and a participation grade is taken based on how often you sign in. Very easy highly recommend.
easy teacher, attend class, take good notes and study notes for the test and you'll make an A. take him for both semesters of history!! makes his lectures interesting with lots of examples. easy paper to do.
Real good teach. Don't take him early, you will fall asleep, not cause he's not interesting cause he is. Got lots of good stuff to tell, you get like 5 grades total. So dont F up on the tests. Take good notes. Dont buy book.. didn't use it once.
GREAT guy!! 4 test and 1 paper.. EASY! don't waist money on book.. didn't need it once. test are straight from lecure.. very interesting guy who has alot to say. take good notes and STUDY!!!
Listen to what he says, more than likely it will be on the test. He doesn't require you to know the dates jsut waht happened. If you have a question he will go out of his way to help you.
he is a great teacher! just go to class and take GOOD notes and you shouldn't have a problem passing this course. dont bother buying a book either. he also explains everything clearly where you can understand it.
He is a great professor! I don't think I have ever learned so much from a history teacher before. I look forward to going to his class! The textbook is not required because the tests come straight from the notes. So pay attention and believe me you will learn and enjoy his class!!
I absolutley loved his class he is awesome. I love his stories he tells us. A good teacher I highly recommend him. Easy A if you are in class all the time which is not a problem cause his stories are interesting. Hardly used the book overall Easy A just write 3 1 to 1 1/2 essays on questions he asks and listen to lectures.
Excellent impression of Ronald Raegan walking to his podium.
An outstanding individual that is hilarious with his hand motions and his stories. Keeps the class interesting and makes you laugh. Get use to the phrase.."isn't that odd" and his hand gestures. seriously he is an awesome teacher and enjoyed his class very much.
EASY CLASS. STORIES ARE THE BEST. His class is quite hard to fall asleep in cause he's amazing.
Honestly he's not a good teacher. He goes off on so many tangents in each class. Literally from the time the class starts to the time it ends (even later sometimes) he talks non-stop. He doesn't use any visual tools, so if you're a visual learner his class won't benefit you. He is just too hard to understand.
absolutely wonderful!! I forgot to rate him when I took his class, but I took a mini. You don't use the book at all. Just show up and listen to the lecture. If you're a good listner you don't even have to take notes. He is very interesting and keeps you engaged in the lecture. Wish he taught the evenings, I was forced to take another teacher!
McRee is a great teacher--studying wasn't really necessary because the lectures were engaging; The only reason we used the book was due to the lovely Hurricane Ike. Attendance is a big one--I would have had an A if I didn't have a 60% attendance grade :(
Great teacher, he tells stories from time to time but if you listen it will help you remember. Don't buy the book because you won't use it. If your a good listener than you wont need notes. His test are straight from the lecture. EASY EASY A IF YOU CAN LISTEN!!!!!
I liked this teach a lot. He made class fun, and I really enjoyed going. He's really funny and keeps class interesting!
This is the man you want for US History! He's interesting and his tests come straight from his lectures.Even allows 3x5 "cheat card" for tests! Show up and listen up you'll be good to go! Pre-grades essays - obviously wants his students to succeed! His jokes aren't always the funniest, but he's a good teacher.
He has some kind of lame jokes but others are really funny, it definately helps the lesson go by. His tests are right off the notes, so just listen to him in class..no need to buy the book.
He is a really good teacher.
He makes class very interesting you can tell he likes teaching. His stories are interesting and he's fun/cheesy but he made it fun to learn what he was teaching. It's not hard at all if you just pay attention
Not bad, interesting lectures (corny jokes) repetitive on imp. info (tells you what to know by repeating it obviously...) test is based on handout info. (lotsa extra junk in the book not on the test) take notes stay awake you'll have an easy A.
Interesting teacher. Don't need the book at all, so don't buy it. As long as you go to class everyday, stay awake and take a lot of notes you will pass this class with an A easy. Test are super easy as long as you listen & take notes. Not that bad of a teacher either.
Man super easy class. Just show up. Take notes. You will pass. Everything he says in the lectures will be on the test. Super easy. Buy textbook only if you plan on missing class. Otherwise no. Took him for both hist. Super easy. Understands tests and I put him on the new generation of teachers. Super easy!
Even with his corny jokes i would recomend him. Didnt need the book,as long as you came to class and listened to the lectures you are sure to pass.
THIS PROFESSOR IS GREAT!!! SEEMED TO BE TELLING A STORY AS HE LECTURED.HIGHLY RECOMMEND. TOOK HIM FOR HIST 1 AND HIST 2.
Professor McRee is easily one of the best teachers at this campus. if you pay attention in this class and take notes you can easily pass. He also makes it very easy to pay attention to him, he has a very likable personality.
I took him for the summer mini and as long as you go to class and take the notes you will not need to buy the book. Maybe it was because it was a mini but expect to be there on time and not to leave early, other than that easy class. For a class that was 4+ hours it was very easy to pay attention. I will be taking 1302 from him.
Good teacher, learned a lot and didn't have to spend extra money on the textbook. As long as you show up and take notes, then you'll pass.
Awesome teacher! I am taking him for the first summer mini and the second! He's a pretty funny guy so it stays interesting and if you pay attention you should do great!
Boring sometimes, but keeps my attention in class. Make sure to take notes and study. Some of his test questions are tricky to understand, so read carefully. We had to write 3 one page double spaced essays on songs from eras, NOT hard at all. He sometimes goes off subject and you have to catch up by read a chapter or two. He's a good teacher!
He grades too harsh on class participation but is still a very knowledgable professor with lots of corny yet somehow funny jokes...pretty easy tests and assignments
Took in summer, he only had 3 tests, a reading quiz,a paper, attendance,&participation for grades.Rarely used the textbook.I didn't study too hard for his tests and it showed, i made a C. His tests were decent not too hard not too easy.Your grade does reflect attendance, so if you're often late or not there be prepared for no better than a B.
Mr Mcree is an awesome teacher that Got me interested in History! I had him for 1302 and his test were not that hard at all, I highly recommend him!!
Great Prof. Loved his lectures. Made me very interested in History. Take him! Your grade reflects your attendance, so be there. You do not need the textbook. Tests are straight from outlines and notes. TAKE GOOD NOTES! Tests aren't hard, but not easy. Make sure you study. He can ramble at times, but he gets to the important things. Great class!
Really good class, enjoyed the class a lot. Very smart professor gives a lot of information. Be sure to take good notes otherwise your test will be very hard. Test are not that easy. Some questions will make you think, which helps when you attend class because you can recall the lectures. Have t o attend every class, takes roll every class.
I had this professor for 1301 & 1302. It is obvious he really enjoys what he does and it shows in how he teaches. Just pay attention in class and you'll do great. Highly recommend taking him if you can.
Great Professor! No book- test over his notes!Tells history like a story. Turn in reports early so he can look over them, easy A. 10% given class participation unless u dont show up. 10 Q&A multiple choice quiz over 100 pg book-EASY! If he mentions his family in history it will be on the test!
Took him online this summer. He may be great in class but online he was not helpful at all. Does not send reminders (which isn't good for you procrastinators). 4 test. 3 essays (page and half each) and an outside reading assignment. No notes or reviews. Great for those you like to learn straight from text books, otherwise I don't recc. him online.
I would have to agree. This teacher may be great in class, but isn't a good online teacher. He doesn't even teach us anything! He just makes u read out of the book and take long tests, and says that you cant look up the answers WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE!! He doesn't even give any notes in blackboard.. Overall, i wouldn't suggest taking him for summer..
This is this first time I have took this professor for Hist1302 2nd 8 wk mini- 1 book required Lone Eagle for outside reading quiz, 3 exams (all from notes) 3 1+ page papers, and class participation- as long as you go everyday AND TAKE NOTES- easy A- He knows who's there or not and who's trying!Heads up for those who like to leave early, POP QUIZ!
Took him for both 1301 and 1302. One for the full 16-Week and another for a 3-Week Mini Term. No book needed. Lecture outline notes on Blackboard. You have to attend class to pass- tests from daily lecture. Nice guy, easy class(es).
I look forward to going to his class. He is probably the best professor I've ever had, he is very clear in his lectures and is willing to answer any questions you have. Passed all of his test and never even opened the book. Outstanding lectures!!!
He is a great teacher and he was nice. He has a lot of random history that is very interesting. He doesn't use Powerpoint so you have to pay good attention. The test are kinda specific and you have to study. He is a great teacher and I reccomend him for those that are a little interested in history. If you hate it then you may not enjoy the class.
Apart from the 3 essay songs, he is a great professor. The Lone Eagle was a great book and the test was pretty easy. Took him for the Mini. Read the outlines, Don text or attend to your phone in class and show up in class...EASY
He is a GREAT teacher. All the exams are from his lecture. He is straight forward when it comes down to the papers you have to write. He always has interesting stories. He is the best professor I have had at San Jac!
I didn't like History before taking Mr. McRee.I was always one of those people that avoided conversations about History because I never really quite understood what it was about. Now after taking him...I LOVE HISTORY!! He made it so interesting! He lectures like he's talking to you directly and I'm glad I finally learned the material. GREAT TEACHER!
i absolutely hated history before i took mcree but he made me love it. i seriously learned so much from him and his class was fairly easy. just print out the outline, take lots of notes, do the song essaay and you'll do fine. believe me you'll love his class!
Took online and will take him online for 1302. He posts all expectations in the syllabus, which makes it easy to make a timeline for yourself. Tests are kind of hard, but it is straight out of the book.
Prof. McRee is very knowledgeable and passionate abut history. He share very cool experience from his trips. Test are directly from his notes. I loved his class and personality.
Worst teacher to take online! He makes you buy a book that he wrote for quiz purposes. He does not bother to post anything on the Announcement except the 1st day of class. The secondary book is not available in the library.
His lectures on history are lively and very interesting. He is a history buff and enthused about his subject matter. He sticks to his handouts when it comes to testing. The songs he uses for his essays are not difficult, just make sure you site every little thing and put your findings into your own words.
Make sure to buy your books from Ebay online since they're less expensive than bookstore. The syllabus is straight forward, I took this class online and the deadlines and detailed instructions are on syllabus. The tests are a little hard but you have to make sure and read the chapters or skim them and take good notes.
GREAT TEACHER!! Test are easy and follow the review, he makes class interesting, very helpful, doesn't use text book which is always good. I took this over the summer and it was very easy, loved his class and would highly recommend him!
Best history teacher I have ever had. If you go to class and pay attention and take notes there no way you cant get an A. I never once looked into the text book because he explains everything so clearly. You do have to read the book that he wrote for quiz grades that he averages for a test grade but it is not a hard read. Very easy class!!
Great class this is the best class i have ever taken
Awesome professor. It takes a lot to hold my attention and I was never bored in the class. His test are easy as long as you study your notes and the book. I looked forward to going to his class. I highly recommend him.
The tests are hard. Simple as that, you have to read the chapters and know the material well to pass the tests with an A. The questions make you think and you have to look it up in the book. He does over an extra credit that can boost up 5+ on average. Definitely do the extra credit.
Well attendance is Mandatory the lectures are basically a prep for the exams which there are only 3 and the final is over the section covered for my class he let us use an index card for the test, no homework no random quizzes. There is one written assignment which he gives time to turn in pretty easy chill class. I loved going every day.
AWESOME TEACHER! VERY ENTHUSIASTIC,VERY FUN. WILL KEEP YOU INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT. IF YOU STUDY AND SHOW UP TO CLASS YOU WILL DO FINE. GREAT TEACHER. LOVED HIS CLASS.
My favorite teacher by far. Show up, do your work. His tests come directly from the printable outlines he puts on blackboard. Just follow along with the outlines and take notes on them and you'll do great.
Even though I'm not a huge History buff, Prof McRee made each class fun and interesting. His outlines cover everything that will be on the test, and he even lets you have "cheat sheet"s during exams. You do need the txtbook, which he wrote himself, for the online quizzes. Has you do only 1 written assignment. Easy & fun class, highly recommended.
I took it online. I wouldn't say it was easy, but it's not hard. It's history, so there is a lot of reading involved.
All classes are lectures (No daily homework). One common assignment (article analysis), one essay, 3 total test including the final exam. Tests are hard and notes are not allowed. I took massive notes studied hard and still barely passed. The essays are the only thing that saved me. He doesn't provide much feedback if you ask him a question.
I TOOK HISTORY 1301 ON LINE AND I ONLY READ THE BOOK FOR THE TEST. HE WILL ANSWER THE EMAIL. is only 6 test and 10 quizzes 2 papers. but is not final test. is 50 questions but you have 2 hr. i got B. you don't have to do any assignments or discussion board. and he post everything at the beginning of the semester.
I absolutely hate history and he got me very interested in it. If you come to class and at least listen you should make a B. If you take notes along with his handouts you will make an A. He has good stories and his tests aren't hard. I took him again for 1302. He does give extra credit (usually by attending black history month speech etc.)
If you email him professionally, he will reply. Test are tough to answer bc it is very detailed in each questions, although it is multiple choice. The quizzes are easy, but you must prepare efficiently reading the book. I received a fair grade for 100 percent hard work! Good luck if you plan to take this class online!
Took this class online and it was super easy. He put everything up on blackboard right when the semester started. He wrote a book and wants you to buy it to take weekly quizzes on it. Then there are chapter exams which have 50 questions, fairly easy on those.
McRee was interesting, Took him for a Summer Mini, He was very talkative tended to get off topic but his tests were pretty easy if you paid attention to his lecture, he allowed us to use index cards which was nice if you took advantage and used the space wisely. His book is required reading material due to having a test for every chapter.
Professor Mcree is a cool guy. I enjoy history class and he makes his lectures interesting and has a lot of cool side facts. Textbook is barely needed unless you miss a lecture. Take good notes and just study those and you'll do fine on his tests.
you don't need a text book. as long as you take good notes youll pass the test
I never was interested or cared for History. In high school and jr. high it was always a struggle to pass. Mr. McRee has changed my whole perspective on History and how important it is in our everyday life's, as well as how it is all around us. I took him for both Hist 1301 and 1302.
Gives the layout at the beginning of the semester and lets you work ahead. You can finish the class as fast as you want.
He tests really hard.
Professor McRee is a outstanding Professor. If you listen to him you will pass with ease. Take notes. He allows a hand written flash card during test. He will make you read a book he wrote; its a good read if you interested in the civil war. Will be taking him again. Highly recommended.
Never use the textbook or the access code in his class. He gives you the handouts or you print it out from his page. As long as you study handouts you should get a B and he lets you use index cards to write down any notes used DURING test sometimes . Hes not difficult and always helps you when you ask. Just take good notes and never skip.
I took him online. he didn't give us anything to study for the tests so you have to have the book. this made the tests difficult for me. There was a lot of tests and quizzes but he gives you everything up front. One project that involves watching a history movie and writing a paper over it. and a common assignment. gives EC. i would take him again.
McRee is real knowledgable on what he teaches. He is very long winded and gets off topic quite a lot. If you have difficulty with taking test, then McRee isn't for you. It's percentage on test are higher then most teachers here at San Jac. Even if you make a's on all the assignments but fail his 3 exams you will fail his class.
I had the worst experience with this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He NEVER enters grades until the end of the semester, like he ignores his online classes. He gives you absolutely nothing to study for the tests. I read the chapters, took notes and still couldn't find the majority of the answers on the tests. He is extremely unclear on his "project".
GREAT lectures! Gets off topic often. Prepare to do lots of reading on your own. Didn't give feedback when asked for it & doesn't seem to care too much about student success. Offers 2 chances of extra credit for 5 points each. Mostly answers emails with 1 word responses. I worked my butt off for an A but received a B+ instead. TOUGH grader!
His "reviews" are NOTHING like what his tests are. DON'T EVEN BOTHER READING THE TEXTBOOK. I've read the book three times for each section and I still failed! If you care about your GPA, do not take him!
I took this course this past semester n dropped. The tests are hard, 3 tests worth 20% each. He doesn't take time out to help you w/ anything. On top of reading the textbook, u have a secondary book with wkly quizzes . He goes off topic alot. You will have 2 papers. Doesn't help you at all. gives 2 extra credit assignments worth 5pts each.
If you struggle with anxiety, get worked up easily, struggle in test taking, do not take Professor McRee. He is a tough grader, is not helpful at all, and he does not respond to emails. One thing that I did learn is to really discipline myself when it came to studying. I went to friends and classmates for help because he is no help!
I dropped his 5-week mini in the first week because his directions were scattered & I emailed him w/ a lot of questions & he replied w/ a quick response that did not help me. Even w/ the textbook reading, he makes you BUY HIS BOOK & quiz w/ that & the textbook. Paul is forgetting that this is a community college & his $80/$40 book isnt worth it.
He gets of topic way to much and does not give a review for tests.
This is honestly the most stressful class that I took this semester because of the problems with everything in this class. I emailed professor McRee about issues that I had during many of the assignments and test; but he would not reply back to emails and that is really frustrating and stressful teachers don't help the students! DO NOT TAKE...
Handouts are on BB. As long as you study the handouts you should get at least a B. He sometimes lets you use index cards to write down any notes used during a test. Gets off topic often. 3 exams, 10 reading quizzes, 1 common assignment (article analysis), and 1 movie-historical analysis.
Mr. McRee is a very good lecturer and is very insightful. I really enjoyed his class, but I did not like his song analysis papers, because I never understood what he wanted. I still enjoyed his class though very much and would take him again if I could.
My friend recommended this class for me because of my busy schedule and I just finished the 5 week online class and passed easily. The work is manageable; 6-40 question exams, 5 short answer quizzes, and two essays.
Professor McRee make History interesting and relatable! I rearranged my entire schedule to be able to take his HIST 1302 class the following semester (as he only offered 1)
DEVIATE FROM THE TOPIC ALL THE TIME AND PREPARE TO LEARN BY YOURSELF. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TO CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR.
I took Professor McRee online and absolutely loved it. He's a very prompt grader and sends messages to remind students about certain due dates. He is also quick to respond to e-mails.
Took Prof. McRee for a winter mini. Great class, actually learned some things. He does lecture a lot and keeps you til the last minute. Would def take him again if I needed another hist.
Great proffesor! He take an anthropological view in his lectures and is rather entertaining to listen to
You really need to listen to his lectures and take lots of notes because their are no power-points, or test reviews. Some of his lectures were very entertaining, but a lot were hard to pay attention to.
I took Professor McRee's History 1301 class and admired his teaching style so much I decided to take his follow up 1302 class the next semester. From experience, I can say his classes are to the point and entertaining. Lecture begins right on the dot & ends when scheduled. As long as you attend, pay attention and take notes, you'll pass with ease!
If you want a great professor that gives clear lecture and gives examples for you to relate topic with, take Mcree. Hes hilarious, not a tough grader at all, test are easy as long as you take good notes and study well, no tricky questions, do the quizes on time they will help your grade. 2 papers, 3 tests final is the third. Final is new material.
Mr. McRee managed to take a mandatory class like History 1301 into one of my favorite classes of the entire year. He might get off topic a lot and drags on for a little bit too long, but he always sticks to the outline and discusses everything you need to know in a way that will always keep you interested.
Couldnt wait till I was done with this class LITERALLY!! Was awwwwwfffull and soooooo rude when replying to emails !!!! HATED THIS CLASS!
Terrible!!! Dont take him, so rude when he answers emails!!! Took it for the summer and hated it
I chose to take professor mcgree because his ratings werent too bad on here but taking him is a whole different story. He is a very tough grader and very slow at grading papers. He gets off subject more than three times each class to talk about his experiences and throws a fit if you dont pay attention in class. Like literally throws a fit
Gives great lectures you can really understand and follow.
Professor McRee is a very hard grader, his online quizzes are confusing and the answers are unclear in the readings he gives you. I asked for extra credit and he was very rude about it. I feel like he doesn't work with his students at all. He is strictly by the books.
Professor McRee would literally respond one word to any questions I had during the semester. I finally just gave up on asking questions because they would not be answered anyways. He takes forever to grade papers as well so you really don't know how you are doing in this class until he decides to do some grading. I would not recommend!
you will not regret taking McRee, he is hilarious, a fair teacher and honestly all he wants is his students to succeed. he gets off topic a lot while in lecture but it makes up.
He's a cool guy, but prof, not the same story. Lectures are a given, pay very close attention and you might get 80 percent on his test. Not alot of work to average out your grades. Which makes it tough. Can get upset very quickly. Miss a class and you'll get a B. Dont procrastinate on studying.
McRee is the absolute best. His class isnt assignment heavy and he posts everything early so you can do things on your time. Hes super helpful. A lot of lecturing but its easy to take notes and follow. Hes a great professor and shares good information. Fair grader. Would totally take his class again
McRee was a very passionate lecturer but he gets off topic. He gives reviews specific to the test and you dont really need to read the textbook. Hes very particular about what is a good paper or not, but he doesnt give a clear outline of what he expects either.
His lectures are fantastic! Really keeps you engaged. My only problems are because the lectures are so fascinating I listen to him that I forget to write down his lectures. (He has no power points, no notes) You are to basically write everything he says. His test are Hard because there are 25 multiple choice and rest short essay (50% of exam).
It was my first online class and I didnt like it at all at the beginning it was not bad but he doesnt explain good at all his instructions are off topic and not obvious I dropped the class in the third week Because you need to learn by yourself and the explanation doesnt help you at all dont take him if you want a good GPA
Goes off topic often, waits until last minute to grade, doesnt respond to emails quickly, BUT amazing, enthusiastic/funny lectures that are very easy to follow, makes history interesting so I learned a lot. 50% of tests are written essays. Write good notes of lectures, utilize the handouts he gives out, study and you should do fine on tests.
Take notes, then weed through your notes. McRee is very lecture heavy. He graded papers in a timely manner. He was a fair grader just make sure you know names, places, ect. No pop quizzes. I did not find his class difficult you just need to kuup up with your notes. Follow the outline and you will be fine
"3 Week Mini Online" Although I got an A it was because I literally aced every exam. This professor is the pickiest grader when it comes to Essays. I have never gotten anything lower than a A on an essay and this guy gave me a 70. I barely got an A from acing every exam, however beware of his Essay grading. There's two essays in this course.
I had Professor McRee online, and the class was pretty simple. The notes and resources were quite lengthy, though. He did, however, only assign one assignment per week, be it an essay, test, or quiz. He was a very strict grader when grading essays, but he also allowed make-up work and gave corrections and recommendations to get an "A"
Took him for a 5 week summer course. There are 3 exams, in total worth 45% of your final grade. If you do not read the material or watch the lectures, you won't pass. Quizlet was a no go option for any of the exams or tests. He is slow to reply to emails. Not the worst professor, but I would not take him again.
This professor takes forever to reply email's considering this is an online class hard to reach to him during school hours. He is a strict grader and does not provide clear feedback on essays/test's. Do not take him unless you are prepared for his strict grading. His feedback for grading is "did not do what was asked to do".
I just took his 5 week mini course and it was great. he gives awesome lectures, keeps it interesting!! he gives out 3 lecture exams, 5 quizzes and 2 essays. you do have to pay attention and make notes to pass the exams, its fairly easy as long as you dedicate your time and actually take notes. def recommend y'all to take this class!
Took him in class for HIST 1301 & his lectures were AWESOME so I took him again for HIST 1302 online. Always has been a tough test grader, almost as if his test questions were made for you to fail. TONS of reading so make sure you set aside lots of time. In class is easier than online. I work my butt off & emailed him a lot. He bumped my grade up.
Don't bother reading the textbook. Listen to his lectures, take detailed notes, and take your time on the tests. The quizzes are easy, but the tests were a little tricky. Be respectful in your emails, and he will help you out when you accidentally start the wrong test.
5 Document quizzes that are word for word, 1 major essay and another small essay. The exams are easy if you take notes from what he says. Textbook does not help because the tests are based on what he says during lectures. It is best to record his lectures if he does not already record them for you (he did for me, which helped). Pretty laid back.
Great professor! Tests are really easy as long as you pay attention to the lecture/take notes. There is a free online textbook for this class, but you'll only need it if you want clarification on something. His lecture style is great for auditory learners and he explains everything really well. I liked his class so much I'm taking him for 1302
I honestly love Professor McRee if you see any bad reviews do not even pay attention to them they probably did not do the work. He is a very caring teacher and the work is really easy because it comes straight from the book. I highly recommend taking his class. He also gives extra credit.
Graded by multiple research papers and tests. Very few homework pieces on a weekly basis. Class is almost, if not always lecture based. You will never get out of class early. There are no powerpoints or anything to take notes for if you miss class. He is however, a fantastic professor who tries to give every lecture life, Very caring and fun class.
He's very strict and slow on grading but doesn't give feedback so you don't know that you did wrong. Theres a signature assignment & you can submit it twice if you don't like your first grade but he never graded the first one so I got a 50/100 as the final grade. Would've done better if i'd known what I did wrong the first time.
Easy grader on papers and is clear on what's on exams. Follow outlines to take notes and you should be golden. Need to attend class for lectures since he doesn't post them but he keeps it interesting. 3 exams 2 papers(that aren't hard) 5 small quizzes is it and I took him during a Sumer mini and never found the workload to be too much. Very solid.
Great lectures. Gave good insight and figurative language to tough concepts to understand. easy grader. clear simple and to the point. great class!
His lectures are entertaining. His lectures are more like stories and it keeps you entertained. He is very knowledgeable and talks about the events and people as if he was really there or knew them personally. He is an easy grader. His family has an interesting history and he wrote books. Definitely take this class.
Very knowledgeable on history and makes his lectures super interesting! really enjoyed him this semester.
I took professor McRee for hist 1301 in the 2021 fall semester and I can conclude that he is a good professor, he is steady and very clear. In the class there was 4 exams, around 5 quizzes and the rest being assignments.
I took this class in the spring of 2019 and I still believe he is the best professor I've ever had. He isn't the kind of professor to read off of a PowerPoint, he actually knows and cares about what he teaches. Lectures were fun and very insightful. I learned more about true history in this class than I think I ever will. I highly recommend.
Professor McRee was one of the best professors I have ever had. He is super clear about the way he grades and as long as you prove you understand what his lectures were about he gives you 100s. Pay attention to his lectures because they are full of information that he actually makes interesting. I took him for 1031 and 1302 and enjoyed his class.
This Prof is absolutely amazing! His lectures were very interesting, he would talk off on another subject but it was always interesting to listen to. He grades exactly how he says he grades, super easy assignments. One of my more friendliest professors and very clear on what he expects from his students.
Professor McRee was definitely one of my favorites and I would definitely take his class again. He was very helpful and was always willing to help us out.
Awesome professor with great lectures. Assignments are all open from the beginning and a very good calendar is given with due dates so we can basically go at our own pace if we wanted to. Gives good feedback on papers.Everything he teachers will be on the test and you would not see something he has not thought yet on exams.
TAKE HIS CLASS!! He's super nice and provides videos with clear instructions for each essay. Gives really good feedback and gives you a chance to submit your essays a second time to get a higher grade. Assignments were pretty easy and straightforward. I loved his class and would recommend it to anybody looking for a stress free online history class
Amazing lecture. He explains American history extremely well and I find many of the stories very interesting. The exams are 25 questions and 1 small essay but it is very easy!
Really cool professor, kept class interesting and the test aren't bad. 10/10 !
Took Professor McRee's 5-week course, not my favorite, but he was understanding. Tests were all from the textbook, so skipping readings made exams tough. Essays graded leniently though. Okay experience, got an A, but not top pick for stress-free courses.
Very great lectures lots of extra credit opportunities. Very nice and laid back teacher.
I was fortunate to get Professor McRee in both 1301 and 1302. He is understanding when things happen (funeral), he is a fair grader, and the criteria is easily understood where if you do the work, you will get the grade. The quizzes and exams are easy if you actually read the required reading. He also allows for extra credit opportunities.
This professor was literally the best professor I have ever had he is a little strict with somethings but in reality if you pay attention in class and participate in questions he ask you will be fine. His lectures are the best it may seem long but they fly by so fast the way he keeps you so interested in history he is also very funny.
Best history professor PERIOD! You can tell he really enjoys talking about history. He will break it down for you and try to make you feel what was going on during that time period so you can really understand it. Hes a great story teller and super funny. There is a few quizzes, two essays, and some exams. 10/10 recommend
Professor McRee is a great professor! The way he narrates history is intriguing and engaging! I will say though the essays were a bit challenging and you need to think outside the box, especially the song assignment. Overall, I would recommend taking him even if you think US history is boring!
Professor McRee is an engaging lecturer who brings history to life. While the class has a few assessments, the material is well-structured. Unstuckstudy ai was a game-changer for studying - highly recommended!
Great professor! Very knowledgeable, fun, and engaging! Breaks everything down for assignments so that you have clear directions on what he is asking you to do. Selects articles, speeches, etc. that are not overwhelmingly long and boring. I am actually enjoying and learning history!!
Professor McRee was amazing!! He makes his lectures interesting; you can truly tell he cares about his students. He does offer extra credit. The tests aren't difficult, but you have to write a short essay about a topic from the unit(not hard). The interview assignment is challenging, but he gives you enough time to finish.
Do the work, and you will pass, no midterms. Syllabus was very easy.
I had him for my first semester in college and was so pleased! His lectures were riveting, he really cares about what he does, and teaches history in a very passionate and relatable way- I loved his personal anecdotes each class. His tests were simple if you paid attention to lectures, and he offered lots of assistance with writing assignments.
Prof. McRee is a very respectful and a great lecturer. If you need any help,he will explain something. He's descriptive,well-educated,and makes sure topics that he teaches are gone through fully. He has rarely any projects or essays or quizzes. He will give you long lectures, but they are all worth it. The tests are long, but all material was taught
This professor has a large ego and a somewhat off-putting vibe. The class itself wasn't hard, but I'd still recommend taking Professor Sullivan over him.
Amazing! I took his hybrid class, would 100% take him again. Easy course, two extra credit opportunities given. We were allowed a “cheat sheet” during exams. Final exam was extra credit.
