terrible man, very mean, doesnt care about his students.

Ok teacher. Nice guy. Good class.
Absolutely the best professor I ever had. A fun guy, he'll do anything to help you out.
He is the funniest man ever!!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
nice guy - get organized...
Very helpful, always around for questions.
Awesome professor, great person. You must take his class!
Learned a lot of facts, but he also made me think. Demanding course, but still very rewarding. Best prof I've had at Muhlenberg!
very fair, cares about student learning
A nut, but amazing.
He's very confusing and even confuses himself when he's at the board. Plus, the grade you get in the beginning is the grade you get for the rest of the year. I hate how he favors certain people and no matter what they write on the exams they get right.
gets off track a bit sometimes, but a good teacher. PAY ATTENTION TO HIS NOTES
I didn't do well o hte first test, but after talking with him I ended up with an A- for the course. He was very busy, always around, and helped when he could. Simply great!
Dr. Meier is awesome! I had to work hard in his class, but it was worth his crazy lectures
Knows his stuff; entusiastic, enjoyable lectures.
Has a tendency to wander in class, but is quite amazing if you can stick with it.
best class I took at muhlenberg. great prep for med school. spent hours talking to me outside of class about bio and whatever was on my mind. great teacher, wonderful person
This guy is known for being easy. never went to class, still got an A
good professor cares about his students and passionate about what he teaches. Gave essay exams that took hours to complete, but gave us as much time as we needed to finish
I guess there will always be whiners! I found his course challenging but not impossible. The tests required thinking and not just regurgitation.
He is such an awesome guy! He always kept us amused with stories. Class is difficult and the exam were rediculously long but it is such a great class
he was wonderful; always helpful and willing to listen and offer advice about whatever was on my mind. vert patient no matter how busy he was. Thanks ptm!
Class was both difficult (but not too hard) and fun. he was hard to find sometimes outside of class, but once found, he would spend as much time as necessary to go over course material. Always enthusiastic in class.
Dr. Meier is hysterical. He goes off on these tangents that have somethign to do with nothing. But when he presents the core info you understand it. I suggest reading the chapter hes going to be lecturing on, before you go to class. I also like to bring my book to class and underline the words and sections he take lecture from there fore you know what to study frpm lecture
He's a really cool guy to sit and talk about science with, but his classes left me a little lost. He goes off on tangents all the time and then forgets where he was, so his lectures are kind of fragmented and hard to follow.
PTM is awesome!
He is a really nice guy, unfortunately that doesn't mean that he can effectively teach. Every lecture consisted of about 75% useless information and rambling so I had to rely heavily on the book. In his defense, he was fighting for his job the semester that I had him so he was VERY distracted.
Hes hillarious
Extremely confusing teacher, but provided you have a good textbook you will have fun in his class as he is a great person and will always make you laugh.
PTM IS THE BEST!!! People say that his lectures are hard to follow and that he rambles and goes off topic. However, if one actually pays attention to what he says, everything he mentions in class is in some way important. He teaches upper level biology courses...thus it shouldn't be a surprise that students have to rely heavily on the book.
I had ptm for three courses. Although I have had better lecturers, nobody else comes close to how available he was or cared as much about how we did in his class.
I only had him for one course, but I totally agree with the prevous comments. PTM was always here, and always willing to help, no matter how busy he was.
I had ptm for three courses. He was always helpful and understanding in and out of the class. I'll miss him!
I LOVE ptm. his tests are hard but you can do well if you work hard and he really cares about his class doing well. Heis totally willing to work with students and i actually enjoy his lectures! Take a class with him if you have the chance.
PTM is a gem in the biology department. His teaching style is somewhat unorthodox in that...he refuses to hold your hand in class. His lectures are brilliant, his expectations are fair, he is one of the most challenging profs on campus. Yet, he makes himself available to students at any time. He has given me the most enriching experience ever.
He?s a peach, he?s a dream, he?s the herpetologist on our team, and even though he?s not head of the department anymore which puts him number 2 in the depth chart he?ll always be number one in our heart. He?s ptm
His tests are hard, but he loves to say the word critters. He has tangent and will talk about things that don't really relate to class, but it is a fun class.
never would i have thought i would encounter a professor who cared so much about each individual student in such a large class size. PTM is a saint.
Lectures are very boring and often not related to material. His powerpoints are taken directly from the book and he reads directly from his slides during class. His exams are hard and it's nearly impossible to do well in his class, no matter how much you study. You must teach yourself all the material since it is not taught during class.
PTM is a wonderful professor. I don't understand how people do so poorly in his class. Yes you need to teach yourself the material...well..welcome to college. One can't spoon feed science in college. Especially not at Muhlenberg. His exams are fair, he goes way out of his way to help students. His lectures are inspirational. An overall great man!
PTM is a great professor. I have never had a teacher care as much as he did. He would hold extra review sessions twice a week at night to help go over material and prepare everyone for exams and knew everyone by name. He was not the best lecturer and would go off on tangents alot but he certainly knew his material, and was always willing to help.
Even though he goes off on so many random tangents, I loved his class! He's so willing to help you. He's very concerned about how well you do individually, considering there were so many of us in the class. I really just enjoyed going to lecture because he was so funny.
Although the class is very difficult Dr. Meier will do ANYTHING possible to help students. He tends to go off on random tangents frequently, but he is very humorous.
He has A LOT of respect for his students, though his tests are extremely hard. The tests cover an insane amount of material, and preparing for them isn't clear cut. He can ramble sometimes in lectures, but overall he goes through the material pretty well. Very friendly in and out of class. If you excel at Biology, take his classes.
General Physiology, Behavioral and physiological ecology, Research, Dr. Meier is the man, by far my favorite professor at Berg. He will do anything to help you succeed at muhlenberg as long as your serious in wanting to succeed. He is aweosome, so funny, runs marathons, loves to hang out and chat with students- good life perspectives. THE BEST
I think Dr. Meier has the most ratings on RMP than any other prof at 'Berg. This fact alone should demonstrate the connection he has with his students. Dr. Meier should teach all my classes!!!!
The tests are near impossible. We went very slowly the first 3/4 of the semester and then rushed to barely cram everything in in the last quarter. Not a very engaging lecturer except for his side stories, but he is incredibly helpful and wants us to succeed. He posted outlines of the material we needed to know for the last couple of chapters.
DR. MEIER IS THE GREATEST TEACHER AT MUHLENBERG. HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND CARES A LOT ABOUT HIS STUDENTS AS WELL AS THEIR PROGRESS THROUGHOUT COLLEGE. HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT ALL SUBJECTS HE TEACHES. AND HES A FUNNY LOVABLE GUY.
He comes off as a nice guy, but has a really big problem with sharing his opinion about his political views rather than staying on task in class. He can fall into these tangents and forget his train of thought. Overall, really tough tests but recitation isn't bad. Better off just skipping class and teaching it urself out of the book.
Dr. Meier is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher. He puts forth a Herculean effort to help his students. However, in lecture he tends to get off track and some students find him hard to follow. Overall, though, he is a good teacher with a passion for the subject.
I have never learned as much as I have in Dr. Meier's classes. I have taken three of his courses. He is an extremely caring, invested person and will help you out immensely. Additionally, Dr. Meier is passionate about his courses, and only requires that you put time and effort into assignments. Truly a gem of Berg.
Meier is an easy A/A- bio teacher in his courses when putting in some work. However, his disorganization, lack of attention to detail, and forgetfulness make him lack significant clarity. He tends not to finish the syllabus either. Though, he is probably one of the most helpful teachers in the department if you can get past his crypt manner.
Dr. Meier will no doubly go off on a tangent about something completely off-topic in a lecture. But he is one of the most knowledgeable, kind, and helpful teachers here. He will answer questions during lecture, and clarify uncertainty. His tests are confusing, but you have 2+ hours so it is doable. Make sure to read the txtbook. Would recommend.
He gets extremely off topic, so he ends up rushing at the end of the semester to attempt to catch up with the syllabus (and fails). He's much clearer 1on1 than he is in lecture, so if you're confused about something, just see him in his office. Tests are APPLICATION and not just straight memorization, so don't expect them to be a piece of cake.
He gave us a separate assignment in recitation(not connected to lecture at all)when recitation is meant to help clarify topics covered in lecture. He gets sidetracked and will talk about his granddaughter or frogs for half of the lecture. Our 1st class covered material for 10 of the 50min class. He is giving an 8 chpt test without teaching us much.
Meier is inherently a nice guy, but he goes way off topic in lecture and it feels like you're wasting your time going to class. His tests are difficult and barely covers the material in class. He goes on random tangents which would be funny if he actually got to the material that we needed to know for the tests. Wouldn't recommend.
Lectures and tests emphasized concepts rather than memorization, a change from high school and requiresd some adjustments to studying and learning. The pace of the class started off slowly but picked up later in hte semester. Grading was fair.
Dr. Meier is the best teacher I had at Muhlenberg. I had him in Bio 150 and upper level courses. His tests are difficult but doable. If you expect to just memorize facts, then choose another prof. He requires that you truly understand the information and his exams are all essays in the upper level courses. prepares you well for after graduation.
First science course in college and I loved it. Sometimes he went on tangents but they added to what was covered in lecture andor made lecture more enjoyable. He is very enthusiastic and knows what he is talking about!
I had meier for three classes and also did research with him. He was great in and out of class, always willing to chat about whatever. He was a wonderful teacher, mentor, and friend.
Professor Meier knows exactly what he is talking about and gives interesting examples if he is on topic. Exams were postponed and a lot of the material was rushed through quickly because of all of his tangents. Most of the time the class was off topic and that made it hard to learn, so some of the material had to be self taught.
Really awesome person. Can easily have in depth conversations with him, but one of the most difficult lecturers to follow and professors to have for a large class.
Really great dude. Very unique and interesting. Everyone that has him pretty much loves him. he epitomizes what muhlenberg is really about. His teaching style may not be best for all but he is truly a great human being and all of his students have a ton to learn from him.
In class, he was very good. But outside of class is where he excels. Always willing to help, always available. Extremely thoughtful and generous.
I had ptm for three courses, and I enjoyed all of them. He is a good teacher, but what makes him special was the time he spent with his students outside of the classroom. I just did a hike with him and nearly 100 students came. This says something about the respect that many students have for him both as a professor and as a person.
I had meier for 3 courses while I was at Muhlenberg. I'm currently in medical school, and his classes, especially physiology, prepared me well. Thanks ptm!
I learned more in his physiology course than any other college course that I have taken. I'm studying for the MCAT and get near perfect scores on the physiology sections without studying. Meier was very understanding with test conflicts, and was always helpful after class.. I hope to take his applied physiology course next year.
Dr. Meier is a great professor. He may go off on tangents but he is a good lecturer. If you demonstrate interest and visit during office hours he will make an effort to know you and you won't be another number.
Brilliant man, HORRIBLE teacher. He made it clear that he did not care about the material or his students. Much time was spent on unimportant tangents, his political viewpoints, and random outbursts with little provocation. Exams were difficult and nit-picky, and the recitation had nothing to do with the lecture portion. Thank god for the LA's
Dr. Meier is very hard to follow during lecture & often goes on tangents. Recitation has nothing to do with lecture. The tests are hard & take forever to finish. Prepare to study a lot because he will tell you what is "on the test", but never is it actually on the test. You will have to study 15 powerpoints w/ 60 slides each for every test!
This was the worst class I have taken, as well as the worst professor. His power points DO NOT explain things and either does he. He goes off on way too many tangents, which half of the time do not relate to our material in any way. The recitation part of the course had nothing to do with what we do in lecture. Drop his class while you can!!!
He's a great teacher. Clearly loves what he teaches and cares about his students. He is a bit quirky, but easy to talk to. Good class; enough said.
thank you dr. mier for everything: for the review class, practice tests, study guides, and especially for the trips to talks at Lehigh and birding, and the conversations outside of class. you're the greatest!
Dr. Meier is truly the most interesting professor that one could conceive of. I had him for Principles of Bio 1, and as strange as his teaching methods may be, if you are a good student and love the content then you will do fine. He is always accessible even outside of office hours and really cares about his students.
I had ptm my first semester at Muhlenberg and did not appreciate what he taught me then as much as I do now. It was a struggle then with the amount of material covered, but he made me a better student.
I had Paul for Biology 150 right now, he was awful. Please drop out if you have him, you won't regret it, and honestly, why is he even a professor here? He is a really awesome person, but sucks as a professor.
Meier pulls test questions from his lectures and it might not be on the powerpoint, it might be an anecdote he said in class. His test questions are difficult to read and comprehend. Expect to get a low grade, but just remember he does curve at the end of the semester.
He doesn't help you in or outside of class. He expects you to know everything and when you don't, he might call you stupid. In front of everyone. He mumbles and goes on tangents for nearly the entire class. It is basically a self-taught class. I would rather have taken an 8AM on Friday than have him for Bio. He's scattered brained.
Dr. Meier is a nice guy, but he is a horrible professor. His curve is extremely helpful. But if he actually taught, we wouldn't need such a generous curve. He is NOT accessible outside of class. Whenever me and a couple students would go see him, he would never be in his office. Do not take this class. You will NOT learn a thing.
Honestly, meier is the worst professor at berg, even other biology professors agreed that he has a tendency to talk about whatever he wants. He talks so quietly you cannot hear and lectures about things that are not on the test. When everyone fails the test, he still doesn't correlate that to the fact that he doesn't teach! He isn't there to help u
Dr. Meier is such a good professor! His class is extremely fun and he is genuinely a kind and helpful man. His tests definitely aren't easy, but if you put in the work you should do well. People who are giving him bad ratings probably did poorly in the class.
Favorite professor I've ever had. He makes a ton of time for students outside of class, all you have to do is come to his office (ask him during lecture what time he'll be there) and he will take as much time as you need to review the material. I had him for two classes and they were my favorite two classes at berg. Definitely take animal behavior!
Makes you purchase the textbook at the beginning of the year then later tells you nothing on the tests will be found in it and you must "think like me" when preparing for tests. DO NOT TAKE ANY BIO CLASS WITH MEIER!!!
Dr. Meier isnt no doubt the worst teacher Ive ever had in a course throughout my years of education. Firstly, he often wanders off during lectures. You will find that he is delusional and might just have the worst teaching style ever. His tests contain absurd questions and answer choices. You will have to teach yourself as he will not teach you.
Meier is the worst professor to teach a freshman bio. He is scatterbrained and goes on more tangents than actually talking about the course material. He made it clear that he didn't care about the course and it showed. If you tried to answer a question and was incorrect he would cal you out in front of the class for being stupid. HORRIBLE PROF
Reading some of the comments made by others, I wondered if they had taken the same course that I did. I also found some of the comments immature and mean spirited. The course was tough and Dr. Meier was demanding, but he always answered my questions and would meet with me late into the evening. I thought that he provided me a great introduction
Dr. Meier is amazing, very passionate about biology! The class was tough, but prepared me well for upper level science courses.
Looking forward to having Meier for a 3rd course. Had him for intro and physiology. He's tough, but fair and caring.
Back at'berg for alumni weekend! Hope to see ptm. I had him for BIO 150 and more. I'm in 2nd yr. of med school and I can now say without any doubt that he prepared me well .
