Paul is a great, new professor to ISU. His Geo 102 course is a great introduction course I to the world of earth sciences. His tests are fairly easy and based mostly off lectures and powerpoints (which he posts to his website). Attend lectures and labs and you will have no problem passing this class.
Paul is an incredible professor. He is knowlegable of his subject matter and wants his students to succeed. Print his notes off of his website before class and you'll do well in the class. He's really funny and has a lot of stories so I suggest going to class because you could miss out on extra credit and test hints.
Paul is a great professor. He knows what he's talking about, and the lectures are enjoyable enough. He tells stories & is funny. I didn't skip lecture a ton, and I wouldn't recommend it. There are random activities in class he uses as attendance. I took notes on the powerpoints he put on the website, but I'd also recommend printing the notes.
Surprisingly liked this class and did pretty well in it. Paul is funny but sometimes talks to fast and confuses everyone, so the powerpoints and notes he posts help a lot. The best part about this class was my lab TA Matt Rhoads, an amazing teacher and really helped us understand the material fully, always was available after to help, loved him.
Definitely had to work to get an A, overall a pretty cool dude. Try to go to every lab and make use of your TA's office hours
Paul was a great professor, and unfortunately had to leave halfway into the semester due to a family emergency. I would recommend this class to anyone looking to take an easy science gen-ed. You don't have to go to class but he is a great lecturer and makes class interesting.
paul is my favorite professor. I was devastated when he had to leave early first semester due to a family emergency. he is a great guy who always starts lecture off by shaking his students hands. he's very funny and approachable. he does talk really fast and skip through power points quickly, but it hasn't even been anything unmanageable. 10/10!!!
Paul was very funny and a good lecturer, even though I only had him for about half the semester, as he took a leave of absence due to family emergency. Because of that he said that he would curve the class's final grade because of the stress it must have put on us, even though he is the one that really had stress. This man never stops giving.
Awesome professor! Great lectures and stories, he really cares!
He is a great teacher, his lecture notes are posted on his website in advance so you don't have to attend lecture, he sticks to his grading scale and there is very little homework for the lecture. The labs are very well explained and has study session for lecture and lab exams. Even when he took leave he brought in a very capable professor.
Paul is easily one of the best professors ISU has to offer! Everyone always goes on about how Bill Shields was the best, but after having Paul and then Bill, due to Paul leaving halfway in bc of family emergency, I would much rather have Paul over Bill any day of the year! If you still need a science gen ed requirement filled, take this class!!
Ok, in general field camp was difficult. But if you are looking at this for a GEO 102 rating, TAKE THIS PROF. He is the best, super passionate about geology and just an all around great guy. Cannot recommend him enough.
Paul is awesome! He is really chill and he takes the time to try and get to know his students, even in a huge lecture hall with 300 people. Tests weren't bad if you studied a bit and he drops the lowest test grade including the final. Overall awesome teacher and he made Geology really fun!
Amazing.
Honestly I wanted to choose all of the good tags. Quite easily the best professor Ive had and has seriously made me consider the geology major. Hes been through some stuff but managers to always be smiling and put a smile on others faces. Also this should be convincing: HE HAS DOGS. Fr you can go to his office and play with DOGS.
I love Paul! He makes geology fun. Even though this course is hard!!! Make sure you study and go to class or else you will not pass. I highly recommend listening to his lectures & looking at his ppt while hes teaching it. He also talks very fast.
Paul's lectures are informative, interesting, and helpful. He is vary caring about his students and attempts to make personal connections with anyone who goes up and talks to him. The lab portion of this class is harder in the beginning (Identifying rocks) but it slowly gets easier over time (maps and topography). Luis is the best lab teacher.
Good guy but horrible teacher. Tests are way more indepth and harder than he makes them seem, doesnt give any study guide so you end up studying the wrong stuff, and has GAs teach labs but are pretty bad teachers except for the main guy.
Paul is a great teacher. If I could retake the class now knowing how to study I would have done a lot better. Tests are in-depth, which I was not used to. Labs are easy and worth big points. Attendance isn't mandatory but he likes to give pop quizzes on most Wednesdays (automatic 5/5). He has his dogs in his office for office hours. I will miss him
Tests are a lot harder than he prepares you for. No study guides, and its not always clear what you need to study. He says we dont need the textbook because everything is easy and he just skims through material. I once memorized every PowerPoint slide and got a D on the test which I didnt even think was possible.
Paul is an okay teacher. His tests are the worst thing on this planet because he doesn't give you any sort of study guide, just an idea what COULD be on the exam. He has random quizzes but you get full credit, but if you miss a day, then you're screwed. This class could have potential but its an intro class so...
Paul is very knowledgeable and makes his lectures entertaining, but he moves VERY quickly. Take notes or print out his lectures ahead of time then take notes on what he says in class. He has mini assignments in lecture but most of the class is based on 4 tests which are hard if you miss a lecture. He drops your lowest test score!!!!!
Paul Meister is the best prof at ISU no freakin doubt dude. I never had more fun in geo102 than I have in any class. Paul made me want to wake up every morning and go to school, and hes always in his office if you ever need anything (with his dogs). Take this class. Take this prof. Taste some rocks.
Best teacher I have ever had. His lectures are very funny and it was an easy class. As long as you attend lecture and lab it is an easy A.
Paul is great and gives interesting lectures. He often tells stories about weird experiences he had that make class more interesting. Gives pop quizzes about once a week but you'll get a 100 if you're there. Not the most interesting subject but GAs and Paul were accessible, helpful, and knowledgable. Make sure you study and go to the practice exams
Paul made lectures very interesting and is hilarious! He gives quizzes randomly in class that will boost your grade if you go to class because its automatic 100% if you turn it in. You have to try to get good grades but overall is a very interesting teacher and makes the class fun.
I took this class thinking it was going to be a boring Science class, but once Paul started talking on the first day he changed my mind about the class. It turned out to be probably my favorite class the whole semester. He is a really great guy who truly cares about the students. Plus he has two cute dogs that he brings and walks around campus with
Paul is a fantastic teacher. He gives lots of hints during lecture and always encourages people to ask questions. He has tons of funny and interesting stories. Pail is by far one of my favorite professors.
This is not an easy A!! I repeat this is not an easy A. This was mediocre B for me and my friends did worse. Just know that because I thought it was an easy A.
Attendance isnt required but there are random quizzes (what matters is that you turn something in, not that youre right) for 5 points usually twice a week. PowerPoint and notes are posted online, but he gives out answers and hints during lecture for exams. Theres 5 exams, lowest one is dropped, no cumulative final. Dont buy the textbook.
Paul is an amazing professor
Paul is most definitely one of the greatest professors at ISU. Hes literally a god and is super funny! This semester I never would have thought geology would be interesting but he makes it to be. Make sure to show up to classes because theres random attendance quizzes but everything is a breeze. Just buy the lab manual NOT the textbook.
Paul was a absolutely wonderful professor. He usually starts off class with a story that gets the class engaged. The way that he describes geology makes it interesting. If you show up to lecture is literally tells you what will be on the exam and what the EC questions are. You don't have to take the final if you are happy with your grade.
Paul is a really great guy and made this class easier. THIS IS NOT AN EASY A, he tells you day 1 that this is not an easy A, it's based on the effort that you put in. He is a great storyteller and really engages with us. Don't buy the textbook, all the test material is in the lecture. SHOW UP. There are always points to get from going to lecture.
Would highly recommend Paul, he is very approachable and tries his best to help students.
Paul was super supportive of school and personal topics outside of class. He kept lectures interesting with a good sense of humor and relevant anecdotes. If you go to class you'll know exactly what's going to be on the exams and be given plenty of opportunities for extra credit..
I took GEO 102 with Paul and also did my Honors Project with him too. Awesome guy! Loved lectures because he kept them entertaining by telling stories and jokes. You can tell he loves the subject and also his students. The Rock Wizards (TAs) and Paul are always there if you ever need help outside of class too! Plus the labs were interesting too!
Paul is great. If you're interested in Geology you'll love this class. He wants all of his students to do great. You don't need the textbook just a lab manual. He has attendance quizzes that you get 100% on if you show up. The labs can be confusing if you slack off and get behind. Paul also does his best to make lectures interesting.
I LOVE PAUL! He is so funny and gives such good lectures. He realizes rocks can be boring to most people so he tries to make lectures more fun. He calls his TAs Rock Wizards and clearly cares for his students as he offered 41 extra credits points this semester that weren't on tests. Tests are easy, labs are fast and easy too, easy to get a high A.
I personally did not like him. He went way too fast for no reason and was lowkey passive aggressive. I still ended with an A, i can tell he is passionate about geology, however i feel like the way he taught was annoying and mainly just powerpoints that he skips over a lot. However go to lecture because he always gives extra credit especially on Fri
Paul is really nice and makes the lectures interesting. Show up to class because he'll tell you what's on the test and he'll tell you the extra credit questions that will be on the test. There are random days where he'll ask you to answer a question on a sheet of paper and turn it in at the end of class, it's for completion for 5 points.
Paul Meister is who you want as a professor. I came into his class a little unsure of what to expect. Right off the bat, he made lectures enjoyable, which gave me even more of a reason to show up to class. I thought the class was fun to be in and the topics we covered were cool, partly because of Paul's personality and attitude.
I genuinely loved going to his classes. Since we are online rn, we get to see his cats sometimes. He's pretty funny and tells us cool stories and he had some people come into class and talk about what they do and that was fun. I would 100% take another class with him again.
I liked Paul as a person and he was really funny and very passionate about geology. I still personally struggled in the class because I don't know anything about geology, but still ended up with an A. You don't have to do much in the class besides go to lectures and do your labs, but that's about it.
Very awesome class. I love it. I feel I learned about the world related to geology.
Paul is a wonerful teacher. As long as you attend lectures and pay attention you will pass with flying colors. Easily the best prof I've ever had at ISU
amazing professor. really engaged in his students. very nice and super lenient when it comes to the homework and labs. I would definitely recommend Paul if you are planning to take one of his classes.
Paul is an amazing professor, he was always really funny and the best part he dropped the lowest test grade so if you did good all semester you didn't necessarily have to take the final. absolutely loved his morning lectures, wish it was in person though!
This class was so fun, and I showed up every time even though it was a 9 am zoom. He showed us his cats! You definitely had to show up to class, but the lectures were interesting and he answered all the questions. I do wish I was able to take this in person.
He doesnt make the lectures boring to listen to, if you take notes youll do good on the exams.
I don't think I've seen someone as passionate about the subject of geology as Professor Meister; he's a total nerd for it. But that's a good thing! He cares about the students just as much (if not more) than the subject matter and is always very witty and welcoming during lectures.
Paul is amazing!! Hes super passionate about geology and he cares about his students. His class is fairly simple: attend lectures and labs, do the labs, and take notes on lectures and you will pass. If you plan on taking GEO 102 at ISU, take it with Paul!!
Paul was amazing! This class rocked. Super fun and enthusiastic teacher about a class that studies rocks. Its a shame I didnt have him in person but nonetheless, if you want to learn about rocks and the earth, this is the guy for you! The A want that hard to get either. Take good notes, highlight things, and you should be able to get it!
Makes an otherwise boring class for most engaging and educational.
Paul is just an amazing professor, and motivates his students to learn by making his lectures fun. The work is not too hard, just show up to class, and go to your lab and you will be just fine.
WE LOVE PAUL
Paul is the best. A professor who loves what he does, and really cares about his students. Always available for help outside of class and he is hilarious
Paul is great! All the exams are online and they weren't that tricky. His lectures are interesting, even if they are about rocks. He took random attendance for 5 points. All labs were participation points.
Paul is a great guy. There are 5 tests and he drops the lowest, so if you're happy with your first 4 you don't have to take the final. Tons of extra credit. I was showing up just for him at the end; he's an attentive guy who likes to connect with students and loves his job. Show up and study a bit and you'll do just fine on tests.
Easily the best professor I've ever had at ISU! Paul made the class material fun and engaging, and he really worked towards getting to know his students, even though its a packed GenEd class. He honestly almost made me a Geo major!
Paul is a stand up guy. He makes rocks as interesting to learn about as it gets. If you talk to him after class, sit front row, or go to his office hours and get to know him, he cares about his students a lot and appreciates their efforts. Definitely go to lecture because theres no textbook. He also shares some really cool stories during class
I hate science but Paul really helped me get this science gen ed out of the way Geo 102- highly recommend if you dont like science because Paul makes it fun and interesting!
Some profs are all learning and no fun; some profs are all fun and no learning. Paul is the best of both. I took a GenEd Geo course under him, but absolutely did NOT care about rocks. I wanted my A, I wanted my science credit, and I wanted to move on. I got all of that plus a good time, truly relevant information, and a professor that cared for me.
Paul is by far the best instructor I have had during my time at Illinois State. He keeps lectures interesting so you dont find yourself dozing off. He is super accommodating and you can tell he really cares about his students and what he does.
Really cool professor makes lectures not so boring! easy class and labs as well!!
Paul was a great teacher who makes a boring subject into a pretty good class. He really cares about his students. The only downside to him would be that his tests can be a little difficult, but if you go to class and study you'll be fine.
Paul is a super nice guy and a great professor. He has a passion for geology and makes lectures fun and engaging. He is highly respected in the geology department. The labs are not very challenging, but the tests are pretty difficult. As long as you go to class and study, they should be fairly easy.
Paul always made the class so much fun. He was so nice and funny. He was a fair grader and he was one of the best profs I have had so far. This class was one that I was dreading when I signed up for it but he made it fun. If you show up to class & lab & pay attention you shouldn't get lower than a B. also show up to class fridays bc u could get ec.
he is the BEST. You will love this class. Showing up isn't mandatory but he gives extra credit a lot to those who do. Labs are run by TA's so it can go either way with those. Not a lot of work. Didn't study because I went to lectures and all the information given was easy to understand if I actually listened.
He's really good- interesting lectures that cover direct material on the exams. He really cares about attendance and you're generally graded on it at the end of the semester. He likes to randomly give extra credit to people that show up on a given day, so make sure you're attending regularly.
Paul is amazing. He is so funny and flexible as far as grading/making accommodations. Also, the hottest professor at ISU, such a handsome face to look at, so show up to class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but show up or you might miss out on extra credit opportunities. Every single lecture is engaging, and the class is fun. Highly recommend.
I live an hour away so driving to school was always kind of a drag on my morale. Going to Pauls' class made up for it, the man was always fun to listen to and clearly cared about the well-being of his students. As an IT student, I won't lie I really didn't care for the subject, but Paul made it fun and engaging and now I sorta care. 10/10 prof.
Paul made this class 10 times more interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory but helps and he often gives extra credit when people aren't there. Only 4 tests and 1 paperand the lowest is dropped. Labs are easy if you pay attention and almost never any homework. Overall, great class and teacher. Would definitely recommend for a science gen ed class.
Geo has never been an interest of mine, but prof Meister made the class fun to attend. All of the tests are online and lab TA's are amazing!! He really cares about his students and the subject! Extra Credit is offered as well!! Take him!! Best Geo prof at ISU!!
THe best professor ever!
Paul is the best professor I had at Illinois State, and makes geology super interesting to learn about. Super easy class to get an A in, just go to lectures and you'll be good. Super personable guy as well, can't recommend enough.
I literally had this professor a year ago and I still talk about how great his class was. If you need a science credit this is where it's at
Goated Professor, the best professor here. Legendary lectures
Paul is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He is absolutely hilarious and he passes out candy probably twice a week. You do get 5 points a day for attending class but GO ON FRIDAYS he gives out extra credit! I would take this class again if I could
PAUL IS AMAZING! I cannot stand geology content, but Paul made the class worth it! Take GEO102 if you're like me and need an easy way to knock out a science credit. Paul has the vibes of a cool grill uncle who you'd wanna have a beer with. He got SUPER excited about river sediment, like a little kid in a candy store:)
Paul is so nice an accommodating. If you talk to him and are honest about missing stuff 99% of the time he'll work with you help you. Also you can trade him rocks for fossils
Awesome lecturer. I couldn't give two craps about any science but he made the class enjoyable. Easy course if you pay attention.
Paul is hands down the best professor at ISU! He gives so much extra credit and time to earn points. Tests are never that hard as long as you go to class! Labs were a little tough at times, but Paul is such a great professor it makes up for labs! This is 100% a great class to take for a GEN ED!!!
Super chill guy, and is genuinely passionate about his subject. He makes the material as interesting and interactive as he can, and always engages with the students, even when there's tons of us. Tests aren't too bad, just re read course notes and SHOW UP to lecture. Thought I would hate this course and actually ended up liking it! Highly recommend
Made geology super interesting and he made plenty of ways for you to improve your grade through attending extra credit lectures. Super accessible outside of class time and overall, a great guy!
Such a hilarious dude. Gave us so many EC opportunities it was kinda insane. Test material can be a bit tricky but just go to the lecture and you'll be ok. He was also super helpful outside of class. A great teacher for every type of learner. 11/10.
Super fun guy and entertaining but informative lectures.
Paul was a very good professor. As someone who's not really into science, he made Geology a super fun course to learn. Tried making the class enjoyable for everyone, so the lectures were rarely boring. Gives out extra credit and understands his students very well. Tests are online and are relatively easy as long as you go to class. No final either.
Labs are easy, homework is easy, but in my opinion, the online exams are really difficult. He talks so fast, and barely puts any information on the slides to look back on, so if you don't understand in class you won't be able to teach yourself it. I just don't like his teaching style, too conversational which makes it unclear what to take notes on
I really like Paul. Hes a really good dude and he genuinely cares about everyone in his classes. Assignments, labs, and exams are easy, you just have to show up and want it.
Paul is a great prof. He is super passionate about GEO and is really nice. Class is really easy because all of the test are online but if you have no idea what you're doing bc you don't go to lecture test WILL be tight on time. Only struggle I had was that and the Labs can be long if you don't have anyone who knows what you're doing. 10/10
I loved Paul he was always positive and funny during lectures and he's truly passionate about geology so it made lecture more understandable. most of this course work is in the lab, and the exams are all online and open note so it's an easy class.
Overall a pretty chill class. Don't necessarily need to show up to class. The labs kind of suck. Would recommend for a gen ed compared to the other options.
Paul is amazing if you are taking GEO 102, take him. His lectures arent that important to attend too. But the tests are pretty easy if you know the material
He is funny, and truly cares about what he does. Most of his lectures are mainly photos, so you need to go to lectures to understand what is going on. When you are confused he is very helpful in office hours. He explains everything well, and goes into lots of detail.
Paul is so great. His lectures are fun and he knows how to keep everyone entertained and paying attention. The lab was also super easy for this course. The final for this course is the last unit exam, its online. Lowest exam score gets dropped. Gives extra credit opportunities. Take Paul if you can.
While this class was challenging at times, Paul always made it fun. He moved at a quick pace but answered all questions. My advice is to take very detailed notes to look back on before taking the exams. There is no final, it's just a fifth exam that's optional if you're happy with your grade. Take this class for a natural science if you can!
Absolutely take geology with Paul. I am not a science person, but he made this class very relevant and entertaining to students. He's very easy to get in contact with, and will help if you ever have an issue. There's 5 tests, and the lowest gets dropped and lots of extra credit opportunities. Lecture is not mandatory, but attend, it's worth it!
This class is the kind of class you would want to attend on a Friday morning. He always made things interesting and included beautiful pictures. There are a lot of tests, but that was okay. This class does meet 4 times a week though (with lab) which can be a lot sometimes but it was still enjoyable.
Paul was so fun and I was so happy to have him for this course. I didn't enjoy the content but he made it interesting. Attend the labs always. Just go to the lectures and pay attention, you'll be better off in the end.
As long as you show up and get your work done, you'll get along just fine. His lectures are so funny, and he is very down to earth. I recommend Paul to anyone! He offers extra credit which is great but won't save your grade if you don't even try to get a good grade. SHOW UP TO LABS!!!
Paul is so funny and entertaining and always keeps the class engaged. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go to lecture as much as you can in order to do well on the tests. The tests were always online and usually consist of a bunch of multiple choice questions and a few essay/short response questions. I definitely recommend this class!
If you have to take this class, TAKE IT WITH PAUL!! Tests are online and you do not have to come to class to take them. With that being said, if you want to get the information for the tests you need to come to the lecture. If you come he gives you some of the test questions Overall, if you put effort into it you will get an A.
be prepared to not understand anything on the tests. the exam is never what u learned in class, even my ta for the semester agreed to that. paul himself is a great guy and truly cares so much. he's funny and engaging which is great, but he never teaches what's actually on the exam.
Paul was easily one of my favorite teachers I took this semester. When I was unable to attend class due to sickness, he was so helpful and kind. I went into his office hours every day for a week and he took his time to help me understand the content I missed and always made sure I was doing okay. His lectures were fun and engaging. Awesome guy.
Favorite professor so far, lecture was hilarious and always entertaining. Exams were straightforward from the lectures and they were online. He genuinely loves his job and you can tell.
Paul is very charismatic and has great lectures. It's important to go to lecture to get info because the slideshows that are posted really only have pictures. The exams are open note and the lowest score gets dropped at the end. There is lab once a week which can be a little hard but nothing unmanageable. If you take this class, take it with Paul!
Paul was the highlight of my first semester at college. I had no interest in geology at the beginning of the semester, but he speaks with such passion that I couldn't help but learn about glaciers and stuff. I'd recommend sitting front row so you can talk to him. He's an amazing prof, but even funnier if you get to know him. Best gen-ed no debate.
Paul is a great professor. He is very passionate about geology, and this makes lectures enjoyable. As long as you show up, you will do good. I would recommend sitting front row because he loves talking to students. Some questions on the test are not talked about in lectures, but stay late and ask questions to make sure you understand the content.
I had SO much fun in Geology with Paul. He is hilarious & fantastic at teaching. I always looked forward to his lectures in the morning. If you're confused with any material, he's happy to walk you through questions after class or in office hours. He makes it known that he cares about your learning, which is awesome. Best professor so far!
Exams are all online. You can skip whenever. Super chill. Extends deadlines. Will help whenever it is needed. TAKE THIS CLASS!!
All the exams and quizzes are online, lectures are easy to follow and entertaining to listen to! Very lenient and easy to work with. Make sure you put effort into the labs, they get considerably more difficult during the last few weeks, but other than that, the class was a breeze and fun! Love Paul.
Paul is a great professor. Even if geology isn't your thing, the lectures are fun and interesting. You will enjoy this class!
GEO 102 was an easy course taught by a professor who truly cares about what he was teaching. During the lectures, he would use Nearpod to take attendance and give out bonus points, and all the exams were completely remote.
Very nice and obviously wants to help. 100% suggest.
Paul is so real and understanding with his students. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you do get points everyday (and some days EC) for signing in on Nearpod at the beginning of class. His lectures are clear and concise and paced well. The labs are difficult, and it is very important to attend and be on your A game (don't take it at 8 AM!)
Paul really cares and wants to help so reach out to him and ask questions, funny guy, no final exam, there were a lot of homework assignments but nothing to challenging since the answers were basically given to you even in lab so just show up!
Paul was the best professor I had this semester. Actually enjoyed lectures and the workload was pretty easy. Cengage textbook quizzes each week, but not hard.
Paul is a nice professor. He is super chill about classwork and labs and the tests do not drop my grade so much even if I did poorly on it. He gives points for filing out the Nearpod. This is for attendance. Paul is available outside of class for questions. The assignments are not too hard. The labs are super helpful as long as you show up.
I loved Paul. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. There was quite a bit of work to do outside of class, including pre-labs, textbook readings, and reading quizzes. However, Paul made himself available to answer any questions if you were confused. He took the time to get to know students as well, which was very nice.
Professor Meister makes this class enjoyable and easy. Exams are all online, and he's very understanding - extending deadlines and always willing to help. The lectures are clear and the labs, while challenging, are manageable with some effort. unstuck study was a great study tool too!
paul is an absolute icon. if you can take it with anyone, take it with paul!!!
He's a great guy. Go to every class because there were a lot of pop quizzes and the pop quizzes were super easy because it was on a topic he was just talking about. He is very funny and a great person to talk to. There were many things to do but it was not too hard. Great teacher.
Paul was an amazing professor! His lectures were always enjoyable and his teaching made it very clear what was important to remember. Just be ready for random lecture quizzes, but you only need to get one question right for full credit. The lowest exam score drops, and that includes the final! The lab also wasn't too bad!
Paul is genuinely so nice and wants you to succeed. Attendance kinda matters at some points, because there is some random low point quizzes, but they are so easy. Just basically go to class when you can.
I love me some Paul! He's so nice and helpful and makes the class super easy!
Great professor. His lectures are straightforward and easy to follow. He is also pretty helpful and easy to get help from.
Paul is amazing!! Exams are all online and I forgot to take two of them and still ended with a decent grade. I would take many more classes with Paul!!!!
Paul is an awesome professor! I usually hate science but i genuinely enjoyed his lectures and the labs we had to do. There are 4 exams and the lowest one drops and they are all online. Overall A pretty easy class. . Very kind guy.
paul is a very funny guy but it doesn't translate well into being a professor. he gave lots of interesting information in lectures - but it was never what was on the exams. even our ta would admit that the content of exams couldn't have been learned from lectures. the class isn't necessarily difficult, paul just doesn't teach much of the content
Paul was an outstanding professor. If you come to class, take notes, and put your best effort into it, you should have no trouble getting a good grade. Labs can be a little difficult, but other than that it's a fairly straightforward class.
Lab was the hardest which had 1 in person test. As of spring semester 2025 tests are online on your own with multiple choice and one short answer that is worth 10 pts. He is a generous grader when it comes to the short answer, just don't use AI for it. He also offers in class points, so attend class. Paul offered a lot of extra credit as well.
By far best option for science gen-ed. He is funny and the lectures are short. Labs are the only annoying thing. Try to make friends in lab so u can collaborate w them (they can be difficult) and so you don't have to sit in depressing silence while everyone else has fun. Exams and final are on quizlet but google works. Take this!
Very funny guy, you don't have to go to all the lectures, but do not miss a lab.
I LOVE Paul. Exams and Quiz/HW are ONLINE, 1 Lab test, but if you participate in the labs and try to learn it, it should be very easy. If you skip, there is 1 pop quiz every week, BUT you can search up the answers and only need 1 correct for full credit. He's SUPER FUNNY and sweet. Overal Great Teacher he really CARES ABOUT WHAT HE DOES
Paul is amazing!! If you get the chance to, you should definitely take a class with him. His lectures are interesting, and he is very caring and understanding. Show up to lecture to get the most out of the class, but you don't have to show up to do well in the class. He is really funny and kind too. He genuinely wants his students to succeed!!
This was one of the easiest classes I've ever took. There is assignments he posts during lecture for "attendance" but doesn't really affect your grade. I miss over 80% of them and still ended with an A. Exams and quizzes are online. The only thing is one website used for class costs $100.
All of his tests, quizzes, and homework were online. He does a lot of in class quizzes that as long as you are there you receive full credit. He gives a lot of examples and he really cares about his class. The tests are annoying because they are a lot of applied work as apposed to what was just surface taught in lecture.
Paul is an excellent professor! He is a really funny and kind guy, who cares to help his students! All of the exams are online, and no final (Just an optional "Unit 4 Exam"). The labs did get more difficult as the course went on, but with a good lab asst. you'll be just fine. He also does in-class pop quizzes so be sure to attend class regularly.
Didn't care for this class given the good reviews. Course was just not fun at all and labs sucked. Easier than the other science gen eds tho
Says that attendance is not madatory, but there is in class quizzes everyday. So just go anyways because that basiclaly means it is mandatory. As long as you listen to the lecture and take notes, you will have no problem passing. Labs are super easy. Just put in effort, and you will pass no problem.
Attendance is optional but HEAVILY recommend going because of random quizzes that can really be the difference between a B and an A (he does not round). Grades automatically entered as 0 to motivate you to do them. Grade is test heavy, but lowest exam gets dropped. Great professor, but lecture was a little boring. Overall, a good gen ed to take.
Great professor. Lectures have attendance quizzes but as long as you do the work and tests/quizzes its an easy a. Labs can get confusing but the TA's help. Take this for a gen ed.
Overall he was an okay professor. All exams, quizzes, and homework were online except the random lecture quizzes you must be in class for. The class overall was really boring and the labs were sometimes confusing but a decent amount of extra credit was given. All and all I say you get out of this class what you put in.
Paul is one of the most chill professors I've ever had. His class is easy as long as you go to lecture. He sometimes gives pop quizzes in class that count towards attendance, so beware of those. He also doesn't give a ton of extra credit, but when he offers it, TAKE IT (it literally saved my lab exam grade).
Paul is a great professor, and I would highly recommend him if you want to take a geology class. He's very passionate about this subject and you can tell in his lectures. There are 5 exams but 4 of them are online and one is a lab exam, which isn't bad. There are also random attendance quizzes so you might want to try showing up for most lectures.
This was a very easy gen-ed. He is very funny and offers tons of extra credit. Labs were a bit difficult but the TA's helped a ton. Exams and quizzes are all online and very easy to get an A on. I would be on my phone during lectures tbh but the TA's would review everything in lectures in labs. There are also attendance pop quizzes so go to class.
Paul is really great. There are a couple assignments each week and a lab each week. I went to almost every single lecture, but not a lot of people ever went. His lectures of kind of boring. All the exams are online. Labs are mostly for completion work and one big lab exam. Definitely take this class for the science gened credit.
Paul is a very good professor and you can do all quizzes and tests online which is a plus. Labs are mandatory bc it counts towards attendance/ assignments. Def recommend to take Paul for a GEO class because he is funny.
Paul was a great professor. He took his time lectures very well. Everyone recommends this class as one of your science requirements. Toward the end of the semester when attendance (not mand.) was very low, he started giving lots of extra credit with hidden answers that could only be done if you were in class, besides that, the class is very easy.
LOVE PAUL. Class isn't mandatory but I advise you to go because he explains a lot during class. Exams are online. The lab was cool, boring, and confusing but it was cool. Take this class it's doable.
Great professor overall. The only thing I didn't like was the constant attendance checks. He cares more about your attendance than your learning and understanding of the course material.
Paul is the Goat, take this class with him and I promise you'll love it. Guy is genuinely hilarious and actually cares about his students. Show up to class though!! He likes to do random lecture quizzes that can only be taken in class, but they are easy, and you always get 100% if you show up.
Attendance only mandatory in labs
I do not like science but I loved having Paul!
Very easy class. Tests are all online besides one in person lab exam. Overally very nice professor and a very intresting class.
Attendance is taken but it's such a tiny piece of your grade that it won't really affect your grade. The lectures are fine and he makes things easy to understand. You can read the textbook but he covers what he wants you to know. Don't expect the lectures to line up with the lab. There are quizzes each week that are online and the exams are online.
Very funny and interactive even in a giant lecture hall. Very relatable and uses personal stories to add to actual learning. An awesome guy who makes the class relatively easy to get an A. Random attendance checks in class can sometimes be the difference between an A and a B. Tests are online and at home. Would highly recommend my GOAT, Paul.
Paul is amazing, funny, and genuinely cares. Labs can be very hard. Depends on how much your TA is willing to help you on them. Everything is online; the only thing you have to worry about is the labs.
Paul is amazing! He's genuine and funny. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Lecture attendance not mandatory, but he randomly assigns attendance quizzes and explains slides deeper. Exams are a bit hard, even if you read the Cengage chapters, but they're online and asynchronous. Labs are easy and fun, expect one midterm lab exam.
