He expects A LOT, teaches lightning fast, but a real nice guy
hes a nice guy dont get me wrong...but his class is HARD.he moves fast.lotta D
ok he is helpful, nice but requires a lot of hard work and moves fast.
He is one hard professor...You can do well as long as you keep up with his workload and pay careful attention
Helpful&nice guy-a lot of reading&papers but easy to do if you spit back his viewpoint
He is an amazingly smart man. If you are unwilling to work, don't take him. BUT if you want to learn, he is certainly willing to teach. Take him if you want to work and learn with a very nice man.
This man is brilliant. Truly a scholar. Course requires a heavy workload, but he takes the time to explain everything thoroughly. If you don't mind doing some work, it is a great course taught by a highly intellectual and very humorous man.
DO NOT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE THIS MAN...ESPECIALLY IF U DON'T CARE MUCH FOR THE COURSE
AVOID THE PEAR MAN! Unless you are willing to compromise your views and spit back everthing that he says as doctrine in your papers-avoid this professor.
Nice guy, class work is hard, but you can do fine in the class if u make it a priority...i got an A and worked for it...deserved it and he gave it...hes nice guy to talk to as well
He is one of the nicest professors to get. His work is hard though. If you can write, you can get an A. Be friendly and participate!!!
HE'S THE BEST!
As a theology major he was a little deep, I could grasp what he said and learned a lot but for and intro course he is a little advanced and a little full of himself too. If you don't know much bout religion on Christianity, I advise against taking him.
Pear Man! Yes, folks he's shaped like a pear. The content of the class is difficult, especially if you've never been exposed to theology before He's a semi-decent guy and the work load is heavy, but relatively easy if you spit back his opinion at him.
Great class! Very interesting man! Really knows what he's talking about! (Keep in mind that I'm a Theology major, so I'm partial!)
The class is not an easy A but he is a very smart man who knows what he is talking about. if you work hard and read everything it should not be too difficult. I learned so much in this class probably more than any other- i got B+
Really energetic, very nice guy. He really likes participation, the stuff you read tends to be interesting because most of it is easy to understand and short. Tests were easy.
i never had him but i heard you would rather stick a razor sharp knife in your sack than sit through his class.not the best you like him or hate him
This guy is horrible, he's self-absorbed and he's very BORINGGGGGGGGGG....do yourself a favor and skip this class...all it will do is bring down your GPA.....lets you out of class late as well
very into what he teaches.
The subject matter is hard but his subject matter has been very intriguing. His tests are essay tests but they are open book because he has even said he has no interest in students just memorizing, he wants u to learn. Very intelligent guy.
If you are a theology major or love theology then take this class, if not then stay away. He really knows his stuff but it is very intense and difficult. Nice guy but the course is tough. Think about how much you really love theology before you take this

really loves wut he does, funny guy when he goes off on a tangent, just papers-no test(trust me its better that way), wears his pants too high, loves karl barth, in the end-i liked the class..it took a while in the beginning but the it grows on you
first of all he is wierdly shaped. He's way to into himself, he thinks that his views of who god really is, is in fact the way the entire world should view god. His tests are open book but you can never get a question right. He sucks! Save your time...
He is very picky with his grading. It is not an easy A, however he is EXTREMELY nice. Just write exactly what he tells you in the papers. Do not have ur own opinion and you will do fine!
sucks
The man knows his sh*t, so don't even bother to argue.
the whole class is about his views and opinions. Nothing is fact and all he does is argue with other weirdo's about what God is.. Dont bother to argue and your're never right..dont take him
This class is a joke. It should be for Theology majors only. He is **** that is so into himself and his views. He just a strange **** who shouldn't be teaching
You are crazy to take this class. It will be the hardest class in SJU that you'll take. Its suppose to be a core class but he makes its impossible for students. He is bases his class on his views and if you disagree then you're wrong..DONT TAKE HIM!!!
Can be the worse teacher in st.johns. Lectures all class about how his views are right and argues other views are wrong no matter what. He doesn't listen to students if they disagree and makes the student feel stupid if you can analyze what the chapter is about in his stupid book
he is hard yet so passionate about his work that his interest in the subject makes you want to get interested. as long as you take good notes you should be fine. be prepared for the huge workload though. however, if you can get through this, you can get through anything. plus he says baloney a lot.

they keep taking away my post about this teacher...he is so bad, dont take him, do yourself a favor and take a differnt THE. class..you will regret taking this guy
He is a great professor who explains the subject clearly. If he seems opinionated its because there is truth to what he says. He is an excellent professor.
BEST PROFESSOR! haha, or not... will probably make you hate the subject, but he's clear about what he wants in his papers so just write what he tells you and you'll get an A. if you're looking to just get through your theo requirements and don't actually care, take him. otherwise...not so much...
He makes the class interesting, very enthusuastic about his work, not too hard, although he has his dumb jokes at time. Is rather opinionated but hey. Take good notes, and copy ur notes word for word in ur papers, u can't go wrong.
you guys have to be on crack to give this guy a good rating. he is so horrible. if you're in THEhonors then you'll like him but if your just trying to get your requirements done then DO NOT TAKE HIM, you will regret it and it will lower your GPA
This teacher is way too involved in himself to be a theology teacher. If it's not about His book, then it is about His life or His views or His ideas. Steer clear of this guy. Tests are way too vague, and even if you think that you have them completely answered you will still get a "B" like I did.
Honors program or not, you don't want to take this guy unless you: Are a Theology major/Really like writing a lot of papers/Like reading difficult theology texts. I got through his class by taking marathon notes and rewriting everything he said in my papers. Whatever you do, just AGREE WITH HIM
Amazingggg prof, I love him he dosnt give to much work in my opinion and he is just a great professor. I say definatly take his class
NNOOO WAYY I WOULD EVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AGAIN...HE IS THE WORSE GUY IN SJU. THE CLASS IS ALL BASED ON HIS VIEWS AND HE IS NEVVER WRONG..HE IS CLASS IS JUST A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND ALSO HE MAKES YOU BUY THE BOOK THAT HE WROTE JUST SO HE MAKES MONEY OFF IT BECAUSE NO PERSON IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BUY IT

TAKE THIS CLASS!!! If you are interested in theology and like a professor who knows what hes talking about and who is willing to work with you and help you pass if you actually pay attention you will love it! and you will leave the class with all sorts of knowledge on many different topics and terms. I had a great time, he is def my fav professor
there is no way anyone should take this class. He can be the worse teacher in SJU.The only way to get an A is to kiss his behind and agree with everything he says. If you dare to argue with him he will make you feel like and idiot. Trust me save yourself the agony of this guys class
Wrote the text himself and there's not much. Not a good approach to introduce religion
very dry, very boring; please don't waste your time on this one
You cannot refute his positions, esp. when he wrote the text himself. Pretentious, though education and erudite. Save yourself and take another's class, seriously.
Although he has his critics, this class was honestly one of my favorites this semester. He does only believe in what he believes in, but it seems to me that he is 100% correct. You will learn so much from this class and it will cause you to think so much in life. It is a great class and I'm so glad i took it!
Amazing prof, if anyone says somthing bad about him its because they cant handle this sort of material. Writes his own material he teaches from which is great, really knows his stuff, and if you enjoy theology, can keep up with an amazing professor who only asks you to read and listen in class then you will do well If not then take somthing else
you have to take a lot of notes and papers. also you gotta read a lot. but no tests or final. you must agree to everything he believes in. this class is a class hard to fail if you do all your work and be on time to class.
As a theology nut myself, I found him to be especially cocky, also dismissive and condescending when it came to questions. he writes his own text but has a hard time accepting ANY criticism. He honestly shows not enough respect to his students.
he'sa very understanding professor he gives 1-2pg take home papers wich he counts as quizzes and then he allows you to rewrite it if you didnt like the grade you got.all the exams are open book and all you have to do is agree with him and repeat to him the exact thing he told you in classontheexam..he's very strict on attendance so beearlyigotan A-
As others have said before: condescending, cocky, pretentious, dismissive, disrespectful. Knowledgeable but must learn to respect others and students. He must be right 100% of the time. Not enjoyable.
I cannot believe the comments here. He is a very funny, very approachable professor. His is very serious about his sbject area but is it definitely more than possible to get an A in his class, I did. It requires taking notes and using it in the papers that we write. I had a fun time in his class b/c it was one of 5 classes i didn't fall asleep in.
Hes a nice guy if your nice. Dont EVER go against him and pretend to believe whatever he believes or else you will die. If your smart, you'll write down everything he says and when its time to write your paper (which is 5-6 pages) just rewrite your notes and your guaranteed an A. No exams no midterms or finals not too bad overall.
Not so bad, participate in class discussions and rewrite ur notes that u take from him or else. There are no tests, just papers 5-6 pgs. He tries to make jokes every now and then. He is pretty reasonable when assigning the dure dates for the papers.
Really nice guy. very fair and understanding, if you dont know something or miss something during the lecture he will stop and clarify it for you ( dont get to dependent on that) you must attend class..all notes r the papers and exams great guy and personality, made me interested in subject when i had no intention of even liking this class
Very nice guy. Kept me very interested in the subject each class. If you go to class listen and take decient notes you sould be fine. He has 3 test all open book and 3 essays right from the notes. He has a nice personality and he knows what he is talking about.
Best Theology Professor i have ever had. He has the best attitude, he puts you in a good mood early in the morning and really knows his stuff. He is very clear on everything and his class was very interesting. Gives 3 open book exams, and take home essays, really easy if you pay attention and take good notes. He uses his own book.
hard class just for a required theo class and the teacher doesnt help make the stuff fun at all save yourself from him
If you go to class.. and spit back exactly what he tells you back on his papers u'll do great
Tough for a core class. I got an A on all the papers, but u really need to work on them. Forget ur own opinon, and write what he believes in. A lot of reading, including his own text. DO NOT EVER TRY TO PROVE HIM WRONG. U will learn a lot in his class though.
I admit that it was difficult for me to want to go to this class-the subject isn't that interesting. However, you do learn a lot. There are quite a few papers, but they serve as the grades (no midterm/final). As long as you listen in class, take clear notes, and read the material, you should have no problem.
tough class, must attend regularly to have a shot at an A. plays favorites too much and is sidetracked easily. he will only talk about his opinion so you CANNOT disagree, even if you make a valid point.
Tough class, if you dont show, or if you dont read. Your grade depends on his opinion, so just write down what he says, and regurgitate it in your papers. Not too much work, but you do need to try.
Red flags should be going up if it's a theology course being taught without ever using the Bible - the textbooks are written by himself and required. Lessons are his own discussion with sources from his own book. Hard to argue with him, especially when all ideas are to be from reading his book. Avoid if possible.
VERY OPINIONATED, and it gets VERY annoying at times
He's challenging but it's not impossible to do well in his class. He knows the material is hard so he EXPECTS questions; so even if you don't know anything just ask him some questions and show that you're at least trying--he'll respect that. If the entire class begs he'll also push back or completely drop quizzes. Take notes and show up to class.
I would NOT reccomend taking this professor. He will only accept answers that directly correlate to what he says in class and is boring. I fell asleep on the first day of classes and havent made it through one since. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He is annoying and pompous.
Extrodinarily pompus. If you don't agree with him then you are wrong. One of the textbooks is his own work. Its a hard class and he just gets on your nerves. The class is almost entirely discussion based, which I thought was a good thing, untill I realized that it is literaly impossible to argue with him.
this class is a joke. you must agree with him 100% or you fail. horrible teacher who expect you to know everything about theology when its theology 1000. teacher = epic fail
I LOVED THIS CLASS! he uses his own textbook that he wrote!! the class is kinda frustrating because he repeats alot!! READ WHAT URE ASSIGNED!!! if you read what u have to in this class ulle do fine! ask him questions and ulle also do fine!
Just remember everything is Christocentric and begins and ends with Jesus Christ. He doesn't accept anyone's views but his, since he uses his own book as the textbook. You have to take note what he says and incorporate them (preferably his exact words) to do well. You must participate a lot in class too. Quite hard to ace this class.
OMG okay don't get me wrong hes really nice hes just really annoying. this class is so repeative ... you def. have to believe what he believes or you might no do to well. everything goes back to his main point of the course ... day after day after day. my class had MADD little essays due at least once a week. pretty annoying. dont take him
OMG okay don't get me wrong hes really nice hes just really annoying. this class is so repeative ... you def. have to believe what he believes or you might no do to well. everything goes back to his main point of the course ... day after day after day. my class had MADD little essays due at least once a week. pretty annoying. dont take him.
This class is so repeativie its so annoying. if you agree with him youll prolly pass i wrote about 15 papers for him no longer then 2 pages each but its still alot for no good reason. hated going to this class. AVOID AT ALL COST
Class was so easy, take home midterm & final, no tests just written assignments, alot of reading but easy class
He's a total sweetheart, just get on his good side and you are guaranteed an A no matter what garbage you hand in!! He wrote the book himself, so you need to read, but he repeats himself over and over again so you get the hang of it. Agree with him and you'll do well. Try to disagree and he'll hate you and you probably won't do very well.
He's a cutie pie. He's so sweet and amazing. Take him. He's incredible. Easy A. No midterm, no final. Just essays. All these people have it bass ackwards.
Great Professor. He class was interesting and Fun. He is sooo sweet and as long as you hand in work you will pass. He doesnt mind if you disagree with him but as long as you make a valid point. It always help to agree tho lol Loved the class. Just take Home test. TAKE HIM TAKE HIM =)
What a waste of my time, if there was ever any chance of me being open to Christianity, he killed it.
horrible class.. you really have to have an understand of theology to even be interesting in the class. Repeats himself over and over. Mocks students if they come in late without first maybe asking for a reason. Likes to pick on specific students who he knows are having trouble in the class. Overall just a rude guy. Also a lot of reading and hw.
Not a bad prof. He's nice and gives fairly easy work. He listens to students feedback on tests/ quizzes and tells you every topic that's going to be on it as well as what the essay questions are. He attempts jokes that are sometimes funny but if you slack off or aren't paying attn. he picks on you. Overall good prof. I recommend him.
Molnar's a real nice guy, lectures can drone but he keeps things lively with his explanations. Tests are straightforward and you'll do great if you read the material or listen to him in class at the very least. Get the book because he uses it every class and he lets you use it and your class notes on the tests so make sure you take good notes.
Horrible professor. He is so cocky.. he wants you to purchase all the books he wrote.. full of himself. Too many papers.. too many assignments.. too much talking. Not worth the money you pay for tuition. Avoid at all costs.
I love him! you do have to go to class and participate but he's a great guy and if you pay attention in class and use that information in the papers youll be well
Took for Jesus in christian faith. Take good notes and participate for a good grade. Test are 20 -30 mc and essay. essays are open book. Mc is very easy and straight forward. lots of reading from his textbook so read to get an A. Agree with views and you will get a good grade. A little bit of effort will get you an A.
Great and Funny teacher! Get him if you are a deep thinker who wants to understand Christianity. His favorite theologian is Karl Barth. Read the books because thats the answers in the essays. Few take long home essays no test. Pay attention in class and don't chat because he will pick on you - trust me. He's an understanding guy. def. take him.
He's not as bad as people say he is. Actually he's an okay professor, but you have to stay awake. At 7:30 in the morning, it is really hard to stay awake in that class. If you can stay awake and take good notes, you'll be fine. If not, well, might want to read ahead or just switch out. No homeworks. Just a few exams. Not hard, just really boring.
His class is extremely boring, definitely do not make the same mistake I did and take it at 7:30. Dr. Molnar is a very nice guy, but the course in general is far from easy. Do not think because you are Catholic you will do well in the class bc chances are you have not learned any of the stuff before.
boring lectures. 3 1pg papers, 3 5pg papers. go to class, what he says in lecture is what you should write about & will help you immensely when it comes to writing that 5pg paper. If you are not religious, or not Catholic, I strongly do not recommend taking him. He assumes you know about the Trinity etc prior to taking his class. Easy/fair grader.
You got 3-4 I page papers, 3 5 pg papers and class participation. Go to class. You'll need to take notes bc you gotta write everything he wants to hear in you 5 page essays. Buy Migliore's Faithi seeking Understanding. Molnar's own book Divine Freedom is optional in terms of buying bc it's in the library and you dont use it as much as Migliore. GL!
He isn't that bad. He's a fair grader. Yes, there are at least three 5-page papers you have to write throughout the semester, but they're not that bad. VERY boring in lecture. Assigns readings for every class. I almost never did them because he goes over it in class anyway. The worst thing about this class was waking up for 7:30AM.
He is such a sweety! I knew some people that didn't like him, but he's honestly so nice. No tests, just essays. If you write down exactly what was mentioned in class and on the readings you'll get a good grade. Just pay attention and participate and you'll be fine.
I hate this teacher, he is the worst theology teacher ever, he might look forgiving and might look like he is an understanding old man but he really is not. If you do not show up to a few of his class, he would automatically grade your tests and assignments harder.
Worst Professor ever. Gave me an F. Showed up to class everyday, took down his slides of notes which were always full. Had to rush to type the slides down because he would always switch very quick. Gives out papers on a certain subject and you get a lower grade than expected because he tells you, you left out something that he did tell to write.
DROP THIS CLASS WHILE YOU CAN. RUTHLESS.
If you're taking him for honors it's very easy i barely paid attention in class, took no notes and was still able to pull b's by writing the papers last minute If he puts the powerpoints online you're good cause thats all he wants to see in the essays. and also reference the texts a fair amount. nice man, wouldn't take him again but don't regret it
he's a really nice guy. participate, and he'll really like you, but you have to say things he agrees with. no tests, just a lot of papers. if you just pack the papers with the stuff he agrees with, you'll get all A's.
His lectures are pretty long, and we never get let out earlier than 5 minutes before class ends, but class did get cancelled twice. I never pay attention in lecture, but he puts his powerpoints up online. They are super helpful in essays!! Use his powerpoints for his papers and you will do good. three 5 page papers and four 1-2 page papers. no test
No tests in this class, which was good. But he assumes everyone has a Christian background, and explains how Christianity is the best religion and how certain theologians are wrong about their beliefs. I understand this was a class from Christian perspective, but he took it a bit far. Long portfolio assignments. Powerpoints are a must to read.
Be prepared to sell your soul. He rewards you for parroting his viewpoint in essays, and it's a very specific one. He's trying to breed a generation of Christocentric theologians here, you have to at least play the part to do well. For anyone who isn't a conservative Christian, it's very frustrating and alienating.
Pay attention in class, participate, and do all of the required work. I think his class is fair. About every other week, we submit a 1 to 2 page homework assignment based on the readings. So far, we have also submitted two 5 page essays in addition. The questions to write about are what we talk about in class. He is willing to help also.
make sure you take notes in lecture and pay attention to what he says, if you write about that and what he agrees with in your papers and portfolios you will get A's. you might feel overwhelmed if you dont have a christian background but the class is doable! participate and he will love you and dont text/doze off in class he'll call you out for it
Boring or repetitious lectures, large amounts of readings, there are short essays fairly often and there are portfolios in place of tests, 5 pages each. If you're not religious this class will be even worse, and must write his opinions for your essays; last essay I wrote I deviated and got a C+. Proceed with caution & seriously consider a new prof.
This class is purely based on your writing performance. I don't even remember how many papers that I had to write, and I was unable to achieve any grade above a B+, which was very frustrating. He leaves a lot of comments on returned writing assignments. You are able to re-write any essay as long as you notify him. He is a tough grader as well
Professor Molnar is one of the kindest professors I know. He really helps, although the papers may be hard to attain an A in, you can always resubmit. That's why if you put in the effort you will do well. If you don't understand something JUST ASK, it's your own fault if you do bad, he explains everything very well.
Professor Molnar is passionate about what he teaches, which is great, but if you have a different opinion than his don't say anything in class and definitely don't write about in the essays he gives because you will not get a good grade. He's a pretty reasonable guy, but I wouldn't suggest you take his course if you are an opinionated person.
nice guy but if you don't agree with him you will struggle to succeed. if you ready and pay attention you will do OK, however it is very hard because his voice is monotonous and not intriguing
If you study and take notes you will do fine, just make sure to take note of his opinions. Don't be scared if you have him, u can get an A in this class if you put in the work. It is lecture heavy and you definitely want to pay attention and not miss class. He explains everything clearly, his class is strenuous but not difficult.
Professor Molnar is extremely passionate about his beliefs and what he teaches, so one will definitely have to be willing to listen and support such beliefs. There is a lot of reading and notes, but as long as you read and listen you'll be fine on the tests. Professor Molnar really does want his students to succeed, so ask for help if you need it.
nice guy but talks a lot! very opinionated. pay attention to his lectures and read the chapters in the textbook. a couple papers, couple of tests. usually MC and essay.
Nice professor but soooo much material to learn, and A LOT of readings. Every other Theology class seems to simple compared to this one, I'd avoid if you aren't a theology major
Goes through the powerpoints too quickly. You have to write the essays based on what he believes and would think is right, not what you think. Pretty stuck in his ways but loves discussion. Made his own book the textbook. Repeats himself 10 times in class and in the book, which was annoying. Okay teacher though, not horrible.
While you do have to read a lot and write at least a few papers, the material is very straightforward. Prof puts up slides for the class after going over it and it definitely clears things up from his lecture. He's very passionate about his work and tends to ramble, but does care about the success of his students. Would definitely take again!
If you don't have a true passion for the class, it is very difficult to enjoy. He expects you to comprehend the material and does everything from the textbook. He gives alot of homework and grades it. He can also be extremely judgmental, loves to ramble about his opinion constantly and calls out people for lateness or more. Tough grader as well.
Be prepared to leave your own opinions outside the door when you walk into this class. Every test and paper is an opportunity for you to simply explain why Professor Molnar is right. However, he is incredibly passionate about his topic, he uses very helpful powerpoints and the class will increase your critical thinking skills.
This was the best theology course I have ever taken
Well respected in his field and very passionate but dont take him if your not a theology major. Only write what he agrees with. Use his powerpoints to take notes on during class. PAY ATTENTION. Hint- tests are open book so write your essay in advance and copy it because he has unrealistic expectations of what you can write in 1.5 hours.
He is probably the worst theology professor at st johns. His tests are graded so much harder than they should be and he is very opinionated and thinks everything he says is true. take any other professor if you can
I would take any other professor other than him. He is very judgey and wants everything his way or the highway. If you want a higher grade, good luck because he won't give you it
He's an extremely difficult grader and makes theology much harder than it should be. Goes really fast in class and expects you to know the perspectives of multiple theologians but he only admires one theologian and YOU have to support whoever and whatever Dr. Molnar supports. If you're not a religious Catholic, this is is an extremely complex class
UNFAIR GRADER ALERT!! No credit given for effort; everything needs to be written the way he wants it, which is difficult because he treats his students as if they're grad students, not college students who are REQUIRED to take his class. He gives us 1.5 hours for his tests, but that's simply not enough because he expects a ton of writing!!!
Goes on long rants during lectures that make no sense. If you don't agree with him then get ready to fail, and get ready to read for every single class as well as write a paper at least once a week. Gives assignments with no rubric so make sure you pay attention when he is giving the assignment. Exams are all essay based.
Yeah, this class just is not a good time. It is a lot of heavy reading and a lot of unnecessary papers.
Prof. Molnar is a good guy with dry humor but I wouldn't take this class again. Theology should not be this hard and be prepared to write an essay almost every class. Also, leave your opinions out the door; just write about why he is correct and you'll pass. His powerpoints are KEY to getting an A, and prewrite your essays before each test.
Probably the worst professor ive ever had. The whole class is just writing about why his opinions are right. If you like to suck up this class is an easy A. just beware there's a lot of reading and a lot of stuff will make no sense. I never knew studying theology would be so hard.
Very good Professor. At first, I was nervous to take his class because of the mixed reviews. However, his class was very straight forward and if you are confused, he will help you with the material. Tells you what should be included on HW, tests, etc. There is a midterm and a final as well as some small 10 question quizzes. Pretty good Professor
I wasn't able to choose my schedule as a freshman, but if I could I never would have chosen this class. Just know your opinion doesn't really matter. You'll do well if you kiss up and feed into his ego. He's a nice guy don't get me wrong, he just isn't that great of a professor. Tests are alright but can get confusing. Just make sure you READ.
I literally spend hours on his essays and he does not care he will fail you. Also doesn't care we are in the middle of a pandemic and its hard for students to give their 100% attention to this class. Also he's just very bad at teaching too im so confused in that class. literally the worst class I have ever taken and worst teacher I have ever had.
I absolutely hate this class, if I wasn't required to take it I wouldn't. It is so much reading with only essays as a way of grading. He grades essays so harshly and the class isn't enjoyable- I dread it so much- drop it or take a different professor, thank me later.
I hate this man. This entire class is based on his opinion and only his opinion. The assignments are only just to support his idea because if you don't, he takes points off even though he asks for YOUR understanding and opinion on the topic. Terrible professor. He's also rude and will belittle you if you don't know an answer to a question he asks.
The strictest grader. Does . not teach Theology, only his opinions on Theology. Will take off points for dumbest things.
This man is the worst prof ever! ur opinions do not matter in this class and he always talks about himself! He isn't afraid to basically call u dumb and makes u feel uncomfortable to speak in class. Exams are unnecessarily difficult and grades them so harshly! He constantly plugs himself and everything he has written into class. Worst prof ever
Compared to other theology professors he is one of the better ones. Barley gives hw maybe one or 2 assignments. Be prepared to read and participate but it is optional he just likes it.
This guy gives extra long and complicated essay exams and expects you to answer the SAME exact way he expects the answer. Completely ridiculous, takes points off like crazy and does not have clear lectures. Difficult material for a Theology LEVEL 1 class, this class is not that serious he needs to calm down.
In the class he is a hairs width away from doing these angry rants that he slips out of like they didn't happen. The reading is TOUGH, esp. for an introduction to Theology. Dodge this class if you can.
Avoid him if you can. His lectures are insanely long and hard to understand. He gives three exams throughout the semester. The exams are extremely complicated and lengthy, they'll take you a solid 12 hours to complete.
Dr. Molnar is by far my favorite professor at St. John's. I was really able to connect to the course material and grow. I recommend this class for people with or without a strong background in theology as his lectures allowed even a novice to engage.
this class was more on the difficult side. he is a super nice person but wants students to participate 24/7 on topics that are wordy and confusing. he is a tough grader on the few essays he gives. the workload isn't insane but this class was definitely on the harder side of the courses I've taken so far.
People hate Professor Molnar for no reason because they dont want to listen in class and do the simple work that he assigns. All you have to do to get good grades in his class is the bare minimum, aka pay attention in class and answer his assignments exactly how he would. Its really not that hard. Hes a smart guy and youll learn a lot from him.
avoid him. His lectures are insanely long. He only gives 3 tests within the semester and they all take 12 hours or more. when he doesn't agree with your opinion he takes points off. He only gave 3 homework assignments the whole semester and grades everything very harshly. Not a good professor for an introductory class.
THIS IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD, when people say give teachers a chance DONT WITH THIS GUY! I'm warning you all from the bottom of my toes to the top of my scalp avoid him at all cost.
The worst teacher I have ever had at this school. Did not help me when I showed confusion on and assignment. Left me demeaning comments on my paper, when I had clear confusion.
Do not take this professor. He calls on you randomly and makes you feel stupid if you don't know the answer. Tests are almost impossible. Leaves disrespectful comments on people's tests. For example, "You could not be more wrong if you tried."
this professor is very rude and harsh when it comes to grading assignments he only gives a good grade if you see God in his point of view. His feedback does not help you correct any mistakes; but only degrade the work you submitted. I do not recommend taking him, I had to take this as a credit and regret it to the fullest.
very rude feedback on assignments the university should look into how he gets back at students on their work; rather than helping their errors he criticizes your intelligence without hiding it. He will call you out and embarrass you in front of the whole class about your knowledge. only gives 3 exams nothing else so if you do bad on them your done
very rude, has no sympathy for his students, expects his students to view Christianity only the way he views it, does not provide help for confusion, gives demeaning comments, only 3 test no other assignments, do not take him, embarrasses students in front of class, recommend taking a diff professor, makes theology miserable to learn, not enjoyable
He grades test based on his own perspective of christianity. I thought a theology class was supposed to combine teaching from different kinds of religions. This class is strictly about christianity and Trinitarians. Prof. Molnar is very christocentric so expect to be hearing a lot about Jesus.
definitely not the best. his opinion is what's considered "correct". very critical of other theologians. will embarrass you in front of the whole zoom class if you get something wrong. he favors the students who participate the most so keep that in mind. you have to have your camera on always and be visible. he only gave 3 TESTS and THAT'S IT!!
For starters this class doesnt seem hard because he barley gives work. his lectures are long and not properly explained. There are a total of 3 tests and each test will be the hardest thing you will have to put your mind too. Hes rude to students and makes them for dumb after a question. do not make the mistake of taking this class with him.
Hands down worse professor the school has hired your opinion on religion is not correct if does not match his gives demeaning comments to students and feedback that degrades intelligence only 3 papers are given do not take him made mornings so miserable should be a little more caring towards students and be more humane.
He is very thorough in explaining his lectures. For an introductory class the material was very difficult to understand, some of which I still don't get.The 3 tests we took had 2-3 questions with more than 10 questions in each of them.He references the books a lot,but the slides do help with the few assignments given.Take only if interested in topic.
Overall not bad, His essays are about the material he teaches in class so if you take notes on what he agrees and disagrees with it will be easier to write the essays. He makes himself available through email and office hours and is willing to help you. You have to work hard in this class, he is a very tough grader, and he doesn't accept poor work.
Nice guy but super boring lectures. 5 page papers every other week or so. Lots of reading but he does post all the slides to use for the essays. Difficult material.
Very boring lectures but that's typical for theology classes. A few essays- not too hard but just tedious. He tends to think his opinion is always right. Class is sometimes entertaining because of how passionate he is, funny as well.
Please don't take this class if you value your sanity. Professor was a nice guy, material is extremely difficult. Lectures are painfully boring and the papers are tedious. The information is posted in slides, but the prompts for papers are paragraphs of questions. Say exactly what is on his slides or he takes off points. Find an easier professor
Very passionate about theology and super sweet, if you want to do well in the class participate and he will love you. There are a lot of essays but if you agree with everything he says you will get full credit. Not exactly an easy A, but if you pay attention, participate, and write well you will get an A.
He will not help if you say the material is confusing, he'll just say it is simple as if he hasn't studied it for longer than I've been alive. He is disrespectful to you when you get questions wrong in the actual lecture or on assignments. Every fiber of my being is telling you DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Provides rude comments as feedback, boring lectures, will never let you leave class even five minutes early. Requires you to purchase a book that is not the Bible as textbook. It doesn't help that the material is not enjoyable. I only took him because he was the last available option for my schedule, find an easier professor if possible.
Did NOT feel like an intro course. Class felt like it dragged on for eternity but if you don't go you will be completely lost. Essay questions are long, you will question your life choices while writing them. He loved anyone who participated even if you just repeat what he said. Just copy-paste what he says, he becomes predictable after a while.
The way this class is taught is with the expectation that you have a background in Christianity. He is strongly opinionated and you learn that it's best to go along with what he says. He also strongly dislikes when students get up or come in late and will make remarks about you to the entire class. You can do well if you participate and listen.
Nice guy but his lectures are long and boring. He expects you to have previous religious knowledge of the Bible. We had 3-4 essays, 2 short homeworks, and a presentation. NO MIDTERM OR FINAL! If you can take a different professor, do. 9:05 with him was brutal.
Not a bad professor. Gave 6 writing assignments for the entire semester with one presentation. No quizzes, midterms, or finals. Lectures were a complete bore, but if you participate like once, and take notes you'll be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he sees who comes to class and who doesn't, which can influence your grade.
This professor is among the most disrespectful and condescending people I have ever met. He expects you to know every detail about Jesus and then lectures like he's met him. If you critique him, he will name-call and tell you you don't see what you're talking about. He is basically a toddler but 90 years old, and it is time to retire.
The lectures can be boring, but showing up and taking notes goes a long way. Lots of writing assignments, but no quizzes or exams. Attendance is mandatory, and participation helps, even if you just repeat what the professor says. Try unstuck study for effective study prep.
Do not take this professor if you are not good with essays! I have a hard time when it comes to writing papers and those are the only assignments that he gives. We had a total of 5 papers and they only got harder as the semester went on. He expects a ridiculous amount of details in his essays so do pay attention to the lectures.
He is very kind and makes a lot of jokes when lecturing. He has slides so in case that you miss something or aren't in class you can look on canvas. He only grades papers which, if you pay attention in class, are very easy and straight to the point.
Don't even bother attempting to take his class, I went in thinking I would be fine because I am a good writer and am an advanced student academically. He completely demolished any confidence I had whatsoever when taking his course, he is demeaning and rude.
I genuinely enjoyed Molnar's class because he is a pretty chill dude and tries to connect with his students. If you literally copy and paste what he says in class alongside whats on the slides, then it's a free A on every paper. Also if you participate in class, he will notice you and will be more lenient with stuff especially grades.
Professor Molnar is p chill. You learn to go along with what he says, and you do become a better writer through the process of writing the 5ish papers for the course. Participation matters but he lets you know that you will get a letter grade bump up if u participate. No finals, midterm, or anything tho so just lock in on the papers n presentations
very close-minded about the material he teaches given that he himself is a practicing theologian. passionate about the subject, but grades harshly when writing style isn't to his tee
