I thought he was a very good teacher, especially one on one. He is also very intelligent.
Very good teacher, class had some rough spots, but it was his first time teaching it and he was VERY sensitive to the class's understanding of the material (threw out a test that we all did bad on and went over the material again). Hope to have again!
Great teacher. Always willing to help, and he's very pleasant.
A great teacher, the best CS teacher I've ever had literally. I hope I can continue taking my classes from him.

Excellent teacher! Look forward to having him again.
COOL TEACHER
hard class but he did well to teach the amount of information that we needed to cover. I'm still unclear on some things but that's what other cs classes are for. Overall a good teacher, really knew what he was talking about.
Material was not too hard. He was very clear and helpful. Extremely accessible via email.
I highly recommend this teacher. Most helpful teacher I've known yet at the University.
The first knowledgeable CS prof in the series.
Very good one on one, lecture is kinda boring. Had him three terms in a row, so once you get the hang of his tests they are pretty easy.

Best CS professor I've had! Always willing to help. He's a very nice man.
One of the best professors I've ever had and flat out *the* best CS professor I've ever had. Very concerned with students and really approachable. Very clear teaching style and and all around great guy.
The most competent professor I've had since going here. It was an honor to be in his class.

Very good teacher teaching difficult material. Very knowledgable in the field.

Good at explaining Java! You must go to class every day though.

He is really the best computer science professor that I have ever met/ been taught at OSU.
I have had Paul^2son for 2 different classes and in both classes I have found that he is the best CS teacher I have had to date. He is easier to follow then the previous 161 teacher and his summer classes are well taught and a lot of one on one help.
He's da bomb!
Too many PowerPoint slides and not enough examples (actual examples in Codewarrior IDE). Uses language instead of examples to explain ideas.
He is very good, curves alot. His quizzes are little bit hard.
He's by far the best CS Prof at OSU. Curves heavly and makes Java a breeze.
way boring but class is doable
Covers test material in lectures. Posts lectures and other on web. Curves heavily and provides sample code. Well organized class structure and pace, communicates expectations.
He gives a lot of code examples which are helpful. The quizzes are tricky, and he seems to cover some of the more complexed subjects very quickly. He's always available for hep with programming assignments.
hit it before going to class, it'll help.
Good CS professor, especially considering the lack of quality the CS department faces normally with it's teachers.
Paulson really gets what teaching is all about and he's a good guy to boot. Very helpful, easily approachable, lots of office hours. He's heavily invested in students' success. One of the best *teachers* in the OSU CS department.
He can take a dry topic and make it drier, but he gives a damn, which is refreshing in OSU's CS department. I'd rather sit through 5 classes with Paulson than get stuck in another class with a professor who couldn't care less (and can't teach, to boot).
A solid professor, nothing too great but nothing bad either. He is nice on tests.
Very good professor and extremely nice guy. He will help you with any problem.
I feel sorry for Paulson. He is one of the best teachers in the CS department, but he always gets stuck with the boring courses. Overall, he is very helpful and cares about his students.
Great professor, Good lectures, Timely and punctual to respond to e-mails during office hours. Able to answer any questions related to material. Recommend you take his class if possible.
Best CS prof I've had at OSU, even though halting speech pattern in lecture can be a little brain-addling. Really cares about students and does what it takes to help you succeed.
One of the best CS instructors I've had so far.
Very good at explaining and presenting java concepts. First CS professor to do this in my experience.
Very helpful despite awkward test format. Tests more on theory and book/syntax than application. Not used to class format. Recitatons were not helpful, however, instructor is very easy to speak with/provide assistance. Good job! B+
(also for 271) High on empathy, more than any other CS prof at OSU. Tests favor relevant broad concepts, with few surprises. Some picky details, but mostly, expectations and grading are clear and lenient. Lectures sometimes < exciting. Overall quite go
Lectures are boring, but he's aware and tries. One of the nicest instructors at OSU. Will always try and help, and his tests/homework are relevant to the course material.
Super Cool Prof! Very clear, concise notes provided online, with quite relevant material. Wish other Profs followed his lead. I will miss this class. Lectures are a little slow at times, but he always makes it interesting with small, pertinent notes. :-)
Good instruction. Always helpful. No questions on exams intended to "fool" student, just testing per course material objective(major plus). Well implemented course. A credit to the CS department!
Best professor, course is pretty easy. Always curves tests and gives some code for programs. Lectures can be boring, but he does his best given the material. One of the best CS profs!
One of the nicest CS professor at OSU. His course work is very orgnanized and well planned.
Excellent teacher, one of the best if not the best teachers in OSU CS department. English is my second Lang. but he is very clear on aspects. Very very helpful. You will like and enjoy the class.
I've had him before, great instructor. He is always willing to help and wants his students to pass. He is very level headed and knows that students have other things besides his class to deal with.
Good teacher
I was impressed by Paulson. Not many CS teachers at OSU spark my interest in CS as well as he did. One of the best CS teachers OSU has...which is sad that so many other CS teachers at OSU suck. They can all learn a lesson of how to teach from Paulson! He seems like he enjoys teaching too, is a +.
Reason not all 5s: you have to do some network programming and he wasnt too clear on how to do program 2. It was TOUGH to do on top of studying for quizzes and doing work for other classes. Workload is tough. His PP notes are SOO complete you dont need to go to class.Couple Q's on mt and quizzes sux
Very busy class, it's full of things to do, from the homeworks, labs, quizzes, and programs. However, he gives so much extra credit, that it makes the class relatively easy to fix your grade if you messed up in a midterm or quiz. Very boring lectures though, but his slides are very through.
A good professor who really takes the time to make sure you understand the concepts. Fair in grading with curves and always helpful. By far one of the best in the CS department.
Awesome teacher, extra credit on most every assignment, but the second assignment is truly difficult in that he gives no guidance on what the program is supposed to send to the server. If you've had any networking experience, labs are extremely easy
Paulson has a good habit of making his lecture slides VERY complete, which means it's often not necessary to attend his monotonous lectures. He's a nice, humorous guy who seems to really care about making sure students understand the material. Only gripe is the assignments are sometimes difficult...
Paulson is da MAN!!! Program #2 sucks!!! Paul if you read this, and I know you do, would you please consider providing more directions for program #2 in your future CS372 classes? For the sake of all the strugling CS majors. Lectures are zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..
Paulson is an excellent teacher. But make certain to take this class in the fall. They have the retards, ergh, I mean business majors take it in the spring. So you'll be stuck with people who don't know how to code (and don't want to).
All requirements and assignments are explained in detail. Nothing is ambiguous. Tests and quizes aren't too easy and aren't too hard.
Labs, Quizzes, HW, Exams, Programs. However the distribution of points is even and fair. A lot of the work is interesting busy work (like the labs). Paulson is one of the most personable professors in the department. Very helpful in office hours. Programs are the most difficult but are not that time consuming.
Paulson is the only CS prof. that cares about teaching. The lectures are pretty dry, but he doesn't try to trick you or prove he is smarter than you. He really wants everyone to do well.
One of the best CS profs at OSU. Very organized and informative lectures, even though mostly through powerpoint. Keeps everyone attentive with random humor and very good examples. I would not want to take 411 from any other prof!
Best CS Professor at OSU. He actually has compassion for his students! Lectures are thoughtfully planned. Take his courses whenever possible, but expect the full-meal-deal; quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
Paulson is the man. His lectures are dull, but he covers everything you need to know. Easy A with a little effort, but be warned, his multiple choice tests are brutal.
He obviously cares about your learning, very helpful and very friendly!
Lecture are dry. Paulson actual cares about students learning the material. Lecture are very informative. Assignments are clear and not easy. Test and Quizes are very relevent to the material that is taught.
Take it from him if you ever get the chance out of the 60 kids in my class only 2 got C's...rest got B's and A's
He is by far the BEST CS instructor that I have ever had. Sure, he teaches the lower-divison CS courses but he really shine in the upper-divison.
Excellent instructor. I'd recommend taking any CS courses he teaches. He cares about his students unlike other professors. He deserves professor status and pay. Wake up OSU! You have a good instructor, don't loose him!
As always professor Paulson shows great interest and truly cares about how his students are doing. Since this class has evolved to 'hacking the Linux Kernel", Paulson is learning along side his students. Unfortunately a couple programming assignments were more difficult than originally intended, but graded accordingly. Take all his courses!
Awesome
Very very good instructor, by far my favorite class
This is the most boring teacher i have ever had. None of the assignments are actually helpful or useful. They are all filler work and he is insanely boring.
Paulson is an awesome professor. His lectures are simple and clear, though a bit tedious. I think it's the subject and concepts he has to work with since it's a CS intro class. Class got more interesting towards the end. He grades easy, tests are easy. There's no textbook starting this year. He makes jokes, which are usually funny.
An excellent professor, with whom I have had many classes with over the years. Provides clear, focused teaching and fair tests that focus on subject material that was taught in class. Always available to help when a student when they are confused by the subject material.
(Paul^2)son is excellent, and I would recommend his classes having taken two so far. Very clear on grading work, and always available to help. You might think his tests will be easy at first, but they are written well, so make sure you study.
Paulson is not a hard prof, but the projects can take a lot of time to figure out. The only way to survive is to start things way ahead of time to gain an understanding, the actual coding portion of 411 is simple after you understand what you need to do. Paulson grades fairly and goes easy on people.
He is so clear and extremely helpful, so interested in your learning, usually have multiple choice midterm, gives a very helpful easy extra credits, have lots of open hours, not hard teacher at all, basically if you see him teaching a class sign for it
I have had Paulson 3 times now, and my opinion of him keeps raising. Assembly seemed gross, but he gave me an interest in it. He is extremely clear on what he wants, and gives fair exams. I have taken him for granted, and definitely won't anymore. A hard grader, but a great professor.
He was very clear and happy to answer questions, both in the middle/end of lecture and email/OH. TA's were iffy, but he always came through. tests were realistic and very doable if you know the material, but not overly easy. offers some extra credit and (this time) an optional final. He's an asset to OSU and to EECS, hope he teaches much more!
Paulson's lectures do the miracle work of taking subjects that seems extremely dry and technical on the surface and making it palatable and interesting. He explains the material very well, and goes at just the right pace - not rushing through complicated topics, but not repeating himself unnecessarily either. Highly recommended.
