He's a really good teacher, tries to start up random conversations on random things. Likes to know your opinion. His essays aren't hard and you don't really need to use the book. He either explains what you should have read or gives a handout. If you took a Research Analysis class in high school with a good teacher this class will be extremely easy
He's very cool and very knowlegable aout topics. His assignments consist of 5 essays for the semester no extra work, it is easy overall, the grading is fair. I would recommend to every one.

Rogers is a very good teacher and he makes his class interesting. I was actually excited to go to his class becuz he always starts interesting discussions. We did write a lot of essays but they were mostly short in class essays. Not a lot of homework. If you are good in English and writing I would recommend him.
I liked MR. Rodgers class. Hes very nice and explains things very well. Everyone in 132 has to do a research paper, and I dont think he was too hard on the grading but he made us do a speech about it, so keep that in mind if you dont like speeches
had for english 131 and he is a nice guy but does not really teach anything which is hard for people who dont know how to write a good paper. he makes comments on your papers but thats after you make the mistake and you cant re do it.

Rodgers' was very cool!!! He has an interesting sense of humor. I didn't feel anxiety going to his class. Actually, I looked forward to it, unlike my other classes. And eventhough I got a C+ in the class, I really learned alot. That guy who called Rodgers an "a" hole must have been pissed about a grade or something. Rodgers rocks!
He is a great teacher, he's hilarious and he really interacts with the class, he doesn't just lecture but everyone is involved in discussion and it is quite interesting, you will enjoy learning in his class, he's very blunt. Helpful.Essays are easy because he discusses everything! research paper at the endbut its a breeze:) i strongly recommned!

Paul is a relatively easy teacher, however he can be very annoying. He tended to be late... a lot, way to much, and he contradicted himself a bit. His assignments were easy though. A lot of in class memos and stuff like that and one research paper as the final. He's easier than most so take him.

this professor makes the class hard but take it with him, all exams are open book and if you show up you'll be fine but his grading methods are tricky so always make sure you bring those notes but its an easy going class

I'm currently in his class, I like him, he is a good guy, and he doesn't put on a "mask" in class like some professors, he is himself in class. He hasn't been on time to class yet, but its all good. I am not a fan of his attendance policy though, 3 absences and you fall a letter grade. Other than that I like his class.
Ok well, yeah he is nice and all, his homeworks are easy, in class, hardly any take home. Funny guy. BUT, i so close to an A- and he would round me up!!! i was hella pissed. But whatever.Will take him again but this time i am gonna fight for my A!!!

This man has never attended 3 straight classes. Rodgers missed at least 40% of the semester. Alright personality but he has ethical problems. He listens to females openly and is very fair grading female assignments. On the contrary, doesn't really listen to males and is more harsh when grading. HFCC, where did you get this man from? lol!
Funny and very helpful does come to class late though but overall great professor I'm taking him for 131 and 135 assignments are easy, and your final is a term paper please take him you won't regret it
I have taken Professor Rodgers for two classes. He has helped me to become a better writer and more culturally diverse. He is an honest, passionate teacher and knows bs when he sees and hears it.

this teacher is confusing @ times, late to class often, and missed class half the time. seems too interested in making friends then he is in explaining what he wants from you.tells you 1 thing to fix,then marks you down when you do. confusing at times-in class assign. are easy. no tests.dont miss class or you will get behind. take 131 and 132 1st
Professor Rodgers turned out to be the best teacher I ever had! He cares about ALL his students and it shows. I was told prior to registering for the class that he was having health issues. This didn't slow him down at all; I could tell some days he was tired and didn't look well, but hey, we are all human. I learned so much about writing!
He asks his students to be in class everyday and on time, while he comes late almost every day. He grades very unfairly. I killed myself in his class and got a B-, when I am an A studen. He grades by your appearence not your writing. Very sick. He also have ethical problems!!!

this teacher was great! his essays were easy, very good topics, even tho attendence mattered he wasnt strict about it, hes very helpfull, and hes cool with late work once in a while
Professor Rodgers is awesome.. conversations are always exciting and interesting in class. He can be brash and random sometimes.. but very funny and sincere. He is very cooperative with students when helping with papers. I tried to take him for 135 but his class was the first one full with no seats left even before out semester ended. Told you!

He will help improve your grade in the class and also let you revise every essay you turn in. you get ONE QUIZ the easiest test I've ever received, & i will honestly tell you i suck at tests/quizzes and it was sooooo easyyy! I had him for spring 2012 , I simply hated the way he teaches the class. Personally I only learned from the assignments not him especially that he was absent for 10 times.
He is the best English professor ever. He is really funny and tells interesting stories. For a 7 week spring semester there was a lot of work but it's nothing to complain about. If you work for your grade and do as he says you will be solid. His format for assignments are just like WSU. Don't let him intimidate you the 1st day of class. Take him!
Worst Professor to date. Very rarely did he actual discuss the literature. He mostly talked about God and our purpose on this planet. He made a point to tell us that he was not "working class" rather, "professional class" and made 250,000 a year. Class act. ha. Late every day as well. Do not take him. Never posted grades the entire semester either.

The best English teacher I've ever had. He makes the class interesting and his assignments are pretty straight forward. You get chances to improve your essays and one on one conference sessions to let you know where you stand. I waited for a spot in his class just to take him for 131 and 132. Absolutely the best!!!

I enjoyed going to class and learned a lot. Mr. Rodgers on the other hand was always late to class. Never responded to his emails. He was absent for a couple days and didn't email any of the students or put a note no the door. He gives you a chance to make up work but very strict on grading. I noticed that he also favors students. Good luck!

Mr. Rodgers is the worst professor I have ever had. He is VERY picky on how things should be done and does not help you fix your mistakes. He is hardly ever in class or his office. He taught me that he knows everything and that I was always wrong. Do yourself a favor and do not sign up for him.
Definitely one of the worst professors I've had in my 3 years at Henry Ford, he doesn't explain his assignments enough. After he assigns a project he will assign another one to work on when the first one isn't even done. He showed up late to class almost everyday and was very sarcastic. You will be teaching yourself if you take him. DON'T DO IT.
Really on of the worst, he is actually not that hard, but he does not explain the assignments well,he always comes in after 30-40 mins of the class, and when he gives an assignment the next day he gives another one.

BEST TEACHER EVER! I would recommend him to anybody who loves English or not. He is not hard & he helps you out and lets you revise your papers. He also jokes around with us and we have a good time. I don't have any complaints with him. He's amazing best English teacher ever.
Great class. There is a lot of writing and it takes open minded thinking. I learned a lot from this class and not just in writing but learning why people do things they do based on their circumstances. He is late every day, count on that. You do have to take time and put effort into your papers. It's called being an adult.
He's okay but grading is off, also he always comes late to class and keeps us 15 mins after class.

Three words to describe him: Down -to-EARTH! By far the coolest professor I have EVER had. He makes class fun, gives realistic feedback and reasonable assignments. Took him for ENG131 and I'm returning back for 132. Definitely a MUST take professor. Do the work, don't miss class... easy A.
Hilarious! Love the class, always find my self laughing. His essay grading is okay and fair. Oh one more thing his final exam is easyyyyy! Not even an essay. Study the study guide and that all u need to pass. I wish I took him for 132 :(

Had Professor Rodgers for last years fall semester, I am only here because of the slander Im seeing on his name here. Dont let the recent ignorant comments fool you, this is one of the best and most interesting teachers at HFC. He makes class enlightening not through just great lectures but great stories and theories outside of the subject as well.

Professor Rodgers is an amazing instructor and I would seriously recommend taking his class. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to teach life skills in addition to writing. He gives great feedback on papers and helps you get an A. You have to try really hard to get below a B in his class. Very easy going and lets you print in class.

Be expecting to write papers back to back !! Each paper is at least 6+. And each essay is due within week an a half of the day he assigns the paper. Ridiculous! Very cocky says He makes 6 figures so him being late to class doesnt matter. I respect professor Rodgers because he did teach well. But the due dates and how he wants his paper is extra.
He was a good lecturer, he didn't just talk about the subject but about the world it's self. The only thing that was bad was that he grades essays a little harsh, like each conjunction is a point off and don't use past tense talking about literature. You do need to read a lot of the stuff, but that's a given taking an english class.
I took him for English 131, first of all on the first day of class he let you guys know that you probably wont get it in his class and you will have to work for it. And even if you work for it you probably wont get it either. His directions are confusing and his quizzes are very hard and he never curves them.
Honestly, my favorite english class I've ever taken. Such great discussions in lectures. He is not too tough of a grader and if you take notes on what he discusses you should be fine. He will help if you have any questions and even does meetings to discuss your grade halfway through the semester. Best teacher ever!

I took Professor Rodgers online during the pandemic. Professor Rodgers was very clear about everything in class. Always answers questions and willing to meet you through Zoom for additional explanation.
He's a great teacher. The class was a "business english" class so it was very laidback and easy. He's a funny teacher. Talks to student as if they are equal to him. The final paper was us telling him what grade we believe we deserve. I obviously said I deserved an A (I deserved a B but have to shoot your shot,) He gave an A-. Take his class!

Took Mr. Rodgers in Winter 2020. Likely my most important class throughout HFC as I carried more skills from it than any other. Effectively teaches you how to write in APA format, communicate in a business setting, as well as writing up resumes, memos, and other important documents. Was very accommodating when the pandemic set in. Great overall.
There are not that many things to be graded from (100 points in total), and he's very picky with grading. He also formats things a little differently than how the book wants it. He attended 2 funerals this semester, so I can't give much feedback on how fast he grades and responds. It was stressful not knowing what my grade was during the semester.
Poor with grading in a timely manner. High expectations for an Intro class. He expects you to know things that have not been gone over yet. Difficult to reach, responds to emails 3-4 weeks later. Rude and makes unnecessary comments. I felt like I was in Sociology or Psych not English with topics of assignments.
As an intro to an English class, his expectations are too high. He never responds to emails, and takes weeks to submit grades for assignments. There is only 85 points for the entire class, and he is a tough grader. He gave feedback on the first few assignments, but I haven't gotten feedback on assignments since. 83% in his class is considered a C.

Not a lot of points in class, so if you do bad on one paper good luck getting your grade up. Doesn't release term paper grade. told me he gave me a B- because he was being "generous" Im a 4.0 student up until now.
Hes a very picky grader. He gives worthy feedback on papers. It seem like getting an A in his class would be obtained by people thats really pursuing writing. Im not a lazy student either, I strive for and maintain As in all of my classes. The papers are a breeze but even double checking, going step by step on how he wants it landed me a B- smh

Extremely picky grader too and NEVER EVER grades assignments on time. Im a 4.0 student until this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM EVEN IF U THINK IT MIGHT BE OK
He never grades work on time and makes the excuse that its because its harder online. You will not know ur grade until the end of the semester and will only give you feedback on the first few assignments. Extremely picky for a person who doesnt try himself.

Not clear how he wants assignments set up (font, style, etc). then complains about it in his feedback, gives you a C for every assignment because of stupid things like font style and citing, he looks at every little thing you do & takes so many points off for minor mistakes, I used to get all A's

This was honestly the worst experience I've ever had with a professor. He does NOT respond to emails (in an online class), and is incredibly unfair with his grading. I am in contact with all the students in this class, and not a single student received above an 80% on any assignment. That is insane, and this guy is awful. Avoid at all costs!!!!
Honestly surprised I ended up with a B in the course. This guy is really condescending and overall pretty negative along with being really nit picky in his feedback. I received one A in the class and I was pretty proud of myself when that happened lol.
I did all the work for this class, never summitted anything late, yet for every assignment I turn in he manages to deduct me points. He responded to one of my assignment saying "Great job this sounds good" yet he took away points with no explanation. It's not that I don't put in the work, it's that he has such high standards and is very picky.
He does not answer emails or respond to Moodle in any timely manner. He only decided to respond after I reached out to advising for his superior's email. Overall bad experience and would not recommend this teacher.
(Fall 2022). His jokes keep the room lively. Honestly was hard for me to get an A on any assignment. He would take points for the smallest error. The assignments were easy, but to get a good grade put in the extra effort on design elements or presentation. Final exam was an easy multiple choice, and a final report. Participate and ask questions.
Pr. Rodgers is very clear on his assignments and grading scale. This class was a hybrid class and usually gave assignments a week to complete. Group Projects he gave us a good two weeks time. I think the assignments were fair for the class and submission was fair. Great personality and is very kind.
the class is out of 100 points so literally every point matters. Make sure youre a pro at formatting ur essays right because he will take off a lot of points. doesn't give actual feedback on ur work, only complains about ur formatting.
I am someone who loves writing, he made me hate it. If you are someone who wants an A and usually gets them, do not take this class! He refuses to give out A's even if they are deserved. He has an incredibly small grading scale and will take points off for the simplest formatting mistake. Very picky with what he wants you to write as well.
I rewrote this a few times and that's more effort than this professor puts into communicating. Take this class if you like ambiguous instructions, the inability to work ahead, and day-of due dates. It's an inflexible course for no good reason and I'm so tired of dealing with profs like this.

he's just a funny guy, really good lecturer. the thing is though his feedback is lacking so for example if you hand in a 60% worthy rough draft, he's usually only gonna give you enough feedback to get you up to an 80% unless you really push for criticism.

This is one of the WORST english professors you can take at henry ford gives little to no feedback in your actual writing, only complains on the format and comes up with new format complainants for each new assignment you turn in. If you dont want an A take this class because he doesnt ever give out A's no matter how much effort you put. Terrible.

Tough grader, but lectures are engaging. Frequent feedback, though lacking at times. Unstuck study proved helpful for review. Overall a challenging but worthwhile class.

I'm struggling in this class because my teacher rarely responds to emails, and the grading feels unclear. Assignments often lack enough instructions, making it hard to know what's expected. We also had to buy a $60 book that we've never used, which feels unfair and unnecessary.
He doesn't teach, he just vibes with the syllabus while gaslighting students into thinking they're the problem. Clear explanations? Nonexistent. Fair grading? Random at best. Worst academic experience ever. Do not take a class with this man unless you hate yourself.
Rodgers is a decent professor, but be warned... he LOATHES contractions. You WILL get marked down if you use contractions in your writing. In fact, I think that is why a lot of people are saying they got bad grades. He is fine otherwise. My only other criticism is that he goes on way too many tangents. Do not buy the textbook, we never used it.

Professor Rodgers breaks it down for you; he makes sure you understand precisely what you are doing in English 131. I struggle with a TBI from a car accident that I was in: he understood my situation and gave me grace because of it. Professor Rodgers is no joke, and his class is not for the weak. I decided to take English 135 for the fall of 2025.
he's not that bad of a professor. If you follow instructions correctly and do your work on time, it wouldn't be hard.Not gonna lie he stressed me out on the first essay,I thought I had to finish in class and submit in class,but he's actually very understanding and gives you time.I don't like writing, but this class is not bad.Don't buy the textbook
I would rather transfer to another school to avoid Rodgers. We had mandatory office meetings with him one on one for our essays each time. He would tell me how good it was and then proceed to give me a 70 each time! I went to seek help one time and he was very rude in a group session mocking my work that I did based off his instruction!
