AWSOME teacher. Very easy. Very helpful. I took him in summer and it was great. EASY "A" baby!!!
Very clear/concise professor. Great at explaining influences of art throughout the centuries & in turn made the class a lot easier!
Greatest professor! very clear and knows his stuff really well. Great sense of humor too. EASY A.
Hahaha, he's a funny dude. Stops mid-sentence and excuses the class for sometimes no apparent reason. He's my favorite proffesor because he knows what he's talking about and has no crazy accent like a lot of teachers do.
Gotta tell you, he's the BEST. No crazy accent, and not boring at all. Knows what he is teaching, and teaches with lots of fun. Definitley an easy A class. This is my first quarter, and he made my quarter worth. fun fun. Take 4 hrs class, and go out early
Unbelievably easy.....gives you exactly whats going to be on the test and thats all you need.....don't need to show up everyday...not mindnumbingly boring either
My first class at De Anza, awesome teacher. Hard not to sleep if early in the morning though because he shuts off the lights. He reminds me of Ned Flanders.
AN awesome teacher.. definately recommend to those who are trying to maintain their GPA at high level..very easy and straight forward teacher. No Surprises in the exam.
I'm going to be straightforward about Mr. Roehl: easy A. I mean there's not much work to do but study for quizzes and tests, don't even need to buy the book. He has an interesting way of relating art history with society today. Tells the greatest stories.
the professore to be in. he teaches good, very understanding, amd fun to be with. come to his lectures, do his extra credits, and oh attendence is very imp#1. and yah sit in front of his class. A+
This guy knows his stuff. As long as you go to lecture, maybe answer a few of his questions here and there, and study for the vocab quizzes, you'll get an A without even having to buy the book for this class. Nice guy, too.
His lecture is quite difficult to understand sometimes. But his exams are fairly easy. He has a good sense of humor and makes the class laugh. He understands what students need. When he knows students tired, he will let us go eariler. A good teacher!
take him! he is so0 easy!! didnt even go to the museum for my research paper, made stuff up and still gave me an A! but neways, he is still the best art history teacher at de anza... him, rushing and brennan you are guaranteed A's =)
He's very very nice.Enjoy those visual arts with his interesting and understanding lecture each class, and don't spend more time after class.Have a review before exam, easy to get A's,even for ESL students.
This class is easy if you actually study. He's a nice guy but so anal about attendance!! The class is pretty fun but like all classes, it gets boring. Recommended if you study.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
easiest class at DeAnza...its an easy A
he's the best teacher in De Anza, take his class! you'll learn a lot!
Mr.Roel is the easiest teacher I've ever had. I recommend this class to anyone that needs to take an art class.
Great Class, wonderful teacher. Paul Roehl makes art interesting and easy to understand. Take this class.
Easy A. I got A's from both of the classes I took with him. Class is boring sometimes but it is very easy. He gives the questions one week before the midterm and final, so it is easy. And one essay -also very easy. If you want to boost up your GPA and learn something about art take his class.
I really like Mr. Roehl's personality. He's very nice and has a clear voice. I took his class to get my GE and also because on this site he was rated as a very easy teacher. Now I happy!! He was very easy.
his lectures were kinda boring n long; rarely let the class go home earily. but he's a nice teacher n sometimes funny too. just make sure u go to the review days for the test n there should be nothing to worry about.
Very nice, sincere, and funny. He's an artist himself so really knows the stuff and can explain it. He's also easy to approach and helpful. He really wants everyone to do well and appreciate art. Great class. Would take him again.
very easy class, just show up to class n' take notes you'll be fine. He does a really good job of preparing you for the exams
He is REALLY cool. I love his sense of humor; kind of monotoned but just hilarious. Art is really interesting, but try not to take the 4 hour lecture on Saturdays! It is torture. Very easy class, just attend and do minor studying.
He is so nice and extremely funny! I love his class. He has great personality, if he was younger, I might fall in love with him!
He is really funny, and the class is hellaaa easy. Almost all the answer for the exams and vocab quizzes he gives u ahead of time. Just memorize it, then you are totally fine on it. Highly Recommand on this GREAT TEACHER!
just show up to class and study the studyguides he gives you berfore exams and you will pass with at least a B. i got an A and im not very smart
He is good and bad. I wouldn't recommend him but that is my opinion. there r lotta other people who love him and like the way he teaches. He goes really fast through the material. Yeah as the other student mentioned he goes through the quiz and slides really fast. But he helps students in panic.
veryyyy easy!!! unless you meet envious classmate!!! if you get a bad grade in midterm, he will assign you an extra credit, and even if he doesn't you can for it.
His class is extremely easy. 3 vocab quizes, 1 museum project, 1 midterm and 1 final. He gave us a study sheet before midterm and final. He also reviewed everything before the midterm and final. The tests are pretty straight foward. EXTREMELY EASY A. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!
those who said they failed probably didnt even bother to attend his lecture. if they did and failed then i dunno how they r going to pass other classes from de anza. All u need to do is attend the lecture be4 the midterms bcuz he tells u EXACTLY wht is in the midterm. Seriously it cant get any easier and he is funny. Go to his lecture if ur depress
Totally hilarious and cool guy, and I also learned a lot of stuff from him because he knows what he's talking about. Just go to class once or twice a week at least, anyone who fails his art history classes are just pathetic, he gives all the answers to everything ahead of time and gives loads of chances for extra credit, i definietly recommend him!
Roehl is a good teacher. He's pretty funny and admits that the class it one of the easiest classes at De Anza. He does help students who panic as well. Very fair, and tells you exactly what to study for before the tests. Overall easy A if you go to the review sessions and pay attention.
Overall a nice teacher. He has a very funny dry sense of humor. Lectures can get downright boring and snoozey. He makes you take trips to art museums on your own and write about paintings that are on display there. Easy A, just study for vocabs quizzes and do your essays and you'll be fine. Drink lots of caffeine prior to coming to his slideshows!
Roehl is a funny guy. Class is easy, but you may fall asleep during the slideshow lectures (dim lights, comfortable chair, boring art lecture = sleep). 2 vocab tests, midterm, final project (go to a museum & write about 10 paintings), and final. Very easy if you go to review sessions (he tells you what you need to know for tests). Easy A! TAKE HIM!
I like him so much! He is so smart and educated. I highly recommend him.
He's funny and helpful. He makes art so easy to understand. If u can't get A from his class then u can't get any A in other class. Extremely recommended!
He is good but not nice. You can get an A if you go to class everyday and review. He grades easily. Highly recommend if you want a good grade.
Roehl totally rocks! He is laid back but at the same time you can't help but understand what he is teaching cause he makes sure to emphasize what is important about the pieces. I recomend him but beware of the summer sessions cause they are really brutal.
I took his class during summer. I actually liked his class, he tells you exactly what he wants, what you need to know, and repeats himself so you can not mess it up. I would tell you to take him.
All you need to get an A is come on review day and he'll give all the quiz and midterm answers. You can even use an index card for the tests.
He is soo nice and extremely easy. He is just a respectable and wise man. His lectures are actually very clear and he interesting. I fell asleep( which is hard not to do when he is lecturing because it is in a dark comfy cozy auditorium). Take him!!
this guy is really laid back.....he makes his lectures interesting and he actually gives you all the answers brfore the test EASY A i would recommend everybody to take it.
I didn't end up needing it, but he gives out lots of extra credit so that if you do horribly on the midterms [which are more like lengthy quizzes on material that is mostly common sense] you can do well. He tries to make the tests as easy as possible so everybody will do well.
Great professor and a man of knowledge. very student oriented and lectures are pretty educating. tests are not that easy, they rely on sharp memory skills. extra credit is hard to get full points on. do not sleep in his class, or he will ask u to leave. don't buy the book either, u will not use it at all. overall, his class was a great experience
very easy wakaka, come in during review and study you will get A and the project is easy to wakaka..
MUST TAKE HIM IF U WANT TO GET a A...
TAKE HIM!!!! Best teacher at De Anza! Extremely easy class and you must get an A! Exams are really easy, be sure to attend the class before the exams cuz he will tell us all the meanings of the words and paintings. He knows arts well and if you pay attention, you learn a lot! His sense of humor makes the class more fun! DUN HESITATE!!!
To the guys reading this, take the class, learn what he's teaching, go to art galleries, meet interesting women by being genuinely interested in art or at least knowing your stuff, works really well. Could have cared less about art before I took this class, now a new world has opened up to me. Plus Paul is a cool dude.
Paul is cool guy. take him!!!! Highlyy recommended
SUPER EASY TO GET AN A!! if ur trying to satisfy GE, and wanna raise ur GPA, TAKE HIM!! hes helpful, cool , and just makes all the boring stuff easy to understand and he's practical! recommend him!
EASY EASY A. the best teacher. 3 midterms and a final. it could NOT have been any easier. he basically tells u what comes out for the exam. there is a term paper...where u'll hv to go to a museum and write a paragraph on the works of art...really easy to do it and he is easy on the grading. its check minus, check and a check plus. no A, B or C. eas
I took four of Paul's classes Arts 2A, 2B,2C,2D. I love his teaching style. The way he teaches you never have to buy a book. That saves you money. He explains everything that's going to be on the exams. The museum project is only to get us to view art. He's totally understanding. Because of his class I chose art history, to be my major.
Second time taking him for an art history class, and he is still fantastic. The best thing about him is that you can get as much or as little out of his class as you want. Want a great grade? Super easy. Want to actually learn about art? Pay attention. Amazing ability to get today's youth interested in art.
Really easy laid back class; just take notes on some slides. it's also very interesting, and Roehl really knows his stuff. Ask questions and listen since it's interesting, but not really necessary. the tests are very easy.
Attend class. He gives you everything you need to succeed in lecture. Textbook not needed. He has two exams and two vocab quizzes and one paper. For the quizzes and exams he goes over everything you need to know beforehand. They are all multiple choice and very straightforward if you came to class. Paper is short and simple. Very Easy class
Great guy, he's my favorite art history teacher. I went to every class and you could tell he appreciated those who stuck around (gave extra credit to those who stayed after quiz's etc.) Actually taught the subject well and tests weren't hard, all multiple choice unlike the other teachers who have essays.
This class is easy! Just go to the class and take some notes during class. There are two quizzes, two exams and one paper. Quizzes and exams are really easy because he will tell you every detail that he wanted u to kno, and just study and memorize it. Not hard at all. The paper is easy too. Recommended!!!!! never open the textbook.
Very good professor, and very good and easy class. Attendance is key, especially after the midterm. If too many people skip, he gives pop quizzes, which are always super-easy, and worth points. Never used the book. The quizzes and tests were easy, as we reviewed EVERYTHING in class. One paper that requires going to a museum.
Fun teacher who tries to make a boring subject interesting. Very easy A, just make sure to study the vocab list and the slide list before the tests.
Very clear, concise; really makes the subject interesting and teaches so that ANYONE can grasp the basics; if you listen enough you'll find he imparts interesting details as well too. Attendance is important b/c of pop quizzes (plus extra points now and then) but he is pretty lenient about due dates. Highly recommend, esp for Art History classes.
Nice guy. Thought I'd get an A but ended with B+. Easy class though.
Teacher is really funny and kind. He obviously knows what he is talking about and has traveled and seen many of the pieces himself. He is very helpful and willing to answer any questions.Tests are simple he does light review, Just make sure to study vocab/slide handouts. Book is not mandatory but is slightly more helpful.
Amazing professor, extremely clear and comprehensive. He really knows his stuff! I think he has traveled the world from how knowledgable he is. I have much better knowledge of art around me because of his class. Definitely recommend.
Amazing teacher, I would highly recommend him to anyone needing to take this class. He makes the subject interesting and easy to remember. Very nice and laid back. It is very important that you show up to class, to not miss any of the information. Tests and quizzes are simple, all multiple choice.
This teacher is cool. Funny guy. We had few exams which he went over answers before the test. Had to go to the Art Museum to write about 10 art work. I admit I failed most of the exams haha but he gave Extra credit and it brought me up to a B at the end which is shocking But no complaints here! =) RECOMMENDED!
he is awesome. no way to pass. I just want to say he is very kind and nice.
Took Summer Session. Go to class b/c he takes attendance and is already nice enough to let students out early. Study for 2 vocab quizzes, 1 painting quiz, & Final. Write a museum art research paper. No need to buy textbook.
Took Summer Session. Attend class b/c he takes attendance & is already nice enough to let the class out early. Study for 2 vocab quizzes, 1 paintings quiz, & Final. Write a museum art research paper. No need to buy textbook.
I love him so much he is the best teacher in the world. Take him he is very nice and his lecture is very clear.
One of the nicest and best professors at De Anza. He's truly passionate about art which makes the students passionate too.Take a class with him if you can. He is by far the best art teacher at De Anza. The class is easy, attendance is mandatory, and you don't need to buy a book. It's a stres free class if you show up everyday and pay attention.
He's absolutely a great teacher and he explained everything really clear. He's definitely recommended. Don't buy textbook. If you are not satisfied with your scores, approach him. He'll certainly help you to get an A. Attendance is extremely a compulsory!
He is an awesome professor and you can tell that he is passionate with the subject he teaches. I took 3 different classes with him and honestly, I walked out of this class with knowledge. His attendance is mandatory and he hates it when students walk in and out during lecture. DONT TALK IN CLASS!
I never thought that I would like history this much... I enjoy listening to his lectures. I am taking this class this quarter and I am in love with this class. You can learn so many things about art and the professor is THE BEST. Will take more art history classes in future with him.
Great Teacher, worth your time to take Pre Christian Art. He is not boring and you will learn a lot. Dont be a jerk and talk in his class. This teacher deserves respect for all the help he is willing to give to his students. Take good notes and you will do fine.
Easy A! The professor is very passionate about what he is teaching. He is also very funny. If you didn't do well on the few quizzes/tests (which are very easy), he gives you many extra credit opportunities to raise your grade.
One of the easiest professors I have ever taken! He is extremely kind and has a subtle, but hilarious sense of humor. Tests and quizzes are so ridiculously easy that it's embarrassing if you don't get at least a low A. I wasn't very interested in the class at first, but he made the class extremely fun and enjoyable. He's amazing!
Trust me!!!!! He is one of the royally good teacher in De anza. Thank you for your teaching, Mr. roel. U can learn a lot from him.
I like him, he is really nice and kind. I wish I can take his classes next quarter.
I took him for all art history classes to fulfill my prerequisite. I think he just started teaching beginning drawing last quarter and I was stoked to take his course. There's not one day I missed his class cause his teaching was very clear and projects was very fun. He is absolutely one of a kind who truly loves art! Must take him
I like him so much! He is a good teacher. TAKE HIM! NO REGRETS!
His lectures are quite boring sometimes, especially when you study after lunch. However, in general, he's funny and very passionate about arts. His review before each quiz or exam is extremely helpful for you. That day you have to come to class no matter what to get a good great. Overall, easy A class. No textbook needed. Highly recommend!
Took a summer class class with Mr. Roehl and he's the best. 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final and of course, a trip to the museum. Super easy class if you put in the work. Extra credit given if you did not do well on midterm and quizzes. Super nice professor! Definitely take his class if you can.
Took him over the summer, ridiculously easy class and amazing lectures. Even though i was asleep in his class 75% of the time, he made sure we know what was expected on each assignment. No textbook required, 3 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, all extremely easy and a trip to the Cantor Art Museum. Would definately take him again if I could!
His classes were pretty boring. I sleep through most of class while he lectured. A lot of people usually skipped class, and thats when he would give out pop quizzes, but they were just one question, super easy. There's 2 vocab quizzes, 1 midterm, and a final but he goes over all the terms before every test, super easy. Recommend taking him!
His lecture is amazing. Attendance is not mandatory but he will give pop quizzes if not too many students show up. Pop quizzes can help you to obtain many extra credit. Lecture is little difficult for foreigners like me. One museum project. He will give you make-up quiz for a valid excuse. I got 86% on final but recommend him for anyone love arts.
One of the best teachers at De Anza!
Roehl is very passionate about his stuff. His lectures are a bit boring but as long as you show up to class, you'll pass. He gives pop quizzes which will make a difference. Show up, study the topics he gives you, and do good on the project and you'll do fine.
Take him if you know the way to get an A. 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 museum project and 1 final.
Despite the fact that his lectures can seem to drone on and on, he is highly knowledgeable and passionate about art, and his lectures are actually very interesting once you start to pay attention. Funny guy and you will get an A as long as you briefly study before the 2 exams and quizzes.
Ocean park series of Richard Diebenkorn's art sketches-permanent painting is on your test for Arts-2D. A thesis that allows you to receive an A plus grade from his course is as easy as modern art secco thesis.
They probably pay for othe art theory director to say there are lines in nature to prod non-reticulated femme self-identities to prove otherwise, just as another art history professor may claim as a depiction of a generalized high femme, that you're not to take your hand off of your drawing paper as you sketch a face as Gewaschen(ambiguous shapes)
An A thesis in this course s easy as for his homework of art analysis could be as high brow of or negative motivation: Haberma's found art or Hitler's elite art with a ironic femme subversion, of how if the metallic modern pencil shimmers, then smack it for mute-ness because it's much more romantic for the artist to sketch metallic realism w/o.
you can get an easy a with not doing any work and learn nothing but then why take the class. unless if you desperately are looking for something to waste all of your time or genuinely enjoy boring art, find something better to take that you will actually enjoy.
He is really really nice. I took his class the first quarter I came to De Anza. I met some problems with my language. But he is so patient and explained all the concepts to me many times. I really appreciate his help. He retired. But it is so great that I had a chance to take his class. I thank him for his help.
Professor Roehl is one of those professors that care if you care. His class, overall, is easy but there's a ton of information that's actually informative. His quizzes, tests, and paper are lenient, but they're all lecture heavy. Oh, and the girl next to me cheated and he caught her. She's done for.
He's very lenient in grading. Even if you somehow managed to get a low score on your exam, he gives extra credit. His classes are lecture-based; he goes over some artworks which are projected in front. There's a term project that requires you to visit an art museum, but it's not too hard. He's a funny guy. Overall, I enjoyed taking his class.
Super easy class. It was pretty boring though imo. He's the kind of teacher that goes like "and the capital of italy is..." and waits for the class to respond but nobody responds.
I took his class in my first quarter, and now I miss it a lot. I love his sense of humor, and even though his lectures can go on forever at times, he's clearly passionate about art. Once you start paying attention, it gets quite interesting. He's super lenient as well. You won't regret taking his class!
Informative, interesting, chill class. No hw besides the art report. He does a review that covers most material a day before the test. Lectures occasionally made me sleepy, and class may get boring without a friend - both small cons. He's very kind, so don't abuse it by being disrespectful or disrupting class. He accepted waitlisted students.
A gem teacher, makes class fun, enjoyable and easy. Take him if you need to take and arts class at some moment!
weekly quiz with 5 tries, 1 midterm, 1 final, 3 pg essay on a piece of art, 1 museum report on 15 pieces of art. Very knowledgeable on the subject. Sometimes asks questions during lectures and won't move on until a student says the exact answer. Since he's a nice old man, you will give him a pass tho. he literally says his class is an easy A class.
Easiest class I've ever taken. If you need an Arts class for GE or whatever reason and want an A, take Professor Roehl. He doesn't care about the bs, he just wants you to learn. Does a review for the midterm and final, you show up for that you ace the class. You also need to visit a museum but that's super easy. Or you can write a paper instead.
This is my second class with him. He is so knowledgeable and nice person. You can learn about art and art history and pass the class without any stress. I really recommend taking his class.
The best Art history teacher. His lectures are very insightful and interesting and the class is very laid back and relaxing, very easy and enjoyable. Hes very passionate about Art and is very good at explaining its concepts. Highly recommend!
A really easy going course. He said he didn't want to make the class hard for people taking it as a GE. Midterm and Final art works are all covered in a prior lecture. No surprises, so you'll have all the answers you need for the exams. One paper that doesn't need citation and you will get full points if you follow the requirements.
Professor Roehl is the best professor I have ever had!
Super interesting lectures that give you all the information you need to do well. It's clear that Professor Roehl wants every student to succeed. Quizzes are easy if you pay attention, and you have multiple tries. Just show up to class (especially the review lectures), pay attention, and keep track of the vocab list.
Super easy class. There are weekly lectures and a few online quizzes that we can retake if needed. The lectures could get a little boring at times, but I still enjoyed the class.
Paul's class slayed. Zoom lectures were posted and you did not have to watch them, and after midterm there were not any assignments other than finals. Take this if you want an easy A. Also just super chill guy
Super chill. I went to most zoom classes, and it's pretty long lectures, but if you're really interested in the material you'll have an alright time. He's been doing this for a while and knows what he's doing, also the final project is super simple and grades pretty easy. He's pretty lenient too :)
Paul's class was an easy A. He wants his students to succeed, just do the work. Weekly/bi-weekly quizzes based on the lectures and 1 paper. Would recommend!
he deserves trillions of 5. If someone thinks he is not great, then obviously he is query the world.
Really sweet guy. Let plenty of students in with an add-code. His lectures can be really long, but he is passionate and explains a lot of detail. Expects you to attend class, but has yet to give us a pop quiz to enforce it. Weekly quizzes are online with 2 attempts. He also does a midterm exam and a final paper which is a museum report.
really really easy. His weekly assignment has no time limits and 2 attempts each. His class was so chill, that I almost forgot about it. Lectures can get boring but I recommend taking notes. Only one paper at the end of the quarter. Thanks to him, I have time to focus on my other classes.
Prof. Roehl is great. I took his class after both my son and daughter took his class. His online lecture is great. He remember everything and just show an image and talk. He does not have slide so you have to take note yourself. However, it is easy to get good grade from his class if you write the paper and study his test prep material.
He's kind and passionate about art. He gave a lot of add codes, so show up on the first day anyways. Lecture-heavy, but tries to lighten the mood with jokes here and there. Weekly quizzes based on lecture material. A museum report for the final (you have to go in-person). Easy A!
Super cool teacher, easy course, and only later did I find his artwork online! 10/10
He makes the class very easy because he knows most of the students are there for GE credits. Weekly online quizzes, but very easy, especially if you pay some attention to his lectures.
Roehl's ART2B is a super chill class. Lectures are straightforward, and the final project is easy. Just stay engaged and use resources like unstuckstudy to ace the tests for an easy A.
the class isn't difficult but he doesn't really tell you what the pieces he talks about actually are, who they're done by, or approximate dates, so that makes studying difficult (especially since he expects you to know all the details of majority of the pieces). i realized this and started doing my own research rather than notes on his lectures
Prof Rohel is very passionate about teaching and he genuinely cares about the students. We had to take few quizzes online, one midterm and one final, 2 attempts allowed and one museum report. This class is very easy, just show up. Only thing that I had difficulty was sitting there for 2 hrs, I wish he had given us breaks in between :)
He is a great professor who loves his subject. He is very compassionate and goes out of his way to help his students. Just attend his lectures and write one museum report, and you will get an A.
Amazing guy. Genuinely passionate and knows what he's doing. Check out his art!
He takes great pride in art, and it truly shows in how much he cares for his students. He's generous, humorous, and carries himself with genuine class. If you stay engaged and attend regularly, this class could be one of the best experiences you'll have.
Super chill and humorous. 5 - 6 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, all MCQs, and one museum report(have to go to the museum in person). As long as you pay attention in class and make notes (he does not upload lectures on Canvas), you will get an A. He knows most people are there for G.E. credits, so he makes the class interesting and easy to understand.
My class (winter 25) was online async so it was all pre-recorded lectures (although you had the option to join them live). Lectures were a little boring ngl. But easy quizzes and course content, and he's very in depth when it comes to midterm or final reviews.
