The instructor has good knowledge of the course material and he teaches in a professional level. His tests are pretty tough, but very helpful for final comprehensive test given by HCC systemwide. He is a very cool instructor, jovial, and helpful.
Smooth moving class. Professor Roy taught me alot about organic chem. II and had a blast do it. Labs where easy and helped to better understand organic chemistry.
This professor knows what he is talking about. His labs were great and fun. He is easy-going and will go out of his way to make sure his students pass. He is great help. Take him.... and don't forget Organic chem II is naturally hard. Great Prof!!
Prof. Roy is a great guy. He takes his time and makes sure everyone in the class understands the material. He goes over lots of problems that are similar to what shows up on the tests. It really helped! So attend class and take good notes! He wants everyone to do well!
Helpful, energetic, interesting.Even thoug chemistry is not a easy subject, thanks to him my experience of studying chemistry was very interesting. As a result I decided to take more classes on chemistry, since now I have a good base on it.
Prof. Roy is a super nice person. He dedicates a lot of time to help every student in the class to understand the lecture material. He also goes over every problem in the chapters. This would help a lot for the tests. He always encourages everyone to study and do well in the class. His lab experiments are very interesting as well.
NOT A GOOD TEACHER. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN, DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Thank God I had a decent teacher for the first part of organic chemistry. He does not lecture. He only works through the problems that appear in the chapter. Be prepared to teach this material to yourself. Test averages were usually in the 50s.
Mr. Roy is a great teacher who really takes the time to help all of his students. He goes over every problem in the book and gives a review sheet before every test that really helps. The key to passing his class is to study. Orgo is difficult but if you show up for lectures, study the review and practice the problems, you'll pass his class.
He races through lectures - focusing mainly on the problems at end of each section (labs are a joke in that he just lets the students do whatever). tests not too difficult-key is to buy a study guide/solutions manual that goes w/ the book. Get through as many problems as you can, don't spend too long on any 1 problem; make outlines of chapters...
Prof. Roy, is an amazing person. We all know that Organic Chemistry is one of the toughest subjects, but Mr. Roy made learning fun. He truly helps students ubderstand the subject. He also stays after class to make sure that any students with questions are helped. His lab was also helpful in understanding the concepts of organic chemistry.
I took Prof. Roy for Organic Chem II. He is an excellent professor, and he was always willing to clarify concepts during class and outside of class. Organic chemistry is a challenging subject, but if you work through his problems and pay attention to Dr. Roy's lectures, you will be fine.
Very Intelligent, and hard working, I gained a lot from him and from the course too. Highly recomend him.
VERY HELPFUL TEACHER.WANTS EVERYBODY TO PASS AND WILL ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS,SO PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS EVERY TIME YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND SOMETHNG.AVAILABLE ON HIS CELL PHONE, SO YOU CAN CALL HIM ANYTIME. IF HE DOESN'T ANSWER HE WILL RETURN YOUR CALL FOR SURE.YOU WILL NEED THE BOOK.VERY KNOWLEDGAEBLE.IT WAS A FUN CLASS FOR ME.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
Very intelligent instructor. However he teaches too advanced for a basic (intro) chem class. If you do the end of the chapter questions..you will be sorta okay. He graded on a curve...that helped alot.
He is a great and very smart professor; always in a good mood. First time taking Chemistry and I like it a lot. He was very helpful and answered every question I had. A review before each test. Working in the labs was an exciting experience. I passed the class with an ?A? and I highly recommend him for your next science class.
this was my first semester at hcc.I enjoyed it and this class increased my interest in chemistry.I got an A he is fair and nice teacher
There is so much material to cover in this class. You just fly through the chapters. Prof. Roy got us through the material easily, and the department final was a breeze.
Dr. Paul Roy is very nice and helpful instructor at both lab class and lecture class during I took the CHIM 1405. I always asked him some questions during and after class, he always explains those questions more detail than I expect and also he is very knowledgeable. He is always available for helping you to achieve your course goal.
Dr. Paul Roy is very nice and helpful instructor at both lab class and lecture class during I took the CHEM 1405. I always asked him some questions during and after class, he always explains those questions more detail than I expect and also he is very knowledgeable. He is always available for helping you to achieve your course goal.
Pay attention to your notes. He uses the text book as a guide and teaches from what he knows. Test questions come from the book. Bottom line: Study your notes, work out the example problems at the end of the chapters and you'll be prepared. Great prof, fair, funny. He can get sidetracked, but the info is fascinating if not /completely/ relevant. ++
He's really easy but his tests are very very chalenging. The average of the class is 23/40 for every tests. He's very nice. You mostly study on ur own. He doesn't really teach at all. He doesn't count attendance.
Great and very helpful professor. He took his time to explain most examples in the text book. He showed respect for every student and made sure everyone felt comfortable in his class. He graded fairly. Great teacher!
Great Instructor..Highly recommended for chemistry especially organic which is alwayz a pain to most of us. He explains along side with exmaples and grades test fairly. He sets aside a day for review prior to takin' the test. He is the bomb!!!
professor Roy is a great professor.Organic chem is a hard subject but he explains in an easy way to understand his lectures. His tests are not hard, study his notes in the class, do the homework and the review that he gave. He graded the test fairly and give partial credit. Got an A in his class. Highy recommend to anyone want to take organic chem.
Dr. Roy is a very understanding professor. He is willing to go the extra mile to assist his student. He also allows a lot of after class time for for teaching. His class is an easy A.
He is a very nice person; he is willing to help students; he even gives students his phone number. Moreover, the laboratory session is made easy. Organic chemistry is a very hard course; it requires you to read and memorize the mechanism; Therefore, Professor Paul Roy is there to help you. He is nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. Good luck!!
he is so nice, helpful and friendly but his tests are challenging. You need to read the book, take notes and understand the review questions he gives you before every test. the tests include some questions in the review question. he is available to explain everything for you.the report for lab is only one page.recommend taking his class.^^
He is a wonderful teacher! If you have to take Organic Chemistry, there is no one better to take it from. He will teach you a lot, but is also generous with his grading. You can't go wrong!
This class is not very difficult if you're willing to work for it. Paul is always willing to take time to answer any question's you may have in order to clarify a concept. Word of advice: ALWAYS read ahead of time prior to lecture and do all of the practice q's for each chapter. Do that...guaranteed A.
Paul Roy is extremely helpful, and always open to questions. As long as you do your best follow along and pay attention in class, and can do the practice tests he hands out, you'll be fine. The grading is also QUITE generous
great teacher to have and very helpful in anyway possible....
Mr. Roy is very kind and helpful, and clearly well-versed in chem. I came into his class with previous ochem experience, but I was still able to learn a lot of things from Mr. Roy. His teaching helped me understand a lot of concepts that I'd struggled with in the past. Definitely take Mr. Roy! I now have an A in organic for my dental school app!
Professor Roy is great professor! Eager to teach and clarify things to where you get a full understanding. I previously took the course and did fair, but taking it again under Mr. Roy allowed me 2 understand better difficult concepts of O. Chem. He gives out practice tests and works out the problems 4rm the book. I got an A! I highly recommend him.
EASY CLASS! He grades on an extreme curve. He believes that students shouldn't fail & waste their money. Although, he will never really tell you what the curve is because there is no clear method to his madness. He is a little disorganized, but will always help you if you ask. Don't buy book at the bookstore bc he uses an old version. No Homework.
Easy teacher explains concept clearly. Easy A. His tests are easy as compared to other Organic I class. I took organic before with another teacher made life miserable, Professor Roy explained me the concepts which helped me make A in the class.
Highly recommended.Excellent teacher! A dedicated teacher who works hard to make students fulfill their potential. Class notes are brief and excellent. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand.
Best Organic Chemistry teacher who knows how to teach such a difficult subject. Before test he gives review which helps a lot.His class fills very fast, but upon request he may add you as he is a very nice person.Easy labs.
I highly recommend Professor Roy, he is a great teacher. He really strives to help his students and is always available to help. He does a review before his tests, very good and detailed question by question review. He also curves a lot which helps a lot. Take him, this is a difficult course and he really helps to understand it.You do need the book
This teacher is AWESOME!!!! Very helpful and he really tries to help his students in any way that he can. He also gives additional help by curving a few tests all because he wants the students to pass. Genuine and also very nice. All you have to do is try your best, pay attention, and you're guaranteed to pass his class.
I recommend Professor Roy. Although his class may be challenging, he is willing to sit with you and explain concepts that you do not understand. This isn't an easy class and you can't expect to get an A without putting some effort. His tests can be tough but his curves are awesome!
THIS PROFFESOR HAS A GREAT KNOWLEDGE ABOUT HIS MATERIAL, YOU WILL HAVE GREAT TEST REVIEW, HE IS AVAILABLE FOR HELP, WHENEVER YOU NEED HIM. I GOT EASY 'A', TAKE THIS TEACHER YOU WILL NEVER BE DISAPPOINTED.HIS LAB IS VERY HELPFUL TOO.{TAKE HIM}
Professor Roy is extremely helpful. While his class is challenging he gives you plenty of help and his reviews for tests are awesome. He also makes sure you are prepared for the departmental final for Chemistry 1301.
Great professor to take for Chemistry 1411. Does an awesome job of reviewing for exams and helping you learn material needed for the departmental final.
I've taken several science classes at HCC and this is one of the few that I've actually learned a lot from. I'm impressed by the quality of the lectures and the labs. The professor has a genuine interest in your learning and success-- very patient, makes it easy to ask questions during/after class, and thoroughly reviews for all exams.
Great Professor! I highly recommend Professor Roy... He is very smart and he is extremely helpful. The class is a bit challenging...As long as you do your best you'll be fine.
I highly recommend Professor Roy!!!!!
Prof. Roy is hands down genius with a big command of the subject matter.Fantastic resume posted.Very fast pace summer course.Hard tests. He is fair in all aspects.Works extremely hard to help students.Reading before hand (unless you wanna panic in class). Recommend.Labs are pain. You gotta prepare before class or expect your super confusion.
I took him for org 1.I loved that he doesn't make you do prelabs and postlab worksheets, just write 1 page about the lab and turn it in at the end of the semester. There's no HW but he recommends problems to do.He lectures straight from the textbook and he will actually tell you what to study the class before the test. He curves a bit at the end.
Take Him Now! He is one of few instructors that actually care about the student's success. O-Chem was a beast but Roy did his best to give all the needed help. Do your best, give it all you got,ask lots of questions and he'll meet you half way. Chem. does not have to be dreaded! Roy makes it as painless as possible. He's one of the good one's!
Took him for orgo1 in summer, it was very fast, he rushes through the pages and jumps to questions... half the class was lost the first day. Labs are completion. Try to read ahead, He's not a good teacher, Day b4 exam, he goes question by question so you know what to study. Very helpful, If your smart, the lowest youll get is a B. Didnt like him.
Amazing!
Organic in itself is extremely time consuming, especially in the summer. You have to give it 110% the whole 5 weeks but he makes it bearable. He is very helpful and curves at the end of the semester. Study his practice tests and read text. I made a surprisingly good grade even though I was not strong in gen. chem courses.
Very Great professor!
His lecture was not really clear, maybe he went too fast. But so far he is a good one and has a lot of passion for teaching
great teacher, he really knows his stuff and makes it easy for you to understand. He lectures from every chapter and covers the practice questions, no homework but if you want to pass you have to study hard and do practice problems, labs are easy, his test review comes from the test itself, attend class, write notes, study and you will pass
Professor Roy is always there before class if you have questions. For such a difficult class, he gives you the ability to succeed. Very straightforward and clear about what he expects from you, and lets you know what's most important for his tests.
A lot of memorization, but utilize outside resources. He's notices your hard work and effort.
Roy is a brilliant man and knows his Chemistry but he's not a very good teacher. Goes way too fast and it's hard to keep up, I had no idea what he was talking about half the time. Had to study on my own to actually understand the material. He does give good test reviews and curves at the end of the semester but I would not recommend him.
short classes. teacher knows his stuff. easy going. if u need help, ASK!!! he is more than willing to help, during class, after class, and via cell phone. dont expect him to give u a grade u dont deserve. u still gotta learn.
Easiest prof EVER!! Here's the low down to obtain an "A" in Dr. Roy's class: 1) pay attention to the material he reviews in class 2) practice 3)he tells you what's on the test,so no brainer duh! 4)practice, practice & practice. Come on ppl this is Ochem not Gen Chem!!
Chemistry is a hard class. Prof Roy will reward you for working/studying harder than your classmates. Beat the curve and make an A. Tests are hard but he always gives thorough reviews. Department Final was a breeze by the end of the course you are super prepared. Get help from him early, study, and GO TO CLASS!!
Professor Roy is amazing; very rarely do you come across a teacher willing to be as helpful as he is. He gives you his cell # so you can reach out with questions. His review sessions are thorough and he patiently answers all questions. Attend class, do practice problems, and come to class prepared and Roy will recognize that and ensure you succeed.
Professor Roy provides a great template for learning organic chemistry. You will have to work hard in this class, but Roy gives you a good opportunity to understand the material and succeed.
Excellent teacher, does not play favorites but very caring and very helpful, truly wants his students to succeed and does everything he can to make that happen. perfect gentlemen does not hit on students,The George Bush of all Teachers, makes chem interesting and keeps students awake, provides power pt notes and review very down to Earth Worth it
Professor Roy is an excellent teacher. I took Organic 1 with him and his method of explaining was very clear and concepts were easy to understand. I was able to retain all of the information from his course which was valuable when taking Organic 2 and as I prepare to take the MCAT next month. I got an A and am taking his Chem 2 class in the Fall.
Professor Roy is an extremely smart man and clearly cares about his students and their understanding of the material.
Worked hard for this class. You need to set the time to study for this course as it gets harder by the end of the semester. Overall Professor Roy is a great teacher and will help you whenever you have a problem. He doesn't offer extra credit so do extra problems to practice your knowledge of the material. Recommend him!
Watch out! This teacher has very bad handwriting. He puts problems on the board sloppy so now your confused. He teaches based on that you already know the material. I had to you-tube my way through this class.
The professor known well his lectures and really helpful for all students. He teaches may fast but while you read along the textbook, you understand everything. His tests are touch, but he did curve a lot. I make an A while most my tests are B.
Without a doubt an exceptional professor for a difficult introductory class! This class is a little different because there is little use of powerpoints. In essence, almost all examples and problems are done on the board. He gives you a heads up on whats on the test and the labs are essentially easy. He is also extremely helpful and informative.
Very knowledgable in the course context. Helps students who seek additional info. Provides relevant examples in class to prepare you for the exams.
Ochem - It's kind of like a second language. BUT he does offer extra help, even if class ends early. He'll give you a heads up on what may be on the test.
I enjoyed Chem 1 with Professor Roy so I took him again for Orgo 2 this past summer and learned so much. It was summer school so it was fast paced and not easy but he always stayed after class to answer everyone's questions. He also provided much needed heads up on what to focus on and expect for exams. Ask questions and practice and you'll do fine
I am a first year pharmacy student at the University of Texas and Dr. Roy played a huge role in my success. So TAKE HIS CLASS PEOPLE!!! He was very helpful in class, he answers emails in a timely manner and he stays after class to answer questions. Organic Chemistry is not an easy topic but Dr. Roy made it palatable. Thank you Dr Roy!!!!!!!!!
This professor was wonderful. He actually takes time outside of his class to be available. He will help you with any problems and make sure you are ready for his tests. He is passionate about chemistry and it rubbed off on me this semester. I am taking him next semester for organic chemistry because I know that when I leave his class, I'm inspired
He is a great professor. Very helpful. And takes the extra mile to help his students.
Tough subject - but he's more than willing to help you and answer questions. I've stayed past the class time to ask questions during review weeks. Covered one chapter per week for 3 weeks, and had 2 weeks for review before each exams. Easier to follow lecture if you read/skim material before hand.
Very helpful. Always offering help. Clearly he wants his students to succeed.
For those saying that his lectures are long that is often because the chapters in the textbook cover a lot of material. I've had teachers at HCC where they just read off a slideshow, make easy tests and then when the final comes we haven't really learned the material. Prof Roy makes sure to teach you the material to get to the next next step.
Organic Chemistry is not an easy class props to any professor who has learned the material well enough to teach it. He is very knowledgeable in the organic department and offers to teach during or after lab.
He is a great Professor and offers his time to teach you if you need. Offers test reviews similar to the test.
Dr. Roy is a very helpful professor and willing to do whatever it takes for his students to understand the material. Easy to approach as well.
Very difficult and fast passed. His hand writing is very hard to read and he assumes you know the material. I tried reading the chapters before class but since he moves on very quickly, it's hard to keep up with what is covered on each lecture. I studied the chapters one week ahead, but i was always behind.
I took Professor Roy for Summer OChem 1 and it was the best decision ever. He explains concepts very well, but I suggest you have a strong foundation in general chemistry 1 and 2 in order to do well in the class. He really cares about his student's success in the classroom.
Professor Roy is very knowledgeable, but he knows chem so well that he assumes students get it easily, and goes too fast. But chem is hard, and it is difficult to grasp all that advanced material in such a short time period. Also, he has to do something about his handwriting, students cant waste time trying to figure what the board says.
Professor Roy is a great man who cares about his students! He does everything he can to prepare you for his exams. Expect 3 tests and a final exam. No quizzes or homework. Expect a grade curve too.
Professor paul is amazing!! he is always there for his students, and provides you with everything you need to pass his class. He follow the book if you want to go ahead of him and learn more you can, and he is always there to help! I wish i can take him again if i can. I recommend you to take him - brazil
Very sweet professor, very caring and loves his students. and available for students if need help, just his teaching style could be better. Gives a review before each exam. Just writes anything on the board and is not very good at expressing himself. I'll pass. Gives a grade curve tho.
Students in his class mostly have access to the source where his tests are based off. Those who don't are in trouble. Take him if you are in for a high grade.
Prof Roy loves teaching and it shows. He is pretty awesome. You must put in the work but he will help if you ask. Hell stay after class if you need and even allows you to call/text his cell with questions. Took it in 5 weeks, was stressful, but pulled off an A. Does every scheduled lab but lab reports are a breeze. Would recommend for sure.
Very caring professor. Goes fast during lecture but will offer help anytime its asked for. 3 tests and a final with no homework or quizzes. Outstanding test reviews, youll be told exactly what you need to know for the exam. Labs and reports are super easy. Possible grade curve at the end. I recommend this prof, but not Ochem in 5 weeks.
I took prof Roy for Ochem1 summer 2018 and it was a perfect decision. Mr. Roy is my definition of a teacher someone who actually inspires and motivates you to think critically. He genuinely cares about making an impact and not just throwing the lecture in your face. I needed to understand this course for the MCAT and I have definitely mastered it.
He is the best for organic chemistry in Hcc. A very understand professor, the course is very difficult but he always puts you through it and answers questions, gives extra time while taking exams as well. TAKE HIM!
Took him for summer. Lectures are heavy due to a lot of content to study. He literally goes by the book, which is good. Simplifies complex content. You have 3 test, your lowest grade can get replaced by your final if you do better. Organic chemistry is not easy but he will make it as easy as it can get.
Professor Roy knows the subject. He went to Harvard. He lays solid foundation on what you need to know for Ochem 2, and even teaches you ways to memorize reactions, i.e. Merck-Mark, you will know what I mean if you take his class. Even though his labs are easy, still pay attention and learn lab techniques, you will need them for Ochem 2 lab.
When it comes to Ochem2, he is the best professor bar none. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable very passionate, and he cares about his students. He possesses all the markers of a great professor.
I took him because because of the reviews... hes a nice man, but his style of teaching is not good. Youre able to contact him but he only replies when you contact him on his personal phone. I wouldnt suggest you take him unless youre more advanced in Organic Chemistry.
Reviews fooled me... it was fairly difficult due to not understanding the concepts taught by him. If I could give him advice, it would be slow down, and break things down to laymans terms. Its community college, not Princeton.
If you practice, you'll make it. He says that and it truly works. If anyone didn't understand a concept, he would take his time to show it all again and make sure we all understood. Granted the exam reviews are very fast paced but still definitely worth. I highly recommend him and if possible, I'll even take his class for Organic Chemistry 2.
This teacher expect you to know the material already without any information, if you want to learn material please go to a full course not summer. You would think he gives slack but he does not and when you ask questions he says guys you're supposed to know but in reality you don't know it that's why you there. Do not Take him foreal!!! No Cheating
This is the best chemistry professor I have ever had! He takes the time to make sure you understand, and makes sure to use his lecture time wisely. He was amazing, I would definitely take him for O Chem II! Highly recommend for O Chem I!
Buy the test bank for the class (trust me). Labs are easy (pretty much participation). He writes a lot but also talks a lot so make sure to take notes and copy all questions. Do in-chapter questions to prepare. No quizzes or HW. Use online hcc orgochem exams to prepare.
Only take him if you're comfortable with studying on your own. He provides detailed exam reviews, and while I got C's on all of his exams, he does curve, which helps. There's no homework, which some may like, but I wish there was more practice. I had to find online resources myself to improve in Organic Chem.
Participation counts! No homework but he gives a review for each class. He takes attendance so if you don't show up you be behind which will obviously impact your grade. Labs are part of the grade so show up participate and do the labs. Tests are based on the reviews he gives in class.
