I hate history, but he made it fun and interesting. He just makes you write a lot of essays. 2 papers and 2 tests with 2 essays each - so 6 total papers! He also says ...this sort of thing. quite a bit.
very fast paced class, only 2 papers to write and 2 hard test in essay form. he gave one quiz every week on every chapter. i don't like compare and contrast but it was easy..

His class should be an easy A. All students have to do is show up and stay awake. Two written papers and two essay exams.
Good teacher,very helpful
i loved this class before i took it i haed history but now im a history major

MAKES HISTORY STUPID AND CONFUSING. MUMBLES ON BOUT GOD KNOWS WHAT, DRAWS ALL OVER BOARD AND MAKES NO SENSE. WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. DO NOT TAKE HIM. TAKE PROF DEFOE
this teacher was the worst teacher i have ever had. makes no sense in the classroom, draws all over the board and mumbles on bout god knows wat. if u need to take any history take defoe that guy rox this guys is a disgrace to teachers everywhere
I took his class online and it was much more interesting and much less time consuming than 17A with Ms. Leonhardt. He is very clear and organized.Respects your time and understands that history might be not the only class you're taking. I actually ENJOYED reading the textbook and found out a lot of interesting things. I LEARNED SOMETHING!!! ;-))
He does write all over the board, but he knows his history! Not as dramatic as defoe but a great professor!
He draws all over the board and you have no idea what is important and what is not important ... everything is underlined and circled. History is naturally boring but with this guy you might as well drop out of college
take good notes, you'll need them for the test. he give you 7 prompts to study and you write on 2 of his choosing the day of the test. tests are essay style and easy if you've taken good notes. you get 1 page front and back of notes to use on the tests. can be typed if you want to fit more on there.
During one of the tests i wrote the best essay i've ever written. In english had i wrote that essay i would have gotten a B+ or higher, but in this class i got C- on it. Quizes you need to read the book and even if you do its still incredibily hard to get 10/10. Hardest grading teacher i've ever had in my life, including AP classes at Granite Bay.
The best history teacher I've ever had! He makes it very interesting and fun. Take a lot of notes and read your book. I can't it was the easiest class but not the hardest. Show up, do the work and you'll do great. He is very smart and knows his stuff!!!!
Good teacher. The entire class is essays. Two essay assignments and two essays on each test(2 tests). Must show up and take good notes. He is really nice and helpful.
Took 17A &B with him. Great teacher! You have to attend class & take notes- Pay attention especially when he says essay question! Made history interesting & knows what hes talking about. 2 essays & 2 tests essay style all from class notes. Take this professor- even if you dont really like history, youll enjoy his class. show up & take notes=A
great teacher. great lecture style, it is easy to follow. but he is all over the place on the board. heavy reading and essay exams, but not hard at all. there are no suprises, you know what is coming. & he is just way too cute when he lectures and gets all into it. love his blue eyes :) haha
Professor Rozek has to be one of the most underated professor's at sierra college. He is extremly passionate about history. And thats really important for a history teacher or else class is boring. His teaching style is unique but you get used to it. He is extremly fair. As long as you do the readind and take notes you will do fine.
he is just really confusing with notes and such.
AWESOME teacher. Go to class because everything he tests on he lectures about. Small quizzes every week. If you read the short chapters in the book you will do fine. If you have questions he will answer them.
He's great! Doesn't let politics get in the way of his teaching. He sounds like Kermit the Frog, so you won't be bored. He really brought history alive for me. His exams were easy, as long as you prepared properly for them, and since he gave us a list of exam questions before-hand, it wasn't hard. Good class, learned lots.
He is a great teacher. People say his notes are confusing, but if you just pay attention and write down what he SAYS and not just what he writes, you'll do fine! Easy A, hands down.
He is a good teacher. He is very knowledgeable about the subject. There is a chapter to read every week with a quiz. quizzes are pretty difficult and the chapters are long. Im getting a B in the class and hate history but Im working hard for it. There are two 4-6 essays and the midterm and final are essays.
Rozek is the man. I am learning a lot taking him. you write a lot with the notes, the 2 papers, and the 2 exams. But thats how i learn the information best. Very thorough with his lectures and makes sure you are reading the book with the quizzes, drops 3 of them at the end of the semester. Great teacher, nice guy
He is a cool guy, but his class is a joke. He is a boring teacher and you fall asleep in class. Quizes every week, which even if you read the chapter, you fail usually. His two papers assignments are difficult and his requirements are confusing and he also contradicts himself in the description of what he wants.
Prof. Rozek is a fantastic teacher! He is helpful and entertainting, and clearly is passionate about history! Make sure you study your book and pay attention in class and take good notes, but that goes withoit saying. He was truly great!
Instructor Rozek makes attending his class and earning a good grade very simple as it is laid out before you in the very beginning of the semester with what is expected per his syllabus. Class is entertaining, he is passionate and knowledgeable about history, & writes out some notes on the whiteboard. Make sure to take GOOD notes from lecture too!!
Nice guy but hes teaching technique needs some work.He writes random words all over the board hard to follow, his class is sooo boring easy to fall asleep, his weekly quizzes based on book are hard to pass and you have 2 writing assignments which are hard and his midterms are pure essays
Over all the class was easy. do the work and its an easy A. He has weekly quizzes wich are impossible to pass if you dont read. He has essay questions which he gives you prior to each midterm. you always know exactly what your writing about. On day of midterm he picks 3 out of the 8 he gives you. you choose 2 you want to write on. Very fair teacher
Good teacher. Show up to class and take notes everyday. He lectures on what will be on the midterm and final which you can bring a page of notes to (only one side). 10 question Scantron quiz once a week; 3 lowest scores dropped. Midterm and Final r 2 essays a piece, but intros and conclusion r unnecessary. 2 papers as well.
He LOVES his job and it is very apparent in his lectures. Very helpful and knows his stuff! 2 papers, 2 exams, quizzes on chapters each week. Just take notes and you will be fine.
This teacher is really passionate about history, and it was easy despite having taken u.s. history a gazillion times before college >.< Easy class, not much homework except reading one chapter every week for the quizzes, two papers, and 2 essay tests where you write everthing you know. I'd defintely take him again (:
As long as you show up to class this class is so easy! His lectures are exactly what will be on the midterm and final! The writing project was off of a boring book, but once you get through that it's not bad. He's cares about the students and the class, so he is very helpful!
His class was fairly easy. Quizes about once a week and tests like once a month. ALL we did was take notes, take good exact notes and you'll be fine. only thing I didn't like was his grading on essays, he was really specific about what he wanted, even if you wrote a lot it wasn't enough for him. he's weird but nice. overall good class.
great teacher would recommend to anyone. just show up and take notes and you will be fine.
Rozek is a great teacher with passion for his topic. If you like history at all, you will like his class. If not, you might fall asleep. There are weekly quizzes on the readings... I don't think that part was unnecessary because that's the only time you will ever think about the textbook. In his essays make sure to use TONS of details. He likes it
He is a great teacher. Has a passion for history that fills the room. Attendance is mandatory! Take good notes, study your notes and you will pass.
One of the best teachers I've had.You will be fine as long as you take good notes and go to class. The in class essay exams look intimidating but if you use your notes you will get an A. The 2 writing assignments weren't my favorite.Paul is very personal and approachable. You learn alot in his class. WIll need to read textbooks for quizzes
He is very knowledgeable about history and gives a lot of handouts of connect his lecture, book reading to the event itself. i recommend him for any class
Attendance is mandatory for this class. You HAVE to buy the book and read all the chapters in order to do well on the weekly quizzes. He grades pretty harshly on the papers and the final. It was an interesting class and I learned a lot but it requires a lot of work.
Prof. Rozek knows his stuff. He's really passionate about it and wants us others to be too. He doesn't throw out the dates,he teaches us many more interesting facts and views on times in history. He's kinda awkward, and can get angry if people don't engage in all his questions. So speak up, read everything and turn it in on time!
Amazing and passionate. He cares about his students and is more than willing to help after hours via email/phone/office hours. Pay attention during lectures (he makes is easy) and read the required reading and you'll do fine!
Very passionate. thirteen quizes and drops lowest 3 scores. Quizzes are challenging, but not terrible. Must attend class and take notes to do well. The 2 Writing assignments were odd, but follow the requirements and you will do fine. Allows 1 page of notes for tests. Grades hard on them.
It's a very straight forward class. About 1 quiz per week on the text. 2 written exams on notes. 2 essays. Pretty easy class if you take the notes that he writes on the board and read the chapter for the quizzes. the quiz questions can be a bit difficult but he drops 3 quizzes. I really didn't need to worry alot about this class. Good teacher.
I love this guy. His lectures are extremely note friendly. They are also very organized. Assuming you show up and take good notes everyday there is no reasons you shouldn't have an A. I've had him twice and each time he had two essays 4-6 pages,a midterm and a final, and pretty easy reading quizzes about once a week. 10/10 would take again.
One of those professors that seems to really enjoy both his subject and teaching. All you have to do is take notes (he writes his main points on the board, just add little comments he makes yourself) and you'll be ready for the essays. You need the book for the chapter quizzes. Also just an interesting guy to talk to, even if he is a bit awkward
Lectures are interesting because he doesn't teach the same garbage like every other history teacher I had. He let us use laptops when taking notes. His expectancy is clear. There are roughly 13 quizzes pretty easy just read the weekly chapter. You do need to buy a book for an essay. he has 2 essays each 4-6 pages. Favorite teacher so far
Professor Rozek was AMAZING. His lectures are extremely interesting and I loved attending his class. However, he is a hard grader and it is very difficult to get A's on his papers. His weekly quizzes are nearly impossible to pass, but as long as you get A's on everything else he'll bump up the grade. Take notes in class to use in the midterm.
Mr. Rozek is an excellent teacher who truly enjoys what he does. He is a great speaker which makes his lectures easy to follow and pay attention to. The information is interesting and is presented in a timely and organized manner including clearly structured notes and videos relevant to the information. If you are a decent student you will do well.
He grades very tough. The average grade for the essays was a "C". I only saw 2 people get "A's". His lectures are great and informative but he moves at a very fast pace. we are quizzed on the textbook before we talk about it in class, I would honestly not take this class again but it was still a decent class. It was hard
I've always thought history was boring until I took this class. Prof. Rozek makes the material interesting. I really enjoyed his class and kind of wish I needed another history class (but I don't) His writing assignments are a little weird, but follow his guidelines and you'll do fine.
Prof Rozek is awesome! I have hated history my ENTIRE life. This was the 1st history class that I actually found interesting and I really learned from it! I STILL remember facts, which has never happened to me for history. You need to pay attention to his lectures which are INTERESTING. Easy reading quizzes on each chapter, 2 tests, couple papers.
Paul is an amazing instructor! His lectures are incredibly well thought out and very interesting. He writes notes on the board in a really fantastic order and to get a good grade in the class you really just need to pay attention and write down notes. His weekly quizzes have study guides that pretty much guarantee an A each time.
Paul is an incredibly good lecturer. He is clear and fun to listen to. My biggest tip: take meticulous notes. His big exams are the midterm and the final and they are both in-class essays entirely based off of class lectures. If you can rewrite the lecture that the prompt addresses, then you are solid. I'm taking his History 17B! He is awesome!
one of the best classes i've taken. I used to struggle with history, but Rozek makes thingseasy and clear. Yes his notes can be a little random on the board but if you pay attention to what he's saying which is all great info, and you can write that down too you'll have no problem. He gives study guides for quizzes and you can use notes on tests!
I'm HORRIBLE at history and I did very well in this class thanks to Paul! If you struggle with history, TAKE HIM!! His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. 2 essays, quizzes every week based on the readings, and midterm+final (short essays). He lets you bring a piece of paper with notes for both. My advice - take very detailed notes!
Paul is a great teacher and explains the lecture concepts very well. There are two tests, lots of quizzes, and two papers. The quizzes could be very difficult but he hands out a study guide. The papers are graded very arbitrarily and he gives little direction on them and what he is looking for. Overall he did a good job. I recommend taking him.
He starts each class with a question and then gives a lecture to answer the question. He teaches kind of in a story format which makes the class much more interesting. Weekly reading quizzes, two essays, midterm, & final.
One of my all-time favorites professors and heavily influenced my decision to major in History. He makes learning so much fun and approaches subjects from a fascinating standpoint. It's a fair amount of work but if you show up and do what he asks, the class is set up for you to succeed! I took him for both 17A & B and would definitely take again.
Best history teacher I ever have. I find history boring but not in his class. Class goes by very fast. Weekly quiz that he gives study guide for. Easy a on those if you study. His midterm and final are the same. You turn in paper and do in class essay. Tough grader so take him up on his offer to look at your paper before turning it in, it will help
Very disappointed. His study guides don't help you on the quizzes at all, lectures are very unorganized, and i can keep going. He should learn a thing or too about teaching cause he needs it. Went to discuss with him about some help about the subject and barely helped me. I got an A+ with professor Brown last semester and now barely holding a C-.
As long as you show up to class you will be able to pass. Rozek is very caring and is always helpful if you ask for help. Had quizzes every week that were 100% based off of the study guides that he offers. Exams were solely based off lectures. Did not post grades though, had to ask what my grade was throughout the year via email.
She is a very caring guy, his classes go by very fast and he teaches the material in notes and lecture format. She's the first Professor that I had my classes passed by so fast. You have quizzes every week and 2 test and two writing assignments. He is also the most patient teacher, because this one girl would never shut up and he was really smooth.
He is also the most patient teacher, because this one girl would never shut up and he was really smooth about it. It is a very easy class All you need to do it show up, take notes, and pass quizes.
Chapter quiz every week but easy if you read and do the study guide. Grades VERY hard on writing assignments. Grades fairly on midterm and final. Notes are very hard to keep up with. You have to attend class to take notes that you need for your midterm and final
There are weekly quizzes however they are fairly easy as long as you complete the study guides. We had two writing assignments in class, I felt he was very blunt on the instructions practically tells you what he expects and where he excepts it. Lectures were not boring at all never got distracted in class.
Professor Rozek was probably the best History professor I've had. This is a class that meets the saying "you get out what you put in." Quiz every week based off study guide. GO TO CLASS. His lectures are crucial to getting a good grade on tests. If you take good notes, you will get a good grade. Very patient too with annoying students.
I enjoyed Rozeks class. He gave me a new appreciation for History so I switched my major to history. Much of the class period is lecture, but his knowledge and visible passion for History makes it interesting. Taking good notes is essential for the final and midterm (essay tests). I didnt care for the book selection for the writing assignments.
His class was not easy but he made it worth it. I took his classes for two semesters and I don't think I would have done well in those classes without having him lecture. Taking notes is very simple cuz he lays it all out in the best way on the whiteboard. lots of reading for weekly quizes but their not hard. Hard work made possible by a great guy
have to read a chapter each week and then test on it every class. lectures from beginning to end. it is an easy class just hard because it is boring
Paul was very nice and tried his best to remember everybody's name. Had two writing assignments(essays), quizzes every week, a midterm, and a final. The study guides are exactly what's going to be expected you know. He doesn't care about you memorizing dates of events. Take good notes and you will do extremely well in the class.
Lectures daily , given 2 papers throughout the class, really good with feedback and lectures
In Professor Rozeks class you will have a 15pt quiz about every week per chapter. I suggest using the book to read chapters & he will also post study guide on canvas w/ questions related to quiz that you can use to study. There is also 2 essays for midterm & final, you will need to attendant class to write notes that can be used for essays.
I would suggest keeping track of your grades on quizzes, etc. so you are aware of what your grade always is because he does not update canvas.
VERY lecture heavy. Professor Rozek was nice and all but he was just very boring . Chapter quizzes every week. Just do the study guides given, they are basically same questions asked on quizzes. There were 2 essays and he grades hard. The midterm and final were easy because you know the prompts. Just make sure you take A LOT of notes! I mean A LOT!
Great professor! I did not enjoy History before his class, but I found this class very interesting. Very little homework, only 2 papers that he lays out exactly what he expects and gives you plenty of time. He will even review drafts. Midterm and final are essay questions w/cheat sheet. One quiz a week based on book, lectures important for tests
Paul Rozek gives great lectures and if you try just a little bit itll be an easy A. Quizzes are once every week on the assigned reading out of the textbook. They all have study guides before hand so its somewhat easy. Theres 2 writing assignments which are quite tedious but doable. Theres no real tests besides the midterm and final essays.
Pretty great professor. A midterm and final essay and two other writing assignments as well as weekly reading quizzes. You gotta actually put in the effort for this class and take as much notes as absolutely possible during lecture to do well on the midterm and final. Not a super easy class but also not terribly hard.
Best professor Ive had so far. All you have to do is show up. The only homework he gives is for you to study a weekly quiz and 2 writing assignments on the semester so make sure you are putting aside time to do that. Classes consist of strictly note taking he makes it very easy to participate as well.
I enjoyed this class, the lectures were a bit dry and the work could be tedious but nothing insane. A bit more instruction on the essay's would have been nice but hey there was no tests! Just discussions and two essays along with two essay esc exams that if you look at the lecture overview for the subject should be enough to help. Not bad at all!
Has many lectures to listen to every week with a quiz & discussion with each chapter. For finals, you read another book & write an essay that was 4-5 pages. For midterms, it was 3-4 prompts about topics covered & you pick 2 to write about (had 4 hours to write both). When grading the discussions he can be picky if you "answered the question fully".
I have taken HIST17A with professor Rozek and I really enjoyed his classes. He is a great professor who really knows the subject. He has a very clear way of speaking, easy to understand. His grades fairly. The main point: TAKE NOTES! all he asks on the exam essay is your knowledge about the subject based on what you learn from his lectures.
His online course is strictly lecture-based. You better write endless notes on his lectures or else you will not pass any of his assignments. Does NOT provide a grading rubric for anything. His midterm and final each consist of writing TWO essays within two hours. He grades his discussion boards rather harshly. Quizzes based off of the text book.
On the midterm/final (timed essays) you may ONLY use info stated from in lectures (if you any use info from the books that he required for his class, you WILL get docked points). You'll write TONS of notes on his lectures. Your grade will reflect not being HEAVILY detailed on one small topic. ~60% of grade is timed essays & two written assignments.
Paul Rozek may be the harshest grader that I have had. Absolutely no clarification as to why you receive the grade that you do, and zero rubric whatsoever. Good class if you care about history, nice guy, but absolutely no clarification. Tedious assignments, consistent discussion boards, and the refusal to reward a student with a 100/10 on anything
This is more of an English class than history. The midterm and final as well as writing assignments are graded on your ability to write, and hardly on the material of the class. the class average on these assignments was around a 70% on of them except the writing assignments where the average was a 65%. If youre not good at writing good luck w an A
Taking his online class, I haven't taken an online class before, but I have never been so frustrated and sad over a class. strict turn-in times, no late work at all. I'm very busy, which is why I chose an online class for more flexibility, and if I'm even an hour late, or I forget to press turn in on a discussion board, I'm given a 0%.
I actually liked history before I took this class. I felt like I was trapped in an English class and we were only able to write about historic topics. His grading made absolutely no sense, and he cared for quantity over quality with the papers. If you take this class, be prepared to do a lot of pointless writing.
Definitely more of an English class than a history class. Gradebook is comprised of weekly quizzes, discussions, and midterm and final papers/writing assignments. Averages for the 4 biggest exams were around a 72% and one of them was a 64%. Incredibly difficult to get an A in. Grades really harsh. I would NEVER take him again.
