A really nice guy with a pleasant sense of humor. He works to help his students and strives for their success. Sometimes the class is dry, but he does his best through pictures and jokes to get you through.

I took a Vietnam War class with him. By far one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Teaches through pictures, and his humor, which is fun. Gives quizzes and papers, and is always willing to work with you. As he says he prefers quality work, so just let him know if you'll be a little late with an assignment! Definitely recommend taking him.

Rubinson is great; took him for Vietnam course. He is very laid back, funny, and understanding. Have two papers and a few reading quizzes, not demanding. Great teacher who is willing to work with the students, definitely recommend taking him.

Very easy teacher, attendance is not mandatory. Only 3 quizzes on books you read outside of class, a midterm and a final. Puts all of the lecture outlines online and the midterms are either an essay or key terms from the outlines which you can just google.

Really good teacher... funny and makes class interesting even though its usually a lecture. Midterm and final with three reading quizzes on books you can find a bunch of info on online. He is the textbook and you only have to buy the three other books for the reading quizzes... I spent about 15 dollars on books for this class. Good guy.

Such a wonderful teacher! I have taken him twice and he was so helpful both semesters. The work is beyond manageable and he is always available to help or to give advice. He has been my favorite professor at BSU and I think everyone should hunt him down to take their basic histories with.

Professor Rubinson is by far one of my favorite professors at BSU. No I would not qualify his classes as an "easy A", you definitely have to work for your grade, however professor rubinson teaches in a way that is interesting and extremely manageable. I would DEFINITELY recommend him! Plus he is hilarious!

His class was quite memorable. His humor was on point and I learned a great deal. I'm hesitant to recommend any professor, but not with this one. If it were my major I'd see to it that I took him again.

Great professor, even if you are totally opposed to History. Material was enjoyable, and testing was always reasonable, not stumping the students, but rather having students elaborate on what they read. If you take him, just put in your best. It will pay off.

I do not find any previous comments misleading. People go on here searching for professors for an "easy a" and when they do not find that they get disappointed. You need to work for your grade in his 400-level classes. However if you keep up with the readings and notes it DOES come easy. BEST PROFESSOR

Rubinson is absolutely hilarious. I take as many classes as possible with him. I've never taken another professor that's been good enough to not make me wish I could satisfy every area with this guy. He puts the rest of the department to shame. Don't let people who slacked in his class mislead you, he's the man.

I loved Dr. Rubinson! He is very funny and makes class enjoyable. He constantly asks for questions and if any one needs help with their assignments. Like so others have said, you have to work for your grade but you will have fun doing it.

A great guy who is always making sure that you are not in the dark in regards to his class as well as any other questions about anything. Always looking for your feedback about textbooks, course work and other elements about the class. A really great guy who is always willing to help. Nine books, response papers and a twenty page term paper.

The best professor at BSU. Not only helpful and extremely respectful towards students, but genuinely a great person and wants you to succeed. 4 quizzes on 4 different books, a midterm, final, and 2 papers. Definitely recommend him! You're missing out if you don't take at least one class with him!

He is one of the best I have had in a while! We had nine books with a response paper for each book and a 20 page paper that counted for a decent part of our grade along with participation that was 40% of our grade. He made the class enjoyable and interesting. He is always looking to help his students and for feedback. Has a great sense of humor too

I'll admit that his personality, sense of humor, and teaching style may not be for everyone, but I liked him. Quizzes are fairly straightforward if you actually read and he grades fairly. If he gives you an option between an essay or identification on exams, DO THE ESSAY.

I took him for US 2 honors. I felt his class was enjoyable, He was very helpful and understanding as a teacher. He graded my essays pretty easy. It was a little writing intensive. He used movies and about three textbooks to teach us. He was funny and easy going. I hope to have him again!

Rubinson is a nice guy who cares about his students progress and he does teach well. But I found his grading to be harsh and somewhat unfair. Even though he is a nice guy, I probably would not take him again for any history course.

Dr. Rubinson is one of my favorite professors at BSU. He is hilarious and a very interesting lecturer. His class consisted of two papers, a midterm, final and four reading quizzes. He willingly gave out extensions for papers because he wants his students to succeed. I would take him again!

Dr. Rubinson is a rare breed of professor with the duality of his excellent command of his subject matter, along with his enjoyable and upbeat teaching style. Professor Rubinson's command over his subject is unparalleled by any other professor at BSU. Classes consist of very enlightening lectures and fruitful class discussions. The assigned reading can seem overwhelming at first, but I have never read a bad book in Rubinson's class. Incredible professor who could also pursue a career as a comedian. A+

young and easy to relate to, always makes assignments reasonable. very sarcastic and dark sense of humor, so if you are easily offended than he may not be for you. funny guy overall, always gets the class laughing. usually extends the due dates on papers and allows you to submit late, procrastinators welcome. highly recommend him.

Excellent professor, he gives an outline of the lecture so you know how to organize your notes. Always offers extra help if needed and his expectations are clear if you read the syllabus.

Dr. Rubinson is an awesome professor, his expertise is the Cold War, so if possible take him for something during that time frame. I had him for my seminar, so the class was limited to just ten of us. The class (America in the 80's) was great. If you do the work and participate you will do great.

Dr. Rubinson is the best. Although it can be a lot of information at once, he gives time in class for questions. He is also super funny and passionate about the subject about history.

Professor Rubinson is a great teacher, he gets to know his students and genuinely cares about them, and how they do in the class. He asks for class feedback on assignments so he does not put too much pressure on us, especially during midterms and finals. His classes are all lectures, but he makes them interesting. I definitely would take him again!

Dr. Rubinson is a unique & weird prof. He tries to make the class easier by lightening the mood w/ jokes & asking for input on assignments, class structure; he listens to students! Doesnt put a lot of pressure on students. He can be an ass at times & is pompous; Takes forever to grade too. Easy class just put in the work & dont get on his bad side.

He is a very funny, and nerdy professor. He does not expect a lot from his students. I had him for history since 1865 and found it to be very easy. No tests or final for this class this is a writing based class which I love. He has online quizzes but you take them until you pass. Very cool professor and I enjoy taking his class.

He is sarcastic, but a ton of knowledge. He wants more from students, so if you talk to him during class you'll get more knowledge out of him.

Professor Rubinson is one of my favorite History Professors at BSU. This is my third semester taking one of his classes. Normally he makes you read a 3/4 books during the semester and you'll have a book quiz after them. No textbook, a couple of papers and a final. Very knowledgeable and loves class discussions (when people participate!!!)

Paul is a great guy and professor. We had no exams in his class, only 7 document essays (600 words long), a final paper which he goes over, two online quizzes which you can keep doing until you receive 100s, and one in-class quiz. He is very funny, but will get extremely angry if you use your phone in class. I hate history but I loved his class!

Gets off-track from his lectures easily. Funny, attendance isn't mandatory. No Final or Midterm, 3 papers and 4 reading quizzes are the grades. Read the books for the quizzes. There's a short paper, long paper and film analysis paper.

Rubinson is my favorite professor, hands down. He's a great professor and he's hilarious, so he's able to make any subject interesting. His lectures are easy to follow, exams and essays are graded fairly, and he's always happy to answer questions or even just talk with us. I highly recommend taking a class with him!

Rubinson is a solid professor because he gives you all the information you need. If you don't read the material he gives you, then you probably won't do well on the papers and quizzes. Guarantee the majority of people who complain aren't doing that. Take good notes and you'll breeze through the exams. He's also hilarious which makes it enjoyable.

Dr. Rubinson is my favorite professor in the department. His sarcastic/self-depreciating sense of humor makes class enjoyable. This class (Atomic Bomb) is on a topic he is very passionate about, so it would behoove you to pay attention and show up. Read the books for the quizzes. He expects excellent writing, so make a plan to submit rough drafts.

Dr. Rubinson is hilarious and full of great insight. His honesty on the topic is refreshing. Papers are interesting to write, but make sure to ask for help if you can. He's not the best at spacing out assignments; at the beginning of the course you'll have no work, but at the end you'll be reading 2 books, writing an essay, and studying for a test.

Rubinson is a good dude and provides some useful insight but sometimes I feel like he can be harsh as a grader. Overall he expects really good writing from his students and he had us do these weekly essays and sometimes it was tough to figure out what he wanted. Excellent professor! I have taken at least four or five of his classes. He is great and willing to help anyone. Extra time on a paper? You got it! Want to revise a paper? You got it! He is all for helping his students succeed and will go out of his way to do so as long as you actually attend class. Highly recommend!

What a great teacher. He truly cares for his students. I look forward to having him next semester. Definitely a lot of reading but spaced out over semester.

5 books!? Alright, it's a lot, but it's not awful. If you read, you'll do great because the quizzes are TIGHTLY based on the book. It's likely you won't do well on at least one (seemed to be the trend), but it won't kill your grade. Papers are a little difficult, but he's pretty good when it comes to feedback. Great choice, also a hilarious guy!

Professor Rubinson expects you to work hard but is also very considerate. He is usually willing to give more time on assignments if needed. Be prepared to read a lot and participate, but you will learn a lot from him. He is an excellent teacher and gives good feedback. I highly recommend him for any history class!

A great professor. Ive had him for 4 classes and would take him again. The only thing is he requires 4-5 books depending the class. If you need more time on an assignment he will gladly give it to you. Only had a couple of essays and reading quizzes. Great professor

He provided our quiz questions and paper prompts in advance. 2 papers and 5 quizzes based on 5 books. The papers are pretty on par with most history classes, but his quizzes give you the opportunity to shine, as long as you put some effort into reading comprehension. He does revisions and was understanding regarding extension requests. Great guy!

You need to be focused if you want to succeed in this class. You get assigned a book like every week and have to take a quiz on it. Only one of the books I liked, they all contain a lot of information. No other work besides the quizzes, so do well on them. If you explain yourself & use sources, he'll give you credit. Very nice guy, but okay class

Rubinson is the MVP. The coursework is fair and manageable (2 quizzes, 2 essays, a final), he provides good feedback, and he's hilarious. Contrary to other reviews, he is extremely caring and understanding. He is willing to extend due dates if contacted, and even gave us our own "spring break." Don't be fooled by these poor reviews, he's awesome!

He is by far one of the best history professors I have had in my college career. Funny, casual, and straight up!! He cares about his students and is very easy going. I enjoyed his lectures a lot, reading material was interesting, and had a fun project! Highly recommend

Overall, Rubinson is immensely knowledgable and I found it remarkable the level of detail he went into to answer my questions this semester and the overwhelming precision and accuracy in response. PR Rubinson is the best history professor and has a hysterical personality. This was honestly not a tough class only four unit quizzes, four reading quizzes and a final paper. He even gives you the opportunity to revise a couple of quizzes if you flunk them. His lectures are amazing and the quizzes were open book. It's not as bad as you may think!

Final was a paper that could be submitted online. If you go to class he flat out gives you some answers on the take home quizzes. Turn in all your work on time and you will walk away with an A.

His lectures were great, and he is a very down to earth guy, but his course was difficult to plan for. The requirements and assignments were always changing. There is a lot to be gained from his knowledge, lectures, and overall good nature. I think it was the first time he taught the course. The course was one of the best Hist courses I have taken.

I took one clas with Paul and wish I would've been able to take more. He definitely has a laid back personality as long as you're paying attention and engaged. His lectures made it easy to pay attention to. There was a bit of reading but nothing too difficult

He is super nice and super accommodating! Lots of lectures, which are quite fast and wordy. Tests are every two weeks on books.

Funniest and most enjoyable class I've taken at BSU. The reading is heavy (A book + quiz every two weeks) but it's manageable. Final is a 5 page paper. Classes are fun and easygoing, he's easy to talk to and reach out to and wants to see you succeed. Will for sure be taking him for more history classes if I ever can.

This was the most enjoyable class I've ever taken at BSU. He does get off topic but the discussions are always engaging and go right back to the lesson. He makes history fun and reminded me why I'm in this major. I will be taking him again next semester, and as many more times as I can. There is a lot of reading, but he guides you through it.

Rubinson is hilarious and makes class actually fun. This is the most reading I have had to do for a class but I barley have noticed it, he walks you through the readings and the readings are actually really cool. one of the books was a in a comic book style, and was all about the Atomic bomb. I took Professor Rubinson for a history class and he is super funny. He's a very relaxed teacher and attendance isnt graded or recorded. There are a few books (maybe 4) that you have to read with a corresponding quiz but he often tells you the questions prior, or has it due at 11:59pm. I'd definitely take his class!

Professor Rubinson is a great professor! He's really funny so his class is enjoyable! There are 4 books you have to read and a quiz for each, but that's it for exams. This class wasn't very difficult, coming from someone who isn't a history person. Great professor! The only bad thing is that he takes a while to grade quizzes.

Professor Robinson is a really nice and understanding guy. you have to get 4 books and will be quizzed once on each of them. So 4 quizzes and some worksheets during class. You have a final paper at the end, but it's easy as long as you take notes. Great teacher and class definitely recommend.

Professor Rubinson is a terrific history professor. His lectures are interesting, and the work is challenging and creative. I learned a lot. And he is a very nice understanding person. It would be totally out of character for him to make fun of anybody for any reason. Misunderstandings and miscommunications can happen. Take him!

Professor Rubinson makes this class really enjoyable. His lectures are engaging, and he's accommodating - often giving quiz answers ahead of time. The workload is manageable, with just 4 reading quizzes and a final paper. Using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook was super helpful for staying on top of the material.

He made history a pretty interesting subject to learn, does lectures every class but they are very informal, and he likes to make bad jokes all the time. Came to the first class ready to talk about Sabrina Carpenters' wig and labubus. He gives 3 research assignments that take maybe 20 minutes each to complete. He only gives 1 assignment per topic.

Taking Professor Rubinson's class was one of the best decisions I've made. Even after switching into this class 2 weeks in, I still received a great grade. Show up, pay attention, do the work, and you'll do great. Assignments were fun while also being informative, and he wants you to learn to think for yourself. Great class overall.
