get a life...bouncy's a great prof
Not the greatest lecturer. Cute. VERY helpful!!!!
He is one cool character... excellent tests as well!
monotone = nap time. stay home, read book, get A
Ridiculously low class average, course made no sense, neither did teacher
yech!
This class was alright. The material sucked, but the prof was great. Classes may seem long and difficult, but tests are pretty easy, and you can get a decent mark!
Class material was very boring. But he tried hard to make it interesting. Really good prof overall. Just make sure you read the book and you'll do well. There were a lot of cute girls in this class also ;)
material was so dry and he tried so hard to make it interesting to us but he just couldn't.. great guy, tries his best. would take another class with him if it were something more interesting.
Where do I begin - a year later it still makes no sense to me. Its boring material to begin with but even more boring when he goes over the same point 10 times (which only makes it more confusing - trust me). Read the book, do the tests and you'll be fine
Get the notes from Sparknotes.com (don't pay, copy and paste from the web and print) - the course texts are too brutal - the notes are good. Read and re-read them and you MIGHT get it. Nice guy (looks like Barney Rubble). Tough material.
So very boring. So very unhelpful. So annoying to watch and/or listen to. Too bad the course is required...
The biggest nerd ever. But still an alright teacher, he can't help it if the course is boring. He's not the greatest at explaining anything additional, or in another way, if you don't get it the first time, but he really does try. Just read the text!
Boring, boring, boring class. Print off the course notes and read the book and you're fine.
easy course but BOOOORING, teaches it the best he can, i mean look at the material! fair test not hard to get an A
Course very dry. Good prof, tries to make lectures interesting. I would take one of his courses again...just one that's more interesting
if you wear earphones and watch his mouth move, you'll be entertained for hours. read the book, d/l the slides. and you are set.
did the best he could with very dry, boring course material. fair tests and exam. i enjoyed his sense of humour. he also had a lot of patience for rude students who talked all the way through his class -- just don't show up if you're going to do that!
Very nice prof, very patient with jerks who talk in class like me...course little tedious, but read ur book and skim over slides, very easy
Am I the only person who hasn't taken phi 1101 with him? :) Rusnock is AMAZING. He's by far my favourite teacher at the school. VERY encouraging, dynamic, clear and precise. I am in love with his classes. Wonderfulteacher, too bad he's gone soon :
Great prof, very patient and a little funny(looks like Barny Rubble). The course is fairly easy.
BORING course...I guess he does the best he can! Gotta love the scrunch and scratch.
Such an easy prof!! although boring at times but i think that's the course content, not his fault
Like everyone else, boring material, but he made most of it interesting enough to have it stick. Good test writer, very clear questions.
Great prof - intelligent, knowledgeable, interesting, clear...It helps that the course is relatively straightforward and easy.
For a very dry course, he makes it semi interesting. It's quite a compliment when you see what you have to read, etc. He does everything in his power to make the class as interesting as possible.
This is more like an English than a Philosophy course. He's a very fair professor.
Beware of the Logician. Genuinely nice guy though and really concerned with helping his students.
a very difficult course, however, his teaching is impeccable. I am thoroughly glad that he is our resident logician. I love the new black board in his office. I Have never met someone so congenial, and dedicated to his students. I wish i could take more!
great prof. funny too.
I would rather have just read the text book. I don't think it's his fault that the course is so ridiculously boring but he doesn't seem to be able to gage the speed at which our class learns, it ends up that the real content is lost in hours of examples.
brillant, mais difficile avec les notes.
Great Logic prof. Knows his logic, and is an engaging speaker. The material is sober and serious, but he's witty enough to make it interesting, even funny at times. Highly recommend this prof for anyone in philosophy (Not sure about the course code. The course was LOGIC II)
please explain each problem clearly, and speak clearly. thank u!
another great teacher. this class was so unbelievably easy with him teaching it, it blew me away. He gives lots of examples _to illustrate the concepts_ so you can get a clear understanding. As long as you EITHER go to class OR read his notes, you'll get an A no problem (and i'm not in this faculty)
Very clear. Helpful examples. Amusing too.
His classes are pretty easy, but really boring. I found that no matter how hard i tried to pay attention, I still ended up falling asleep. But as long as you do the readings, it'll be fine, he's straight from the book.
Rusnock is one of the best profs there is at the school. He will go as far as he can to help you, extra help anytime you want as much as you want. He's hillarious in class (~C) and just an all around nice guy. His instruction is clear and there is no one better at teaching logic. It's a hard course but he makes it manageable. Amazing prof.
Very, very clear, which is no small feat given the text studied, and always in a good mood. His comments on essays are typed! some students may find a somewhat difficult marker though...
The best prof I've ever had, probably the best at Ottawa U. VERY helpful and an excellent TEACHER which is a breath of fresh air for this university.
Rusnock = inspiring. He's the coolest.
this professor defines what and how every prof should be like. hes so nice and actually teaches with a high degree of clarity. you will love his classes even if you hate the subjects. hes such a nice person. loved him!! i will take LOGICII anyday
You can tell he's really passionate about what he does. He explains everything really simply and clearly, and is a fair marker. I'd absolutely recommend him for Reasoning and Critical Thinking. Philosophy isn't really my thing, but Prof. Rusnock made it as good as it could be for me.
Probably my FAVORITE teacher! He's super nice, helpful, clear and easy. I wouldn't have taken the class if it wasn't necessary for my program, but it was still somewhat interesting. Oh and textbook is only 25$ :)
Excellent professor. One of the most challenging and rewarding classes of my carrer to date. Provides ample time to help students.
Very good prof. Marks are based entirely on knowledge of material, as opposed to participation or attendance. Provides an optional discussion group. Nice guy, too. Not intimidating. Knows the material well, and knows how to communicate that knowledge in a clear manner.
Very nice prof that teaches clearly and at the proper pace for even the slowest students to keep up. Easy class, read the notes and that's all you need. You can use the book for further clarity if needed.
Simply the best !!!! Running outta word to describe him. Turn boring logic into fun. Highly recommend him.
GREAT PROF. he makes class very easy.
HIs class notes are so in depth and simplify the textbook so much that if you can understand his notes and the textbook you never need to attend class to pass with a good mark. He's a very good prof, but unfortunately not very interesting.
Very interesting prof. Textbook and class examples are extremely short, so you may need to look up extra exercises online. Workload is VERY light, and if you do it all, you'll get your A. Attendance optional. 1101 definitely recommended as an elective.
He was such a great prof, he helped me so much and I would not have been able to pass that class without his help. Definitely would recommend him to other people.
If you have to (or want to) take logic, TAKE IT WITH THIS PROF! He is simply phenomenal. The consummate teacher, he runs voluntary tutorials himself for those who want extra help. Writes his own textbook, and explains things with wonderful clarity. Truly cares whether you understand or not.
If your taking logic take it with this prof! best prof at ottawa U, knows everything about logic, there is no question he wont have an answer for. Hid assignments are very fair and as long as you pay attention in class there is no reason not to do great! he does a great job at teaching logic and only includes things stressed in class on the exams.
A great professor explains very clearly.
Smart, funny, easy-going. Tough coursework but he's more than willing to help you through it.
Not bad. Easier to focus when he used powerpoint versus the lectures where he would just talk and use the board. Lots and lots and lots of examples. Hour and a half lecture - 30 mins lecture and an hour of examples/practice. I wouldn't complain if i got him again.
AMAZING logic prof, extremely difficult class for me, and he went out of his way to help me. spent hours at office hours. tutorial isn't mandatory but helpful
Best prof I've ever had at U of O, and this is my fifth year here haha.. he knows logic as though he invented it and has a step by step way of explaining it that it makes a difficult subject simple if you pay attention.. cant wait for Logic 2 with him this year!
Best prof for logic. by far. without contest!
Although the course itself is dry and difficult, Prof Rusnock was extremely helpful. He gave lots of examples and told you everything that would be on his exams. He is by far one of my favourite professors at the school and i would highly recommend!!! very approachable
The lectures are boring, but they do help. Not much use of textbook for course material, but great for examples. He goes through so many examples that are relevant. He also lets you know what will be on tests and the exam and there aren't any trick questions. Great prof and explains very well
Made learning this material quite interesting. Great jokes. You can tell he cares about his students a lot.
Rusnock is a great lecturer, very clear on the information he is presenting and pops the occasional joke. Outside of the classroom he makes every effort to help you and do whatever is necessary to get you through the semester. He is always in his office and willing to lend some help or advice, awesome, awesome guy.
Best Professor at Ottawa U. And best part, actually cares; sacrifices much personal time for students.
Best prof I've ever met! Very helpful :) As long as you attend classes, you'll get A.
Best professor I've ever had. He's hilarious, extremely helpful, engaging, and open-minded. The material is obscure, but interesting, and Professor Rusnock is just a gem. I can't repeat it enough. You have to take his class. However, it is really difficult and assignments are LONG, but they're worth it. His class is stellar.
The nicest guy. So wants every person to succeed and enjoy the material. I found this class challenging but at no fault of his - just difficult material for some. In getting help he honestly provided me with as much emotional support as academic lol. If he taught any philo class other than logic I would take it, no question.
Really great professor. He is always available to help his students and genuinely cares about helping us and making sure we do well. The class can get confusing at times so tutorials are extremely helpful. He is a very caring and genuine guy and I would take any class with him in a heartbeat. Do your work and pay attention and you'll do well.
He definitely makes you work for good grades, but is always available for help outside of class. He even helped me just a few hours before a problem set was due. With that being said, this is no bird course, and I'll be happy with a C. 10/10 would recommend, sweetest guy ever. Genuinely cares about the students.
Very good logic prof. Give extra info about the applications and derivation of the material. From what I hear, he's also can grow spuds like nobody's business.
When i first discovered what logic class really was and that it was mandatory of a BA in philo i was terrified. this guy made the sweat and fear all worthwhile. hes a sweetheart- a gentle giant- his emotional intelligence rivals his intellectual intelligence and skill for conveying the subject matter. if youre worried about logic, take it with him!
he's super helpful and cares about the wellbeing of his students. he helps students with the work, goes through the questions and explains it so they understand. I find his class engaging. Hopefully I have him in the future. 3 tests and final exam.
Tests are fair but long, you need to know your stuff. Teaches clearly and at reasonable pace. Cares about his students and goes the extra mile.
He makes things more complicated than they need to be. I had to use google to understand some things. 3 tests and a final exam. Do the practice questions at the end of each chapter, he normally flips a question from there and puts it on the test or final.
Great prof. Nice, caring, attempts to be hip, all of the above. The content is a little mind-numbing and really hard to grasp, but his exams are the easier examples from his class textbook. As a science student, this class was my elective and he made my life a lot easier; very thankful he was my prof for this class.
Lectures were very boring but he was super nice and caring. 3 tests and 1 final, average difficulty so you'll have no problems if you do the practice questions and pay attention in class/read the course pack, no surprises on the tests at all. I wouldn't take again only because I hated logic but great prof!
.Don't expect to answer all 40 short answer questions in his midterm within 2 hours.
Very clear explanations. Sends the reading that he wrote and is very clear (so no textbook) and I feel like you can get a good grade just from the reading but I still watched the lectures. Practice exercises at the end of the reading that you don't have to submit, just to understand the material. Quizzes that u can retake indefinitely.
Prof. Rusnock (+ Prof. Vincent Bergeron) delivered this online course very well. The grading scheme was helpful, and there was a textbook, video lectures, and slides all at your disposal. Quizzes and textbook questions resembled Midterm and Final questions, so you knew what to study. Having taken this with another prof before, I'd recommend them.
Online recorded lectures & in-person tutorials. It really does depend on your TA as they run the tutorials. Prof is sweet & lectures are super clear. Text is cheap and written by the prof. Don't get behind but there isn't much material. Topics: argument forms, diagrams, fallacies, good args (acceptability, relevance, adequacy) & basic prop logic.
Literally the most organized prof. I have ever encountered!
Did all the homework and only managed an A-. I found the tutorial from the TA was not super helpful and the exam had confusing wording on some questions. Still an okay class.
I'm almost done his philosophy class, which I took as an elective and I'm considering taking philosophy as a minor thanks to this prof. I really enjoyed his teaching style and he seemed very genuine. For the midterms, we knew exactly what questions would be on the test. Also, you pretty much get a free 25% thanks to DGD and unlimited try quizzes.
genuinely had no clue what was going on half the time. the material is so odd and hard and baseless. the dgds help quite a bit though.
The concepts were very confusing and you had to read the textbook to understand the lectures. It's also sort of like math in that you get it or you don't and you have to do practice problems and be attentative
Cannot figure why he got 4.6. He always makes an easy course more difficult. Marking extremely strict. Sometimes give you a zero when you are supposed to get full mark. Even you talk to him, he thinks he always be correct and refuses to change his marking. After his operation, I only got B+ instead of A. AVOID HIM.
Great professor, gives a free 25% just from attendance and unfailable quizzes. As long as you put in effort practising the material and questions you will get a great mark.
Great guy
Rusnock made logic fun and as easy as possible. I would definitely recommend taking any course with him. His office hours are super helpful and all the assignments and exams were fair. Not a bird course by any means, go to class and OH. Overall great course :)
I'm sure he is a great prof in person however I had him fully online and it was horrible. The TAs didn't even know what they were teaching so we were on our own for the entire semester. Mathematical concepts and lots of material to cover in a short period of time. Do not recommend unless absolutely MANDATORY
Took the course online, so only a DGD portion in class (attendance 10%). The prerecorded lectures were fine. A big part of the course is propositional logic so if you struggle with that type of logic this course may not be for you.
I had one tutorial with him a week, and he's really nice and he really wants you to understand the concepts. So if you ever have any questions, don't be afraid to ask him. The course can be confusing sometimes so just try your best to understand the materiel, and you should be fine. He also provided weekly quizzes which helped boost your grade.
This class and professor is not for the lazy. It's a very interesting class and Paul Rusnock makes it more intriguing. I had a tutorial once a week that really helped with comprehension. The textbook and attendance is mandatory but it's quite an easy class if you dedicate a lot of time to it.
The most confusing class with the most confusing prof. If you want to be able to read what he writes on the board don't take this class. His handwriting is impossible to read.
Really great at explaining complicated logic and is willing to walk you through each step. 2 midterms and an exam he thoroughly prepped you for. If you want to do well you have to get the course reader that breaks down everything discussed in lectures. Super kind and wants to help you learn
He's a good prof and all but he becomes pretty boring (he doesn't really teach the most fascinating of subjects either). He's really good though for helping you outside of class and his exams are fairly easy if you know your stuff a bit.
Most boring class I've ever taken but easy. Most of the stuff is common sense. I only studied for the midterms and final the night before and did fine.
He's a nice guy and always willing to help, but the class can get a bit confusing at times. Once you take the time to really understand the material, it becomes super interesting and even fun! Be ready to put in some effort, but it's worth it if you enjoy a challenge.
This class is arguably one of the hardest classes I've ever had to take but Paul made it a bit easier. Content overall is still hard to understand and grasp but him and his TA's are very helpful and want you to succeed. He's funny, understanding and a great dude. Would take him again, just not this class.
Professor Rusnock is fantastic! Logic is not an easy course at all, but you could not possibly ask for a better professor to teach it. He is super accessible and helpful in office hours, and sets students up to succeed. The questions on the exams are always exactly what you're given for practice. I would recommend this professor to anyone.
Defo recommend him,its easy but still bit logical and need attention he explains it well but if u want good grades u hv to go to his lec, help alot. get ur book ASAP its not that expensive. i didnt pay attention in start. i quickly realise it gets tougher if u dont, only tip is sit close to him cuz he sometime speaks a bit low otherwise goodluck!!
Paul is great, the class can be confusing at times but if you practice enough you should be good. If you do bad it's lowkey a skill issue.
not an easy elective whatsoever
Professor was always very understanding and willing to help. You could tell he wanted his students to do good in the class. His exams are fair and he well prepares you for the exams.
Don't take Logic, and especially not with Rusnock. I am normally fine with professors' stricter policies/expectations, especially in comparison to some of my peers, but Rusnock is a certain exception. Between the breakneck pace and his complete lack of sympathy (he seems to not even be aware the class is difficult), he was miserable to deal with.
this class might have been the most boring and useless class of my life. Took it thinking it was a bird class and it was not. glad to be done
Look, he seems nice, but he's stuck in the old ages. His lectures and powerpoints are confusing, and his little paper binded "textbook" from Laurier Office Mart makes nothing clear. The only reason I passed this class was because of the 10 attempt quizzes.
The class is challenging but engaging. Professor Rusnock is passionate about the material and wants students to succeed. Attend the tutorials and use unstuckstudy for extra practice - it really helped boost my understanding.
Course was extremely complicated, but Rusnock did his best to support us. He was very nice, helpful and attentive but you must give 110% to do well in the course. Go to every class, every DGD even if you don't want to, and go to office hours when needed. Finally, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE UNLESS IT IS REQUIRED FOR YOUR MAJOR.
Good prof but course is hard.
Prof Rusnock is one of the best uOttawa profs I've had so far. He makes obtaining an A very achievable. He's always helping students during office hours and providing hints for the exams. If you attend class and do all the practice questions you will succeed.
Rusnock was an amazing professor, I would take this class again 100%. Those who didn't like the class was because of the difficulty of the course material, not the prof. He did a great job at explaining hard and confusing topics and is very patient, always happy to answer questions.
Professor Rusnock is by far the most fantastic instructor I have ever had the pleasure of having. Not only is the course material incredibly interesting, but he teaches it in a way that, once it gets into your head, it STICKS. I took this class first semester of my first year and to this day still talk about how much I loved it.
I have Professor Rusnock currently and he is one of my favourite teachers. He tries his best to make sure students understand the content. I found the course hard but the professor himself is good. Since it was an online course he did his best to give hints what would be on the midterm which was helpful. Just study hard for the content.
His tests are straight-forward and are exactly what is taught in class. As long as you practice the questions given in the textbook, you should be good to go!
actually one of the hardest classes I've taken so far, Nothing made sense, Majority of the information in the textbook and on the slides contradicts itself on the practice quizzes that are available to help study. You have to know random facts everything about to be able to answer half of the questions properly, if you don't, good luck to you.
Honestly I love this guy he's super sweet and I can tell he teaches because he wants to. The course itself I find very difficult and most questions on the exam are also pretty hard. Not the teachers fault but wished the long answer questions were more easier since this is an intro!
Rusnock is a great dude and would recommend going to his office hours. That being said the course is AWFUL. The hardest classes I have taken in 3 years of uni. If it is not mandatory, STAY AWAY. The content is so confusing, there are wrong answers, and a lot of answers in the text book contradict themselves/other questions which makes success hard.
The prof is lovely but the course material is extremely difficult. The hardest class I have ever taken in my entire life. Not to mention, you have to know random facts that I would definitely not consider common knowledge or you won't do well. If you do not have to take this class, save yourself the trouble and DO NOT. Good luck if you do!
Course material itself can be quite challenging to understand and master, but I can't emphasize this enough PRACTICE THE TEXTBOOK NONSTOP. Paul is literally the cutest prof ever and is so sweet and nice to talk to. He is never trying to trick you on anything. Only graded by two midterms (30% for your higher grade/20% for your lower) and a final 50%
