Excellent prof. Don't believe all the bad reviews - they are from slackers. Do the work and you will learn a lot and also get an A.

Sherwood isn't the best of teachers, but he makes the class fun and keeps you awake and interested as best as he can. You do have to work on ur own for this class, but that's not his fault! He also has his favourites. He's kind of like a grown-up uni student.

Great Prof

It's almost like he enjoys making the course difficult for students to pass because he knows it's a requirement for BComm. He never had office hours available, or an office phone # to reach him. He only gives you his email, and then, he doesn't even repl to that. But when you manage to get time outside of class time, he can be very helpful.

Impossible to contact. No office hours, phone number and doesn't respond to e-mails. Exams are difficult and seems like he wants student to do poorly. Nice guy, but terrible prof.

Great prof. You'll do good in the class as long as you do the assignments and read the modules. Always cares about his students, and helps them out in any way they need.

He was HARD! He didn't want to give you answers, so you HAD to learn it by yourself; which is understandable. He would help you, office hours are def. worth going. I learned a lot from this man. Really nice too, HARD, that's all I gotta say. Hated his pop quizzes.

Dr. P. Sheerwood is awesome! I have him for two classes and i find him very helpfull! his pop quizes are so easy, and boost your mark up because he gives you so many of them, bascily every second class, but they're only worth 2 points. and so easy!! hes so helpful too!! make you you take MSGC1205 and CISY1225 with him, he rocks!!

Pay attention, do the practice questions provided, ask questions if you don't understand. Easy person to talk to if you show that you are at least making an effort and gives good hints to questions and quizzes if you are listening.

I took this class as an elective and it proved impossible! It seems that Sherwood purposely tries to make the delivery of information hard to follow. Pop quizzes were on information we had not learned yet and his exams would cover topics we barely touched upon. I hated this class!

In order to do well in this class - attendance is key, and do the practice problems. Helpful tip: use "print screen" to capture the examples he uses in class (complete with the formulas)because he will not provide any notes. I managed to get a B+ in his class =)

this proff is awesome, such an easy class. he teaches CISY 1225 which is easy, and Quant 1 which is easier. a super good teacher and super nice!

just ignore every single bad comment u read about him, he is 1 of the best professor in smu ,before taking 1225, i saw the comments and some friends told me he is bad, when i went to his class, i discovered how amazing this professor was, if u want to do well, u will, just attend class, take notes, and practice as he said, easy A+, i got 107/100

Be forewarned: this class requires practice outside of class time, requires detailed note taking and a lot of focus during class. This is a useful course since not a lot of people KNOW how to use Excel and Access. Great course and the prof is helpful. He does warn you that the course is very focused based.

Sherwood runs an easy, easy class. There are so many bonus points, if you aced it, you'd have a grade of 125%. Unfortunately, you do have to attend, and it's dull. Also, don't buy the text book, it's COMPLETELY useless.

Highly recommend!Gives lots of bonus & have chance to get 100%+. Attendace is not mandatory but if U miss 1 quiz U will get hurts: less bonus U will get and he will put quiz quesions on exam. Textbook is useless, do not buy it just go class! I got an A+. Learned very helpful concepts for doing 3rd&4th year commerce courses.

Class is like watching paint dry but not the prof's fault. He's engaging and helpful, but the course material is just incredibly dry. Don't buy the textbook, just make sure you go to class and follow along with him and you'll do fine. Next to no homework required.

Gave so many bonus points, I failed several assessments, and still ended up with an A+ in the end. Not the most interesting class, but you do learn some interesting tricks in excel. And hey, you can add it onto your resume. He picks favourites, so I suggest you be one of them.

I don't understand why people don't like him. He's very helpful and gives so many chances to do well. Attendance is really important not only for quizzes but for the little tricks he teaches every class. If you go to every class, and read the material he gives you, you'll be fine in the quizzes and in the exams.

Just finished this class. Was extremely difficult class but a great prof. Many quizes (worth very little overall) that helped you improve on your skills throughout the term. He will ask you prior to quiz if you understand and the quiz will be on what is covered that day in class. Attendance is manditory to pass. Otherwise you will get lost.

Most helpful class I took at this school

All you have to do to get a good mark in this class is show up & pay attention No idea why people find him hard. I literally did no homework or studying, didn't even buy the textbook and did well There's a lot of quizzes but they're not worth very much each he's really funny and if you actually go to class & do what your supposed to you'll be fine.

Paul is an excellent professor. This class is the most beneficial of all classes you will take in your first year. It really applies to the real world. Paul makes this class fun and entertaining and makes sure you understand. It's not difficult as long as you show up to class and pay attention.

If you show up to class and pay attention it will be and easy A. Mid-terms and final were taken directly from class examples and with the added bonus points, they were very easy to do well on. He is a funny guy and he makes class fun and interesting. I Would definitely take another class from him.

He is one of my favourite professors. His teaching skills are okay but he is very helpful and you will not be bored in class one bit.

Prof. Sherwood was overall a really good prof. He was good at explaining, he took his time making sure that everyone understood what he was doing, and would help if you were stuck. As long as you show up, pay attention. and do the explanations along with him on your computer, you should do fine. I wouldn't bother with the textbook.

He's a great prof, gives super easy assignments, and he makes sure everyone gets the material before continuing. He's pretty funny as well.

Professor Sherwood was/is the best. He encourages class participation and student interaction. However, you need to penuine effort in class

Sherwood is the coolest! Very laid back and easy going, and always stays after class to answer any questions. During lectures, he encourages questions and doesn't ever make you feel stupid. All in all, a great guy. However, he can sometimes manage to make a simple thing complicated, and he confused the class on several occasions. Book helps.

I failed thiscourse the first time and thought that a new prof the second time around would help me get the material. I was so right, went from a F to an A. As long as you go go class and do the homework you'll pass. He cares about answering your every question. All his tests are material taken from assignments. Strongly recommend him.

Made me love math again, he was always willing to help students out and even tutored for a course he didn't teach because students were struggling. If you focus on the lectures and take notes any assignment he gives is easy. He's kind but he loves to tease. He genuinely cares about his students and is by far one of the best profs at smu

Paul is very humours! He has a very solid background of Microsoft excel, Access and helps the student as far as they needed

A good prof, really care about students. Always happy to answer questions even in his class. But a little bit difficult and if you always skip class, you won't pass.

Prof. Sherwood is spectacular! He obviously cares a lot about his students and tries his best to encourage class participation. He'll single you out and ask questions but it's always very friendly and playful. Two of his students failed to submit their midterms due to program failures and he did a makeup for them immediately. Very helpful!

Amazing prof, kind and super accessible. My peers and I were struggling in another course and he offered to host a tutorial for us to help us. 10/10 would take again

The guidelines on rate my professor state that you cannot claim that a professor shows favouritism, so I won't ;). He's funny, laugh at his jokes and play along. There is a lot of ambiguity in some of his questions but overall it's a really easy class and you learn some cool stuff that is immediately usable in your day to day life.

His lectures are engaging, follow along and you'll do well. Gives bonus questions on midterms. If you pay attention in class it's not hard to get 100 on midterms. Pearson homework is boring, time consuming and irrelevant but that's standard across all sections. Only complaint is he doesn't answer his emails. I would recommend this prof.
