Worst Professor ever!!!!!!
I found him really clear, with lots of real-world examples to help you remember what you learn.
Just because you have to study doesn't mean the prof sux! He is great and u have to keep up with him, otherwise go to the Beauty School! :)
He's a nice guy with a good sense of humor - but that doesn't help his teaching ability. He's brief, inarticulate and unclear, and tests you on lecture material. Stay away from this class if you want a grade that reflects your hard work!
Confusing lectures, yes but once you decode his style it's actually pretty simple. Make sure you pay attention, tests will be multiple choice from the text, but short answer from the lecture. OH, makes weird voices sometimes...
The exact opposite of what he tells you is on the exam. This guy loves graphs, and more graphs and more graphs. Mid exam, 5 graphs. He is very unsensitive to students needs. WORST PROF. IN YORK HISTORY

he was a good prof... lots of readings but what he said would be on the test was actually on it.. while his notes were not the best, i found that if you do the readings and you'll do great.

This prof is AWESOME. He is always willing to help in any way he can, and course content is very interesting. Very helpful, and just wants to see his students do well and have fun learning.
I don't know how he is for upper level courses but STAY AWAY FROM HIM FOR INTRO TO PSYCH...I never had any idea who he was talking to because no one ever had a clue what was going on...SA part of exams are ridiculously hard...TAs in this course SUCKED!!
Bad teacher for intro to psych, he is very articulate and obviously knows what he is talking about, but first year students don't! [I think he forgot that] o Yea and he HATES when ppl talk, he will walk out on the class if there is too much noise!
I was really worried when I read this coming into PSYCH 1010, but there isn't that much to be worried about. He's a good guy; approachable, and answers questions when you have them. I strongly recommend reading before lectures b/c they can be confusing.

Exams are too hard. Lectures are boring even though he attempts humour. Approachable enough if you have a question. Walks out of lecture if the class is noisy.
i was told by his ta's that his intro psyc course is the hardest in the whole university. if you actually want a C average to continue in psyc, do not take it with this man! trust me. he may be approchable for questions, but his tests are very hard.

Arrogant, rude, condecending...the list can go on forever. Besides his tests being extremely difficult...his lectures are boring, and he is not helpful when it comes to test review. The worst prof ever. I'm surprised he's still employed with York.
I liked him, mind you I took the course about, wow, 8 years ago. But he was funny, to the point, and kept good control of the class. I got an A so I was happy.

I was enrolled in his class but I had to get out! He and the class material are very boring. He is also too picky-no food or drinks allowed in class and you have to tell him before class if you are going to be leaving early. Does not stop for powerpoint

OMG he's extremely difficult, goes way too fast, and his tests have nothing to do w/ the lectures. i dropped psych as my major.
Frustrating, very frustrating. Guys- forget it. It does not matter if you are smart, have A's in all other courses, taking 2 or 3 year- DON'T EVEN TRY. HE WILL FAIL 30-35% of the CLASS, THE REST WILL GET C-s and C+ THAT's HIS GOAL>remember that. (Graduate student who had Stager as a worse nightmare)
Another 1st year who dropped a minor in psych because of him. Got a C after lots of studying and attending every class. Thought I was the problem, but it appears to be him. Didnt make psych at all enjoyable or easy! Yelled at students often, and got mad at people for writing down his lecture notes.
God is this guy terrible. The first class he announced to us that 50% of us would fail. He just stands there and talks about stuff in a monotone voice and telling jokes that only he laughs at. Tests include his lecture material which is impossible to understand. TA taught the course better than him.
Tried to upgrade my last test mark but couldnt because the answer I wrote (which was in text and lecture notes) but the TA couldnt upgrade it. This was b/c my answer (which was correct) had to be the same as HIS answer on marking scheme (also correct, just a diff fact). Now, if this isnt BS what is?
With all personal things aside, as a teacher, he scores very low. Speaks way too fast, assumes that you know everything, and no clarity what so ever in his teaching. If you are really interested in going on with psychology, don't take his courses.
I just can't believe that this guy is still teaching. I took intro to psych with him and thought that I was the only one who couldn't understand a f***ing thing but apparently he is just incoherent and useless - time for York to invest in some worthwile and caring profs - STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!!

Unless you are already knowledgable in psyc I wouldn't recommend him. He goes through chapters too fast, expects you to know everything, speaks in one tone of voice. He tells you things aren't going to be on the test and then they are. Go figure. Psyc is a good course, only if you don't have as prof

He really deserves a higher rating! Granted, i didn't take psyc 1010 with him, but as a 4000-level prof, he's actually good. Easy marker, interesting lectures. Sometimes he really can be vague, but thats how all 4000-level courses and profs are. After reading reviews here, I was pleasantly surprised

Rudest prof I have ever had. Does not care about the students at all. Teaches course totally different then anyone else, and unless you know math and engineering you are screwed. Will not take time to talk or help you. Will not allow you to even drink water during lecture. TA is great though
Dr. Stager makes comma patients look like party animals. HE'S SO BORING! He never gives any time to copy lecture material, he tells you material isn't that important then puts it on tests. Talks in monotone, makes the simplest terms as complex as possible, not helpful at all - WORST PROF EVER.

I really feel I need to give poor Dr. Stager a good review to balance out all the crap ones. Yes, he is a little monotone and might put stuff on the exam which makes you wonder where he got it from. But, go to class and read the damn textbook and you'll do fine. I got an A, so it is possible!
Lectures were overly loaded, no powerpoint were avalaible for classes, and the tests were very difficult.
He is very intelligent no doubt, but he is so pompous and arrogant. His lectures had no fluidity with the textbook, not to mention his tests which always the begs the question "when the hell did he teach this?" In the end I realized this course was really taught by Wayne Wieten 6th Ed.
Lectures lack clarity and interest. Tests lack reasonable and clear questions. Online notes lack existence. Professor lacks helpfulness, ingenuity, and clarity. The only good thing about this course was the textbook.
im a business student and took this coure as an elective bcs i WAS very interested in Psych.but with Stager (God forgives him)i say that the stupidest mistake i ever did in my entire life was to take this course,very fast,unclear,very hard tests, that u dont know where the hell they come from!!!!!!!

Very smart man but tests are WAY too hard! Everything he says that will be on the exam never is. Short answers are ridiculous and even if you study your in trouble. Do not take intro to psych with this professor, you will regret it and may end up having to retake the course!!!

Lectures not clear at all
I agree with the others. He wasn't a good teacher. Sure, if you read the text you'd be ok, but he was unclear, unfocused, and he took the overheads away without letting the students copy. He claimed that those notes were unnecessary, but questions for those notes were on EVERY exam. Don't take his class!
I hate his guts.me sounds like a robot, pure monotone, never lets you copy the notes, it the most annoying person when trying to be funny especially when he does those sound imitations, by far the worst proffesor i have ever had .

Paul Stager was by far the worst prof that i have ever taken. God knows how i ended up with an A but no thanks to him. I don't dispute the notion that Dr. Stager knows his stuff. But his knowledge is almost useless if he's unable to effeciently convey that information to his students...he is a PROFF, after all. His true success therefore lies in whether he can teach well or not. He really sucks, and the text book taught me more than he ever could have.

Stager by far is the worst prof. Being a former student & recent grad,Stager discourages students away from a great degree. His unrealistic tests,pompeous attitude & lack of caring only reflects his nose-browsing ivy league upbringing. Please don't let this prof prevent you from taking an interest in psych. There are good profs in the psych dept.
He's by far the worst prof I've had this year.I was a psych major,and he completely scared me away from that area!No matter how hard you study for his tests it won't pay off.He has this habit of coughing and sneezing into the microphone,and he moves slides quickly,and mumbles when he talks.He's boring,I need a coffee to stay awake every morning!
If you want to get a decent mark..DONT MISS ANY CLASSES!!! not even ONE! on the tests he pulls short answers from what he talked about in class..have a tape recorder with you (my suggestion!) i found it really difficult! reading from the book was so interesting, but his lectures were so not!! good luck hes hard, go to a diff prof

This professor truly does not know how to teach, his slide show presentations are useless as he does not take the time to go through them with you properly. His TA Susan Chang is crap! When you ask for help, she can't help you because she doesn't speak ENGLISH! Overall this professor is by far the worst! do yourself a favour: DROP HIS COURSE!
It seriously makes you wonder what it takes to become a professor at York when you encounter people like Stager. He is TERRIBLE at it... I mean, it says a lot that his class average this year was BELOW 50%!!!! I heard students have tried to petition him off in the past too!! Future students BEWARE!!!!!
I was so interested in this class and he just killed off my desire to be a Psychologist. It was just that bad. He'd put up slides, but he'd get mad if you copied them instead of paying attention to him, so he'd skip through them really quickly and a lot of the test material was from those slides. :( Very bad...

I had him last yr. and even though I STILL think he's the hardest prof. I'll ever get, I think he is great if you REALLY wana know all you can about Psych (intro). I am taking all these psych courses now and I can still recall some of the stuff i learned last yr.BEST ADVICE:GO TO THE TA and ask them stuff from lectures ESP. the graphs! :S GOODLUCK.
Boring prof! he uses power point and doesn't stop he just charges on. He doesn't seem interested in helping students, just hands them off to TAs. The best part of class is break, the 7min he gives. he won't let you eat or drink and @ 8am sitting in the front helps keep u awake but coffee or breakfast out of the question there. very textbook talking
The most incompetent professor I have ever had. Incredibly horrible teacher, his lectures are virtually nonsensical and he doesn't bother to explain FUNDAMENTAL concepts. Absolutely mind-numbingly, hair-pulling bad. I cannot express in words how horrible he is. I hope he gets fired.
HARD This guy does not believe in the internet! He'll never post anything online and forbids his TA's to post anything. Hardest Psych prof of all. While other classes have the first 3 chapters on their first exam, he gives chapters 1,2,3, 7 (long chapter), 11 (long chapter) 25% of exam was on lectures which did not have anything to do with chapters

This guy is terrible. He should get fired. Judge for yourselves. There are 148 comments here and his average is 1.8 out of 5.0. Avoid this Prof at all cost. He is the kind of Prof who has a negative impact on students, which is something VERY WRONG!!! If we pay 1000$ for this class, we should get our money's worth but we don't with this guy.

His tests were hard but if you needed any help he was there to answer any question. You have to attend class or you will fail the short answer questions. I found it hard to adjust to his teaching style at first but once I did I was fine. He's a really great person and all he wants is for his students to do well.I would like to be in his class again
He is extremely useless, he goes faster then anyone can handle and does not post his lectures and doesnt let you write them down because by the time you have a senence down hes changing the slides. he made me HATE the class and ultimately switch schools.
The only reason I did well is because we had an awesome TA. The guy cannot teach to save his life. I would look at my notes after class and cry. I tried asking him for help, but his answer was incomprehensible and condescending. Yeah, pretty bad.
i dont get why his ratings are so low, he might not be the funnest .. or nicest but he does his job. as long as you do your readings and pay attention in lecture you should be fine. it takes alot of work but its not impossible to get a good grade with him.

Honestly, his tests are REALLY hard and he makes them very tricky, so even if you know the material, he usually finds a way to screw you over... BUT if you attend all his classes and read over the textbook VERY THOROUGHLY you should be able to get a DECENT mark in his class.... I mean DECENT... dont bother striving for high grades in Stagers class
If your in university to slack off and get by without learning then your not in the right class. Stager makes you work hard because thats what your university dollars pay for!! if your looking for anything less, you dont deserve to be in his class anyways
Prof. Stager is a great. He responds to student email promptly. His course is challenging. I took AP psych in high school, and I find his course refreshingly tough. It's Psychology as a Science. :-) It's a lot of work, so don't take it if it's not your major or if you don't have a deep interest in it. Work hard and you will learn SO much.

I wasn't even going to rate anyone until I saw all the negative comments. He really is a nice guy and I feel like he did his best to keep the class entertaining. I found sitting in the front row helpful, as he does tend to see you raise your hand to ask questios more when you sit in the front. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
It was a hard class, but it was not impossible to do well. I did well and I know other people who did as well. Go to class, and try as much as you can to listen (it was hard for me..since classes were at 8:30) and just study lol
He wasn't the greatest professor but he wasn't that bad. He is not very helpful and lectures were boring. If you have issues with the material...Go to your T.A.s. Also keep up with readings. I ended up getting a B+.
Vey godd prof, attend class and go to the TA for extra clarifcation. TA is your best friend in this class
