Mr. Stearns is a great teacher! He's interested in the subject and he really cares about what the students have to say. I took him for Logic, when he worked out a problem on the board, he asked what we got then we would compare th answers. I put very little effort into the class and ended up with a 102. Super easy and understanding.
You can make an A on every quiz and still learn nothing. He doesn't teach you anything for long term memory. You can pass quizzes by listening to the pre-quiz review. His teaching style is poor but he is easy to pass and the final doesn't count for too much.
He is the best teacher I've had, very nice teacher and very clear. He gives counterarguments to everyones arguments to make them think. I learned something new every day. Know the fallacies!
Excellent class
VERY GOOD TEACHER! EASY A.. LOVED IT! :)
very cool teacher and a awesome technique
Very relaxed, down to earth teacher. Easy A! There is a couple essays required, but he cares about his students and helps out in any way he can. The class was fun! Take Mr. Stearn :)
He was my favorite professor at Blinn. He's so kind, and teaches in a way to make you think about things in a different light. He's definitely a must-take if you get a chance!
SUPERRR easy! you just have to do the assignments given and he gives extra credit. I pretty much BSed my way through and still came out good!
i think that he is really helpful and available his lessons are clear and he only tests you on what he reviewed and he is a really nice teacher
He is a very intelligent, soft-spoken, interesting man. He makes a bunch of references to torturing kittens. You will like philosophy if you take him. He is also one of the nicest people who takes late work and will help you with anything.
His class is very easy as long as you take notes and listen. tests are basic information and he grades pretty easy. doesn't get mad, super easy-going guy. small book and you only use it half the semester. pretty great class.
He's an incredibly nice teach who covers a lot of material in a clear, entertaining matter. It is a VERY easy class, yet if you are interested, will learn a lot. Professor Stearns is very passionate about his work too, he even has his own Youtube series to help you out!
He is a very good teacher! Loves to talk about ethics and is very passionate for it. He always has a smile and is always in a great mood. His lectures are very interesting and he allows you to speak up for your own opinions. It is an easy class, and he is always very helpful if you need it. Definitely Recommend.
Literally the best professor I've had. I'm in his online class and went to see him in person and he was so helpful! He wants you to understand and get a better understanding for ethics. His online lectures are interesting and his video's are funny! Take him!!!!!
Professor Stearns was great. As long as you are interested in his class you will do just great. Have an open mind and you will learn alot. He has 2 tests and (a 5 page paper over anything you go over in the semester or a presentation to the class) whichever you prefer. These count for the majority of the grade. The rest are just little papers.
Mr. Stearns is the best, I've known him for about two years and he's always been so helpful. The best teacher at Blinn!
Very easy class and amazing professor!!! I loved this class!! There are really only 3 grade. 2 exams and a paper. So you can easily pass or easily fail so make sure you pay attention and take notes.
This class was incredible. It is what you make of it. It is a fairly easy A as long as you listen to the lectures once or twice and take good notes, but if you fully become involved in it, it can really change your world view. Stearns is an incredibly clear professor and his lectures are interesting and funny. Two exams and one paper.
This class was one of the best I have taken. Prof Stearns was extremely diligent in his teaching style online. Unlike all other online professors, Prof Stearns was engaged with our discussion posts and made us seem like we were a community even though we didn't meet face-to-face. The class was interesting.
I LOVED his class. He does handouts with his lectures which is super helpful when it comes time for exams. There's only two tests the final and midterm and they are not hard at all. His lectures are so insightful and allows you to gain a new perspective. He's just an all around great professor and his class is a must take!!
Mr. Stearns was hands down the best professor I've ever had. He engages with the class online, answers any questions you have, and wants you to succeed. I wish every professor were like him.
Sense of humor is fantastic,,,,feedback is right on track,,discussion board was invaluable. Definitely a Yoda Professor!
Great class so far! (I am half way through the online class) Get ready to read the book, listen to long videos, and do weekly homework. Not too bad, but you won't do well if you don't put in the work for it. The material needs to be reviewed a few times to fully understand, but not my hardest class I've taken.
I would recommend this professor to anyone! I am taking his online class, and am almost done with it. It is hard but if you keep up with the discussion forum and complete the weekly quizzes, you will do just fine. Awesome professor who engages with his online class and stays involved.
This class was actually very interesting. I actually learned a lot in this online course, but the lectures are heavy. You have a discussion every wk and quizzes every wk for like the first 8 wks. He grades very hard on the short answer questions of midterm and final exam, but if you really try throughtout the class you can make a A or B.
I love Mr. Stearns and the class. It was not very difficult at all. There are a few papers to write and tests. He is very helpful if you aren't understanding certain concepts. Definitely worth taking, you won't regret.
Excellent Professor!! Very understanding, gives full directions, answers emails quick. The lectures are heavy but also clear. If he gives extra credit, make sure you participate. The book is needed in his class. The exams are short answer questions with open book. This class requires lots of thinking outside the box. Highly recommend Mr. Stearns!!!
Great Prof, took for Ethics online. I have never had a more engaging online class that felt like I was actually in class. I was worried about this class because I felt like it would be a lot of reading and writing. Which it was but, it was interesting and you really enjoy the class. It really helps that Prof Stearns is engaged! take his class!
This was my favorite class of the semester. I took all online classes and this one was by far superior to set up. He gives lecture videos but also has his own websites where it is all in a text. Have to post 4 times in the discussion boards, but they prepare you for the quizzes and exams. Highly recommend this teacher.
Great class where you actually learn what you are studying. Very understanding professor. 4 discussion posts a week but they are very helpful with learning the material, and he actually discusses it with you and gives you more ideas to think about. He leaves feedback on all assignments so that you can see where you need to improve. Great prof.
Awesome Professor! Easy A and you learn a lot. His online class was super organized and he responded within the hour. The course is set in weekly modules. His tests are open note. The essays were rough to write but he gives great feedback and an easy A if you follow the criteria. He is super straightforward. I'd definitely take his class again!
Professor Stearns is an awesome teacher! He is very engaging with his students in weekly discussions. Gave quiz/exam hints and allowed you to use your notes. Midterm and final are proctored. There are two 4+ page papers due that are over theories covered throughout the semester. I would definitely recommend his course. ParticipationEasy A!
Paul Stearns was by far one of THE BEST professors I have ever had. I took philosophy at both Uni level and JC level and Paul was the best philosophy professor EVER. He always had the class engaged in the material we were covering. His lectures werent mundane or boring. Very smart, helpful, fun, encouraging professor.
An easy, interesting class! Makes it very easy for you to do well. I got an A and never read the textbook. Take really good notes he lets you use them on the midterm and final!
I gave the difficulty for his class a 2 but being tha tit was a philosphy class and professors assign so much for this I felt like it was fair enough homework. The lectures will make you fall asleep, but he has his own website and it tells you everything you need to know for the tests. Only 2 tests, 1 paper.
Best professor I have ever had. Offers extra credit. Discussion board posts every week. Professor Stearns is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about philosophy which makes the class so much better. Teaches you things way beyond the book. Class is structured very well.
I was looking forward to taking Ethics with Professor Stearns. Unfortunately, even if you get the content correct on a test, if Professor Stearns does not like the way you answered the question, you will be docked points. The class was very writing intensive, the material on the test is vastly different than in the book.
There was kind of a lot of homework but it was super easy. He is such a nice guy and has online lectures that explain everything really well! I got an A on both papers and I honestly did not put that much effort into them. Take this class!
LOVE LOVE LOVED this professor. He is the best. I have taken many online courses in the past, and by far, this course was the best. It wasn't to difficult BUT you do have to do the work. If you do the work and put in the time, this course will be a breeze. 100% recommend.
Professor Stearns was one of the best professors Ive ever had! This class was online and I wish that I had the opportunity to be in class with him! Theres a good amount of work to do in the class but his expectations and lectures are EXTREMELY clear!! I highly recommend him and will miss not having him as a professor next semester!!
Professor Stearns makes learning the different philosophical theories easy. This was the fist online class I took and it was pretty easy. You just have to make sure to log in twice a week. Overall I was very happy with this class.
I took this class online during a mayminimester and would 100% take it again! He was super accessible and made learning about ethics easy. He has his own website with videos and lectures on the topics you learn which make it a lot easier! He was very quick to get grades back to you. Overall, loved the class he was a great prof!
Mr. Sterns was a great prof and made the class way more interesting than it seemed. You do need the textbook when writing your essays but you could get by without it. He gave us 3 essays and I got above a 95 on all 3 with minimal effort. He is super understanding and easy to talk to if you need help or more time on an assignment.
Hes a great person, but an extremely tough grader. The way he weighs his grading is really unfair. Made all 100s, then made a 75 on the midterm and dropped to an 81. Made 100s for the rest of the semester and my grade has barely rose. I took his online Phil 1301 class, so Id suggest taking an in person class from him and see if its any better.
I took Mr. Stearns for online ethics and loved it. Learned a lot. He gives study guides, quiz hints and gives clear directions.
Prof. Stearns always gave hints in his discussion board for the quiz you had to take the same week. You have to post 4 times in the discussion board. Two major exams that he gives you reviews for. DO THE REVIEWS!!! Extremely helpful. Wrote two papers and followed the rubric. Pretty laid back and detailed with what he wants done.
I loved Professor Stearns class. I honestly thought it would be the usual rude and unwilling help instructor with lots of criticism. If you find language difficult this has to be the easiest course to take and Professor Stearns gave several opportunities for extra credit and turn in late course work with small penalties. Great Teacher !
I am not the biggest fan of philosphy to begin with, but the course was fair. Took the Maymester, so the course load was a lot, but well-laid out. Not the easiest class, but very doable.
Prof. Stearns is pretty easy going for a philosophy professor. Even though my class was entirely online, it was pretty straight forward and easy. Quizzes and discussion posts every week but he gives quiz answers in the discussion boards, so those those are easy 100s. Two tests that are proctored but are allowed to use notes. Highly recommend!
Professor Stearns is the best professor I have had so far. I took this class as flex online. He gives clear instructions of what is expected and grades very fairly. His discussion topics are interesting and he will also participate in the discussions. He offers extra credit. You will need use your book throughout this course. Take this course
Take this class!! Very reasonable on grading and he gives good feedback. He also makes it very clear what you need to know for the tests. Lots of discussion posts but they are easy and help you understand the topics. I would 100% take him again!
The absolute best professor Ive had so far. I took his Distance Education class, and it was more than great. Every week, there is a discussion post and a quiz, maybe an assignment. He gives test questions before a test, and always answers emails and gives feedback on every assignment. Extremely dedicated to his job and does a great job at it!
Very kind and charismatic about his class and teaching. The format in which he presents his class is very student friendly and allows everyone to use their best abilities to succeed. Allows for discussion in class that is very helpful and useful both for life and the class. If you need a Phil 2306 credit, take Stearns.
If you have to take Phil at Blinn take Stearns he is caring and his lectures are insightful and interesting. Pretty easy for a Phil course but you have to write a few short essays. Show up and do the work and you'll pass
LOVE! He is a very caring professor and was great to work with. There is a lot of work to be covered in 5 weeks. But that is to be expected. He clearly outlies expectations from the beginning and the work is clearly organized and easy to find. There is a TON of extra credit options. Really cannot recommend this professor enough.
My favorite prof Ive ever taken. A million times would take again! I HIGHLY recommend Mr Stearns. He is very considerate, easy to communicate with, and wasnt crazy on class work (but not a knock off class either). Wants you to succeed!!!
I took Prof. Stearns for an 8-week course--if you put some effort into the assignments you will do fine. 4 discussion posts and 4 quizzes (not proctored) a week, with the occasional essay. 2 major exams that are proctored, but open note. I took this class along with A&P2 and Micro and was still able to do fine.
Easy grader on papers. Do your discussion posts and quizzes and you will be fine!
Mini-mester 4-week course: He had discussion boards and quizzes over each lecture, but he gave quiz hints on each discussion board! Only two essays you got to choose the topic, and he graded them very easily. Only two tests are proctored, but if you do the reviews he gives, you will do fine! I definitely recommend taking Professor Stearns!
Very cool class that provides knowledge that will really stick with you. Two essays where you get to pick the topics. Exams are proctored but open note. Easy to communicate with and responds quick.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! There are alot of assignments and they all help your grade. Test are open note.
Such an amazing professor! I took the May mini. It's a lot of work but it's easy and really interesting. Prof gives super good feedback, answers all questions, and gets you interested in what we're learning. There are discussions, quizzes, 2 papers, an assignment, midterm, and final exam. 2 extra credit assignments. All are really easy.
This professor is soooo kind! I took an 8-week online course with him. Two discussion posts a week and occasional logic assignments. Two 3 page essays and only a midterm and final. His extra credit upped my grade by like 5 or more points! He's super good at responding to emails too. TAKE HIM!!!
I just finished taking his 8-week blended course. He was definitely very interesting, and overall, he is a very kind person. His course work is not hard at all! The essays that he requires are short and easy to write. Never once did his class stress me out. It is very easy to get an A in his class. I highly recommend taking this class.
LOVED this class and Prof Stearns! Took this fully online as an 8-week course and found it very manageable. Practically gives you test answers in the reviews and the final exam is easy. Textbook is also very light and enjoyable reading, it is structured more like a book. Quite literally just do the work with your best effort and an A will be easy.
I took an 8-week blended course with him. He makes you do one or two discussion post a week where you have to post four times also he does logic assignments. Two 3 page essays and only a midterm and final. Make sure you come to class he will give you the answers for the quizzes.
This professor is amazing. I took this professor during the winter minimester. The professor implemented daily quizzes, daily discussion posts, three writing assignments, and two tests (midterm and final). I highly recommend taking courses with this professor.
TAKE HIS CLASS! It wasn't difficult. He sometimes does participation stuff that you will turn in at the end of class but its not hard and he does it with you. I took him for ethics class; it was one of my favorite classes until today. If you come to class, you can get some extra credit by participating!
I took this as Summer II class don't get me wrong cramming 4 mths of a class into 4 wks is hard when working a full time job but if you plan when to get it done youll be good. There are about 3-4 modules a week, each module has reading/videos, discussion forums (need to post 4 times per module) and a quiz. The final exam can have 2 note pages! easy
He has a pretty lenient grading policy, allowing up to 3+ weeks for late work. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. He assigns about 2 discussions a week with a minimum word count of 400 WORDS for a full score. Which doesn't sound like a lot until you have about 7 discussions due on the last week of school.
He is a very nice professor, some lecture stuff is funny, home work is not hard, two discussion posts and 2 quizzes for homework, if you go to class he will give you some of the answers to it! he is nice and comprehensive! definitely take this class!
Professor Stearns class on ethics is awesome he explains each module very well. He is always open to talking about what you think about each ethical theory we go over in class and makes the class period very enjoyable.
LOVED this course! Everything was clearly organized with set due dates- which made the course very easy to navigate. If you listen and take notes to the lectures, you will get a good grade. Never opened the textbook. Loved that Stearns has a whole phil website if you need help or want to dive deeper into topics and is very leniant with grades & EC.
I would take again. Just his lectures would become very boring but going to class helps because he gives answers to quizzes. But it is not hard to make an A if you just try.
Prof Stearns is fantastic! He truly adores what he teaches and does a great job at explaining course material. Two major essays + a midterm and a final with weekly homework, but very manageable for an eight-week course. His passion for philosophy made the course enjoyable, and he was always eager to answer questions or explain terms.
Super sweet, 8 weeks was lots of content, two papers, extra credit, 4 discussion posts per unit. Tests were two pages of front and back notes but if you pay attention you will be fine. Attendance is not required but trust me, go to this class it's helpful. Definitely an interesting class too
Such an amazing prof that actually cares about his students. he is super understanding. One of my favorites at Blinn. He also goes over very interesting things. Great guy and easy A just be ready for a lot of writing.
I took him for a winter mini and it was manageable. A lot of discussion posts and a total of 2 exams and 2 writing exams (midterm and final) all are proctored. I did really appreciate that we received the prompts for the writing exams so you can take notes and use them for it. Very responsive and extra credit assignments helped my grade a ton!
This guy is awesome! I ended up with an 100 in the class he gave extra credit at the end of the year and only gives a midterm and final, which are not hard if you do some of the work. Do take this class for a GPA boost or if you are trying to learn more about morality and ethical topics. Stearns is brilliant!
Stearns is a kind, intelligent professor. 10/10 recommend.
was his first time teaching PHIL 2303, super nice, class out of 100 total points 4 exams, just work through practice problems in the textbook, took as a math credit and was confusing since i had to completely learn the content, homework is around ten points, showing up helps so much, extra credit brings grade up four points if done right
Wonderful professor! The class is an 8-week blended class. It's so easy, just go to class. He gives answers to the quizzes in class, gives you a handout that's helpful for discussion boards, and gives you the midterm & final exam prompts beforehand and discusses it. The only thing is that it's a bit demanding because 2-3 modules are due each week.
I took him for PHIL 2303 Intro to Logic math class. It was definitely one of the more difficult math classes I have taken. You truly can't just wing this subject, I quite literally had to practice every single day. He is a great teacher and very understanding. His test reviews are pretty similar to the exams.
Prof Sterns was amazing! Intro to Logic is a hard class in general becuase it's unlike any math class you've ever taken, but Prof. Sterns really wants to make sure you understand what you're doing. Grade is based on tests, but not too difficult.
I took him for Philosophy Oct-Dec Fall 2024. He is so easy and understanding if you miss class. You really have to pay attention to the work and his youtube is very helpful. He teaches a little fast but you can go at your own pace as well! Love him! If you have to take PHIL choose him.
I just finished his 2306 ethics course as an 8-week! Definitely had to put in the work to get my A, but it was not a hard class at all! He explains everything well. Exams weren't hard if you followed the study guide. Gives extra credit throughout the course! Always responded quickly to emails, too! Take him!!
Professor Stearns is an amazing person and teacher. I just finished his 8 week course and highly recommend. The material is pretty easy to understand, and the assignments are relatively simple. Because it was a short course it can be a lot of material, but stay on track and you will be more than okay. Memorize and put in some effort for an easy A.
