I had Paul for ET2 and now for ET4 and he is the best. There is a decent amount of studying that needs to be done but you will learn a lot from him. He is also very funny....and a great beat boxer too.

Paul is incredibly helpful. I sucked when I first got my foot in the doo with ear training and Im finishing up 4 right now, and Im pretty damn good, thanks to paul. Pauls the best ear training guy at Berklee, I think. Hes always willing to work with you if you the effort in.
Paul is excellent... extremely helpful, and altho his class is not technically easy, he's such an effective instructor that with effort it is possible to really grasp the material. also, he's one funny ****... class was always something to look forward
My favorite teacher ever! An amazing musician, a patient and caring teacher. I would have taken his class every semester if I could have. He ALWAYS makes time for you. He made me give a****.
he is my favorite teacher at berklee. It was so easy to learn, and i achieved so much in that class.
Funny as all hell and really into his job. Good guy, good musician, good teacher. Sets up a ton of extra time to help - goes slow. Good for visual learners.
Great teacher! Down to earth and teachers more than just writing skills. Good teacher to have you you're serious about music and if you don't think you already know everything.
Awesome teacher. Paul is funny and always willing to help you out during his office hour. I learned so much from this guy. Please take him! One of the best teachers I've had at Berklee!
Paul was a great teacher, i took him for two straight semesters. I really learned a lot in his class and he was very laid back but helpful at the same time. Highly reccomended.
Paul is a Great Guy. Offers A LOT of out of class help, and is very funny and down to earth in class. I took his class for two straight semesters, and both semesters were great. I'm actually not taking ET this upcoming semester because he's not teaching ET 3. Take his class if you can, but they fill up quick!
Paul is my favorite teacher at Berklee so far! He is so patient, clear, and talented. He is not just passionate about Ear Training and how it applies to musicians of all majors, but also about each student. Very willing to work with students outside of class. Fair grader. Such a crack up! The hour just flies by with Paul's hysterical stories!
Paul is the man and owns all. Somewhat strict grader, but he's awesome.
Paul isn't the easiest grader, and you do have to work in his class. But he's a great guy, and all his classes (especially ET3 and up) are actually fun to be in. And who would have thought that actually working in Ear Training would make your ears better? If you want to get better and not hate the class at the same time, take from Paul.
Best teacher at Berklee I've had.
The man is amazing. He really cares about the class and his students plus hes effing hilarious. I love going to his class - he's help turn my entire ET career around. Paul rules.
Paul is one of the best teachers I've encountered at Berklee. He's helped me realized how valuable all the stuff is and even gets into real world examples.situations. He does everything he can to help you if your having trouble. He's a really funny guy with a real passion for teaching you the stuff so you can kick ass later on in you career.
Paul is the most genuine and practical teacher I've ever met. He's patient and understanding with his students and helps you with your work whenever required.
Paul is the best ET teacher out there. Take him if you can. He really cares and will help you with anything you need in his office hours or after class. A truly inspiring man.
Paul is the best. Funny, motivational, but he'll make you work. Great Ear training teacher.... he beat boxes like a mad man too!
He makes sure that people learn the stuff. He has extreme motivation towards being an Ear Training teacher and being a musician. Always trying to make it easier and understandable for all. Extremely funny and truthful.
Hands down for Paul. Not taking any other ET classes if it's not Paul. He's such a funny guy, awesome and he really does care about you.
Paul's the best ET teacher in the whole of Berklee. Take him for all your ET courses if you can! He really knows his stuff and teaches it well. Somewhat of a tough grader but take him if you really want a vast improvement in your ears!
Best Teacher I have ever had. He is extremely helpful. He is there for his students. He holds free classes for whoever wants to learn all the time. Best Ear training teacher at Berklee. He keeps you into what we are studying. He jokes. Really helps with your ear training
Paul is not only a great ear training teacher, he is a great human being. He's the kind of guy who just being in his presence puts you in a better mood. He has a phenomenal ear and he knows how to teach it.
Paul is an amazing teacher. He is one of the funniest guys ever, and I actually look forward to class every other day with him because he makes me laugh AND learn! He really does want us to do a good job, and he's honest with you about the things you need to work on but is a complete sweetheart about it. Take Paul for all your ear training classes!
A...... MAZING. Paul is aswome he loves ear training and he loves teaching it. he really cares. if you want to learn and have fun doing it.... take him!!! TAKE HIM.
Debating pushing back ET4 a semester just so I can take paul again. The only word that comes close to describing him is amazing.
Paul is awesome. Seriously. I had the worst experience in Ear training 1. I hated ear training before I took Paul's class. Some aspects of the class are still a struggle for me but its really only due to my own limitations. Paul makes class very easy to understand and he's a really funny teacher. He quotes the simpsons a lot. Take him!!
Paul knows how to teach! He is hilarious and extremely challenging at the same time. I wanted to work hard in/for his class!! He moves very quickly through material, but he's such a good teacher it seems easy. He will give you a second chance if you mess up. His piano skills are phenomenal and he can solfedge anything.Favorite teacher@berklee byfar
The most popular Ear Training teacher at Berklee. He is extremely clear and helpful which makes the class easy. But remember, you will have to practice outside of class in order to succeed. Great teacher, great class!
Take him and ET will be just fun for you! He really knows how to teach and loves to do that. Thanks Paul! I dream a world full of Paul Stiller style teachers!
he is an amazing person and teacher that is truly devoted to his work and his students. my favorite teacher at berklee!!!
Gives you lots of work, but is SUCH a good teacher. I had him for ET 2, 3, & 4 and doing the work was totally worth it. My ear has improved tremendously and he is so funny! Thanks Paul! You're awesome!!!
Paul is A GREAT teacher and is SOOO helpful! He would hold extra classes that we could go to for extra dictation practice. He knows his students and he is VERY funny. I'm taking him for ear training as much as possible!
An absolutely inspiring and amazing teacher. I learned SO much from him. He makes sure his students feel comfortable and makes an effort to get to know all his students on a personal level. Very helpful, he makes it clear he doesn't want anyone to fail his course! Highly recommended. He's absolutely hilarious, a definite plus.
teacher grades extremely hard
paul is the best teacher at berklee. seriously. take him for all et's if you can. he wants you to learn the material and pass the class. he holds extra dictation classes (taken from his own personal time) in an effort to help you succeed. he is the most inspiring teacher i have ever met.
Paul is one of the best teachers you could ever have at Berklee. He takes the material seriously, but is able to break it down in a way that is completely understandable. Make sure to practice though! Paul's teaching can only get you so far; you have to earn your grade!
Definitely one of the absolute BEST teachers I've had since being at Berklee. He's super funny, extremely helpful and encouraging, and he wants all of his students to do well and pass his class. I wish he taught more than just ear training, because he's AMAZING!
I had Paul's class 3 days a week and looked forward to everyone of them. He is super reliable and teaches very clearly. Do a little ET everyday and you will succeed. I plan on taking all 4 ET courses with him.
Favorite ET teacher by far! Keeps every class fun, as well as challenging. He'll always help you outside class, and will make your ear much better!
AMAZING TEACHER! I have him for my Ear Training 1 and I think he is one of the best teacher at Berklee. If you have problem with Ear Training he is the go-to guy. He's also a really cool and funny guy. Definitely gonna take him for ET2
Love, love, love this guy. Amazing teacher.
Amazing professor, explains everything in a very clear way. Also always willing to help you. He isn't an easy professor because he wants you to be prepared for the next level. Very fair, if you work hard you will get the grade you want.
Paul is amazing, he is incredibly funny and clear in the topics he's explaining, I would definitely encourage people to take his class specially if you are new to sight-reading.
not enough space, so let me break it down: 1) his class is ridiculously hard. 2) He takes pride in that. 3) U will improve a lot. 4) U will also be really pissed off a lot, unless you're already great at ET/dictation. 5) Paul is caring, hilarious, a fantastic musician, and passionate about ET. 6)Berklee isn't supposed to be easy. 7) take him.
He is incredibly amazing. I didn't know any theory before coming to Berklee and I learned A LOT in his class. Awesome teacher, take him!
Paul is literally the best teacher I've had. He's hilarious and keeps class fun with his weird stories, but also manages to teach everything you need to be successful and more. I'm taking him for the rest of my ear training classes at Berklee!
Took Ear Training 4 with him in Fall 2012. Amazing vocal percussionist. His class is very challenging, but will make you have better aural skill. Whereas other professors stop at certain point, Paul gives you extra materials which help you immensely in Advanced Rhythms, Atonal Music, etc. Not to mention, his class is a pure joy to attend. Take him!
Had him for Ear Training 4. I'm bad at Ear Training, so I don't know why people say his class is so difficult - if you prepare, it's impossible to not get an A. I came out of ET 3 with a C, and got a lot better with Paul. Dude kills it on piano, keeps class interesting, and will push you to get better. Great sense of humor. Take him, learn more.
BEST TEACHER EVER! I've already decided I'm taking him for every semester possible, his class is a joy and it's impossible to leave his class without having laughed at least once! He's absolutely sucked into the music, total pro! Shows genuine love for what he does and for his students. Gets excited when you progress. How cute is that? The best!
He's super funny and nice but he is extremely tough. Be prepared to work in his class. You will learn a lot though. He's worth it if you work hard and do well. Gives a lot of help during office hours. Make sure to go to them.
He is amazing! Take him if you want your ears trained to the extreme!
Best Ear Training teacher at Berklee by far.
Paul Stiller has been my favorite teacher of all time. If you're a student who is looking to really learn something at Berklee, take with him. He is hands down one of the most talented faculty members here and his jokes aren't bad either. His class is entertaining, challenging, and hilarious! HIGHLY recommend!
I've had Paul for ET 2, 3 & 4. Let me just join the choir of praise here and say that Paul is absolutely the BEST! His classes were hard, but now I can transcribe things, sight read, and conduct absolutely anything! And he's the funniest, most stand-up, supportive guy you'll ever meet at Berklee. Take him for every class humanly possible!!!
I've had Paul for ET1-4. He is hands down THE best teacher at Berklee. He's not easy, but I'm a better person and musician because of him. He is very passionate about his students and job - and he's hilarious. He is ALWAYS willing to help and wants more than anything to see progress from his students. I wish every teacher was like him!
Paul is hilarious, caring, inspirational, fun!! I would recommend any class with him! Just one thing: DO NOT BE LATE !!! he hates that!
Paul is definitely one of the best teachers ive ever had. He is so funny and jokes around a lot but at the same time he's so good at what he does. Definitely DEFINITELY take him for ear training because you'll learn a lot and you'll love him I swear. Great dude and a great teacher.
Paul is the best teacher I have ever had. His classes are hilarious, you will not stop laughing. He is a very fair grader and extremely clear on instructions. If you need help outside of class he is always there and super into what he is doing. He gives homework like every normal teacher should. TAKE HIM, will be the best class you will ever be in.
Do your work, I worked at a jelly bean factory for 3 years, and its worth doing the work
Had Paul for my first ET class - absolutely adore this man! He made every class fun and made you want to participate which is a feat for someone like me. Hes also easily accessible outside of class via email and office hours. If you want to get a good base in ET and enjoy it, take his class!! You wont regret it!!
Paul is honestly one of the best ET teachers in Berklee. Makes the class really fun and breaks down concepts into simpler terms so that it is easier to understand and learn. His biggest pet peeves are students coming in late and not handing in homework. But do them and you'll do well.
Absolutely recommend you take this guy. Loves his job and loves music. Not only is he super knowledgeable but is also a great musician too. He can really relate to being a college kid at Berklee and goes over concepts clearly and at a good pace. Made ear training an enjoyable experience even when sometimes it can't be. Incredibly funny too.
I'm currently taking ET2 with Paul, and he's my favourite teacher so far! I was originally placed in ET1, and ended up switching into Paul's class a few weeks in, and he went out of his way to make sure I was in the right place and I felt comfortable. He genuinely cares about his students education, and he's hilarious. Best ET prof hands down.
Paul is the BEST TEACHER I've had a Berklee. He is absolutely hilarious and a great teacher as well. He makes Ear Training not suck. 11/10 Recommend.
DO NOT take Paul Stiller if you have a disability, especially if you have accommodations. He is not accommodating. He refused to give me accommodations he approved earlier then acted like he was doing me a huge favor when he gave me any leniency. I think he doesn't believe accommodations or disabilities are real, especially mental health ones.
Paul is amazing! strongly recommended
The best teacher at Berklee, absolutely no doubt in my mind! I was luckily placed into Paul's Ear Training 1 my first semester, and I looked forward to going to that class 3 days a week EVERY week. I have taken him all through Ear Training, and am going into ET 4 with him now. Couldn't recommend him more. Funny, clear, and an Ear Training expert!
Paul is great as long as you show up to class and seem to be putting in effort. He HATES when his students are irresponsible and even though he is funny and nice most of the time, he will call out the class if the attendance is weak. Make sure you are organized about showing up to performance tests and turning in "take home" dictation quiz
Paul has been an absolutely amazing teacher throughout my two semesters with him. I began struggling mentally and in school a bit more these past few weeks and Paul reached out to me to make sure I was doing ok and let me know that if I needed ANYTHING he would be just an email or Zoom call away. He is kind, funny, and pushes you in a positive way.
Paul really is a great teacher, I would take his class again. He understands what it takes to do well and has many ways to help you make sense of the mess that is ear training. He gives me a strong dad vibe and which is comforting but also you dont want to piss him off or rub him the wrong way cause it could get a little tense, otherwise he's great
Big funny guy. you'll have to work but he's reasonable and gives good feed back
Paul is an incredible professor. I have taken him since my first semester at Berklee, and he truly builds a foundation from the ground up in ear training. He cares about each one of his students and is always accessible out of class. What he asks of his students is very clear and organized (even in the virtual format). 10/10 would recommend.
As an entering student into a higher level ET class, I was expecting some kind of crazy ear training bootcamp thing- but Paul is super chill, and although quizzes are weekly, we are very well prepared, moving at a fast, but reasonable pace. Outside of class, hes a really interesting guy, and has tips about pretty much anything you need. 10/10
Paul is a really kind ET Teacher but you really gotta work hard if you want to do well in his class. He does this beatboxing thing while conducting and it's honestly super fun! He is also extremely approachable outside of class.
Paul is an amazing teacher and he clearly loves what he does. I will say he is a strict teacher, but when it comes to Ear Training I feel like I needed that discipline to succeed. He is extrememly approachable and is overal just a great person.
He's a great teacher. His instructions and feedback are so clear, and you can tell he truly wants all his students to succeed. I've become so much better at Ear Training just in 1 semester of having him, and I'm taking him for ET3 next sem. too. 10/10 recommend.
Paul is absolutely amazing! The best ear training professor on planet Earth! He is available outside of class and often participates in tea parties thrown by his incredible students!
I like the way Paul teaches and explains things as I found it really affective in learning. I came in barely knowing anything about ET but then started to understand it within a short amount of time. He is also a strict teacher in terms of handing in work, practicing, and being on time, which I personally like. He's also quite funny and friendly.
TEA PARTY FOR PAUL!
My number one recommendation to anyone attending Berklee. Funny, he beatboxes when you run through the exercises, and he knows what he's doing. He's very runs the class in an organized manner. He's a stickler about attendance but SO worth it to take the class. He holds office hours if you need help. Genuinely a great human being.
I learned so much from Paul's frickin class it's crazy. He's so good at explaining rhythm in particular. I felt myself become so much more confident and fluent in reading as I went through the course. Wish I could have taken his class again but they all filled up. Amazing teacher.
Literally the best teacher at Berklee. Making ear training enjoyable is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. I had him for Ear Training 2,3,4 and got an A- in all three, I came into Berklee horrible at ear training, and was awful semester one. You will improve, he is incredible.
If you have accommodations DO NOT TAKE HIM! He does not let you have any accommodations and gives you more work. He does not believe in the testing center and makes you re take each test in a separate room AFTER taking it with the class. I have never had a teacher send me rude emails like he does yelling at me because he miss read my prior email.
If I could rate this professor a 0, I would. If you have any need for accommodations, avoid this professor at all costs. The only positive that came from his class, was that he beatboxes. Regardless, he was incredibly unhelpful for me, a student with accommodations. He was VERY rude, YELLED at me, and sent very unprofessional and rude emails. RUN!!
Never had a teacher get mad at me for emailing them with questions about an assignment until now. Once spent a whole period getting angry at our whole class for collectively getting something wrong on a project and then not telling us how to correct it and saying to just do it right. Kind of funny, but created an extremely stressful environment tbh
Paul is a great professor, but you have to work really hard. He's very strict about attendance and being in class in time. We had so many tests that it was frustrating sometimes. However, my main goal was to improve in ET, and I improved a lot. Even though it was very tough, I'm very grateful to Paul and will definitely take his class again.
Paul is very talented but knowledgable. I wasn't great with ET but he knew and we worked on it. He does care about helping out his students. Expect to prepare a rhythm and recite in class! He is strict with attendance & showing up early for quiz times and classes. Dictation is focused on heavily in class but the melodic training is too rushed.
Dude is a legend.
I took this professor soph. And Jun. a couple years ago 4 et 3 and et4 and by far one of the kindest professors I know! He cares deeply about his students but please make sure to study and ask loads of questions! AND PLEASE DON'T MISS CLASS!! He really cares about y'all and wants y'all to learn! Overall amazing teacher, really wants you to do good!
If you are really looking to learn ear training, TAKE PAUL! He provides an ample amount of office hours and is the most organized teacher I have ever worked with. He gives you a schedule before every quiz that explains what you will be working on each class and expectations. He is also super entertaining and keeps the class engaged. Also beat boxes
Words cannot describe how grateful I am for professor Paul. I own him my improvements. Always there to help, he is an amazing person and teacher. If you really want to learn and you are not here just to pass, take professor Stiller. Success guaranteed.
Ear training with Paul is not for the weak. If you want to actually be challenged and truly improve your ear training, I would recommend Paul. He is funny, caring, and truly spends time with you to help improve your ear training skills. But his classes require a lot of practice to help you get better.
Paul is a very engaging and friendly professor, who explains concepts well and has a good sense of humour. Just don't be late or have your phone out too much!
Professor Stiller makes a tough subject enjoyable. Strict but fair, his teaching style really helps improve ear training skills. Engaging lectures, hands-on practice, and helpful study tools like unstuck study make this class a challenge but worthwhile.
Very engaging fellow, doesn't take himself too seriously and spontaneously breaks out into beatboxing. Enjoyed his classes.
Paul is one of the best teachers I've had at Berklee. Don't take him if you aren't ready to put the work in; if you are, he will challenge you and help you grow. He offers much support if you're struggling and makes ear training less daunting. I will be taking him again!
Paul Stiller is a good Ear Training teacher. He gave his students practice through his own website so the students can improve their skills. Paul gave an easy access to ask about the lesson although it's off-class.
Professor Paul Stiller can be a little tough. However, he is the sweetest man alive. He wants you to improve so please for the love of everything good in this world, do your homework and practice the solfège he assigns. Quit embarrassing yourself in class. DON'T BE LATE. Paul is really the GOAT of Berklee. He does not play around with anyone.
You gotta lock in with Paul but it's so worth it. He's amazing at getting you where you need to be by the end of the semester. Paul sticks to the traditional methods of teaching ET leaving little leniency. Was left quite exhausted by the end but glad I went through it. The best professor for ET that I have heard of if you genuinely want to improve.
I love Paul Stiller. Shout out, Paul Stiller. I took ET 4 with him and didn't understand shit until I got to his class. Very patient and fair. If you try in his class, you will succeed. I love Paul Stiller!!!!!
Paul has a nasty attitude and simply is not a nice person. He boasts about failing people and makes the class unnecessarily hard. I have friends taking the same Ear Training with a different teacher and their work load is leaps and bounds easier than what Paul assigns. Would have had an enjoyable semester but for his class.
