All the tests were multiple choice on Scantron, but don't take that like you don't have to study. Majority of test material is in notes so try not to miss a day. He's real fun too.
VERY VERY fun class... loved going everyday. Tests were tough but came right from notes....he's very entertaining.
Very nice class. Moderate study load. And he's cute in a hippy kinda way.
I did not enjoy this class as much as enjoyed his intro to phys class. I generally prefer essay test questions, but he is seriously anal about how he grades his essay questions. Let me just say they're vague questions with precision grading.
If you think you know how to study, just wait till you get to this class. He is actually the nicest professor i have met personally. If you are struggling, he will try his hardest to make sure you succeed. buy a tape recorder..you will need it.
His lecture is very interesting! I find myself cracking up all the time in lecture. He is very helpful if you get confused, but warning: this is a serious study class. But you will learn so much.
Had for cell bio. Very understandable and tests were managable.
A hard class. A good professor. I like his lectures, but I wish he would have been more available outside class outside regular office hours. To be fair, he does do research.
It's a tough class
his lectures rock!!!!
This was a fun class to go to.He is very interesting and often funny.Tests came strait from notes(which there were a lot of). This was a pretty hard class with a lot of info to learn. He knows his stuff though and if not he'll tell you.
Loved it, loved it, loved it! Never miss class, take good notes, study every day, and you've got an A. He's also very helpful in his office after class if you need clearing up on anything.
Killer class. Quite hard and you have to keep up with the notes. BUT Dr stone is very helpful and explains the material very well. Tests are VERY hard but there are quiz points. Has a nice sense of humor
he's too tough, his drawings suck, he has chicken scratch for notes, take him if you like pop quizzes or teachers who grade hard, your hand will hurt trying to keep up w/his notes and don't expect to get help even if he is in his office and he looks like a 50yr old hippie!
Arrogant and unclear.
Interesting class, but and his drawings are awful, and his tests are horrible.
He has temper tantrums; just don't call him the turtle guy, he'll pout and give the worst presentation ever like last year at tribeta. What a joke. A hack! His class is quite rigorous, here's a concept for the inept: study and get an A. There you go!
His test are very hard. The questions come right out of the notes but he doesn't use the questions you would think that he would use. Very hard to understand.
Horrible drawings, tricky tests. If you need help don't expect to get any. Plan to study atleast 8 hours/ day on the weekends, plus the average time during the week (according to him). Pop quizzes all the time, which do not prepare you for the test at all!
He gives notes that cover most important subjects in book and you don't need to read the book. The tests are easy just from notes and not tricky at all. Actually, I don't need to study all the time just one or two days before the test. He explains good and very respectful toward students. Easy to earn points with easy homeworks and attendance.
He is very helpful, his tests are pretty hard but straight from the notes. You dont need a book.He makes everything easy to understand by comparing it to stuff us students can relate to. He makes his lectures funny. His quizzes are just to get you to study and really a reward for coming to class. I really enjoyed his class
I loved Professor Stone. He will help any student at any time if they need it. Very passionate about this material. gives lots of hw to boost your grade. just make sure to go to most of the classes he goes over a lot in one lecture. test are fair if you study. take good notes test from notes, not book.
hes a nice guy, but he needs to clean up his appearance. he isnt very presentable.
Seriously, so this guy knows his stuff. however, he is a completely strange man. He somehow gets all these dumb 19 year old wanna be doctors to think that he is a genius and that is opinion of them actually matters. I would take him he teaches pretty well, just he is kinda a hippie and it gets old.
He is seriouly losing it. I was recommended to take his class above all else. I studied and still could not do well. He lectures over things for 5 min and then has 10 test questions over it. Completely unpredictable and somewhat flaky.
This professor is not only clear in his teaching, but clear in his testing. If you memorize all the notes, you will get A's on the exam. Anything less than this and you will not do that well. Don't really need the book, look at someone else's for the one thing he assigns as reading. Gives 100 points worth of easy homework.
I Loved this class. He is a great teacher, explains things well in the lecture. Gives pop quizes but they are straight from the notes and not hard if you study. Difficult tests, but if you go to class and study you will get a good grade. You will learn a lot if you take this class
a good person and an even better teacher
Great teacher! Very clear. Go to class every day, take good notes, and study only those notes. It also helps to write yourself practice questions off the notes. It took about 30 to 60 minutes outside of class to make 20 or 30 questions per lecture, then I only studied those questions. I made 100s on 3 out of 4 tests.
don't miss a class period.. unless you have someone in the class that you can get notes from. Tests are straight from the lecture notes. He's a very smart professor, his tests aren't necessarily hard, just study the notes.
Dr. Stone is an excellent professor, precise, funny ... test come straight from notes,so need to be in class every day, dont even need book really. STUDY EVERY DETAIL IN YOUR NOTES! do that and youll get an A.
Great lecturer but difficult tester. Study hard for the first exam and know everything from his notes AND handouts. He is good at explaining the topic but is very tricky on his exam questions.
Awesome professor. Take good notes and study everthing in them and you will do awesome. all multiple choice answers on tests except the stuff in the back, and those are SHORT answers from your notes/worksheets. Awesome guy!
This guy can teach & entertain at same time- low tech, low key, a sense of humor & reasonable tests. Two thumbs up!
He is realy a nice person and loving. He cares a lot for his students. You need to attend and take good notes. He will write some stuff, but you have to copy his words which is seriouse problem. You can tape, but your whole semester is spending with him, your recorder, and rewritting which looks like you have 12 credit hrs. Y can make A, not hard.
hands down the greatest professor i have ever had!!! he has pop quizes over the previous lectures which forces you to study your notes every night... but come test time there is NO need to cram because you have kept up with everything!! the funniest stories and examples, the most laid back personality, incredibly intelligent!! TAKE HIM!!
He is a great professor. Just copy notes and come to class because everything is straight from notes. If you have trouble after first test go to him and he gives great advise...I made a D on the first two test and pasted with a B..
He was a very hard taecher. His tests were killer and rarely made sense. The final is comprehensive so good luck. Very knowlegeable, but a lot of work. DEF TAKE DR. DEEN, MUCH EASIER!
GREAT TEACHER! very funny, explains well, grades difficult on labs, told us everything we needed to know for lab practical. He LOVES turtles and doesn't like cell phones (I suggest not texting in class). TAKE HIM!!!
Awesome teacher. class attendance not mandatory but recommended as all tests come from notes and handouts. This is a class you will have to study for, I studied an made an A. Book is used during the first chapter only so borrow one.
Dr. Stone is a wonderful professor, and is always willing to help. All the tests and quizzes are straight from the notes, so memorize everything. I did that and made an A. Take him!!
Paul Stone is an amazing teacher. He stops during his lecture to make sure the class is following allong okay. This was an easy class for me. I love his hippie carefree attitude. I recommend him!
Born to teach
the only good thing about this professor is that u don't use the textbook. just studying notes. his tests are a pain in the **** u think that u r really prepared but u won't get the grade that u want i mean u get a very low grade like a D
His tests will kill you. Sure, there are little weekly assignments that will "help" your grade, but you're STILL doomed! The only one's who did DECENT in the class are the ones who have had all the other sciences. His style is cool, and he cracks some good jokes, but other than that...it's not worth it.
Dr.Stone AWESOME!! His class is not at all easy and you have to study in order to do good, but he is a smart guy and always always always willing to help. He is so laid back and open that you can't help but to indulge him. Funny and weird; he wears flip flops to class everyday. Gotta love the guy!!
HORRIBLE TEACHER He stands at the front of class writes on the board and talks the entire hour every day His tests are strictly off the notes he give so you must take good notes His tests will kill you no matter how hard you study because you will have roughly 25-30 pages of notes No study guides are given so you must know your notes front to back
Tests are VERY, VERY difficult and worded in a way that is confusing. I have learned tons in the class, but that knowledge doesn't seem to translate to the tests. He is a good teacher & pretty quirky, but doesn't seem to care about helping you pass the class - there are no study guides or even test reviews. From what I hear, Deen is easier...
Awesome teacher. I dont know what you guys are talking about. Tests were easy you just need to review your notes and you dont need a textbook. He will make anything interesting...
Stone is good teacher but your going to have to work for your A, it is not a blow off class. His test are hard and strictly over notes from class, but if you read over them once a day you will be good for his test. You will not need your book at all. He gives extra credit too. I studied hard and made an A.
Some of the comments are ridiculous really. Professor Stone is a superior professor in every way. His lectures are interesting and informative and while his tests aren't easy, just study and show up. He cares if he knows that you care. He gives thought provoking but easy extra credit. Will take him for all BIO classes. Very helpful if you seek it.
This man is the coolest Bio professor I have EVER met! If you need to take a bio class He is the professor you would need to get! He makes the class intresting. Test come directly from his lectures so its important to attended class. The class is early... but it is worth it. Test are straight forward. Great professor!
Dr. Stone was a great teacher, did not use the textbook at all! Coming to class is mandatory as all the tests come directly from the notes, I would take him again for any Biology class I need to take. If you make an effort he will reward that as well.
His lectures are very clear if you want to work you will do good
Great teacher. Very straightforward. Study the notes hard!
BEST science prof I've ever had. He's not for people that don't want to work, but if you actually want to learn from an interesting professor Dr. Stone is for you. The tests are directly from the notes, so show up to class and study the notes. He really is the most amazing science professor at UCO!
Dr. Stone is really awesome! Everybody says that he is hard but that is just because they don't take good notes or don't study them. What is in the notes is in the test. Pretty simple. Hilarious too!!!
Dr. Stone is great. All he does is lecture and you write down what he says. He keeps his lectures interesting and funny so it's easy to pay attention. The tests are straight from the notes so take good notes. He gives extra points for doing little assignments. Never uses the book. I learned a lot in this class.
Had him for both Human Phys and Mammalian Phys. Love him! Great Prof!
I had to take my class for my major. He makes his lectures pretty interesting and gives you alot of extra points for the class. However his test are EXTREMELY hard. The questions are straight from the notes but you MUST study every TINY detail don't leave anything out. I wouldn't recommend taking him!
Took Professor Stone twice and he's a legit professor. His notes are pretty straight forward, but he doesn't believe into buying the book. So EVERYTHING for tests is on the notes. Pay attention, go to class, and take detailed notes. Read notes before every class. TESTS ARE HARD
Dr Stone is exremely difficult. Im a straight A student and wrote down everything he said and studied very hard. I couldnt understand where he got his test questions from and ended up with my first C. Would NOT recommend him for human phys. He's a very nice person though.
One of the best prof. at uco. Very clear presentation of materials. Definitely recommend taking him for human phys. Take notes and study concept and you will get an A.
Tip1:record his lectures. Tip2:Don't blow off studying in this class. Tip3:Except the worst. Tip4:His exams are insanely difficult(If you feel like you made an A you'll get a B). Tip5:Don't take this class with Anatomy. Tip6:Come to class prepared. Tip7:Final is COMPREHENSIVE. Tip8:If you're a Straight A student, expect to no longer be. Tip9: RUN!
Dr. Stone is very intelligent, do not underestimate him. I had him for Bio I and Human Physiology and I believe he is the one of the best at UCO. Anyone who says his class is hard should reconsider their major. If you have questions, ask! He is so helpful, and incredibly welcoming in his office. His tests are strictly what he talks about. STUDY!
Dr. Stone is a wonderful professor, and his Environmental Biology is the most interesting class I've taken so far.
Dr. Stone is great! He is very invested and understanding and wants you to succeed. READ THE BOOK and be invested in the class. If he sees you care he'll have more sympathy for you when you need it. He's very helpful and super laid back so don't be afraid to ask for help. Good luck!
Awesome professor! Human Phys is a difficult class, but an A is not impossible, just study. All of his tests came straight from his lectures, so record them in case you miss something and don't miss class. The first test is the worst, so don't back out! It gets easier as the semester goes on. Highly recommend Mr. Stone.
I took Paul's first semester of enviromental Bio and learned soo much. He only had one test which was a midterm and it was super hard. The class does take a lot of effort BUT he is an incredible teacher. Go to office hours and ask him questions. He is tough but he's a great guy
Dr. Stone is a great professor. Human Physio students- you really have no choose but to take him. Biggest recommendation- record the lecture and edit your in class notes immediately, everyday. Write everything down and review often. Rewrite the notes multiple times and DONT TAKE HIM FOR LAB. Don't wait until the last minute to study-you will fail
This was my favorite class of the semester. It was very difficult, but I learned so much! I thoroughly enjoyed it and was very sad when it was over! I definitely got my dollars worth.
I was a biology major and passionate about biology until I came across Paul. You can tell he isn't really into biology, all he cares about are geckos. In the end, I dropped the class because it wasn't even worth dropping my GPA with this class. FIND SOMEONE WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT YOU PASSING THE CLASS, STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!!!!
This class what hard but I expected it to be. Dr. Stone tries to help you as much as he can. Go to class, take good notes, make sure you go over your notes as much as possible outside of class and you should be fine. Dr. Stone is very easy going and willing to answer any questions you have!
Dr. Stone is an amazing professor. I'm glad that I took his class because I learned so much about physiology. The material on the tests comes from his lecture. I would take good notes! It's memorization for most of it and you're only expected to know what he writes down. So don't try to over think it. I loved this class and I recommend it to anyone
Dr. Stone warned us over and over to study for the quizzes and to be really prepared for the test, but being a straight A student, I didn't listen. I got a C on the first test. Bottom line : LISTEN TO HIS WARNINGS!!!! You will do fine if you take good notes. I got A's on all the other exams. Any quiz past the 10th is bonus points!
LISTEN TO HIS WARNINGS!!!! You will do fine if you take good notes AND STUDY BEFORE EACH CLASS. I didn't listen and got a C on the first test, so I took his advice and I got A's on all the other exams. Also, any quiz past the 10th is bonus points!
Took Stone for Bio 1 for Majors. I slacked off a bit on he homework at the beginning of the semester, which bit me at the end. 4 exams and a final. He NEVER uses the textbook. It's good to have if you miss class, though he sometimes covers material outside of it. Expects you to take good notes, and honestly, your notes are the only way you can pass
Every class is a lecture; don't miss them. Literally read over your notes everyday, and you'll do fine. Sometimes he's a little confusing in class, but if you take time on your own to review what you have, it'll make sense. Quizzes almost every class over the lecture from last class, and they're a little tough. The 4 main tests matter most.
I took this course along with his human physiology class. Both courses were fun but difficult. Human physiolgy was much easier, but more time consuming because of the lab's and the quizzes. Very interesting stuff. Great professor
I took Dr. Stone for Biology I for Majors and he is a great teacher. He explains the material very well and gives you examples when trying to explain new concepts. Your note taking is what will make you or break you in this class so, make sure you take good notes! Show up to class he likes to tell alot of fun stories that end up being on the test.
I loved Professor Stone! The tests were a little difficult, but all of the answers are in the notes. So honestly, if you sit down and really study, you can do well on the tests. He also has you do about 10 assignments, all of which are easy and on d2l. Didnt use textbook. He gave a few extra credit oppurtunites as well.
Dr. Stone is the Brodie- hands down the most laid-back teacher (and person) I've ever had. However, don't take that to mean he's easy- because bio 1 for majors is a ton of material by its nature. He is very knowledgable and he won't sugar-coat your performance, so just take thorough notes is class. Still to this day one of my favorite lecturers.
I recorded every lecture and took photos. He goes kind of fast, so I would suggest you to do the same just in case you don't follow something or a little slow that day. Take 30 minutes to an hour before class to study for pop quizzes. I usually made a 75-100. Plus it helps with going over the material a second time when the exams come around.
What an amazing lecturer! Dr. Stone tells it like it is. I appreciate how he tells the information like a story and really gives an idea of how all the information connects. The best way to do well in this class is to take thourough detailed notes and actually study them before the quizzes and tests. You'll learn a lot in this class.
Paul is a great teacher. No textbook is used, all of the material that is on tests comes straight from the lecture. Pop quizzes are frequent over stuff covered in the previous class. Cumulative final.
I did Human Physiology. Tests are straight out of his lectures. He only writes his notes on the board. Has pop quizzes (4 questions). Entertaining. Tests are multiple choice (55 questions). Handwriting is eh but he knows it & always asks if anyone can read it; many students will say no, and he'll tell you what it is LOL. Sometimes barefooted.
I took Dr. Stone this semester. Hes an amazing teacher, and his illustrations that he draws are super helpful. I just took anatomy and physiology together, and ended up focusing more on Anatomy than Physiology. He was super thorough, and great at relaying the necessary info
Amazing course. No text book and no slides. Great professor. Tell interesting personal stories related to the course material. Keeps you interested. Challenging at times, but just pay attention and take good notes.
Stone is a really cool, easy going professor. I liked his class, but he doesnt go by the book or use any powerpoints. He lectures off his own notes, which is challenging because you have to take good notes to get a good grade and study a lot. If youre good a bio then i would recommend him but if youre not maybe go with someone else.
He is the sweetest and kindest professor ever. However, if you're not a good note taker this might not be for you. The tests come directly from the notes, no book needed at all. He really cares for his students!
BY FAR THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE TAKEN AT UCO! His lectures are incredible and he tries his best to make class interesting and fun! Hes super reasonable and offers tons of extra credit! He literally wants you to succeed as much as you do! All the test and quiz information come from his lectures, so dont miss class! TAKE GOOD NOTES!
Professor Stone is easily one of the coolest professors you could ever get. A little on the older side and super down to earth. If you are interested in turtles/snakes at all then you should definitely take him. Long lectures and tested over a lot of information so definitely need some good study habits. Really understanding as well.
Stone cares a lot about biology, and it shows in his lectures. You can tell he has spent a lot of time optimizing his powerpoints, which is his sole means of teaching. Usually, I would take issue with this, but his lectures are interesting and engaging. Show up to class every day and you will be fine for (Enviro. Bio. at least).
The exams and assignments were super easy! Trust me, if you wanna take his class, you definitely should. At first, I had no interest in environmental biology and I didn't even know what it meant but when I started going to class, it was actually interesting and easy to understand because Stone made it that way. He's super chill and one of my faves.
Dr Stone is awesome
Super cool guy. He definitely actually cares about his subject. He breaks everything down as much as possible so you can understand what is going on. Just make sure to go to class and take notes.
Paul Stone was the best professor I have had so far. I absolutely loved his Enviro Biology class and he inspired me with all his stories in his lectures. I loved all his lectures because he kept them interesting and he was a very nice professor that cared for his students. His tests aren't difficult and he inspired me to minor in sustainability.
Great guy. Had him for Human Physiology Lab, lots of group work. Show up, study, and do the work.
I liked the class as a whole. I learned a lot about things that I care about. He is a very tough grader. He took 10 points off for going a minute over time with presentation, which I think is harsh. The study material is his slides which have very little information on them. I made it really hard to study for his test.
Great teacher. Engaging and passionate. Lots of presentations but you learn so much and its always a very interesting topic. Lectures a lot but they are about our environment so it really puts the world into perspective. 4 exams, many presentations, lecture heavy, and few homework assignments: I liked that a lot, take it as you will.
Not for everyone but definitely a good teacher in his own way.
Professor Stone's Enviro Bio class is engaging and informative. The lectures are presentation-heavy but worthwhile, and he really brings the material to life. Definitely take advantage of unstuck ai and other study tools - they'll help you ace the tests.
Very easy class! Gives a lot of info in his lectures and is generally chill. A few small assignments, tests, and presentations but nothing too difficult. Get ready to hear about his turtles every so often.
