Because of his own struggles with math it is obvious that he has spent alot of time deisigning a super-thorough, super-easy, teaching method. The pace he teaches at is slow and steady. Very approachable for extra help. With all due respect I call him, "The Mr. Rogers of mathmatics". Citrus scored
He was really easy and understanding. If you need some help in math, he's the guy for you!
He takes the mystery out of math. Everyone in my class with different problems and attitudes towards math have done extremely well. No one fails his class if they comply. He creates the strong lower foundation needed to succeed at upper division math.
Mr. Swatzel is awesome. He is so thorough giving detailed instructions and lectures. I hate math, but he made it easy to go to class because I knew I would understand what he was teaching!
The homework is a lot but all you have to do is keep up with it and your okay. He is pretty cool about things like turning in homework late, he says to write "LATE" on it, but don't do that, just turn it in with the rest of the HW being handed in. He won't even know. He's a pretty cool guy overal
he is a very nice teacher, I had to drop his class unfortunately through no fault of his own. I have another teacher now, there is a big difference one of the nicest teachers in the school. I defenitely recomend, I will take him for 130.
Great Teacher!! Very Clear and patient! But he is NOT HOT!!!!! He Looks like Tom Green. I will absolutely take him next semester!
He is very helpful!!! He is extremely patient and willing to teach. He is one the best Instructors at Citrus.
This professor is one of the best professors at Citrus seriously I have taken 130, 3 times at Mt Sac and either withdrew or got dropped and before this class I took it 3 times here at citrus and either withdrew or got dropped and the main reason was because the professors didnt care about their students Paul Swatzel is the ideal math teacher.
Mr. Swatzel is the type of math instructor that we should all be blessed with. I took his course during the summer and was getting quite discouraged by the amount that we needed to learn in such a short time. Fortunately Mr. Swatzel was willing to help during breaks and even after class. Highly Recommended.
Mr. Swatzel is THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!! He really takes his time and explains it. I took him this summer and I passed with a B. I have always struggled in math but unlike other teachers he explains it to help you really understand it . I totally recommend him. He is the Best.
great teacher!! He explains it so even a complete idiot would get! He makes math easy! He does sort of look like tom green, but it thought he was an excellent teacher! He helps in everyway possible to make sure you understand it. I recommend him for math and im sure I will take him again for other math courses.
great teacher cant go wrong with him you will pass and if you try hell give u a B makes math fun and so easy
MR. SWATZEL IS TRULY, THE BEST MATH INSTRUCTOR I'VE EVER HAD. MATH HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY MOST DIFFICULT SUBJECT, BUT MR. SWATZEL MAKES THINGS EXTREMELY CLEAR. HE IS VERY PATIENT AND KIND, NOT TO MENTION, COMPLETELY ADORABLE! I WOULD TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM, ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO DON'T QUITE GET MATH AS QUICKLY AS OTHERS. MR. SWATZEL YOUR THE BEST!!
Mr. Swatzel was the BEST teacher I have had at Cirtus!!! He was always patient and willing to go over work if we had any trouble and he made the class interesting. I am definitely going to take another math class from him. I highly recommend him!!!
He is very willing to help out his students. If he does not know an answer he you look it up and give you the better answer he can the next day.
Great teacher. Very friendly and helpful. Goes over the material very well. Doesnt grade hard at all. One of the best teachers at Citrus.
Very Wonderful teacher. I would say he is one of the best Math Teachers. He is very Helpful, and not Hrad at all. Guarantee an A
a lil slow not a class for fast learners hes really nice and kind hearted.
the best math teacher I know!!! he is so understanding and he is so cool!! I recommend him to everyone and please I hate math, but he really taught me to like it.Trust Me!!
i took him for 129 and 150, he is not as easy as people make him out to be. but he is not such a hard grader and i love the fact that he gives you partial credit, i got a C in 129 and a D in 150 but it was not his fault, by the way he is cute if you can get pass the dorky haircut and glasses he has a cute smile too!
this teacher is really nice and easy
If you put in some effort you will do good in the class. Easy to understand and very helpful if you need help. Recommend taking him if you want to get a good grade.
Very good teacher. I am a very slow learner, and he takes the time to help you out. His assignments and tests are easy as well. Wonderful guy!
i love swatzel he is super nice and has this weird cuteness to him. Homework is easy and is very helpful. Tests are easy and quizzes are easy. He is a great teacher :)
If you just want to up your GPA or this course is your major requirement or something else, just take him and you'll know what I mean. But.....You won't learn anything.
By far the best math instructor I've ever had. I'm taking Swan this semester only because I couldn't fit the time for Swatzel in 150. He's extremely clear in teaching it, very helpful. If you do the work and show up, you can't help but get an 'A'. The people who didn't get 'A's were ppl who didn't do the hmwk/pay attention in class.
He is a great teacher. Caring and not willing to let you get away from the problem without understanding it. Algebra is very hard without a good teacher.
He's so nice! He has a dorky humor. Class can get boring but you can do all your homework during that time. I didn't really understand the material but I got an A in the course.
This teacher is so easy. And hes kind of cute in a dorky way. The way he explains stuff helps alot. Quizzes, tests, and homework are super easy. Show up to class all ready, and u cant help but get an A and understand algebra.
was a great teacher. yeah you have to do homework but he doesnt always collect it. great teaching methods too. total dork but funny.
One of my favorite teachers at Citrus. I totally recommend him.Very helpful and understanding. Tests are are not difficult. He is super nice!
GREAT TEACHER! I am still taking him, and he is very nice and actually helps me understand math.
he is a super nice teacher, and explains very well. take him and you won't regret it.clear speaker too!
SUPER NICE AND EASY.... REALLY CARES ABOUT THE STUDENTS AND WONT GIVE UP UNTIL YOU'VE LEARNED IT. TEST ARE NOT HARD. PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING HE'S REVIEWED IN CLASS, NO SURPRISES. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM. HE'S ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I'VE HAD SO FAR THAT IS SO COMPASSIONATE TOWARDS HIS STUDENT. HE'S ALSO DORKY AND SUCH A CUTIE HEHE
I've sucked at math my entire life. I finished his class with a high A. I WISH MORE TEACHERS WERE LIKE HIM. He's VERY helpful. Always willing to stay after and help and answer ALL questions. Because he struggled with math when he was younger he makes it easier for you to understand. HE'S AMAAAAAZING!!! and he reminds me of Ross from friends haha!
he was one of the greatest teachers ive had at citrus go to class and the rest is done for you he even drops your lowest homework and test score
He was a good professor. takes away your lowest test score. he accepts late work. funny guy! i'd take him again if i could!
Professor Swatzel is really nice. I love his teaching methods and the way he makes you understand the sections. I advise anyone to take him for math and I know for a fact that many other students adore him and can't wait to take him for another math class.
Great professor! He's really nice and helpful. His lectures are pretty clear and the homework assignments aren't that bad. He drops the lowest test score, which is extremely helpful! You won't regret taking his class (:
150 over winter with this teacher was horrible. he is nice but doesnt know what hes doing. 50 percent of the class failed. do not take him for a short semester. he does not take the time to make sure that the whole class understands the material
this teacher needs to stick with math 17 cause in 150 he doesnt know anything. he looks at u with a blank face. he can never answer your questions and homework and and study guides are nothing like the tests or exams. he is wayyyy over rated. i have no respect for him.
He is a great teacher and a very nice guy
Prof. Swatzel is a great teacher. He is super helpful and always tries to make sure everybody understands him. I am not that great in math but I got a high B because he is just that good. I even took him for the short winter semester.
I took this class in the winter and I had never taken a stats course in my life, but the class is very easy. Prof Swatzel is a good teacher and he makes sure everyone understands. The class can get boring at times but it's worth it. He lets us out early almost every day. I got an A in the class and got a free high tech calculator out of it!
Mr. Swatzel is an exemplary professor. He should have a doctorate. He knows what he is doing and he is very kind. He will make you learn Calculus even if it is not your thing. Take him if you want to understand Calculus. I learned much more from him than with my high school Calculus teacher.
The best professor in teaching. Very helpful, makes problems understand-able. I was very lucky to find him since I was never really good in Math. Today, Math is one of my best subjects. He is fair to all, I highly recommend to everyone who is starting in basic Math.
He is the best math teacher that I ever have!!He is super easy.you do not have to turn in the homework. The quiz is exactly like the HW, and the test is familiar!! Highly recommend!!!
i can say it. he is super duper easy and best teacher ever.
This guy is easy if you are a genious! Grade is all based on tests and quizzes. No extra credit, no formula sheets, no graph calculator! Don't recommend unless you are self motivated.
I have to say Professor Swatzel is by far the best Math Professor at Citrus. For those negative comments posted of him, those are the people whom expect to get A's for doing nothing. I would highly recommend, he's not hard if your willing to put effort. Very dedicated!
I like professor Swatzel. I think he is a good teacher. My only complaint about the class is that he had this homework program online that I didn't care for. But overall good teacher so I'll be taking him again.
Took his online class. What a mistake. Ive never worked so hard for mediocre grades. HW is a waste of time, and misleads you into thinking you will do well on exams. At least 25% of questions on exams, were NEVER covered in HW. If you have no job, or flexible hours, then you can get help during his office hours, otherwise, you are left to die.
teaher has somewhat of a monotone voice and is pretty dull. easy class and you do not need to attend it except for the first couple classes. none of the tests are multiple choice from what i can remember. the hmwk is all online and is a joke, the answers are given if you input the wrong answer.
Awesome!!!!!! Absolutely my favorite professor at Citrus!!!
Amazing professor, very easy to pass his class as long as you pay attention and complete his assignments. (:
Good teacher, I wouldn't say the best for a Calc class. He'd be better in a lower level math. His teaching is too slow for most part. Homework is assigned but not turned in, the quizzes consist of HW questions, and tests are challenging but not difficult if you don't slack off on the HW. He always reminds you to come to his office hrs for help
this professor makes attendance mandatory the first few weeks. the hwk is online, its takes hours to complete, his notes are useless, he gets stuck on his own questions, test are very hard, final is cummilitative, dont take him, its boring hard, torture, you will have to learn on your own, hsk doesnt help alot, dont take this class,!!
cool guy but completely clueless on when he does problems on the board. most off the time he does them wrong and somebody has to correct him. He shouldn't be teaching a math 190 class he should just stick to the lower level math. he once took 25 minutes to complete one integreation problem and still couldnt do it so he used his teacher work book
Has difficulty explaining Calculus concepts. Needs to remain in lower level math classes. He is a nice guy - but is really boring and clueless about how to instruct calculus.
P Swatzel is a nice guy, more than fair. Do your homework and the tests should be simple enough. I did pretty poorly in his DE Class, but 100% my fault(didn't study, procrastinated, did homework at 12am usually..). The funny part about this site is that the hotness rating/appearance completely invalidates all of the reviews... except mine. Mikey F
Had Swatzel for Differential Equations a couple years ago. Very challenging class. Good instructor, but I did not like computer program IDE he made us use for lab. Always willing to help. wont allow graphing calculators though :(
I took him for math 017 and 020. I like it the class. He is willing to help you if you are willing to learn over all good teacher.
I had Swatzel for Calc this semester and he was very helpful. He does not collect homework which makes it difficult to stay motivated. Don't show up at his office having not attempted the problem. He will tell you to go try it first. If you are willing to try he is more than willing to help.
Mr. Swatzel is a really cool teacher, and truly knows what he teaches. Overall, his class was pretty easy for me, and I would seriously recommend him to anyone who's thinking about taking him.
I have taken his other math courses several times and that's because he is great at teaching. Some Professors teach at a fast pace, while he teaches at a pace were you can actually learn. He is fair and goes the extra mile to help you. I would definitely recommend & take him again!
He is a great professor. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you're struggling; he will try to answer it. The one thing I didn't like about the class is the fact that homework is online.
Awesome teacher with great explanation skills. You will take a ton of notes, or at least u should;)
willing to help if you need it. Uses math in every converation & strives to have the whole class understand the new material
Math is very difficult for me, but Swatzel's approach to teaching is excellent. He will explain everything to you as if your were in kindergarden. I didn't get the grade I wanted, but I have learned to understand math with more clarity. I will be taking his classes until I'm done with my math units. I recomend his class for any type of student!
Swatzel is a great professor. He has this "thing" where he makes you understand the math and he makes it look much easier than the book. I like his teaching style because he makes you feel comfortable enough to want to participate in class. I have taken him for other math classes as well, and recommend him to all who needs a good math start!
He's a great professor. Very helpful and encourages his students to go to his office hours with questions. He goes over the homework every day before going in to lecture. Internet and computer access are required for his class. His homework is all through my math lab. If there's particular problems you're stuck on you can email him directly and he'll go over the problem the following class. Amazing professor. Definitely taking him for the rest of my math classes at citrus.
Professor Swatzel is the perfect professor for students who struggle with Math. He takes his time and is willing to explain again if you do not understand. He encourages students to go to his office if they need help. I had Professor Swatzel for Math 29 30 & 150. Disappointed that he is not teaching Stats in class in the fall only online :(
Mr. Swatzel is awesome. I took him for MATH 30 and 150. I've always done poorly in math, BUT I got straight A's in his classes. I actually understand math now! Homework is online; the website is very helpful. Don't buy the book ahead of time. He will tell you what to buy. 4 tests and 1 final. He tells you what to study. He's available to help you!
Has beginning of class start with answering questions to homework problems and gives clear lectures open to questions.
I took Mr Swatzel for Intermediate Algebra and you couldn't ask for a better math teacher.
His email response can very slow, if at all. He provides No lectures. I am good at math and sought help for this class. He sets deadlines, (de)activates lessons, done. Thetext: Online "bundle" gouges on price, yet is out of date (80's lecture videos??) Only online use, or buy twice Tech support as helpful as professor.. Look elsewhere, GoodLuck
I took him online. It is very straightforward. Do the homework and you will pass. I like how you get your test scores right away since you use the mathlab. Participation is crucial. If you don't log in for a certain amount of time you will be dropped. Each week you have a certain amount of homework to do which is fairly easy.
Prof Swatzel teaches clear, he makes math make sense. He will make sure everyone understands the material before moving on. The bad: His tests don't really correlate to what's on the study guide. He would say "study everything", before a test, it's not humanly possible to memorize ALL math problems from the 2 chapters we covered.
I took this class online in the summer. It was hard because it was only 6 weeks long so there was A LOT to do in just a short period. I spent about 25 hrswk between homework and studying and tests. Homework is a must and will really help on the tests. The test questions are almost identical to the homework. Overall a good, but tough class.
I took his statistics online class over the summer. I definitely recommend going to the on campus Orientation class he offers the first week of session. He will go over what to expect and how to use the online program. It is NOT an easy class. I spent about 30+ hrs a week just doing homework problems. I also work full time though so it is do-able.
Took his hybrid class over the spring. It is more of an online class then a lecture by far. The in class lectures were very broad. Weekly assignments (15 total all online) 4 exams & 1 final. He was fair with negotiating due dates and the 4th exam because time was running out for us. I would recommend taking this course in a traditional setting.
4 tests 1 final and lots of hw. Final gets replaced by lowest test score. Class met once a week. This class is a do it yourself class- you have to teach yourself the material. I have mixed feelings. I struggled so much with the concepts. If you're bad at math like me don't take the distance Ed class. Take it entirely in person.
Took his online class, it wasn't too bad. The down side of this class is you have ALOT of homework. Probably 150-200+ problems a week. Seriously alot of work to do.
This class is not too hard, the only down side is there is a lot of homework. If you are taking this class b/c of a busy schedule, good luck because he assigns around 200 HW problems a week along with a test. Besides the few multiple choice ?'s, you literally need to solve each and everyone of them. It gets really frustrated sitting for hoursssss!
Expects 32 hours a week in hw and not clear instructions
I liked him. I took his hybrid class in the fall. I really wish that I took his normal class instead of his hybrid. It was totally an online class. There is no teaching involved, you teach yourself ALL of the material. We met once a week. Attendance was not necessary AT ALL (only on test days). The amount of homework is ridiculous, takes hours...
It wasn't a great class experience for many students. He was 30 minutes late pretty much everyday, added the hw and test grades late, and the material in the lesson, the hw, and the test don't add up. If you're already bad at math I wouldn't recommend.
Okay class. Since it was an online hybrid we only met once a week to go over any questions so he doesn't really teach, you teach yourself. He is nice and will help you if you ask. He only took attendance sometimes so I guess it doesn't matter if you come to class because a lot of people didn't come of left after 20 mins lol. Not hard, do work.
So much homework. If you have any other thing going on besides taking Swatzel's class, don't even bother. Extremely hard tests. Doesn't go over material twice. Everything on the homework site has to be exactly right to the tee in order to count so on top of the shear amount of work, it takes hours to do if you want a good grade.
This class has got to be the toughest test heavy & homework heavy class I have ever taken. The amount of work is truly overwhelming. Its not that difficult, its just a lot of work. This class with this professor should not be taken if youre taking other classes! You wont have time to get anything done!Theres so much homework! Long long tests!
In this class you to truly need to push yourself, it's not for everyone. If you don't get the material ask him some questions, YouTube is super helpful for the technology aspect. I took alot of notes and heavily depended on homework assignments for tests & final . As for swatzel he can be sassy at times lol but he is a genuine character.
Math is not my strong subject. With that being said, Professor Swatzel did a wonderful job of teaching introductory statistics in a way that made it understandable for me and applicable to real life situations. He is serious when it comes to teaching the material correctly, yet has a great sense of humor with the class! I truly recommend!
He was a very helpful and awesome teacher. The class was very technology based. Not really a math class and he was pushing the use of bringing laptops to class.
Statistics lectures were based on power points and definitions. You don't really learn the concepts. You have to buy an extra subscription just to do your homework, which is extra money and then the on line hw is tough and based on, again, memorizing definitions and not concepts. hw graded hard. Confusing lectures and a lot of homework. Avoid.
Cancels class a lot, gives minimal amount of homework its due in a week he will even extend the deadline of homework most of the time. Only gives about 5 tests, he makes it easy to pass the class as long as you understand the math!
You have to pay to do homework, he makes you do all the homework online and using statcrunch and then gives us an exam on paper and expects us to do the test with no statcrunch.
Good professor. Teaches class as if you were at a University. Expects a lot and minimal help unless you ask for it. However, very helpful when asked. One thing I didnt like is says things like you should know this. Some of us have been out of school for a long time.
The worse professor I EVER had. Always shows up late & never reads his emails. My grandpa had just passed away during the semester ( I emailed him before & told him everything), I cried during class one day, I stood up & he stopped the entire class to asked me where I was going while smirking & just laughed at me. Very disturbing, never again.
Took this class online during winter! Wouldnt recommend doing that. Each week you have between 100-250 homework questions due on Friday and a test due that following Sunday. Plus trying to read the textbook to understand what youre doing. He uses StatCrunch, takes forever to respond to emails and very vague when he does. Get ready to stress
I have always been bad at math, and was afraid to take this class online. I took it for winter and had an exam every week and homework do every week (loads of homework). I recommend taking this class on its own for winter or summer. After getting the hang of statcrunch the homework is a piece of cake. It was stressful but worth it. I got a 80.06%.
NOOOOOO. This guy is unrealistic! Taking his Math 165 class online. Basically dont take any other classes if you want to pass. Loads of homework, like ridiculous amounts each week, tests are timed and there is not enough time to do them. Difficult!
I took his class from 7:45 am - 9: 50 am. He occasionally came in late, but it wasn't a big deal. He's straightforward in his lecture, although a bit too monotone for my interest. If you attend all classes (awake) and put in the work, you'll pass. Also, prepare for a lot of online homework on MyLab. He also assigns five tests with a cheat sheet.
The class was definitely lecture heavy, but its pretty slow so if you tend to fall asleep easily, I wouldnt recommend. Swatzel frankly doesnt care at all if youre late, so no need to stress about that. Loads of online homework, some reaching 100 questions. Test is semi difficult but balanced since he allows a note card and a full pg for final.
Took Online Statistics. My mistake was taking 2 more classes that semester. This alone would have been an easy A. Video lectures are long. StatCrunch helps speed up HW problems but youtube had the best explanation on how to use StatCrunch. Tests make up majority of grade but if you keep up w/HW & write/copy problems down they are the same on tests.
Avoid him for calc. It isn't his strong suit and he spends more time figuring out the problems for himself and forgets that we need to understand it also. He's bad at explaining concepts, makes many mistakes, and students have to help him when he gets stuck. Hw doesn't match up with lecture. Does not prepare you for exams. A lot of time is wasted.
He doesn't teach at all. You have to teach yourself everything. He packs homework 300 questions per week and quizzes and test overlap so it's impossible to study for everything. He had the last test, homework due the same week as the final. He let us know about the final a day before he posted it which hurt everyone.
Took prof swatzel for online trig. 4 exams at 20% each and hw is worth 20% of grade. Exam Q's come straight from the hw, same thing with different numbers, no tricks. The material was straightforward and prof swatzel was always available for help through pearson or email.
He is one of those professors that makes you want to do better because you respect how much he cares that you do well. I would absolutely take him again. You can tell her is caring and considerate especially in life situations. Meaning he understands what it is to be human, but makes sure you get your work done. I didn't love math until now!
Had him for Calc 180. Very difficult class in itself, but the MyLab Math program made it so much harder. I generally hate it when I end up with a professor who uses this system. Winter is already accelerated and we have so much to get through and this program's tedious format is horrible.
I had this professor for math 180 business calculus. I don't like math but this class was much better than I expected. The professor really cares about his students and understands that life gets in the way sometimes, plus he taught us about investing in retirement accounts.
I just finished the online Math 180 with Professor Swatzel, and I was hesitant but I am glad I did. Yes, the class had a lot of work, but for a winter math class that is to be expected. I feel I would of been less stressed taking this class in the spring, but I was able to keep up with the work. He is very clear about what needs to be done and when
I took MATH 180 with Professor Swatzel over this past Winter semester. I'm at a four year university and don't regret taking it, lots of HW but he made everything so easy. Everything is on MyMathLab and he gave us extensions multiple times, super caring. 4 Exams, 1 Final Exam, drops lowest score out of the 4. 10/10 professor- highly recommend
