He is the best english teacher ever! This guy DOESN'T believe in midterm or finals. He's very passionate about the literature you read in class. He's very fun to discuss with, and everyone would be joining in cause he's just awesome. There's like four essays the whole semester. HE is AWESOME!!!!

I didn't improve my writing skills, but i did learn. Through discussion of the text students are urged to think about life choices. The texts were easy along with the essays. Take the class and learn something about yourself and life in general. After all, college is about finding yourself.

He is the cool teacher. Read the books consciously no skimming and be original in your essays or whatever it may be. It is important to be interesting while incorporating the books main topics. It is critical thinking. You need to think about things in your own way and in many different ways. Really fun teacher and nice body too which is a plus.

My all time favorite English Professor. His lectures are interesting and you will not fall asleep. As long as you write well, you will do well. But he is always willing to help and work with you. I would definately reccomend taking him.

This was an awsome class! We had three essays which were about three pgs. each. He assigned about one short story and a poem to have read before each lecture. We had some in-class essays at the very beginning of class which he gave us half an hour to write. The class discussions were dynamic and interesting. Overall a great class!

I took him in spring. Great discussions on the readings, not a dull moment in the class. 3 essays at least 3 pages long about short stories from the book. Be sure to let him look your essays over before they're due because he's super helpful and a really nice guy.

If you want to improve your writing, have your voice heard and your opinion respected, and enjoy a huge variety of stories and essays, then take his class! He takes an interest in his students and has a genuine desire to help them as much as he can. And, only because it will encourage more people to take his class, I'll mention that he is a cutie.

His lectures on short stories in class were always pretty interesting because he takes a small idea and turns it into a profound explanation for what it means; almost every time! I lovedd this class because he did that it made me think beyond original meanings and he wasn't too bad to look at either ;)

Tayyar is the best professor GWC has hands down. Very passionate about teaching, fair, genuinely interested in what you have to say, and extremely helpful. He typically gives 3 essays with a 4 page minimum. As long as you do the reading and write a well thought out paper, and improve over the semester you should get a good grade.

I took him for my English 100 class and it was a lot easier than i expected. He is very cool and also very nice. Ask him anything, he will answer truthfully. We didn't even use a text book, just read 2 very short easy books. Wrote 3 papers. No homework. No tests. No quizzes. Do well on the papers and you will do well in the class.

I think he is overrated but that's just me. I was really bored with his discussions especially because it was early in the morning. Best English teacher i have ever taken. Teaches so well that I believe people with no interest in English will be interested in English after taking him. If you try, you will pass with a B. But you need to participate because there is going to be lots of discussions.

Okay I took English 110 and 114 with him and I do not like to say he is easy cause that means that he doesn't do his job, but I would say he would teach you new skills that will help you do well when you transfer to a university. 3 take home essays + some in class very short essays for attendance matter only, meaning, their grades would not count.

He's one of the best English teacher I've taken. I'm not a big fan of essays, and readings, but he really made it worth while, and easier to understand. I wish I could have taken him for all my English classes. Take him you won't regret it, He had us write 3 take home essays, a take home final paper (2-3) pages, 3 podcast, and 2 video summary.

I hate english classes (I'm a science person) but this professor made it bearable. He's nice and pretty funny. I went to his office once before my paper was due, and he helped me so much! I took his summer class right after graduating high school so it was a bit intensive but still doable. He was super helpful and it seems like he genuinely cares about his students. Doctor Tayyar is a great professor! Made me see literature and english in a whole new way. Took the summer class, made the four hour classes go by quickly. Format of the class is mainly group and class open discussion, several in class writings, three take home essays, and in class final. My writing skills improved drastically!

Great professor, took his summer course. very easy to receive a good grade just complete all essays on time and put some thought into your essays he wants to see your imagination in your writing, and make sure to read all required poems. I highly recommend mr tayyor for english if you want to get a good grade and have fun learning :)

I took the summer session class. Essays were easy as long as you know how to format them or word them the way he wants it. Every class was discussion based, and we watched a movie here and there. It's group discussions (he will walk around to listen sometimes), and you don't have to participate in the class discussions.

Paul Tayyar is charming, handsome, intelligent, and fun, but do not be fooled by his easy-going appearance! He grades quite tough and corrects grammar errors page by page on the essays. Class is heavily based on discussions, which is a bore most of the time. As long as you try your best, there is no reason not to pass his class with an A or a B!

This is my second class with Tayyar. Overall, as a person he is one of the nicest people I've met. Took this class Spring 2013. Very interesting and fun class. All take-home essays when I had his class.Each essay was about 4-5 pages but I believe they were all meaningful ones. With his Ph.D., he brings wealth of info on literatures. First time taking his class. Treats you with respect no matter what your opinion may be. He respects your views. Dr. Tayyar is a fantastic teacher. If you go to class, participate in class discussions (or simply listen if you're shy)and read the assigned reading you will do fine. He does not assign any textbooks they're all just books from all kinds of genre! This class really defines the true colors of literature.

all i can say is that tayyar is a dope professor. you have a discussion based on the reading he assigns every night (totally manageable) and then he let's you leave early. he is passionate about the subject and get's everyone involved. essays are based on readings we discuss in class so write down everything he says! essays are a breeze. take him!

In class work consists mostly of discussions of the assigned reading, with occasional quizzes to make sure you are completing the material. Professor Tayyar reminds me of Ed O'Neill from the show Married with Children. Tayyar is very understanding and kind. We had a total of 4 essays. 1 in class essay, 2 take home essays, and a final essay which was also taken home. Don't wait till last minute to do the essay, trust me. Loved this class. Took it as a summer course.

If you have a chance to take him for English 110 PLEASE TAKE HIM. Hes honestly the best teacher Ive ever had. One time during this semester we spent the class period outside in the garden writing poetry. Hes extremely supportive and he really wants everyone to pass the class. I wish I was taking another English class so I could take him again.

My favorite professor! He is so inspirational. He gives good feedback and helps you as much as he can. He is passionate about what he does and it shows! A few essays but the topics are interesting. He loves poetry so expect to read a lot of it. He gave me a new appreciation to literature.

Taking this class is the best decision I've made, and I used to hate English. I swear he is the nicest, most passionate, funniest professor/person in the world. He helps me out even when I'm no longer taking his class. Go to class, write your journals, ask Paul to review your essays, then there's no way you're not getting an A in this class.

Paul is my favorite professor of all time. He genuinely cares about his students and makes them feel validated during group discussions. Very easy to talk to, so if youre shy and dont like talking in class, talk to him one on one and hell be more than happy to help. His classes are real easy, do the work and you pass. Easy on the eyes as well.

He is one of my favorite professors ever! His class was so easy. For every class we would have to do a journal on the readings he assigned. It didn't matter if you wrote a little, he still gave you the credit. His final was a paper on a movie we saw. His prompts for the essays are not bad. Overall his class is super easy and he is down to earth!

Professor Paul is amazing! You can tell he genuinely cares about his students education and overall well-being. He puts forth the effort to incorporate multi-media sources into his lectures. He hand picks all readings so that they are interesting and meaningful. He also provides extra credit opportunities! So much passion in his lectures! TAKE HIM!

Very good professor with great and interesting lectures. Took him for winter for English 110. 4 books, 2 take home essays, 2 in class essays, 1 final, It's a lot of work because its a winter class but it is very manageable and he makes it fun. Fair grader, gives good feedback on essay and if you put in the effort you'll get an A.

Prof. Paul's lectures were insightful and he made each day in class interesting. There was a fair amount of reading, all essays that can be connected to present day issues. I suggest taking notes during the in class discussions, they can be very thorough and will come in handy when working on essays. Only grades on a few things, so be on the ball.

Best teacher I have taken thus far in college! I took Tayyar for Intercession so it was very fast paced, although he made attending class everyday something to look forward to rather than an obligation (he did let us out early every single class). We had 2 take home essays and a final essay. He would also help you w/ your essay before it was due.

THE BEST! He worked hard to engage everyone in class and made sure that we had an understanding on the material. Lots of writing but as long as you have SOMETHING written down you'll get credit. We did have essays that were graded fairly. I wouldn't say it's an easy class but as long as you participate you'll be fine.

Super passionate about what he teaches, yet lenient and understanding of his students. Took his 8-week class and never felt rushed-- even got to watch a movie nearly every class. I would take this class again or even just swing by to discuss philosophy art or literature with him.

Paul is the best english prof. I've ever had! I'm a math person and always had to take the remedial english classes because I was so poor in the subject :( You can tell he is really passionate about teaching and wants everyone in his class to succeed. This was my last english class EVER and I got my first A on my last essay! So THANK YOU PAUL !!

Theres 4 essays based on the novels and poems you read throughout the semester. Theres no midterm exam only a final. We had thoughtful discussions during class. Overall it wasnt a stressful class.

Paul is truly one of the best professors here at GWC! 4 books, 3 papers, and 1 final. He grades extremely fast and gives good feedback. He really cares about his students and is always willing to work with them. Just an overall great, kind, and humble person. I'm going to miss this class!

He's one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are so in depth and helped me understand the books he had us read in a way I don't think I could've if I read them on my own. He is super understanding and lenient on papers & reading, but don't take this for granted. If you have the choice, definitely take his class.

Literally my favorite teacher ever. He's very encouraging and never makes you feel dumb about your input. Don't be shy to participate in class, he will never make you feel embarrassed about what you say and will always add on to it, even if it may not make total sense. His class made me very comfortable with sharing my opinions :)

If you need to take ENGL 110, take it with Prof. Tayyar. I have been at Golden West College for 3 years and he is by far my favorite professor. Paul is a gem. He is so nice and positive that it makes you wonder how any human being can be so pleasant to be around. I've taken Creative Writing and Appreciation of Literature with Paul and I would recommend taking any class of his. Brilliant and inspirational you won't be disappointed.

One of the sweetest and most amazing professors I've ever had. I wish I could have taken another one of his courses but my schedule didn't allow it. He really makes you fall in love with literature and the class is just taught as a great book club. I wish everyone on campus could take a class with him.

Paul is a great professor and is very caring! We did happen to read a lot in his class but they were never boring reads. He is a very easy grader, we had quizzes (5 questions) weekly about the readings but they were easy! As long as you read you will pass he is definitely there to help!

Even though all of the COVID, it was wonderful. He does make you read a lot, but the books are generally not very long. Speak up in class and try to add to the discussions; that always helps make the class more entertaining. He does random quizzes, but for the most part, you're graded on a couple of essays, midterm and final. Essays are 3-4pgs.

I like how Paul reviews all the readings and stories. He is really a tough grader on essays, but he provides you a good feedback, so you can improve it. 5 books total and essays based on all the books. Take him if you have the opportunity because he is a great professor.

Prof. Tayyar will help improve your creative writing tremendously! The books and work he assigns are designed to make you think more creatively, and inspire ideas. He gives great feedback on everything! No discussion boards. He assigns 1 weekly creative piece, questions on assigned books and 3 papers. Great class for those interested in writing.

Professor Tayyar is a great teacher! He was so easy to talk too, did not overload us with any busy work just reading the books he assigned. He lets you get feedback on any essays before they are due and helps you in any way he can! He is so great I 100% recommend this class!

The whole class was a breeze and the essays were probably the easiest assignments I have ever seen in my life. I skipped almost all the readings because of how unnecessary they were in my opinion. I spent less than an hour each week completing any work needed and ended the class with almost a 100% through extra credit.

I can't express how wonderful Paul Tayyar is with this limited amount of characters. Engl110 was one of the best classes I've ever taken! He is so understanding, & it shows how much he cares about his students with tons of extra credit & him always being accessible to help with anything, including midterms & finals. Tayyar is an absolutely amazing professor who genuinely cares about his students. He always accommodated our needs and moved back due dates if possible. Also, the homework assignments were so easy and the essays were short and doable. He created a comfortable environment where anyone could participate and not feel awkward. Take him if you can.

He is an amazing professor. He truly cares about literature and tries to get his students to appreciate it too. You analyze a few poems, stories, songs, and paintings every week. The assignments may feel difficult but he will help and they are not as bad as they seem. Find yourself a study buddy and you'll pass with a high A without a doubt.

I dont love English but I loved this class! Prof is very caring and knows many of us are taking 110 as a req but just wants us to be able to think critically. One weekly assignment based off poems/short stories from a book you have to buy. One book that you write a paper on that is pretty easy. 3 papers. Easy grader unless you dont try on papers

Instead of using a boring textbook he assigned reading from different sources, like a book of poems. Is clear with grading and offers help with proofreading before turning in essays.

A great professor who is engaging and very respectful. He does not make you feel stupid when participating in class and is always using your input in lectures no matter how off-topic your input is. He grades well and this is probably one of the best classes I have taken. Which speaks a lot.

While my friends complain that they have to read a lot when studying with other professors, I feel so grateful that I study with Professor Tayyar. He teaches us to analyze music, paint, poem, and novel so I never feel heavy. He always respects, and compliments every single answer. He is also willing to revise all of your essays if you need.

Professor Tayyar is an open-minded and kind person. He listens to your opinion and gives feedback. Take a lot of notes of what he is saying then you'll know what to write in your essay. Does not give extra credits so be mindful of what you submit. Very inspirational and nice. Gets back quickly with your concern. Not a lot of homework.

Professor Tayyar is amazing. He's super helpful and kind. Covid was hard for me, but he was understanding and considerate about homework and absences. His classes are easy if you participate and read all the material. I highly recommend for English majors and new students who need 100 and 101 classes.

I genuinely enjoyed his class. He is an interesting person, inside and outside the classroom. I took his 6-week course. We had 2 papers, 2 journals, 2 creative writing assignments, and a final exam. We had to read 6 poems and 2 short stories every week. We analyzed them in class and our papers, journals, and exams were about them.

You can tell Professor Tayyar is passionate about teaching. He caters to his student's needs. If you need an extension, do not be afraid and ask. The course is writing heavy with three essays and journal entries (I don't remember the amount). Getting an A+ or high A is doable because he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Paul is the best teacher I've ever had. He is incredibly patient and gentle with his students and makes every single person in his class feel heard, appreciated, and uplifted. I never wanted to miss a single day of his lectures. He teaches not only lit but the cultural context around it and allows for a deep understanding of the material. 10/10

Seriously, take him every change you get. He teaches more than just literature. He tells you why it mattered at the time and what was going on in the world and allows you to broaden your perspective. He is also incredibly kind, gentle, and encouraging to every single student who gets the pleasure to know him. Take his classes. You won't regret it.

I have taken ENG 110 with Professor Tayyar, I would say that he is one of the respected English teacher here at Golden west college. He explains is reading, assignment, and application why it matters when he deliver his lecture and speeches. Overall, if you get a chance take his class!

Professor Tayyar is an incredible professor. I came back to school after a while of being gone not knowing what to expect and I could not have asked for a better professor. He is uplifting, responsive, thorough, and truly cares about his students. 10/10!

By far my favorite professor I have ever taken. You will want to attend every class you can because he leads incredibly thoughtful and insightful discussions and takes the time time to really listen to every student in his class. Open to new ideas, genuinely one of the most caring people I have ever met full stop. I'm so sad the class is over!

Considerate of multiple learning styles. He integrates music and art into his course so that you get a fuller understanding of the material. He also teaches you a bit about history to give context to the readings you do. I learned more from him than I have from any other professor.

Professor Tayyar is an extremely nonchalant and unique instructor. His assignments consist of a huge variety such as music, art, poetry, stories, books, videos, and much more. He really teaches students how to critically think at any sort of angle and perspective, and he is always so friendly and warm. Class is optional sometimes, which is nice!

Professor Tayyar was the best professor I have had in college thus far. Extremely kind, reasonable, and supportive! He includes lectures regarding so much more than just literature which I loved. No quizzes, exams, or discussions, just papers. Class was always such a positive and fulfilling experience. Couldn't recommend him more!

A very easy yet interesting class! Dr. Tayyar is a very kind person, although he does seem to come off as ingenuine at times. The assignments are a mix of journals, essays, and I believe there will be a final exam at the end which I'm unsure about. Definitely one of the more enjoyable classes I have taken so far! I will miss it when I'm done

He's a good guy and his assignments are doable. The only thing I can really say is his terrible attendance policy. I racked up like 7 absences for emergencies and picking up my family members, so we're going to pray he doesn't drop my grade as much as he says he will.

This class is perfect for people who write artistically. His lectures are definitely more focused on emotion and introspection. He encourages optional public speaking. If you prefer structured and easily researchable subjects, this class may be difficult for you. AI can't help you. Not too much writing, but reading is important. I loved this class!

I learned a lot about myself in this class because of how personal the essays were. I was so sick of writing 3 million essays about the economy, so this was very refreshing. The professor also has great music taste.

16 week course during Fall 24. He is funny, caring, and passionate about English. Very motivational. You will leave his class feeling great. Work on the prompts during class since he usually has them as assigned homework to turn in. He also takes time to read over any rough drafts and offers suggestions. Easy A

easy and boring class. There are two discussion boards each week and they are all the same, pretty much. There are some papers and paragraphs to write, which are also pretty boring. The textbook can be interesting, but I don't think I learned a whole lot since you're mostly teaching yourself. Take this class if you just need the credits!

I'm taking a 6-week course that's super fast, with 2 essays, 3 journals, and a final (comprising 1 essay, 1 journal, and 1 poem). There are a lot of poem readings, he's fair in grading, just put all your hard work, you will ace an A in this class.

Prof. Tayyar has a great deal of literary knowledge. Treated us all with respect and understanding. The classroom felt like a fun book club discussing that week's reading. Even showed a few films. He is easy-going, friendly, and truly cares for his students. Assignments were not difficult, and he always gave good feedback.

Taking his critical thinking hybrid course, really chill teacher, is organized, no note-taking, it's like a book club lecture. Gives good feedback and never makes you feel like your answer is wrong. Not Mandatory to Speak but Encouraged. Email Responses Fast! No Exams, just Essays, which he gives a prompt weeks in advance. Very Understanding!

A friend recommended this English class, and it completely changed my view towards this subject. My previous professor discouraged me, but this Professor helped me learn so much about poems and essays. The professor is understanding, caring, and never puts anyone on the spot, and I've gained far more knowledge here than in my last English class.

Truly one of the best professors I've had. He's a bit like John Keating—passionate, thoughtful, and deeply knowledgeable in his field and beyond. If you get the chance to take his class, do it; he creates a space where students can genuinely think and speak freely. The essays are handwritten; however the average is like a 93%. So don't worry much.

Amazing teacher who really cares about every student. Very engaging class discussions. Majority of work is creative writing & enjoyable. All tests are in-class essays besides the final take-home essay. Endlessly helpful. He literally offered me a letter of rec & proofread my transfer application because he really cares. 100/10
