definition of a pompous idiot. doesnt know a thing about teaching. almost prevented me from attending UCSB cause he failed me for no apparent reason. refused to meet with me to discuss my grade. class had no format/curriculum. liked to hear himself talk. stay away!

WORST CLASS EVER. i dropped it after a few weeks. it was the most ridiculous class ever. he would talk for hours and hours and hours about nothing relative to the subject and nothing that you want to listen to. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. you will not have fun. he tells you strait up that you wont pass. HORRRIBLE TEACHER>

He rants about things that do not pertain to English. He is not clear on his assignments. There isn't a textbook to reference to what he says and he will not help you if you ask what you did wrong on your papers.

Literally the WORST teacher I've ever had.

I will seriously don't recommend this class to anyone. He give very ridiculous assigments and expects alot of research and work from them. Also the essays assigments are like 20pg paper. Its Aweful, the worst experience since i've been at COS.His a good guy but not a good teacher.

I seriously do not recommend this teacher. His assignments were so ridiculous and the writing prompts never made any sense. He talked a lot about nothing at all. He couldn't even follow a schedule and was far behind.

He talked about interesting thing. But nothing about the subject. Almost like he expected you to know it. Never explained himself. Switched your assignment at the last moment. Told me my assignment was good one week then changed his mind the next. Like dude just teach the subject don't wast my time!!!

Unorganized, forgetful, inconsistent, rambled on about possible teacher strike and budget. I didn't learn a thing except some things about food reform.....

Would not recommend Tidwell to anyone. He says one thing one week then says another the next. So far, no one in the class has higher than a C. He's wishy-washy about what he expects and is EXTREMELY demanding. He goes off topic every time and we never manage to get anything done.

Tidwell is the worst teacher I have ever had throughout my college history. Every day, he would share with the class that everyone is failing, we were getting nowhere, and that we didn't reach his expectations no matter how hard we tried. He went off of subject every day and talked about his own life. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone.

Absolutely terrible teacher. He was always off topic and always talking about government and food politics. Also always put people down and put the whole class down reminding us every day that we were failing and if we cant pass english, we wont succeed in life. Very disorganized. Would assign essays then never collect or give grades. Worst teacher

WORST teacher on campus. Sadly, I am pretty good at english however he doesn't clarify anything he wants from you and started off the semester saying "Now don't think you are getting anything above a "C" unless you put in atleast 20 plus hours a week on my class alone"

Don't take him, you will regret it. Worst teacher at COS. He just talks the whole class time which makes it really boring. And you won't even know what he's talking about. He thinks the only class you have is English so you expects to much from you. Horrible!

The most horrible professor I've ever had. Off topic, huge ego, unclear, unhelpful, never clearly explains an assignment, talks the entire class time about nothing. Horrible teacher, save your time and money and choose another professor!!

There are only two weeks left in this semester, and he still has yet to return our *very first essay of the semester.* One cannot be expected to write well if she never receives feedback. He is unclear in communication and makes contradictory statements. Told us to write a personal narrative when he really wanted a research paper. Avoid his class.

Worst teacher ever

Save yourself from enduring this teacher's long and really off topic lectures. Tidwell would be an amazing teacher if we were in a biology class, but this is English! He's also very inconsistent with his posted office hours. And to top it all off, he lags on returning essays! Just try your hardest to avoid Tidwell!

Worst instructor EVER come in contact with. Don't care if you're an English major do NOT take this course. Talks about himself throughout the entire 4hr class, then the last 5mins tell u about the hw or randomly throw a 10 page essay at you! class started with about 30 students and 3 weeks later there were 8. Expect to fail.

His grading criteria was never accurate. What he said in lecture would be different on paper and would also be different in the next lecture. He goes off on different tangents, leaving the students to figure out how to write the papers. And he was very rude at times. It was either his way or the highway

Hardest class I have ever taken and I typically excel in English. The workload is crazy as well as his expectations given he is NOT clear on what he wants. He puts students down and blames us for every mistake he makes. He also talks about very inappropriate things to his class. Just avoid him and the unnecessary stress all together!

Tidwell talks a lot about stuff that has nothing to do with the topic, when we went over our essays he would get off topic and we wouldn't get stuff done. Yes,if you miss class time you will be left behind but even if you don't miss (I never missed a day) it was still very difficult. He was never clear on prompts or with what he wanted. Goodluck!

Im my opinion I wouldnt would not take this class again. He talks about so much stuff thats not even relevant to the work we are suppose to be focused on Mx He rants and rants about how the education system is not helping up and says that we wont be anybody in life

Isnt specific of what he wants, he basically has you figure out what he wants, not supportive whats so ever, he isnt fair on grading. He doesnt care of how much hard work you put in if you dont reach his expectations, you wont pass. you Can look for help at the writing center, but not even they understand what he wants, recommend to fail.

Hes not meant to be at a community college ! Since day one he would tell the class Ive taught at a university so my standards for this class are very high, he expects you to know what he wants you to do for your assignments you can seek for help from the W.C or the L.C but that doesnt even guarantee that you will pass HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!

The worst professor I have had yet. He is far from clear on his expectations and does not state exactly what he wants until after we have turned in our essays. Every single class he would ramble off-topic. He spent the whole semester talking about how we are bad writers and how we will fail his class.

It was the hardest class I have ever taken. It wasn't the work it was the teacher. He didn't communicate what he clearly wanted until after the papers are submitted. Very strong political views based on assignments. Hard to pass if opposed. Put in so many hours along with tudors received a C . I got 3 A's on other hard classes same semester.

This is a late review because I took his class a couple semesters ago, but he is the worst professor I've had by far. No only was he confusing, but mid semester he had us all write down whether or not we were planning on going to a university and then said he was going to be grading those who are harder. He also made his political views very clear

Paul Tidwell was by far the worst instructor I ever had the misfortune of taking for an English class. He was often late or missed class altogether, openly insulted students, and made condescension and a conceited droll his curriculum.

The worst and only terrible professor I have encountered at COS. He spends a lot of class time fixated about his pass time teaching at universities. The first day of lecture he had us all raise our hands if we wanted to pass the class, and of course we all did. He then proceeded to tell us that not even half of us will graduate. Awful person.

Professor Tidwell expects us to be masters when it comes to his class. I have made simple mistakes in my essays and rather than circle them or give me an idea he failed the entire paper and told me to redo it all. I redid the whole paper and attended tutoring and still received the same gade. I kept emailing him for help on my paper but nothing.
