as long as you pay attention and come to class, you wont have to worry about it. he makes it seem really hard the first day, kinda scares ya, but its really not bad

Torrez teaches exactly the stuff that you need to know when you transfer. Participate in class discussion, and take notes. Also, you can write your own oppinion, he grades based on the quality of work, not political allignment.

He's tough and strict, but a great teacher...as long as you pay attention and take notes, he pretty much GIVES u the answers to tests. He's funny and knows what he's talking about. Great class discussions too!

Great teacher. Very dramatic. Very Very Dramatic. It's a tough class, if your looking for an easy A go with Blair, if your looking to learn and actually grasp Poli SCi to a good degree go with Torres.

He's such a good teacher! He's really passionate and his class is kind of hard, but it's interesting and you learn SOO much and it's not biased at all. He has funny quirks and twitches but he's funny when he loosens up.

Tough class, but he gets really involved and wants students to get involved as well. Very helpful if you take the time to ask. Expects students to act like adults, which may be hard for some people who are just out of high school.

Taken a couple classes with him. The classes are interesting, class participation is a must! He grades hard, but do your reading and go to class and you will be prepared for his test. He does grade you on writing ablity so make sure you have taken eng 1a first.

Prof. Torres is the best teacher I have met at Las Po, He presented the subject matter clearly, and was fair in his grading.

Good class, interesting, He is very good at explaining it, and making sure you understand. HARD tests, I'm a good test taker, and was still stressed. He has some weird ticks, and licks his hand when he is talking....so many dont shake his hand, I know I wouldn't.

I loved his class! Will always help you if you are dedicated. Coming to class is a must! Be prepared for his tests! I thought they were easy, but a lot of other people struggled. Pay attention and you'll learn a lot!

Attendance is mandatory and textbook usage is high. He's a great teacher, but the tests are insanely in depth considering everything he goes over. Be prepared for war (mentally)...

Some people find his class extremely hard but if you just take notes and read what he tells you to then you'll know every answer on the tests easy! Don't take his essays lightly though he expects a lot from them. Very fair teacher though and LOVES to help if you take the time to go see him!

He is extremely passionate about Political Science, and he makes students want to be more involved in government. He is not easy at all, text are pretty hard but he is completely thorough in his lectures. Come to class, listen, and take good notes. I highly recommend taking this course. He is worth your time!

I am in my late 40's and was not prepared for what I encountered in this class. As it turned out, I loved this clas and learned so much about American Government. Mr. Torres was very helpful when I sought his advice. I highly recommend Mr. Torres, he is fair and keeps the class on pace! You must attend, otherwise don't bother with the class.

If you want an easy A this is not your class. However Torres will make himself as available as possible. There isn't a lot of homework but it's important you start thinking about it the minute you're notified. Exams are hard but if you attend class and take notes it shouldn't be an issue. Honestly, the people who have been giving him bad reviews are probably the ones who think las po is supposed to be easy and sit in the back, text messaging. GREAT CLASS!! you learn alot of you pay attention and ask when you do not know. tutors and Torres are VERY helpful. I highly recommend this class!

Great teacher. Doesn't rush things and actually goes into great detail on everything. The tests arent hard as long as you follow the study guide that he gives.

This teacher is a great teacher! He warned us the first day it was going to be hard, you need to read the book, and study alot. He DOESN'T push his views at all, he pushes different ideas that most people wouldn't think about and then gives both sides to it. If you want to have a discussion, he is always up for it. One of my favorite teachers. The lectures are long but still extremely interesting. I'm the type of student that is horrible at taking test but if you go to his office hours he will help you on the study guide. I learned a great deal from his class and I'm happy i took it.

This is just about the BEST teacher I have had through out two years at laspo. He makes the class so interesting and is always available if you need help. He is passionate about the subject and cares about his students which contributes to a really great class. I didn't think i like politics at all until taking his class and now I love it!

i hate politcal science, but he made it extremely interesting. i got a b in his class but had to work my ass off for it. take notes on everything and do you study guide (which take time) study it and you will do fine on the test. i really though enjoyed his class, even though he gives me a little bit of the creeps! but he knows his stuff!!

He is a very hard teacher and I know the subjects better than most since it is my major. But if you pay attention in class you should be fine. The test essays follow the outlines in the book and his lectures word-for-word. I don't read much but take notes in class and participate. PoliSci 7= B+, Poli Sci 30= A (so far). You will learn a lot!

He talks really fast and grades tests as if we are supposed to be as smart as him. The class is ridiculous. Don't take him.

Very good teacher. Take notes word for word on his lectures. Very little class work. Grade is based on 4 tests. The tests are 2 essays plus multiple choice/true false questions. if you show up to every class, take notes you will pass. I highly recommend using the tutors. They are really helpful. I got an A in his class and this is what I did.

Taking his class right now. He's a great lecturer and makes the class interesting. But tests are difficult and he grades essays really strictly! Reading, attendance, and studying are a must!!! Best teacher I have ever had, by far. I also took him for POLI 7. He made me want to change my major to Poli-Sci. Fairly difficult. He does expect you to come to class and thrive. HE LOVES WHEN STUDENTS ASK QUESTIONS/START A DISCUSSION. The reading is important but not nearly as important as he says it is. Not an "easy A" but intriguing classes.

Great teacher, and great class overall. I highly encourage anyone thinking about taking any of his classes to be prepared to work very VERY hard. But I will say that I learned a lot. He knows his material and has a good teaching style. Also, get the textbook, you really do need it, his lectures are essential.

Loved his course. Lectures are very informative and interesting. He gives you pretty much exactly whats going to be on the test, you just have to actually study. Yes it's a lot of work, but at least it's all laid out right in front of you and you know exactly what's going to be on the test. Take good notes and attend class! I took him twice!

Very Very hard class! Tells you to drop a lot. Also, if you do not write your essay answers exactly he way he wants, he tells you that you didn't study and he can't help you at all. I was interested before I started, and i needed the class so i stayed. probably failed.

Walked into the class with no desire to be a political science major. Only took the class because I needed transfer units. He was without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. if you do not ATTEND and write down all NOTES verbatim/copy someone else's if missed & read the book (LECTURES are far more important though) you will crash on exams. Grade MAINLY BASED ON 3 EXAMS- TOUGHLY GRADED. but he makes it clear what to study. He's smart, opinionated and accommodating when you seek help. proud of but STUDIED HARD. Love him

Mr. Torres is the best teacher I've had in my two years I've spent in college so far. But his classes are not easy, at all. It's best to be prepared to learn, read the book, take a lot of notes, see the counselor or go to his office hours and study a lot to succeed. Which is what any college course should consist of, this isn't high school.

Not as hard as people say he is. Read the textbook and regurgitate the information for a solid A in the class. Do make sure you attend his first few classes as he drops students who don't show up for the first few classes. Overall would recommend, quite knowledgeable even if his class is a bit more work than the standard community college class.

It is best that you attend every class seeing as though he does not put his lectures online, but if you have any questions he is there to help at his office hour. I recommend him completely!! This class is not for lazy students but if you try it can be a really interesting class. Mr. Torres is very clear, willing to help, and gives great lectures. He always makes sure everyone understands before moving on and encourages questions. His tests are tough but again, study a bit and pay attention in class and you are golden.

He's a really great teacher. His notes are nicely formatted and clear. His exams aren't hard and all the information is provided in the notes which follow to book exactly, but they are two essays and mult choice. He's really inspiring and intelligent and you will learn in his class.

Prof. Torres is extremely thorough. His class is tough, no doubt - but, you will learn an immense amount of knowledge from him. Lectures are thorough, tests even more so - you can NEVER write enough on tests, fill it with all you know. I recall 2 quizzes + a final, and 2 papers. If you read the book and takes good notes from the book and in the class you will do well. I thought the tests were pretty as he gives the essay questions to you before the test.

This isn't a class where you can slack off. The papers and exams are based solely off the notes you do in class. He provides you with the contact information for tutors specifically for his class and they're a great help! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE YOUR PHONE IN THIS CLASS. It will be the end of you, trust me.

Definitely one of the most difficult GE's I've ever taken; Torres makes you WORK for an A. Get on his good side. Visit him during office hours and participate in class. His essay Q's are purely based off the book. You will not pass if you don't read. Take good in-class notes and take a week to prepare for his exams, and you'll do well.

Easily the best teacher I've ever had. But that is because he makes you work really hard for a good grade. Extremely hard grader on tests. Over half the class dropped after the first test. Torres is a great lecturer. although you need the book to prep for the test he goes over everything you need in order to do well. pay attention to the things he emphasizes in class (names, theories, principles...) and try to latch on to the general concept. he's more generous and kind during office hours. don't be scared!

I really enjoyed this course with Professor Torres and he actually inspired me to become a Political Science major. I am now at a top university and feel that his course prepared me extremely well for the work I am now doing. His class challenges you to improve yourself and he is very passionate and knowledgeable. I appreciated his dedication.

I struggled a lot in this class. One of the biggest issues is that grades and assignments are not posted online, which is the standard in all other classes. If you miss just one announcement in class, you're done for. The material is already difficult, so that doesn't help. I did like his teaching style, though. Very deep and detailed.

This professor isnt for everyone. He is for students who like to challenge themselves and are willing to put time and effort into the class. This is the hardest class Ive ever taken at Las Positas and I wouldnt have passed if I didnt go to his office hours for help. He REALLY cares about his students passing and will do anything he can to help.

I studied hard for his tests and it paid off. If your not giving yourself at least 5 days of test prep your not getting an A. He wants every essay question answered in complete detail. He likes questions from the class during his lectures so if you want to get on his good side quick, participate. I loved his class and think Torres is great overall

I really think he's a good professor and he cares about his students' success. Almost all the classes are just lectures and note-taking, but you should definitely ask questions to get on his good side. The exams are a lot of work; lots of the exam topics are covered in the book and not in the lecture. But overall a really fun teacher!

READ. THE. BOOK. You will 100% fail every single one of his tests if you solely go off his class notes without reading the book; exams are a breeze if you do.
