Hard as hell but he knows what he is talking about. He may rip you apart during class but that only makes you stronger and want to do better. Plus his class is a blast!
Sometimes I hated the class, sometimes I enjoyed it. His job is to make you think. He does his job. If you can't handle a little heat, then you will not enjoy his classes.
If you have any religious beliefs whatsoever, be prepared to fail his class!
great teacher. Doesn't care what you believe rather why you believe it to be true. if you think your pet rock is God, thats great as long as you can back it up. Be prepared to be ripped up. it will only make you stronger.
I was ready to give him a chance, despite all the negative comments from other students, until I experienced humiliation and embarrassment on the first day of class. He is extremely judgemental, but believes this will better his students in the long run.
Tudi rocks!

Great guy! wonderful and passionate teacher. knows the subject matter and doesn't act like teaching is a chore.
Tudico is the man! Anyone who does disagrees is an ass!
Failing has nothing to do with religious belief...but rather if your thinking is logical. If it isn't...then, that's why the stupid ones fail. Still one of my most favorite classes...and yes, go to class expecting to be challenged....on everything.
This guy is hilarious! as long as you're not afraid to stand up for what you believe in, don't be afraid to take his calss! I enjoyed it a lot and it was fun...i don't think i ever didn't leave a class pumped and ready to debate more!
Everyone should be required to take practical reasoning with this man. He will test your beliefs and teach you how to defend them. This will be one of the most worthwhile classes you will ever take. Also, the guy is hilarious.
i had to have this class to cover my major but god forbid i hated this class and tudico..hes just some NY dude who thinks hes better than everyone! ergh!
I have no clue how someone can teach "intellectual ethics" when he belittles others and reduces them to tears in class. I am not sure that it is a professor’s place to call his students “stupid” ether…
Incredibly interesting in the beginning, he definitely challenges what you think. Towards the middle it gets sort of repetitive. Funny but will push and prode students to get them to think. I advise everyone to take this class for he tests all forms of thinking about life and meaning.
Tudico will challenge you, but I think we're in college now, and I think we should be able to handle it. He just inspires you to THINK about who you are and why you have the thoughts and beliefs you do. It's an excellent class. If not, major in Physical Education.
His lack of true communication ruins his obvious intellectual abilities. He is self rightious and lacks clarity in his thinking and teaching style. He never grades or returns papers, and his final grade is arbitrary as far as I can tell. He is disrespectful of ideas heis unfamilial with, but I di
Incredibly smart, passionate guy...Forces you to think, with the only true critiera for the class being your willingness to think things through...Makes you understand why philosophy matters...Sure, the ego could trample you, but don't let that deter you from his taking his classes...Learn something
Funny teacher, but has a good time making you feel stupid, and he doesnt care to tell you to your face that you are not intelligent.
Not bad teacher, but though professor of phil. as convo, doesn't promote environment to create conversation. Many times small numbers dominate class participation. Has a tendency to push students away w/criticism. If you don't talk don't expect much and he can chose favorites. A love or hate class.
Also had him for convo and PR. True he can and will stampead over any belief you have but stick it out and he will stample on everyones. He knows alot and can argue anything and does so just to make you think. Don't take things personaly and any of his classes can change your life in a good way.
i hate this man, i hate his class, i hate his ta, i hate everything tudico. and you will too.
A teacher's place is not to belittle his students or tell them in class that they're stupid and everything they think is wrong. His teaching style is in deseperate need of an overhaul. It is possible to challenge students to rethink their beliefs without making them feel like they are idiots.
great guy, great class. anyone who thinks he is too mean just needs to either toughen up some or actually think on their own.

my best professor so far. he is far and made me think.
he has more reviews on this site than any other professor...so that should tell you something. he's a very polarizing teacher. i LOVED the class. he's smart and isn't afraid of pushing class discussions to the limit. be prepared to take a stand on everything you believe. he lets no one get off easy.
I hate this man. His final is a 50 min conversation alone with him in an office. God help anyone who has him. Also, if you aren't an athiest you are pretty much screwed in this class because he doesn't care for people who believe.
It's not about the class content...it is the fact that Tudico is a heartless human being. He is very rude and is very unhelpful. I can't believe he is still teaching, I had him over 3 years ago! If you want to feel like you are worth nothing, Tudico will be more than happy to help you with that!
he talks big game but i heard he voted for bush.
Had to take it...hated it with a PASSION.
I was a philosophy major before I had Tudico. He made me feel stupid and worthless. He loves to embarass people in class. He's horrid.
Despite what many say on these boards Tudico is a great teacher, he opens your eyes to many issues, however if you have insecurities about yourself like many who have rated him you probably do not want to take his class
Wonderful professor. Yes, he challenged most of my beliefs. And because of this experience, I'm a much different person than I was four years ago. Don't get mad. Get LOGICAL.

Awesome. challenging. doesn't let you get away with believing what mommy and daddy taught you, makes you face it, argue it, and know it. he teaches well and is very funny. the weak and close-minded think he's a dick, but they've just not grown up yet.
I put 5 for 'easiness' because I didn't want the difficulty of Tudico's classes to detract from his rating. He's hard, and that's part of what makes him a great teacher. He doesn't force his beliefs on his students, he just questions theirs, and forces them to analyze and defend their beliefs. And he's ****ing HILARIOUS.
Tudico is a professor every ETSU student should have to take. Love him or hate him, he makes you think about things you may never have before. So step outside the box and take a look in...if you are so sure about what you believe it won't change anything!
This man is an @ss. DO NOT EVER TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASSES IF YOU UNLESS YOU WANT TO FEEL BEGRADED AND LIKE A PIECE OF CRAP.
Worst Class Ever. Paul Tudico is an overly confident, egotistical ass. I hated this class, I hated him, I would never take another class with him.
Anyone who complains about Tudico is a) whiny, b) unwilling to think outside a box, or c) both of the above. He's awesome. He asks questions most professors won't and gives everybody in the classroom a serious reality check. A must-take class.
Sure he makes you think about the things you hold near and dear to your heart, but isnt that a good thing? He is one of the best Professors at ETSU because you actually learn things in his class(es). If you are not here to learn then stay away, however if you are interested in actually doing what you are here for, then make sure you take him!
Like the others have said, Tudico is a tough teacher. He demands thinking individuals in his class, and if you make snap judgments or unable to consider other possibilities, you're done for... though perhaps not in this class, because Practical Reasoning is really just simple logic. Be prepared though; he is a bit abrasive. In a good way.
best professor i've had yet. i need to take more classes with him. 90% of people will hate him for challenging them on damn near everything, but that's their loss. every class was interesting. not difficult at all...that is IF you engage in class discussions. and to top it all off...he's absolutely hilarious. really dry smart witty humor.
one of the most intelligent human beings i have ever met. great teacher and funny. everyone alive should take this class, one of the most important classes to take. before you leave etsu you must take this class.
Great Teacher. You will actually learn something. Those who hate him have no critical thinking skills. The class forces you to think outside the box.
I dislike Tudico not because of any lack in myself. I enjoy new ways of thinking. I have enjoyed every other philosophy class I have taken. He is an ass, he has very little attention for anyone other than himself. He seems to rule the world in his mind and if he hurts a few students along the way its ok with him.
I'm not one of his 'cronies' (as on an earlier post) and not a Phil major. I am, however, someone who enjoys learning, and confidant enough in my beliefs to have my worldview challenged. I can't believe the way some students whine when they're asked to actually use their brain! Grow up kiddo's; this is college.
Hot....very hot, super smart with a killer sense of fashion!!!!!!
Couldn't be better.
Tudico is very intelligent, very funny, and VERY blunt. He tends to go off on random tangents a lot, but they all have a point to them. The material is not that easy to handle. If you don't have an open mind, don't bother. Don't take anything he says personally and you'll love this class. I recommend it to anyone who can handle it.
What ever happened to freedom of religion? No student at a state funded school should be forced to take a class where one is scorned over one's religion. The mind shuts off when a person feels emotionally attacked. I choose to drop his class. The money I invested in the class was wasted, but my self-worth is far more important.
I can't believe that anyone who teaches can get off on talking down to people so much. This guy shouldn't be teaching at all. He chose one girl in the class and has picked on her the whole semester just because she said she believes in heaven. Religion aside, picking on a student isn't very professional.
Tudico is very intelligent, & an excellent teacher. If you ask, he will go above and beyond the call of duty to help you out. He can remember books & articles off the top of his head. He can be brutally honest & will pick on people, but only to make them defend their positions. The point of the class is to teach you to think.
"The money I invested in the class was wasted, but my self-worth is far more important." This is an example of the kind of person that gets no value out of an education. Tudico (like any good teacher) forces you to examine yourself. That's more important than your "self-worth" (i.e. believing whatever you want). He is worth your time twenty-fold.
Paul J. Tudico is such a hottie! Getting to look at him for an hour 3 days a week made my semester so much better. But watch out guys and girls, it is very easy to get distracted by his hotness and get lost in the class. What a mental stud!!! Woo hoo!!
Tudico might me be difficult and analytical, but is that not how you obtain good reasoning skills? I have not had in 5 years of college and four difficult majors, an instructor that i keep coming to class for after i knew that i had an low grade going into the final, but i have never learned so much.P.S. If you read this tudico, all i need isa C.
I saw a posting talking about a girl who said she believed in heaven, I believe I am that girl. I just want to set the record straight and say that I never felt attacked or picked on this class, I actually loved the class. Tudico has really made me think about some things that I never thought of before. He is intellegent, entertaining, and HOT!
Going into this class I had heard some horror stories, and none of which ended up being true. I have truly become more open-minded because of this class. Tudico does not attack students, he only tries to get us to question and analyze what we think, and why. Unfortunately I am a senior and will be unable to take any more of his classes, or I would.
Loved the class and Tudico! Ur the Man! And A hot man for that! Love the way you dress!

lets set the record straight, this is college. some classes will be difficult. these make you think. you learn from thinking. this is good. im a christian, i got an A- ...so its possible, ok? yes, he'll attack your beliefs. has nobody ever done that before? i learned tons about my beliefs and how to defend/understand them in this class. props tuds.

Challenging teaching style, but definitely worth any grief he might give students.
great professor. easily the best i've had here at etsu. i took philo as convo and liked it so much that i took practical reasoning just for the fun of it. if you're a dogmatic person on anything, expect to be challenged quite publicly. if you enjoy rational inquiry and as the word philosophy implies, love wisdom, then this is the class for you.
Tudico is the hottest prof at ETSU!!! He is totally brilliant and BRINGING SEXY BACK!!!!!!!

Random babbling isn't permitted & factless beliefs are challenged. I learned a lot about myself & society by taking this course & would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wants to grow as a person. I would suggest doing other research to better understand your point of view before going to class to speak about it. He will make you explain it.
Tudico is a damn fine teacher and an interesting person.
A tall and brilliant man. Took for Phil as Conv. and wish I'd talked more, because it affected my grade. Will challenge what you think/believe, and does so in a sarcastic manner, but it helps make an overall impact and I don't think it's really personal. .. I think.
Ive had this guy for a few classes (does that make me a crony?). Super good teacher, fun, I always look forward to going to his classes especially when the rest of my schedule is the wonderful world of Chemistry. You'll get to read some good stuff, and talk about it and laugh a lot. Cant wait for modern in the spring!
Tudico, is the man, plain and simple. If you dont believe it, he will MAKE YOU!
I am not a philosphy major but he really had me wanting to change my major...The class was not easy but I think the hardest part was dealing with some of the students who were too sensitive and critical. Tudico really had me change me for the best and my faith is actually stronger because of him.
He's an awesome prof. he encourages you to look at what you think and really understand your life and thought processes.
he's great! not to mention he's kinda cute in one of those ways....
This is the first class i have ever had to drop...enough said.
okay all these comments about tudico being an amazing teacher are bullcrap. he doesnt even teach anything. he picks a subject and rambles about it for most of the class and then your supposed to argue with him. if you dont talk, you fail. i didnt think attacked anyone but he definitely makes you defend your statements.all in all he sucks ass
i had him for philosophy as conversation - he is Very Intimidating and somewhat conceded - he turns your words around on you - it is very hard to make an A in his class - Midterm and finally is hard - he is hard to please
first of all, I DO NOT have to defend my religious views. He basically tells you that you are wrong, however; it seems that if you are an atheist, you and him will get along just fine. He tells you to explain everything you believe in, then tells you that you are wrong. It was not a fun class for me. If you are hurt easily, don't take this class!
I think that this class is for those who wish to extend their comfort zone. if you get your feelings hurt easy please do not take this class!!! Tudico will make you think that everything that you believe is wrong. I don't think he really believes that, he just wants you to analyne why you DO believe it! I loved the class
I think Tudico is very misunderstood at times. Lots of people don't like him because he's just not afraid to tell people how it is. There's no sugarcoating with him. His goal is to open your mind, not tear you down. If you're wrong, you should accept it and learn from it. He's a brilliant man and everyone should take at least one of his classes.
He is very intimadating! He is a very smart man i will give him that. I can tell he favors certain students over others. i am not a phil. major, i am just taking this class for an elective and regreting it. dont take if you are not familar with phil. i am two weeks from the end of semester and i have no clue what my grade is. it has been all partic
Tudico expects you to have a reason for believing in things other than "I just do". He makes you think in ways that you may have not thought about before. Grade consits of quizzes, midterm, presentation, and final grade. If are not comfortable with speaking in class, its not for you! Otherwise I loved it and thought it added enriched my life.
I've taken three courses from Professor Tudico. I've earned A's in every one. He is a fair grader and a terrific teacher. If you pay attention, prepare adequately, and participate, you'll do well. If he's hard on you, it's because he respects you and wants to help you improve. He's one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I'm taking Tudico's Philosophy as Conversation and it sucks. Attending it is a drudgery. He teaches the class like everyone in it is a Philosophy major and if you don't talk you fail. If you're shy like I am you will do bad in this class.
If you're not a Philosophy major I would highly recommend that you take something else. If Philosophy and talking aren't you're think you won't like this class. I've learned nothing from this class except that he is smart and I am stupid.
Great class, the man says the most priceless comments on issues. The people who don't like him were people who didn't talk or didn't say anything relevent on the issues being discussed. Take the class if you want to learn to think objectivly and not just through your own eyes. Also be ready to be defend your position, or else.
Tudico's great. You do not have to an atheist or something to have your views heard, you just have to open-minded, which is his goal. If you want to stay inside your Christian bubble (and I say that as a Christian) and not know how to related to unbelievers, then take someone else. If you want to become a better thinker and person, take Tudico.
This is by far one of the most unique and enlightening classes offered at ETSU. While the class is challenging, one is able to learning how to think. One reevaluates basically every moral standard for which they think they stand. It truly is a fantastic class which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to learning something worthwhile.
Just started philo as convo.... He seems like a **** in the way he talks but I expect to be challenged and I'll try to get what I can out of him
I took him for practical reasoning,He will make you think,he will challenge you, he might even call you out in front of the whole class and make you wonder why he must hate you, but the truth is that he doesnt, he loves students, and just wants us to believe what we say and give reasons for it. Shouldnt you be able to do taht anyway?
Challenges you. Exorcises good critical thinking skills. Helps you push the envelope of life. - "He's the professor your parents warned would turn you into a raving atheist liberal...or worse yet, an independant thinker. And to top it off, he's funny as all hell."
Spectacular teacher! I thought I was a genius till this guy brought me back down to earth. Makes you evaluate your beliefs in ways you never thought possible. Anyone who gives him bad ratings is probably understandably intimidated by him. He is a tortured genius, so at times he can't take foolish responses. But he belittles people light heartedly!
I took Practical Reasoning and learned how to evaluate and argue right way. Tudico was an entertaining and smart professor. I did not agree with all of Tudico's side arguments but I did agree with Tudicos arguments on the importance of critical thinking over dogma. Test can be a bit tricky but an A is dooable if you practice and study.
Simple day ahead. Sip on some coffee, take a deep breath, and prepare mInd for the mental beat down/natural healing/spiritual understanding/hilarious confusion/uplifting that is this day of philosophy. Fill yourself not with the butter of hateful love, but spread the joyous jelly upon your belly of scruples. RENewal! NEMENEME>>>. ?
PT was my teacher when he was working on his PhD (15 yrs ago). To some people (the dogmatic, the uninformed, people who say "I believe X" like that makes it true) he may SEEM rude and heartless, but that's b/c he demands you support your beliefs not just act like a 2 yr old. I went to grad school for Phil b/c of him.
Do yourself a favor by taking Prof. Tudico for philosophy, if possible. His class made me evaluate my whole outlook on life, but you have to be prepared to think.
Tudico is one of the best professors I've ever had. He draws you out and forces you to engage in a level of thought and analysis that is alien and difficult to most of us. He can be abrasive and thus intimidating, but his teaching style demands more from his students than passive observation. Take his class if you are prepared to be challenged.
Tudico is probably one of the best professors I've had...I've read some of your comments and I'm not shocked by the ones who didn't like his class...you are in college not high school...Of course a class on philosophy is going to require participation...duh! Stop whining. he challenges all to think for yourselves and be open minded.
He didn't like me very much because I was quiet, which hurt my final grade. I love reading philosophy so I thought this class would be enjoyable like my other Philosophy class, but it wasn't. I basically paid $800 to listen to Tudico belittle narrow minded students in his class everyday. I should have dropped this class.
I dreaded going in this class almost every day. I would not recomend it. Class participation is a must, but overall its not very hard.
Tudico's a great teacher and fantastic at philosophy. He really knows his stuff. And he LOVES to argue. If you hate arguing or providing reasons for your beliefs, don't take his class. At all. If you don't mind or even enjoy it, his class is perfect for you. If you HAVE to take a philosophy course, I say take him. He's probably your best bet.
Don't take this class if you: are narrow-minded; can't support your position with facts; believe that "I think..." makes your position true; are lazy. Take this class if you: like to be challenged; want to work and grow; want to be better, intellectually and as a person. Great teacher, really cares that are putting in the effort and learning.
Hated this class! Tudico is funny at times, but can be completly rude. He has no respect for religion, and more than challenging it is insulting. AVOID
Enjoyed the class very much. Tudico is a cool guy, and was willing to answer any questions. Interesting discussions; one of my favorite teachers yet. Made logic interesting and fun.
I can't believe so many people actually like this guy. He's so pompous and arrogant. He belittles students in front of the whole class instead of constructively helping them learn. I would have loved this class had someone else taught it.
Tudico reminds me of Dr House. He's abrasive and arrogant, but only because he's genuinely good at what he does. He's a fantastic teacher who will pry open your mind and show you how the world works, if you let him. Recommended for anyone who genuinely wants to learn how to think logically and how to have a better life.
Really fun class that definitely makes you think. All the negative comments from people are funny because it's you he makes fun of. I would definitely recommend him if you want to be a reasonable person.
Must attend all classes and must hold conversation with class to earn an A. Loved this class. Tudico makes you think about being a better person for the world around you. Would take him again.
This was an extremely difficult class for me. I learned a lot, and thought I understood the material. Tests were really difficult for me though. Go to class, and read the material multiple times. Pay attention in class, and try to talk during the arguments.
If you don't like talking, maybe you shouldn't have taken Philosophy as CONVERSATION...what the heck did you expect?
You do not have to talk in critical thinking as much. I really enjoyed watching him prove that most students are stupid. Some said he was offensive to religious thinkers but faith is not logical in philosophy. He is not rude, he just has a low tolerance for stupidity. So do not be stupid and start defending faith as a logical reason.
Loved Tudico, not so much the class. He's a great teacher and knows his stuff. Took him for Philosophy of Law. Really gets you thinking, and likes those who talk. I would definitely take Tudico again if I had the chance.
He's super smart and knows what he's talking about but he still hasn't posted the syllabus (2 months in) and now there's a technical problem so he won't post the slides for the second test. Basically, you need to come to class and read the material b/c he doesn't post a schedule & isn't worried about posting the info online. Love the class though.
He keeps the class interested & will get you thinking. You have to have an open mind which is possible even if you believe in god. It's pretty amazing that this guy gets to do to do this and get paid. He enjoys every minute of it. Overall, a great clear cut class where you will learn something.
Philosophy as Conversation made me a happier, better person. If you like to be challenged on every level and are ready to defend your beliefs, and in the process learn how to think more rationally, take Tudico. If you aren't, then don't, but for the love of God, quit whining.
LOVED this guy's class! He is an amazing teacher and will definitely make you think quite a bit! Just show up to class and participate and you've got an A!
Dr. Tudico is fabulous. I can't stand to listen to people whine about how horrible of a person he is. If you disagree with him then step up and prove it.
Tudico is a tough professor, but I loved this class. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like to talk and participate in class, as it is a requirement for Philosophy as Conversation. Class discussions are really helpful and make you think. I learned SO much in this class. Participate, read, and pay attention and you've got it. Tough, but worth it.
Tudico is a great professor. He WILL challenge you. He will challenge anyone and everyone in the classroom, regardless of your religion or ethnicity. His mid-term and final aren't that hard. He loves to talk after class as well. Just be yourself and tell him what you think. Possibly the only class you can tell the teacher that they are wrong.
Very effective at helping students understand difficult material.
Really all you have to do is attend class and talk during conversation which I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with that because it is all so interesting. If you are religious, be prepared to keep an open mind or be able to argue your beliefs. If you're easily offended you should man up or take another class. He never wears socks.
Interesting class but his exams are rather difficult. He will challenge you and he is arrogant.
People have said he doesn't respect students or religion, but the fact of the matter is tudico comes from a very Christian background and although his beliefs are questionable, he's just very good at what he does, the devils advocate. And he respects students that actually put forth an effort, I know first hand. This man undoubtedly changed my life
It was a great class, a lot of awesome discussions. He never gave us a syllabus which was annoying and he posts study guides and other readings the day before its due sometimes which was really annoying. He was really unclear sometimes with definitions or what he wants.
Mr. Tudico is very much like a gadfly: he is always looking to question students for their system of beliefs. Of course, conversation is a very important part of this class. He can be shrewd to those who are unwilling to talk. Do yourself a favor and speak aloud when you have an idea worth mentioning. Otherwise, it's a fun class.
Avoid at all costs. Tests too hard. No extra credit. No syllabus. Condescending and arrogant. I went from a 4.0 in every class to a C+ in this class. This speaks volumes about the teacher.
Very boring lecutres, having to make 5 paragraph essays for exams (on top of 30+ multiple choice questions) makes exams pretty difficult, but entirely do-able.
I was honestly disappointed by this class. We had some very good discussions, however we did not have a textbook or a syllabus. I always felt very unprepared for his class, and to top it all off, he was impossible to reach because he never answered his emails. He is a very picky grader, and I think he expects way too much from an intro level class.
Hated by many and loved by more this man likes to set fires under normative ideas. Are you fine with never questioning your own beliefs? than don't take this professor! (And maybe stay out of college) Tudico is great and if youre a good student that does the readings and participates youll learn some valuable life lessons. its sad thats rare
This was an oral intensive course. Tudico seems to be more interested in how well you can stand your ground and how well you can articulate your points. If you participate and are well spoken you should do fine.
He was kind of rude until the last day of class. I did not enjoy this class and I am very glad it is over.
I was never really interested in philosophy and I was dreading taking it, however, Tudico made this class incredible! He is an amazing teacher. If you keep up with the readings and make sure you at least participate once a class meet, you should be fine. One of the few teachers outside of my major that loves teaching and actually wants you to learn
He comes across as pompous and arrogant, even though his lectures are interesting and the material is interesting. Of course, thinking outside the box is a good thing and promoted in the class, but is there a different way to get that message across to students? Also, thinking outside the box doesn't always lead to something better.
Prof. Tudico is a good teacher, but can come across rude and very intimidating. His lectures are good, but he can sometimes get stuck on a topic and "beat a dead horse". Participation is encouraged in the beginning, but if you answer incorrectly he is kind of snappy. If you pay attention in class, study, and do the homework you should be fine.
The class format and the professor can be a little overwhelming at first, with the insistence that you defend your opinion or position, but this is what gives the discussions on the readings the potential to be really interesting and really varied. Attendance is a must for participation, in class quizzes, and info about the course given in class.
I took the final exam for Practical Reasoning today and I must say I'm going to miss this class. For the first time in a while I am leaving a class with applicable knowledge. Thanks for the great semester.
cool dude, but do not take him for practical reasoning. hardest class I have ever taken at ETSU.
This is a hard class in general. I had a hard time learning from his lectures and just reading the texts. I had to youtube most of the material. It seems easy in class but you have to take notes and ask a lot of questions. The tests are very hard if you don't understand the material. I recommend finding a tutor.
He is the most amazing professor I have ever met in my college life. He can surely come across as a bit off but beneath all that toughness is a great human being who will help you to understand the concepts. Very inspirational. Teaches really well. Be ready to read. critical thinking may not be the thing for everyone. So understand the gist.
This class is no joke!
If you hate getting your feelings hurt, I wouldn't recommend taking his class. If you have thick skin, like good banter and a professor who pushes you to think properly, he's perfect for you.
He can't stand when people don't agree with his point of view and will insult people who disagree.
Oh, man.... this guy. You have to participate/ at the end of the year he will go around, and everyone in the class grades your participation. You have two grades ( a few pop quizzes) he said he might change that though and do more quizzes. The 10-page paper you have under a week to do for midterm and hour long one on one meeting for final. Good luck.
I am so happy that I got to take a class with Dr. Tudico, especially because I had been told this whole time that he was a meanie. The content of this class is USEFUL for your entire lifetime. Good to have an expert to learn the basics from. TAKE THIS YOUR FIRST YEAR instead of waiting until the end! Will help for other classes!
You do a TON of readings and will be very challenged. A lot of people say he is mean, but really he is challenging what you have been taught to think. His lectures are always interesting, but his exams are very very very very difficult. His directions are never clear for assignments.
Tudico is one of my all time favorite professors. He encourages everyone to think critically and attempt to understand the world around you. If you come in with an open mind, a good work ethic, and you are determined to do well you will love this class and this professor.
*Sigh* This isn't going to be pretty, but i'm going to be respectful. Tudico is not a good teacher point blank. I had him for Philosophy as a conversation and he is very passionate about the subjects you cover in class. So passionate that if you disagree with him or simply don't understand the material he will insult you and have fun doing it.
Lots of reading but it's interesting stuff and all posted on D2L. You can miss up to 4 days without losing points. If you have an open mind and want to learn the answers to questions about the meaning of life, this class is for you. If you're sensitive and not willing to be wrong, beware. Minimal effort but maximum participation required.
Very cut and to the point, Tudico walked us through several takes on the Meaning of Life. He makes it clear his class is not about disproving God's existence or whatever protestants tend to get so worked up about in Philosophy. If you're easily offended though, wouldn't recommend. Not for the faint of heart. Boring if no one talks, though.
Tudico is tough and not faint of heart. He will make you work and will not let you say things without making you defend it. His classes are very reading intensive, and his tests are all essay. Overall his class if fun, you just have to be willing to work hard and think critically.
Tudico is by far my favorite professor I have had at ETSU. He is great at explaining topics that could cause confusion, but he can be tough on people who are not willing to explain why they believe something. Be ready to read the books assigned and actually speak in class. If you ask questions, try to understand concepts, and talk you will do well!
Four exams and then a few homework assignments throughout the semester that total 100 points. No room for error at all if you want to pass. I do NOT recommend taking Tudico for any classes. If you disagree with him on anything keep it to yourself unless you want a lecture as to why his way is better. I will never take him again!
Tudico's classes are what you make of them. He's a fair professor, and he will give you the grade you deserve. If you do the readings, engage with the class, and support your arguments, you will earn his respect and have a great time. He will challenge your beliefs and will never let you or anyone else win argument. Not for the faint of heart.
Tudico is big on the Socratic method, and you should prioritize: taking good lecture notes, forming opinions backed by material found in the readings done in class (and voicing them), and finding something about the class that interests you. Attendance is imperative because it is so lecture heavy - he likes seeing lecture material in your paper(s).
Tudico was an excellent teacher. My sister and I had him and he was fantastic. You must attend class, and I would highly advise looking through examples to help with concepts. Keep in mind, this is not a MORAL philosophy class, this is a critical thinking class. He is not telling you WHAT to think, he is teaching you how to form opinions/beliefs.
Tudico is a fantastic professor and expects real effort from his students. Read what he tells you to read and approach him outside of class if you're confused. He's a fair grader but don't try to BS your way through. It won't work. Attend class or he won't even entertain your opinions - for good reason.
Tudico is the best in the philosophy department. If you do the work and reading, you will pass. He is a very fair grader and will give you what you deserve. You have to show up and show that you care and participate or he wont entertain your opinion.
I had Tudico for a single Philosophy class 12 years ago, and I find myself referring back to what I learned there more than just about anything else I learned in college. He made me a better critical thinker, which has helped me immeasurably in every aspect of life. Highest recommendation!
Tudico is amazing. If you care about deep thinking and rerouting toxic trains of thought, he is the best pick. I, along with two other sisters, took his class and loved it.
I had a really hard time in this class. If you like slide based lectures dont take tudico. He rambles the whole time and expects you to pull information from rambling. Do not let this be the first philosophy class you take. He doesnt explain well. He roasts every student that has a question and is very rude. Dont speak up unless you know things.
Good teacher :)
I took this class as a first semester freshman. Bad choice. If you are religious and have strong beliefs, probably don't take this class; he seems very anti-God. He can be pretty rude and will call you out and argue w/ you. Don't take if you are sensitive. He will challenge your beliefs, which I guess makes him a good professor.
I hated and loved this class. I highly recommend this course for critical thinking, enhancing perspectives, and progress for personal development. I promise Tudico is not too much of an arsehole, he is really trying to get you to see perspective. Stick with him and listen and THINK, disagree (must write proof on board) and agree. Conversation
This class not only helped me develop understanding and opinion about class topics but aided my development in critical thinking, learning from different perspectives, and paving the way to a meaningful fulfilling life. Tudico appears egotistical and harsh but wants his students to learn and understand. LISTEN, THINK, CONVERSE, FEEDBACK!!!!
I'm sure this class is much better in person but if you can avoid online, do it. Tudico seems nice enough but if you don't have the same views as him good luck. Good luck if you're a Christian too because it will feel like he's trying to convince you that God isn't real. He also makes unfair assumptions about peoples' characters and how they liv
This is my 2nd class with Tudico and he is awful. This class would've been interesting with another teacher but his lectures consist of mostly unrelated ramblings that can make the content confusing. It is obvious that he doesn't care for his students or their education, I think he just likes to hear himself talk. Extremely rude and condescending
Only gave 2 assignment which is the midterm exam and the final exam so you literally cannot miss a single thing or else you will fail this class. Syllabus says writing assignments and quizzes will be given for 15% of your grade which was a complete lie. Is extremely contradicting and rambles every single class so you can't make strong conclusions.
Tudico is someone that loves to hear his own voice. He's very rude and will call you out for having a differing opinion from him. Also, the whole class is only comprised of TWO assignments, so you pretty much can't mess up anywhere. To anyone that plans on having him: good. luck.
Wants you to defend your opinions but interrupts and talks over you mid sentence, then classifies the whole class as spineless and stupid for not having sound beliefs. Doesn't answer emails, didn't provide a syllabus. Made fun of me fidgeting due to my ADHD. Overall kind of a mean guy.
Professor Tudico is obviously an expert on what he teaches. I have learned more about my own beliefs and philosophy in general in his class than any other. However, he is particularly abrasive and expects you to speak in class. I recommend this class if you want to learn and be challenged. I do not for those with anxiety or particular sensitivity.
Attendance is mandatory so if you skip class more than four times a semester, your grade will drop by the letter. There are only two assignments so you must do well on both or you're screwed! You must also talk a lot in every single class. It is a difficult class that will force you to grow as an individual. It isn't for the weak!
Professor Tudico is easily the best instructor I've had while attending this school so far. Many don't like him because he will unapologetically pick at your beliefs and make you uncomfortable, but that is exactly what a good philosophy instructor is supposed to do. He is great at explaining difficult concepts in an extremely digestible manor.
I have mixed options about this professor. He definitely opened my mind to new ideas and view points. The grading is very difficult as there are only two tests for the whole course and participation in class matters. It is hard to share your thoughts because he shuts people down and talks the whole class. This class is not for the weak.
I had this class first, and it was challenging in a good sense! Made me think! He jokes a lot, and questions what you think. You have to talk for a grade, and you wont know your grade until your final - where you talk to him privately. Seems scary, but goes by faster than you think! Overall, I enjoyed this class, Just took me a sec to talk!
Not very test heavy, but most of your grade relies on the exams! Great professor, very funny. The content itself is a little tough, but thats not on tudico, he did great explaining the content, make a study group! You have to keep track of your grades to know what grade you have as you progress! Participation isnt necessary, but helps!!
Tough material, but Tudico made it easier to understand to the best of his abilities! Very fun, I wish I could have him for another class! You won't know your grade unless you keep up with it until the end of the semester! Has fun with his classes, and will let you talk about your exam grades with him! Make a study group, material is tough!
He claimed that our grades were primarily dependent on our participation in class, but then spent the majority of class time lecturing without giving students the opportunity to speak. The rest of our grades were determined based on the midterm, which wasn't posted until the day of the final exam, and the final, which was an hour long oral exam.
so basically never email him unless you don't want a response. never speak in his philosophy as a convo unless you want to be absolutely berated. he will talk over you & even if you defend him he will make fun of you if you're a talker, so maybe just keep your ideas to yourself. good luck on the oral final!
this class is not what you expect at all, he makes things complicated when they can be simplified, and honestly over all not worth your time. he also doesnt upload your grades to D2l. He laughs when things get complicated then goes on to confuse you more. even though i received a decent grade i dont recommend this professor.
He over complicates things for no reason, and it feels like he enjoys making things harder/complicated when they really can be simplified. he laughs when things are getting harder just to go on and confuse you more. This class didnt feel like a philosophy class at all it wasnt what i expected. I DO NOT recommend this professor at all.
Tudico's class is thought-provoking but challenging. He'll push you to defend your beliefs, which can be uncomfortable but helps develop critical thinking. Using unstuck ai for study prep was a lifesaver alongside the textbook. Overall, a worthwhile class if you're up for the challenge.
Every single one of you who said this was a great professor lied. He wants you to speak but rarely gives you an opportunity and when he does get ready to be absolutely berated for your opinion. He once said in class if that if your belief is based off of opinion instead of fact you have to agree with him to change your belief. Good luck!
Tudico can be a little offensive and abrasive, he doesn't sugarcoat things. I think most people who give him a bad rating don't really understand philosophy or just wrote him off because he forces you to defend your beliefs if you speak up about them. Welcome to the real world. His class is not hard if you attend, listen, and think before you speak
I decided to take this class because I enjoyed philosophy. Tudio did a terrible job explaining the material and he was very rude to his students. He even flirted with a girl in my class in front of everyone and we all felt bad for her. He needs to retire his position and ETSU needs to put another professor in his place.
This class is definitely a harder one. Majority of your grade is class participation. Although you aren't required to talk every single class, showing up and asking questions or providing input at least once or twice a week is best. Recognize the class as a learning experience and come in with an open mind regardless of beliefs and you'll be fine!
Professor tudico is an intresting guy. He can be very sarcastic. I know recently this class has gotten bigger and his grading is HUGE on participating but with the class size he has now it's almost impossible to get the points.
Not my favorite but didn't despise him. His class is genuinely thought-provoking, but he can be rude and talk over you if you try to argue a belief. He takes a while to put reviews and stuff on D2L, and the class is like 90ish people in a lecture hall. He can be rude at times and has flipped off our entire class during his hypothetical scenarios...
DO NOT take this class if you don't speak out. It's a HUGE part of your grade and he WILL fail you if you don't participate. Tudico is a very left-leaning teacher if you are the kind of person that likes to politicize things. You will have to interrupt him sometimes because he is a yapper. The meaning of life="the pursuit of goals" or something.
hes a smart guy but rude. he will interrupt/let others interrupt while you're trying to make a point. grade consits of pop quizzes on the reading and three exams. he gives you a study guide for the exams that are helpful. he often wont post the study guide or readings until right before they are due, though. def need to work hard for a good grade.
He likes to bully people.
People who are saying his class is difficult either didn't read, or simply cannot think critically about the world around them. Tudico is very passionate about his course material, and incredibly intelligent while helping you learn. He can seem abrasive, but mostly just has a dry sense of humor. 10/10 recommend if law school is in your future.
A lot of people dislike Tudico, but I really enjoyed the two classes of his I took. I think a big reason his style of teaching is so polarizing is that he challenges his students' ideas and beliefs. It can be difficult to get a point across and it's easy to get embarrassed in his class, but he taught me some valuable real-world skills.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Doesn't listen to students when they complain or ask for things to be different. Barely teaches and hardly covers stuff that will be on exams. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He is a very good professor, but strict and hard. You must show up to class!
He is a very good professor and wants his students to succeed, but he is tough. You must attend class
I love Tudico, I took him for his controversy and he exceeded expectations! He makes the material digestible and makes the exams just like his notes/practice/homework. I would recommend reading the textbook on top of lecs but it free online and he copies the homework so no one has to pay. Overall an enjoyable teacher and a great guy.
Find another professer. His lectures are full of no helpful information and youre basically teaching yourself the material. 4 HW grades 4 exam grades. Finals week and none of my grades are posted at all. He truly believes his opinions are the only correct ones and thinks anyone who does not think like him are totally incompetent.
Tudico gets a bad rap because he is not afraid to question people and let free discussion happen in class. If you are easily offended or hurt he isn't the right teacher for you.Tudico is an amazing and knowledgeable professor who will help you in any way he can. While attendance is not mandatory it is to be able to know how to pass.
